Hello!!! I'm here to announce a Super Smash Bros. bracket! However, this is no ordinary bracket!

You, yes, YOU all will be sending in characters that YOU want to be in the next Super Smash Bros. game! This is a Smash Ballot! And it's utterly unaffiliated with Sora Ltd. or Nintendo and purely for fun, so now they can't sue!

Just got these in. Possibly the last two Smash amiibo, since I'm really having major doubts about Sora (though, now that I say this, he'll probably get announced in the inevitable September Direct).

If this is the end, it's been a wild ride! Crazy to think it's been going on since late 2014. Ended on a high note, too, being a diehard Xenoblade fan.

4) Do you like to get 100% achievements/trophies?

Depends on the game, really.

For example, I love 100%ing Kirby games to the point I don't consider them done until I do so because the requirements are always tough but reasonable and a lot of fun, but then there are other games where 100% either takes way too long (Souls games), you have to do a lot of stupid and annoying shit for achievements, have to deal with asinine drop rates for collection achievements (Dark Souls 3 and Re:Chain of Memories, especially the latter because to get all the enemy card you have to kill every single type of enemy last in a fight for a minimal chance of their enemy card dropping so it's almost impossible without RNG manipulation), and a lot of that stuff makes me go "oh hell no."

So I'd say it depends on how much I enjoyed the game for me to even want to do 100% and how respectful of my time the requirements are. Majora's Mask is a pretty good example of that because I never planned to do 100% at first but then i loved the game so much I decided to go with it!

6) A series you’ve enjoyed since your early days of gaming and still enjoy to this day whether it still has games coming out or is one you return to

KINGDOM HEARTS. No question.

I've been entrentched in the series ever since I was a child and I always adored it. I think it alone rewired my brain so much and determined a lot of my obsessions! (power of friendship, existentialism/identity crises, clones, people sharing a body, you name it)

It's something that is always in my mind at least in the background and that flares up periodically or when a new game comes out, and I am so excited for the future of the series since it's a whole new direction and despite all the setup there's still so much we don't know!

(and yes I did absolutely scream when Sora got announced for Smash or the KH4 trailer)

Well, I'm playing Engage right now, I already mentioned the brain worms Alear and Veyle give me, so I'm just going to say that I freaking adore Yunaka with all my heart.

28) Pick a series you like. What was the first game you played for it? Was it a good starting point? Would it still be a good starting point now?

For the Kirby series (that shares the throne of favorite franchise along with Kingdom Hearts), Super Star Ultra was my first game!

I'd say it's still a really great introduction as a wonderful remake of one of the pillars of the whole franchise (even if it's a bit clunky compared to the newer games), but it's absolutely one of the best Kirby games (and remakes in general, really) and I think every Kirby fan or anyone interested in getting into Kirby should play it!

Don't think I saw you ever answer this. So, it's been over a year since DLC for Smash Ultimate ended. What are your thoughts on the 11 newcomers that were added in the first and second passes?

I feel like I might have, but I can't find it right now.

The short answer is that I don't really have any thoughts on them in retrospect. I feel like I completely missed the boat on Ultimate, on account of it being such an expensive game.

$60 for the base game, and then $25 for Fighter Pass 1, and $30 for Fighter Pass 2. That makes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a $115 game. That's almost half the price of the Nintendo Switch itself. More than half, if you're talking about the Switch Lite.

For one game.

I have gradually refused to let myself become too invested in thinking about that or else it risks breaking my heart. If I'm being excluded, I'll just go home. A lot of people got their fun out of Smash and moved on now anyway, the only people left are the hardcore ultrafans who consider this their forever game.

If you want something a little more positive and on-topic than that, you could always go back and re-read...

Missing Link trailer w/release window (most likely - but will probably get delayed)

Missing Link trailer w/exact date (less likely - or it gets delayed from that date)

KH Collection on Steam (honestly not sure how likely this is, but it feels like it’s been long overdue)

KH Collection for Switch - Physical (very unlikely - but I’ll always be hopeful for it!)

KH Collection for PS5 (I feel like that would be easy for them to do, but I don’t think it’ll happen atm. Maybe close to KH4’s release)

Sora Amiibo Reveal (kinda likely - it’s the last Amiibo for the Smash series. I can see the reveal at TGS at the very least)

KH4 Trailer - no release date or window (unlikely - but I hope I’m wrong)

KH4 Trailer w/release window (very unlikely, or the very least, they’ll have a release year window)

KHDays Remake (unfortunately not likely - I feel like they’re done with the Nort Saga outside of porting the collection. But god do I want it)

Random Updates

So about a day after I posted Marukis mod on here I wasn’t feeling too great like worse then usual plus some stressful events happening and only started feeling better just a few days ago. I didn’t really get to do too much during that time either modding or gaming but I did play some Three Hopes and i’m not too far but i’m enjoying it and hope to play some more soon, maybe later today, will see as I have a lot of modding plans as well so I’ll probably try to find a good balance of both. I do feel slightly off as I got woken up really early and normally I am up early lately like 4-6AM but haven’t really had as much sleep as I wanted but here I am anyways >.>

I finished making Marukis voice mod a couple days ago and some stuff i’m quite happy with and other things i’m disappointed I couldn’t do like Dr Mario doesn’t have any taunt lines so that limits the amount of quotes I can really give him, he also only has so many grunts and everything since he isn’t a playable character but I managed to make it work. The only thing I hope to do one day is learn how to adjust the camera for him on the victory screen as it pans a lot lower due to it’s aiming at where Dr Mario would be standing but Maruki is much taller. I’m still happy with the mod overall.

Before I worked on Marukis voice mod just to get into the swing of things again, I worked on one of my friends(Dusk) KH mods voices just for some personal touches and one with improves as they agree with that as well. The first one was Winnie the Pooh just changing a couple of lines to some meme ones from KH2 for when he appears and wins (Hello Somebody I-don’t-know) and (Oh bother, what’s this, who is everyone?) he thought it was funny too. I also remade the Ventus mod voice completely as the original person who made it from him only shifted soras pitch of his voice and just threw in a couple voice lines. I know Dusk wasn’t too happy with the final result of the voice either but adding in proper BBS lines made things better and more accurate which is nice. I went through other KH characters and they all sounded good. The last one I worked on was Master Xehanorts voice where I gave him Leonard Nimoys voice in Birth By Sleep and a couple lines from Dream Drop Distance and i’m really happy with the final results of that, Dusk enjoyed it a lot too. There was nothing wrong with the original voice for their mod just was a different VA.

Today I plan to update a lot of my mods since i’ve been behind on that and I just have a folder stockpiled with stuff so I should probably do that before I start anymore model imports (about a month or 2 worth of mods). I plan to also update Blender and the Smash exo tool so that will be interesting and I really hope no issues show up with that. Thinking about it now I have to go through all my plugins on blender and update those too probably so fun >.> After that though my plans for model imports goes as this. First to get the hang of things again plus more familiar with the latest Blender is looking into giving Master Xehanort his armor over Sephiroths wing which I haven’t done before but i’ve seen other mods do that like Jin and Vergil. After Xehanort i’ll finally start Josuke as i’ve really been looking forward to seeing him in Smash plus on why I want to make him as well. I’ve also been in a Battle Network mood since the announcement a bit ago so I might make Megaman.EXE over Corrin after Josuke since I could include the sword and buster plus maybe incorporate the mask with expressions or by replacing parts of Corrins dragon form, will see how it goes. Ever since Maruki i’ve been looking into more custom renders and stock icons so that will be fun to try out. A few other mods i’m trying to find time to start as well are these:

-Zagreus over Dark Pit (I got a custom model and custom weapons although I need to make my own bow and shield but I got ideas on that)

-Black Cat(Marvels Spider-Man) over Sheik(I think ZSS works better but due to no space from other ideas, Sheik works too, also she was the first mod I was ever trying to make so I would really like to make her)

-Tifa (FF7R) over Terry as 2 mods exist for her over Terry but I really want her in that outfit as it’s my favorite design, one custom model of her looks really good but it’s based off of her classic look which is still cool (there is also one mod of her in the remake outfit but it has some issues with the hair and textures plus I want to make a custom render as well so I hope that goes well, i’m confident since I made Law from Tales of Arise already over Terry so I got experience with Terry mods)

-Shinji and Kaworu + Toji over Pyra & Mythra and Toji being Rex(they’ll wield their Eva lances, still debating which outfits to go with, Eva-13 is tempting, Classic plugsuits too and even their casual outfits, one day I can make them all though once Arc the Smash modding plugin updates in the future as I know that is the next update for it but it could take months or even the rest of the year before that’s even released, maybe longer going off of what the devs said)

-Dimitri Time Skip over Byleth (There is 2 Dimitri mods for his Time Skip design in Three Houses and one is over Ike but he looks too pale and I really like the concept better over Byleth, There is a Byleth version but it doesn’t have hand rigging, the skin tone has issues again and the hair is the new game plus hair but I prefer the other hairstyle but still like both(although Three Hopes I like his design a lot too), one day i’ll make Dimitri alts for favoritism lol

-Roll.EXE over Dark Pit (I actually already made her over Pit with a fan model that looked really good but like 2 weeks after I finished her, her official XDiVE model was posted online plus I want to have her on Dark Pit due to space reasons (blame an idea I got for Zoro from One Piece)

Oh and I can’t forget making Yoshikage Kira eventually, i’ll see how Josuke goes before making him, I got some good ideas whenever I get to him either it being not long after Josuke or eventually after I finish some other characters i’ve been really wanting for a long time in Smash. Xehanort and Josuke are my top prioritys plus maybe finding time to look at Zhonglis wing, I would love to put his Archon outfit there but no released model that I can find but I really want to fix the wing as my other friend Cybertron had issues with it at the time.

Honestly, though, the amount of people that said: “I don’t play kh but seeing Sora announced for Smash got me really excited” or “I know nothing about Sora or Kingdom Hearts but that announcement was great” really warms my heart cuz it shows just how prominent Sora is as a video game character and the KH series is as a whole in the video game community. 

Like there’s this strong sense of unity here in the gaming community that I don’t think I’ve seen present in such a long time. 

Sora4Smash really will go down in video game history as one of the most iconic moments and that makes me very happy as a long-term KH fan.

I think it's very telling of Sora's character in that Smash Bros reveal. Everyone's frozen as the world goes dark, but one little flame persists that Mario uses to spread the light and summon Sora in dazzling light that ultimately frees everyone. Usually the DLC characters in their announcements show off their moves and Mario gets wrecked in the process, but not here. Sora flies around smiling and by the end he shakes Mario's hand. He's just a boy that wants to spread the good, and I love him for it.
