I started recording 'Alberta' in the car and in motels during a road trip across western Canada in 2015. I also filmed a lot of footage out of the car window that I was always intending to edit together, and then I never ever got around to it.
Alberta was released on my EP 'Exhaustion' in 2017.
In 2024 I finally married it to the videos I had taken, mainly to get reacquainted with Premier Pro.
It was interesting looking through these clips again due to the snippets of audio. It was mainly us listening to the radio, but sometimes there were bits of conversation. Although it's not in the cut of the song on bandcamp, at the end I included a clip of my dad talking. My dad wasn't able to talk towards the end of his life, and before that his voice had lost its clarity. I'm sure if I looked elsewhere I could find other clips of him talking, surely, but I am grateful that I had this one. Plus it's fun that he's talking about Tim Hortons, given the context of the video.
Exhaustion is available to buy here: https://iamlittlebrother.bandcamp.com...

School Friends - Bradley Hale (Now, Now) Original Demo
The other day I was thinking about how I have a bunch of music saved on my laptop that I downloaded from MySpace and other places when I was a teenager, that no longer exists anywhere online (or at least, no longer easily accessible), and decided I should probably start uploading some of it to youtube just as a way of archiving it. Plus, I've always loved this version of the song. I recorded a cover of it as a teenager that I was extremely proud of at the time, but listening back now, the sound quality is god awful. That one will probably not be posted on youtube...
-------
[Youtube Description]
This is the original version of School Friends, posted on Bradley Hale's MySpace years before it became a Now Now song (appearing on Threads).
The image was also designed by Bradley Hale, posted on Now, Now's tumblr around 2010/11. They were badges sold at their live shows.
Bradley Hale would later release a solo album as Sombear.

For the last two years I've been carrying around an Ilford black and white instant camera in my bag and honestly mostly forgetting I have it, and I finally got it developed yesterday.
To uh, extremely mixed results. But I thought these three were at least striking in their malfunction.

Bryce Savage’s music is a personal fascination of mine, because that man is writing the exact same lyrics over and over and over again to slightly different music each time. Scrolling through his instagram is a surreal experience, as every single song starts with ‘she-‘ and then he describes a woman. She’s got dark or dyed hair, she’s both naughty and nice, horny yet sweet, she’s got a dirty mind, she’s got tattoos and she is pretty but doesn’t know it (with and without make up), she’s bi, etc. He hits the same points every single time and it’s both oddly engrossing and very funny.
On his youtube, I found a song of is that I actually kind of like musically. The lyrics are basically the same as always but the instrumentation is a different style to most of his songs. Because of this I thought it would be both fun and funny to work on a cover. So here it is!
What I learned:
I still think the actual music is fun, I enjoyed playing it and slightly reinterpreting it
It is absolutely mortifying to sing the words ‘be yourself’
Saying ‘she’ over and over again is very weird, I felt like I was leering in on whoever ‘she’ was. Does ‘she’ know I’m singing this song about her? How does 'she' feel about it??
Bryce Savage does actually have a better flow than me. That verse was hard to record.

Here are my albums of the year, printed onto old filofax note paper using a Canon Starwriter 30 computerised typewriter. Aly & AJ would have taken top spot if not for the release of Javelin, and they did win the Spotify wrapped war.

I've always hated using soft pastels so to try and get used to the way they work I decided to practise by drawing random pokemon. (I'm assuming you'll have to click for a higher quality image)
