Would penguins be considered kosher?

Obviously, they’re not in the list of non-kosher birds, but they give off a less-than-kosher vibe.

What about other flightless birds? I don’t know much about ostriches and emus, but they seem like birds that would be considered dores (I would personally include the ability to bludgeon other creatures to death as something that feels decidedly non-kosher).

Back on penguins, are they closer to other swimming kosher birds (e.g ducks) or other flightless non-kosher birds?

I haven’t seen it specifically mentioned, but I can feel it in my bones that more than one rabbi has devoted a significant amount of time and energy into this topic

No, penguins are not kosher.

Why?

Well, first we understand which birds are kosher by which birds aren't on the list of non-kosher birds in the Tanakh, which are:

-Eagle

-Vulture

-Black vulture

-Kite

-All falcons

-All ravens

-Ostrich

-Nighthawk

-Seagull

-All hawks

-Little owl

-Cormorant

-Great owl

-White owl

-Pelican

-Bustard

-Storks

-All herons

-Hoopoe

-Bat (yes a bat isn't scientifically a bird but the word used in the Tanakh is "הָע֔וֹף", which technically translates as "those who fly")

The Mishnah elaborates that a kosher bird is one that:

-Is not a bird-of-prey

-Has an extra/elongated toe

-Has a crop

-Has a "peelable" gizzard (has a layer of skin in the gizzard that can be peeled by hand)

-Doesn't split its toes when standing on a string (doesn't put two in front and two behind) (like how a parrot perches, so parrots aren't kosher)

Additionally, in practice, which birds are kosher are those that have a Mesorah (tradition) of being kosher. So, kosher birds are generally those in the Phasianidae family (although the Mesorah of eating peafowl has been shaky, so generally most Jews won't eat peafowl), the Anatidae family, and the Columbidae family. Most commonly eaten birds today are: Chicken, Turkey, Goose, Duck, Pigeon, Quail, and Pheasant. Turkeys are kosher even though they are flightless New World birds with no Mesorah because they've attempted to mate with chickens and are similar enough to other pheasant-like birds, and because they meet the qualifications of a kosher bird. Although still, some Jews won't eat turkeys. The Shulchan Aruch also established that if a bird has a long-standing Mesorah of being kosher, then even if it's missing one qualification, it's still kosher .(geese don't have crops, for example).

So, penguins aren't kosher because:

-They hunt

-They have a really tiny hallux

-They don't have a crop

-There's absolutely no Mesorah of them being kosher and they're in no way similar to kosher birds

And as for ostriches, they're already in the list of non-kosher birds.

Now, if you really want to have a debate, talk to your fellow students and Rabbi about why turkeys are/aren't considered kosher because hoo boy is it a debate starter haha

hi random person visiting thru one of ur posts. i also have evil hell dandruff and i found coal tar shampoo is basically perfect for helping to keep down the flaking :) unfortunately the itching wont go all the way away tho :(

Oh yeah for sure, I actually have like 6 bars of coal tar soap, plus coal tar shampoo, plus Neutrogena acid free face wash (it has salicylic acid), plus normal shower stuff. I am in itch and drift hell. Basically the only time I don't itch is straight after a shower, but if I just tousle my hair a little bit it's a snow drift and feels Terrible

(For those unaware, salicylic acid is a skin product that helps dead skin strip off easier and acts like a mild antibacterial, usually used for acne or, if you watch hoof gp videos, the powdered form is used to allow dead skin to separate and keep exposed live skin from getting infected. In the case of dandruff, all it does is help make the top layer of dandruff easier to remove. Coal tar extract and coal tar, however, actually inhibits skin growth specifically, preventing dandruff and such caused by shedding excess overgrown skin like in psoriasis. Another option for who's issue is eczema instead of psoriasis and normal causes is products containing Colloidal Oatmeal, since eczema involves try skin that cracks and needs moisturizing and soothing, rather than scales of dead skin that are easily peelable. Usually dandruff shampoos have neither, such as head and shoulders which has pyrithione zinc in normal products, and usually selenium sulfide in stronger products aimed at fungal issues that cause dandruff. If you suffer from untreatable dandruff, explore your options on potential causes, and try different active chemicals that attack different sources of the issue)

Game Designer s/o- Black Seastone: Shedding

Next part for Black Seastone section. You already know what's going to happen for this particular headcanon. Sun Wukong will get his human form back in the second to next part if you are wondering. As for Hank, you'll find out soon. This can be read gender neutral or preferred gender. Enjoy.

You knew that at some point in time animals would shed their fur, molt or things like that. A thing that tends to happen when they're getting bigger and getting old. You weren't an expert on this.

Apparently this counted for Great Apes alongside Hank. Why? Cause you began to notice bits of red fur, fish scales and pale spikes on the house floor. Also caught Hank scratching his flaky fish hide against the table. Gross.

For the MerGrunt shedding, only possible answer being whatever those people did when they transformed Hank. Fish usually shed their scales if badly injured or something. Then again, he is practically the Frankenstein of injuries.

Anyway, something needed to done. So you end up buying some industrial brushes, lotion and whatever you think could help. Sun Wukong and Hank were getting groomed, no exceptions.

Between the two men, it was the MerGrunt that have been the most reluctant to the grooming thing. From what Hank had told (signed) he has never experienced any positive contact for a very long time. You promised that the whole session with him could be done bit by bit if he wants.

Hank decided to brave it. Sun Wukong was first since the pool has to be cleaned out again. You used a water hose with a power nozzle and the biggest plastic pool you had. Monkey King wasn't so happy getting sprayed much less having a large broom brush his soapy fur.

He was practically drenched until he got the leaf blower treatment. Sun Wukong went from a Great Ape to a giant poofy red furball that had Hank laughing his ass off. You handed him the the oversized comb since the Mergrunt is next.

The lotion being for Hank's Grunt half as he had been itching and it would help make his scars fade a bit. As for the fish half, apparently some snake been added to the concoction than just an Atlantic Fish. The scales being peelable with a scarless layer underneath.

In short, you had to help peel it off since there wasn't enough snake to allow Hank to properly shed. Man, the A.A.H.W from his world were a bunch of cruel dicks. Boy is it awkward to peel a mixture of snake like fish skin off the 18 ft Mer.

Hank was flailing from how frayed his sensitivity became as he tries to bite something. You had just peeled off the last bit of shed skin only to catch his teeth in your arm. Holy fuck!

Sun Wukong was about to throttle the mer if you didn't stop him. Hank bit hard enough to bleed but thankfully it wasn't too bad. Still going to bruise though.

Didn't help that he began to lap up the blood with his huge ass tongue. You didn't notice the Monkey King's tail wag irritatedly before you pried Hank off. Thank god there's no need for stitches.

Once the bite had been treated, you thought that you could finally relax. Especially since any shed fur or scales weren't much of a nuisance now. Until Sun Wukong decided to nip your other arm. Asshole!

Not only did he bite hard enough to draw blood but also lapped up the blood before running. Practically cursing up a storm as you had to treat another bite. If a small loud speaker was put in the Monkey King's nest and blasted the Monster Inc theme while he's asleep... Serves him right.

Jealousy! Let this be known that biting is a definite between these two. I imagine that Grunts court in very strange ways with it all starting with a simple bite. Sun Wukong is the type to be quite possessive as well so Hank biting someone he plans to court marks him as competition. Whether said bite is accidental or not.

As for the whole grooming thing, I had to look up a lot of stuff instead of charging head on. Hank has a bit of sea snake in his scrambled DNA. A.A.H.W were practically a bunch of mad scientists and wanted to give the assassin a very miserable existence. Slow painful death deal.

I do think however that since time spent healing is a factor when it comes to scars, that the scars left behind by Julieta's healing are very minimal if at all existent if she immediately tends to the injured area.

- How capable Julieta is of healing a burn depends on the severity (I think that applies to most of these injuries but is worth looking into further with burns since there exists an official scale of how to measure their severity). A 1st degree burn would most likely heal with no problem since it is a burn of the top layer of skin, which is capable of fully growing back with little scarring. A 2nd degree burn would heal and most likely leave scars, since the 2nd layer of skin does not heal as seamlessly. A 3rd degree burn would most definitely leave behind scars as Julieta's food would heal and repair to the capability of the human body and the hypodermis, third layer and below, does not repair itself as easy as the top 2 layers of skin.
