Hey! i’m really into the dbch story and i was wondering if doc and xisuma ever tell bdubs the specifics of why etho lost his memories, cause if they do that is prime self blaming angst for bdubs

I’m inclined to believe they don’t. Actually (and maybe I should do a small comic for this so more people see it) I imagine, once a month or a few pass and they finally return etho to bdubs as reset, I imagine they are VERY serious about warning bdubs not to try to force Etho to re-deviate— they don’t go into specifics, but they probably tell bdubs that whatever happened had to do with something that was emotionally overwhelming, and that forcing him to redeviate/not letting it happen naturally could trigger the same error. They have no idea what could happen so bdubs needs to be very careful and let Etho find himself again on his own.

Whether or not bdubs gets impatient or can only go so long before he doubts it would be that bad if he tried pushing Etho in the right direction is another story.

But yeah. I don’t think Xisuma or Doc really… tell anyone that this happened. Etho’s error seemed like a very specific one-off scenario, so it’s not something the other hermits should be trying to avoid or be careful about happening to their own android friends, and the only thing telling people would do is make them worried about the situation. All they need to know is that etho was broken and that they need to be careful with him. I don’t agree with their decision to keep what happened to themselves but I understand it I think. Okay we talk about yandere purposely let darling sick, how about yandere purposely hurt darling for whatever reason?

I'm thinking about yandere that set up things or using stand so darling accidentally hurt themselves (example: tripping them to fall down the stair) so they will appear like a hero, take care of darling and manipulate that darling is so clumsy, can't live without them.

Another case it's hurting darling as a punishment, maybe the darling escape then being catch by the yandere, the yandere broken darling's leg as a punishment (or if you into gore stuff, it can be much more terrible). They make darling has no choice but to rely on them.

Oh, truly a classic in terms of yandere content. Ouchies from the one who just adores you, so they have an excuse to take care of you. I’ll do you one better, anon. Yanderes who hurt you as a way of expressing love. My love tends to hurt, so I feel overly qualified to talk about his one. 

Love isn’t supposed to hurt you, it’s supposed to make you feel like you can finally relax- plenty of overbearing, protective yanderes would agree, but what if someone hurts you to relax? What if this is how they get those urges- those affectionate, mushy feelings- out of their system? It isn’t fair that you’ve asked them to play nice, they are. It isn’t their fault that they prefer to rip your nails off as opposed to- I don’t know, kissing you, or something. 

Yanderes who happen to be both sadistic and possessive tend to fall into this category. It’s ironic- I am both sadistic and possessive, and yet it seems most yanderes in jjba would prefer not to toy with their darlings- most. It's a very specific type of yandere- one who hurts you to show their love, one who hurts you without any love, one who hurts you unintentionally... I enjoy the horror aspect of yandere content as well as the fetish aspect, and someone who has no emotional attachment to their darling is just frightening to me. Sure, I can see the appeal, hot person treating you like shit, masochists are so very easy to please, but I want someone that needs only me. Give me someone who only wants me, someone who scoffs at the idea of having anyone else, and you have my full attention. 

To my fellow sadists, entirely indulgent sessions are the same thing as sitting down and cuddling with a darling. They think of it fondly- how else would you like to spend your days off? Sometimes it’s just the right pick-me-up. Some yanderes are fond of leaving little marks- sweet nothings. They’re gifts, and will give you as many as they’d like. Some might still kiss you- they trail kisses from your thighs to your hips, right over your iliac crest, continue over your stomach, find their way to your chest, make their home in your neck- but that’s not going to come without something mean. You’ll be kissed, sure, but it’s not like your yandere’s hands are just going to disappear. They grab at you- hold you in place, really- and dig their nails into whatever skin they can find. They force your legs open just to watch you squirm, and don’t deliver. Ooooops. Did someone think they were going to really be touched? You poor, sad little thing. They’ll touch you later, once they finish carving their name into your back. Their full name.

For some yanderes, you just need to learn how to translate. Every time they call you vapid whore or a dog is just their way of screaming “I love you, I adore you.” They have such a way with words, too, who else is going to whisper “You’re just a piece of meat with my name on it” so softly, so lovingly? Degradation can be someone's way of expressing their love- haven't you ever heard of some light teasing? Well, they aren't teasing, they fully mean it. You're a stupid bitch who should be overjoyed they're even looking at you. It's not their fault you make the cutest face ever when they talk to you like that! It's the same as yanderes who shower you with praise, it's full of love, it's just not very typical.

For a yandere that isn’t stronger than you are, they rely heavily on restraint and tools. It’s hard to break someone’s bones! But it isn’t hard to shove someone down stairs- and it certainly isn’t hard to stab someone who can’t grab at your weapon of choice. For yanderes who have a stand, it’s not really an issue either way. The frailest figures can become dangerous- it doesn't matter if they're thinner, smaller, weaker, nothing can stop them from breaking your leg if they have a stand. Some stand users are naturally at a disadvantage- I'm not going to pretend that the sex pistols are as much of a physical threat as star platinum. They're still dangerous in their own right, evidently, but they're not capable of breaking something like your femur. Does that mean their user can? Maybe. Don't be stupid and try to find out- if you want Guido to flex for you, just ask. Someone like Jotaro, though... will give you a demonstration, as much as he doesn't want to see you in pain. This is good for you. A romantic like Guido wouldn't break your bones, but someone like Jotaro, although he'll hesitate, would.

I’m firmly of the belief that some stands are entirely sentient- they are their own person. Someone like Giorno and Golden Experience is actually at a disadvantage, what the soul wants is not always what the stand will do. Golden Experience hides things from Giorno- why stop at hiding an ability? Purple Haze isn't always going to obey poor, tired Pannacotta. But for the average stand user, they’re fully in control! It’s like having another you, constantly. What exactly is stopping a close range stand user from beating their darling to Hell and back? What’s stopping them from using it like a person to get in your way/block doors? Granted, not every stand user thinks this way about their stands, but in the wrong hands, it’s potentially very dangerous. 

It's perfect. It's another tool to make their darling write in agony, and some yanderes are in desperate need of tools. Not everyone can be Mr. 203 cm, some of us are short! Someone like Diego (lol.) or Narancia has a disadvantage when it comes to height, but their stands are right where they need to be. It doesn't matter if you can't see Aerosmith, you can feel it.

As useful as it is for someone who normally has a disadvantage, it's also just.... overkill for those who do not need the help. Someone like Risotto can hold his darling down just through brute strength, why would he need a humanoid stand to help? Risotto isn't one for using his stand outside of jobs- what's he really going to use it for? That big teddybear is so obsessed with keeping his darling safe and sound that the thought of "I could render them helpless" won't become a thought until you resist.

Someone like Jotaro or DIO though... good luck with that. Jotaro doesn't want to hurt you- I'm fairly certain I've repeated myself a bit too much in that aspect, but that's not going to stop him from taking the necessary steps to keep you in one place. DIO is another romantic, but you know what? He's not nice.

I love your otto brainrot. He's favorite person to gush about in this series. I also love your analysis about one of the latest chapters and regarding Otto! ust, chef's kiss.

Anyhow, I would also like to add a crack theory about why otto never talked about his dp allowing him to talk to infants too. In this moment, it very much be because, as you said, he wants Spica to be eliminated. But! We're thinking small here. My question morphs into a more general perspective; why would Otto, and tappei to an extent, keep such information about his dp under wraps for this long, way before these Spica shenanigans? And I feel like the author may want to expand on that regard. Because as far as the rest of the crew knows (and as far as I remember), they know he can only talk to animals. But that chapter states he can talk to any living being (?), which I think may hint to it being a bigger fucking deal than we may realize. Like outside the Louis development, as well as Otto's frustration development, this power in of itself can cause a ripple of what Otto's capabilities are, and to not underestimate it.

So, now I wonder, would tappei utilize this tidbit for more development about Otto's power? What do you think?

but no yeah like........ ottos dp is specifically about Animals and well. humans and demihumans ARE animals. so it makes sense that it carries into humans and demihumans a bit so the whole catching someones intent thing is super fascinating and i feel like he could Definitely utilize it for more of his schemes?? esp when you combine that with the usual ways he uses his dp with animals - his power is Perfect for spying on others and gathering info in general. from my understanding of his power though, animals have to agree to help him, but given he can communicate with them and hes. well hes a good talker and also a bit of a manipulative bitch (affectionate) so like getting animals to help him doesnt seem like too much of an issue usually for him. so no but yeah his power is like. The live action Scooby-Doo movies?

I did not see this ask until RIGHT now (first time on desktop since crab day, second time since Nov 5 2020 [which was DOUBLY experience since I got my phone taken the same day]) so I'm going to assume this ask got eaten on mobile because tumblr, HOWEVER you poked a bear with this ask anon (as I'm sure you knew when asking) SO without further ado: my Scooby Doo live action opinions

So when you say 'live action Scooby-Doo movies' I'm assuming you're talking about the James Gunn films, starting with Scooby-Doo (2002) followed by Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, just due to like, generally popularity and also the fact that I have actually seen those films. However shoot another ask if you wanted me to include Curse of the Lake Monster in this (because I will if anyone cares and turn this into a live-action scooby dissertation, i'd just need to like. watch the movie first) But anyways where I'm going with this is that this post is about the Gunn movies aka the ones with SMG, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini, and ofc our #1 man, Matthew Lilliard.

Okay so my take on these movies is... complicated. I wouldn't say it's as complicated as my feelings towards SDMI, because I watched the live actions way less as a kid and generally care less about them, but still no matter how much shit I throw at these two movies there are parts that I generally like (even love) that stops me from totally condemning them wholesale. Like the fact that these movies are FUNNY! There's so many moments from this duology that are just beyond iconic "like, that's one of my favorite names!" the whole thing with Scooby in the dress at the airport, ET. CETERA (like I can go on!)

The Gunn movies are genuinely SO fun and I can 100% see and understand how they've stood so well in the public view as a representation of Scooby. HOWEVER, this is where you start to see my problems with them. For the general American, (because that is the audience I'm familiar with) ESPECIALLY millennials and younger, who happen to make up the majority of both people on this site AND people I talk about Scooby with in real life, these movies, and the elements they introduced as "quintessential scooby tropes" are the base of their understanding of the Scooby franchise, along with likely some miscellaneous WAY episodes and maybe SDMI.

Which is where I get pissed off. In the pushing of the narrative of "breaking away" from the Scooby norm, Gunn basically invents (aka totally makes up) an idea of what classic era Scooby was like, cementing an idea of classic Scooby into the public mind that is totally disingenuous and just straight up false. For example, in attempting to portray Daphne as having taken strides to be seen more seriously in solving mysteries and defending herself, it pushes the narrative that in the classic era she WASN'T taken seriously, and only existed as a damsel-in-distress prop of a character, which is just not true??? Like yes, Daphne is clumsy, that's a part of her character, and her friends (because, fun fact, the gang ARE friends) joke about it sometimes because that's what friends DO. Framing that in some kind of sexist "that's all she does" lens is just total bull, especially as gang members fall into secret passageways/get lost etc. in WAY ALL THE DAMN TIME because that's how the plot functions! Like are we calling Velma ditzy for losing her glasses every other episode? Of course not, and Fred falls into passageways all the time, not to MENTION Shaggy and Scooby and all they get up to. Also one last thing on the topic of Daphne, like this idea of her mystery solving skills not being respected by the gang is just so supremely bullshit it amazes me sometimes, especially when she was the LEADER (or leader adjacent) through pretty much all of her appearances in the 1980s [Not that James Gunn could look at '80s era Scooby without spitting on it, but I digress]

AND THIS IS JUST DAPHNE! Like the perceptions pushed towards Fred (and Velma, but mostly Fred) through these movies are just as bad! Like okay, with Fred---In these movies Fred is just an asshole. I hate Gunn Movies!Fred. I mean yeah he can be funny but it's almost always so mean! Almost nothing makes me madder than a mean Fred by the way. If he's putting other gang members down (even halfway, like with his whole "dorky chicks like you turn me on too" line, which... ew) then to me something has gone very, very, VERY, wrong in your basic understanding of Frederick Herman Jones as a character. Like he's the cheerleader! He puts himself in between his friends and danger! He loves nets, and traps, and Elvis impressions, and wrestling, and the trapeze, and cars, and most of all he LOVES sharing the things he loves with his friends! (Sometimes to a bit of an extreme. No one wants to hear about your net facts, Fred) And the live action movies just don't understand that at all. And I know there's maybe something to say I suppose in that some of those aspects of his characterization hadn't been "established yet" by the time "Scooby-Doo" came out in 2002. But it's there if you look. For Fred Jones, being the leader means being the caretaker, (he's the Mom friend what can I say) and any version where he's cruel and arrogant and just DOESN'T CARE about his friends in the way he's shown to in the Gunn movies is just so far from Fred to me it's not even funny. And what makes it even worse for me is that this (or at least something similar) is the idea of Fred that has really spread to the popular culture. Just the "leader", the jock that makes the rules, the one that [insert X adaptation here] finally gave a personality and made interesting (something that has been said more times than I can count for pretty much every gang member, save Shaggy and Scooby).

And I haven't even touched on Velma, and how they gave her a bit of a early 2000s smart superiority girl complex against Daphne, plus the whole makeover thing and etc. etc. The Gunn Movies are pretty much what would happen if you took someone who hadn't seen Scooby since they were 7 years old (and honestly had a pretty negative outlook against it then) and tried to "fix" it, only his memory was so bad he just made up problems (and threw in a good helping of early 2000s style sexism with it) convincing pretty much the entirety of the popular culture that said problems exist and that Gunn was absolutely brilliant for fixing them (and then bringing up said "problems" whenever anyone wants to talk about Scooby) and this entire rant has been without even fucking MENTIONING what is probably the reason you, anonymous tumblr user sent this ask in the first place, to I, Swishy "Scrappy Doo Redemption Arc" Broke-on-books (dot tumblr dot com), which is his HIGHLY SUCESSFUL and utterly sadistic character assassination of my number one man, Scrappy Doo.

And I am going to try my damnedest here not to get totally into my highly passionate opinions over what James Gunn did to Scrappy in the first of his Scooby movies and how thoroughly it has pissed me the fuck off because I have been writing this post for over an hour now and if we start to really get into my feelings on this topic it will certainly be a couple of hours more but like. That Fucking Bitch. I give James Gunn personally a solid eighty-five percent of the blame for making my life as a Scrappy Doo fan UTTERLY unbearable with this stupid fucking movie alone, and just his Scrappy crimes would honestly be enough for me to say that I hate this movie, not even considering the numerous Scooby crimes I've been talking about here for the past million paragraphs, but the part about this movie that makes me the MOST mad the most pissed off is that it's actually a good fucking movie. James Gunn wrote two hilarious and entertaining movies that have become beloved in the popular culture for their successes in that arena, while at the same time pissing all over the core themes and messages of the franchise of which it was based, that of friendship.

TLDR; The Live Action Scooby Doo movies (written by James Gunn) are highly entertaining and fun pieces of media to watch, and are widely loved by the general public and looked at with fondness and nostalgia because of that. However, as a hardcore Scooby Doo fan (writing that phrase sounds so ridiculous but oh well) the existence of these movies and their impact on the popular culture can be extremely frustrating (despite any personal nostalgia said fan may have) due to their spreading of a misinformed picture of what "typical Scooby Doo" looks like. This picture is especially frustrating due to the fabrication or exaggeration of problems present in classic Scooby (such as sexism in regards to the girls), as well as giving more ammunition to other problems in Scooby fandom (such as oversexualization, and sexualization in general, which no one wants to see in regards to their children's cartoons, like HONESTLY.) Discussions of sexism and sexualization in Scooby (both of which ARE present and are issues, although not at their worst in WAY) can often lead to an overlooking of the issues that are very present and clear in WAY and have continued since then with far too little resistance (I'm 100% talking about the racism here) HOWEVER that topic deserves at least a dozen posts of its own that I am no way informed or qualified enough to even begin to think about writing. The Gunn Movies are frustrating to many longtime Scooby fans because of these reasons, but for me, and fellow Scrappy Doo fans there is also the added aspect of the demonization of Scrappy Doo in the live action movies and the affects that has had on the popular culture as well, making it uniquely inhospitable to like or enjoy the character of Scrappy.
