It's always been sort of weird how Young Xehanort is such an unapologetic little asshole the whole time he's time traveling, mocking Sora about his inevitable demise to the last moment as he fades away (while even Xemnas and Ansem get moments of humanity before their deaths). It's notably different from how he comes off in KHDR, where he can be sassy with Eraqus sometimes but is mostly just cool and aloof—more like he's a bit withdrawn than anything else.
The scene that I think connects these different aspects of his personality is his meeting with the Master of Masters, which we see in both Re:Mind and KHDR. Xehanort is playing it cool, but he's also letting a bit of his true feelings shine through: he doesn't quite want to agree with MoM about the idea that there's two types of people—the strong and the weak. He's thinking about the world with nuance.
Tumblr media
"And even if I was either type, it doesn't mean that I carry those dark intentions." But then MoM reminds him of his own history with darkness—"Is that what your experience tells you?" That's what MoM seems to be best at—planting a seed of doubt and letting it grow on its own.
And it does. YX goes out and sees the world and become convinced of the conclusion MoM was leading him towards. And when he returns, MoM tells him exactly what he wants to hear: that he's the one who has the power to make a difference. That he's destined for greatness. Xehanort believes, deeply and truly, that he is the child of destiny. He's the chosen one. And if that means he has the power to prevent what happened in Scala from ever happening again, wouldn't he want that?
Tumblr media
And extrapolating, I think we can tell that Master Xehanort, his future self, uses the same tactic, appealing to his own sense of exceptionalism. He brings Young Xehanort to the future and tells him that he will fulfill his destiny, everything is set in motion, and he just needs to play his role. "That is my destiny, but it has yet to become a reality." Young Xehanort sees the future and wants to believe so badly that it's the destiny he wants. And how could it not be? It's him.
In KH3, the YX moment that sticks out to me the most is this incredibly odd exchange in the iconic Toy Box scene. YX is his usual villainous self, mocking and monologuing, and then Sora rushes at him and he says this:
Tumblr media
And it doesn't sound sinister. It's not a taunt or jeer. He says it hushed and almost hurried, as if afraid someone is listening.
Which could be true. Young Xehanort, weirdly, holds a piece of Master Xehanort's heart in him, doesn't he? I think it got buried in interviews, but recall the YX boss fight at the end of DDD. The reason Mickey reacts the way he does to YX moving during stopped time is because he recognizes that isn't Young Xehanort— it's Master Xehanort, briefly inhabiting YX as a vessel.
Tumblr media
He's become a puppet of his future self, an extremely literal self-fulfilling prophecy. It leaves Woody calling Xehanort "hollower than any toy" in the earlier scene ring incredibly different. Did he want any of this? Did he even have a choice?
We still don't know exactly when YX time travels from, but it's got to be fresh off of the events of KHDR. Especially since his dialogue with MoM, which happens one year post-KHDR, seems to imply it's happened already at that point. I wonder if his old classmate rubbed off on him in some way—the theatrics, the boasting and posturing. But that's what it is—he's playing a role. It's the hand he's been dealt. It's all he has. (Which leads me back to thinking about Xehanort & Xion parallels, Xion as the 14th organization member, Xehanort saying "no, wait—fourteen lives", Xion saying "this puppet will have to play her part"...and, interestingly, YX and Xion being next to each other in the Real Organization's hierarchy: YX as no. 12, Xion as no. 13. The lowest among their ranks. The least worthy of respect.)

I desperately want to know what Luxu’s relationship with attachment is. Does he still make them? What is his relationship with loss? Does he grieve the generations of friends that have come and gone? Or are the numbers so many that it’s ceased to have meaning? Kingdom Hearts is all about our attachments and the power of them and then we have this character who has lived an untold number of lives, loving and losing and letting go, tasked solely with observation. In observing he puts himself right in the middle of it. Has he grown weary of it?
I think often about his friendship with Eraqus. By the time Birth By Sleep comes around does it mean anything to him, to have played a part in his death?
I think about his relationship with young Xehanort, with apprentice Xehanort, with Xemnas. What does it feel like to have this relationship that spans decades where for once he is not the only one whose form keeps changing?
I think about his relationship with being a nobody. Is it nice, to be separated from a heart that carries generations worth of pain?
I think about Xemnas’ death scene in KH3 a lot. I think about “the emptiness where my companions once stood.” How that loneliness is Xehanort’s losses, Terra’s losses, and Xemnas’ own. I think of “it must take incredible strength”. Everyone who has ever lived knows the truth in the weight of those words. And then I think of how this too reflects on Luxu who has lived so many lives.
What does a heart look like, after all of that?

nodnod true he is his own person. i think it'd be funny if he didn't count tho just bc sora is like 'uhhhh he's literally me' and the landlord is just too tired for this bs and just goes "yeah sure kid whatever just pay rent on time"
love the idea of the 3 of them as roomies tho its so silly. i think i'd be funny if the rest of the sea salt trio like. lived nearby and so it was a 50/50 chance whether roxas is either at the sora-ventus household or the axel-xion household. he's like a kid with shared custody <3
i love the idea that everyone just got isekai'd to basically real-world tokyo and now is just trying to figure out wtf is going on. and everyone is just ignoring the whole part of them being isekai'd. minus riku who is constantly like 'wtf is going on????' i guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think roxas would absolutely switch between households to avoid saix whenever he does something wrong and they have to make a rule that youre not allowed to bail in the middle of an argument. anyways yeah youre so right riku being the least straight straight man ever would be the funniest shit.
Tumblr media
bonus doodle of youre first idea, i think its funnier if sora deadass forgot and said 'nope its just me' and then realized after that he both a: forgot and b: its very rude

The inspiration gathered from LOZ as a series for KH is pretty neat once you start noticing it. I like KH a lot better (esp the writing) but a lot of LOZ concepts are really cool so I’m glad to see them inspiring a series I hold even closer to my heart.

"They can take your world. They can take your heart. Cut you loose from all you know. But if it's your fate...then every step forward will always be a step closer to home." -Opening lines of KH3 If there is one word to describe the theme of KH3 to me, it would be loss. At every turn, every world’s story touches on that theme in some way. Whether the potential loss of a loved one, the loss of a loved one’s presence, the actual loss of a loved one, or the aftermath of loss, it’s repeatedly there. Over and over Sora is faced with the possibility and the reality of loss. He’s faced separation before, starting with KH1. So what’s different now?
He’s growing up. As every kid experiences, he’s finding that he’s not the center of his world and his eyes are being opened to the reality of his world. Perhaps it’s safe to say that KH, is a story about growing up.
We see his awakening of sorts, start in DDD. He faces Roxas, inviting connection, as Sora tends to do. There Roxas shows Sora his heart and experiences. It is agony for Sora, despite accepting it. His eyes are opened to the reality of the world around him. It’s this discovery that pushes him forward, pulling him into darkness’s depths. In a way, it was too much, at least at first. After he awakens he goes away to meet up with his Dream Eaters, a way to cope and unwind after his experiences.
While it’s unclear exactly what Sora remembers of his ordeal, he mentions meeting Roxas, showing that he remembers at least parts of it. It’s this meeting that propels Sora forward in KH3, hoping to free Roxas from his heart.
But doing so, means facing pain, as he soon comes to find. The reality of the world isn’t so “light” as he wishes it could be. Death, loss, and darkness chases him. It’s not so much he hasn’t seen it before, it’s that he feels it more. At one point Riku says to him “Since when do you mope, Sora?” In reference to the fact that both Roxas and Terra are still lost. He deeply feels it, and it’s only going to get worse.
He’s been on his own before, but this time he knows it could be permanent. Loss is more real to him than ever before. Instead of his child like faith of before, it’s been shaken. Would everything truly work out in the end? If it didn’t, could he go on? It’s Riku who reminds him of what he knows and believes.
In the end, Sora’s the one who “creates his own happy ending”. But by forcing a happy ending, he doesn’t truly create one. For a moment everyone is together, and he gets to see the fruit of his labors. But not truly enjoy it. He fades away, leaving a space behind. One that everyone left behind feels. In the process of not wanting to face loss and grief, he creates more. Both for himself, but also for the others. If they didn’t know what it was like to lose someone they love, they do now.
The ending left me unsettled. On one hand I knew why it happened, and yet the actions by Sora felt selfish, and unthinking of the others. Would he not know how much they would miss him? Couldn’t there have been another way? In the end though, it’s all about the process of growing up. No longer is Sora that fourteen year old he started out as. Instead, on the cusp of young adulthood, he’s faced with new challenges and new beginnings. What will he do now? Will he hold on to the past and desperately wish it back? Or will he go forward, embracing the new while not forgetting how he got there and who he loves? Time will only tell.

Welcome to me, once again, over thinking...
Kingdom Hearts
Spolier warnings ahead for KH3 and BBS!
So, anyway, you know that one scene during kh3 end where Vanites is ranting about how they're( Sora, Ventus, Roxas, and him) are all brothers?.. Well— if we think about it logically, that wouldn't be the case.
Please, hear me out.
In BBS, we learn that Sora, back when a tiny child, shared half of his heart to a stranger( don't do this kids)— which was Ventus. This is the reason why Roxas and Vanites look the way do. Now... this oddly sounds like how kids look like their parents; that meaning, they wouldn't be brothers. . .
Congrats Sora and Ventus! You're the proud fathers of two baby boys!

(iguesskoolaid is my art blog) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR APPRECIATING MY SORA THOUGHTS HE LITERALLY LIVES IN MY MIND RENT FREE AND I THINK ABOUT SO MANY THINGS AND I HAVE NOBODY TO TALK ABOUT HIM WITH LMAO
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THEM I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ADORE YOUR SORA THOUGHTS BECAUSE I TOO CONSTANTLY THINK ABOUT HIM (also if you ever wanna share more i would literally love to hear it your sora thoughts are so good)
i always specifically think about his current kh4 situation but specifically the fact that he's presumably alone in his heart for the very first time and the fact that he considers his strength his connections to others and now they're pretty much as separated as they can get and he clearly links that to his self worth from his breakdown in kh3 which makes me think we'll finally get exploration of this and im just ROTATING THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD CONSTANTLY
