Does Egon worry that Janine will ever find him inadequate? —an ask from @janeb984

This is such a compelling question. I love imagining elaborate head canons, but character questions like this are possibly even more interesting to me.

I think that Egon is most worried about failing to give Janine the attention that she deserves.

I think that Egon is mostly content with his place in life. I don’t think he is insecure about common foibles—like he doesn’t worry about how he compares to her ex boyfriends. He’s confident in his intelligence and probably too humble about his looks, but he doesn’t worry because he can’t easily change those things anyway.

But he knows that ghostbusting is a demanding, dangerous career. It’s his life��s calling. Sometimes he feels like he can’t be both a good partner and a good Ghostbuster. He tries to do his best to put his energy into both, and he ends up feeling inadequate.

Occasionally he feels bad because he has to work on an anniversary or birthday. Or he is so drained from work that he needs to decompress alone in the lab and can’t meaningfully engage with Janine. He knows that stuff disappoints her. So he finds ways to make it up to her—flowers, chocolates, a day at the museum, etc.

A question about cuddling! My thoughts:

Janine usually initiates the cuddles.

Typical day: It’s 7am. Egon has already gotten up to brush his teeth and grab the newspaper. Janine rolls over to find him reading. She pulls him into a cuddle. He subtly tries to turn it into more than just cuddling. 🙃 But they have to get to work, so there’s barely any time for cuddling or anything else.

That being said: When Egon isn’t feeling well, he turns into a big baby who wants lots of cuddles. He even lets Janine be the big spoon sometimes! Like when he comes home from a particularly intense bust and his muscles are all achy, there’s nothing better than a warm shower and cuddling in bed until he falls asleep.
