What you got on Mori and the general theme of manipulation in the bsd?

It's not a theme as much as it is a plot device or an aspect of certain characters. If I'd tie a theme into it I'd say its more about free will. What is free will? Does Dazai manipulating info characters get or presenting it a certain way mean they aren't able to choose for themselves? Does Dostoyevsky beating people down and having them see themselves as powerless take away their free will?

As for Mori, what's interesting is that Mori doesn't obscure his moves to the people under him. He doesn't make Yosano heal people by subtle means. He shoots a man she's friends with so that she has to. He doesn't lie to Dazai about why he sent Oda to die, he explained his reasoning and his methods, or let Dazai come to those conclusions himself. He doesn't lie to Chuuya when he explains why he's leading the PM and how he will lead it, and lets Chuuya interpret what that means on his own.

That said, Mori strategizes very carefully when and where he will reveal information to them. He lets Yosano befriend the soldier. He has Dazai run around trying to solve a case he himself is responsible for. He waits until Chuuya fails as a leader before giving his lecture. Just because he doesn't lie or pretend to be something else (like Dazai does) doesn't mean he doesn't strategize in a manipulative way. He wants a certain outcome to happen so he makes his move at the right moment. He's like a chess master, whereas Dazai is more like a guy setting up dominos.

And Dostoyevsky just zaps his dominos until they do what he wants.
