When we were young
Prompt: You want to build a blanket fort
Character: Andy Biersack
A/N: I don't own the lyrics used in this or the song. I just went with one that he sang with his wife. This is just fiction and I have nothing against his wife.
Y/n sat backstage watching her best friend and his band play for thousands of people.
When the show was almost over, she looked up and saw him motion for her to come out on stage.
She shook her head but she saw his smile.
“My best friend is here tonight but she’s being shy.” He said into the mic. “What do you think Niagara Falls, do you think we can get her to come out?”
The crowd screamed and Y/n playfully glared at him.
“Come on Y/n/n. Come on out.” He said into the mic again and the crowd started chanting.
She sighed and slowly walked out.
She walked passed Jinxx and CC to stand next to him.
He smiled. “Y/n/n has an amazing voice. Would you like to hear it Niagara Falls?”
The crowd screamed louder.
He stepped back and handed the mic to her with a big smile.
She took the mic and laughed.
“Andy should know better by now.”
Andy laughed as Jinxx moved his mic over so Andy could use it.
“So Andy, what song are you making me sing?”
“Anyone of ours that you want to sing.” Andy said with a smile.
“Fine but you owe me.” She said with a smirk. “How about When we were young.”
The crowd went nuts.
“I guess that’s your answer.”
Y/n smiled and nodded.
The guys started playing the tune as Andy and Y/n got into position.
Andy: “Everybody loves the things you do From the way you talk to the way you move 'Cause everybody here is watching you 'Cause you feel like home You're like a dream come true
But if by chance you're here alone Can I have a moment before I go? 'Cause I've been by myself all night long Hoping you're someone I used to know
You look like a movie You sound like a song My God, this reminds me Of when we were young!
Let me photograph you in this light in case it is the last time That we might be exactly like we were before we realized We were sad of getting old, it made us restless It was just like a movie It was just like a song!”
Y/n: “I was so scared to face my fears Nobody told me that you'd be here And I swear, you'd moved overseas That's what you said when you left me
You still look like a movie You still sound like a song My God, this reminds me Of when we were young!”
Andy + Y/n: “Let me photograph you in this light in case it is the last time That we might be exactly like we were before we realized We were sad of getting old, it made us restless It was just like a movie It was just like a song!”
Y/n: “(when we were young) (When we were young) (When we were young) (When we were young)”
Andy + Y/n: “It's hard to admit that (when we were young) Everything just takes me back (when we were young) To when you were there (when we were young) To when you were there (when we were young)
And a part of me keeps holding on (when we were young)Just in case it hasn't gone (when we were young)I guess I still care (when we were young)Do you still care? (When we were young)”
Y/n: “It was just like a movie It was just like a song My God, this reminds me Of when we were young!
oh!(When we were young) (When we were young) when we were young (When we were young) when we were young”
Andy + Y/n: “Let me photograph you in this light in case it is the last time That we might be exactly like we were before we realized (yeah) We were sad of getting old, it made us restless (I'm getting old) Oh, I'm so mad I'm getting old, it makes me reckless (yeah)
It was just like a movie It was just like a song When we were young”
When they were done, the crowd screamed and cheered.
Y/n looked at Andy and smiled.
“Now the world knows your voice Y/n.” Andy said with a smile.
“I think you have to add me to some other songs now to please the masses Andy.” Y/n said with a laugh.
“What do you all think. Should we have Y/n sing on some of our new songs?”
The crowd screamed yes.
Andy nodded and smiled. “Okay we will but for now, Y/n is most likely ready to get off the stage.”
“Yeah, you have one more song to sing and then we need to go to the next venue.” Y/n said before walking off the stage.
She stayed by the side as they finished the show and Andy walked off stage to her.
“Jerk!”
Andy smiled and pulled Y/n into a hug.
“I knew you wouldn’t do it any other way.”
“Yeah well you owe me and I’m ready to go back to the bus.”
Andy nodded and they walked out to the tour bus.
As they were walking, Y/n put her arm around his waist because of how short she was compared to him.
He put his arm around her shoulders with a smile.
“So what do you want to do when we get on the bus?”
“I want to build a blanket fort.”
He looked at her with wide eyes. “You want to build a blanket fort?”
She nodded.
He smiled. “Okay.”
She put her head on his shoulder as they got closer to the tour bus.
Once they got on the bus, she grabbed all the extra blankets she brought and walked to their room and dropped them on the bed.
Andy smiled and walked in behind her with more pillows.
“What do you want me to do baby girl?”
“Help me hang the blankets please. I’m too short to reach.”
Andy nodded and started hanging the blankets around the bed while she put the pillows where she wanted them.
He watched her move around the bed with a smile wondering how he got so god damn lucky to have found her when they were younger.

A delightful part of the Fort Meigs museum is this dress-up area for children, with child-sized replica clothing for different groups present in 1813, and an illustrative mural on the wall.
The soldier at far right is labeled Native American but looks more Shawnee specifically, and is from Tecumseh's Confederacy. The British redcoat is from the 41st Regiment of Foot, who were deployed to Canada in 1799 and saw action throughout the Niagara region and the old northwest. I like that the fatigue dress at far left shows the US forage cap, although I think the long, tasseled style was also in use.
19th US Infantry uniform looks correct... Ohio militia maybe not so much? All US War of 1812 state militia are always depicted in that stupid hideous frontiersy get-up, especially if they're from "western" states. I think it's supposed to imply that they did not have standard uniforms like a professional army. An extant Ohio militia uniform in the museum looks nothing like this, however!
Tumblr media
This wool militia coatee was worn by Thomas Armstrong at Fort Meigs in 1812-1813. His militia company was raised in Lisbon, Ohio, near the Pennsylvania border. Typical of the problems with state militias in the War of 1812, most of Armstrong's company returned home before they even reached Fort Meigs, because their terms of enlistment had expired.
It was an emotional experience to be so close to an extant uniform! Armstrong does not appear to have been small in stature, from his coatee, and the waist is not small, although clever tailoring with the dolman-style buttons and piping makes it look more pinched-in. (Remind me to show you the absurdly wasp-waisted War of 1812 uniform from Kentucky). More civilian fashion influences can be seen in the long coattails.

Niagara Region has declared a state of emergency for homelessness, mental health and opioid addiction.
The regional council voted almost unanimously during a Feb. 23 meeting to make the three separate declarations to help address the crises facing the region and ask for federal and provincial support.
Paramedics in the region responded to 657 suspected opioid overdoses in 2022 and 1,001 in 2021. There were 49 in January.
The area is home to around 485,000 people and includes St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie.
"Everyone has been touched by this ... We've had so many funerals of our kids, so many funerals of our loved ones," said Steve Borisenko, whose 21-year-old son Jacob died of an accidental drug overdose nearly two years ago. [...]

Day 10, Thursday, Sept 14: Buffalo, NY, to Border to Fort Erie, Welland, Winona, Stoney Creek, and Toronto, Ontario. 216 kms.
I wake up early in Amherst. I'll be crossing the border today and want to miss traffic. I'll also be revisiting my old haunts where I grew up - the Niagara Fruit Belt and Escarpment areas, Winona, and Stoney Creek. When it comes to big city lights, I was a late bloomer.
To start, the town of Amherst is not high-end, but it's clean and pretty and perched on the east side of Buffalo, so I'll be riding through Buffalo to get to the border..
Buffalo is actually the 6th largest city in NY. In 1825, after its harbor was improved, Buffalo was selected as the terminus of the Erie Canal, which led to its incorporation in 1832. The canal stimulated its growth as the primary inland port between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Transshipment made Buffalo the world's largest grain port of that era. After the coming of railroads greatly reduced the canal's importance, the city became the second-largest railway hub (after Chicago). During the mid-19th century, Buffalo transitioned to manufacturing, which came to be dominated by steel production. Later, deindustrialization and the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway saw the city's economy decline and diversify. It developed its service industries, such as health care, retail, tourism, logistics, and education,
I'm soon at the border where crossing is uneventful other than border crossings, and toll booths in general being a huge pain in the neck when you're on a motorcycle. There is just far too much fiddling with gloves, helmets, and pockets, all while holding up the bike.
Once across, I veer away from the QEW and head for Fort Erie, Welland, and Smithville along the top of the escarpment. It's pretty farm country made doubly familiar and comfortable by virtue of both having grown up here and being back in my own country.
It's been over a week since I treated myself to a real breakfast, so I stop in Welland for bacon and eggs. One of my favourite parts of these trips is bad breakfasts in small town diners.
I push on across the escarpment past Smithville and Grimsby to Winona. The view of Lake Ontario from the top of McNeilly Road, where I grew up, is a lot more built up than I grew up with, but still undeniably impressive.
I descend McNeilly Rd to Lacoma Drive at the foot of the escarpment where my parents and grandparents had a small fruit and vegetable farm. The "co" in "Lacoma Drive" comes from Cook. I grew up surrounded by apples, grapes, peaches, cherries, corn, raspberries, strawberries, plums, and greenhouses full of fresh tomatoes.
Not surprisingly, it's all gone now, replaced by corn, soy beans, and houses. What is a big surprise is my grandparents' house. It has been torn down and is being replaced by a monster home, whose owner I suppose wanted that Niagara Escarpment backdrop and Lake Ontario view.
I've seen enough. I press on to Mountview Gardens to visit my parents. Sighhh, as I've been aptly reminded today, time and tide wait for no one.
I have a quiet chat with my mom and dad and then climb back on my bike. It's been a pensive day, and it's time to start mentally preparing for Toronto traffic and to go home.
