March 2023 CW Radio activities. Adrenalizing Morsecode.

WS-19: combines AM & CW! See my recently aquired MK-II below, ready for smoke-test on the workbench, more news & details soon. I will try to show this beauty in working condition on the coming Fielddays in June.

PS, this is an old picture from PA0CX, Digital modes should be added in one or the other way, but I can live with this picture as well as with the old WS-19.

Aktio 40: start on 4th of March, due to nice family weekend. Received 4th Sticker for Award.

3B7M: Expedition finished, 6 bands CW, missing 20 meterband. 3,5 and 1,8 were almost impossible for the team there.

HD8M: Galapagos Islands, seemes to be in CW when I am not in my shack but finally worked him on one of the last days.

PACC: Raw scores are available now, 4th place in SO LP 218.286 points. Just outside top 3, but not too bad for a real CW-operator. All callsings and reports were keyed with my Begali Travel Key. Keyboard and computer only used for Logging. All new, first-worked call-signs (319) will receive my (ready-to-send) QSL-cards.

Stewperry Roundup 160 CW: Exchange in this contest is Locator only, which makes it really “staccato” and together with a low number of participants I decided to stop after 53 QSO’s. Worked 19 new and unique callsigns.

RSGB 80m CC: 1,5 hrs long meeting all UK radiofriends, from vy fast KB- to QRS and Straight-key-contesters. Last months I worked a lot of new cals, mostly very short, 3-digit only, but also very well known 6-Digit-callsigns. Due to very good conditions and sigs I was able to reach a 101-qso-score. List of entries shows 217 Logs and several active PA’s. I was able to work 23 new callsigns.

NTC-QP: March 16, prepared N1MM, which is the preferred Logging program. I am still experimenting a lot with N1MM, now got the Call History File setup working. This will speed up the qso rate of this Party, but again some operating practise and CW-romance will be taken over by Electronics. So I will operate with my 1954 Vibroplex Lightning BUG to give some old fashioned counterweight. Results: 35 QSO’s and a 20 minute ragchew afterparty with two PA stations. Results showed “PA3AM High score nr. 1″ in Mechanical section.

Russian DX: Doing garden chorus and participating this contest because it was raining from time to time, made some nice runs on 10, 15 & 20m and in the evening at 40m. Nice DX Stations as YB, VR, JT etc. 101 QSO.

N1MM: Another topic is the export of CSV (Comma Separated Ascii) files, why is there so minimal info exported? DXCC entities, Countrynames, exchanced numbers are not exported. As my Final log is Excel based I would have ALL info exported. (as WriteLog)

Proposal

Science fiction allows the mind to imagine futuristic concepts involving science and technology. However, White male creators' works have historically dominated the genre, often omitting or demonizing people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, and other minorities. Stories about aliens invading Earth and destroying humanity frequently reflected immigration fears, whilst dystopias only focused on White people's survival. The science-fiction of White men had often been criticized by creators who were unrepresented in the genre because of its overwhelming whiteness and lack of inclusivity. Over the last few decades, marginalised authors and artists have begun to reclaim science fiction, highlighting futures in which they exist and thrive.

A plethora of sub-genres have emerged, addressing racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, and even the possibility of a future free of discrimination. These include Afrofuturism, disability in science fiction, Queer futurism, and others, all of which put minorities into the spotlight.

Authors and artists such as Ursula K. Le Guin, Octavia Butler, Sun Ra, and others have cultivated this new science fiction. Such works have influenced our culture, allowing marginalised communities to see themselves in a more positive light. Film, television, literature, art, and music that reclaim science fiction as also belonging to minorities are truly empowering. I was interested in putting together a project that could help these communities feel included in the genre while also highlighting works that I found interesting. Neptune Frost (2021), for example, is an intriguing Afrofuturist film set in Rwanda that examines social justice.

A printed magazine would enable better visual communication and more interesting designs. Two-page layouts can create an engaging dynamic, especially when using visual elements from film, television, and other media. The size of the pages will be 12 x 9 inches. Furthermore, I intend to customize fonts for many of the works featured in the magazine that are both futuristic and visually appealing. Because there will be articles on media as well as type-based works, organizing the space for these different mediums will be critical. While the articles on film and television will rely heavily on images, the articles on type-based works will rely on typography.

I plan on using the modular grid strategy layout from Timothy Samara's Making and Breaking the Grid.

Just trying to convince him to cuddle would be a task on its own.

I headcanon him as a very light sleeper, so the idea of having someone else in his bed with him at night wouldn’t be very appealing when he already has trouble sleeping from both nightmares and waking up very easily.

It’d take a lot of begging and insistence, and when you eventually do coax him into it having someone so close for so long will be a foreign feeling, so don’t be surprised when shys away from being anywhere near you for the first few nights.

Trying to lay as close to the edge of the bed as possible, spending a lot of his time worrying about getting to close and scooting away from you anytime he gets remotely close and accidentally brushed against you.

Eventually he grows out of it and starts getting a little more open to cuddling with you, but considering how unfamiliar it is for him it’ll be up to you to initiate the contact in the beginning.

Is the little spoon but will get upset if you bring it up even once and refuses to sleep near you for the next week.

Is normally really cold for reasons unknown so he appreciates your body heat since it can be comforting, but will get too hot if you pair that with having a blanket covering you both during a night that’s not cold so he prefers to not use it himself or kick it off halfway through the night.

Likes to have his head on your chest since he enjoys listening to your heartbeat, it makes it easier for him to fall asleep.

Definitely gets nightmares a lot so on top of it being hard for him to fall asleep quickly he’ll wake up at odd hours of the night very often and just lay there admiring you instead of sleeping if he can’t get back to his rest.

Late night talks with him laying between your legs with his back to you and his head on your chest, complaining about whatever had gotten on his nerves that day while you run your hands through his hair until both of you fall asleep.

He hates falling asleep before you do.

Overtime he gets very used to sleeping with you since he doesn’t get nightmares as often and you’re able to get him back to sleep even when he does, so he starts to become way more dependent on cuddling every single night than he’d like to admit.

In fact he gets so used to it that when for some reason the two of you aren’t sleeping together he doesn’t get any sleep at all.

Will wait for you to join him before he even thinks of going to sleep, so finding him sitting on his bed, eyes open and completely unfazed until you walk in before moving over to make room for you and invite you over without saying a word will be common.

If for some reason the two of you are separated he’ll make his way to you instead, especially if he had a nightmare beforehand.

Get used to being woken up late at night by him inviting himself into your bed and under your blanket without a word and expecting you to immediately make room for him and cuddle him, please wrap your arms around him and play with his hair he’s a sucker for it, touch starved and deserves to be babied.

A nightmare in the beginning.

Ivan normally sleeps on his back, completely covering most of the bed in a position that makes you question whether or not he can actually sleep comfortably like that or if he’s intentionally trying to take up as much space as possible.

On top of that he not only moves a lot in his sleep and is a heavy sleeper, just finding a position where you won’t be on the receiving end of being hit or kicked off the bed at any moment would be a struggle and it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to get a full nights sleep at first.

Expect to be shivering at night when the weathers cold very often because among other things Ivan is also a blanket thief.

You will wake up to yourself shivering and Ivan taking up over half the bed with little to none of the blanket covering you and the rest of it completely wrapped around Ivan. Getting it back is out of the question since he has an ungodly grip despite being 100% knocked out.

Meanwhile he will very easily sleep like a rock and be very confused when he wakes up in the morning and you’re occasionally sending him dirty looks with bags under your eyes.

“What’re you looking at me crazy for?”

He eventually starts to adapt to having someone else in his bed and doesn’t toss and turn nearly as much as he would on his own, but until then you’ll have to sleep with one eye open to avoid being shoved by him every night.

A huge cuddle bug.

Ivan isn’t all that touch starved, he just really enjoys your presence and how comfy you are so if you’re not fighting to stay on the bed, you’re having to deal with him being glued to your side, both awake and asleep. There is no escape once he’s gotten you in his hold.

Like Rwanda he likes to rest his head on your chest because he finds it comfortable, but will be way too prideful and embarrassed to admit it.

Will be red in the face and way more sheepish when he asks, please say yes or he’ll hide and never show his face again out of shame.

Could be big or small spoon depending on the weather and his mood, if he’s the big spoon he likes to rest his chin on your head. If small spoon he likes to grab one of your hands when they’re around him and hides his face because he’s a little ashamed of how much he likes it.

Getting suffocated in your sleep is not out of the question, like previously mentioned he’s a heavy sleeper and the odds of him rolling on top of you and not even realizing until you’re squirming and forcibly shoving him off are high. He will get embarrassed if you bring it up or make fun of him for it so try not to mention it too often.

Falls asleep so quickly and so easily that it’s almost scary.

One minute the two of you will be having a light conversation with him laying on your stomach, the next minute he’s completely stopped responding and is suddenly fast asleep and snoring loudly.

In the end, trying to manage Ivan in his sleep is going to be a real fight but it will be absolutely worth it.
