Video: "Praetomorph Explored / Alien Covenant Xeno"
youtube
Definitely praetomorph since it isn't yet the monstrous biomechanical beauty of H. R. Giger. I still think that the Xenos aren't David's creation. The new comics from Marvel and the novelization of Covenant signal to the creature being something far ancient and mysterious which is the equivalent to Promethean fire. Either way, I liked the protomorph design. But of course, the Xeno is my ultimate favorite.
I think the praetomorph was David's attempt at perfecting the Xenomorph strain. David does have a God complex so it makes sense.
For all of the notorious advantages of the protomorph, as you just pointed out, it does have significant disadvantage like it bring fragile in some parts due to it not being biomechanical.

Another quick info dump before I finally get to working on art because I've been doing nothing but watching movies since yesterday to chill out my brain a bit and this does have to do with Emelia, as usual, so fun brain-dump info under the cut
I started watching the Alien movies(chronologically, of course) and had a small revelation during Alien Covenant-
I figured out precisely how Emelia moves when fully mutated 👀
Mix Nemesis phase 2 from the Resi3 remake and the Xenomorph specifically from Covenant (called the Praetomorph/Protomorph technically)
So a mix of this bastard
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And THIS motherfucker

Tumblr media
Because its not Resident Evil without a four legged, animalistic creature that moves like a spider on fucking steroids in an already tight, somewhat dark space. //I mean, come on... in THOSE hallways and tunnels?? Claustrophobia and Nyctophobia be damned, I'd die on the SPOT. No thank you, goodbye, that white mist is my spirit leaving my body.//
Since I can't really animate much myself(though I might try in the future for her... maybe. I only do small ones right now), I figure visuals might help... they sure as hell help me when trying to describe it. 😂 I also feel like any 'description' of mine doesn't really do it justice, and I can only sketch out so much... So yeah, have fun with those visuals!! It is now art time. uwu

I wrote this for the brainrot (not yet finished)
Okay, so this idea I had revolves around two of my current favourite things: Infinity Train and Alien, with it being a little fantasy I had while listening to music and doing work around the house.
The basic idea is that this takes place in a vast industrial complex in which the Infinity Train cast (or some of them, at least) are trapped within. The lot of them split up to find the specific parts they needs to repair an elevator that can get them to safety - of not out of the complex, then to a safer upper level.
Ryan and Min-Gi look for a battery to power up the lift, going a little aways from where they and the other passengers have been staying. They find and look around inside this old maintenance room, looking for what they need. They split up, with Ryan looking around in one part of the place, and Min-Gi searching another.
Ryan rustles noisily through parts, objects and cylinders, trying to find the battery. He's in a bit of a panic, desperate to get out of this place, and rushes through the task; he shoves metal cylinders out of the way and behind himself, trying to keep calm, but needing to reach freedom.
What he doesn't see, however, is what waits beyond himself. Perched behind him, a few metres away and staying perfectly still, is a rounded, crouched thing made of black sheen and angles.
The Praetomorph. The imperfect Starbeast.
It rests in an odd crouching position, like a hellish gargoyle as it sits idly nearby. At first, it isn't clear if it's observing Ryan Akagi; it's not even clear if it's even awake or aware of his presence.
But then it raises its tail. Slowly and with patient measure, slipping out from between its legs, it raises it gently into the air. Soundlessly and almost with some serenity. Ryan is still shuffling through objects, thinking he can see the battery. He does - he grabs it.
He pretends he hasn't seen the animal. He hopes against hope that he's imagined it, and that it's his frayed nerves playing their tricks on him-
The Praetomorph dispels that false hope. It rapidly drops its tail down, whipping it against the cold, hard floor with an intrusive SLAP! Ryan flinches, not only from fright, but from the freezing realisation that he hadn't been mistaken. The future rockstar turns around; his mouth is dry like a desert as he sees the thing in all his horrible beauty.
The jig is up. It has his undiluted attention. The black thing skitters forward, seeming to crab-walk towards him, but then it passes its bodyweight forward onto its feet, bringing its skeletal torso and ridiculous head forward. Now it stands on two digitigrade feet, its bony and flayed arms outstretching in the most peculiar way.
Tumblr media
And then it starts to stand.
It raises itself to its full height at a glacial pace. Ryan doesn't mean to, but he lets out a groaning whimper of dread and cold terror as he backs up, clutching the cylindrical battery in his hand. But he lets it go, letting it fall and roll away from him.
The scream is loud enough for Min-Gi to turn around and hear. He sees it as clearly as Ryan does. His heart feels like it's going to leap from his chest at the sight. He watches helplessly as it brings a tiptoe foot forward towards Ryan - towards his friend. His brother.
Mn finds himself running forward, also finds himself holding something in his two clenched hands. Something large and long and metal. He doesn't know why he screams. Probably to scare it off.
But it's a mistake. The Starbeast whips itself around to face the little man, and a black outstretched wrist collides with his shoulder. He's flung backwards as a pain strikes through his arm, then the rest of his body as he lands in an unceremonious heap.
Ryan screams his friend's name. The Praetomorph turns back around to face him, slower this time, sizing the thin Canadian up. It walks forward once more, coming closer to Mr. Akagi. The man whimpers - can barely scream - as his eyes become wet. A theatre fire in his head, with a hundred voices screaming at him to do something. Absolutely anything.
Ryan's still trapped in his indecision as he watches a pair of grim-reaper hands flow forward, and as he feels the insect-leg fingers grace and tickle his face. They are as cold as the wet ground after a storm. He thinks of rainy days and getting snowed in. He finally hiccups a sob as the animal stands before him. Above him. Ryan feels the hands tightening their grip on his head. He chokes.
Why didn't I just run? Am I that stupid?
He thinks this just as the pair of spidery hands twist his head to the side, like an oversized corkscrew.

Neomorphs are the 'peeled', natural versions of Xenomorphs, stripped of the psychosexual symbolism and design that permeates through them.
Spoilers for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Okay so, my headcanon/idea is that the Neomorphs are essentially the 'natural', or unaltered form of the xenomorphs which haven't been too altered by David's experiments.
That's not to say they haven't been engineered by David already, but to me, they feel like mainline Xenomorphs but *without* the symbolically-applied sexualised aesthetic (giant penis head, mouth dripping with pre, oral r@pe of facehugging).
The Xenomorph's life-cycle *feels* sexual, with every facet of it being akin to rape and reproduction... but the neomorph lifecycle doesn't come off as that; it's much less complex, being very cut-and-dry. Overall, it feels more focused on the organism's birth in a bloody, efficient way, rather than the Xenos' rigid reproduction plan and its quasi-sexual undertones.
I made a prior thread detailing my idea of the Xenomorphs' biomechanical design and sexualised aspects being a symbolic representation of David's repression, but brought to horrifying reality. The Xenomorph is the next step of the Alien's evolution, with David basically perfecting his creation: an animal that focuses on survival and procreation, but also kills all other life around it without judgement or abandon.
We can basically say that the Praetomorph (the 'Xenos' we see in Covenant) and the mainline Xenomorph are one in the same, with later iterations adopting the biomechanoid aesthetic of their grandfather, David 8.
Furthermore: The neomorph design was lifted from unused character designs from Prometheus, which would have included the 'Holloway Alien', or the 'Beluga-Xenomorph'. Much like the Neo, the Beluga-head was a pale white, non-mechanoid version of the Xeno, and was implied within the script (then titled Alien: Engineers) to be the natural, base form of the Xenomorph.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carlos Huante, the original designer, intended for the monsters of Prometheus to stand in stark contrast to Giger's aesthetic, as the film canonically took place before the series: he wanted every creature to have a ghostly white visage, like a beluga swimming through the murky depths (paraphrased from him) - hence the albino, black-eyed look of the Engineers. As we can see, the Neomorph's design was influenced heavily by Huante's design of the Beluga-head - a creature intended to be the natural Xenomorph, free from genetic, specialised alteration for purposes of war or combat.
So, tl;dr The mainline Xenomorphs are symbolic stand-ins for David's sexual frustration and sociopathic tendencies/ideation, and the Neomorphs are the 'peeled' version of them; lacking those nuances and frustrations that their father would bestow to their brothers.

I know people will disagree with this take, maybe even dislike me for it, but personally:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I honestly like the design of the Praetomorph/Covenant Chestburster over the original 79' Chestburster. I know that might be a bit unfair, just considering the limitations of the original film, but I just adore everything about Oram's son: the goopyness, the translucent skin, the fact that it looks like a baby version of its adult form.
I know, I get that the sudden metamorphosis in the original film is meant to be the point. I guess the births of the Runner and the Deacon overwrote whatever liking I had for the original larval stage.

Just posting this to remind myself. At some point, I'm gonna write out a little idea I had regarding Ryan, Min-Gi and the Praetomorph/Protomorph from Covenant. Just while thr brainrot's fresh.

Self-care is imagining your favourite characters getting hunted, chased, and/or killed by your favourite monsters.
For example:
The Infinity Train cast getting hunted down, one-by-one, by the Praetomorph.
Lilith becoming the carrier for a Neomorph.
Several TOH characters getting scooped up by Jean Jacket.
A boat/building full of people unintentionally getting destroyed by GareGoji.

Rick's largely escaped the danger from Planet 4, only hearing screams from Covenant's comms. He died in a gruesome way when the Alien used its inner jaw to penetrate his head. There was some confusion with where the Alien had originated from. It was from Lopé because he was infected by the Facehugger in David's Lab. posted on Instagram - https://instagr.am/p/CBJv_27DiZG/
