Anon I'm making heart hands at you rn. Y'all are so good about humouring me when I keep putting obscure ships in front of you lmao.

10. Describe their first date.

This is the most fun question to me because I think it really depends on who is hanging out with who. If it's all three, they probably stay in, attempt a complicated recipe they have no right to attempt - Eugene and Mary both read the instructions but only Eugene follows them and Sid has been relegated to prep work only since the Great Oven Fire - and have drinks, listen to music, maybe play a game. This would be Mary-directed, largely; like so many aspects of their coming together, she would think it was important to have a formal 'date', so to speak, that isn't just 'we happened to hang out because we were all home at the same time'.

Sid and Mary's first date was definitely him showing up early to pick her up - the first and last time Sid was early for anything - and nervously but steadfastly pulling out all the stops. They had a picnic. Maybe they rented a rowboat.

Eugene and Mary's first date was after they all lived together. He did the asking, she was delighted, they went to a book store and for coffee on the other side of town where no one knows them.

Eugene and Sid went fishing together and nearly tipped the boat giving each other hickeys because they're such Boys when it's just them.

11. Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell?

Eugene would love to hide his feelings but tragically it's not one of his gifts. He gets withdrawn and Mary is great at gently trying to redirect that energy without drawing attention to it. Sid is a golden retriever who can't leave him alone but it's always so well-meaning and they know each other so well that resulting spats are very minor.

Mary would love to hide her feelings too, but she's a fixer; if she's upset, they can tell because she's immediately trying to do something about it. Sid is an 'I'll help you fix it unless you ask me not to' and Eugene is an 'I'll leave you alone unless you ask me not to'. She doesn't know what to do about how awful of a war they both had and how they still carry it around so none of them talk about that.

Sid doesn't hide his feelings on purpose, necessarily; he's the king of sincerity but he keeps ending up in situations where there isn't much room for his shit. See: he and Eugene after Eugene arrives in the Pacific. The three of them after he invites Eugene into their house. Eugene and Mary have to figure out how to make that space for him.

12. Do they have many heated arguments? How do they smooth things over?

Once they're past the initial figuring things out, no - Eugene and Sid bicker but they have each other's little hangups mostly figured out. Their spats don't last long. Sid is an 'I brought you flowers' apologizer, Mary is a 'come here, let me touch your face and say I'm sorry' type, and Eugene is a 'I was holding a grudge for a few hours but now I've come to stand with you in the kitchen and help you with this thing you're doing until you forgive me'.

13. Who’s the bigger tease?

Mary. It's not that hard, either - those two idiots are helplessly into her. They'll all be grey and she'll still whisper something in their ears or touch their backs when they're out and it'll turn their heads.

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

Mary and Eugene are alike in many ways and Sid is their opposite, but there is something about being three, in an era and situation where it's really them against the world, where they're never out of balance for long.

15. Do they always say 'i love you' before leaving?

Not necessarily in so many words, but they always acknowledge each other. The boys will come around the house to tell Mary when they'll be back if she's outside gardening. Mary will ask if anyone needs anything while she's out. Sid will dole out cheek kisses even when he's late for his classes.

favorite thing about them

i know it's kind of trendy lately to be like i love evil women <3 and like while i don't think teresa is evil i do love exploring the aspects of her character that other people and the narrative dislike about her. at the end of the day this is a girl who genuinely just wants to do good. she wants to leave the world better than she found it, she wants to solve problems, she wants to help. but she takes this motivation to such an extreme that she sometimes actively causes more harm in the process. but to her the net outcome is worth it. i love exploring that morally gray area, of someone who is willing to do despicable acts in the name of the greater good, someone who will torture you for data but the truest part of them is that they are kind. she is so complex and i love that about her.

i am going to contradict myself but like she do be torturing people though :(

no but to expand beyond that i do think she is a bit too willing to go by the whims of her authority figures and not question them. she seems convinced there are no alternatives because WCKD says so, but if she took the time to think of it for herself rather than try her hardest at their procedures, would she find another way? a better, more ethical way? it's possible. but she's so blindsided by her belief in WCKD and what they are trying to achieve that she doesn't stop to consider alternate approaches. i feel like this could extend beyond this or even canon to other aspects of her life; the idea that once you have decided one way is the correct way, it takes a lot to stray you from the path.

Ok rewatching Frozen on a whim right, thought it would be fun to see where Hans turns evil.

Thing is, it's not a gradual shift. Like this is generally a nice guy. Sure he's freaking crazy with the proposal. Sure he probably thought he had a way into the royal family through her, that makes sense. However, a lot of the shit he pulls isn't exactly the most evil thing to do. When taking care of the castle he's giving out how good and drink to the people of Arrindale. Like Idk man he doesn't actually do anything that evil...until those fucking Trolls happened.

Like it's one thing to put on an act, like in "Love is an open door". That I can see as him pretending to like Anna. However, he genuinely cares what happens to her??? If he intended to kill her off or something then??? Why was he looking awestruck after her when she's gone??? Whispering to her "be safe"???

Yet, during the song "Fixer-upper" Kristoff's troll family (who famously uses magic and are "love experts") they say they have to simply get rid of her fiancé and then Kristoffer and Anna can get hitched. Then the next time we see him he's suddenly revealing this whole master minded plan to knock off the last two members of the royal family and take the thrown.

All I'm saying is that if these Rocky freaks are going around saying "Loves a force that's powerful and strange" in defense of trying to push together an (albeit stupidly) engaged young woman.

Kristoff is obviously not that sociable. Being raised by grisly ice miners then brought up by isolated rock trolls, he's not around other people that much. Let alone his own age and forget about girlfriends. If these love-obsessed boulders are that into love and romance and shit then obviously they'd want that for poor old Kristoff over here.

Point of the story is, I think his troll mom and cousin did some love spell before grandpa troll could stop em', leaving Mr. Hans as the only barrier between their little clans otp. Like am I saying what he did was good or right??

NO!! Obviously that is not the point I'm trying make. What I am saying however, is that I think that those trolls are putting chemicals in the water and making the freaking princes gay evil they made him evil while Anna was away and now he's evil but he wasn't before.

No I'm not a Hans apologist but I know foul play when I see it.

So I'm here to say that I really love your Bingyuan fic! The research you do for it and share with us is just amazing! I also have a q regarding LBG. From SV we know that he felt admiration for his Shizun so do you think that if SJ wasn't cruel to him LBG's admiration would've grown into love and attraction like it did in LBH's case for SY? Which then also raises a question: would LBH/LBG fall in love with any Shizun who was kind to him? Or was he just drawn to SJ's type of personality. WDYT?

Hi there, Anon! I’m glad you’re liking the Untold Tale! Thanks for reading! I think it lowkey helps when the story I’m writing (in general) is from a culture I’m familiar with and that I know some of its language nuances (just general Mainland dialect; I’m unfamiliar with Shanghainese, the Beijing dialect, etc etc). So fortunately for me, as someone who is Chinese but was born in the Western side of the world speaking Mandarin to family and friends, emulating the Chinese aesthetic and atmosphere in TUT comes a little bit easier to me than someone who did not grow up with this culture. I bet if I had been raised in China, I would be able to write something even more multilayered and deep but, alas, the youthful rebellious me of the past hadn’t taken my pinyin and Chinese character writing lessons seriously so I can only communicate verbally and understand audibly 😫. It’s very special for us writers in fandoms to be able to write a story of a culture that we actually know and can identify with. But high key it’s been immensely fun injecting some references of things I’ve come to notice from watching period C-dramas and the C-novels I’ve read, and I’ve come to learn interesting things about Chinese history and mythology even I didn’t know! So the story really writes itself.

Shen Jiu (OG!Shen Qingqiu)

To answer your question 🤔, to be honest this is why the SVSSS fandom is great—because there’s so many interpretations of the original source material. That’s why we have our headcanons and fanfictions to explore these many different possibilities. So for me personally, I can see it happening both ways: *1) LBG does develop a crush/falls in love with SJ, or 2) no matter how SJ treats him LBG regards him respectfully or coldly. I think Possibility 1 is more likely, since SY transmigrated into SQQ and we saw what happened with “Bunhe.”

Now, mind, for Possibility 1 to be more likely to happen, the SJ in PIDW will have to undergo a massive personality change/ a change of heart/ develop a good conscience and will need to clean up his image aka clear up the massive misunderstandings from PIDW canon (like him being mistaken as a pervert for Ning Yingying, visiting whorehouses, killing LQG, etc). It’ll be difficult though considering who Airplane has changed SJ into for his stallion harem novel (reading through SVSSS, my impression of PIDW besides it being the harem stallion novel is that it sounds similar to a “dog blood plot,” where audiences tune in to see how the villains are brought to justice). I literally have a line from TUT in a future chapter where SY says this about SJ since I will resurrect SJ and bring him into the story for closure:

People like Shen Qingqiu naturally had a set of deeply-rooted values. If one wanted to change them, it’d be easier to just have them reincarnate. (—TUT, ch???)

At his core, he’s a flawed man (which makes sense with the underlying cycle of abuse theory, considering his upbringing and backstory). He’s jealous and petty and prickly. His image is that of a proud and cold immortal. In Chinese terms, he’s the type of character archtype who I can see being àojiāo (definitely not canon characterization; this is just a stray thought that amuses me) in a romantic relationship.

LBH will have to recognize that^, or be in a position where he finds SJ’s caustic side endearing instead. He will also have to be extremely patient with him (although, since the joke in SVSSS is that LBH is an incurable M, it shouldn’t be that hard).

A fun thing about OG!SQQ is that he’s the cannon fodder scumbag villain of PIDW. He’s the reason LBG blackened from a white lotus. And, as you know, villains aka antagonists aka bad boys resonate strongly with people for a reason. That’s why we see a lot of Enemies to Lovers tropes, etc. It squicks me to use this phrase but “the allure of dating a ‘bad boy’ is strong.” SJ is that type of bad boy we could identify as a “fixer-upper project” (ugh, that phrase)—even with the red flags and warning signs—especially for those said to have a troubled past with rejecting neglectful parental figures/ family members/ friends and have have not outgrown their wish to convert that sort of person into a loving, accepting person. When we want something we can’t or shouldn’t have, our desire for it grows exponentially. In fanfiction this is a concept writers and readers can explore safely in a world of the imaginary.

From a Meta Perspective

Although, if we look at it meta-ly, the cold and proud and/or knowledgeable Shizun (teacher/ master) character who comes to know love and “is redeemed” by whomever is the love interest (typically a cute and quirky girl who may or may not have started off as naive to the innerworkings of the Cultivation World and therefore needs an established and mature mentor to guide them) is a very well-known archetype for a reason in Chinese fan culture.

Seeing a terrible person change their ways and try to become a better person because of the influence of the one they love is also a popular depiction for a reason.

It’s almost like gap moe. The crueler and aloof one starts out as (arrogance is a staple), the more impactful the shift is when we see such characters soften their edges.

The draw of the sacred master/disciple relationship is that it’s taboo, so I think it’s fair to say that such a relationship in fiction is a popular trope precisely because of this aspect. From a writer’s perspective, the main appeal is to show that there is someone out there who can cause this respectful figure to lose control (undergo emotional change) and go to great lengths to protect his/her precious person. That precious person also has to fall into the “not like other girls” trope (so they can show the ML a different world he would not have seen the beauty of before). On the other side, we look forward to the point of the story where the love interest has their “Oh” moment and realizes their admiration has somehow shifted into love and attraction over the course of events.

Other Romantic Possibilities

It’s very likely. I personally like the fanon headcanon where anyone with Heavenly Demon blood running through their veins feels a compulsion to “obsessively fixate on one person” (TLJ —> SXY, LBH —> SQQ). Personally I don’t recall if this was canon or fanon, but someone had written something about LBH imprinting on one person in his lifetime on the account of his demon nature. And I like that theory (I think it’s likely more fanon than anything but it’s an intriguing idea full of possibilities!).

For him to fixate romantically on one person, I personally don’t think the prerequisite is just by being kind to LBH (but it probably adds to the person’s appeal). There’s probably other factors that go into this to capture the male protagonist’s eye, such as him finding someone attractive (or passes his own personal standards) and/or having good chemistry with that person. So I could see him being into other Shizuns and whomever else. Personally I also think there is appeal in the unobtainable. It’s one thing to have someone’s affection (see LBG and his harem of 600 wives who definitely aren’t shy about giving him affection), but it’s another to know you’ve earned the affections of someone you really like and respect (especially if it’s someone thought to be unobtainable).

As long as the writer can provide a plausible justification for me to suspend disbelief and they set up events to justify it, I can swallow just about any ship possibility. It doesn’t necessarily have to be SJ’s type of personality. (For example, I read a very good fanfiction before where the writer paired Luo Binghe with Ming Fan. Ming Fan, people!!! And they actually pulled it off! What a madlad! Mind, it’s Shen Yuan who had transmigrated into MF in that premise, but the writer set up events that showed how these two characters came to bond and develop a deep friendship which inevitably had LBH developing a crush on his shixiong. I use this as an example because this is the type of unexpected (crack)ship, but because the writer did their work trying to make it seem plausible, we can only admire their hard work and effort at pulling it off.)

As the saying goes, there are plenty of fishes in the sea! As the protagonist, LBH/LBG can have many OTP possibilities with just about anyone as long as the writer can make it plausible. It’s all about the character development and the story/ central themes they wish to tell with the ship!

Roisin once she gets a handle on it, as we've established. God forbid she send any more unfortunate images when Wes is trying to do a presentation.

That's a good question, I'm not sure... I suppose it depends on what Roisin listens to, and what genres she discovers.

I'm thinking Roisin would be the bigger reader, having been without much technology or internet until recently. (i think)

Definitely Roisin, Wes would likely just dump the kids on her and let her deal with handling them. But she wouldn't have a problem with muchkins..

Albert most likely would be the fixer-upper. He's goes with his hands and very adaptive to environmental changes, so it wouldn't be much of an issue for him to patch a hole and fix a circuit or two.

31. What was the most difficult fic for you to write (but in the end you made it)?

Probably Lights They Blind Me my Agents of Shield Hollywood AU that took me about a year to write and post and is one of the longest fics I've done or We Call This Fixer Upper Home which even though is a One-Shot it took me about 4 months to write and involved many breakdowns.

32. Do you have a word/expression that you always use in your writing?

I'm a huge fan of the oh and I think "Together?" "Together". I use the latter far too much when I can't work out how to end fics but hey I'm a sucker for my OTP working out stuff together.

36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of?

Song titles. So many song titles. I think I should owe both Taylor Swift and Sleeping at Last royalties at this point. Folklore was simply made for fic titles. you drew scars around my stars or Inside, What a Wonderful Caricature of Intimacy has to be my favorite two titles. Pre-Framework-Era Agents of Shield was so much fun to write as nobody knew what to expect so we all just had fun (before canon took that away from us rip)

Do you think Scylla will have to save Raelle by the end of the season, for them to reconcile? I'm thinking, atm, Raelle doesn't need her. She did. At the beginning, Scylla gave her something to hope for, she gave her love & understanding. Now, she knows the r/ship was based on a lie, & the unit is stronger than ever - the unit can give her what Scylla once did. So, surely, the only way they can reconcile is if she needed Scylla again, ie, Scylla saves her from the Spree? Is that the only way?

Okay this one of my potential head canons and I think a lot of us over at MFS RI are vibing the same way. Yes. Scylla will save Raelle. I could easily see a situation where Raelle and the Unit are fighting a three way battle against the military and the Spree, with the Spree still trying to capture Raelle. The unit is trying to break away with Adil because neither the Spree nor the Military are the good guys. They’re both evil. Anacostia releases Scylla because she also sees the truth that the military is bad. They rush to the aid of the unit and Raelle is about to go all self sacrifice to avenge her mother’s death and Scylla jumps in, saving Raelle but mortally wounding herself in the process. Raelle being Raelle, even though she’s still mad and heartbroken by what Scylla did, will use her immense power to save Scylla in return (most fixers wouldn’t be able to do this but because Raelle is so strong and because Scylla is a necro, re: life and death/circle of life with their duality, she’ll be able to bring her back from the brink of death). In the process, Raelle links with Scylla and sees everything. She knows Scylla’s love for her is real and she sees the motivations behind what she did. Raelle still won’t forgive her for what she did; probably not by the finale (at least not completely) but she’ll know the love is real.

So Scylla will go with the Unit and Anacostia and Adil, all having found that neutral common ground, to the Cession, starting a revolution (or WW2) in the process. Raelle will try to stay away from Scylla for as long as possible even though they’ll fight on the same side and work together. But it’s going to be impossible for them to stay apart physically. Their connection is too strong. Too chemical. I can see a sort of an angst love/hate thing going on for a while where Raelle falls together with Scylla and kind of hates herself for it but can’t deny she loves her. And then, we’ll get letters like the ones Willa sent to Raelle except they’re love letters back and forth with Scylla while they are apart fighting on the front lines. It will take the physical separation of them with the risk of losing each other again to really bring Raelle to terms that Scylla is it for her. She’s going to realize that she never wants to risk losing Scylla again. Also, Edwin Collar is going to play a huge role in this because Scylla is going to see that civilians are not evil. Without a civilian, her soulmate wouldn’t exist.

Please excuse this mind dump rambling of a head canon. I have a lot of feelings from last night. Just... otp: no matter what happens.

Hi! I asked about the Festerverse drabbles not long ago and now that I'm finished reading I wanted to give u a feedback (sorry if its gonna be long). I didn't want to read the story at 1st cause I'm way too into my hiccstrid hole and the Festerverse seemed way too angsty and not so otp centered to be my cup of tea but boy was I WRONG. I loved every single minute of it (I think I might have liked Open Flames even more and that says a lot) so thank u for bringing this universe to life. (1)

He does love his son, he just struggles withhow, his life has led him to be such a fixer and he tends to put things in theright places and then be confused when they don’t immediately thank him andstart functioning like he imagined they would in his head.

Eret, my sunshine boy, he did really grow up, didn’the? I’m about due for a re-read, Ithink, and just imagining the hopeful little turd he was at sixteen makes my heartclench. I know I wrote it, but I feellike he grew up before my eyes too, and I was SOOOO happy to be able to get tothat moment where he really accepted Hiccup as family and they got to bond andHUG and I’m so happy that you appreciated it too.
