do you happen to know a bit more about it? and maybe in the end it's an addition (towards increasing base value), not exactly a loss (again, only about base value)?
but well. the fs jumps layout are about to look pretty differently, aren't they?..
To be honest my ISU hating posting had nothing to do with the Euler thing lmao but rather with the choreo spin since I hate choreo elements in general. That is I hate their judging because of the fixed BV and ridiculous GOE scale since it opens the door to an even more lax judging.
About the Euler, this is actually correct. Bear in mind that this decision is still pending, but it will 90% go through since it's already in the guideline. As per the phrasing in the guidline combinations such as 2A+1Eu+3S+3T will now be allowed counting as a three jumps jumping pass. This can be a quite interesting change, bringing some variety to the jumping layout we're used to right now. I think seeing a program with let's say 3Lz+1Eu+3S and then a 2A+3T+2T could be fun to see in one program. This is of course ignoring that most skaters make the Euler look like an ugly step out rather than a half-Loop...
The change in BV wouldn't be significant given the small value it had before in my opinion.

This episode they really showed how Uea wants sex to distract himself to make the bad feelings go away for a while and King is the only safe option (not the best way of coping maybe atm but it gets better). Hope they will make him talk about it because I feel many in the audience still don’t understand the link between sex and comfort and coping especially for an abuse victim who always turns to it after triggering events (still think this part is more about the mom, cause whenever the stepdad is part of the trigger he can’t have sex or cuddles ... at least can’t enjoy it as we have seen in this episode). Shortly said, an orgasm gives you dopamine, and it’s all your mind and body focuses on in that moment. Reasons why this could end up in an addiction under the wrong circumstances. Under the right ones it can be therapeutic and have an antidepressant effect.
Uea is a bit torn with King. The caring side of King is an unexpected surprise for him every time. He doesn't really expect kindness from people. But he's glad whenever he receives it from people he trusts. Which King became a part of way too fast for Uea to admit (he’s a player after all). That’s why he rarely shows King his smiles when he’s fond of him. I think the cake scene was one of the rare moments he truly showed him this kind of vulnerability to him (him being truly happy, it’s a delicate feeling easily snatched away under his circumstances). He also took a long time to even understand that King really means it, that this birthday cake is really for him because King really wants to make him happy and he’s allowed to take it. I wonder if the little cake fight and unceremonial bite into the cake is an emotional defense from Uea to not get too deep into vulnerable emotions and turn it into fun / silly & sexy moment instead while still keeping the good vibe.
He’s not ready for an emotional bond with him yet when they clearly stated from the beginning this will just be about sex and they don’t even like each other (we all know that’s a lie). I suspect Uea has trust issues as well since his stepdad always acts nice, caring and misunderstood... so Uea needs a while to learn if people really mean it or if they just want something from him.
I bet that will become a big issue at some point, when they both think the other has no feelings while they secretly do have feelings. I fear Uea will push King away for a while when their feelings get clearer.

I was wondering, why do we use deer iconography so often to depict cryptids and gods and monsters of the wilderness ?
Well first of, it's based on western imagination, culture and lore of course. This plays obviously a major part of it but why ? Why a deer ?
By the way, deer presence in folklore and everything is old, like very old, and common to lots of cultures. Its antlers renewal is associated with rebirth and life and death cycle. And globally deers are seen as a link with the supernatural. What I'm trying to theorise is why, and maybe why still today.
So let's start.
First, the wilderness pictured is the one of nature. The nature untouched, undomesticable by humans. The savage nature, the wild nature. And what is a wild nature in western biome ? The forest. It's the wild element of the western landscape. It's a huge part of folklore because its darkness and density is home of so many creatures and dangers. You can get lost in it, easily. You hold no power in the Forest, etc, etc. The forest is the best way to start a tale isn't it ? Anyway, that's the first point : magic and secrecy, everything cryptid and other fairies and land monsters, are linked to the Forest.
And what do we find in a forest ? Well lots of things (and I'm only speaking about wildlife here, so not vegetation). Bears, wild boars, lots of different birds with a lot of variety, rabbits, wolfs and foxes... And of course deers.
So why deers and deer-particularities specifically are so much used and appreciated ? There is so many other animals to use ! So here is what I think, and it's really is just an idea, a simple take on the matter :
Deers are beautiful creatures. They are majestic, mighty. They're also skittish and fast. Finding a deer is hard. This two points put them in two cases of common imagination.
They are regal : it puts them in a "king of the Forest" sort of position. Especially since their antlers are associated with royalty. It's the symbol of a good hunter and who liked to hunt ? Kings. So yeah, they're heavily associated with royalty and power, must it be as a symbol or because of their appearance and grace.
They are hard to meet and good at hiding : it put them in the "supernatural" case, the fantastic aspect of the Forest. Here and not here. Watching you but impossible to see. As if they were at two places at once. Present but never where you look.
So that's already two aspects in their favour for being associated to a godlike creature of the Forest.
But there is also something else. Because a bear or a wolf could have similarities in a way or the other. So deers have something else.
They are dangerous but not carnivorous. They are a prey, not a danger for the Forest. Not a danger for the Forest inhabitants. A danger for us. And where does this come from ? Easy : the deer's slab. You hear them from far away, they are noisy like all hell. And it is kind of terrifying. Plus they're also fighting. And it will be dangerous if you get too close because they will attack. Not to eat. Not because they're hurt or because of their instincts specifically. It practically feels like they are angry at you (because it does sound like they are angry at something or each other or well you know anything and everything really, deer's slabs are impressive as hell). And so they can be seen as forces you should not mess with. Forces that will only attack each other or invaders of their territory, protectors.
Mighty, very hard to find, protectors living in the Forest. Oh and very easily identified thanks to their unmistakable antlers.
It's in fact no wonder why deer iconography is so used to depict the Forest (and wilderness at large) dangers, secrets and power.

Imagine Wolf 359, but in all the time spent on a spaceship with literally only 4-5 people and one of them is Doug Eiffel, none of the crew speak coherent english there's so many inside jokes and slang because that shit catches on fast in a small group and they literally haven't talked to any other human beings in over a year.

truly one of the greatest failures of the english language is that there is no good word for someone who makes/studies calendars. 'calendar maker' and 'horologist' both simply do not cut it.

All of the comments on the Law and Crime YouTube channel are disgusting. To watch a woman visibly cringe and choke up on her words while she struggles to describe a violent physical and sexual assault committed against her and then comment about how she looks, how she sounds, how many tears roll down her cheek to immediately discredit her? Shameful. Some of us feel dead inside and shut down when we describe traumatic events.

believing a single gotcha (or maybe a bullet-point list of them) is not just an adequate refutation to a fairly comprehensive theory but also support for an opposing political position is something that I'd think would obviously signal disengagement from all the discussion surrounding the theory in question. like, I remember mormon high schoolmates who would "debunk" evolution and so "prove" intelligent design in one swoop by referencing "the missing link" — that's my frame of reference for this class of rhetoric — and even then it was clear these kids did not have any kind of a counterexplanation for anything biology or genetics or what have you was trying to explain. what they had was a fun fact that they had memorized and which they had a ridiculous amount of faith in. I don't know how people keep thinking like that into adulthood with issues that are supposedly deeply important but somehow not worth learning about.

Translation and multilingualism: two realities destined to understand one another.
Tumblr media
There are currently more than two hundred nations in the world, many of them with their own language. According to the specialist magazine Ethnologue, there are more than 7,000 languages spread around the world, making the existence of language barriers in a highly globalized and heterogeneous society undeniable.
International translation appeared hundreds of years ago as a solution that enables people from different parts of the world to understand one another. We see this in all walks of daily life and facets of society; indeed, it is indispensable for economics, politics science and education.
Diplomacy is another area in which translation has proved crucial. The First World War showed that without a connecting bridge, it was impossible to establish free-flowing relations between countries. Translation and interpreting thus came to support each other mutually, a relationship that persists to this day.
More recently, digital transition and innovation have made linguistic mediation ever more necessary. The creation of a world without barriers is possible only with the exchange of information, one of the cornerstones of science. In this area, specialist translators work with magazines, articles and studies to facilitate dissemination.

Normalize not writing books about languages when your opinions on them are this bad. SMH this white guy just suggested that Khmer, a language spoken by 18.4 million speakers, is basically a pidgin. Feeling incredibly justified about getting most of my information about Khmer via Thai language sources. Those countries have long term historical beef and yet I’ve never heard a Thai call Khmer a pidgin

what is it? movements of hands, body language and facial expressions instead of spoken words used by people who are deaf or have a hearing impediment
its thought to be older than spoken word and dates back to the 5th century.
it has been invented by many people around the world because it developed differently in different areas of the world at different times.
its not universal and even in british sign language there are differences in regional dialects in sign language.
british sign language is a language in its own right and has its own vocabulary, grammar and word order:
in english:
q: what is your name?
a: my name is hannah
but in british sign language:
q: what-name?
a: name me hannah
earliest record of british sign language (BSL) is 1576 in church records of a marriage ceremony. but up until 1970's signlangugae wasnt encouraged.
for over 87,000 british deaf people, BSL is their first language, its estimated 125000 adults and 20000 children use BSL.
BSL interpreters enable communication between deaf sign language users and hearing people.
facial expressions are used to show the mood of the converstaion or topic instead of tone of voice.
hands-on BSL is available for people who are hard of hearing and have a visual impediment.
SSE is sign supported english and its when someone is signing and speaking english at the same time, but this tends to follow the same grammatical rules as english
Makaton is a simplified way of signing and often used with children.
i now have a better understanding of british sign language and feel i can research the topic more deeply as i can understand the basic fundamentals. i have questions i want to ask and answer and this should help me attempt to understand the needs of this community better.
