welcome to the nonsensical-pixels blog: inconsistent previews since est. 2022!

have you ever gotten frustrated by the lack of desert-appropriate clothing out there? maybe you just want your sims to wear anything other than long knitted cardigans in hot weather. or hey, maybe you just like the vibes that come with the strangerville game pack and want them for ts2. well look no further, my strangerville collection is here!

started working on this set at the start of the month, while i was still playing strangertown (rip) but left it to cool for awhile while i went off to play some other custom 'hoods. well, until i started playing natosi by @oceansmotion recently and was in desperate need of more desert clothing, so i decided to resurrect this old project!

there are 6 clothing items included: 2 for adult females, 2 for adult males, and 2 for unisex kids! 🥳 age conversions are welcome!

i know that the original ts4 game pack isn't everyone's cup of tea--personally, it was my favourite--but the clothing sure looks great for ts2! again... at least in my opinion. i hope your desert-dwelling sims enjoy these new cas items--and the 'lil bonus i included!

oh, and because i struggled a lot finding a good backdrop for my previews... have a bonus download! i cloned & edited one of honeywell's easy peasy backdrops to remove the props, and changed up the uv map slightly. then i made random sims 4 themed desert recolors using night cafe! there are 4 swatches in total.

credits go to honeywell for the original mesh & night cafe for the backdrop swatches!

i hope everyone enjoys the items in this download! i worked really hard on them and i can't wait to use them more in my own game! i'm also really proud of my new preview lot haha, i love my new backdrops 📷

Campbell Academy

Right, time for my confession. I did not come up with the floor plan or general design of the building. I usually suck at building and I don't like looking at official floorplans.

But I've recently discovered @anibats's Tumblr and YouTube channel, and her content is STUNNING. From the CC she uses to the machinima she makes, it's all so pretty!

I would highly recommend watching her The Vicious series she made - I won't lie, it made me bawl my eyes out, it was so tender and realistic.

I thrive off realism in both my series and playing the game itself. She opened my eyes to a few more mods and ways of playing a school without having to necessarily use Simlogical items.

And she also had some neat ideas for fixing crashing in game, and I must say, the fix that her partner did seems to be working in my game! 😀😘

I'm certain this is on your blog somewhere but I don't know where to look. Did you abandon strangertown? I was just reading through it and saw the last post was in January and you were playing a different strangetown now. Understandable if so, tho I'm sad not to know what the collusion is.

I actually haven't addressed it, but I'm happy to answer your question.

It's not abandoned, necessarily. I still have the save file and all backups. I've just set it aside, for the moment.

Strangertown is big and (slight spoiler) will be getting bigger at the end of the current round. The way I typically play a neighborhood, I go through each family and play them for 2-3 days at a time, but Strangertown works different, in part because of the size, and in part because of the focus on more outlandish and interwoven stories. There's a lot of planning that goes into how to play a round of Strangertown. There's more posed scenes. All of this together makes it difficult for Strangertown to hold my attention at this current moment in time.

I'm having a lot more fun with the game currently hopping around between a bunch of different neighborhoods and just playing, for the most part (I can't entirely help myself when it comes to creating a story with posed scenes, but it's nowhere near the same scale). I've got a lot of stress in my life, so I'm just trying to do what is most enjoyable for the time being when I have a brief moment to play. I had a leave of absence from work last month due to health issues, which allowed me to play a lot more, but I'm back at work now and just moved to a new apartment. Money's a bit tight because of the leave (disability payments used the quarter where I wasn't working full-time, so I did not get a lot of financial assistance), the holidays, and moving. There's still so much to do to get settled in the new place. I've been trying to play through 3 days of the Chao-Townsend family for the past couple weeks and I'm only through 2 days XD None of this is meant to imply that I feel you were pressuring me in any way. I'm not making an excuse, because none was called for, I'm just musing about where I'm at with life and the game. I suppose I'm venting, really. I feel quite scattered in real life, and it impacts my attention span in the Sims.

I should say that things have improved in the last week or so because I've been getting more serious about finding a good balance for myself and I'm planning on doing a lot with stress management in 2023. If any of you have tips or resources you can point me to, I'd welcome them.

Returning to the original point, I want to see Strangertown's story continue and maybe even come to a conclusion (though what that would look like, I'm unsure), so I do believe it will return one day! I'm very glad to hear people are still entertained by it!

project updates:

handheld-based downtown/subhood has almost all lots (not adding paradise place cemetery or the ds town square, this is an intentional choice) and sims in strangertown and strangeytown releases (though since i actually downloaded all of the lots and sims before the hood releases a few of the lots i downloaded are... outdated... and one can’t actually be replaced and i don’t wanna muck with it so i’m just gonna try making the same changes myself) ... just need to add the bios and memories then i can start testing...

... if that goes well enough ill make another version with mesa gallery and sunset canyon sims (twirling hair) ...

not the other strangetown console sims though since i already have a project that’ll include them (+strangerville sims) that’s nearly finished and i just need to build one last custom lot iirc (but admittedly im starting to be tempted by the prospect of starting over with a different base...)

a few years ago i started on a custom subhood of teen versions of lft playables with parents (and some siblings) which i think i finally finished editing the memories on and could probably start testing soon? yayy

still have not done much with curioustowne project but :P im trying to learn more stuff with these other projects before working on that extensively

... and a dopeness subhood to easily add her to any hood im playing with because (shrugs) i can? this ones just for me though since i cant imagine anyone else in the world would want dopeness in their homes

Update and other things

Hi yeah it’s me coming back after almost half a year? maybe longer? of not posting things. Life got crazy (and still is) so i didn’t had the time or energy to do something with this blog. and even now i will maybe post once in a while. Under the cut i will talk more about some chances and stuff!

Name change i changed my name to retro-plumbob because i didn’t really like my old name but didn’t know anything better at the time. So now retro-plumbob it is! New Blogs I am playing around with some new blog ideas. Even an legacy blog. But those wont be active and ready for a while until i finished my own perfect savefile. New Savefile Like i said i am working on my own perfect savefile. This savefile will include lots of my sims 2 to sims 4 builds and families. But also sims from games as The sims 1, Urbz sims in the city (handheld and console versions) and other old sims games, some townie make-overs but also some own made families and builds. I started this file because i wanted to give myself a bit more freedom and figure out my styles in sims (cas, building etc) and the projects that i was working on restricted me in that. The sims 2 to Sims 4 projects Well it is kind of abandoned right now. I am not sure if i will ever finish it or even work on it. But for now the file just chilling between my other savefiles untouched. Like i mentioned before i noticed that instead of enjoying making it i got frustrated with it. And that was not my goal with this file. I will make an willow creek to pleasantview save file and an strangerville to strangertown playfile so people can still play those two since those were finished anyway. Also some of the families and builds i made for this file will be put online for you to easy download if you want them. As for all the other things i made for that file. Some i will re-use in my own savefile some will not. This includes both builds and families i made. What will the blog post now? Well i will still remake stuff from older games of course, some ts4 townie make-overs, look books and edited screenshots. But also more personal stuff like own made families and builds that aren’t form older games. And maybe if i find the time for it i will create small one neighborhood savefiles Also on a small note edited screenshots will mostly use cc. But if i make things to share with y’all i will do my best to make it cc free or light cc!

I saw you're using story progression in your legacy hood - how are you finding it?

Quick disclaimer that the version of story progression I'm using probably isn't the latest one, the pictures I've been posting were all taken at least a year ago xD

But I like it! It's definitely encouraging a different style of gameplay than I'm used to, for example I always forget if I send a sim to a community lot time will have automatically passed when they get back. Very different to how mods like Community Time handles things, I definitely wouldn't use it for something like a BACC where I want to have more control over everything...

I think for legacies though, it's really good? Gives more of a sims 3 style feeling of the town actually progressing. I will say tho, I've bveen a bit dissapointed at how few "pseudo playables" actually have married or had kids so far, perhaps I need to have more of those "playables" set up instead of just a massive townie pool? I think story progression doesn't really do much for townies, and I only have a small handful of playables set up for story progression right now.

The ideal way to play with it would probably be to have a large town set up with other actual "playables" with their own homes and everyhting so that you could actually visit them, similar to how Sims 3 has neighbourhoods set up? The "visit other sims" feature is super cool but going a bit under-used in my legacy since I can't really be bothered to decorate houses for those sims I just made "playable" to experiment with story progression and don't plan on actually playing... I imagine down the line it would be amazing for keeping spares and the legacy "branch families" feeling more relevant???

I'd be really interested to try out the mod with a large hood like Belladonna Cove, @danies-simsational-blog's Sunset Valley or @chrisnewbie's Strangertown? I've even considered trying it out with my uberhood since that thing is a bit of a monster, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to relinquish control over the hood to that extent... trying it for a future Robin River spin off would also be really interesting, too???

I definitely reccommend trying it to see how you like it before installing it with any neighbourhoods you're already attached to, but its fun! really gets you playing TS2 in a new sort of way :D

TS4 World Tag Game: List Your Top 5 Favorite Sim Worlds

1. Windenburg

It’s just pretty. I love the European vibe with the half-timbered architecture. It has the cutest park and playground for kids, and the café is my contemporary Sims’ favorite hangout.

2. Willow Creek

It’s big and busy, with room for many neighbors and community lots. It’s a vanilla neighborhood, yes, but almost any style fits there.

3. Oasis Springs

I play here when I’m tired of dealing with snow, lol. The desert landscape is gorgeous and complements Spanish architecture or modern builds.

4. Sulani

I love the addition of the Polynesian-like culture. Too often the Sims’ personalities seem so flat, so the addition of some cultural differences introduces a little variety.

5. San Myshuno

The city life is vibrant and full of drama, and I love the concept of apartments — even though I don’t think they’re done particularly well in The Sims 4 (why so BIG?).

So I’m dull when it comes to choosing a setting. I don’t use the vacation worlds much, and I’m not particularly into vampires or the Strangertown weirdness. I just like a pretty backdrop. ;)

Kent: Well Father, thanks for letting me come here… I'll really try too hard with my studies!

Upon entering the institute, Kent saw that most of them were in the courtyard, so he decided to go over there, obviously drawing everyone's attention, especially Bianca, who ran out to meet him.

Bianca: KENT, YOU DID IT!! You finally came!! Now we can be together!!

Kent: Hi Bianca! It wasn't really easy at all to convince my father and my sisters to let me come, my brother-in-law Albany had to help me with everything!

Eddie had become good friends with Max too quickly, that just impressed Irene

At one part of the park games, Ulysses was trying to get information about Bianca from Desiree.Desiree: And she likes to watch "North Park", her favorite food is Burgers and she really likes soccer.

Ulysses: Wow, Bianca and I have several things in common, do you think you could tell him about me?

Desiree: we live together duh, I recommend you come with us to see a movie that Bianca brought!

Kent was looking at all the other boys, especially Monique, who was talking to Irene and Simon, so he decided to approach her.

Silver Rocket Service Station

I had fun redesigning this lot, but I didn’t want it too different from the original. I liked the idea of having parked up RVs next to the service station and the majority of them are hood décor. 

I have now completed playing Sims 2 PSP and I loved it (even if the Kine Society was BONKERS!) Special thanks to @pixeldolly and @illenlan for their help with getting me set up with an emulator for the first time! 

I am loving this sky for Strangertown (and yes the locals will call it Strangertown in the story! 🤣)

Hiya! For the story asks, 8, 12, 26, and 31 - I know you have several stories and I'm not sure which one you'd like to answer about, so feel free to choose that yourself!

8. What about your story are you proud of?

I’m proud of the reactions that my stories cause. The example that comes to mind is the scene between Circe and Vidcund. That scene had a lot of people worried and/or facepalming, and I’m proud that I can entertain people that way. I hope my stories are often that entertaining for my followers.

12. Do you actually play the game or do you just use it as a storytelling medium?

I actually play the game, and my gameplay becomes part of the storytelling. It does vary based on the neighborhood, though. Strangertown has a heavier emphasis on pure storytelling, whereas Nekojima is closer to gameplay that's dressed up as storytelling. Beyond just what I post, I also play neighborhoods that are mine. There's still quite a bit of intervention to push certain narratives on my sims, however. I can't help it! I want to tell stories with the game, and sometimes gameplay needs to be supplemented with my own chaos energy.

26. Have other sim stories inspired you?

Yes, absolutely! Stories (and headcanons) by @holleyberry, @nappe-plays-the-sims, @strangetomato, @yakumtsaki, @pixeldolly, @simstralia, @katatty, @arielovessims, and @mdpthatsme have all inspired me (and that's barely brushing the surface of my inspirations).

31. Drop some random trivia about your story.

There have been several times where my plans for couples were ruined because I use the mod that makes acceptance of proposals more random (based on various factors). The most notable example is Romeo and Juliette, but I also believed that Tanner in Sedona would end up with one of the girls, since they were both all over him, but rejections all over the place! I love having this mod in. It shakes things up.
