new fic - omgv kkg kidfic - so I was feeling inspired thanks to Jordan's (@ludwigplayingthetrombone) new art with Kakashi and baby Metal, and I have written a lil one shot for my lovely friend @9thgateofgay including the fan child he's made/alluded to having art of (POST IT JESSE IMMA FIGHT YOU), but I've been besieged by The Visions and now I'm writing up a short multi-chap about it all so be on the lookout for that
anyway hope you all haven't been too disappointed in my progress as of late, I've been very busy but I'm feeling more motivated/inspired than I have been so I'm trying to capitalize on it. Thank you for your patience and support as always <3

How about Jayce and Viktor meeting as kids? Maybe running into each other somehow while they both live on different sides of the bridge? Or maybe sometime after Heimerdinger brought Viktor to the academy?
Kidfic time in a different way than usual!! I tried REALLY hard not to describe Jayce's injury here, but TW for a broken bone. Short lil drabble. Jayce Falls For Viktor.

His mother had always told him to mind his steps when he was close to the vents, and his father had demanded the same, but Jayce had never been especially good at listening. In his scant defense, he thinks, as he hazily rehearses his speech in his head for when he gets home, It had not been a vent. Nor had it been the massive ledge over some parts of Zaun, nor had he crossed the bridge. Technically, he hadn’t broken any rules. Technically, no one had told him to try not to fall down sewers.
Granted, his mother had probably been under the mistaken impression Jayce would not be playing near the sewers, and his father would likely not care that much about his excuses.
If he made it home.
He lets himself admit that he doesn’t quite know how he’s going to make it home, because everything is blurry and painful and there’d been a noise he doesn’t want to think about when he hit the bottom of the vent shaft. His leg feels like it was on fire, raw and painful, and he doesn’t think he can move it. Every time he does there’s a little surge of pain that makes every breath come out a sob. He feels absolutely pathetic, angry at himself for not being able to move more, almost grateful no one can see him crying, except–
There’s a rustle, on the other side of the pile of trash he’s on, and then a scraping sound. Footsteps. An odd– pattern Jayce can’t quite identify through the pain, and then there’s a wide-eyed face looming over his. Another kid, he realizes hazy.
“What happened?” the boy asks, and Jayce swallows, painful.
“I– fell.” he mumbles. The boy is– pretty. Really pretty, which makes the humiliation of hurting himself much worse. He’s incredibly aware of the teartracks on his cheeks, the fact that he’s covered in trash and his nose is stuffy.
The boy looks up, noting the opening to the trash chute, and looks down with a shocked expression.
“Are you from Piltover?”
“Uh-huh.” Jayce manages.
“Are you– okay?”
Jayce swallows hard. “No.” He mumbles, humiliated.
“Hold on, okay? I’ll go– get help.”
“Wait.” Jayce says, even as he flinches through another little surge of pain. “–What’s your name?”
The boy blinks at him. “It’s Viktor.” he says. “What’s yours?”
“Jayce.”
“Well, Jayce.” Viktor says. “It’s nice to meet you, but you should probably stay still and wait, okay? I’ll get help.”
Jayce just nods, waiting for the footsteps to fade away again before he mumbles it to himself– Viktor.
Maybe, he thinks, deliriously, falling down that sewer wasn't so bad.

Wow. Tony’s mind went blank when his eyes moved involuntarily and focused in on where Nurse Rogers was pointing something out on the computer screen. It was nothing, really. It was a blob roughly the size of a jelly bean. The picture wasn’t even clear. It was black and white and so ridiculously grainy that Tony couldn’t see clearly.
Oh. Actually, the reason he couldn’t see clearly was because of the tears in his eyes.
“Wow,” he said, voice breaking on the short words. “That’s…”
“Your baby. Right here.”
Tony fell silent again, just taking it all in. That was his baby. His child. A whole little person living inside of him, ready to grow and stretch and make his body do all kinds of weird things. Nine months of his baby inside of him and then eighteen years of them living in Tony’s house.
Somehow, it already didn’t seem like long enough. Seeing it on a screen wasn’t enough either. Tony wanted to reach out, to trace the tiny image with his fingers and try and feel what little extra he couldn’t inside of him.
After a long moment, he licked his lips. Shit. He was having a baby.
“Steve would love this,” he breathed out.

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Tony hurries to reassure, reading Bucky’s mind. “You were perfect, Bucky, I swear you were. Are. This. It’s not. It’s really not you,” he says with a small, humourless chuckle, “it’s me.”
Bucky looks at the tense line of Tony’s shoulders, at the sad set of his mouth, the defeat in his eyes, and he knows it’s the truth. Or, at least, what Tony believes to be true.
Or; sometimes, people mean well, but that doesn't always mean they know best. Bucky and Tony, unfortunately, have to learn that the hard way.

2021 Writing in Review
I used to do year-end reviews, and I used to feel quite proud of them. I haven't done one since 2018, mostly because my output's been pretty weak and it felt like commemorating failure.
Now I don't think that. Whatever, I only wrote like 64 words this year, who cares. I like some of the stuff I wrote and some stuff has spawned great conversations with people, and that's worth celebrating.
I usually list out favorite stories--most audience liked and my personal favorite--but I've written almost nothing, so instead I'm just going to list out every story in one short lil list.

Pastoral for a Distant Planet
A surreal little mshenko story, just a dreamy, quiet, odd little scene. I actually really like this one quite a bit.

Mshenko, not much more than a drabble. Exploring the first time Shepard realized he was in love with Kaidan.

Mshoker drabble, because there could honestly be more mshoker in the world. Shepard realizing the first time he was in love with Joker.
Untitled Lime Scene
Saw some fun mshenko artwork, had an idea for a sexy little story, wrote it out. Pretty much just an mshenko, sensual tableau.
Intermission: Conversations Overheard
A continuation in an mshenko kidfic series I've cross-posted on AO3. I really like writing this family. I decided when I started it that Shaun would age in real time, so here's hoping I keep writing this series long enough for that to make a meaningful character development.

Weekly Writing and Reading Update
In between a light frenzy of housecleaning, because it is nearly almost probably spring! (Trees are flowering, but it’s unseasonably chilly, so.)
Writing
Worries and Welcomes - A wee lil Castle Terra story I put up this morning, because I love writing about their early years together.
What Inheritance Is - Updated on...Thursday, I think? Just two more chapters to go!
bingo - FINALLY starting my bingo card stories. I want to write them all as canonverse. I’ve got the first story underway; still figuring out where it’s going to wind up, but I think a series of short stories will be the end result.
kidfic!temporary - a Castle Terra story that will go up sometime in the next week.
SFverse - UGHHHHHHH. I started writing this based on an AU I sketched out last Whumptober, and I hate it. There’s a lot of As You Know, Bob, and it’s very boring. I’ll probably do some kind of wiki article/faux anthropologist write-up and start over and let Aziraphale and Crowley just....be people. Right now they’re dull little encyclopedias. Healthy dull little encyclopedias, it’s like I don’t even know my own brand.
Also like a paragraph of a Bike Girls story that is probably going nowhere, and I should start over. They haven’t had a misadventure in like a minute! I need to find a h/c prompt generator or something and go wild. [a quick google didn’t turn up much, let me know if you know of something?]
Reading
I finished Ella Enchanted and holy shit this book is so stressful!! How is this for children!! I didn’t not enjoy it, but the, um, implications of Ella’s blessing/curse were...hard to ignore. It was fine. I’m not sorry I read it, I guess, but I don’t think it’s entirely for me.

AO3 tags 101
So to classify its content Archive Of Our Own uses a system called “tagging”, and I’ve seen quite a lot of people puzzled as to how exactly it is used. This is going to be a long post trying to clear that up, and hopefully providing some help and orientation.
(i am going to use a lot of fanfiction terminology in this post – you can look a lot of it up in this post)
What is tagging?
To cite the AO3 FAQ: “A tag is a keyword or phrase that you add to your works to make them easier to find.“ Tags also have the, at least as important purpose, of helping readers avoid content they don’t want to read.
Some of the AO3 tags are more or less mandatory: you have to chose a fandom, a rating, an archive warning from the available options (and be it “chose not to use those options”).
Those mandatory tags have pretty detailed explanation boxes, which is why i’m focusing on the more puzzling domain of “Additional tags”, or “Freeform tags”:
(As said in its name, those tags are “freeform”, which means the author is entirely free to chose whatever keywords and catchphrase they want, be it some common tags, misspelled common tags, or new tags they’re introducing. If it’s a new tag, the AO3 tag wrangling staff then checks if it fits into a more common category, or if it stands on its own.
I’ve seen people asking the following questions:
Why do i have to use freeform tags?
Well first off you absolutely don’t have to. But it gives readers additional info on whether your fic fits their taste, and can therefore get more people to read it.
I know sometimes i look at the summary, think “meh”, but then i see in the tags that the fic uses some of my favorite tropes and end up giving it a shot.
Also, it helps people find your fic again! A former reader is wondering “Oh, dang, i don’t remember the name nor the author but it had unicorns and mutual pining”? If your fic uses those tags they can find it without any problem through the search engine.
And, and i can’t stress this enough: it helps people that absolutely loathe the kind of content you create (because sensibilities are different, so sometimes it’s bound to happen) to stay waaay clear of it. Which is good for everybody involved.
But what if it spoilers my story?
Fear not! AO3 offers the neat option to hide the freeform tags as a default (for logged-in users); so whether your readers decide to look at the tags or not is completely up to them.
Me? I very rarely look at tags. I dislike being spoilered, and i accept that i’ll probably end up reading things that don’t really float my boat as a consequence. And on the contrary i have friends who’d much rather put up with spoilers if it means they know what they’re getting into. Matter of personal taste, really!
As an author you can merely provide that option for readers who enjoy additional info beforehand. It’s a bit of a friendly courtesy.
How many tags should I use?
Again, it’s completely up to personal taste. I’m not a big fan of huge walls of tags, because i don’t think they’re read in details by most readers, so i’d recommend between 3-7 tags for shorter stories (<5k words). For longer stories, readers often want to know in more details in what journey they’re getting into, so up to twenty tags is game in my books. More than that tends to look cluttered and distracting (again, my biased opinion).
What kind of tags should I use?
*rubs hands* This is where I suggest my neat lil’ classification of freeform tags (with some minor overlaps here and there). It’s based on observations and my own fandom experiences, so obviously it has no objective value, but i think it’s still a good summary of the different types of freeform tags used for most fics. Some kind of fics (i’m thinking PWP) have slightly different tagging conventions, but the following typology applies to most stories.
You can use it as a checklist, or simply as inspiration on what kind of tags might apply to your fic.
Here’s my typology!
1. Format
These tags specify if your fic follows a particular fixed format in regard to length and style. Here’s some of the most common “format tags”:

This one’s already a bit more tricky because so often there’s no over-arching “genre” in which your fic might fit (which is why there’s all the other tags to help you put some kind of label on your content!). Still, genre is a pretty important descriptor for your content; hence here are some of the common “fanfic genres”:

3. Relationship to Canon
That’s one super cool in my books, because it’s sooo unique to fanfic. It specifies in what kind of relationship to the original content your story operates. Most common tags:

4. Fandom-specific tags
These tags are particularly relevant for book or movie series where the overarching fandom tag covers a really broad amount of content. Those tags give orientation in regards to which part of the canon content we’re talking about. For example, Harry Potter fandom may use terms like “Marauders’ Era” or “The Golden Trio Era” to specify what part of the original timeline the fic takes place in.
But they also apply to fandom-specific events like Big Bangs/Reverse Big Bang, or fandom-specific tropes, genres and fanfic conventions. These are different for every fandom!
5. Common Fanfic Tropes
There’s a slight overlapping with “genre”, but all in all those tropes are a bit more specific, though widespread enough to be recognizable to avid fanfic readers.

6. Content Warnings
Reminder that there’s mandatory archive warnings for AO3’s big four (underage sexual content, non-con/rape, graphic depictions of violence, character death) that you have to use, or at least indicate to readers you chose not to use them.
You are not required to use further content warnings and no one can blame you for it, as long as you used the mandatory warnings properly. But there are some benefits to additional content warnings:
1. It frames the “problematic behavior XY” (e.g emotional blackmail) you depicted as a problematic behavior, which makes readers both aware that it’s Bad™ (important especially for younger audiences) and that the author knows it’s Bad™.
2. It helps people that wouldn’t enjoy that content avoid it, which, good for them, good for you
3. It helps people that are actively searching for specific dark and difficult topics, for whichever reason, to find them.
All in all i’d say it has established itself as a widespread fandom etiquette to tag content commonly viewed as squicky/triggery. Here are some of the most common ones:

I'm probably not going to write these. But at the same time, if, and only if, a premise manages to impale me dead center in the inspirational bullseye, then I will write it in red as I bleed out pinned to the wall. For beta reading, I am WIDE OPEN when it comes to universes, fandoms, characters, and ships. CHARACTERS/CANON: When it comes to characters and 'verses I know best, my favorite characters, both individually and as a ship, are Tony Stark and Steve Rogers from 616, MCU, and early Ults.
My 616 canon knowledge definitely has gaps, but I have a reasonable grounding in lots of areas of Iron Man comics, some Captain America runs, some Avengers, and a number of the Marvel comics "events" (Civil War, Secret Invasion, etc). I'm caught up to current issues for the presently ongoing Tony Stark: Iron Man and Captain America runs, and a few other current-run comics. I also just jumped into X-Men comics with the recently completed Hickman House of X/Powers of X series (LOVED it), albeit with little to no knowledge of previous X-Men canon.
LEVELS OF BETA READING: I'm happy to beta read on any level from a once-over for final proofing, all the way up to a deeply involved consideration of theme, emotional impact, and character development. I also love brainstorming and discussing plotting! It helps me greatly to know what the author likes and wants from a beta reader -- anything that has resulted in a good experience or a bad experience with having their fics beta read in the past.
For authors I haven't beta read for before, I usually leave feedback for a page or two first, then wait for the author to receive my suggestions before moving forward. Then the author can let me know if what I'm offering is helpful, or if there's anything they'd like me to approach differently.
SCHEDULING AND TIME FRAMES: One thing I don't do well is working on short deadlines or "need it NOW" time frames. As a general idea, I would prefer to have ten days to two weeks to complete a thorough beta reading of a ~10k fic. I might be able to get it back to you much faster than that, but I can't guarantee that, and I'd rather ask for more time and need less, than the opposite case.
With that in mind -- if you would be considering asking me to beta read any fic with a submission deadline, please let me know. We should have a plan to make sure there will be enough time for beta reading and revision to take place in between completion of your draft and your deadline date.

This auction is for writing one fic of 1k-5k words.
Please think of prompts in terms of "a short fic" that could end up falling anywhere within this range. I'm not fantastic at estimating word counts when I start writing for an idea, so I feel better leaving some latitude in the promised fic length. That way, whatever prompt my winning bidder and I decide upon, I can relax and focus on writing to tell the story, rather than worrying about word count targets.
Aside from Steve/Tony gen or ship fic, I'm open to writing fic centered around either one of them individually: character study/introspection, expansion of a canon scene, missing scene, etc.
There are a few things outside of 616 and MCU Steve-Tony that I might be persuaded to write -- possible secondary 'verses, and possibly a couple of other ships. But this would be highly conditional. sdlhljfsd how dare u ask me to say something nice about myself, i wanna throw up. emotions??? established relationship?? i like writing little details to make a relationship feel lived in, like it’s part of a timeline with history and a future. also CONCISENESS 😎
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
lol funny u should ask because the answer to this is 100% to the end of the night by @niallspringsteen. SUCH a good futurefic, SUCH a good kidfic. i really did worry that people were going to think i ripped you off because of how much i basically based my louis on your louis.
from a non-rpf perspective, i also had my world changed the first time i read a heartbreaking work of staggering genius by dave eggers. the second time i read it, i found it insufferable and couldn’t finish it, so this isn’t a rec. but the first time i read it, i was FLOORED by the narrative voice, by how ballsy and bombastic it was. it was so unreal to me to read a narrator who wasn’t just mindlessly reciting the facts of what had happened, but was injecting so much commentary into every scene. i love the idea of a really, really strong POV acting as a character in the story, and i only have limited application for that in fic bc everything here is third person, but my first person narrator is a lil firecracker because of this book.

hmm. i’m gonna go with this bit from even if it’s a lie, say it will be all right where eleanor is watching louis and briana have an easy, casual conversation together.
It’s still surreal to Eleanor, watching Louis be so familiar and comfortable with this woman she barely even knows. This woman who has an entire secret chapter of Louis’ life that she will never be a part of. Nights they spent together that created a person, that made his beautiful, funny little Freddie. Eleanor can’t help but picture it sometimes, and it hurts her. And it hurts worse than thinking about Danielle. He loved Danielle, and he gave her pieces of himself, and she kept him safe when he desperately needed that from someone, and that does hurt, that’s excruciating to think about. But somehow it’s so much worse to think of Louis and Briana, so carefree and easy together, just messing around, just having some fun. And after all of Eleanor’s planning, after all the years they’d spent thinking of baby names, discussing where they’d raise their children, whether they wanted a boy and two girls, or one girl and two boys, or six boys and seven girls (Louis, I’m not getting pregnant thirteen times, and don’t you even dare say the word ‘twins’ at me), Briana got to take that from her. It was supposed to be hers, it was her future with Louis, and it got stolen out from under her.
i…really love writing about how louis got everything he wanted, just... with the wrong girl.
