Why water damage restoration is required?
Water can cause a lot of damage if not taken care of in time. Many times, homeowners ignore the water damage that is caused due to a leaking pipe, faulty plumbing, or even a leaky roof, and this results in a lot of loss. Not just financial loss but also personal belongings get damaged due to water. It is important to repair the damage as soon as possible to minimize the loss that may be caused by water. You can either do it yourself or hire a professional service for water damage restoration.
Water damage restoration is required to repair the damage that water causes. Water damage can be caused by various reasons like clogged toilets, burst pipes, heavy rains, etc. In fact, in some cases, water damage can also be caused by a leak in the roof or a faulty appliance. Water has to settle somewhere and if it does not find an exit route it will eventually create trouble for you. Hence, when water settles in your house you need to get rid of it quickly as otherwise, it could lead to major problems.
Here are reasons why it is important to take care of water damage:
Prevents mold growth: Mold causes severe health issues and they can even destroy your property. A lot of moisture in the air due to dampness encourages the growth of mold which can spread very fast. To prevent this, you must fix all the leaks immediately so that there is no dampness in your house.
Reduces health risks: There are many health issues such as allergies, skin infections, etc that occur because of water damage and mold. You should fix any leaks immediately to prevent these problems from occurring. Also, make sure you clean up any wet areas to avoid bacteria from growing and causing diseases.
How to do water damage restoration
Have you been searching for water damage restoration near me? As water damage can be a disaster, whether it is a burst pipe or a broken household appliance. In either case, you usually don't have much time to react. Even if the water has been turned off, you should act quickly to remove the water and clean any surfaces that were exposed to water.
Following are some of the important steps that you should follow while doing water damage restoration,
Remove standing water as soon as possible
For large areas, use a wet vacuum. for small areas, use a towel or mop. make sure to wear rubber gloves and boots at all times when working with standing water
If you have a basement, check your sump pump to make sure it works properly. if not, call a professional
After removing water, dry out the area. open windows and doors and use fans to increase ventilation and speed up drying time
Remove carpeting if possible and cut away damaged drywall
If you have an insurance company, call them immediately and let them know what happened. take pictures of the damage for documentation purposes.

Questions because I'm curious! What is your 'holy grail' doll to collect? Have you ever tried making a whole doll from scratch? What's your favourite part of doll restoration? What are your favourite haunts for doll hunting? What doll collectors/restorers do you admire most? And lastly, if you could go back to any period(s?) to get a doll when it was new, what time period(s?) would you go to
Ooooh doll questions! let's go!
Holy grail doll to collect. I already have at least one of them- a late 1860s French fashion doll with an articulated wooden body. She survived the fire and I love her even more for it; her name is Leonore. A few "wouldn't be nice" dolls I don't have yet include:
Antique 18th-century English wooden doll (I have a lovely repro at the moment, Amy)
Simon and Halbig 1159 lady doll
A wax fashion doll. I lost all of mine in the fire, unfortunately
Lenci boudoir doll
Miniature china-headed doll with an articulated wooden body
A Black French fashion doll (SUPER rare, but they did exist)
2. Have I ever made a doll from scratch? Yes, out of polymer clay with jewelry headpins baked in to string her together. She was floppy and had anime eyes drawn on with Sharpie. Not the most successful experiment.
3. Favorite part of doll restoration? Cleaning. They just look so much happier after a bath!
4. Favorite doll-hunting haunts? EBay. Sadly, one doesn't come across the sort of doll I collect in the wild much anymore, though I've had some luck with French fashion doll clothes at the Brimfield Antiques Fair.
5. Admired doll collectors/restoration artists? My friend and Amy's maker, Paul Robinson. Michael Canadas and David Robinson. Kathy Libraty (also a friend- a dealer who does restoration). Illiandra Alvey (another friend). Samy Odin. Kat Davies. Bradley Justice Yarborough (a LOT of these are people I'm friends with). Linda Wall.
6. Time travelling to get a doll when new? 18th-century English wooden. Unless you get VERY lucky, they retail for like $20K right now- the pretty ones in decent condition, that is.
Or an Albert Marque doll, to sell and make like $300K off of.

FBI resisted opening probe into Trump’s role in Jan. 6 for more than a year
In the DOJ’s investigation of Jan. 6, key Justice officials also quashed an early plan for a task force focused on people in Trump’s orbit
Tumblr media
We KNEW the DOJ was avoiding investigating Trump for January 6th. According to this report by Carol D. Leonnig and Aaron C. Davis for The Washington Post, the DOJ dragged its collective feet in starting the Trump investigation--for over a year. It was not until the House Jan. 6th committee and others started to investigate Trump's involvement in the attempted coup, did the DOJ become embarrassed enough to start their own investigation.
In this regard, contrary to what certain Republicans claim, the DOJ was NOT AT ALL "weaponized" against Trump. Rather, they were trying to avoid investigating him.
Below are some excerpts from this report:
A Washington Post investigation found that more than a year would pass before prosecutors and FBI agents jointly embarked on a formal probe of actions directed from the White House to try to steal the election. Even then, the FBI stopped short of identifying the former president as a focus of that investigation. A wariness about appearing partisan, institutional caution, and clashes over how much evidence was sufficient to investigate the actions of Trump and those around him all contributed to the slow pace. Garland and the deputy attorney general, Lisa Monaco, charted a cautious course aimed at restoring public trust in the department while some prosecutors below them chafed, feeling top officials were shying away from looking at evidence of potential crimes by Trump and those close to him, The Post found.
[See more under the cut.]
[...] Whether a decision about Trump’s culpability for Jan. 6 could have come any earlier is unclear. The delays in examining that question began before Garland was even confirmed. Sherwin, senior Justice Department officials and Paul Abbate, the top deputy to FBI Director Christopher A. Wray, quashed a plan by prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office to directly investigate Trump associates for any links to the riot, deeming it premature, according to five individuals familiar with the decision. Instead, they insisted on a methodical approach — focusing first on rioters and going up the ladder. The strategy was embraced by Garland, Monaco and Wray. They remained committed to it even as evidence emerged of an organized, weeks-long effort by Trump and his advisers before Jan. 6 to pressure state leaders, Justice officials and Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of Biden’s victory. In the weeks before Jan. 6, Trump supporters boasted publicly that they had submitted fake electors on his behalf, but the Justice Department declined to investigate the matter in February 2021, The Post found. The department did not actively probe the effort for nearly a year, and the FBI did not open an investigation of the electors scheme until April 2022, about 15 months after the attack. The Justice Department’s painstaking approach to investigating Trump can be traced to Garland’s desire to turn the page from missteps, bruising attacks and allegations of partisanship in the department’s recent investigations of both Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. Inside Justice, however, some have complained that the attorney general’s determination to steer clear of any claims of political motive has chilled efforts to investigate the former president. “You couldn’t use the T word,” said one former Justice official briefed on prosecutors’ discussions. [...] “A decision was made early on to focus DOJ resources on the riot,” said one former Justice Department official familiar with the debates. “The notion of opening up on Trump and high-level political operatives was seen as fraught with peril. When Lisa and Garland came on board, they were fully onboard with that approach.” Some prosecutors even had the impression that Trump had become a taboo topic at Main Justice. Colleagues responsible for preparing briefing materials and updates for Garland and Monaco were warned to focus on foot soldiers and to avoid mentioning Trump or his close allies. [...] That fall and winter, a House committee pursuing its own investigation into Jan. 6 conducted interviews with top Trump administration officials. Privately, its chief investigator, Timothy Heaphy, a former U.S. attorney, had alerted prosecutors in the D.C. U.S. attorney’s office to a few details his team had uncovered about Trump’s pressure on Justice Department officials and Pence to block the election results, according to a person familiar with the exchanges. But eye-grabbing news accounts about the committee’s discoveries fueled public criticism that the Justice Department appeared to be lagging. [...] [Between January and February 2022 there was renewed interest in looking at the role of Trump and those close to him in the "fake elector" scheme.] One person directly familiar with the department’s new interest in the case said it felt as though the department was reacting to the House committee’s work as well as heightened media coverage and commentary. “Only after they were embarrassed did they start looking,” the person said.
This is a very long article and you will have to read the rest for yourself. But after reading this article, it now seems clear that if the Jan. 6th Committee and others had not begun to investigate Trump's involvement in the attempted coup, the DOJ would have never gotten involved.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF JAPAN by R. Hadland Davis. (London: Harrap, 1912) Thirty-two illustrations by Evelyn Paul.
This has to be one of the loveliest collections I’ve ever seen. I wish I could post all of Evelyn Paul’s exquisite illustrations but you’ll need to follow the link to see the rest. The color has been restored on those I’ve shared here to match the book’s plates. [New editions are available.]

‘Evelyn Maude Blanche Paul (1883 – 1963) was an artist best known for her book illustrations, including those replicating the style of medieval illuminations. Her work shows a variety of influences including Gothic, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts. Most significantly, the Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti has been identified as one of Paul's major influences.’ —Wikipedia

In response to your Paul rewriting history ask:
I think Paul does engage in a little bit of revisionism (not necessarily lying, but just portraying things as generally more positive than they were). But the examples you mention are wrong or misleading I think!
The biographer who said Paul won’t tell you about the Beatles history is Philip Norman, author of the book Shout! (1981). While this is a very popular Beatles bio, it is also very well known that it is biased against Paul, dismissing his contributions in order to promote John Lennon. Here’s a quote from the book: “John Lennon was three quarters of the Beatles.” Norman was so criticized for his anti-Paul bias that he actually ended up writing a bio of Paul in 2016 partly to restore his credibility as a biographer, admitting his past mistakes. So I’d take what he said about Paul in 1987 with a grain of salt.
As for Blackbird, Paul talked about writing it in response to the civil rights movement in November 1968! In private too, so there’s an extra layer of credibility since he wasn’t just saying what he thought sounded nice for an interview. I think he has given some conflicting accounts in interviews actually, but there is a recording of him mentioning the civil rights origin to Donovan in the recording sessions for Mary Hopkin’s album “Post Card.” Go to the timestamp 3:54 on this video for the clip: https://youtu.be/VLUFLxKpDCo
For “In My Life,” Paul seems to genuinely think he wrote the melody for that one and was actually frustrated with for forgetting his contribution to it (John said Paul only helped with the middle eight). He mentions his frustration about this in an “off the record” phone call with Hunter Davies in 1981 and said that it was a song that he and John disputed in the Playboy Interview in 1984. There’s no way to know who is truly misremembering (I’m inclined to think Paul wrote less of it then he remembers), but I don’t think Paul’s lying about thinking he wrote the melody. And John did the same thing, claiming he wrote most of the lyrics to Eleanor Rigby when by all other accounts he contributed a few lines. I can’t think of any other examples of songs where they significantly disagree on the authorship.
Sorry for the long response! :)
No worries thank u pal!
Love when people know what they’re talking about I just chat shit!! Good job some people do their research unlik moi
Here u go Paul fans
I will continue to say Paul is a liar bcos it is funny to ME 🧍🏼

EPICSPACE
EPICSPACE is an indie rock band. The band consists of Maris Rousseau (vocals, rhythm guitar), Cori Grey (lead guitar, backing vocals), Soren Merle (drums) and Shiloh Davies (bass). [Unnamed] left the band in 20XX. Basil Grey manages band.
The band came together during Maris's uni years after meeting Cori at a party. She introduced Maris to Soren and their unnamed original bassist. Cori's brother was part of a well-known band at the time.
In the current timeline, Maris & Co have recently parted ways with their last bassist (they have been having a hard time finding a filler ever since their original bassist left), and Basil introduces them to a bassist that he knows who is currently casually playing with a jazz/experimental group that is about to go on hiatus. Basil and Shiloh have prior history and Cori is immediately like "something's sus over here".
TECHNIQUE AND STYLE
Maris is the primary composer and songwriters, though every member has their own input and each member has written their own songs. They largely consider the process involving every member.
Cori is well known for her left-handed playing and technical skill on guitar. In earlier years, reviewers would draw comparisons between her and Basil, which she hated, lol.
BASIL GREY
Basil's old Band (Unnamed)
In his 20s, Basil was part of a well-known band as their lead guitarist. The band was very successful and well known in their industry. Eventually the group had several internal issues which caused the band to break up in his late 20s. Basil chose to go into the business side and now manages EPICSPACE as well as some other talents.
Present day (Basilica)
Basil in the meantime is making some music for himself w/o caring about the charting/success/etc and releases some music on under his alias 'Basilica'. He rarely performs in public, with the exception of a special feature with EPICSPACE
Mostly unknown to the general public, Basil also restores and customizes guitars as a hobby, and has helped Cori customize her main guitar.
INSTRUMENTS
Cori - Plays left handed
custom Ibanez miKro GRGML - customized with Basil's help. She plays on a smaller guitar because of her size, so the customized parts are all tailored to her playing style.
Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar (Left handed) - 3 Color Sunburst - This was gifted to her. Plays this for certain songs.
Maris - Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard - Aged Dark Cherry
Soren - Kit - Yamaha Custom Birch, Vater Drum Sticks
Shiloh - Fender American Original 60's Jazz Bass - Sonic Blue - He played on a different guitar with his previous band, but this what he plays on with EPICSPACE
Basil -
Fender Stratocaster in Aubergine (Modified) - the main guitar he used when playing with his previous band. It's collecting dust these days.
Ibanez Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Black - guitar he's playing with these days for his personal songs.
PAIRINGS
Soren x Maris - They have been publicly together for years and don't hide it. All of their long time fans/stans know that they're practically married. Newer fans usually don't realize that Soren and Maris are together at first because Soren is usually in the bg and his bandmates are more eye-catching.
Basil & Shiloh - They knew of each other back when Basil was more in the underground band scene, and were at the same after parties and hooked up regularly. Because Basil had his own band issues at the time and Shiloh was also tied up with other things, they never progressed to a relationship and have quite a few unfinished strings they never resolved.
Cori + Reid - Cori meets Reid at some awards event where his company is one of the major sponsors.

Founded in 1871 to raise money for their struggling college, the Fisk Jubilee Singers soon became a musical sensation. The current ensemble, here performing at a church in Nashville last June, carries on the legacy.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers’ Amazing Story, From Slavery To Stardom

A hush fell over Ryman Auditorium, Nashville’s “Mother Church of Country Music.” On the same stage where Hank Williams wailed “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and Patsy Cline wondered if she might be crazy, nine young African American singers entered from the wings, their voices blending in a mesmerizing, almost whispering rendition of the timeless slave song “Steal Away.”
“The trumpet sounds within my soul,” they sang, and you could almost hear that horn, muted and mournful. “I ain’t got long to stay here.”
On that night last fall, the Fisk Jubilee Singers—founded 151 years ago to raise money for the South’s oldest historically Black university—took hold of 2,000 hearts and, almost instantaneously, squeezed them to the point of tears.
Among the tearful was Paul Kwami, the group’s musical director for 28 years. A former Fisk University student himself, he came to Nashville after a childhood in Ghana.
“It happens sometimes,” he told me several months after that concert. “I’m crying, the singers are crying, we’re all crying.”
Now, everyone is crying again: Kwami, a legend in the preservation and performance of African American spiritual music, died unexpectedly September 10, less than a month before the group’s 151st anniversary.

On the day I sat down with Kwami last spring, we were in the Fisk Jubilee Singers’ rehearsal room in Jubilee Hall, a towered Victorian-era edifice at one end of the Fisk University campus in Nashville. The school was founded in 1866, at a time when hopes ran high that Reconstruction would bring a measure of restoration to America’s formerly enslaved people. The initial response was phenomenal: 900 students, virtually all of them recently enslaved, enrolled.
The bad news was that by 1871 the university was strapped for cash and in danger of going under. Desperate to find a new source of revenue, the school’s music professor and treasurer, George L. White, hit on a plan: He would take Fisk’s fledgling choir—then just four men and five women—on tour to raise money.
“At first the choir performed standard Western classical music,” said Kwami. “And it wasn’t going very well.”
That all changed during a church concert in Oberlin, Ohio. Performing from the balcony, the singers were dismayed to see the congregation wasn’t listening. In fact, they were walking around and talking among themselves.

“Finally,” said Kwami, “one of the singers said, ‘If they’re not going to listen to us, then let’s just sing for ourselves.’ And they did. They started singing ‘Steal Away.’”
Almost immediately, the crowd fell silent. A northern audience, it turned out, had never heard anything remotely like this.
“They thought Negro music was what they’d heard in minstrel shows,” Kwami said. “The Negro spiritual was completely new to them.”
The Fisk Jubilee Singers soon became a sensation, performing throughout the East and Upper Midwest, roughly tracing the path of the Underground Railroad. Among their most ardent admirers was Mark Twain, who grew up in the south hearing these same songs.
“I do not know when anything has so moved me as did the Jubilee Singers,” he wrote in 1873. “One must have been slave himself in order to feel what that life was and so convey the pathos of it in the music.”
During that first 18-month tour, the group raised about $40,000. But success came at great cost to the original Jubilee Singers. Due to their years traveling the country raising money to save the university, the first nine never earned degrees.
“It’s ironic,” Kwami said. “They sacrificed everything for this school. Only a few years ago were they given posthumous diplomas.”
Among Kwami’s final wishes was to see a cluster of statues outside Jubilee Hall honoring the original nine. Among them was Thomas Rutling, who was born into slavery and never knew his father. His only memory of his mother was kissing her goodbye as she was taken from him when he was just two years old.

The Singers’ 1909 U.S. tour included a stop in Lexington, Nebraska. "I would walk seven miles to hear them sing again," wrote Mark Twain, an ardent fan. History Nebraska
“Can you imagine someone living with that?” Kwami asked me, shaking his head. “And yet he gave up his education to prevent the closure of this university.”
"Legacy of Music and History"
It was a 90-degree day in Nashville, but Jeffrey Casey and Kemani Iwu arrived to chat with me at Jubilee Hall impeccably dressed in jackets and ties. The pair graduated from Fisk last spring, but respect for their choir and teacher compelled them to dress up for the occasion.
Casey plans to pursue a theater career; Iwu is exploring entertainment law. But even as they leave the school, these two decidedly 21st-century men are still inspired by the Fisk singers who came before them.
“Every time we step on a stage we're enjoying the opportunities those original singers dreamed of,” said Iwu, who is Nigerian American. “We’re branches of a tree, and that tree just keeps on growing.”

The Singers give their attention to each other during a performance at the Ryman Auditorium. Director Kwami did not conduct the group, as was his practice. “The communication is all between them,” he said.
So connected are today’s Jubilee singers to those original nine that every October 6—Fisk University calls it Jubilee Day—members of the group travel around Nashville and visit the graves of the four who are buried there.
“All they wanted was to save this university, but they ended up creating this amazing legacy of music and history," said Casey. "It’s our obligation to uphold that legacy.”
The Jubilee Singers’ first Grammy Award—for their 150th Anniversary album “Celebrating Fisk!”—has heightened interest in the group’s history and music. During Kwami’s years as director, first-time concertgoers were often surprised that he didn't conduct the group, choosing instead to rely on their mutual feel for rhythm and dynamics.

The Singers perform “Heavn Heavn” in concert at Nashville’s storied Ryman Auditorium last June.
“I don’t want to come between the singers and the audience,” he told me. “The communication is all between them.”
That leads to a unique dynamic that’s impossible to miss. The performers don’t look forward, but instead their eyes move among their fellow singers, catching each other’s glances. They smile and nod like old friends greeting each other.
“We’re watching each other to make sure we’re all on the same page,” says Casey. “But that’s not all. We’re also saying to each other, ‘I’ve got your back.’”
Virtually every stream of American popular music—rock, jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, gospel—flows back to Africa. And to a large degree, in their earliest days the Fisk Jubilee Singers were a funnel through which much of America got its first taste of the rhythms and call-and-response song structures that informed everything that was to come.
“It was always my dream,” Kwami told me, “to take this group to Africa, to bring the Negro spiritual in its polished form back to its musical roots.” In 2007, the 50th anniversary of Ghana’s independence, he did just that.

“We performed in Accra, the capital, in a full hall,” he recalled, closing his eyes as if to relive the moment. “We sang our songs. We also sang some Ghanian songs—and the audience just joined in. They couldn’t help themselves.”
But the most moving moment came, he said, when the group recorded a selection of Negro spirituals in the courtyard of Ghana’s Elmina Castle, the infamous, 17th-century depot from which enslaved people were shipped to the Americas.
Standing in the castle’s courtyard, their voices echoing against the same walls that once groaned with sobbing and rattling chains, the singers intoned a solemn rendition of “We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace,” drawn from Psalm 23. (“Though I walk through the shadow of the Valley of Death, I will fear no evil.”)
Kwami nodded softly.
“This was a circle closing,” he said. There were tears in his eyes.
