Dear college students,
I really hope that I, your spinster aunt of Tumblr, am not the first person to tell you this, but: please use your university library services. You are paying for them. They are there for you. Moreover, your professors are operating on the assumption that you will use them as necessary.
When I say "library services" I mean not only physical books that will help you with research, but the usually more extensive eBook collections ditto. Novels you've been meaning to get around to and can't afford to buy. Even (quaintly?) DVDs for your entertainment. And perhaps most significantly of all, interlibrary loan.
I'm going to reiterate interlibrary loan in its own paragraph because a student complained to me recently that publishers were "literally incentivizing piracy" by not pricing academic monographs for purchase by college students and my reaction is best summed up as: ????? Publishers typically price scholarly monographs in the pious hope of not losing money on them. Everyone complains about the ones priced at $300, and a lot of them are priced around $30-50. They are priced for purchase by libraries and specialists. And they are priced for purchase by libraries precisely so that libraries can make them accessible to college students. Anyway, use interlibrary loan, good grief.
TL;DR: the library is there for you, that is what it is for, please behave accordingly.

Ember brain rot has stuck once again
EMBERRRR MY BUDDY MY BOY MY LITTLE GUY 😭💖💖💖
I haven’t forgotten about him or brethren in a cradle, I’ve just been focused on other stuff lately, heh. Ember beloved :]
Here’s a little wip for mentioning him though <3
Four took his place back behind Warriors, and the captain couldn’t help but glance in the basket he held.
Ember was still awake, but he seemed more drowsy now, the regular movement of the basket seeming to soothe him. He noticed Warriors looking at him, and smiled, happy and content. Warriors gave him a tiny smile back, barely holding back a snort. Quite the difference in mood from this morning, hm?
He shook himself and focused back on the woods around them, listening intently through the rain for any threats, but couldn’t help peering back at Ember now and again. Every time he did, Ember spotted him and smiled, and Warriors couldn’t help but smile back.
Ember usually giggled and looked away, snuggling into his blanket as Warriors looked back at the route ahead, and they continued this for a while, Ember still smiley as ever.

Hey y'all! I am once again in health insurance hell, and could really use some help. I have a specific US health insurance question, but it might get long so it's below a read more
My employer offers two health plan options, and they are both absolutely terrible. I want to get my own health insurance, but the insurance broker lady I used when I worked part time says I can't, because I can get health insurance through my employer, even if I opt out. I spoke to another health insurance person today, and she said if I get a letter on company letterhead saying I'll lose health insurance on [date], as long as it's 60 days or less from now, it counts as a qualifying event and I can buy my own health insurance. She said opting out counted as losing health insurance. Do you know anything about this? How do I get health insurance as an individual NOT through my employer even though my employer offers it? The plans my employer is offering are Aetna, and Aetna is the absolute worst and I despise them as a company so much one of my long term goals is to warn people against them. They suck! They refused to pay for my inhaler until I got my doctor to fill out a form like three times, and also I had to email them A LOT and fill out a LOT of surveys with an emphasis on how horrifying I found it that they as a company clearly valued profit over their customer's lives, and would in fact prefer their customers die before they could reach the ER in case of an emergency, as evidenced by their refusing to pay for my rescue inhaler, a necessary life-saving medication. They also require I fill that form out every year, just in case I magically stop being in the small minority of people who get severe adverse reactions to albuterol and levalbuterol

I'm 99.9% sure that my teacher doesn't read emails before responding... I'm getting sass for shit I didn't even say or forget to do 😭
#i sent in my cpr online course completion on Friday bec she said we'd get 5 extra credit points if we did it by Monday's class#so during class she was going through and some people were confused on how to get the certificate...#which confused me bec i thought we were just to screenshot our account screen where it says completed#but apparently there was an exit survey in order to get the Official Certificate / paper document#so i quickly did that and sent a correction email under my original with the certificate attached as a pdf#then 2 hours later she emails me saying she needs the certificate & 'did u hear when the students were explaining how to get certificates?'#'you must complete the survey first'#😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 bitch i literally attached it after saying I wasn't originally aware of the survey 😭#so i had to write an email tiptoing around how i did in fact hear and complete it / literally sent it in but yeah sorry if it didn't upload#ill just reinsert a new download / pls notify me if it still doesnt open for me ill upload it to my Google drive instead 🫠🫠🫠#im 100% sure she got it the first time#shes so quick to sound condescending or as if you're not paying attention#she doesn't listen before speaking either in person#she started to reprimand my classmate while she was trying to take my blood pressure bec i wasnt holding the little clock thing in view/#my classmate was holding the stethoscope in a way the instructor didnt like ig so she was redirecting us before she realized#that my classmate was still stuck trying to find my pusle and not actively pumping or watching for numbers#then she apologized and walked away but?!?!

idk chief i hate when people are too enamoured with their vision of what the sex industry could be like in their perfect utopia to see the present reality of it. we live in a society where every industry is inherently exploitative. add sex to that and you get... sexual exploitation. now add far less oversight and regulation, more gender inequality and a far more vulnerable population for good measure.
you can't just look at the few people who found secure positions that they found preferable to other forms of exploitation. it's like, when we talk about other industries we focus on the practical exploitation that occurs + the systems of oppression that fuels it.
but as soon as it comes to the sex industry it's suddenly just an idea. and i have seen with my own eyes people willing to dismiss the negative experiences of trafficking survivors and survival SWs right to their faces in defense of that idea. the same people that insist sex work is just like any other work and the sex industry is just like any other industry never actually apply the same standards to them as other work and other industries??

You know those customer satisfaction surveys that enter you into a contest? Well, I just did one that ended weirdly.
It became a “pick one of the two words that best describes you”. Which, ok, nosey, but at first at least the questions were opposites where you could make a choice. Then it started drifting into character traits with no connection to each other.
Are you “logical” or “kind”? Pick one!
I don’t give a damn about giving them correct info on this (after singing the praises of the employees, of course) but suppose the answer actually mattered?

Hey y’all! I hadn’t mentioned it by name because I wasn’t sure if it was regional or not, but I found out it’s not regional so: Aetna is the worst insurance company. It sucks! Avoid it if you can. All my insurance issues have been because of Aetna. Aetna refuses to pay for my maintenance inhaler or my rescue inhaler, and refused to pay for a holter monitor for me when I’ve had tachycardia issues for a full decade. A heart monitor my doctor ordered to check if I had major electrical issues because if I did I’d need a pacemaker to prevent severe cardiac complications (I don’t have those issues, for the record).
