Miscommunication | Daniëlle van de Donk
Tumblr media
Pairing: Daniëlle van de Donk x Reader
Summary: If your past has taught you anything, it's that people leave. So, when your girlfriend doesn't come back after an arguement, you think you've lost her.
masterlist | woso masterlist | words: 710
Usually you would drive to practice together with your girlfriend, however Daniëlle hadn’t come home after your argument earlier. She said she just needed to clear her head before you had to go back to work but from past experiences you knew that it was more than just clearing her head. In past relationships, whether those were friendships, romantic relationships, or even your parents, everyone always ended up leaving. You were waiting by the door for her to come back home until the latest time you could without being late for practice. When you realized she wasn’t coming to pick you up, you went to grab your bag. That’s when you saw that Daan her bag wasn’t there, she had to have taken it, planning to not come back here. With a heavy heart you grabbed your own bag and walked towards your car.
You barely managed to arrive at the field without crying, taking a deep breath before you got out of the car. Stepping into the dressing room everyone turned around and greeted you, you said a quick hello back and took an empty seat. “Hey, where’s Daan? I thought you always drove here together?” Jackie asks. “I don’t know and I don’t want to talk about it.” You said not looking anyone in the eyes. You got dressed quickly, without any further small talk as you could feel everyones concerned looks towards you, leaving the dressing room and making your way towards the field. You get some warm ups in and start running laps around the field. Running usually helps you make sense of your emotions.
Meanwhile in the dressing room, the room goes quiet as Daniëlle walks in. “Well.. hello to you too.” She jokes as she plops her bag down on the bench. “Seriously, why did you all stop talking as soon as I walked in?” The team looks confused, how did Daan sound so chipper, while y/n seemed to be on the verge of a breakdown over her. “Y/n was just in here and she seemed rather upset. We asked her about you and she basically stormed off.” Viv explains. “Shit..” Daan says before running out of the dressing room herself.
She finds you on the field quickly and runs up to you. “Hey baby, what’s going on? Training hasn’t started yet.” That’s when she sees your tear stained cheeks. She stops you by grabbing your arm. “Talk to me, what’s going on?” She says as she wipes a tear from your cheek. You pull your face away as she does so, “Please, don’t. Don’t do that, you can’t walk out on me one second, taking your bag with you and planning to not come back, and care for me the next second.”
“Oh, baby, I’m so sorry that it seemed that way. My bag was in my car already, and I went home to pick you up, but you were already gone. I hadn’t realized the time while I was clearing my head. I would never just leave you, I promise.” She tries wiping the tears off your cheeks again, this time you let her. “I just needed a moment to clear my head because I didn’t want to start an argument because I was frustrated, I knew that wouldn’t get us anywhere. We just had a little disagreement which got us both frustrated, that does not mean I am leaving. You are so important to me and I will always choose to work on fixing us. I love you, y/n.” You fall into her arms, she always knows what to say to make you feel better. “I love you too.”
The team joins you on the field. You quickly wipe away your tears before you both join them. Your teammates are relieved to see that the two of you are acting as you usually do. Back home after training the two of you sit down and talk about your earlier disagreement. Since you are no longer in the middle of your frustrations, you are both able to have a healthy discussion about your feelings and wants in similar future situations. You end up resolving the disagreement quickly and decide to call it an early night, spend cuddling in bed.

Frenkie de Jong: I came here with the conviction to become a world champion. If you then go out in the quarter-finals, it's really disappointing.

World Cup Final | Daniëlle van de Donk
Tumblr media
Pairing: Daniëlle van de Donk x Reader
Summary: It's the last ten minutes of the world cup final against the United States, with an even score, what will happen when the team is exhausted but still needs to score a goal to win?
Warnings: injury and blood. A/n: repost from my old account @woso-x-reader
masterlist | woso masterlist | words: 809
You were eighty minutes into the most important game of your life, the world cup finale against the United States. The score had been 3-3 for the past 15 minutes, your American opponents scoring the goal that erased your lead on them. It was an intense game, you were all giving it your everything. All five substitutions had been used, in order to get some fresh legs on the field.
Aniek passes the ball over to you on the midfield, as you turn with the ball you’re immediately blocked by Lindsay Horan and Ashley Sanches. The latter of which shoves you to the ground. Since it was all happening so quickly, Horan’s cleat meets your arm as she tries to kick the ball back to their side of the field. You grab your arm out of pain, when you look down you see there is blood running down your arm. Your girlfriend Daniëlle comes running your way as Lindsay helps you sit up.
You see the rage on Daniëlle's face as she approaches you and Lindsay, and are quick to grab her arm, “Not worth it.” She holds back and sits down by your side. Lindsay says another quick sorry before running off to join her team. The referee had called over the medical team in the meantime. They take a look at the cut, spray it with some disinfectant, and put pressure on it with a piece of gauze.
“I’m fine, I need to finish the game.” The medics look at each other. “Oh, come on, please, I promise you can do whatever you need to do in ten minutes when the game is over.” Since you seem to be fine besides the bleeding from the cut, they agree to let you finish the game. They put a bandage around your arm, before they let you go. Daniëlle helps you up, and runs back to her place on the field. Spitse takes the free kick you earned and kicks the ball forward. Sadly the ball was overtaken by the opponents.
The sweat mixing with the blood is making it look even worse as you bleed through the bandage, and it starts running down your arm. Right now, you don’t care about that, all you care about is the game. Only three minutes left before the time is up. You have to score now, or the game will go into penalties, which you weren’t hoping for.
Beerensteyn has the ball in the far right corner of the field, ready to give an assist to someone in the box, but her ball deflects off of Alex Morgan, earning your team a corner kick. As the last minutes are ticking down, almost your whole team is in or around the box, while Sherida gets ready to take the shot. She raises her hand, signaling that she’s ready to kick the ball. You follow the ball with your eyes as it comes your way. You jump up and head the ball in the direction of the goal. Time seems to slow down as you watch the ball inch closer to the goal.
The crowd erupts in cheer as the ball crosses the line. Your teammates are running towards you from all sides hugging you and patting you on the back. You were in the lead, with only one minute to go! “You did it, baby!” Daniëlle says to you when it’s her turn to hug you.
The game continues as the referee has not yet blown the whistle. The goalkeeper kicks the ball away and as it lands on the field, you hear the whistle. You fall to your knees, happy tears streaming down your face. You scored the winning goal in the world cup final. All the hard work the team poured into this had paid off, you won! Daniëlle is quickly by your side once again, this time only hugging you in joy.
The team celebrates together on the field, while also shaking hands with the American players, and telling them that it was a good game. You take a quick break from celebrating and walk up to the medics, like you promised. They clean out the cut properly and give you a fresh bandage.
You run up to your teammates once you’re done. Grabbing Daniëlle and kissing her. You put your foreheads together, taking in the moment, when a Dutch flag gets thrown at you by one of your teammates. You unfold it and wrap it around the both of you. Hand in hand, you walk towards the section your families are sitting in together, to celebrate it with them as well.
The celebration goes on for a long time, and it will be a day you will remember for the rest of your life. Happy to be able to share it with your girlfriend and your amazing teammates.

Column Vivianne Miedema | Don't you like that I like women: fine, but then I don't have time for you
Tumblr media
Vivianne Miedema sees that there is still a huge difference between men's and women's football when it comes to gay acceptance. She is therefore disappointed that Feyenoord player Orkun Kökçü decided not to wear the special OneLove bracelet. When I got into a relationship with a woman, I told my family and friends about it pretty quickly. I've been open about that and it's never been a struggle for me. Because my environment has always accepted me as I am. My grandfather and grandmother in Drenthe, for example, from a different generation, have always held me in their arms. That has been a good thing for me, because I know very well that something like this cannot be taken for granted.
I am grateful for that. Though that's not the right word. In fact, gay acceptance should be the most natural thing in the world. I've been pretty clear about it from the start. If you don't like that I'm into women, fine, but then I don't have time for you.
But I'm not naive. I know that it is not easy for many boys and girls to be themselves. It's not an issue in women's football. It is the most normal thing in the world there, just as you would want it everywhere. I would prefer to live in a world where it is not necessary to wear any band at all to show that everyone is equal.
We don't live in that world. And if I'm gone in sixty years, the ideal world probably still doesn't exist. This is not a matter of months, but of generations. You don't snap your fingers and everyone accepts each other. That is why we as a football world must continue to draw attention to the fact that everyone can be who he or she is. Orientation, religion, race. Exactly what the OneLove campaign is for.
I am therefore disappointed that Orkun Kökçü did not want to wear that special captain's armband. I understand that it was quite a difficult situation for him, given his Islamic background. But he could also have embraced the bigger message. He can be proud that as a Turkish Dutchman he is the captain of Feyenoord, a club with such an impact. He is also not your standard Dutch boy next door and yet he is, rightly, appreciated for what he does. OneLove should therefore also be close to his heart.
The reality is that when it comes to accepting others, people are stuck with their beliefs or other values they grew up with. You can't even blame a lot of people for that, sometimes they don't know any better. But I do see it as the task of our influential football world to make people think about this continuously.
Fortunately, many people who are open-minded work in women's football. Everyone is valued. In men's football, that seems to be more difficult. A culture has developed there where it is not okay if you do not fit into a certain box. Hector Bellerin played at my club Arsenal, now playing for FC Barcelona. In addition to football, he is involved in fashion. That's always crazy to look at. This also applies to players who, for example, are committed to a better environment.
Be who you are, do what you like. All this is not self-evident. It's a matter of the long haul. That is why it is a pity that the KNVB has canceled the following action after the fuss of last week . We need to keep talking about this topic. Being able to write about this theme is a great thing.
