hot take: kingdom hearts dream drop distance - last good KH game

#I'm just starting kh3 and idk it's just so different #Like the artstyle is all up to date with what current hardware can handle #But I'm not sure if that's a good thing #It lost some of its stylization which is such a shame #And choosing Olympus colosseum ON FIRE for the first level is also questionable #It's so dull and desaturated and looks like any other shitty AAA game #Also Sora looks kinda weird here #Like Sora from the cutscenes in all the rest of the games still looked like Sora but there's something off about this one #And why did they change so many small things that were consistent in all the rest of the games?? Before the finals, I thought I'd add two more games to this impromptu mini-tournament. At first, I thought I would just stick to the main three but thought it better to include this and Dream Drop Distance since both have unique worlds.

I will not be including Chain of Memories, Days, or Re: Coded as none of these really have unique worlds are are mostly repeats from either KHI or KHII. Usually KHI.

In this poll, I won't include Destiny Island for only having cutscenes and Mirage Arena for having no plot.

100% Kingdom Hearts 1 (Day 9)

Current Target: Proud Player

I touched grass the other day. Not even the kind you get in the jazz cigarettes. This one was the kind that sprouted from the ground in a lovely park with other real people. It’s the only real excuse I have for not posting updates. I felt the need for sunlight on my cheeks. Craved it in fact. Best I got was an hour of sun before the heavens tore open like a godly goatse and forced me back into my hovel.

I wandered around Traverse Town while Donald and Goofy did much the same. Eventually we collided with each other and a tenuous relationship was formed after a boss fight. The fight wasn’t terribly hard either, but the damage was certainly felt. It made me wish that I could swap in some equipment mid fight. Every hit upon my supple body was like being aggressively high fived by Andre the Giant.

Soon we were aboard the Gummi to go find our friends and a cultural icon and headed to Wonderland. It was here I began to understand the pacing of Kingdom Hearts a little better. Previously I considered much of these worlds extraneous. They simply didn’t need to exist for the most part. While I still believe some worlds simply needed not to happen, Deep Jungle and Atlantica for example, they serve their purposes in the overall narrative fairly well.

Wonderland shows that princesses (or at the very least young women) are being kidnapped for nefarious purposes, meanwhile Deep Jungle was about how darkness and the Heartless can corrupt. Granted, I feel like the Queen of Hearts could’ve served that purpose. Given she is the Queen of Hearts and this is a game about hearts. Feels a bit like a missed opportunity.

The real disjointed feeling portions of the game sadly come from Olympus Colosseum which I remember quite liking as a kid. Olympus simply has no pull outside of Hades being one of the big bads. But there’s no real discussion of anything here. No talk of keyholes or of hearts.  Just gotta get through Sora if you wanna kill Hercules. I feel like I don’t remember Hades ever really being involved except for the bits and pieces here and there you see him speaking to Maleficent. She should’ve at least said something about what the grand plan was.

You’re made to feel like she has this entire Machiavellian plot when all she has is the most dysfunctional version of the Legion of Doom. I suppose it’s on brand for a bunch of Disney villains to be incredibly self serving, but you’d hope at least the head of it had some sort of grand scheme. It felt like there was none. But I’m not that far in. Maybe we’ll get a grand reveal by Hollow Bastion.

Until then, finishing up Wonderland, Olympus, and Deep Jungle taught me that while this game did have a reason for many of these worlds in setting up some of the baser principles (we need princesses and darkness corrupts, etc.) it still feels a little strange. It honestly feels like you’re going to these worlds for nostalgia over any sort of clear narrative. But, this is the early game. Next up is the second half of worlds.

This is my character and her fighting style is different and she is a very aggressive warrior. And it was Michelle audette and on the front you see a lion and it is real and not in this image but it is a real lion and it looks like that it's closed and she has a small mane and they do grow those it feels a lot of people. You people are feeding their kids to these Lions to watch them get real big and it was a game when you were having them killed and fight them in the Colosseum and they would beat a few and then to get hurt and you'd see how the mighty have fallen and they remembered it and they did this and you didn't remember what you're doing it made them furious and it started to attack you now you have these butt brains in the way which is fine and because of what we're doing and there's evidence that we are up there no it's these two and their clans more so escapes a lot of alive so good luck with this today

I’ve been thinking about playing Kingdom Hearts for a while now, and your post has finally convinced me. Do you have any tips for new comers getting into the game?

Remember to go back to Traverse Town sometimes. It's easy to forget but it's a good idea to go to the Dalmatians house, 100 Acre Wood book, and the Synthesis shop sometimes to see if theres more you can do there.

It is possible to use the Olympus Colosseum to grind exp, but I reccomended getting to fight one battle (whichever one gives the most exp) over and over rather than the whole tournament to make it go faster. You can also just go to the world with the highest battle level you have unlocked and run around killing heartless if the Colosseum isn't giving as much exp.

If you need to grind items, look up what heartless drops them and find somewhere with that heartless. You can respawn them after killing them by going 2 rooms away and coming back.

Give your party members items before boss battles and remember to customize their battle patterns, equipment, and abilities sometimes (this applies to Sora as well, don't forget to equip better items and abilities if you have them!).

Also if you plan on playing all of them (like I am), it seems like most people agree that you should go in release order rather than chronological order.

My demigod name is Diana, but my mortal name is Daniella. My demigod name, Diana was given to me by my divine father, Mars. It means 'divine'. I relate to this because I am a demigod, which is a divine being.

It's also the same name as the Roman goddess of the amazons, Diana. However, I am not her. We are two different beings. Or maybe I am also her war-like attribute, in another dimension, within the multi-metaverse. Who knows?

Anyway, I am the oracle, Diana from the Olympian gods' prophecy, which said that one day I would come. Like the goddess, Diana, I am both an oracle and warrior.

MY MORTAL NAME, DANIELLA:

My mortal name, which my mortal parents gave me is, Daniella.

The name, Daniella means, 'Judged by God', in Hebrew. I relate to this because I feel like my life is a test to prove myself to the gods, through completing my quest.

The name, Daniella ends is 'el'. The word, 'El' means god, in the Semitic languages. So anyone whose name ends in, el could be very god-like.

Also, Daniella is the female version of Daniel. There was disciple of Jesus named Daniel who was thrown to the lions, in the Colosseum and tamed them. I relate to this, because one of my demigod powers is to tame wild animals and I was used by the gods as a gladiator for their entertainment, in their arena, on Mount Olympus, in my past-life. It also reminds me of when Hercules fought the Nemean lion. Whoever is named Daniel, Danielle or Daniella must be very brave gladiators.

MY DEMIGOD NICKNAME,

'TITAN' FROM MARS:

I don't exactly remember how I got my demigod nickname, 'Titan' from Mars. I just remember that I didn't choose my demigod nickname, 'Titan from Mars'-rather it chose me.

There are two possibilities for how I got my demigod nickname, 'Titan from Mars':

1. The nickname, 'Titan from Mars' just randomly popped in my head, without me even trying to come up with a demigod nickname. It's like a divine revelation that descended from the heavens over Mount Olympus-Like the gods had chosen it for me.

2. The Olympian gods &/or my divine father, The Roman War God, Mars were saying how I am like a Titan from Mars, because I aspire to super-human like the Titans and remember fighting in a Titan war, on a Martian planet.

Either way, I was then immediately like 'That's the name! That's what my demigod nickname should be from now on!' with enthusiasm. It stuck from then on.

NOTES:

-To be clear, I am not literally a Titan or a Titan from Mars, but metaphorically one. 'Titan from Mars' isn't a literal phrase, but just my demigod nickname and a metaphor.

My demigod nickname, 'Titan from Mars' reminds me of the following:

1. In my past-life, I remember that demigods, (esp. starchild demigods) were nicknamed 'The Titans', because they were super fast, strong, as well as athletic and had super-powers. Also, because some had the power to grow to god-size, in their transcendental demigod form. We demigods also called ourselves 'Team Titans' and 'The Demigod Squad' when we worked on quests together.

2. The demigod team, in Class of The Titans (an old TV show about a school for modern demigods).

3. In my past-life, Mars created my demigod soul from fire, celestial bronze and the soil, on planet Mars. I was raised and trained by him, in his military base, there, before I was born.

4. A Titan lifting the planet Mars or zooming from this planet to Earth in a lightning flash / at the speed of light.

5. My book in The Akashic Records read something like, 'Mighty Titans born of both earth and sky / stars with the powers of planets Jupiter and Mars shall conquer or unite the worlds.' Not sure what that means. Sounds like some prophecy about starchild demigods coming to save the world with super-powers, which they receive from the planets.

-My divine father, Mars nick-named me 'Little Ember', because I am a fragment of his soul, which is a flame.

-My Roman military comrades nick-named me 'Shadow Legion' and 'Shield Wall', because I was exceptional at flanking and holding the line.

-A demigod name is the name that your divine parent named you and may be different from you mortal / birth name, (e.g. Harry's demigod name being Hercules in tge TV series, Class of The Titans or Jesus's demigod name being Elijah, David or something (can't remember. Sorry).

-There are two Deianeiras in Greek mythology and Diana is a popular name, so I can't see why there can't be two Dianas.
