Sorority women are amazing and it’s time we got our credit
The world seems to forget that women in sororities do amazing things.  We’re in college and we are pledging ourselves to noble causes and raising money for important philanthropies, like Girls on the Run or Autism Speaks.  We work our butts off to maintain awesome GPAs while looking fabulous. People don’t see that. They just see what happens on the weekends when we let loose.  Many people forget that many notable women making changes in the world today are sorority women.  Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the supreme court justice, was a sorority woman, and she continues to fight for women’s rights.  So the next time you want to tell me that joining a sorority wasn’t one of the greatest decisions of my life and that you would never want to be that trashy, think about what we do.

Recruitment Counselor Experience: Kelsey Olsen
Tumblr media
Let me just start off by saying that joining Greek life is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I have grown into a stronger, wiser, and more compassionate human being because I made the decision to propel myself past the safety of familiarity and into the open arms of the Drury Greek community. Once there, I discovered an amazing group of women forming the sisterhood I call home. I quickly became happier and more fulfilled than I had been since leaving high school a year prior, and I was completely content in my life as an active Greek member. Soon, I realized that I wanted to do more than just simply be a part of my Greek organization— I wanted to inspire other young women to fall in love with the entire Greek community just as I had. At Drury, Greek women are ambitious, noble, intelligent, unique, and courageous; but most importantly, we are connected. Our connectedness makes Panhellenic so special, and so beautifully our own. Being a recruitment counselor opened my eyes to the rarity that is our Panhellenic community. I gained such an appreciation for not only my chapter, but for the other chapters as well. I witnessed first-hand how easily we all bond together as a team, because as disaffiliates we had no choice but to find solace and strength in each other. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of women to encourage me. Whether it was a hard day, an easy day, or just a regular day during work week, the 2017 recruitment team never failed to create an atmosphere of joy and acceptance. On bid day, while standing in front of the FSC holding hands with my newfound friends, I knew that I would do it all again in a heartbeat if it gave me just one more disaffiliated day with those women. Disaffiliation is hard, but the sisterhood you find within the recruitment team is one like no other. Enabling potential sisters to see these connections was such a humbling experience, especially because I also enabled them to find their own homes, just like I did. Just like you did. Running home for a second time is an experience I will cherish even more than the first. Unlike the first time, I had a greater sense of appreciation for what was to come. In those moments, my heart was overflowing with appreciation for Drury, for Greek life, and for all the incredible women I call my sisters. So, take a step outside of the safe, comfortable familiarity of your own chapter. Show Drury women why Greek life is worth pursuing, and allow yourself to fall in love with it all over again throughout the process. I promise it’s an experience you’ll treasure always.

Happy #internationalbadgeday 💕 I am so proud to wear this beautiful badge as it is an honour and a privilege to be a DPhiE Woman. Did you know that Delta Phi Epsilon is the only NPC sorority to put their motto on their badge? This is precious to me because I absolutely love wearing "to be rather than to seem to be" close to my heart. #proudtobedphie #sororitywomen #proudtobepanhellenic 🦄

So pumped for the start of a new year! Make sure to take care of yourself and be kind to your sisters if you are starting recruitment.  Recruitment is about lifting up those future sisters, not tearing women down.  LOVE TO SRAT WOMEN!
