School Friends - Bradley Hale (Now, Now) Original Demo
The other day I was thinking about how I have a bunch of music saved on my laptop that I downloaded from MySpace and other places when I was a teenager, that no longer exists anywhere online (or at least, no longer easily accessible), and decided I should probably start uploading some of it to youtube just as a way of archiving it. Plus, I've always loved this version of the song. I recorded a cover of it as a teenager that I was extremely proud of at the time, but listening back now, the sound quality is god awful. That one will probably not be posted on youtube...

[Youtube Description]
This is the original version of School Friends, posted on Bradley Hale's MySpace years before it became a Now Now song (appearing on Threads).
The image was also designed by Bradley Hale, posted on Now, Now's tumblr around 2010/11. They were badges sold at their live shows.
Bradley Hale would later release a solo album as Sombear.

Y’all, I’m indecisive on which version to use for The Secret History playlist I’ve been working on. I think I might just use them both. The somber edit in the start and then the regular in the end. To show the contrast of how in the moment things seem so energetic and manic in a fun way of defying society in their little colony outside of the world. And then the more accustom original showing that after everything it was much more stark. Still having some nature based loveliness to it oddly in touching on such complexities as existential topics do, but with the truth of the moral dilemma with the after math of acting too in the moment on such matters. (Same for Thread, as in they could feel in that moment threads of life unraveling but then after, later on, their thread that tied them together.)
It also works for ships of your choosing because really all the ships have that same strange drawing force yet strained energy in some ways of knowing it’s pointless and will end only in pain.
Luna Shadows’ wispy and graceful, breathy and limber voice dances off our ears beautifully as the Los Angeles artist serenades us with her new single, Youth, the title track from a forthcoming sophomore EP. Luna established herself as one of the most fascinating and mysteriously enchanting pop figures from California this past year with her Summertime EP and her dazzling music. It’s obvious she’ll continue her reign as she teams back up with co-producer SOMBEAR (Brad Hale of Now, Now) on this twilight glistering, poignantly compelling electro pop single. Youth is reminiscent of Elohim’s effervescent electronic pop and Mr Little Jeans’ twinkling synthpop. Luna Shadows will be hitting the road this fall on her debut headlining shows, which will kick off in her adopted hometown of Los Angeles at PopShop West on November 29th before wrapping up on December 9th in New York at the Mercury Lounge. Tickets can be purchased, here. Youth is available from iTunes, here.
I can't love you when your hands are on me - lightly
I can't love you when you talk so sweetly - about me
I can't love you when you keep my picture up with you all night
till the morning
I can’t love you in the dark
I can’t love you when the light’s not around
I can’t love you in the dark
I can’t find my way around
I can't love you when you make the sun shine all day and all night
I can't love you when you look so smooth like the moon in the daylight
I can't think about you without feeling high and broken down
at the same time
