Some thoughts on Steven's new show, and the hate that's been directed at him lately

spoiler alert: the tl;dr is that people's assumptions about the new food show being expensive meals aren't in the trailer and I'm happily subscribed to Watcher TV now!

One of the most awful things about this announcement has been seeing people attacking Steven specifically, and making a lot of assumptions about him. I (probably unwisely) spent a couple hours in the yt comment section and found things like this:

And then I saw this tumblr comment that do a wtf face irl:

Keith's new eating show is at Michelin star restaurants... to call that relatable and Steven not? Honey, that's either racism or some implicit bias you need to examine (I watch some TG content, it's fine to like Keith, but damn this take isn't it y'all)

But my main point is: No one said Steven and Andrew are going to be having expensive meals on the new show.

(yeah, remember Andrew is on the show too? but all hate is directed at Steven? isn't that interesting...)

That was Buzzfeed. This is Watcher. They aren't going to repeat themselves. Also, Worth It was about showing food across ALL price points, especially in later seasons once they had a more stable platform at BF. It was about giving chefs across cultures (especially Asian communities) a voice.

I re-watched the teaser for Travel Season, and I also signed up for Watcher TV (it was about $3.50/month with the annual discount promo) and I watched the full trailer for Travel Season. Guess what wasn't mentioned? Food at expensive price points.

Travel Season is going to be six episodes per season, all in one location, focusing on food and experiences that place has to offer. This is more economical from a production standpoint, because the team can travel to a location and shoot episodes in a batch. Similar to how they can get four episodes of TMS filmed in one night. Sounds like they are approaching Travel Season in a smart and efficient way.

Sure, maybe they'll try some higher priced dishes at some point, but Travel Season is about culture and food - not about clickbait titles for Buzzfeed where they need to have $1,000 ice cream. If you've seen the food content Steven's made at Watcher (Homemade, Grocery Run, Eat Like Me) you know he cares about highlighting the connections between people and food, to share cultures and ideas with the viewers.

I am supporting Watcher's new endeavor, and hope they can make it work for more of their audience over time. Some people choose to pay $4.99/month for a Twitch sub to support one creator - which is their right. I am spending $5.99/month (but actually much cheaper for this first year) to support an entire company. If this works, Watcher could bring on other creators, as they've wanted to all along, and hopefully usher in an era of entertainment from a diverse group of independent creators.

Yes, Steven Lim took on the role of CEO of Watcher Entertainment recently, but the other founders still have an active role in the company. Like it or not, they all had a vote in making the switch to a streaming service. Singling out Steven in comments like those above isn't a good look for anyone.

I am actually cautiously optimistic about this.

They're an ideal pair for GMMTV to get. Especially if GMMTV continues optioning Japanese IP. These two are beautifully suited to A LOT of yaoi. Just imagine them in a Thai version of Takumi-kun? !

Why did the move happened?

From BounPrem's perspective:

I think they've been pretty underserved by their current home and that home is pushing them towards pulps (I refuse to talk about Even Sun and I found Between Us pretty darn disappointing too.) If they want higher quality narratives and content, GMMTV is a better home for them.

Also it will handle their brand better for sponsorship and longevity. I was shocked not to see them on more stuff in Bangkok. Most sponsor gigs and major promos and billboards and such were GMMTV pairs and... ZeeNunew

Right now there are good indication for pairs who WANT to stick together (even while aging up) that GMMTV can handle it - because of what they've done with OffGun and TayNew recently.

It's clear that GMMTV will throw a good pair at decent content (or at least popular stuff) pretty regularly. With GMMTV, BounPrem stand an even better chance at landing a prestige piece, since they have an established fan base.

From the pair's perspective, this is a good career move.

Now, from GMMTV's perspective, let's talk...

Does it mean anything that they moved together?

Yes, it most likely means GMMTV signed them as a BL pair. Some of GMMTV's other hot properties like EarttMix, OffGun, and TayNew clearly want to do (and have done) more than just BL for GMMTV. Even "second levels" like JimmySea are being split for het dramas. It means they lose their BL talent for a good potion of filming season, while they film some other property.

If GMMTV can sign a high value pair that's happy to stay doing BL regularly, that will work very well for them.

ALSO they've add a hot property pair into their stable that's on the EarthMix (highly commercial) level AND willing to do high heat. I think this is key. GMMTV has shown they want to move into sexier stuff (NC-GMMTV?) with things like Moonlight Chicken and Only Friends. VERY few of their existing pairs are willing to go there, and can do it as well as, BounPrem. These 2 do lust and thirst in a way that most GMMTV pairs can't (they are just too brotherly with each other).

I think this is a sign GMMTV want's to enter the after dark market, and move international markets too. (The higher heat stuff tends to be particularly popular outside of Thailand.)

Also, I think it's pretty clear some of GMMTV's hoped for heavy hitters last year (like PerthChimon) aren't working out for them, so it makes sense to onboard a solid bankable pair whole cloth at this juncture.

I said a while ago I thought GMMTV would make a play for ZeeNunew. I didn't have BounPrem on the list as a backup option, but these pairs are kinda similar, and fill the same niche.

Anyway, smart move all 'round, IMHO.

What might this mean for new series with them as a pair and the potential to break up their pairing?

I think the pairing is now less likely to break up than ever.

I think they've possibly been tempted to sign BY a prestige new series carrot. We could get something historical with them in it. Or, like I said, something Japanese IP. Probably higher heat than GMMTV has given us in a full BL.

Eyes Target the Finder thoughtfully. (It was VERY popular when I was over there.)

Are there any GMMTV talents that you'd love to see Boun or Prem paired with?

Like I said, I think GMMTV's objective in signing them would actually be the opposite - NOT to split the pair.

But if you just want me to speculate for fun (and piss stadn off), I'm always happy to do so.

First is great with anyone, so First with either... or both. First is like the MSG of GMMTV, always improves the taste of any dish.

It might be fun to see Jimmy paired with Prem. But in all honestly I really want a Jimmy + Khaotung thing to happen.

I think Mix has some BDE too, so I think he should play the seme for a change, why not him and Prem?

As for Boun, I think he's a little more dependent on the pairing. It's hard for me to imagine him with someone else. Lemme think. Someone with a very soft screen presence, maybe? How about Gun?

I was wondering if the witch and the witchfinder are a canon couple in the nice and accurate prophecies? Or are they just a very popular fanon ship? Or is it like good omens, where people saw the romantic subtext in the book and where it was made explicitly canon in the show?

I just think all options would be really interesting, given that Crowley and Aziraphale are both middle-aged queer people and the book came out thirty years ago. So they either would have had some representation back then, or they recognised themselves in the story and even though it wasn't canon, maybe those ideas would later explicitly be confirmed by Agnes Nutter nonetheless? Since all these options have really interesting implications for the way they both interacted with the source material, I'm really curious what your thoughts on the matter are.

The Nice and Accurate Prophecy: Agnes Nutter's book series (turned play, turned film, turned tv series); the fandom in my fic Big Name Feelings

the idea of using Agnes Nutter's "Nice and Accurate" book for the in-fic fandom was taken from @tawnyontumblr's fic New Messages (i just thought that would be a fun fanon consistency to follow), but all the details about the story and characters are me.

N&A takes inspiration from Good Omens (as a story, and as a fandom) but isn't intended to be a direct copy of it. the original paperback series is a few books long, and each adaptation of the books are considered good, accurate, canonical content. the tv show (a HBO series) is the most recent, highest quality, and most popular. The Witcher style, high fantasy quality.

agnes is loudly supportive of the lgbt community just like neil/david/michael are. but i imagine that for the series to be so "marketable" over the last 30 years, there isn't an explicit queer relationship between the witch & finder. there are canon queer side characters but the witch & finder are a little more nuanced.

the witch and the witchfinder aid each other through time, working together to defeat the evils in the story (like Aziraphale and Crowley from GO). there's tension between them, but boundless love, and plenty of flirtation, despite the running "we shouldn't, we're meant to be enemies" theme. they would canonically get together at some point in the story, probably towards the end after they've spent some time dancing around each other.

the thing that makes this vague is: the witch reincarnates through the story, almost doctor who style. they're a trans icon, much like how the GO fandom looks at Crowley and all his gender ambiguity.

when they finally tryst with the witchfinder, they're female. it's by pure happenstance that they're female presenting at that stage of the story, but still widely critiqued over the years. the thing that canonises the mlm relationship is that the witch is said to carry their consciousness through each reincarnation— they're not a new person like The Doctor is when he regenerates.

the start of the book series spends more time on "Crowley and Aziraphale's favourite male reincarnation", while the movie and tv show only briefly montages through some of the witch's faces. the mlm side of the fandom most definitely lost their minds over the brief few minutes of screentime that they got of the male witch, and has absolutely gifsetted it to death.

i've done it like this because so much of (every) fandom has always been seeking out representation and filling gaps where the original content lacks. there's something to be said about the solidarity of queer fans creating more queer content for themselves. except, in the case of N&A, they're getting to work from a source material that is genuinely queer supportive, unlike fandoms like SPN and BBC Sherlock that are fighting against the tide of queerbaiting and buried gays.

it also gives aziraphale and crowley a chance to band together in the next chapter when they talk to a dickhead at the party:

i haven't exactly decided what happens with the witchfinder, like if the story takes place over hundreds of years and he keeps reincarnating as the same lookin dude (like how jack whitehall plays both Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery and Newton Pulsifer) or if it's set over one lifetime and the witch just gets killed and regenerates a lot. i do like the idea of there being some "through the ages" shenanigans, and a canonical "modern day" setting like GO has.

but i gotta be careful bc i genuinely can't stop thinking about this fake story that's barely mentioned in my fan fic or i'll end up writing the damn thing myself

Summary; Y/n finds out she's pregnant with Joe's baby not too far into their relationship. While waiting for him to arrive home, she has a mental breakdown.

Y/n started dating Joe three months ago. Three months. It's not a casual relationship; her birthday is coming up, and Joe has been planning something for her. He hasn't said what, to avoid giving away the surprise. But he described it in one word. Big.

After Joe's previously... devastating relationship, Y/n has been trying to make things easy for him. She wants to help, of course. Help as much as he's willing to let her. As much as she's willing to go for it not to come across as pity.

Nothing has been rocky so far, which is obviously a good sign for a blossoming couple. Besides the initial drama about their age gap, which doesn't even bother either of them themselves. But as Joe said to the press in response, anything and everything could cause hysteria. He's wasn't wrong. There's worse age gaps.

Nothing could get worse. They've finally gotten over the scandals and the drama. Now they can just relax. Or at least, Y/n can relax while she sits snuggled up under a blanket, perhaps with some hot chocolate while watching a film.

That's just how Joe invisions Y/n's time alone while he's away at work.

Y/n stares at the wall, breathing irregular and sharp. Every so often, she glances back to the pregnancy test in between her fingertips, as if it will change the next time her eyes re-trace the lines.

Fuck.

Slipping the test into her pocket, Y/n finally decides to leave the bathroom after an unknown amount of time has passed in the bathroom. She sits on the sofa, not knowing what to do with herself. The TV is on, but the sound is completely drowned out by her thoughts.

She'll have turned 24 by the time she'll have the baby. That just feels too young. She's still got a life to make for herself, not a life to make in general. Does she even want to keep it? Her gut says no. Her brain says no. But what about her heart? Her heart doesn't know. Her heart makes her think about Joe.

Poor Joe. He's been through a lot of stress in his previous relationship. Y/n doesn't want to be the cause of it, too. She's supposed to be the solution, right? She'd just be making more problems for him by having this to deal with, too. It's just going to add to the weight of the burdens he'll have to carry. She already feels guilty, and nothing has happened yet.

Options of what to do run through Y/n's mind. None seem like perfect options. She could just not tell him and secretly get an abortion. It sounds dumb when she thinks it through. Keeping a secret just sounds worse. Tell him and see what he has to say. That sounds horrible, too. What would he say? What would he do? Would Joe break up with her because he wouldn't be able to handle the stress? Would he get angry, sad, excited? She just doesn't know. None of her options are good options.

Just as her anxiety peaks, she hears the front door of the apartment unlock. Joe is home. She tries to get herself together as quickly as possible, but her hands won't stop shaking.

"Hey, baby." Joe's voice calls through the apartment, sounding rather tired. The strain on his voice just makes Y/n more hesitant to tell him what she's thinking. That's when she realises she's taken way too long to think of a response. "Baby? You okay?"

Y/n's head snaps over to look at Joe in the doorframe. The look on his face says it all... It's been a long day. He takes off his coat and tossed it onto an armchair.

"I'm fine. C'mere." She murmurs, reaching out her arms to him. He smiles softly at her and walks over to sit in the empty spot. Their arms simultaneously wrap around eachother in an embrace, Y/n's face nuzzling into the crook of his neck, Joe's nestling into her hair.

It's so calm that Y/n is close to deciding to not tell Joe any of it. He seems calm, she feels calm. So that should be enough, right? But she can't just keep a massive problem like that a secret. Not just to appease him. She's got to say it. But can she get the words out?

"...Joe?" Y/n murmurs, muffled by the skin of Joe's neck. He turns his head as much as he can to look at her face from a better angle.

"Yes?" He questions. He sits back so he can look at her face. He hears that tone of voice and knows there's something bothering her. He gives her a gentle look to reassure her, whatever it may be.

"I, uhm... Well, there's this... I don't know how to tell you, but..." She trails off each time she tries to tell him. Then, she realises that she doesn't have to get the words out. She looks him in the eyes, regretting it afterwards, and slowly pulls the pregnancy test out of her pocket with her trembling hand. She panics and tosses it into Joe's lap.

Joe looks from her to what's been thrown onto him. He turns it over to see the outcome of the test, and his face falls into something unreadable. He looks at Y/n, then back at the test, then back to her again. "Baby..."

"Yeah, there is one." She replies, confused by what sounds like him speaking as a caveman would.

"No, I meant you baby."

"Ohhhh. That makes more sense."

They laugh softly, softly so that the laugh makes them feel better, but not enough to pierce through the worries and tension.

They make eye contact again, both of them a sombre expression sinking into their features. The look they give each other is enough. Words are unnecessary to say what their eyes say. They don't know what to do.

ok guys. let's have a real talk. let's ALL have a real talk and i don't mean just me and my anons . i hope this reaches all of our community even if you think i fucking suck.

fucking october didn't ruin us but i am so worried that this dumb tension just might. this is getting so ridiculous and out of hand -i barely understand what's going on myself. so im gonna need everyone to work together and do a collective reflection exercise.

i am gonna write out a series of points that i need u guys to think about before proceeding in this community:

- active blogs. you're burnt out. you're burnt out and you're so tired of trying to keep this community running that you're denying yourself a moment to feel your own frustrations as your own individual person. i get that . i get being under so much pressure that you can't catch yourself some slack, least you spiral out of control <- this is, however, really damn unhealthy 😭 it's ok to let yourself feel some disappointment!! some anger!! that's fine. it's up to you, however, what you do with it. this brings us to our next point.

- we NEED to acknowledge this if we wanna get better. ifl it's taboo and we're pushing the narrative so hard we're not giving ourselves enough space to breathe. it. is. okay. to. feel. disappointed. over. the. lack. of. dteam. content. i am the first person to shut down any self entilted prick who thinks they can expect something out of them. because they DON'T owe us anything. but truth is we are humans and, accordingly so, feel in consequence of our own expectations. i wanna break this part down in a few points:

it is OKAY to acknowledge that we are disappointed. denying one self's feelings never ended up ok for anyone. it is okay to acknowledge that we are not getting the content we were hoping for.

it is NOT okay to blame the dteam for it. this is where it gets tricky. the dteam are in charge of what type of content they put out. it will never be in our hands. at that point, if you don't like what they're doing. leave. i'm sorry. it's harsh. i'm not trying to be mean about it. i'd understand if you left! it's ok!

- before you leave, though, i want to ask you a question. why do dislike what they're doing so much? seriously, ask yourself that question. is the content that bad, in your eyes? if the answer is yes, i can't help you there. you've grown out of their content. there's no way around it.

- but is it actually bad, or is it just Not What You Expected? In which case, let's talk. Let's put things bluntly:

the dteam have waited years to be together. correct

upon living together, we have discovered that they are not very good at providing content because they put their friendship above content. i'm not sure if anyone had that in their bingo cards - but it's what happened. autumn was really rough on them & they've learnt to exist together off camera. me personally, i think it's sweet.

dteam and traveling: a fall out? :o . no. jesus christ 😭 the fact that this is the new narrative nauseates me. i don't think anyone in their right mind thinks that dteam are less close than they were when they were living apart.

Bringing back our initial point, the failure to meet our expectations can be mentally challenging. it will inevitably make us second guess a lot of associated ideas that we thought were true . if one of our expectations fails to be met, that's a fail in our mental plan. if we were wrong about this, who's to say we are right about anything else?

i'm not sure if there's some sort of denial of feelings here or if people are trying really hard not to think about this possibility because it makes them scared. i am inviting you to take a moment to really think about it and feel the initial dread of the question. it will pass fairly quickly.

the truth is that the dteam is FINE. they're fine, they share a house, they film videos together, and they go on these long ass hiatus when they're together because they would much rather spend uncesored time off-line.

my favorite point: for how parasocial we are, we don't give them nearly enough credit. the dteam are adult men. we have to put faith in their decisions. only they know what they're doing. they know what's best for them. we certainly don't.

- i wanna rescue this last point. their decisions are THEIRS. if we don't put trust in what they're doing, we're already failing the game. that means who they hang out with too. i get not liking someone ok? i get it. i don't like a lot of people either. no one is pointing a gun to any of their heads. if you think that any of them is doing something that you don't see fit you have problems and you need to grow up. it is not our place to dictate their lives and it will never be. that goes for the white-knighting too.

⚠️(this is a completely hypothetical scenario)⚠️

the truth is if tomorrow george decides to go back to the uk, for whatever reason. we would all have to fucking shut it. fan disappointment? yes. acting like george is an awful person for betraying his best friends? you're out of your fucking mind.

dream george and sapnap are grown up people with a strong friendship and communication skills. if you think that george would take the unilateral decision and not tell anyone until the day before you need to seek help. whatever decision the dteam take about their lives it's THEIRS and you need to put some fawking faith in what they're doing. they know what's up.

that goes for the fucking karl problem too okay? i don't like it either. whatever. it's not my place though?? dream isn't a baby who's been abandoned he's a grown ass man who knows what he's doing and if he still considers (if they ALL do) karl his friend that's his decision. if he thinks that karl's friendship management is fine that's his decision. we are not dream's friends nor his fucking therapist.

- the thing about dooming and content. the multishippers: is the dteam all there really is? i firmly believe that we all kove the dteam outside of each other. (mostly tackled in this post)

- dnf and the fandom. jesus christ i can't believe i have to make a point about this. i think it's important to remember that at the end of the day. it's just Not That Serious. it was never meant to be that serious. bringing back the "they're their own people" point, what the Fuck do some people think they're doing 🧍‍♂️

dnf know what they're doing they know the nature of their relationship better than we ever will. if they're just friends it's because they chose to if they . in the biggest plot of the century . come out of this with a s/o it doesn't mean they're cheating on each other, that dream/george was leading anyone on or that they're hurting each other???? are you CRAZY 😭 if they're dating they're dating if they're not they're fucking not but they're. not gonna be sad about it??? they're adult people in an adult relationship they know what tf they're doing. they hold each other's hearts impossibility close to themselves. there's nothing they would ever do that could hurt each other.

to wrap things up: after this reddit worthy post (congrats if you've made it to the end) i have something very important to ask of you guys.

i know it might be unfair but can we all compromise on detoxxing. completely. for like, a week. not posting neg at ALL. we can't enable doomers we can't enable bait anons. neg is only good for one thing: make anxious people paranoid as fuck.

so can we. for like a week. just not post anything /neg at all. can we block the worst of it. the unnecessary dooming. and not acknowledge at ALL. i get it's a huge mental toll on the active blogs - reading so much negativity SUCKS but i do believe that it's a better option than responding and enabling more people to send similar asks.

me personally, i am already saying it here: any dooming will get blocked in my askbox. i won't hate you for it. but this IS a warning that you need to get your shit together if you ever wanna have a chance at speaking in my askbox ever again.

um congrats if you read everything?😭 PLEAAAASE let's all make this place a better place again i know we can do it

So I'm writing this because of a convo with my bestie who said:

"Ferg, have you considered writing a blog addressing the wrong headed assumption that the members were "forced" to create the Festa content that we got today? How the people pushing that agenda are not looking at what was happening in their lives at the time said content was filmed. They always want us to have pictures and music at Festa. They WANT to create that content. If they were "forced" it wasn't by the company, it was by the calendar and the government. With no (military) exemption, they understood that the only time to come up with OT7 music or pictures was before mid December (2022). And drilling down, the only time was in October. RIGHT when they hit the final acceptance that they would all start enlisting and the foreseeable future was actually not foreseeable at all. Their hearts were extra heavy that within a few weeks they would say goodbye to Jin. Yoongi was dealing with severe writers block and, I think, feeling guilty that he was going to miss his deadline for the first time EVER. RM was working toward the release of Indigo. Kookie was looking at heading to Qatar. Yada yada. So with all that....they had to try and look light hearted. They didn't. The anxious vibes come right off the screen. We all feel it but many are not interpreting it right. You know, the ones who already are quick to blame everything on the company."

Or the ones who only view everything through a shipper or solo lens and say the guys hate each other.

The members, who filmed this video months ago, filmed this with pure sincerity and love for us knowing they would not all be available to do anything for us for their 10th Anniversary Festa in June 2023. How must that have felt to them? To know that their milestone 10th Anniversary would not play out like they had envisioned way back in 2020? They thought they'd start enlisting by the end of 2020 and be finished with MS by now, so they'd be together in 2023. They had to try to come up with something spectacular for us and for themselves so that 3 years after that hot mess, we could celebrate with them. They deserve to celebrate themselves as well, they worked so hard over the past ten years.

Its the end of 2022. They looked a little tired. We know 2022 had some heartbreaking moments for them. By this time they were juggling their own projects AND the Busan concert preparation.

Hobi was ever-present sunshine, yet maybe he had a lot on his mind? Was he already thinking about his next projects and starting to contemplate an earlier than planned enlistment? We know Yoongi was trying to put finishing touches on D-Day. We know Jimin was working on at least one collab as well as his own MV concepts and promotion activities for Face and working out details for his fashion ambassadorships. Tae was busy exploring new things with fashion brands and tv shows. RM was finalizing his Indigo promotions. Jin was about to announce his enlistment plans. JK was prepping for Qatar. And here they were thinking ahead to June 2023.

I think they filmed this Festa video within days of the Busan concert. Either before or after. Remember we had a VHopeKookMin live right after the concert. I would also venture to say they also filmed this the same day as the Festa photoshoot (Love Myself campaign promo released end of November 2022):

Yet they still thoughtfully planned and executed things to be released for Festa. Concepts were conceptualized and the company took it from there and we see they've done a great job procuring deep-pocketed sponsors.

I don't understand the whole "they need to go start their own label" mindset either. I've already said it several times... they already did that, it's called BigHit Music. If BTS don't re-sign a contract its because they are retiring from releasing music. What IS plausible is a member or two starting an independent label for other up-and-coming artists so they can write and/or produce for them... all still under the HYBE umbrella.

During this solo era, I want to say things like "I think we can all agree ... [insert almost anything]" but I can't say that these days because, in my opinion, the fandom (on Twitter and other soc med platforms) has fractured into so many different factions who seem to spend a lot of time pitting themselves against other parts of the fandom for everything and anything they can find to nitpick, criticize, compare and compete with, to be angry about, that no one agrees on anything. This member is better than that member or ... and this one galls me... the company is forcing them to do this or that OR [insert member's name] sabatoged [insert other member's name].

Twitter Army yelling at Weverse Army "YOU'RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT!" Who designated Twitter Army as the dictator of all things BTS?

People berating others for not streaming the music, or trying to humiliate followers into streaming 'CORRECTLY'. The conspiracy theorists–don't get me started on that. The dissatisfaction with how the solo projects have rolled out. The constant comparison and competition of which member has the most streams in a certain time frame, who has the most songs on the chart for the longest, fastest, more countries, more collabs, more awards...whatever... It's all "my way or the highway/[member name] is the best" and it is really disappointing and tiresome to see the enormous waste of energy.

And if you are still reading, I am totally on board with what another blogger said the other day about how the entire Kpop fandom has this Kpop culture mindset deeply rooted in their way of thinking. It colors their view of EVERYTHING: that artists are treated badly by their record labels/entertainment companies to the point of being physically abused, artists are not paid well, artists are forced to do things and play roles... adhere to strict rules, etc.. because that's how the oldest companies started and some are still operating today (looking at you SM Entertainment).

That "business model" may have been "the way" in the beginning of the kpop industry because no one stood up and called them out on it. So people have come to think EVERY entertainment company operates that way when we've been shown and told over and over by many HYBE employees that its a great place to work. MANY people OUTSIDE the company, staff and other people in the music industry including other artists are blown away at the innovation and forward thinking of the company and we've even heard the members themselves say that they love their company.

Of course no company is perfect, there will be mistakes made, bad decisions, wrong projections, etc. but out of all the entertainment companies, BigHit, Bang PD and BTS have strived to change the system from the start and our own "fans" are being brainless shitheads and talking trash.

Also, HYBE can't come over here to the United States and start auditioning young people for new groups if they are operating like SM Entertainment. That shit ain't gonna fly over here. You'll have a lawsuit in a blink of an eye as soon as someone gets a whiff of sexual harassment or physical abuse of a minor. A carefully built and protected reputation would be ruined, not just Hybe's but BTS's and every other artist under Hybe's labels as well.

Yes, some things we've seen make us scratch our heads... the tight back to back release of Jimin and Yoongi's work had us all wondering what happened. Yes, Jimin's very abbreviated promotion period for Face was frustrating and disappointing. But no one knows what went on behind the scenes. If neither Jimin or Yoongi comes out and tells us what happened then I will just move forward like they are. If either of them made a mistake, we might not ever know of it, but they will correct it going forward. If the company was the one who miscalculated, they too will correct that in the future. We can call it out when we see it happening but there is no reason to dwell on it. I don't see anything positive or productive about the continued pointing fingers to blame, holding grudges and continuing to speak negatively when it's plain the members of BTS love us, work hard to show us that and deserve only to see our love reflecting back at them.

Ok so I've ranted long enough.

so what's the deal with Dan? I watched some of this videos this week.

I get that he has dealt with internalized homophobia and had a hard time coming to terms with his sexuality

But where does Phil fit into all of this? Dan talked about in details about various hook ups over the years. Are they in a open relationship? They have always lived together from what I can see from various edits and have recently bought a house together.

Also the way Dan behaved on the tour this year gave off a very single vibes and it rubbed me in a very wrong way as to how against he was phil coming and seeing him on tour.

Even Phil also talks about experiences with other men over the years but weren't they speculated to have been together since 2010s?????

So, my thought is this:

I think the deal with Dan is that he had a lot of his private life/sexuality/etc exposed and made a heavy focus of a large internet fandom during some very personally critical years of his development. And I think he has hella issues with the idea of feeling exposed to an audience.

He also had a lot of years where he couldn't make gay jokes about himself and I think he feels like he's catching up on them now?

But imo I don't think it means anything reflected in reality. The jokes abot hook ups and his tour humor etc are in line with other types of humor he used that didn't reflect reality to me. Like there are so many times when they'd film a video and then later in a livestream we'd see how much of it was set up? Where one of them acted surprised at something when obviously they knew the video concept? And we know sometimes the Dan vs Phil scores were a bit rigged/edited to make things more suspenseful.

I think Dan and Phil are both pretty comfortable with the idea that For the Audience content they make is a version of themselves that is put forward to be funny before anything else and also to have a certain distance from their real lives. They've lived together for fourteen years, they were outed in a very concrete form via video in 2011, they're referenced as a unit by everyone in their lives, and they're willing to do a wink and nod to that at this point. But even the titles of their videos say 'friend' and they'll only outwardly reference themselves as best friends.

That circles back to my first point where I think they just feel like it's best/safest to protect their relationship from direct confirmation and therefore the assumption of the audience's right to their private life. They're fine with shipping, with being shipped, but it's the Dan and Phil in the videos we can claim as ours, not what happens when the cameras are off.

So basically: I think the jokes about hookups etc are just Dan considering who he is on camera or on social media is still a bit of a character. And that character isn't in a long term committed relationship so he's free to make Grindr jokes all he wants, even if there's no reality behind it.

Steph's Crew - Book 3 Summary

I was meant to post this last year to sort of close the Steph-related content and focus more on other projects. Actually, I was meant to post a lot of things last year...

I've been so busy, y'all. Sorry for the delays.

I just want to make sure I have time to do everything as best as I possibly can, so you can enjoy it. I think it was less pressure posting the Steph's Crew dialogues and snippets because they were old pieces of work, and since the time I first wrote them, I've neatened it up and made it considerably better than it was... I know that the stuff I've shared isn't the final product, so I don't feel the urge to make it perfect. At least not to the extent that I do with all these other projects lol.

Hopefully this can help make up for lost time. I'll get to the other posts mentioned on that list as soon as possible, but until then... here's a summary of the third and final instalment of Steph's Crew!

Keep in mind that I'm still working on this one. It isn't finished yet, but I wanted to give you guys a rough idea of how it goes. And prepare for this, because it's pretty unhinged lol. I collaborated with my sister on some of the wackier ideas...

Book 3 is titled "Story of a Broken Thing." It picks up where Book 2 ends off, more or less (or at least, it fills us in on what went down since the end of Book 2). If you can't remember how UVC ended, then here's a link to that summary:

But to put it briefly, the crew have successfully solved the mystery, Brelise have split up again, Bret's gone on tour with his band, Dalice are together, Bephanie is over, and Stephanie got arrested... but then escaped from holding. Nobody knows where she could have gone.

Which leads us to Book 3. It is set a couple of years later (I think about 5 years after Book 2 ended), and a lot of stuff has happened in all that time...

Dylan and Alice have broken up. Wasn't meant to be, I guess. But don't worry - they're still friends, and there's no bad blood between them or anything.

Victor and Jen have unfortunately split up as well, leading to Jen moving back to Texas. Alice decides to go with her. She's doing alright - currently taking some classes at a local college, and helping out at her old dance studio in her spare time. She's also still making YouTube videos.

Bret's band is still doing well. They're not touring anymore at the moment, but they are super busy recording a new album, and filming music videos. Plus, they have been asked to perform at the Jingle Bell Ball towards the end of the year, which is very exciting. Even though he has moved back to the UK, because of the nature of Bret's job, he can't just stay in London with his aunt anymore like how he used to... but he still comes to visit her as often as possible. And he and Elise are still close friends, so that's cool. He's been seeing other people over the past couple of years, though.

Elise and Charlie are together. She decided to give him a chance. They're really happy together and they seem to have a pretty healthy, solid relationship for the most part (they've been together for two years straight by the time Book 3 has started). Charlie still harbours some degree of jealousy/wariness towards Bret, though, since she's still really good friends with him. He's never once brought it up to her, though. But it becomes a big deal in this part of the story... more on that later.

Ben isn't really in this part of the story... at least not until towards the end, when Stephanie randomly decides to call him for some reason. But he's doing fine. Moved back to his cooking job from Book 1 lol. It was good money, and now he doesn't have another person to share it with! Wait, that sad-

And by now, Dylan, Connor (who has finally moved on from Daisy! Thank God), Elise and Charlie have all finished their university courses. Yay!

In fact, this is what kickstarts the plot. Dylan's family (we get to see them again in this one! Specifically his mother, her new husband and his younger brother Sam. I feel like we didn't get enough of them last time) is very proud of him for finishing such a long, tough course (3 years, + 1 foundation year + 1 year of masters), and they decide to reward him with an epic summer trip to Australia. And it is during this holiday that he sees Steph again (she's not in Australia btw - he sees her when he goes with a family friend to the Samoan islands).

She fills him in on how she got there. I haven't neatly worked this part out... but basically, Reggie helped her leave the country (idk whether to make him a villain or some kind of loose cannon/antihero type of guy. Like, he's awful most of the time, but he's also one of Stephanie's oldest friends, and he can be genuinely nice when he wants to be. Especially to her. He needs to be in trouble tho lol. I think the thing about him is that he gets away with his awful behaviour easily, whereas Stephanie is kind of forced to be held accountable, even if she actively runs away from the consequences of her actions sometimes...)

After that, she was stuck on her own again for a while and needed a job. So she applied for a job at a local Natia hotel (Natia is a famous line of hotels... kind of like Hilton, to give a known real-life example). She didn't have enough money for a cab or bus, so she had to walk the whole way there through heavy rain. By the time she got there, she looked terrible lol. But when she arrived, she bumped into a handsome young man who kindly helped her out. He got her a room and some clothes to change into, which helped in making a good first impression and whatnot. She got the job!

Later, she found out that the guy's name was Jordan Natia. The son of the hotel line founder (he also owns the hotel she got a job at). She thanks him for her help, and he invites her for dinner... and the rest is history.

And by history, I mean she ends up marrying him lol. Dylan finds out that she now lives at the resort that he and his family friend are currently staying at. She also has a baby daughter named Mia (short for Miranda. Not suspicious at all). She loves her life so much right now. She's always prided herself on being a strong independent woman who can take care of herself, but she's surprised at how much she's enjoying being a stay-at-home mother and housewife lol. She loves spending time with her baby, and she loves her husband a lot, too. He takes good care of her. However, similar to Ben, he doesn't really know all that much about her (Jordan goes through a similar arc to Ben's in Book 2, where he finds out the truth about Stephanie, and it changes the way he sees her. Minus the cheating lol).

Dylan is shocked at how much Steph has changed since the last time he saw her, but he's happy for her at the same time. He can see that she's genuinely happy and seemingly at peace, which is great.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, Charlie has decided to propose to El. He's taking it VERY seriously - even asked for her family's blessing and everything. They all said yes... even Adam lol (he's grown to like Charles by now). One summer evening, he pops the question (in a truly beautiful and romantic way btw), and Elise says yes in the moment, but she doesn't know if she truly feels ready for marriage yet. Something about the situation feels wrong to her, but she doesn't know what it is. However, instead of communicating her mixed feelings to her now fiance, she decides to distract herself with hangouts with her family and friends, as well as getting into her work and other hobbies, preferring to think about anything other than her problems (man, does THIS sound familiar lol). Charlie starts noticing a change in El's behaviour and it begins to really upset him (especially since Bret is one of the people she starts spending more time with, and we all know how she feels about him), causing more strain in their relationship. It only gets worse when they find out about Stephanie's whereabouts...

Dylan messages the others about his trip everyday through a group chat. One night he reveals that he's reunited with an old friend of theirs and sends a picture of him and Stephanie hanging out. The others are shocked. Elise especially.

The situation started becoming somewhat of a controversy in the news... people started talking about it more online, many blogs and news websites (including The Looking Glass) started covering it. Alice made a video on YouTube talking about it (and it came from the unique angle of her knowing the person from school and being their friend and everything. She didn't mention Steph by name, though). It blew her channel up.

The story of Stephanie's escape was quickly resurfacing back into people's minds after being forgotten for such a long time. And this wasn't good for Steph lol. Especially after finally making a life for herself that she was genuinely truly happy in.

But that's not the end of the story.

Hello, my dear!❤️✨

I’m terribly sorry for taking so long on your ask. I wanted to make sure that my thoughts and feelings were clear for my answer. I feel that there will be a healthy amount of Maria Robotnik content in the third film. What “healthy amount” means exactly is up for your interpretation.

Throughout the years, we're given a sample of Maria and who she is through video games and TV shows. She doesn't necessarily make big appearances, but we've learned plenty of the little girl that grew up on the Space Colony ARK. With various game titles and character interactions, we see that Maria Robotnik plays a significantly large role in people's lives. She might not get a whole lot of screen time in general, but we—as the audience—can feel how beloved and cared for she was with others. We can feel her pure love and support emitted by found family members, ARK scientists, and others that watched her grow up. Even Sonic, who was born fifty years after the ARK raids by G.U.N., valued her immensely (Sonic Channel Story, 2021). We can painfully see the love that is generously given to a 12-year-old girl. This shows that one or two sentences (I.E. Sonic Battle, Gerald's Journal), or even a flashback is just as fruitful in conveying her purpose of existence and her golden heart.

I can completely understand and appreciate where you are coming from. For a character that makes minor appearances here and there, it's incredible seeing how much her legacy is cared for by those that are still living... and how fans view her. It's It's only fitting that we buy into curiosity and explore her character more. We must understand that Maria Robotnik is important. It's crucial to see how much of an influence she makes to core characters in the third film.

In game canon, we can conclude that nearly everything that occurs has an influence with Maria in mind. Project Shadow almost didn't happen if it weren't for Maria being diagnosed with Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (NIDs). If Prof. Gerald Robotnik was not given the opportunity by the United Federations to seek the answers of immortality, then there wouldn't be a strong drive to desperately use government funding to finish making Shadow in order to find a cure to NIDs. Without the compassion and humanity that Maria gives to Shadow, our hedgehog-alien hybrid would most definitely have viewed himself as an artificial weapon. He wouldn't bat an eye on the possibility of being a relatively good person if the idea was not proposed to him. Without Maria, Prof. Gerald Robotnik would never have had the inspiration needed to craft Shadow's soul like Maria's. Without Maria's horrific death, the crippling insanity that Prof. Gerald Robotnik faces would not have been a driving influence to reprogram Shadow's mind to carry out revenge on the planet. This is malicious act that did more harm that good to a literal adolescent if you think about it. And without Maria's entire existence, we might not have the understanding on Dr. Robotnik/Eggman's influence of becoming a mad scientist today.

The third Sonic movie needs establish how beloved Maria was when she alive. The fantastic thing about these movies is that they've left enough wriggle room with subplots (it's heavily implied that Longclaw and her people have engaged with humans and Earth frequently), character interactions (Dr. Robotnik and Agent Stone talking about aspirations of continuing an evil plan that were planned years ago, implying that the United States government knew about aliens and the Chaos Emeralds), and other possibilities (Green Hills, Montana having a Wachowski look after the town for over 50 years; all of the town's memorabilia implying that it's residents were retired government veterans) for us to weave the past into a perfect timeline. Even if Jim Carrey doesn't return to reprise the role of "Dr. Robotnik," we can see that his plans for world domination are honored with Prof. Gerald Robotnik in mind. Agent Stone would acting upon a dead man's wish.

I think that when I say a "healthy amount," I mean that there's enough for us to fill gaps in for places that need them. I hope that this answers your question, my dear.

''I don't know how they do it.''

Hobi's listening party was absolutely stacked with people, a lot of people Maya knew, but also a lot of people that she didn't knew. She had her doubts about going to the event, since she and Jungkook weren't publicly dating, but they agreed to just stay out of each other's way and meet up after the party was done.

She was having a great time. She reunited with some people she hadn't seen in a long time, like Sunmi and Dongmin. Yes, she was sad that she couldn't go up to her boyfriend, but she was there to support Hobi and she wasn't looking forward to having a dating scandal just yet.

Maya had interrupted her conversation with Lee Hi as she finished her drink and wanted a new one. She excused herself and walked up to the bar. She was handed a new glass of champagne and was about to walk back to her previous conversation partner when she stopped herself. Two people on the dance floor caught her attention.

Hyuna and Dawn.

The idol couple seemed to be in their own world, looking into each other's eyes as if one would disappear if the other one looked away. They danced, not caring one bit about what any bystander would think of them.

The Twice member must not have been subtle with her staring as someone took the place beside her and talked to her.

''Excuse me?''

The unknown woman pointed at the dancing couple. ''I don't know how they keep going after all that scrutiny just because they're dating.'' The confusion on Maya's face was evident, since the woman immediately followed her words up with an introduction. ''I'm sorry, I'm Minyoung.''

''I'm Jieun, nice to meet you.'' She introduced herself with a small bow of the head. Minyoung chuckled. ''Yeah, I know, I think the entire country knows.'' She joked, making the female idol even more uncomfortable.

''It's weird that after all these years, people are still so sensitive about idols dating. It's crazy.'' Minyoung continued, but Maya had no idea what to say to the woman. Why would she discuss such matters with a person she's never met before.

''You're an idol, what do you think about it?'' She directed the question at Maya, who wasn't very impressed by the conversation and just wanted to go back to people she did know.

She shrugged her shoulders. ''I don't really care about the personal lives of other idols, to be honest.'' Maya kept it polite, not wanting to come off as rude.

''Fair point,'' Minyoung said, ''but still it must not be easy.''

''I think, especially for the BTS members. I mean, they go further than just Korea, they're worldwide, the impact would be huge and not just on them, on their partner as well.''

Minyoung continued. ''How could you be in a relationship knowing the people that support you are completely against it and throw mean words and threats towards the person you love. A relationship like that just wouldn't work and especially if it's with another idol. Just imagine, it's either breaking up or giving up your career. Who would risk that for another person?''

It made her sad for some reason, listening to Minyoung's mini rant about idol dating. Her and Jungkook had been dating for more than a year and everything was going pretty well. Conflicting schedules were annoying, yes, but they knew that beforehand. So, why did she feel so discouraged all of a sudden? Maybe somewhere deep inside she knew that what Minyoung was saying wasn't entirely false.

Maya looked over at Jungkook who was sitting next to Taehyung and Namjoon as they were being filmed by their staff for some behind the scenes content. He was smiling around them, looking genuinely content about being with his members. As she looked at him, she thought about Minyoung's question. Who would risk their entire career, that they've worked on since they were a kid, for another person? Would she risk the career that she has been building since she was 11 years-old for someone?

''It was nice to talk to you, Minyoung,'' Maya held out her hand for the woman which she took and shook, ''I have to excuse myself, I have early schedules tomorrow.'' She did have schedules the next day, but thet weren't early at all. ''Likewise, Jieun. Have a good night.''

''You too.''

Maya put her glass of champagne down on a random table and made her way towards the exit, not even caring about saying goodbye to anyone, she just wanted to go home and lay in her bed. ''Unnie, can you pick me up?... Yes, from the party… it's not done yet, I'm just very tired… yeah, but he's with his members, I didn't wanna interrupt that… yes, I'll wait there… thanks… see you soon… bye.'' Jeongyeon had always been one of the members she confided in the most, she had this motherly nature about her that made Maya trust her so much.

Maya waited outside in the parking lot for her member and immediately got in once Jeongyeon had arrived, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.

''Are you okay, Ji?'' The older one had sensed straight away that something was off with her fellow member, she could read them all like a book.

She was about to nod and lie about her true state, but realised that she didn't have to fake anything with her members. ''Can you answer something for me and I need you to be as honest as possible.''

Upon seeing her unnie nod, she proceeded. ''If my relationship were to be leaked to the public, do you think it will last?''

The question visibly took Jeongyeon by surprise, a frown forming on her face. ''Where is this coming from? Did something happen?''

''Can you answer first, please?''

Jeongyeon sighed, a deep breath leaving her mouth. ''Jesus, Ji, I mean, there will obviously be a lot of talk about it. People will have their opinions, but I think if you guys really want to make it work, I think it will last, yes.''

Maya simply nodded, taking her words in. ''Okay, thanks.''

''Can I get an explanation, please?'' Jeongyeon asked, still confused as to where her sudden question came from.

''It's nothing, I just had a conversation with someone and I wondered what your opinion was.'' The vague clarification didn't ease Jeongyeon's worries any less, but it was late and she was too tired to ask further about it. ''Alright, let's go home now~''

''Hey, hyung,'' Jungkook tapped Jun on the shoulder, ''have you seen Jieun? Can't find her and she isn't texting me back.'' He whispered, not wanting anyone to eavesdrop.

The eldest shook his head, not having seen her for almost the entire evening. ''No, sorry.''

Jungkook desperately looked around once more, despite having searched the entire place for his girlfriend, but no result whatsoever. ''Shit.''

''Maybe something came up, I wouldn't worry about it.'' Jin tried comforting the maknae, not thinking much of Maya's absence.

''What's up Jungkookie?'' Jimin had walked over to his members upon seeing Jungkook's distraught face. ''I don't know where Jieun is.''

''I saw her leave about 20 minutes ago, I think.'' Jimin calmly said, remembering seeing her leave the room. ''Wait, you didn't know?''

''No! She's not answering her phone, why would she suddenly leave?'' It wasn't that out of the ordinary for Maya not to answer calls or texts, but it felt a bit different to him this time.

Jimin and Jin didn't really know what to say to him, they also felt a bit confused by her lack of response. ''She probably has a good reason, you know her, she wouldn't just leave without a reason.'' Jimin squeezed Jungkook's shoulder, an attempt at calming him down a bit.

The youngest one simply nodded, too caught up in his own mind. ''Yeah, you're right.''

The Future of Dragon Ball

I was going to play Mega Man X5 tonight, but it's acting kind of buggy and I'm not in a mood to try to troubleshoot my copy of Legacy Collection 2, so I'll write about Dragon Ball instead. Specifically, what happens next?

Let me make this clear up front: I don't actually know the answer to this. I'm not an "insider" claiming to have "leaked" information. All I want to do is discuss the possibilities, and the culture of speculation that seems to persist in the fandom.

I tend to call this "modern" era of the Dragon Ball franchise a "renaissance", because very little official material came out between 1998 and 2012, and then after Battle of Gods ushered in this new wave of Dragon Ball movies, TV episodes, web series, and comics. I've been covering this all year in the #2023dbapocryphaliveblog, in case you're new to this blog, and while much of it hasn't been very good, there were a lot of bright spots. Battle of Gods, Broly, and Super Hero were classics, the Tournament of Power basically saved and otherwise lackluster Dragon Ball Super anime, and the Granolah Saga in the DBS manga is a fun read with a great cliffhanger.

However, things have slowed down a lot this year. The Granolah Saga ended and the manga began a long, long adaptation of the Super Hero film. There was some hype about a new Tenkaichi Budokai video game, but there's been no word on when it'll come out what we can expect to see. I get the sense that the fans are champing at the bit for some big announcement, like a new movie or anime series, but it hasn't happened.

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but back in my day you just had to wait and see, and accept the possibility that you may never get what you were hoping for. The vibe I get from DBTwitter is that people think they can somehow manifest a new animation through sheer force of will. News will spread of some Toei panel and fans will cling to the hope that there must be some big Dragon Ball announcement, and it must be nothing less than a teaser trailer for Xenoverse 3, a DBZ remake, and release dates for the next five movies. Then the panel will come and go, and it just ends up being a fluff PR thing where a spokesperson says "Dragon Ball is very fun and Goku is cool." and that's it. And all the fans get upset until the next panel, where they put their clown makeup on all over again.

"No, this can't be happening. Dragon Ball 2uper is real..."

When I was still new to the fandom, I always wondered how Dragon Ball AF could be such a potent fantasy for so long. But now I've lived through the Dragon Ball Super era, and seen fans chasing similar dreams. People have been waiting for Xenoverse 3 for over six years. They've been expecting "Dragon Ball Super II" ever since Dragon Ball Super I ended five years ago. And I'd say it's a pipe dream, except fans held out hope for Tenkaichi 4 since 2010, and it looks like we're actually going to get that one? You never can tell with this franchise. My kneejerk reaction to Dragon Ball Magic is to dismiss it as fake, but I can't be completely sure.

The weird thing is that 2uper, Magic, and XV3 have been hyped up during a boom period for the franchise. Dragon Ball Super had a 131 episode run, followed by two feature films. It's still going, but people want 2uper to animate the Moro Saga. People want a new web anime, but there's already a web anime. Super Dragon Ball Heroes has been running since 2018 and it's still going. Xenoverse 2 is still releasing DLC packs. I recognize that some of this content isn't what everyone wanted, but it's weird how fans are demanding new projects before the old ones have run their course. At least when AF became a legend, there weren't any official works to compete for its attention.

It occurs to me that maybe this is just part of the fan culture, and every so often fans will collectively agree on some imaginary premise and Goncharov their own series. Maybe that's what AF was then, and what Magic is today. They're not hoaxes, but rather some sort of mutually-agreed-upon daydream. I'm not sure I get it, but it is what it is.

Anyway, my position has always been that Dragon Ball has ended before and can end again, so there's no reason to assume that there will be some new anime or movie or video game to look forward to. I watched Super Hero fully believing that this could be the last one, even though the box office numbers suggest that a sequel is probably inevitable. But nothing is guaranteed. Dragon Ball GT started strong in the ratings, only to get canceled about a year later.

And yet, there seems to be some kind of guarantee, because of this guy:

I think there are a lot of fans who believe that Dragon Ball Super has a lot of loose ends to tidy up, and the series can't end until Goku and Vegeta surpass Jiren, Beerus, Whis, and Orange Piccolo. And maybe this is true, but I'm not so sure. But Black Frieza isn't just a loose end. This seems like a pretty big honkin' deal, and it would be pretty weak if they wrapped things up without some kind of reckoning here. Frieza's the main villain of Dragon Ball Super now, and in his most recent appearance he revealed he can defeat Goku and Vegeta with frightening ease. And yet, he spared them. Why?

So that seems like the obvious direction going into 2024. This is why fans are so burned out on the manga this year, because they know a Black Frieza arc is coming, but they have to wait for Toyotaro to retell Super Hero before we can even find out when it's happening.

My guess is that Toei/Shueisha decides to tease this out even longer. We get to chapter 100 of the manga and it starts some bullshit arc about Goten and Trunks playing superhero park rangers on 17's island. Or... that dumb android from the Moro Saga comes back and they jerk around with that guy for 18 chapters. They'll get to Black Frieza eventually, but I suspect that they're holding off until they can set up a Black Frieza movie. Then the manga can just adapt that movie and everything gets paid off around the same time.

Either way, I'm a little skeptical about it just being Goku and Vegeta training to beat Black Frieza. I keep coming back to how he let them live at the end of the Granolah arc. Ostensibly, he just wanted to frighten them, and make it clear that he no longer sees them as a threat. But maybe there's more to it than that. Maybe Frieza needs them alive for some reason. Like he plans to use them to achieve some goal, or he needs their help to stop some even greater menace that we haven't seen yet.

Maybe that's what Frieza was talking about at the end of the Broly movie when he said he wanted "one other". I kind of thought he meant to use Broly as an ally against Goku and Vegeta, but maybe he's planning a campaign against some other guy, and he sees Broly as a potential resource. And maybe that's why he spared Goku and Vegeta on Planet Cereal. If he kills them, he might not be able to find Broly when the time comes. Or maybe he just needs all three Saiyans, so he has to pull his punches.

Or maybe I'm overthinking this, and it just turns out that Black Frieza ends with a manga arc where Goku turns "Ultra Instinct (Defined) (Remastered)" and wins a paint-by-numbers battle. Or Roshi beats Black Frieza, because that sounds like something Toyotaro would do.

So what would happen after Black Frieza? See, that's where I wonder about the future of the franchise, because so much work has gone into mining past arcs. The first DBS movie was about bringing back Broly, Bardock, and Gogeta. The second movie brought back the Red Ribbon Army, the androids, and Cell. Frieza will almost certainly get another turn, and then what? What's left?

I mean, let's break this down by the major antagonists we've had so far.

Pilaf Saga. The Pilaf gang are still living in Bulma's house, apparently, so that comic relief bit from Battle of Gods shows no signs of ending.

Red Ribbon Army. DBS Super Hero brought them back and opened some interesting doors for future Red Ribbon stories. It's hard to imagine the Army making another comeback since Cell Max destroyed their secret base and all their top leaders were killed. But the Red Pharmaceutical Company still exists and someone must have taken over after Magenta's death.

Tien Shinhan. Tien never left, and while I'd be down for a Tien-centric saga, it seems pretty unlikely after all these years. At best, he gets a prominent role in a story featuring some more important player.

King Piccolo/Piccolo Junior. Piccolo never left either, and now he's got his own movie in Super Hero.

Saiyans Saga. Vegeta never left, and DBS: Broly pretty much covered the idea of "here are some new Saiyans we didn't know about before."

Frieza Saga. Resurrection F, Tournament of Power, DBS: Broly, this upcoming Black Frieza thing, I think this has been covered.

Androids/Cell Saga. 17 and 18 never left, and the idea of more androids and a new Cell was already covered in Super Hero.

Majin Buu. It's been 27 years and no one seems to want to do anything with this guy. Maybe 2025 is the year when Akira Toriyama finally does some big Buu story to justify keeping him around this whole time.

Zamasu. I mean, the dude got erased, so it'd be pretty bullshit to bring him back. Then again, it was pretty bullshit of Toriyama to create this idea in the first place, so I can't rule it out. "Whoops, more Zamasu" might be the storyline that would force me to quit the Dragon Ball fandom for good.

Tournament of Power. I mean, they could do another Tournament of Power for funsies, but it probably wouldn't live up to the spectacle or the novelty of the original. More likely, I could see some adventures featuring prominent characters from the event, like Jiren, Hit, the U6 Saiyans, etc.

Moro. I did not enjoy the Moro arc much at all, so it kind of bums me out when people suggest that Toei should do an anime adaptation of it. To me, that would be just as big a waste of time as the DBS manga doing the Super Hero adaptation that's going on right now, but it would be even worse because Moro kind of sucks. In the same vein, doing stories that follow up on the Moro arc would be difficult because you'd have to refer back to the Moro arc, which only appeared in the manga, which not everyone read. So it's this difficult spot where you'd have to animate the Moro arc first, just to do a new arc about Merus and Jaco or whatever. It's probably not worth it.

Other Z Movies and GT: The success of DBS: Broly sort of opens the door for similar reboots of guys like Cooler, Turles, Janemba, Baby, etc. But honestly, this seems pretty far-fetched to me. Broly was a much, much bigger star than any of those other characters, so what worked for Broly isn't necessarily a road map for a guy like Bojack or Omega Shenron.

Looking over all of this, I kind of wonder what's left to do. Maybe something with Majin Buu, or the big shots from the Tournament of Power, and after that, I think they'll have used up all the viable nostalgia. After that, Dragon Ball will probably have to come up with something brand new, which is kind of a dicey proposition, because they've been hit-or-miss with that. Granolah and Tournament of Power were good, Moro and Zamasu were bad, so when I hear they're doing something all-new, I get kind of nervous.

But in the end, I don't know what will happen, which brings us back around to where I started. We'll just have to see what shakes out.

Favorite moment: Every time she uses PK Freeze. But really, I'm very sentimental about the brief period between Twoson and Threed where it's just Ness and Paula traveling together. Paula makes a friend she can be herself with. Ness makes a friend after braving the big scary world all by himself. They're probably a little awkward and uncertain of each other at first, but they quickly come to admire each others' strengths!! Combat feels so fresh and exciting once you finally have a party member! They both have to learn to work together with a fellow PSI user, and it's really sweet.

Idea for a story: I don't really have more Paula stories on the brain rn. Whatever I do next with Intermission AU though, I wanna develop her friendship with Claus some more… They're both book-smart and snarky, he's one of very few people who can keep up with her wit. She only knows the half of what he's been through, but she looks out for him on the downlow. Especially in light of his bad experiences with Porky (Paula helped Ness through his fallout with Porky too, she's kind of in a unique position to provide some levelheaded advice & support). And they've both got unresolved anger with their family members. Their playfully pretentious nerd banter might easily give way to some heartfelt & heavy discussions. I feel like one of these days I could cook up somethin interesting. Intermission Senior Year arc where Paula finally stands up to her megalomaniac mom, while Claus cheers from the sidewalk like "yeah paula, you tell her!! yolo, dude! i got your back!"

Unpopular opinion: A lot of fan content I see & read will either sideline her or just, not flesh her out very much beyond Yeah She Sure Is The Girl. :( Itoi left the EarthBound party members relatively underdeveloped on purpose, hoping players would fill in the blanks to their hearts' content. Paula can be anything or anyone, and can have really interesting dynamics with her other party members! I just think her potential is often underutilized.

Favorite relationship: She's Ness' best friend!! A smart pretty popular girl befriends a little fat boy with average grades n' no connections beyond his hometown! And against all expectations, it turns out they get along brilliantly! He helps her loosen up & let go of her perfectionism, she helps him overcome his insecurities & become a more confident person! Ness really really needed someone to trust as his friendship with Porky crumbled, and Paula was right there the whole time. I think they have lots of silly goofy fun together - they'll dance and do karaoke and take joke photos at national monuments. I have a funny little headcanon that they tried dating in high school, quickly realized they like just being friends much better, and went on as if nothing happened. And another, that they teach each other their PSI techniques. Healing doesn't come naturally to Paula, and offense doesn't come naturally to Ness, but they're patient and perseverant and they figure it out over time.

Favorite headcanon: My girl Paula is academia pilled to comedic degrees. She's obsessed with Virginia Woolf. She feels a spiritual kinship with The Queen's Gambit. She daydreams about being a college professor. When she watches movies she calls them "films," and you'd better believe she's taking notes.

It’s time to shake off winter and welcome in Spring. Green grass is poking through the snow, and soon, the town will be covered with blooming flowers that help disguise the blood in the streets. The change in season tends to put people in a good mood, and the township is ready to take advantage of that by putting everyone to work. For the community! This event will last longer and run until June, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy!

Everyone looks forward to the Lions & Lambs Picnic each year. Drawing in thousands from around town – and quite popular with the college students – this isn’t exactly a cozy little picnic you might be used to, but it has the charm! The Common fills with family and friends who are encouraged to bring potluck style food to share with those around them. Maybe you’ll meet someone new or two over some potato salad. Don't worry about missing the picnic, it's there all Spring, waiting for you, watching.

Every year, the town hires several local bands to perform for everyone on the stage set up in the Common. It’s sort of like a battle of the bands, judged purely by the volume of the audience in response to the music at the end of each set. The winning artist will have their choice of two of their songs featured on the local radio station, and the loser with the weakest audience reaction is… often never heard from again, actually. Weird. Probably just too embarrassed!

One of the main events of the picnic is the Running of the Groundhogs - it’s like one of those turtle races, except they’re groundhogs, and they keep chasing each other’s shadows. Place your best on who will meander their way over the finish line first! This is way better than Groundhog Day, and hey, you might even get some cash out of it! Or a groundhog. They’ve been known to chase peoples’ shadows, too, and occasionally devour them. Typical groundhog behavior.

A local spriggan by the name of Buni Easner has discovered the myth of the Easter Bunny and decided to reverse it. She's breaking into people's homes to steal all their eggs. She’s stashing them in a hidden location, but it’s not just regular eggs that she’s filched. Some happen to be from dangerous critters, and they’ll inevitably hatch. Hopefully that stash isn’t near the middle of town, right?

A group of pixies looking to give back to the community are hosting a Spring Fling, but seem to have misunderstood the assignment. They've built a giant slingshot…

It can be hard for a cult to recruit the best people, so a lot of them have taken to setting up booths during the picnic so they can tell you what they’re all about. You can go to them! Learn about the new and the old shrimp gods, how to pray to the mineral abnormality, and why everyone should wear their shirt inside out every Tuesday. Also maybe get indoctrinated into committing homicide.

If you want to pretend to be classy and refined, you can sign up for some wine tasting. Experience a dozen local wines and their unique taste profiles. Swish them around in your long-stemmed glass and make a thoughtful look on your face as you pull descriptive words from the air, like “musty,” “warty,” and “like the contents of my vacuum were distilled into a liquid”. Watch the tannins, they turned someone into a grape. (He made a fine wine.)

Spring is a time of rebirth, and what better way to celebrate that than with a marathon of those awful Twilight movies? There will be a few back-to-back showing of the films at the Midnight Drive-In, so make sure to stop in! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll rethink your life choices! Buy your tickets at the picnic for a nice discount. They really want to get rid of them.

The town banded together so nicely to clean up all of the goo over the winter, which gave the board of selectmen an idea: what if they could rally everyone to volunteer for other cleanups, too? Sure, some parts of town are kept clean enough, but there is that gigantic mound of garbage in Gatlin Fields. And what about The Old Factory? Whether in small organized groups or as individuals, Resters are doing their part to make the town look nice and clean for the arrival of Spring. But when you leave no stone unturned, you’re going to disrupt what’s underneath.

While the cleanup is a volunteer effort, it’s not without a small bribe. The town is giving out a thank you gift to everyone who pitches in! Send the board of selectmen a ModMail on Discord (traditionally the best way to reach them) and let them know your character is helping out. Disclaimer: All gifts come from The Pile.

Not only are the Good Neighbors keeping the town safe, they’re keeping it clean, too. Most of their volunteers are typical do-gooders who are really trying to spruce up the town and clear out all the junk, but a few are insistent they be the first ones to clean any given area. Some suspect they’ve been pocketing some interesting supernatural finds for themselves.

All of this cleaning action has summoned a demon, Sudso, who is the “demon of the clean”. Not known for being particularly dangerous (and honestly, hardly known at all), Sudso is influencing some stubborn minds and “encouraging” them to hop in on the cleaning efforts, even if they don’t want to. This might seem harmless, but when cleaning becomes more important than preserving one’s life, it can lead victims into dangerous territory. It would be easy to disregard this demon, but the wise may want to come up with a way to scrub him out of town.

The spriggan family that lives in The Pile was initially fascinated by all of the humans buzzing around, but now they’re starting to get annoyed by the intrusion. The humans are supposed to be adding trash, not taking it away! So the spriggans are doing what spriggans do best and sewing mischief about the town, with their biggest plans yet landing right on April Fool’s Day.

Careful what garbage you remove from The Pile. You might just open up a path for Curly Fry. Normally snoozing through nice weather, this beithir could still get confused by the sudden intrusion, and wouldn’t it be so understandable for it to confuse the skyquakes for thunder?

While The Old Factory seems to be perpetually immune to demolition, that doesn’t mean it can’t be spiffed up. But the humans don’t really understand what they might shake out of that place if they start poking around. That might have something to do with the large number of rat kings seen around Worm Row these days. Some people have ended up with them in their attics.

One of the easiest ways to make any place appealing (even those formally encrusted with goo) is to plant some flowers and saplings, letting nature do the rest of the work. Every year, the township’s beautification committee is responsible for introducing some new flora to add that special pop around town. But this year’s shipment of seeds are from the most far-flung of locations, and while they may be beautiful blooms, some are as lethal as they are pretty. Others might make people wish they didn’t stop to smell the roses at all.

A lot of these species have origins with the fae, and those from aos sí may be familiar with them; some are also spellcasting components your local supernatural herbalist can help you out with. While peoples’ reactions vary from fearful to cautiously curious, fae and spellcasters may be delighted by the familiar flora and easy access to rare ingredients.

Deersprings is full of hissing pansies, which are almost serpentine in appearance, and those who put their ear to them should be prepared to hear secrets they may be better off not knowing. It also turns out reindeer are highly allergic to hissing pansies, and those remaining from Winter have fled to faraway lands. Be especially careful of the snapdragons that tend to grow near the pansies. They breathe fire.

Jack’s stalks, which rapidly grow to tree-sized flowers, can grow pretty much anywhere, and the seeds are light enough to be carried even by the most gentle of breezes. These huge flowers are growing in peoples’ yards, out of chimneys, and even inside of homes, knocking the roof off. It’s said that if you climb one to the top, you might find some gold. This is really just pollen and it will make you sneeze and fall.

Fae grass has taken root all over town. Stray sod has been leaving people lost and confused even in their own backyards, and hungry grass growing on soccer fields and in parks has already resulted in some casualties. Some people have put signs up near these patches of dangerous grass, but we all know how good Resters are at ignoring signs warning them of danger.

The flowers are booming! It's not a typo. A field of flowers in Gatlin Fields has achieved limited sentience. Mostly, they're tired of people stepping on them and have an explosive response. This has turned the beautiful field into a minefield. The blasts aren't exactly deadly, but they do leave careless trotters covered in pollen, so allergy sufferers beware!

Beloved for their bright colors, zinnias are a lovely fixture of any garden, and the zinnias in Wicked’s Rest currently come in every color of the rainbow. Each color tends to have a different effect, from the blue ones making you sad, the green ones making you envious, and the red ones making you angry. Speaking of rainbows, they appear over where these flowers grow, and as far as anyone can tell they’re permanent. It’s unknown whether these are due to the flowers, or if maybe there’s some leprechaun nonsense at play. If you look for the ends of the rainbow, you might find a mauling horde instead of a pot of gold. All that glitters is their sharp teeth.

Of course, the pixies and sprites are thriving! Left unchecked, these tiny fae have been claiming entire fields and parks as their own, and some have gotten quite good at weaponizing the supernatural effects of some of the more dangerous flowers. Doing your best to avoid the flowers isn’t going to help if you then walk straight through some sprite territory. Understandably, wardens are on edge and trying to keep humans from wandering where they shouldn’t.

All of these new flowers have created a population explosion of rabbits to eat them. But the rabbits that eat supernatural flowers sometimes become supernatural themselves, and while some may simply grow pastel-colored fur and fun patterns, others take on more menacing traits. Some develop bottomless appetites and extend their diet to objects like trash cans, fences, and plastic lawn flamingos. One rabbit in particular has earned a name for itself. The name is Caerbannog. He lives in a cave in Nightfall Grove surrounded by carnivorous plants and attacks anyone in sight, tearing them apart with huge, pointy teeth a rabbit shouldn’t have.

Spring is in the air! Oh, did we say Spring? We meant bristlecat seeder pheromones. These rare demonic brood parasites lay their eggs around areas of high supernatural activity each Spring, and then immediately abandon them, letting those who stumble upon them do all the hard work. This year, one particular bristlecat chose Wicked’s Rest as their townwide nest.

Bristlecat Seeder: Growing to roughly the size of a minivan and covered in a thick shag of stinging bristles, these relatives of the goggie are imposing in their own right even if they’re not half as large. Bristlecat seeders are rarely seen as adults, and are instead known more often for their brood parasite behavior. Mother bristlecats lay their eggs around supernatural areas, and the eggs give off a strong, musty pheromone that attracts the attention of anyone nearby in a short window of time. When a victim becomes enthralled, they 1) become very stinky and 2) will take care of the egg to their own detriment, and even provide for the young bristlecat seeder when it hatches into a miniature version of the species. Young bristlecats have voracious appetites and will eat people as they rapidly grow, and may even target those who take the host’s attention away from them, but will not bite the hand that feeds. Eventually, when the bristlecat reaches a certain size, they simply wiggle away to live a life of their own, leaving behind a bereft and confused victim.

Naturally, a number of people begin to find the eggs. Maybe they find one while alone, or maybe they happen to run into an egg while with a stranger or even enemy, and it forges an unbreakable bond between an unlikely pair. While host personalities remain intact, protective instincts kick into overdrive; even those with no sense of parental instincts have no choice but to watch over the eggs until they hatch – which can take anywhere from a few days to over a month – and the little guys are big enough to be on their own.

Behavior aside, the smell that lingers on the imprinted guardians is enough to raise some brows. The scent may go undetected to the new “parents'' but those around them find it hard to ignore the musky stink in the air. It becomes even harder to ignore when the young bristlecats go after those close to the host. Nothing will seem out of the ordinary to the guardians, but will those around them be able to figure out what’s going on and break the attachment before the hatchlings grow large enough to become a true danger?

What do bristlecats eat, you might ask? (Don't ask.) They’re not picky. But in order to reach the obscene proportions required, they need to eat the meat – and preferably from something alive.

While there is no “official” way to break the thrall, some dusty old bestiaries might list some folk remedies. Generally, the weirder the suggestion, the more likely it is to work. Good luck sorting through those.

Bristlecats have spent thousands of years fine-tuning their pheromones, and even the undead are not immune to them. Humans, fae, undead, shapeshifters can all find themselves the new parents of these enormous monster caterpillars. However, the pheromones have no effect on non-sentient species.

Most commonly, bristlecats grow to almost their adult size before leaving their guardians. A lot of food is required for them to reach that point, and if they’re not kept fed, they will eat anything and everything around them.

<3<3 oh babe @slugesh already did such a great post of the best parts and I rly don't have anything to add other than to double down on wishing they'd just filmed them side by side? it's also such a weirdly throwaway Xmas video compared to how hard they've gone every year before this ?? giving them such a boring challenge and straight up not even putting the colors through post so that Oscar's lips don't look purple?? have they had like a staffing change since previous year orrrr

I wasn't active in fandom to know how much of the first part is true but I do know that they go hard for carlando bc the engagement is absolutely rabid lol. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're separating out the Lando content from Oscar bc Lando will get them more engagement on his own since he's a bigger personality and has such a huge existing fanbase. I don't check sites like twitter or even tiktok that much so idk how much their basing their targeted posting on?

side note that I kinda wish they'd done some research into the Prema videos bc that social media team blows all F1 teams socials out of the water (and with F2 money and resources no less!). none of the Prema boys apart from Arthur and Robert were natural hams yet they got all this great natural content out of them, especially Oscar! I've been on a few sets similar to that and truly so much comes from the energy behind the camera when dealing with non-professional actors or presenters. if you're low on props and the sets are minimal or just a meeting room then you've got to give the people on camera a LOT to bounce off of. again, I get that Carlos and Daniel made it easy for McLaren's team before this but like have they never done filming with any other driver?? on camera charisma is not a prerequisite for their jobs for a reason fgafgljasfgas

I truly don't know enough about McLaren bts staff to know what they might know about bringing RPF into real life territory (though Lando posting that story about the attacks on Luisinha def made their radar). I personally feel like they just found Lando's reaction to those socks to be funny, esp since he followed it up by saying he'd wear them for race days. and as I said above, they're not going to give up the social media equivalent of a cash cow like carlando or at least discourage it.

but yea the comments on the Xmas vids on IG are why I'm happy to be backing off of carlando engagement when I'm reminded that the women involved in the larrying pay taxes and possibly have children and they're spending significant time upvoting carlando onto every. single. Lando post on McLaren sm. I'm actually getting sick of shit like the mareea caray thing bc it's being absolutely beaten to death. you would literally think Carlos wasn't over there actively saying that he considers himself and Charles a packaged deal and that they make a great couple and that it wasn't his choice to go to Ferrari if you went solely by comments on a team he'd planned on leaving before even fulfilling one season with them ??

nadia lives comfortably in the upper east side . after her divorce , being permanently tied to something makes her feel trapped , so she's been renting since then ! she lives in a spacious two bedroom apartment that's honestly a little too big for just herself and her daughter , but it's home . her home is not sad and beige , especially considering there's a two and a half year old there who loves literally everything in every color .

she would never claim to be a super mom— she struggles a lot . as sad as she is about getting divorced from her daughter's father , she is pleased that they get along well for co - parenting purposes . having a high stress career and being a mom is hard , but she's doing her best !

she does run a popular cooking tiktok account called nadieats , and it's honestly just nadia cooking her favorite dishes . she films a lot of the content in advance because she does not have a lot of time to film everything she cooks . most of it is sharing traditional thai cuisine and desserts . it's definitely not in the millions of followers range , but it has about 650k so people have heard of it lol .

has it been mentioned that nadia can be tightly wound at times ? if not , then let it be known ! it all primarily stems from being the youngest of four , even though it's often the eldest who gets all of the familial pressure . as the youngest , she was expected to follow in the very large footsteps of her siblings which she has done , but that also meant sacrificing a lot of her fun years in order to do so .

her style is primarily inspired by the aesthetic that sofia richie is attributed to / jasmine tookes' style . her color palette is primarily muted in tones ( not sad beige ! ) with hints of color throughout whether that be a handbag or other accessory . nadia grew up with a mother who always made sure that her kids were well dressed when they left home , and that spilled into her adult life . even when she's going for a lazy look ,

overall , nadia is doing her best . personality wise she can come off as really snobbish sometimes depending on what she says , but most of the time she's a pleasant person to be around . she has taken a sabbatical from work even though she is definitely on track to become a managing partner at the firm she works at . right now , her focus is on being the best mom she can be and not getting picked apart by reputation.com .
