Greetings! I'm asking the reverse of a question from a few weeks ago.

Who would be each ASOIAF character's favourite X-man, or mutant if you prefer? Obviously there's a lot of ASOIAF characters, only whoever strikes your fancy of course.

I could have sworn I had done this years ago, but I think I must have gotten a draft or something eaten back in 2018 when I did the reverse of this. In order to make this a bit more manageable, I'm going to stick with ASOIAF POV characters only.

Bran - Xavier. A morally ambiguous disabled psychic. Kind of over-determined, really.

Catelyn - Madelyne Pryor. A wronged wife with red hair granted dark powers to wreak revenge.

Daenerys - Jean Grey. A woman of immense supernatural power who literally walks through fire? C'mon.

Eddard - Cyclops. Honorable warrior respects honorable warrior.

Jon - also Cyclops, but only after the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Arya - Laura Kinney or Gabby. Not sure which.

Sansa - starts as Firestar fan (justice for Lady Butterrum!) ends as Emma Frost stan.

Tyrion - this is more a deep cut, but I think Tyrion would be a huge Whiz-Kid fan, especially his S.W.O.R.D era incarnation.

Theon - I think Theon would be a Quentin Quire fan; something about the combination of great potential and raging insecurity.

Davos - Gambit comes closest, but I could see an argument for Storm, especially Storm's depowered era.

Melisandre - Rachel Summers. Fire, Mother Askani prophecies, the whole shebang.

Jaime - big fan of the Fenris twins. Just kidding. He's super into Angel/Warren Worthington III, and has confused thoughts about whether Warren is better off with Candy Southern or Psylocke.

Brienne - super into the Captains Britain.

Samwell Tarly - I think he'd be a Beast fan, but Percy's X-Force would make him very sad.

Aeron Greyjoy - Exodus is another predetermined choice.

Victarion Greyjoy - doesn't see why Sabertooth has such a bad reputation.

Asha Greyjoy - big Laura Kinney fan.

Arienne Martell - I could see her being an Emma Frost stan.

Barristan Selmy - Cable. Again, white-haired grizzled soldier who protects children of destiny. Not a hard pick.

Quentyn Martell - has a soft spot for Beak.

Jack Zimmermann joins the Stargate program and becomes friends with one of the resident scientists, Dr. Bittle. Jack is on an away team, but he keeps on returning to the SGC, and every time he does, he checks in with Eric. Even when he turns purple. Even once the Ancient technology goes haywire and traps him in a shifted dimension. Even on the memorable day he’s transformed into an alien creature. Even when he’s loopy and altered from an allergic reaction to the mosquitoes on P-3X782.

There’s just something about Eric that lifts and comforts Jack’s spirits, no matter what else is going on in his life.

characters i think would adjust mostly okay:

catelyn stark - imagine a catelyn who actually gets to use her intelligence as like, a lawyer or something. i'm weeping right now.

jaime lannister - the thing about the real world is that if jaime joins the army and then realizes he’s willingly become part of the imperialist war machine, he can just finish out his time and then not join up again. he can literally just quit his job & become a pacifist or whatever the fuck.

stannis baratheon - i think it'll be a shock but once he realizes he doesn't have to fuck women - or ANYONE really if he doesn't want to - and that there's a lot of people who find "strong silent and kind of a dick" a hot personality to have, he's gonna get lit, he's a baratheon after all he just needs the right circumstances

duncan the tall - put this man on a horse farm he'll have that shit running like a navy captain within a month, i believe this

characters i think would struggle a bit

cersei lannister - can’t murder but can take t, so there’s some trade offs here. she also has a terrible time adjusting in general so 50/50 she loses it or becomes buck angel.

tyrion lannister - again can’t murder, but once he gets over that, i think he will really enjoy being rich in this century. imagine tyrion on dating apps. he’ll be fine lmao

bran stark - i think bran would struggle without his direwolf connection but he will recover once he gets a wheelchair and a psychiatrist

davos seaworth - he's not a man that adjusts that well (imo) but there's nothing about him that screams "can only exist in a vaguely medieval context"

quentyn martell - he's just so sweet, someone's gonna bump him on the street and not apologize and it's gonna cause a meltdown but it's okay because doran and oberyn are throwing a rager with good music and good food and he'll be fine when he just has some carbs

“she should have been a boy.” a common phrase used by disappointed lords upon learning of the birth of a firstborn daughter. it might have been amongst the young lady's first words had she not been ushered away into the arms of the nearest wet nurse. her lord father blames some sort of indiscretions from his past, whatever he can find to justify the mistake the gods made. it is not his own wrongdoings, but those of his wife years prior. the honor of first son from lady sybellas bloodline belonged to a bastard of four residing with his father in raventree hall. it was the affair with samwell blackwood that brought a feminine curse upon the baneforts, and amerie would find herself on the receiving end of their resentments above her subsequent sisters.

a strange upbringing was endured by the banefort lady well into adolescence. she might have believed herself transparent, if not for the unseen tether her mother had wrapped around her neck during her growth. an heir by birthright, yet she'd received little training by the time the dance began. all of her fathers knowledge was being passed down to the miracle he'd prayed day and night for after the birth of three daughters; his coveted son. after he came along, it felt as if amerie were to dissipate where she should, the only to mourn her existence would be the instrument that stood proudly in her chambers. she'd been drawn to the angelic vibrations that radiated off of the first harp she ever plucked and it became the one escape the lady had from her ghostly existence.

the dance brought on more internal hardship than the lady thought she might be subject to. her mother lay a weeping mess in her chambers over the departure of her father and with matters to attend to, amerie used what little knowledge she had to keep banefort above water. all was done with an eager boy of five on her heels, with whom she has a bittersweet relationship. all of her fathers love and devotion manifested in a child with an undeniably big heart and bright blue eyes to match. he may have been the prodigal son, but amerie would assure that he grew to be more than her callous father could ever dream of being.

the news of alfrids death sent shockwaves through the banefort hold. everyone mourned the death of their fearless leader, except amerie. strong relief took the place of grief and she had to take to her quarters for a solemn celebration. it was short-lived though. her fathers wishes were coming to fruition following his funeral, robbing amerie of the title she longed to have now that she'd been given the chance to experience it. she would only continue to act as ruling lady for a short 6 years until jerrad could take her place at 18.

she has plans to locate lucius, using her power as ruling lady to do so before its too late for her to have the resources. if it weren't for her own curiosity, she might have left it as ramblings of a dying woman, but she also wants to see if he knows of his lineage and whether or not he'll cause problems for her family. it's one of the few loose ends she plans to tie up before she steps down to navigate an unsure path despite jerrads wishes to keep her at banefort to council him.

The Nephilims

Jon stared into the darkness for whole minutes, a strange feeling of calm pervaded him. He could feel a magical presence within him, an ancestral and ancient force pulsing through his veins. Could it be that this creature knew something that not even his superiors in the Watchmen were aware of?

"Jon!" chirped a voice behind him. Jon recognised it immediately - it was Samwell Tarly.

"Sam. You're awake." Jon noted, squaring him from head to toe. Or at least, as much as he could, as Sam was reduced to a flickering figure hidden between the drapes of the tent they shared.

"And how can I not be? There was a clatter of hooves and…" Sam whispered, gesturing in exasperation. "Jon, what was that?" he muttered clearly terrified. "I could barely see anything but…are you OK?"

Jon nodded, signalling for Sam to move from the entryway. Surely if there was anyone his secret was safe with, it would be Samwell Tarly. Not that there was really any reason to keep it a secret, but Jon had a strange feeling of embarrassment and jealousy - what had happened he would rather have kept between him and the mysterious creature. After all, he had told him that he was special, and maybe a little bit Jon hoped he really was.

Securing the tent with a closing spell, Jon sat down on the threadbare fur blanket they had made into a bed, beckoning Sam to sit with him. He told him everything: the noise in the night, the Alliser horse he had found battered, the dark creature, and finally him… Misterio. A shiver ran down his spine at the thought of the man-horse. Sam looked at him in amazement.

"Jon… you met a centaur?" he whispered in disbelief.

Jon merely nodded, aware that he had no entirely logical explanation for his friend.

"But centaurs have been extinct for centuries!" Sam had the look of a child being given his first sword, and Jon mentally prepared himself for the flood of words that was about to overwhelm him. "Indeed, it is not even certain that they ever existed. According to some legends they were a sort of hybrid between the forces of evil and good - if I'm not mistaken the first was born from the union of a man and a unicorn. They were said to be irascible, violent, almost prone to madness, but at the same time valiant warriors loyal to their principles. They were a magical paradox, endowed with too much power, a bit like the Nephilim in the legends of Asshai."

"And what in the seven hells is a Nephilim?" Jon shook his head bitterly, regretting asking the question.

"The nephilim, according to legends, of course, were an extremely powerful race, a cross between humans and what the dark city called 'angels', creatures of divine emanation, created by the God of Light himself. I think for us, the equivalent was the Unicorns, before they became extinct." Sam gradually raised his voice, and Jon signalled to him not to wake the whole camp. "Well, back to the centaurs. They were too powerful, and according to legends there was a war - the only war that sided together white and black magic - and they became extinct. Until tonight, at least. Oh, Jon, can you believe it? We are living through an historic event!" (Venom's note: doesn't Sam ever shut up?)

Jon rolled his eyes, mulling over his friend's words. Something didn't quite convince him, he felt almost insulted in his pride after hearing those suppositions about the centaur. To him, he had seemed neither irascible nor mad. On the contrary, the calmness Jon had felt in his presence… he shook his head, pushing away the heat that was climbing up his cheeks.

"However it went, we failed the mission. Alliser's horse is dead." Jon sighed as he got up to put his sword back in its place.

"Well, we can tell him about the centaur and -" Jon cast a furious glance at Sam, surprising himself at the speed with which he had reacted.

"No way. This centaur thing stays between you and me, even if I have to cast a spell on you." Jon admonished him, and seeing that Sam seemed to have agreed despite himself he lay down on the blanket.

That night he dreamt of Misterio riding through the night.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens släpper nytt studioalbum Den 16 juni släpper Yusuf/Cat Stevens sitt sjuttonde studioalbum King of a Land via BMG/Dark Horse Records. Första albumsingeln ”Take The World Apart” släpps idag.

Nyheten anländer mitt i en våg av aktivitet inför 2023 som uppföljning till tillkännagivandet av Glastonbury Festival-debuten som kommer att äga rum den 25 juni. Där kommer han att spela på den eftertraktade Sunday legends-sloten på Pyramid Stage - en prestigefylld uppvisning som tidigare ockuperats av Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, Brian Wilson och många fler. Föreställningen kommer bara en månad före Yusufs 75-årsdag, och följer noga den förväntade releasen av King of a Land.  King of a Land är ett verk med mer än ett decennium i skapandet, fyllt av överraskningar. Yusufs nya musik, ord och melodier målar upp en bild av en värld som omfamnar de förlorade markerna av banal och obefläckad ungdom. Hans poetiska berättande bjuder på en resa till ett alternativt universum till det vi för närvarande bebor - där lyckliga slut är möjliga.  “Looking at the jagged journey of my music, beginning as I did in the 60’s, I would say this new record is a mosaic. När Yusuf och Paul valde musiker till albumet, sammanställde de ett toppteam inklusive basisten Bruce Lynch som först arbetade med honom på Buddha and the Chocolate Box (1974), keyboardspelaren Peter Vettese (Jethro Tull, Bee Gees, Simple Minds) och trummisen Russ Kunkel (Joni Mitchell, Carol King, James Taylor, CSN&Y), samt hans välbekanta tvåmannaband av Kwame Yeboah och Eric Appapoulay.  Den sista mixen av King of a Land ägde rum i Henley-on-Thames i George Harrisons privata studio i hans tidigare hem, Friar Park.  “We were very privileged to be in Friar Park,” säger Yusuf, “and to be one of the first outsiders to enter that control room and mix an album. George Harrison has been an immense influence on me spiritually, from the very beginning. He pioneered certain thoughts and ideas, which stretched way east, and that was very important. If you listen to some of these songs on this album, you’ll hear a kind of spirit of George.”  Albumet släpps också genom Dark Horse Records, Harrisons eget bolag som drivs av hans son Dhani.  Den bestående framgången för Yusufs musikaliska arv bygger på en myriad av faktorer, men nyckeln bland dem är den kusliga förmågan han har att omsätta sin livfulla fantasi till musikalisk form. Denna hunger och vilja att skriva, spela in och underhålla är har inte avtagit i King of a Lands.  Nästan 60 år har gått sedan en sjuttonårig "Cat" undrade ut på popscenen med hits som "Matthew and Son" och "I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun", och skrev tidlösa klassiker som "The First Cut Is The Deepest" och ”Here Comes My Baby”. De tidiga låtarna var bara början på ett långt musikaliskt äventyr som fortsätter ända fram till idag.  King of a Land finns att förbeställa på grön vinyl i gatefold-format med ett 36-sidigt häfte med illustrationer av Peter Reynolds. He’d deny it if asked, but he’s had a countdown app going on his phone ever since he invited Nursey to spend the weekend in Maine.

Or, Nursey and Dex spend a winter weekend at a lakeside cabin in Maine.

omgcheckplease by ngozi: a webcomic written by a black woman aka my literal role model. omgcp is about a gay man named eric bittle who gets a hockey scholarship at samwell university. we watch eric learn about being a fratbro, coming in terms with his identity, fall in love, and become confident in playing hockey. it’s really cute and completed!! homophobia isn’t a huge part of the plot ( thank god ), like it’s there but the webcomic isn’t about the homophobic world. it’s just about bitty and his baking vlogs <3

tripping over you by suzana harcum: LITERALLY MY GO TO WEBCOMIC WHENEVER I’M SAD!!! CURRENTLY ON MY FOURTH REREAD. about liam and milo who are basically high school sweethearts and their lives from their last year of high school to their first year of college. deals with depression, disconnect between children and parents, divorced parents who still argue, arguments that happen in a relationship, and just finding yourself after turning 18/19. my favorite part of this webcomic is def the wedding scene bc i love love ( despite being aromantic ). 

heartstopper by alice oseman: YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT I WAS GONNA ADD THIS!!! everyone knows of this webcomic bc it’s so popular out of the three. literally makes me so happy and i relate to the characters a lot ( especially when it comes to my mental health and how that affects me on a daily ). gonna cry when the netflix series drop 

autophobia by g.h.s.t: sobbing, i love this. i think i have a thing for webcomics that deal with depression,,,,, probably bc i can relate to all of them AOGPIOAJGAOIGA also a gay love story but with high schoolers learning more about themselves, friendships coming to an end, learning to love and trust yourself again. it’s cute but also so sad. also if you talk shit about the artwork,,, i’ll throw a brick at you 

magical boy by the kao: OMG!!!! LITERALY!!! AMAZING!!! LOVE MY MANS KAO!!!! it’s a webcomic about a transman who comes from a long line of magical girls who protect the world from monsters. you can read it on tapas but you would have to pay ( VALID DO IT!!! IT’S SO GOOD!!! ). please be aware because the webcomic deals with the main character’s identity and his transphobic town and mother ( the dad is amazing, supports his beautiful son ). it’s still a huge rec

demon house by joanne kwan: this webcomic ended and im still not over it. literally a girl moves into this house with demons and it’s just her friendship with them. it’s also the first webcomic to truly draw angels how they REALLY look, which made me so happy. cried when it had to end. still crying over it OAIGJAIOGJAIG

the flying ship by jem milton: BEAUTIFUL, 10/10, I LOVE FOUND FAMILY PLOTS!!! it’s that diverse fantasy webcomic that we all need and deserve. the main character has a disability, another character is genderfluid, IT’S GAY!!!!! please read it, i need more people to read it. also the main character is written beautifully and doesn’t let their disability stop them from kicking ass ( bc people seem to think that disabled people cannot do the same shit as able bodied people )

lady knight by lion illustration: on webtoon and it’s truly amazing! about a bunch of 15 y/o who are training to become knights to beat up the darkness or whatever. but there’s a twist bc the main is a woman and usually, the knights are men but she was chosen. love her and her two best friends, ot3!!! 

hooky by miriam bonastre tur: I REMEMBER READING THIS WHEN THE VERY FIRST CHAPTER GOT DROPPED!!! about twin witches who missed the bus to their witch boarding school so they go to some random guy’s house to learn magic from him. starts off cute and silly before becoming dark and twisted. i sobbed when this ended, i’m still crying.

Shitty fucking hates his wings because he’s too light for the pair his size and they keep lifting him off the ice without his permission. He leaves piles of feathers on the bench because he gets so pissed off.

Nursey’s wings are literally gossamer butterfly wings. No one knows how they lift him and they require constant upkeep. But he won’t use anything else and they don’t work on anyone else.

Dex has a Weasleyish hand-me-down set of very plain wings and he thinks he looks stupid wearing them. But everyone knows he loves using them.

Lardo gets an honorary set of duckling wings but they basically are only good for helping her get stuff off high shelves. They’re sleek and black and she likes to sleep in them.
