HHhH I wanted to tumble-dry the quilt to revive it a little, it spent three weeks vacuum packed, but this bizzarely stupid "intelligent" washer/dryer decided (despite me explicitly specifying not to) to run some kind of hot "steam dry" cycle that looks like it has the same effect as a hot wash. Blue colour runs all over the place. Currently consulting with the relatives about solving colour runs while it goes for another cold wash, hopefully the steam cycle didn't make anything permanent. Fuck!

it makes me sad how often textile arts are ignored as actual art forms, and are relegated to the disregarded realm of 'old lady hobbies'. there is so much skill involved, such a broad diversity of forms, but so many people straight up do not think of things like crochet or quilting as art.

#i mean apprenticing with a textile artist as a teen definitely changed how i view quilts and tapestries #before then i had never really realized what was possible or what was involved in creating these things #but i think everyone should at least be taught how to sew and either knit or crochet as a child. #that should just be part of standard school curriculum. #textile art should be taught as a unit in art classes right alongside oil painting - the history of goes back even farther and is so #culturally important to literally every culture in the world and yet it is almost never considered academically the way paintings are.

I was feeling sick last night and remembered this OC out of the blue, so here’s all the drawings I’ve done of Brisk-

He’s an elf whose (human) childhood friend was cursed into a sword (Agathon, who wished for immortality but uh yeah careful what you wish for), so Brisk is on a quest to turn him back into a person. For the time being, he takes extra special care of the sword 😌 and treats it as if Agathon can hear and see everything (bc he’s not sure if he can, so he talks to him anyway)

Elves normally have long hair but Brisk chopped all his off, except for the piece in front, when he left for the quest.

Brisk miiiiight’ve got involved in the curse too? I’m not sure if I want to keep that part, but potentially his lifespan has also been affected… orrr I might take that out :p

to illustrate the kind of sewer i am i use child size crayola craft scissors for literally everything from cutting fabric to cutting my threads. i have fancier scissors but i forget to use them. i nearly exclusively use embroidery and tapestry needles when hand sewing cause i inexplicably don’t own any normal needles. i use my stepmothers terrible sewing machine that needs to be rethreaded every time you start a new stitch. i’m a quilter but never cut a good square in my life because i never measure unless i have to. and despite all of this on wednesday i’m starting a college course on industrial sewing and pattern drafting. lord pray for us sinners (self taught sewers) now and at the time of our death (being thrown into the deep end of sewing)

#im actually so scared like i know how to use a sewing machine perfectly well and i have no trouble operating it #but that doesnt mean that sewing machines dont want to kill me. they do because all of them are out for blood i swear #industrial machines look SO scary r u kidding me #also thank god im not a garment sewer because my sloppy sewing traits would not fly in that field #nothing matters when u quilt i swearrrr #this will be a net good without a doubt like im super happy i get to take this class #however. im coming from such a lacklustre place. i know better im just the laziest sewer ever

My senior show is also so stupid lol like I am never again in my life gonna put my artwork in a gallery setting that's just not something I enjoy at ALL or aspire to do but I have to do this whole big terribly stressful thing in order to graduate and it's SO DUMB

#💭 #i may be a studio art major but like. not... actually LOL #like i am but uh. i'm just like. whatever idc... #i don't necessarily regret going to college i wouldn't have met some important friends otherwise #including my bf lol he didn't go to my school but he was a friend from high school of a friend i made at school #and a lot of the actual things i've gotten to try in studio classes have been fun and cool opportunities #like quilting and ceramics and oil painting etc... #and some stuff i learn in classes like art history and other stuff can be really interesting to learn #but the like... expectations side of it... #not everyone is gonna go above and beyond in class and also like #go on to grad school and eventually make a living off of like solely being a gallery artist or whatever else #i'm gonna like. idk hopefully get some diagnoses soon and mayyyybe get some government benefits that eventually and like #work a calm part time simple not-physically-exhausting job and do commissions or shop stuff or sell crafts etc on the side #ideally speaking etc but. i just wanna have a calm warm cozy healthy life with my bf and family and friends that's all i care about #the world of art school is not really for me lol just bc art is the main thing i do with my time doesn't mean like. #thats the kind of path i'm gonna go down... #i always feel like no one in those settings thinks my main art i make is professional or original or my full capability anyway lol #cuz it's fanart or cartoony or whatever #i make lots of other art too and can do all kinds of styles but i shouldn't have to do it to like. prove myself #no one should #sorry so much rambling lol #i'm just frustrated and stressed
