Having just finished Episode 8 (so spoilers, obviously, below the picture) can confirm:

Perfect. Casting. Charlie needed to nail the moment of betrayal to convince me he was perfect for Luke, the same way Walker, Leah, and Aryan (and really everyone) have convinced me they are perfect for their roles, and he surpassed my expectations.

The pained way he genuinely wanted Percy to help, the look of panic when Annabeth revealed herself and he realized she felt betrayed too, everything about that scene was perfect.

And obviously credit to Walker too for the breaking in his voice as he realizes the truth, but gods this cast is PERFECTION.

Now hurry up and confirm S2, Disney. I need more of this perfection in my life.

watching percy try to call his father sir only to have poseidon call bullshit immediately, after having spent the entire show actively refusing to be respectful to any deity shape or form is so funny to me like no poseidon, obedience does not come naturally to your son

he made a personal enemy out of both gods of war and read the literal king of olympus to filth on his daddy issues causing all three of them to individually try and kill him, all on his first quest like come on now 😭

Throughout the series. We get small hints that Luke has a “complicated” relationship with Hermes.

But we also see Percy, who’s frequently discontent with Poseidon (and very vocal about it) so, if anything, we assume that Luke’s feelings are somewhat of the same.

But then we get to episode 8 and see how Luke reacts to Percy even mentioning Hermes.

Look at the way Luke’s expression changes the second that Percy starts talking about Hermes. The disgust in the sneer that’s pulled onto his face is absolutely palpable.

Then the way he cuts Percy off immediately by going on the offensive.

And the ferocity in that two-handed swing. He put his full upper-body into that swing.

Though his monologue while trying to recruit Percy explained the way he felt about the gods in general, this one small fraction of a second showed how his feelings for his dad got him to this point.
