Alina had always been content to live her life in the village of Keramzin – a provincial village still beholden to the paganistic ways of old – and hopefully catch the eye of a certain Malyen Orstev who unfortunately for her is more popular than she’d like. Her chance comes the Eve of the Midsummer festival when she has the opportunity to find the Fern Flower, a mythical flower that is fabled to bring prosperity and happiness to whoever is trying to find true love. However there are other forces at work in the village – namely, the brutal attacks that have left the victims drained of all blood, and the mysterious castle that sits perched on the cliffs overlooking the village. With tensions running higher and higher in Keramzin the more attacks there are, the village elders are forced to make a choice during the festival that will upend Alina’s life and force her to face who she is and what she really wants.
