The follow-up to The New Flesh. Read that one first!
15 months prior to the raid on the Blair Mountain, Captain Terry Holder butts heads with her Chief Engineer as an unknown threat bears down on their ship.
This story does not contain sexual themes, however it is part of a larger work which does, therefore, this story is only for consumption by legal adults over the age of 18. It includes moderate violence, and coarse language.

15 months prior to the raid on the Blair Mountain
The Hildas, 550 Million Kilometers from Jupiter
“Chester, how long do you think we’re going to be stuck here?” Captain Terry Holder asked.
She and her first mate, Chester Silvera, were sitting in the mess hall of the Huntington. The ore hauler had been coasting .9 AU from 153 Hilda for 56 hours with a damaged ablator in her #2 main engine. Holder was growing restless.
Silvera, on the other hand, was in a fine mood. “Why are you so eager to get back to port?” He was downing his third slice of pizza since taking a seat 10 minutes ago. Holder couldn’t understand where his appetite came from.
“It’s creepy out here,” she said, “The nearest station is 6 days away. It takes 10 minutes for someone to even hear a distress signal. There’s nothing outside the hull. We’re alone.”
“Captain,” Silvera replied, smirking “You are aware that you can, in point of fact, choose a different occupation than deep space captain, correct?”
“Shut up,” Holder said, smiling. “You know what I mean.” She leaned back in her chair. She’d barely touched the chicken Parmesan she’d gotten from the replicator.
“You’ve been out here for 15 years, Terry,” Silvera said, slipping effortlessly into confidant mode, “You’ve been a captain for 8. You’re used to this. What’s different now?”
Holder sighed. Chester, as always, knew how to get to the heart of the matter. She sat for a moment, not wanting to say it out loud, but knowing she couldn’t hide it from her friend and crewmate. Finally, she said, “It’s Powell.”
“The engineer?” Silvera seemed genuinely surprised.
“Yeah,” said Holder, her hand idly falling to the nickel-plated pistol she wore on her hip, “I don’t like her attitude.” She rubbed her thumb on the hammer, feeling the familiar knurling, catching her thumbnail on a well-worn burr.
“You seem to get along with her just fine.” His pizza lay forgotten on the plate, he was all business now.
“Well, that’s what they pay me for, Chester.” She took a bite of chicken to buy some time before continuing, “She’s arrogant, inflexible, obsessed with rules and procedure.” She tossed her fork to the table. Chester scooted back slightly, sensing one of his captain’s moods coming on. Holder stood and began pacing.
“It’s always ‘SOP says this!’ or ‘The tech manual says that!’ always coming up with excuses why something can’t be done, except when it’s something she wants done, then procedure flies out the fucking door!” She ran her hand through her hair in frustration.
“Terry-”
“We’ve been coasting for two and a half days.”
“Terry is-”
“She told me that she has to strip the bell down to the cooling tubes for fuck’s sake.”
“TERRY!” Silvera banged his hand on the table for emphasis. Holder stopped talking.
“Yeah, Chester?”
“This is about the pistol, isn’t it?”
Holder rolled her eyes, “No, it’s not about the fucking pistol.”
“Isn’t it, though?”
The engraved, nickel-plated .45 was a family heirloom. Captains in the Civil Navy were allowed sidearms for ceremonial purposes, but they weren’t supposed to wear them outside of certain occasions. Of course, in deep space, the captain had more or less free reign, barring mutiny, and Terry liked the feeling of the heavy steel on her hip. She didn’t keep it loaded, though she did keep 2 magazines of hollow-points on her belt.
She’d never had to draw it in anger, though there had been a few close calls with pirates where she’d gone as far as to carry it cocked and locked. But that was on her old ship, the Joachimstahl.
This was her first sortie in command of the Huntington. She’d inherited the ship from a retiring captain, Jack Thorton, and the crew along with it, including the old engineer, who immediately took issue with Terry’s habit of wearing the piece. She’d actually pulled Chester aside to complain about it. It pissed Terry off.
Chester smiled gently. “Terry, I’ve known you five years. I’ve been your right hand for two. You need to get over this grudge.”
“She’s a little shit, Chester.”
“She is a fine engineer. Captain Thorton had nothing but praise for her. Has she ever disobeyed an order?”
“No, but-”
“Has she ever put the crew in danger?”
“No, but-”
“Then you need to drop this little grudge, and you know that.”
Terry was about to argue when her the radio on her belt chirped.
“Captain,” the voice of Jill Cambell, her radar navigator, “There’s something weird on the scope here.”
Terry keyed to reply “What do you mean by weird?”
“I mean I’ve never seen anything move this fast. You better get up here.”
“Be there in a minute.”
***
Captain Holder and First Mate Silvera walked onto the bridge of the Huntington. The radar station was the only one currently occupied. Campbell turned to them as they walked through the door.
“Alright, Jill,” said Terry, “What’s cracking?”
“About 20 minutes ago I got an off radar return about an AU out on the long-range band.” Campbell reported, “No exhaust signature, and it was redshifting so much I thought the scope might be broken.”
“And?”
“It’s not.” Campbell said, tossing a hand in the air. “I switched to the secondary dish. Same cross-section. Same redshift. Hit it with the high-rez, same cross section, same redshift. Whatever it is, it’s at least 50 meters long and it’s moving at O.1C.”
“So send a message to SETI’s Europa Division.” Terry was amazed but couldn’t understand why Campbell had called her to the bridge for this, “I mean, that’s incredible, really, it is, but if they’re moving away from us what’s the rush?
“Well,” Campbell seemed nervous, “Now they’re blueshifting.”
“Bullshit,” Holder dropped the word like a bag of bricks, “How is that possible? Even if something could put out that much delta-v, in that short a span, the g forces of changing direction would rip it to pieces.”
“I don’t know how, Captain,” Campbell said, turning back to the scope. “But I’d really like to have a plan when they get here.
***
“Fucking Christ, whose god damn idea was this?” Chief Engineer Genevieve Powell cursed to herself.
“Sorry Chief,” Engineer’s Mate Karl Miller said over the radio, “I uh, didn’t copy that.”
“Whoever designed the Shinkolobwe-class engine is either a sadist, an idiot, or both.” Powell replied, “This engine is pissing me off.”
She was nearing the end of a 4-hour long EVA replacing a cracked ablator panel right in the throat of the massive 10-meter fusion rocket. When the engines were active, the reactors would vent hot plasma out the back at temperatures approaching that of the surface of the sun, sending the ship moving in the opposite direction and accelerating it to a top speed of 20 million kilometers per hour.
But right now, they weren’t doing anything of the sort. The ablator shield, a layer of boronated plastic 4 meters thick meant to both protect the engine bells from melting and absorb excess neutrons, was cracked, right in the throat. With the ablator shield damaged, the plume coming out of the rocket engine wouldn’t be smooth and even, but roiling with turbulence. Turbulence that would, at best, drop the propulsive efficiency enough to put serious differential stresses on the spaceframe. At worst, it would impinge on the hull, or through to the engine bell, either way burning through and destroying the ship.
Which was why Powell had been awake for 40 hours. Why she and the engineering team had been working in shifts to painstakingly repair the panel. Angle grinders, caulk guns full of boron paste, a portable X-ray unit, and lots and lots of elbow grease.
“Miller,” Powell said, wiping her cheek on the inside of her helmet. “You ever wonder whose brilliant fucking idea was it to use ablative shielding instead of magnetic on a 100-giganewton fusion engine?”
“Can’t say I have,” Miller replied, “You’re gonna have to take that up with Tycho Shipbuilding. Captain wants to know your ETA.”
“God dammit,” The Captain was pissing Powell off. No respect for the work involved in keeping nuclear fusion going without blowing the whole ship to hell, or bombarding the crew with fast neutrons, or turning them all into sludge with 100g burns. “Is this about me not using the tether?” The umbilical tether was supposed to be worn whenever the EVA thruster pack was in use, as a backup, in case the thrusters failed. Powell hated the damn thing. It got in the way and the thruster pack was reliable enough she didn’t need it.
“Uh, I don’t think so, Chief.”
“It’ll be done when it’s fucking done. I’ve got another 3 meters of length on this bitch of a crack. It goes 45 centimeters deep. It’s going to take at least another 10 hours to fill that.”
There was a pause as Miller relayed this to the captain, then, “Uh, Chief,” Miller said, nervously, “Captain says you have an hour.”
“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN? Put her on, now.”
“She says there’s some kind of pirates bearing in on us in 60 minutes.”
Powell rolled her eyes, “That’s not possible. There wasn’t anything within 4 AU of us when I came out here. Tell her I’m not doing anything without talking to her first.”
A brief pause on Miller’s end, then, “Have it your way.”
Powell continued grinding at the crack for a moment. Then Holder’s voice came on. “Powell, I know we don’t get along,” that was an understatement, Powell thought, “But Campbell confirmed this thing is moving at one-tenth c, heading directly towards us. It’s crossed 20 million clicks since she started tracking it. It actually reversed direction to come this way. I know it sounds like bullshit, but I need you to get whatever you can filled and get back into the airlock. I sent out a distress signal but I won’t hear back from Hilda station for at least another 2 minutes”
“Captain, you can’t just rush something like this!” Powell protested, “The differential forces alo-”
Holder cut her off, “I’m aware of the structural ramifications. It’s my ship and that’s a risk I’m willing to take.”
“Captain,” Powell said, “how are we going to outrun something a hundred times faster than us?”
“We’re not. But I’ll need the engines. Trust me.”
Powell gritted her teeth. She couldn’t stand Holder, but Campbell was good. She and Powell had served together under Thorton, and Campbell had helped Powell develop a couple of scanning tools for the engines that worked a hell of a lot better than stock equipment.
“If Campbell’s sure then. I can maybe get you 10 cm of depth along the rest of the crack. It won’t be good for the full trip back to Europa but I should be able to get you enough dV to get us on our way before I have to come back here and fix it again.”
Holder thought for a moment, then replied, “Make it so, Jenna.”
“Aye captain.”
For the next 45 minutes, Powell broke rule after rule for ablator repair. Instead of x-raying the crack she ground it down to 15 centimeters visually. She filled it in with ablator paste and smoothed it by hand before it had cured instead of sanding it once it was dry. By the end of the ordeal, she had used 100 kilos of ablator paste, far less than the 700 the job properly needed. She looked out at a nearby asteroid as they drifted past, and said into her mic, “Miller?”
“Chief?” came Miller’s soft voice through the headset. Powell saw a glint of something off by the big rock in space.
“Tell the captain I’m climbing out. I’ll be at the airlock in 5-” Powell was cut off by a squeel of static and a flash of bright light from the dorsal side of the ship. The shock jolted the Huntington and knocked Powell against the inside of the engine bell. She felt her shoulder crack. The screeching of static faded but was replaced by her own cries of agony. She was floating out towards the center of the nozzle, she couldn’t move her fingers to control the maneuvering pack.
Another flash and another impact jolted the ship vertically. Static filled Powell’s ears as she bounced into the bottom of the engine bell and then up, out into the vast expanse of space.
***
“Owens, damage report,” Holder barked.
Iris Owens responded, “Two detonations in the 2 kiloton range, a kilometer dorsal of us. Numbers 5 and 6 radiators showing a pressure drop. The rest are showing overheat but coming down.”
It had been an ambush. Holder didn’t know how it happened, but it couldn’t have been anything else. Somehow the two ships, 10 light-minutes away from each other, had coordinated. While the Huntington had been busy worrying about the distant ship, another had been hiding behind a nearby asteroid.
There wasn’t time to think about it though, “Miller,” Holder barked, “Pitch us up 115 degrees, roll 45 starboard.”
“Pitch up 115, roll 45 starboard.”
“Powell, what’s your status?”
***
Powell couldn’t move her right arm. The impact had shattered her shoulder blade and humerus. Her RCS system was giving her a warning that one of the quads had malfunctioned. Even if she’d been able to move the translation control, it wouldn’t have done any good.
I’m going to die out here, she realized.
Flashes of warm yellow-white light appeared behind her. The hypergolic RCS system was pitching the ship up, rolling it to the right. She watched as the huge ship seemed to breech like a whale, then pirouette. Over her radio she heard the captain’s voice, “Powell, what’s your status.”
“I’m alive!” she’d never been so happy to hear Terry Holder’s stupid fucking voice, “I’m alive but I can’t get back to the airlock! My thrusters are damaged and my shoulder’s broken.”
“Powell?” came the captain’s voice again, “Powell can you read me?”
“I can read you,” Powell shouted, tearing up from pain, or maybe from fear, “I can read you! Please respond.”
She realized that Holder couldn’t hear her. The wire for the microphone must have been damaged by the impact that broke her shoulder.
She was alone out here.
***
“Miller,” Holder said, “What’s Powell’s biomed say.”
Miller turned red in the face and stammered, “Uhhh,”
“Miller I do not have time for this, what’s her biomed say?”
“She isn’t wearing it.”
“What?”
“She said she didn’t have time to put it on.”
“Retract her tether.”
“She’s not wearing that either.”
Holder felt ice creep down her spine. The whole scene seemed to go quiet and time stood still. In 8 years as a captain, Holder had never lost a crew member. She hadn’t even considered it a real possibility. But now, with her chief engineer missing and unresponsive, she didn’t know what to do. It felt like she was a lieutenant again, fresh out of training. She looked at Silvera, pleading.
Chester, for his part, looked as disturbed as she was. But he kept his cool, “Its your call, Captain.”
Holder knew what she should do, but that didn’t make it any easier. The fact she couldn’t stand Powell made it even harder, somehow. But if Powell wasn’t responding, and there was no way to retrieve her, then she was dead, one way or the other. Holder didn’t want to think about it.
Time started again, “Owens, get ready to dump ore bay 3. Miller, point the ventral hull at that ship and be ready with a 200m/s dorsal burn.”
***
The ship swung away from Powell, but then continued through its arc and, incredibly, came close enough to her that she was able to grab a handrail, only 20 meters from the airlock.
She scrambled to gain a foothold as she held on tight with her one good arm. This was a long shot, but it was her only hope for survival. She found purchase, and set her aim, then kicked and swung herself around, spinning head over heels. For 3 eternal seconds, she drifted through space, only inky black and stars filling her vision. Then the ship came back into view, and she grabbed at the first thing she could see and held on for dear life.
She’d grabbed one of the many high-gain antennae that dotted the hull. Carefully, she slid her hand down and pulled herself towards the hull. She was only 5 meters from the airlock. As her hand made contact with the hull, she felt a rumble through it. She looked around, and her heart dropped.
***
“Ore bay 3 open, Captain,” said Owens.
“Good. Disengage cargo restraints.”
“Cargo restraints disengaged”
“Miller, 200m/s dorsal,” Holder commanded
“200 m/s dorsal, captain.” Came Miller’s reply.
***
The roof of the ship lit up all around Powell. She could feel the heat from the thrusters. The sudden change in environment made her jump, and she lost her grip on the antenna. Relief turned, once again, to mortal dread as the Huntington sped away from her, leaving her floating, dying, in deep space, billions of kilometers from her home in Dublin.
***
“Dorsal burn complete, captain.” Said Miller.
“Good,” said Holder, “Now put that ore between us and that ship, face us away from it.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She would only have one chance to make this work, but Holder was a star poker player and knew how to use a bum hand to her advantage. Hold 3 had, until a minute ago, contained 20,000 metric tons of dense iridium ore. The Huntington didn’t have any armaments, but that didn’t mean she was defenseless.
“Holder, on my mark, engage engines, full power. Skip the purge burn.”
Miller nodded, “Preparing to fire main engines.”
***
The captain had jettisoned the contents of bay 3. Powell was beyond panic now. Not calm, but something else entirely. Numb to everything around her, she watched with a detached fascination as the ship pitched downward and yawed to starboard, before translating forward slightly, and finally starboard. It settled with the #2 engine that she’d just been working on a mere 10 meters away. She could see the big regenerative cooling tubes and the mounting cavity behind them.
She watched as the bell shuddered slightly, and recognition dawned on her. She hoped she wouldn’t feel what was coming next.
***
“Ignition complete.” came Miller’s clipped voice, “Standing by for full-power burn.”
Captain Holder got on the PA, “All hands, prepare for burn in 10 seconds.”
A preternatural calm came over the Captain. She hoped that Powell’s work had been enough. With 3 seconds left before the burn, she opened a channel, hoping Powell would somehow hear her, and said, “Please forgive me, Jenna.”
The two main engines of the Civil Ship Huntington spooled up. The ship’s dual fusion reactors pumping liquefied lithium deuteride into preburners that heated the silver grey dust hot enough to push it past liquid and gas and into ionized plasma, so hot the electrons and nuclei were ripped apart by sheer kinetic energy.
That was only the beginning, though. Next, the reactor squeezed down with a magnetic field stronger than the sun’s, and as the plasma was squeezed and heated even further, strong forces in the lithium atoms broke down, creating hydrogen and tritium, the latter of which sought out another atom to join itself to and, finding deuterium, they embraced, creating helium. As they did, each of them sacrifice a small portion of its mass to ensure this wedding would endure and, in doing so, a tiny fraction of each of those atoms was transformed, vanished from existence, into pure energy. This happened billions of trillions of times in a single second, and all of that energy had to go somewhere. Knowing this, the ship’s computer opened a hole in the magnetic confinement that coincided with the opening in the engine bell. Kinetic energy and Sir Issac’s third law dictated what happpened next.
Superheated plasma existed the engine bell at a temperature unmeasurable by any mechanical means, directly at the mass of iridium behind the ship. Much of the heavy metal immediately evaporated, but some survived, now white-hot and superheated, and heading directly towards the unknown ship assailing the Huntington at nearly 20 million kilometers per hour. The kinetic energy imparted transferred itself immediately to the ship, shredding it as easily as buckshot would disintegrate a clay pigeon. The Huntington sped away under her own power as the enemy ship dissolved under the barrage.
***
There is no air in space, thus there is no convection. There is, however, thermal radiation. The bulk of the plasma had been directed behind the Huntington, but the brilliant white-hot glow of her engines carried heat as well as light. It was this heat, in a pulse that lasted only 10 milliseconds before the Huntington sped away, that struck Jenna Powell.
For 10 milliseconds, every inch of her space suit that had been facing the engine, as well as her face, were heated to incandescence. Only her flesh and hair burned. The suit’s suppression system temporarily flooded her helmet with CO2, which worked to quell it within 2 seconds, but the damage had been done. The exterior of her suit, unable to ignite due to the lack of oxygen, instead boiled off. The sudden release of energy propelling her backwards, away from the rocket blast, saving her from the quick and painless death she had expected.
She screamed. She screamed and she cried. She was alone. Alone, and dying. She thought about home. About the Wicklow Mountains, about the sound of rain on a March evening, about the warmth of her bed. She thought about all of these, and how she would never see them again.
A shadow appeared over her. She felt herself being pulled backwards. Suddenly, an unfamiliar hallway appeared around her. A door closed in front of her, and she heard the hiss of an airlock pressurizing. After the silence of space and her ordeal, the sound was like a hammer in her brain.
She felt artificial gravity engage, and fell to the floor on her broken shoulder. She couldn’t even muster the energy to scream.
A pair of strangely mechanical armored legs appeared in front of her, and she felt herself lifted off the floor by powerful hands. A twisted face came into view, covered in wires and metal.
“Do not resist,” the figure said, its voice feminine and curiously synthetic, “You will become beautiful.”
Jenna Powell blacked out.

Baby Ducks AU Teenage Headcanons
(Only Chase and Thirteen this time since I'm still not exactly sure how I'm going to put Kutner in this AU, but eventually I will write some for him too)
Both Chase and Thirteen are one hundred thousand percent 'nerds'. In both the academic and the hobby sense.
Both of them are quick as a whip (they're House's kids, how could they not be?). On the Honor Roll, all honors and AP classes, that sort of thing. There's never any pressure from House or Wilson to be high achieving; they're very self motivated, but it's not for the grades or the GPA. Growing up with House meant that his thirst for knowledge rubbed off on them. They always want to know more about the world, the body, the brain, etc.
Chase is quiet about it, but he's a bookworm. He's always got one in his backpack or on his bedside table.
Thirteen enjoys reading too, but she's a bit more of a TV nerd. I think her favorites would be Xena: Warrior Princess, Buffy, most of the Star Trek series, etc. (Probably also really liked the '80s She-Ra as a kid, even though it was a little bit before her time in this AU)
Thirteen and some of her friends get into D&D when she's 12-13, and she LOVES it. She (lovingly) bullies Chase into trying it despite his many, many complaints, but he ends up adoring it, too. They manage to convince House and drag Wilson into doing one-shots with them a couple times a month, and eventually start trying to wheedle their way into a full campaign. (They succeed. House DMs and has too much fun with it.)
(Wilson is supportive of the nerdiness and D&D, it just takes him a while to wrap his head around how to do TTRPGs)
Neither one of them is quite as into video games as House is, but they both enjoy playing them. There are definitely many extremely intense family Mario Kart nights, and Thirteen and Chase have one hundred percent gotten into a physical fight that started over Mario Kart (lmaoooo).
Thirteen is into the Legend of Zelda games whereas I think teenage Chase would enjoy faster paced games like the Sonic franchise. Both of them like the Pokémon games and would probably play the ones you could link up with each other on (the ones on GBC and GBA, and maybe later the original NDS) together.
Tweenage Chase and Thirteen (14 and 12) stay up way too late to play Pokemon together. There's a period where almost every night they're hidden in one of their bedrooms, lights off and covers pulled up over their heads, with a flashlight and their Gameboy Colors.
Teenage Chase takes after House and plays the guitar. He can definitely carry a tune (read: he has a great voice but he's modest about it/doesn't ever tell anyone outside his family about it), but he'd keep singing as something for himself, just at home or in private.
Thirteen takes up the piano to improve her dexterity and fine motor skills once she's old enough to understand that she's at risk for Huntington's. Music theory isn't her style, but she does love the challenge in teaching herself progressively harder and harder pieces, and the control and detail it takes to master something particularly tricky.
House has absolutely shown them anime and manga. More on that in a later post for sure.

C-Drama Review: Love in Panacea
Broadcast: Youku, 2023, 34 Episodes Genre: Romance, Medical Drama
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My Rating 7/10
Great acting and an interesting plot about medical science and living with an uncurable disease, that almost got ruined by an overly cliché script and questionable directing. I would have rated this higher, if they had been brave enough to broadcast the full ending.
Acting: 9/10 World-building: 8/10 Production: 5/10 Storytelling: 5/10 Pacing: 8/10 Re-watch Value: 6/10  Bonus +1: for two of my favorite things: Luo Yunxi and science!
Summary with minor spoilers
After finding out, that she is genetically predisposed to developing the hereditary Huntington's disease, Su Weian drops out of university. She gives up her dream of becoming a doctor herself and instead travels the world to earn money to provide for her widowed mother. In the (fictional) North African region of Lakaya, she meets her former university professor Dr. Gu Yunzheng, who is part of a Chinese medical aid project. The two quickly develop feelings for each other, but Su Weian does not want to enter into a relationship due to her inevitable illness. The couple meet again later in China. There, the plot picks up, introducing complex competitive relationships between the main couple and the second leads, Du Yuncheng and his girlfriend Wen Ran. Ultimately, Gu reignites So Weians will to live and practice medical science in an attempt to find a cure for the Huntington's disease. Will their love for each other and their belief in modern medicine be enough to save Su Weian, before the disease progresses too far?
My review - spoilers ahead!
The word panacea comes from the Greek: panakēs, meaning "all-healing,” it describes a mystical remedy for any disease. In current use, panacea is most often used to decry a remedy that falls short of what some claim it can do. Love is Panacea is not a show about how love conquers and heals all, it's a drama that shows that, while love can be a powerful motivator to achieving great things and helps to cope with hardships, ultimately it's not a magical solution. There only is a strenuous and unbiased medical research. Love is Panacea is therefore not a medical drama in the classical sense, rather a show about the ethics and process of medical science and research. Luckily, that's right down my alley.
Tumblr media
The secondary plot is about how important love is and how damning the absence of love can be to people. We see this with Gu Yunzheng and his half-brother Du Yuncheng, who both are struggling with their loveless upbringing. Or in the one-sides loves of both Du Yuncheng and Wen Ran, that pushes them to unreasonable decisions.
I didn’t mind the back-and-forth between the couple in the middle. Su Weian still refuses his advances, because she doesn't want to put him through her inevitable death, but she also doesn't want to put herself through it. While she has regained her will to live in the first arc, she still doesn't dare to hope and build a life. Su Weian doesn't want to be with him for the same reason she dropped out of university - she believes that none of it matters. I actually think, Gu Yunzheng has not fully realized what this relationship will mean in the future. He is still optimistic, but also unable to let go - not just because he loves her, but because of the abandonment issues due to his mother leaving.
For Su Weian, love and support by the people around her becomes the most important resource when being faced with her disease. It's a shame, that they decided not to broadcast anything past her initial symptoms, including her son.
The third main sub-plot is about social status and equality in relationships. In a society in which social status determines marriages almost as much as romantic feelings, love can only go so far. Every parent of the show brings up the social statutes of their child’s potential partner at some point, either to say that someone is a great match or not good enough, or because they are afraid they will face discrimination from the in-laws. This narrative also runs through the professional life, where people with connections have a far easier way to achieve success. The show takes a stance against both - focusing on the ideal of equality both in personal and professional matters, as well as in medical aid. In a way, this has the same message as Till The End of The Moon, that every life is precious and should be threatened equally.
Luo Yunxi gave an interview about the show, in which he explained, who important it is for him, that his romantic partner is also his equal. In the show, Gu Yunzheng pushed Su Weian as he believes in her and wants to give her a reason to fight, but also because he sees her as his equal, who should achieve this status based on her own work and talent. He rejects any form of nepotism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Du Yuncheng unhealthy obsession with Su Weian leads to people's death, because he prioritizes her over everyone else. Meanwhile, Gu Yunzheng and Su Weian trust in the scientific process, even if that means they won’t develop the medication in time to save her. As a scientist myself, this part of the story resonated with me.
But I’m also a person with a complex medical history, that was deeply moved by the story about facing a deadly disease. At times, the show was almost too triggering for me. This makes me relate to Su Weian, who was beautifully portrayed by Zhang Ruonan, a lot. The most heartbreaking scene was when the audience finds out, what Su Weian’s mother had been going through and how both women have tried to stay strong for the other. Zhao Mai Lan quickly became my favorite character!
Tumblr media
The plot and script is the strongest, when it’s focusing on the hardships of medical research and coping with a deadly disease. If you go into this, expecting a romance, you will be disappointed. Not only is this not the focus of the show, the romantic scenes are written and directed inadequate. It’s the worst in the first arc in Lakaya, because they additionally relied on exotism, which made it hard to watch. But it does get better after they are back in China! There are still some unnecessary cliché or cringe scenes with questionable editing, but it is bearable. The 3rd couple was fine, but barely in there after the first arc. I actually wished they had more screen time. The 2nd couple was mostly relevant to the plot as adversaries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if your love for Luo Yunxi, medical science or angsty romances is strong enough, that you can overlook these weak points, Love is Panacea is an enjoyable drama! I only wish, they wouldn’t have ended it so abruptly.

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for season 4, sixteenth episode "A House Divided" which originally aired on May 9, 2023. The episode was written by Matt Solik and directed by Tessa Blake. Spoilers ahead!

We begin the episode in the hospital. Thankfully it's not Owen or TK but it is another Strand. Robert Strand (Chad Lowe) has cut his hand while slicing open a bagel. Robert laments the tremor he has in his hand and tells Owen he is running out of excuses for not being able to play catch with his daughter. Robert still hasn't told his daughters about his diagnosis because he doesn't want to blow up their world. Owen admits he kept his lung cancer diagnosis from TK in the beginning. He tells Robert that he thought he was going to die but after several rounds of chemo and surgery he is still alive. Robert says that Huntington's is not cancer. There's no chemo or treatment for it. He describes it as a vicious, unrelenting descent to the end. He then tells Owen he and his wife are already making preparations for what's to come. Robert encourages Owen to check to see if he has the gene.
Title card! Wow! I haven't written that in a while.

Our first emergency of the episode involves a yard sale. Vic (Michael McMilian) and Clara (Ellie Araiza) are  a divorced couple who are attempting to sell their things much to the disapproval of their adorable son, Quincy (Lincoln Bodin). We see Quincy talking to a creepy dude and then he is gone. Vic and Clara are freaking out and my first thought was that the creepy dude walked off with him. Clara dials 9-1-1 and Carlos arrives on the scene. Thankfully Quincy is still in the yard, in an old armoire, but due to it being super hot outside, he is unresponsive. Grace coaches Carlos on how to revive Quincy. Carlos goes over to Checkov's lemonade stand and pours a pitcher of ice cold lemonade onto Quincy which wakes him up. Quincy tells his parents he hid in the armoire because he doesn't want to leave.
Owen heads over to TK and Carlos' apartment and tells his son that Robert was diagnosed with Huntington's a month ago. TK says he didn't notice any symptoms when they had dinner together. Owen tells him that Robert hides his tremors and cognitive issues well but they are progressing. TK is confused because Robert drove himself halfway across the country to visit them both in Texas. Owen says he is planning on taking some time off from the firehouse so he can drive Robert back to California. While he is gone, Judd will be in charge of the 126.
TK points out that Huntington's disease is hereditary and asks Owen if Robert knows which of his parents carries the gene. Owen tells TK that the gene was passed down from Owen and Robert's dad - TK's grandfather. TK connects the dots that if Robert has the disease then there's a chance he and Owen may wind up with it. TK is overwhelmed by this news and wonders if he should postpone the wedding. Owen encourages him to keep on living his life. TK tells him there's no way he can marry Carlos with a death sentence hanging over his head. Owen reminds him that everyone has a death sentence hanging over their head. He tells TK that he just got tested and he will have the results in 48 hours. If it turns out he doesn't have the gene then TK will definitely not have it. TK tells Owen he could've waited for a negative result and then never have said anything but Owen says he is done hiding things from him. He tells TK that he needs him just as much as TK needs him.

We head over to the Ryders' residence and see a game of charades already in progress. This reminded me of the scene in season two where Grace and Judd, Tommy and Charles, and Owen and Gwyn were playing charades. This time around we have Grace and Judd, Tommy and Trevor Parks (DB Woodside) and Wyatt (Jackson Pace) and his girlfriend, Leigh Ann (Jessi Case). Trevor asks Wyatt about joining the fire academy and the latter tries to downplay how things are going. Leigh Ann pipes up and tells the room that everything is going well. Judd brags about Wyatt's ladder drill time which is 5 minutes and 29 seconds. He says that when he was in the academy the fastest time was 5 minutes and 50 seconds. Wyatt continues to be modest about his accomplishments but Leigh Ann tells everyone that he's been getting calls from captains in the area trying to recruit him. This scene was so cute because Judd is clearly so proud of Wyatt. Side note: Judd looked hot as hell in the glasses he was wearing. End of side note. Wyatt mentions that when he graduates he's been invited to join the 122 or the 124. Tommy says he should consider working for Captain Ryder at the 126. Judd shrugs off the compliment and says he is only acting captain while Owen is away. Judd admits that every time he is left in charge of the 126, he's always worried things are going to crash and burn. Tommy says the house couldn't be in better hands and reminds him that he's an excellent captain.
Tumblr media
Trevor gets a notification on his phone about a table opening up at a really fancy, hard-to-get-into restaurant and asks if he should make a reservation. The others tell him to make a reservation and plans are made to have dinner together the following Thursday. Wyatt and Leigh Ann will babysit Baby Charlie.
Our second emergency of the episode involves a fire at a paper mill. Judd is acting as captain and gives out orders. He sends Marjan, Mateo, and Paul inside the building to search for people. Tommy, Nancy, and TK arrive on the scene and set up triage in the parking lot. A woman comes up to TOmmy and tells her that her friend Jimmy is trapped inside of a machine inside the burning building. Tommy radios Judd to tell her she, Nancy, and TK are heading inside to check on the man and Judd tells her to be careful. Tommy, Nancy and TK locate Jimmy and they see that his arm is trapped. Jimmy's heart is racing and he is barely clinging to consciousness. Tommy radios Judd and tells him Jimmy is bleeding internally and asks for an ETA on when additional help arrives. Judd tells her he is still waiting on the 129. Meanwhile, Marjan hears one of the machines inside the mill making noises and radios to Judd. He tells her that it's probably chemicals and commands her, Mateo, and Paul to exit the building. Judd sends out a may day for everyone to evacuate.
Tumblr media
Tommy orders Nancy and TK to evacuate. Judd asks them where Tommy is and TK tells him she's still inside with the patient. Nancy tells him that the patient is stuck in a machine and Tommy needs help with extrication. Judd radios Tommy and tells her he gave the evacuation order and she needs to get out of the building. Tommy says she has a pulse on the patient. Judd places Marjan in charge and heads inside the building. Judd takes an axe and uses it to cut off the man's arm and he carries him out of the building with Tommy on his heels. The mill explodes moments later.
Back at the house, things are pretty frosty between both captains. Judd approaches Tommy and asks if she wants to talk about what happened at the paper mill. Tommy says there's nothing to talk about. Yes she lost someone in the field but it's something that happens. Judd clarifies that he's asking her about her disregard for his direct order to evacuate. Tommy says she heard his order but she chose to not follow it because she was trying to save Jimmy's life. Judd informs her that he has an after action report to fill out and he doesn't know what to document. Tommy encourages him to document what actually happened. Judd tells her he feels uncomfortable documenting what really happened due to their friendship. He then says he doesn't want to pull rank but Tommy reminds him they have the same rank. Tommy reminds him that as fire captain he gets to call the shots on how to best put out a fire and as paramedic captain she gets to decide what is the best way to treat an injured patient. Judd says that sometimes those two things don't always align and on their call he was the incident commander, therefore it was his duty to protect everyone in the paper mill. Tommy says it's her duty to protect her patients and she was not going to leave Jimmy to die. Judd reminds her that Jimmy did die and that it's by the grace of God that they didn't die along with him. Tommy tells Judd that she didn't ask for him to come into the paper mill. She then asks if he would like an apology from her. Judd tells her he ain't looking for an apology. What he is looking for is the assurance that something like that isn't going to happen on a future call. Tommy says she cannot predict the future. Judd flips the script and says that he can't predict the future either, however, he would like the confidence to know that the mother of his goddaughters is going to make it home - especially since they just lost their father. Tommy is clearly rattled by hearing this and tells Judd he doesn't get to use that against her. She tells him she is done with their conversation and gets up and leaves.
Tumblr media
Carlos gets home from his shift and finds TK still awake. TK tells him that he can't sleep and when Carlos presses him about it, TK tells him that things are not okay. He tells Carlos about his uncle Robert's Huntington disease diagnosis and how it's hereditary. Carlos points out that Robert and Owen are only half-brothers but TK tells him that it comes from his grandfather's side. Carlos takes in this news and asks if there's a way to test for it. TK tells him that Owen is currently waiting for the results. If Owen doesn't have it, TK is in the clear. Carlos asks about the potential symptoms associated with Huntington's and TK says aside from all of the cognitive issues, there will be struggles with walking, eating, talking, and breathing. Everything starts shutting down. Carlos says it's a LOT to process and TK agrees. TK tells Carlos he has zero expectations and he doesn't want this to be a death sentence for both of them. Carlos asks what he means and TK tells him he doesn't expect Carlos to go through with the wedding. He doesn't want to be a burden on Carlos. Carlos reminds about the whole 'in sickness and in health' part of their marriage vows but TK is unconvinced. He is worried that he'll end up forgetting who Carlos is. Carlos says that he'll just have to remind him every day. Carlos tells TK that they are soulmates which is the first time he has said this out loud. Carlos assures TK that he will not run away.
Tumblr media
Asha Fulton (Amanda Payton) arrives at the firehouse and Nancy assumes she is there to see Paul. She is actually there to see Captain Vega. Asha goes to Tommy's office and talks to her about the incident at the paper mill fire. She asks Tommy if she recalls an order being given to evacuate the building and Tommy says she does. While Tommy is questioned, she sees Judd and it is very evident things are not good between these two. Trevor arrives at Tommy's house to pick her up for their double dinner date with Judd and Grace. Tommy is not dressed and tells Trevor they should cancel their dinner plans. Trevor insists they cannot cancel their reservation because it was a miracle he got the reservation in the first place. Tommy tells Trevor she can't break bread with a snitch, the snitch being Judd Ryder. She goes on to explain that Judd called HR on her due to the two of them having a difference of opinion. That's the understatement of the century, haha.
Meanwhile, Judd is having a similar conversation with Grace who is looking absolutely stunning. Grace believes her husband may have overreacted when he reported Tommy but he insists he didn't want to get HR involved. Judd says that since he has been trusted with the responsibility of being captain in the absence of Owen, he wants to make sure he is following the rules. Grace tells Judd he needs to get dressed but like Tommy, he is not in the mood to dine out.
Tumblr media
Back at Tommy's place, Trevor is practically begging her to get dressed so they can go out but Tommy is being stubborn. He starts quoting Proverbs to her but Tommy tells him to not get biblical on her. Grace is also quoting scripture to Judd. Neither Grace nor Trevor seem to be getting through to their partners. Eventually Tommy and Judd acquiesce to going to dinner. The scene at the restaurant is one of the funniest scenes of the show. Things between Judd and Tommy get worse when their respective partners try to play mediator. Before long, Grace and Trevor are sniping back and forth at each other while Judd and Tommy watch in horror. Eventually both couples are thrown out of the fancy restaurants and things between our two captains are no better than what they were before they all sat down to break bread together.
The next day at the house, it's the paramedics versus the firefighters. Judd and Tommy's feud has trickled down to their subordinates and now the whole family is at odds. I'd just like to point out that nothing like this has ever happened when Owen Strand was in charge. Just saying. Tommy breaks up the bickering between Nancy, TK, Mateo, Marjan and Paul and reminds them that even though they are two teams, they are one family. Judd goes to talk to Tommy and tells her he appreciates what she said. Tommy tells him that everything she said was true. Judd says that even though there were some things said the night before, the only thing that matters is that they love and respect each other. Tommy tells him that's never changed. Judd asks if he and Tommy are good and she says they've always been good. Tommy tells him she's made arrangements so that her paramedics will work an opposite shift from the firefighters until Owen gets back.
Tumblr media
In our final emergency scene of the episode, the 126 paramedics respond to a call where someone has been hit while riding a bicycle. When Tommy, Nancy, and TK arrive at the scene, they discover the victim is Wyatt. Judd arrives at the hospital and asks Tommy where Wyatt is. She tells him that Wyatt is in surgery. She also lets Judd know that Wyatt has some brain swelling and several broken vertebrae but he has the best spinal cord surgeon in Austin working on him. Judd starts to fall apart and Tommy reminds him that Wyatt is alive and that his vitals are strong. Judd asks Tommy to shoot straight with him. He asks her how bad it is and she tells him she doesn't know. She tells him that they will have to wait and see and that she will wait for him.
TK gets a call from his dad who is at the beach with Robert and his family in California. He tells TK that he got the results back from the clinic and he is negative for the Huntington gene which means TK is also in the clear. TK is relieved and Owen tells him he should celebrate. TK tells him he should celebrate as well. Owen tells him that Robert's having a barbecue for him for his last night in California.
Tumblr media
In the final scene of the episode, Owen and Robert are sitting on a bench at the beach. Owen notices Robert has a tremor in his left land which means his Huntington's symptoms are getting worse. He asks Robert how long he plans on keeping his diagnosis a secret from his wife and kids and Robert says he will tell him soon. Owen says the problem with soon is that eventually it becomes later. He tells Robert not to do what he did when he kept TK in the dark about his cancer diagnosis. Robert says he will tell them tomorrow after Owen leaves to head back to Texas. He says he promises they will know before TK's wedding. Owen is surprised to hear that Robert is still coming. Robert says he will bring his wife and his daughters because he wants them to meet his family.
Robert says he has a favor to ask of Owen. He says that he plans on staying in Texas after the wedding so he can spend some more time with Owen. Owen says he thinks that will be great but he doesn't think he'll be able to drive him back to California afterwards. Robert says he won't have to drive him back because he doesn't plan on coming back to California. He then asks Owen to help him die. End of episode.
Tumblr media
Whoa! This episode was way intense and I enjoyed every moment of it. I love the beef between Judd and Tommy. We've never seen these two be at odds before and it was fun seeing them going toe-to-toe. The interesting part about their disagreement is that I saw both sides. I totally got where Judd was coming from. At the end of the day, he knows what it's like to lose someone on the team and he doesn't want to see that happen to anyone on the 126. However, Tommy's job is to save people, even if it means putting her own life in harm's way. I'm glad these two are back to being friends again. I just hate that it took something bad happening for that to happen.
The plot involving Owen and his brother, Robert, was also well done. It sucks that Owen lost his brother when he was really young and now he's about to lose his other brother. This is all coming so close on the heels of him losing Gwyn. Both Owen and TK have endured so much loss on this show and this seems so unfair but it does make for great storytelling. I truly wonder if Owen is going to be able to help his brother end his life. It's even more messed up when you realize that Owen wasn't able to save his brother Tyler and he won't be able to save his brother Robert and his whole life is dedicated to rescuing people. Ugh! I feel really bad for Owen. Well, I guess we'll have to wait to see what he decides to do. Until next time!

My new thoughts on Transformers Dark of the Moon
I have rewatched the full film after a long time. It’s been many minutes since then. Even though the film is eleven years old. But I want to warn ahead that I will mention there will be spoilers in this. But they will be under the keep reading option. This won’t be a full-on review. But a bunch of rambles in separate parts and...how would’ve changed the film. This is all just my opinion.
If you just want to hear my quick thoughts on the film. Here’s what I want to say.
I genuinely liked it...I still like it. Even though there are things I think could’ve changed. But I actually liked this film. This is maybe my favorite Bayformers film. But I still like the first one a lot.
That I recall a nice friend of mine from years ago, Cure4, a guy who did fake movie posters, and did review some movies. But he’s sadly gone from the internet. If I can recall what he said right...I agree with him that Dark of the Moon should’ve been the sequel that the 2007 film should’ve had. And I feel like this was the last Transformers film Michael Bay at least tried. Particularly with the fact this would’ve been his last...until shit changed.
Moving on.
-
- I’d just want to say that I think this film has the best CGI in the franchise. I’m being serious. The special effects and everything else are so good. It doesn’t feel cheap (Which sounds rude of me sorry). And I thought Revenge of the Fallen still had good effects. But this takes the cake along with the original 2007 film.
It just looks so real and professional.  The robots, the destruction, and many other things. It looks really damn good. And strangely...beautiful eye candy in a sense.
- The score from Steve Jablonsky is maybe my favorite in the Bayformers pentalogy. Along with the score from the 2007 film. This man always fuckin delivers. Honestly, all of the scores for these films are so good.
- This may sound strange but considering the runtime...I think the pacing is pretty fine. It’s long enough for the story it needs to be told, and it works for the film.
- I honestly think out of all of the villains in the Bayformers pentalogy, Sentinel Prime is the best villain right to Megatron in the 2007 film. And an added bonus is that he’s voiced by Leonard Nimoy. Who voiced Galvatron in the 1986 Transformers film. He does a fantastic job.
Don’t worry, I’ll get into more of the criticisms. But I wanted to say some positive stuff first.
- Let me tell you this. I don’t hate Sam Witwicky as a character. But I think I’m more frustrated in a sense with him.
To be honest, I can understand his struggles with him and his arc. The whole job thing, and I get he wants to matter. But I think a problem with his character is that...again, I get he’s pissed, he’s frustrated with his place in life. But I feel like his character should’ve been more likable. While he does get better in the film. Maybe that’s the point.
I feel like the problem with his character is that I guess he’s inconsistent. Or that he just seems...too rude at times. Which sounds so strange. Because this will lead into the next part. While I find his freakout with his car funny. This dude...he’s a mixed bag. But maybe that’s the point.
Including I will admit, couldn’t he...treat Bumblebee more like a person or so? Sam is a weird mixed bag for me. Despite at times he does get better.
- Let me make this clear. I am aware of the situation with Megan Fox and they didn’t have time to rewrite Carly’s job...and the fact that Mikeala’s character arc is...kind of ruined when you hear she just dumped Sam and a new girlfriend comes into the picture. I do have an idea that...would’ve made more sense of her departure...but it’s fucking dark. And it would’ve been disrespectful to Megan.
- I just want to admit this. I don’t care about Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s acting. I actually really didn’t mind Carly as a character. But here’s my problem.
She is supportive, and the fact she deals with Sam. Even when he’s frustrated. She has a good reason to be upset when Sam starts working with the Autobots again because her brother in the military died. She’s a genuinely likable person. And I feel like girl...why are you with this guy? Or the fact he’s acting...rude recently. And a part of me feels like I would rather have her as the main character, which may sound strange.
I will admit, I love her scene with Megatron. I actually like that. She has some major balls doing that.
Again, I didn’t mind her character. But I was just wondering with how Sam was acting. The fact she is able to deal with him in that time...I’m talking a lot about the human characters, I know.
- I really liked the scenes with Optimus and Sentinel. But I wished there were more scenes or one more before Sentinel’s betrayal. Because it feels short and that could’ve been developed more.
- Soundwave is brilliant, despite being so underused. I do agree and wished he had some blue on him. Because I’m one of the many that feels like the Decepticons could’ve used more color. Because the silver/white thing just...he blends with others. Also, a reference to G1. Just making him blue. And there should’ve been more of him.
I remember being genuinely surprised when the Mercades transformed. Because I was literally expecting him to be an SUV like in the Dark of the Moon video game.
But I think what’s great about Soundwave is despite his short screentime. I love the fact that he’s been spying on the characters the whole time, and he was Carly’s vehicle. While not like the cassette player in G1. Soundwave as an espionage specialist is used in this, and I just wished we saw more of him. I think it’s just the idea of him working with Dylan that will always stick with me and that twist. Because I actually wasn’t expecting it. Despite Michael Bay tried so hard to keep that a secret.
- Before seeing this film again. I’ll just admit this. Patrick Dempsey’s role as Dylan Gould was the one that stood out to me the most. And I think that’s mainly because my memory of his performance seemed...more cartoonish. Yet still leaving a strong impression on me. That scene sticks with me.
My memory of Dylan as a character compared to how he was in the movie. The idea that despite he appears like a totally chill and cool boss. This guy is a big douchebag and him just fucking losing it over the course of the film. But it’s handled, more maturely than how I remembered it. More so the idea that despite he tries justifying in what he’s doing. The idea he secretly doesn’t care and likes what he’s doing. But that’s not part of the story.
But I do like him as a villain. Despite the...lore for these films is...difficult and the tie-in comics tried their best to make them work. But I think it’s maybe due to my head canons and shit in my head that made me think of his character as an even worse person. Like him being with Soundwave, and all that.
Yet I do think it’s still human, but still douchey that he tries to justify being on the “Winning side” so he can live and that he “Inherited” Soundwave. I do like the foreshadowing when he’s first introduced that he says he puts his bets on the winning side or something. It’s a small piece of dialogue. But it’s said there.
- You know, I am annoyed by the fact during behind the scenes with Wheeljack becoming Que...Que is fine...but still...
- You know, even as a kid, I am saddened we didn’t get any big stuff with Starscream later in these films. I remember being a kid and feeling like Starscream not betraying Megatron in this film was bothersome...because this would’ve been the “Last film”...but...yeah.
At least he had “Reign of Starscream” and I fucking love Charlie Alder as Starscream. He’s perfect as his voice. But even though he’s kissing Megatron’s ass to likely save his own ass. It’s still annoying we didn’t any big role for him. Which makes seeing his death...kind of annoying.
Even though I think it was badass of Sam to straight up jump onto Starscream’s face and stab a bomb into his other eye. A part of me feels like Starscream should’ve survived, but then you wonder what else would happen if they did that...I seriously feel like Starscream should’ve been seen in command more before Megatron was revived.
- Shockwave...
Listen, I love his design. But his portrayal in this film...is bothersome. It’s mainly because of the fact Shockwave is such a more “Logical” type of character. A scienist basically. Whether in the original Marvel comics he would betray Megatron because he believed it would be more logical if he was leader. Or that he was a loyal follower of Megatron who would do experiments on Autobots in Fall of Cybertron. Or even his Animated adaptation...
Shockwave acts more like a...somewhat mindless brute. I don’t mind him being as powerful as Megatron. But it’s so weird, and I remember being hyped hearing he was the main villain.
But the fact he lacks any screentime, and he acts more like a “Big CGI monster” than his own character. It also sucks this dude had a lot of promos on him. But again, it sucks. And I like his design. It would’ve been better if he was Lugnut. But then you would have to change his design and the driller worm may not be there. Yet I think Bay wouldn’t care looking into recent Transformers lore.
And yes, I’m aware of comic book tie-ins for the films. It’s still bothersome. In a way, it’s like how Lizzie was treated in Rampage 2018. But for Rampage, that worked with the story they were telling.
I’m rambling, Shockwave in this film is cool until you remember the cool shit he can do in other media. And you feel disappointed that used the most “Logical” of all the Decepticons.
- The ending...the fact the ending was changed because the studio did not want the adaptations ending the same as the movie...and Bay was pissed at the leaks. That he ordered an executive order to have no tie-ins or adaptations for the next two films...
And we got an ending that...really shows something dark with Optimus’s character. I would’ve preferred the original ending where Megatron and Optimus teamed up against Sentinel. And the fact they talked gave them more depth. Especially Megatron as a character.
I will admit, if they wanted to go with both endings in a way. Or a way that doesn’t showcase...Optimus...being so extreme. They could’ve had Megatron be the one who killed a begging Sentinel, with Optimus watches in horror at what happens. Giving Megatron something more note-worthy in the movie and giving Optimus more of a reason to kill Megatron.
But...I prefer the original ending.
- I have a lot to say. You know...this is just a fan part here...I’m still disappointed that Bay doesn’t like the Dinobots, and they weren’t in the original trilogy.
Despite the fact these films don’t take continuity seriously or try certain shit...this is a fan suggestion...
I fucking wished the Dinobots were extra Autobots that were hidden along with Sentinel, and them going against him. Or even replace the Wreckers. That doesn’t make sense. But I just feel like with the epic set pieces in Chicago. It would’ve been perfect to put the Dinobots in there wrecking shit.
But I still love the irony that two of the smallest Autobots are the ones that took down a ship...
Still would’ve loved a Dinobot charge into Chicago. But I’m reminded that I recall being disappointed that Unicron wouldn’t be the next big villain in the third film. But I think it was for the best they didn’t do that. And considering how they treated his character or...what they were going to do with him.
- Last two updates because I forgot to mention these. Simmons is funny. I’m sorry, to me, he still is. I also like Dutch too.
- Okay, this is something that’s been on my mind for a long while. Because this movie is somewhat of a loose adaptation of “The Ultimate Doom” or more so, this story was inspired by it. I tried looking up any sort of logic about this.
If Cybertron in this movie was still that close to Earth? Wouldn’t there be drastic weather changes? Such as tornados, tidal waves, and earthquakes if I recall right? Would that happen if something like that were to happen in reality?
But honestly...for some reason I would trust the cartoon much more. Because Ehren Kruger and Michael Bay sometimes don’t care about logic. Look, I’m no scientist, but I feel like there would be consequences if a planet like Cybertron was close to Earth. Yet, it wasn’t there for days or however how long. This is something that really makes me think.
- Final update, my apologies. I did question if I should talk about this. If it really mattered, because I had forgotten about it. As a Decepticon fan. I appreciate this film being a “The Decepticons Strike Back” kind of thing. The idea they almost win and using this old plan...but I think it depends on how you look at it considering the lore from the last two films.
-
I think I’ll just mention some shit I want to talk about. Watching this film, there needed to be more stuff of Optimus and Sentinel, even some more footage of the Decepticons. Including things like the Wreckers completing freeing Optimus, and the Autobots being taken prisoners. Because some of that shit is offscreen. I feel like characters like Dino/Mirage weren’t needed.
And I feel like with the parallel with Optimus & Sentinel to Sam and Dylan. I feel like to make the twist with Dylan could’ve been stronger if we got a bit more of Dylan before that. Maybe Sam could’ve accepted that job offer by Dylan. Instead of that job interview crap they were doing. Basically, take out John Malkovich’s character, yet you could retain elements of that place...and maybe when Sam is trying to get Carly out of that party and Sam decides to be rude and “Quits” which gets Dylan to stop fucking around and be honest about who he really is.
I didn’t want to change a majority of the story. Also, make Sam...less bothersome...and I feel like this dark idea I had long ago concerning Mikeala. I feel it doesn’t make sense that she just dumps him after everything they had gone through. I feel like what would’ve been better to explain her exit from the story was that a Decepticon killed her...yet I feel like that would’ve been like a middle finger to Megan. And it just feels...weird.
It’s like if you did the death of Gwen Stacy. But you only mention it.
I think I’ve rambled long enough. I have been writing this for I think nearly or well...two hours.
Edit update basically my rewrite would involve Sam and Dylan being pretty alright with each other. But after Sentinel’s betrayal, Sam is just not having it, he’s not hiding his feelings about Dylan. Which leads into that twist. Something to kind of mirror Optimus and Sentinel’s relationship. But it’s not the same.
Also, like I said on Twitter. I think Sam should’ve gotten a similar gun like Cade got in Age of Extinction. While not the same and maybe not as strong. But Sam deserved something like that after all the shit he’s been through.

Filii deorum: Lovem, Neptunum et Orcum
Warnings: None _____________________________________________________________
The entrance hall for Olympus Collage is a magnificent marvel of divine power. Lorelai stands just beyond the gates, staring tiredly at the building. The misty shadows of the nether shield the young woman as she hesitates. Starting her senior year at the prestigious school meant her godly exams draw nearer. The courtyard beyond the pearly gates is full of other students; some she recognises from last year, but others are new. Andro pulls on his lead, itching to enjoy the pleasure of pats. His tail lightly pounds against her leg, trying everything to gain her attention. The shadows of the nether grow restless as she continues to still in its clutches, wispy voices practically screaming at her to leave the safety they offer.
“You must leave my child.” A dark, gravelly voice softly calls, earning a sigh from Lorelai’s month. This was the last thing she wished to happen. But she knew the longer she stood at the threshold of the nether, the more irritated the shadows would become, and soon they would call their King. Hades places a hand on his offspring’s shoulder; the pair share a glance before another sigh leaves Lorelai’s mouth. A silent conversation pushes the young woman over the edge, and the pearly gates slam behind her, the nether vanishing.
Andro barks loudly in happiness as a young nymph scratches under his chin. The trek through the courtyard towards registration was much longer than Lorelai would have ever wished. Many nymphs and spirits have clogged up the courtyard as they swam the Thunderbolts football team. Tall, muscular, godly sons (and one godly daughter) stood in a large cluster of bodies, torsos wrapped tightly with their varsity jackets. Lorelai rolls her eyes as she catches the end of a cheesy oneliner that rolls off the tongue of Thunderbolt Captain Taylor Diaz. Andro weaves his way through the crowd, and eventually, Lorelai finds herself standing before the Fates. The three women sat on old wooden chairs, weathered by age. The Middle Fate, Present, sat slightly taller than the other two.
“Name” Drawls Past. “Dabria Lorelai Huntington” “333”
The right fate hands Lorelai an envelope and ushers her along. The Olympus college campus is small when compared to other divine schools and Olympus itself. As such, the dormitories and classrooms occupy the same buildings. After tugging Andro away from what felt like the one-hundredth person, Lorelai finally made it to her dorm. Pushing open the door, a sense of shock washed over her. Instead of the usual two-person split, Dorm 333 was split three ways. Like every other year, the room was already decorated to fit each person's taste. A sense of disgust bubbled up to the surface. While one-third of the room is the perfect mix of darkness, death and books, the other two-thirds only filled her with dread. Andro quickly broke free from Lorelai’s hold and chased his shadow around the room.
“Nix mihi vires dabit, Neptunum prolemque Iovem (Nyx give me strength, both Poseidon and Zeus's offspring)”, Lorelai spoke softly, dumping her duffle bag harshly on her denim blue comforter. Andro simply nudged his owner's leg before settling on his matching bed.
Lorelai and Andro spent the morning and most of the afternoon alone. When the oak dorm door burst open next, Lorelai was lying on her bed, nose-deep in her Underworld 101 textbook. She barely glanced up before an audible groan slipped past her lips.
Almost ignoring her, a young man with golden blonde hair waltzed across the room and gracefully placed a pile of old dusty books on the gold-glided desk. Lorelai and Andro watched silently as he paced in and out of the room, adding more old dusty books and the occasional musical instruments. After nearly an hour of watching the young man fill his section of the room from her blacked-out corner, Lorelai decided to make her presence known.
“Loquere (speak)”
Andro’s loud and happy bark fills the room, scaring the poor man half to death. His golden locks shimmed in the light as his head snapped toward the wall of darkness he had initially thought was a wall. With slow, cautious steps, he approached the void.
“Hello,” his voice wavered slightly. Moving to sit cross-legged on her bed, Lorelai eyed the man’s closer; his sweater hung loosely off his shoulders, and his jeans hugged his thighs. “Salve (Hello)” “I’m sorry, I honestly didn’t think anyone was there. Sorry but…um, but my Latin was never really that good”, his face contorted in a way that brought a small smile to Lorelai’s lips. “Do you speak English?” “Yes, You may need to brush up on your Latin before the godly exams, filius Iovis” “Arh, so you know who I am?” “I just know you are not Taylor.” The man raised his eyebrows, but before he could answer, the dorm door again burst open.
Unlike the blonde standing before Lorelai, Taylor didn’t care for books or studying. He simply strolled into the room and belly-flopped onto his sea-blue comforter. His blue varsity jacket had been tossed haphazardly on the floor. Silence filled the room as Golden Hair stood stunned, and Lorelai watched, stone-faced. As quickly as he had entered the room, Taylor Diaz shot up and stared back at his new roommates with a lopsided grin.
“Well, isn’t this just fun?” his smile didn’t seem to fade as neither Lorelai nor Golden Hair answered. “Taylor Diaz, Son of Poseidon and Thunderbolts captain.” His hand stretched out, and a stiff shake was awaiting. Golden hair answered the dark-haired boy’s request.
“Nathaniel Fox, Son of Zeus and Senior class president” Taylor tilted his head to the side and looked towards Lorelai.
“You are”
“Vis scire non (Wouldn’t you like to know)?” Lorelai answered before she returned to the textbook lying in her lap. Taylor looked towards Nathaniel as if to say do you know her name. Only for Nathaniel to shake his head.
“Great, a no-name-speaking chick is our roommate for a year”, Groaned Taylor.

Tips For Appliance Removal in Long Beach and Huntington Beach, CA
The fast-paced life of today makes the use of technology inevitable. Unfortunately, its advancement comes with certain negatives as well. One’s home may soon become a storehouse of old TVs, home appliances, mobile phones, and other digital appliances. Discarding them often becomes impossible as one’s friends and family are reluctant to use an older version. Accumulating them without any thought can soon become synonymous with hoarding unnecessary items. One of the best solutions in this regard is to think of ways and means for safe appliance removal in Long Beach and Huntington Beach, CA, that do not harm others in the neighborhood.
It always helps to think of the conventional ways first. One can thus consider the following carefully before moving to a novel way to resolve the problem:
· No Disassembly Pls- Trying to take the appliance apart to find out a component that may be useful in the future is a strict no-no. Complicated and more significant appliances are sure to contain toxic components, jeopardizing the safety of the concerned individual. It thus makes sense to remove the extra appliances in an intact condition.
· Selling or Donating- True, most young people would be reluctant to buy it or accept it as a gift because of old technology. Surprisingly, there are likely to be individuals who would cherish it, too. Thus, an interested buyer can remove it at no cost as long as it is in good condition. Donating it to charitable institutions is another way to make good use of the old appliance.
No worries! All is not lost when neither of the abovementioned ways work. It is essential to contact a company known for outstanding junk removal services nearby. They are sure to do what is necessary for a small fee without causing harm to any living being. The user will be pleased to find such a service provider for many reasons, least of all the following:
· Saving Time – A professional company will have the resources to remove the packed appliances from the premises without causing any untoward incidents. The team will be at the tour at the specified hour so that the existing appliance owner is not discomfited. They will have the right vehicle waiting to transport the appliance (s) to the designated area for proper disposal. The time spent on the task is much less than expected.
· Ensuring Safety- Trying to remove a large-sized appliance can be risky. The individual can get hurt during the process. Fortunately, the professional team has the required skills and experience to handle the items, load them into a waiting vehicle, and transport them without violating the state regulations.
The junk removal companies include multiple services that help their customers get rid of the clutter within their homes, workplaces, or construction sites. While the high-valued items are often segregated for recycling, cheap junk removal in Anaheim and Irvine, CA, is completed in compliance with the existing regulations.
