Continuing my quest to find a good drink bottled by Orca Beverage Inc. (this one being bottled under the authority of Monarch Beverage Co.), we have Kickapoo Joy Juice, the "Original Dogpatch Recipe."
For those who don't recognize the characters, Kickapoo Joy Juice is from the Li'l Abner comics by Al Capp that ran from the 1930s through the 1970s which spawned cartoons, radio, and television shows (Li'l Abner is one of those forgotten cultural icons, influencing media and society, and coining terms still used in our lexicon today like "double whammy;" Al Capp is one of the unsung heroes of comics, but I digress). The fictional Kickapoo Joy Juice is a super strong moonshine pretty much unfit for human consumption, so this citrus soda is in likeness by name only.
Enough about these cartoon hillbillies you all never heard of! What's the scoop on the juice!
Do you like Mountain Dew? (I don't.) The first couple sips of Kickapoo Joy Juice tastes almost like Mountain Dew, which makes sense because that is definitely what this drink is trying to ape off of (Kickapoo came out in 1965 with Mountain Dew being the much older drink initially released in 1940, and they both use hillbilly moonshine motifs for marketing). Once again I am greeted with sweetness that hurts the back of my throat, this time with the added bonus of making my teeth and tongue feel fuzzy. But I kept going, and for a moment it grew on me, I thought "Hmm... actually, it's not bad. Maybe with some ice it would be better." Eh, it was a little better with ice, but that moment of mercy soon worn off and I have to admit this soda is just not for me. It loses its carbonation rather quickly so now there is no buffer between the saccharine sweetness ("saccharine" here is used as the adjective, as this soda is made with 100% cane sugar). But now I can tell just what makes Kickapoo Joy Juice different from Mountain Dew: it's citrus flavor is grapefruit.
So really it boils down to this: do you find the idea of a Mountain Dew Fresca appealing? Then try Kickapoo Joy Juice. And it's just a fun name to say.
4/10. It's a bit below average and I may be a little more lenient on it due to the Li'l Abner connection. Would I have another one? Not in the immediate future. And at the end of the day isn't that what any company wants to hear about their product?

Review of Tokidoki Stellina Star Pop
Tumblr media
I’m a tokidoki fan. Yes, I bought this because of the Unicorno on the can. I was excited about the “blue cotton candy flavor” too. Unfortunately I probably won’t buy any more of this, at least not for 4 USD per can.
It tastes… okay. It starts out tart, then it gets a little sweeter. It’s not quite blue raspberry flavor and not quite cotton candy. It’s mediocre versions of both.
⭐️Rating: 4/10. Sugary and drinkable but not that good.

Yeah, it's been a while.
My partner took me out for dinner at Applebee's to use a gift card she got for Christmas. You know I had to try this (it's been exclusive for years, but I don't exactly frequent such establishments.)
Tumblr media
Well, it's Voltage. It's basically Voltage. Not much else to say about it.
My girlfriend says it has a "deeper" flavor than Voltage, but it's hard for me to tell. It's been a while since I'd tasted Voltage, so again, hard to say.
7.5/10. Better than any of the other fountain offerings, certainly.

💗Mtn Dew SPARK: Raspberry Lemonade💗
How refreshing!
The color of the drink isn't a blight to the eyes like most Mountain Dew drinks. It's a soft baby pink, just like a real red berry lemonade. The big warning label-like wrap on the thing and the cyberpunk shaped bottle remind you that this is in fact a Mountain Dew, and contains 0% Juice, but BOY do I not give a shit!
It is TASTY! For lack of a much better word, I'd describe this drink as "watered down". It's fizzy to high hell, but the flavor is just mild enough to make you want to drink more right away instead of waiting 5 minutes like other flavors.
The flavor is very clearly "pink lemonade". There is something VERY familiar about it too. I haven't been able to place it. Otter pops? The frozen Minute Maid lemonade? Mountain Dew's Strawberry Limeade Amp? I got a second bottle to find that mystery nostalgia, but no such luck so far. Good job Mountain Dew for getting more money from me though.
While the flavor is WONDERFUL, I am not a fan of the presentation. Not that Mountain Dew can help it without spending an unnecessary amount of money on rebranding for a one-off drink. But still, the feeling I get from the flavor doesn't match the hardcore look of the bottle. I think this second bottle will be the last I buy, and I'll just make my own raspberry lemonade. Or I'll finally figure out this mystery memory this drink is calling up.
I will be having a great time playing Animal Crossing as I finish this bottle. Great flavor Mountain Dew! Finally a hardcore drink that won't burn my intestines out! (Or at least it doesn't FEEL like it.)

Coca-Cola Dreamworld Review
This was the soda that inspired me to start writing reviews of sodas, it was so terrible that I needed to put my thoughts into words. I saw it in the fridge and wondered what it was, I bought it and brought it home, immediately upon opening you're greeted with the sickeningly sweet smell of fake fruit flavor mixed with cola, the fruit flavor was so artificial that it almost tasted like a diet soda. The almost medicinal flavor of Coca Cola mixed with fruit flavor tastes a bit like cough syrup mixed with juice. If you really want to try this soda or if you liked it I would suggest mixing pineapple juice into coke, it would probably be 100 times better.

Vanilla Caramel Frostop Crème Soda Review
6 out of 10
A lovely sweet aroma was the first thing I noticed after opening this cap. Upon first taste I can tell this is a very sweet soda. I definitely get flavors of both vanilla and caramel. The flavors are very strong. This is a tasty soda for sure. There is some heaviness to it because of the sweetness, so I’m not sure I would get this one super often but a tasty treat nonetheless. The design is fun and gives a 70s vibe. The label notes it has a crème brûlée taste which I think is accurate.

I got this because I haven't had one in like 25 years and I used to like it.
Turns out when I was a kid I had really bad taste. This soda is horrible. It has an off taste like a diet soda but in fact has something like 58 grams of sugar.
The underlying flavor is kind of good though. Or maybe it's just nostalgia.

Parlor, Butterscotch Root Beer
Parlor Beverages out of Wilkes-Barre, PA seems to specialize in the deep flavored postfixed "-beers" of the soda family, having a regular Root Beer, a true to the North East US Birch Beer, a seasonal Pumpkin Root Beer, and today's flavor Butterscotch Root Beer. The butterscotch flavor is deep and rich and plays interestingly with what I would guess is a more traditional wintergreen's bitterness. The drink has a simple sweet butteryness, and as such, I think it pairs very nicely with freshly popped popcorn. If you like sweeter Root Beers I would recommend this one to you, and I intend to try Parlor's regular Root Beer to see if it's more in the herbal tradition. Will report back on that when I can. Another interesting note is you will need a way to open the bottle cap, as it is a regular pop top, and not a screw top. Probably means the soda was bottled at a facility that processes beer, and it was perhaps cheaper, or impossible to have a screw top bottle. As always feel free to check out their website for further details; https://store.drinkparlor.com/

Round Four of the Orca Beverage... challenge? We have Teem, FOR A REFRESHING PICK ME UP
ENJOY
TEEM
LIME
Citrus Refresher
Another citrus soda? Wrong. This isn't a Mountain Dew monstrosity. This isn't another boring old lemon-lime soda. This is Lime. Period. And boy is it ever.
Lemon-lime sodas, I can take them or leave them. Don't @ me about Sprite or 7Up (well, do @ me when they put the lithium back in 7Up), or God forbid Starry. I do not care. Lemon-lime sodas just happen. Lemon-lime soda is for when I want to be "healthy"—it's clear, therefore healthy. So seeing Teem up next I was fully prepared to write this entirely way too long elaborate review about anything but the actual taste and at the end say "It's Sprite 4/10" and move on with my life.
Then I drank it.
Teem is teeming with lime flavored through and through, lemons need not apply. It is ab-so-lutely "a refreshing pick me up" just as advertised. Perfectly crisp, Teem is fresh squeezed effervescent limeade in a bottle. I am pleasantly surprised by the natural taste (no artificial flavorings), which honestly the best part is that tart lime zing at the end of each sip.
A 12 fl oz serving has 36g of sugar, less than the three major citrus sodas, and 40mg of caffeine, which is a little surprising since the citrus sodas are usually caffeine free and 40mg is more caffeine than a Coke or Pepsi.
Teem Lime is an absolute winner. One of these ice cold on a hot summer day? Good. Night.
7/10 My expectations were low, but this is how you do a citrus soda. Mm. That tang gets me every time.

Review of Summit Grape Soda
Tumblr media
So, I do most of my grocery shopping at Aldi. I try not to choose too many sodas-to-review from their store brand, Summit, but these pink and purple bottles caught my eye.
And I’m glad they did! This is a nice classic grape soda. The ingredients list “fruit and vegetable juice for color,” so the pinkish color is probably from those natural dyes. It’s nothing super special, but it’s sweet and refreshing. A solid choice for a grape soda.

Old Fashioned Killebrew Cream Soda Review
Tumblr media
Yep, it's a cream soda review. Never thought I'd do that, but here we are.
My local grocery store keeps advertising these as 10 for $10 and I'd never taken the time to try them out until now. Keen eyes may recognize the name Killebrew as a power player for the Minnesota Twins baseball team, from 1954 to 1975. He's a household name in Minnesota, even for people who don't care about baseball.
Anyway, the beverage. I'll start off with some background - I have never particularly liked cream soda. As a child, I thought it had a disappointingly flat and just "sweet" flavor, and never picked it out when I was given a rare chance to get a soda myself from the store. I recall A&W cream soda tasting just faintly of vanilla, but otherwise overpoweringly, cloyingly sweet. I felt it was too similar other flavors that are meant to taste only like candy/sugary treats (like cotton candy or bubble gum). The only exception to my cream soda dislike were the Dum-Dums cream soda flavored suckers, which I have always loved for their light fruity flavor with a hint of vanilla.
Tumblr media
I am so pleased to report that this Killebrew cream soda tastes almost EXACTLY like the Dum-Dums. I've never actually had a cream soda that tastes like this candy, and I love it. It's sweet, but not too cloying, and while the primary sweetener is still HFCS, the aftertaste is minimal and the flavor doesn't linger on the tongue. A fun fact is that the ingredients say it contains "Pure Minnesota Honey". I'm not sure that I can taste the honey per se, but the flavor is great. The fizz is fairly light, as well.
Honestly, 10/10. I would not mark it as chuggable, but that's because it should be savored.
I have a root beer from this company in my fridge, as well, that I plan to try later. If it's as good as the cream soda, we absolutely have a winner.

🔥Mnt Dew Flamin' Hot Review🔥
I was alarmed at this even existing. My friend, Dylan, sent me a picture of it, and I was foolish enough to think that it was just a meme. At first met with disgust and revoltion at the concept, I decided to face my fears and buy the liquid spice. This, combined with my past horror with Cheetos mac n cheese, set me on edge for trying this devil's concoction. And it is really underwhelming given the excitement.
If you've had Mountain Dew and a candy Hot Tamale, you've can picture a better version of what this drink actually is.
There is little discernible flavor, hardly differentiating with the original Mnt Dew recipe. There is a slight citrus twinge and fruity strawberry-like taste, but I haven't had a basic Mountain Dew in eons (I obsess over the Amp cans though).
The marketing is all out of the Flaming Hot, so how does that stack up? This is the flavor we've come to love from Cheetos, Doritos, and I'm sure some other chip company. Can the Mountain Dew the impossible and put it in a drink??
Eh, kinda. The burn is mild on first taste, but drinking consecutive sips makes the burn compound. It's not much, even at that. The back of my throat feels pricked with pins and needles, and my tongue tingles, but I wouldn't call this a success at implementing the Flaming Hot.
Could they have done it better?? Ehyaaaah, no. I get why the flavor is this way. I'm sure no kid would want to drink an actually spicy bottle of Mountain Dew, or many white people for that matter, and I'm positive Mountain Dew isn't targeting anyone outside those two demographics. It needs to be diluted and underwhelming, that's how you sell these things by the case.
The color is a disgustingly vibrant red, and I look forward to seeing what color my pee turns out to be, but that was a small success given the hype into this.
But it does look cool!
