once again thinking about Pentiment and how none of the choices you make are the "right" one because there is no "right" one to choose from. someone's going to die as a result of your investigations in act I and act II and you have to choose. there will be consequences. you can't complete your investigation, you run out of time, someone dies, and you have no way of knowing if you've made the right decision and even when you've solved the larger mystery you still won't know. game of all time

One thing that playing as a Selunite puts emphasis that I really like is that, after saving Aylin up until her personal quest in act 3, Shadowheart isn't actually ready to commit to serving Selune?
There's some hints of it in any playthrough, but if you play as a Selunite there's a few dialogue options where you can talk about her becoming closer to the Moonmaiden and she'll just be kinda like "after all I just went through with my goddess I'm a little hesitant to jump right to another one"
It's good because she *should* get that mourning period before deciding to serve another higher power(or if she even wants to serve one at all but Shadowheart's faith is important to her at the end of the day), but also because it makes clear that Selune is granting her her divine powers even without receiving worship in return

My own strange interest in minor NPCs who have, like, three lines is with Violet (one of Cazador's spawn). It's in one part the way she talks:
0. Violet: Cazador is dust, and Violet blooms! I shall live as a permanent rebuke to all that monster stood for!
2. Violet: Cazador dead, and I alive! I'm giddy, I'm giddy with glee!
Is she a bard or is she just like that?
And partly the fact that (from what I remember) she's also one of the favoured spawn who get to use the nice room (she was the favourite before Leon was brought in). I also seem to recall that she was particularly... unpleasant to her "siblings." And also that, despite the usual thing in Act 3 where a character's model doesn't match her character sheet, she's apparently a drow. Assuming she was born to typical drow society, the abusive hell and squabbles for power that is the life of a vampire spawn probably wasn't all that different to what she grew up with, possibly giving her the advantage in winning "better treatment". How does a drow end up the slave of a vampire in a human city, I wonder.
In second place there's Dalyria, who seems like the "good" one: Come back and tell me about your rationalism and attempts to tackle a mystical curse with science and your horrible unethical experiments involving murdering children.

oh yeah also! if anyone is interested in fatal frame playthroughs that do have commentary, i would very highly recommend gab smolders' playthroughs! she has some very old ones several years back, including of fatal frame 4 and 5 before they got official english releases that she translated while playing, but also a recent-ish marathon of all the games' most recent official versions for the western release of fatal frame 5. i don't know if she's ever played a regular playthrough of the original ps2 version of FF2 on her channel, only the wii remake, which i personally like less than the original, but it's not that big of a deal. the important thing is that she loves the games and plays them very thoroughly, reading all the lore documents and doing her best to connect the dots of the more vague story elements

Random question about the “they should make persona for people who like good games” post. Do people think the persona series is that bad? I know they aren’t perfect but I wouldn’t call them bad games.
I had a wholeass essay written out before i realized im too tired to make it sound coherent. AND my only experience is p 4 and 5, so my opinion on it means jack shit. All i can say is that the most recent titles suffer from bad writing. (And repetitive gameplay, but thats a different issue). Be it poorly written characters and dialogue, or poorly written interactions and plot, it is hard to take some of the stuff in the more recent games at face value. One could argue that that just means the game is subpar, not necessarily bad, but thats subjective; bad means different things to different people. And i say this as someone who thinks this game is Not the best but still found it incredibly engaging and entertaining.

So you know this party banter between Aveline and Carver?
Aveline: I don't like some of the people you've been associating with, Carver.
Carver: Talk to my brother/sister. He/She's the one in charge.
If you're on the rivalry path with Aveline, she says:
Aveline: Who says I don't mean him/her too? This city's full of people who are dead set on ending badly. I don't want to see you end up the same way.
I just- Aveline, you- you're so- hhhhnnnngggggg
I always rival Aveline when I play a mage, and if you think Edgar Aristide Hawke, who practically raised Carver and Bethany after Malcolm died and Leandra became a distant mother in her grief, wouldn't stop dead in his tracks at Aveline heavily implying he's a bad influence on his brother and Carver shouldn't hang around him so much since apparently Ed's someone set on ending badly...? Absolutely not.
This is another case of me wishing Hawke had the option to jump in during party banter with different options, because Ed would've chewed Aveline out for that.
Oh, and then there's:
Carver: Would asking you to stop spying on me help in the least?
Aveline: No.
Aveline...................stop it.
