Dog Sanctuary Owner Kakashi Au

Rescuing the Hounds

Pakkun is the only hound Kakashi doesn’t save. He’s a service dog given to Kakashi after the car accident that took his left eye, and has been with Kakashi for years.

Bull was a rescue from an abandoned house. Left behind when his owners left, bull was left with a bowl of dry food and water. It took three days for the neighbor’s to realize he was still there and call the sanctuary. No one else wanted to go in because they didn’t know if the big dog was safe to approach. When Kakashi and Gai step into the house, bull rushes to them and begins jumping up excitedly. Kakashi has never seen a more excited dog. Gai ends up carrying Bull out of the house and holding him while Kakahsi examines an injury on his foot from stepping on some glass from a broken cup he knocked off of the counter.

Akino is a rescue from dog races. Although many of them take great care of their dogs, Aknio was raised by someone who abused him a lot. Kakashi and Gai were called in by another dog racer, and ended up getting enough proof of Akino’s treatment to have him taken from his owner and placed into their sanctuary. Akino still loves to run around the sanctuary, but he never races anymore.

Bizuke was the dog left behind by a family who couldn’t take him when they moved. When he was given to the sanctuary the little girl who he belonged to cried, begging her parents to take him with them to their new home in another country. To ease her hurt Kakashi gave the family his email and told them to message him when they settled down, promising to take lots of pictures so that they could see how bizuke was doing. The little girl messages Kakashi at least once a week asking about bizuke, and when she gets a new dog for her new home she emails Kakashi and thanks him for taking such good care of her first dog.

Shiba was a born stay. He was in a litter of puppys found in a dumpster by someone and brought to Kakashi’s sanctuary. Kakashi stayed up for days with the pups feeding them, washing them, and doing everything he could to help them survive. One of the pups did end up dying, but Shiba and his sister pulled through. Although Shiba’s sister ended up being adopted out, shiba prefers to stay with Kakashi, always hanging by his side and making it clear he does not want to be taken from the sanctuary.

Ūhei was a young pup belonging to an older woman. She had only just gotten him a few months ago before tragiclly passing away. Her son came over for a visit one day and found ūhei sitting on the edge of her bed guarding her. Ūhei was brought to the sanctuary by the son (Genma) because he couldn’t take the dog in himself but he knew he would have a safe home with Kakashi. (gai had waxed poetics about him since starting work at the dog sanctuary). Kakashi makes sure to take Ūhei to the cemetery where his old owner was buried at least once a week and lets him sit on her grave. Sometimes he cries, sometimes he just sniffs the stone and lays down like he would on her lap.

Guruko was an older stray rescued from the streets. He was rescued by Gai in the middle of a rain shower. Gai was on his morning jog when Gueuko came up to him and started sniffing his pockets. It was then that Gai remembered he always carries dog treats on him and forgot to take them out for his run. He offers Guruko a treat and uses the distraction to look for a collar. When he doesn’t find one he decides to take Guruko to the sanctuary so Kakashi can see if there’s a micro chip. Kakashi does find one, but it leads him to a family living five hours away from them. Kakashi contacts them and finds out that they lost Guruko five years ago and had given up searching. He asks if they still want him, but they had already found a new dog by this point and adjusted to having that one with the family, so Guruko stays with Kakashi and Gai at the sanctuary and always goes for a morning jog with Gai.

Urushi is a pup brought in by Gai’s father after one of his trips. He found the little guy hiding in a storm drain refusing to come out, and only managed to coax him out after calling Gai for some help. By the time he got the dog to Kakashi and Gai, Urushi was really sick with worms and a respiratory infection. It took a lot of work on Kakashi’s part, but Urushi managed to pull through and bonded really well with Shiba, to the point where the two of them refuse to be separated. Kakashi immediately called up Tenzo for another dog house to be built onto his properly, and started buying all of the necessary toys and equipment for Urushi at his home.

Quinn Hughes was a figure in your life for years. You practically grew up with him. He was teammates with your brother, Brady, who was only a year older than you. Both of your brothers were amazing hockey players and Quinn was as well. You didn’t get to attend school with Brady or Quinn, Brady had moved away to go play with the NTDP team. Matthew had done the same.

With two older brothers in the NHL and being the daughter of a former NHL player, it was easy to say that you had enough hockey boys in your life. But every summer, you find yourself surrounded by them. Your summers were spent at the lake house owned by the Hughes family. Your parents always visited after the school year ended, you and your sister in tow. Sometimes, Taryn opted out due to her having her own plans and friends for the summer.

That’s when you met Quinn. Both of you probably wanted to ignore what awkward and cringey look you two sported at the time. Quinn never looked at you as more than Brady’s younger sister.

As time went along and you grew up, Quinn would see photos of you on social media, maybe you’d be at a game once in a while or at dinner afterwards. But every photo he saw of you, you just got more beautiful. And every dinner he sat across the table from you, he couldn’t help but look at you as you laughed at something one of your brothers said or did.

There was one time, last year, December 2022, after Brady and Emma had been engaged, when you had gone to see Matthew play against Vancouver. You didn’t know what came over you, but you had texted Quinn. Quinn was not used to random texts from you. It was mainly birthday texts or random pictures that popped up in a Snapchat memory.

“I’m in Vancouver for the game, dinner tonight?”

Before responding to your text, Quinn thought about it. He was never one to have an attraction to a friend’s sister. But he had to admit that you were beautiful. You were no longer just Brady’s younger sister. You were just you.

He agreed to dinner and after the game, which ended in a loss, he asked if Matthew was joining. “He declined to join,” you informed Quinn. Matthew was busy celebrating the win against the Canucks. Plus, you were practically traveling with the team for the week, you had seen enough of Matthew.

It was an awkward dinner at first and then it came to a normal conversation, chatting about how things had been and how you were doing. The conversation fell to the wedding. “I think Emma is going to ask Taryn and I to be in the wedding at Christmas,” you took a swig of your glass of wine.

“Brady already asked me to be in it,” Quinn almost bragged. “Well at least we can be hopeful to be paired up to walk down the aisle. At least I know you won’t let me trip.”

Quinn didn’t really hear from you again until the week of the wedding. Your parents were high strung, trying to make sure Brady had the perfect wedding. Matthew and you had been passing a bottle of vodka between the two of you all night when Quinn arrived with his family.

“Matthew, (Y/N), always lovely to see you!” Ellen and Jim Hughes greeted. “How drunk are you?” Quinn leaned over and asked. “I had to deal with the wedding stress somehow,” you laughed.

“And you aren’t even the bride,” Quinn teased.

“Not this time,” you mumbled.

The next coming days were a blur. At the rehearsal dinner, you were paired with Quinn. “Make sure my sister doesn’t fall Hughes!” Matthew warned, slightly overprotective as Quinn held out his arm for you. You couldn’t help but stifle your laughter as Quinn tensed up for a second but relaxed when you leaned over to whisper to him.

“Don’t pay attention to him, he won’t do anything unless he catches us kissing or something.”

At the rehearsal dinner, Taryn got to make her speech. Brady had asked Matthew and you to do one tomorrow at the actual wedding. Throughout the whole rehearsal dinner, all you could do was stare at Quinn. Maybe it was the wine.

The next day was the actual wedding and you didn’t see much of Quinn. The girls were talking in the bridal party area as everyone got their hair done. “What about you (Y/N)? Anyone special in your life?” Emma’s cousin asked.

Your face felt hot. “No, not really.”

Quinn almost froze when he saw you for the first time right before the wedding started. “You look, uh, beautiful,” he stuttered out. “Thanks Quinn, you clean up nice too.” You adjusted his boutonniere to be straighter.

After the ceremony, you were dragged over to the open bar by Josh Norris. He was talking to you about needing to get breakfast with you tomorrow, saying he missed you. You didn’t allow yourself to get too drunk until after your speech.

After your speech, your face was warm and red. The open bar at the wedding was being used to your advantage. Your wine glass never seemed to become empty. You were tired of talking to your parents or family members. Brady was too enamored by Emma to come to talk to you, you couldn’t blame him though. It was his wedding and your non sister-in-law looked beautiful. You ended up at Table 8, visiting with the boys. “Wanna go on a walk Quinn? I need fresh air.” you asked lowly.

Quinn walked you outside, his arm looped in yours. You had been drinking wine most of the night. Maybe it was the alcohol talking or maybe it was feelings that had never come to light after years of knowing one another.

The two of you paused, looking out at the night sky where the ceremony had been held. Quinn looked over at you as you spoke softly about the day. His eyes flickered down to your lips. “Quinn, you okay?” you whispered. You wanted him to kiss you badly.

“We should go back before I do something Brady kills me for,” Quinn whispered, lips hovering above yours.

“What he doesn’t know won’t kill him,” you spoke softly.

A knock on Quinn’s door woke him up. Most of the family and wedding party were all staying in the same hotel. Quinn scrambled out of bed, glad that he at least had boxers on. He was barely awake when he cracked open the door.

Matthew stood there. “Sorry to wake you, have you seen (Y/N)? Brady and Emma leave in an hour and my parents want some send off from us.”

“I haven’t seen her since last night, sorry,” Quinn said tiredly. “It’s cool, I’ll check with Josh, I think they said something about getting breakfast together last night.”

Quinn shut the door and took a deep breath. You had woken up at the first knock but didn’t make a movement when your older brother was at the door. As soon as you heard the door lock shut, you threw the blankets off of your head.

You wore Quinn’s dress shirt as a nightgown. Your hair was no longer neat and your bridesmaid dress was draped on the back of the chair in the room. Your shoes were kicked off in minutes last night but you were nervous about getting the dress ruined so Quinn had stopped his actions last night to drape the dress on the back of the chair instead of crumbled on the ground, before returning to you in bed.

“Do you think he knew I was in here?”

yourusername i'm elated to announce that during my eighteen weeks sonogram, a third future little chaos creator was discovered🤍

the best mom in the world came with us to find out the genders for our gender reveal party (planned by yours truly with mom and taryn <3), and trevor and i cried tears of absolute joy when we found out that we'll be having all girls!

trevor and i put a lot of thought into the names for our girls. since trevor's got some greek in him, we thought it would be cute to pick out names with greek origins!

"pheobe" means bright, radiant, and she was a titaness as the goddess of intellect

"katerina" is a derivative of the greek word katharós, which means pure (plus, she's a character in the vampire diaries, and the originals' saying is that family is "always and forever")

and "evangeline," even though it's also from english origin, still has greek roots. it's a combination of the words evangelos, which means good news, and elen, which means shining. the news that we'll be having a third girl is so good, so we feel that it fits perfectly<3

thank you to everyone that flew in for the day! it means the absolute world to trevor and i and i'm so beyond lucky to have each and every one of you🩷

quinn, jack, and luke, you three are going to be the most amazing uncles. our girls will never know a world without love; not like i did. you three gave me love. you showed me what it was like to have a family, to have friends. i know we fight and argue and tease each other relentlessly, jack and i a little more than the rest of us do with each other, but we're still each other's best friends. we'd do anything for each other and have proven that time and time again. if my girls are even a fraction as close as we are, they'll be the luckiest girls in the world.

griffin and ava, i know we aren't as close as i'd love to be, but seeing you two today for the first time since we told you both the news made my heart so warm. you're both going to be such great influences for the girls and i hope that their eyes light up when i tell them that uncle griffin and aunt ava are coming to see them!

cole, alex, and jamie, trevor and i put a lot of thought into choosing you three as godfathers and i know we made the best decision possible with you guys. you've all become some of the most important people in our lives, both individually and as a couple. i hope that the girls grow up to have their own cole's and alex's and jamie's, because i know i'm a better person with all of you by my side. i love you three!

i could go on and on and make individual messages for everyone, and i won't, but my own twin needs a little extra love. jack, we might not be twins by blood, but we are by our souls. we were meant to meet each other and to live on the same street as kids. we were meant to grow up together and figure out who we are as people with each other by our sides. no one knows me like you do. not trevor, not quinn, no one. i hope the girls have that. i hope the girls can read each other's minds with just one look, i hope they have secrets that will die with them, i hope they fight for each other even more than they fight with each other (and know that they do it out of love). most of all, i hope that they earn the nickname "triplets of terror," even though no one does that better than us. i love you insanely🫶

Jackson Avery - Cherished In Secret

Summary: Having that one person to come home to in secret, still feels like home, right?

There were moments where you didn't know how to act, how to just...be. At moments it could feel as if it was all so complicated, even frustrating when you failed at a single suture.

But to lighten everything, there were also moments of laughter, happiness, and joy. The joy you felt whenever you were around your friends, friends that always had your back.

Whenever and wherever.

Although your friends did not always know everything, some parts of your life that you'd rather keep to yourself, were the parts they didn't know about.

But whenever all of you had finished your jobs for the day, there was one thing left to do, and that was all of you getting ready to leave the hospital and enter Joe's for having a few drinks and say whatever happened that day

Or talk about what happened when all of you weren't together or were too busy living your own lives besides being a medical intern. At times it could feel like coming home, while all of you were just sitting and laughing around a table.

"Taryn, Never have I ever thrown up on another person?" Levi watched his friend's face change into disgust.

"Levi, please-" Nico started.

"Are you serious?" You stared at your male friend with an amazed expression.

"What? You all wanted to play this game, so?" He watched Taryn searching for an answer to his question.

"Yeah, once, twice actually, Y/n was the first person to go through the horror event, and then...Casey was the second." Taryn sighed, watching all of you stare at her. "I'm not proud of it, okay? I still feel bad for it."

"Nico, you're next!" You sarcastically smiled at your friend, the friend you could hate at times, but still, he was your friend, unconditionally. "Never have I ever played strip poker."

The table ooh'd at your sudden wave of confidence. Noticing Nico's flustered face as he heard your question that was directed straight at him.

"Yeah, I did." He answered, shrugging his shoulders, doing his best to keep on a strong expression on his face.

"And?" Taryn took a sip of her beer, waiting for her friend to start explaining any further details.

"I won?" Nico shrugged his shoulder, noticing not one of you believed anything of what he said. "I lost, okay? I lost, ended up in my underwear, and a walk of shame, can we move on?"

"We sure can, but we're not done talking about this," Taryn spoke, pointing at Levi with her beer bottle. "Never have I ever worked with someone I couldn't stand."

Levi pretended to be in deep thought, thinking about an answer to the question that he'd just been asked. "No offense, but I work with all of you, that's already frustrating at times."

"Wow, way to go, Levi." You shook your head at your friend's answer, yet you loved the way all of you could say these sorts of things and yet still laugh and support each other unconditionally. "You're lucky I love you."

"Well, you're also lucky because the next question is directed at you." Nico smiled, fiddling with a card on the table. "Never have I ever kept a crush secret from people in this room."

And this is where he got you good, he got you good at a point and a fact where you had to find a way out. A way out, to not put everything you had built up in secret on the line.

To put it on the line for a stupid game of 'Never Have I Ever' with your friends. It was not the case that you didn't want to tell them, it was just nice to have something for yourself, something you didn't feel like sharing.

"I have never." You lied, looking all of your friends in the eyes, trying your best to make them believe you, which wasn't one of the hardest things to do. "I'd never be able to keep such a thing for myself, so no."

It seemed as if everyone was doubting you, but after a few seconds, they started smiling and nodding their heads, noticing your serious behavior, and suggesting you were speaking the truth.

Suddenly your phone started vibrating, and that was enough for you to know it was time to finish the night with your friends and get safe in your other secret bubble.

"Dr. Wilson asked me to come in early tomorrow, so I think I'm gonna head home, take a shower and just go to sleep for the day." You said, putting on your coat, and placing some money on the table, to make the lying somehow okay.

"Oh...okay?" Taryn furrowed her eyebrows, sharing a confused glance with your other two friends.

"Sure...see you in a few hours then?" Nico asked, receiving a nod from you.

"Yeah, we'll see you tomorrow, y/n" Levi smiled.

"See you tomorrow then." You took your purse and walked out of Joe's, pulling your coat somehow tighter around your body, because the cold weather, wasn't just it.

Taking your phone out of your coat pocket, you scrolled through all your messages, searching for any new message he'd sent you meanwhile, but you didn't see anything.

"So, you lied again to them?" A voice spoke up behind you, startling you somehow out of your concentration.

"My god- well, yeah, yeah I did, why?" You frowned, staring up into Jackson's eyes, trying your best not to smile.

"You've been lying to them for 3 months now, why don't you just tell them?" Jackson asked, taking a hold of your hand.

"I like keeping us and you to myself, is that selfish?" You released his hand and placed both of your hands on each side of his face, softly smiling. "They'd freak out if they would know."

"I get it, I feel the same way." Jackson smiled and kissed your forehead, taking once again hold of your hand as you both started walking into the night.

Thoughts while reading The Prisoners Throne Excerpt

Here's a rushed annotation of some parts of the excerpt that really drew my attention. Jurdan fans be ready for many surprises.

"Imagine you have a weapon. They had been in Vivi’s second apartment, standing on a small metal balcony. Inside, Taryn and Vivi had been fussing over Leander, who was learning to crawl. The Ghost had asked about Oak’s training and been uninterested in the excuse that he was eleven, had to go to school, and couldn’t be swinging around a longsword in the common space of the lawn without neighbors getting worried."

(this is a flashback) Taryn’s child makes their first debut!! Taryn named the boy Leander. (I’m assuming its a boy name) Since the Ghost is in Vivi’s apartments could that be a hint that he’s romantically involved with Taryn? Or it could also be that he’s accompanied Taryn to protect her. It's super cool to see The Ghost and Oak training together.

"Oak had actually liked making his own sword. It was huge and black with a bright red hilt covered in demonish faces. It looked like the sword of someone in an anime he’d been watching, and he felt like a badass, holding it in his hands. The sight of Oak’s blade had made the Ghost smile, but he didn’t laugh. Instead, he started moving through a series of exercises, urging Oak to follow. He told the prince should call him by his non‑spy name, Garrett, since they were friends."

Love that Holly is still referencing anime in the Elfhame series. Can we also talk about The Ghost’s character development? In TFOTA series he always kept to himself, and now he’s letting his closest friends call him by his real name.

"The prince has been imprisoned three weeks, according to the tallies he’s made in the dust beneath the lone bench. Long enough to dwell on every mistake he has made on his ill‑fated quest."

THREE WEEKS??? What the heck have Jude and Cardan been doing for three weeks??? I honestly expected for him to be rescued asap. If anything Jude and Cardan have been carefully planning to save oak and I guess that takes a lot of time.

"His family must be in a panic right now. He trusts that Tiernan got Madoc to Elfhame safely, no matter what the redcap general wanted. But Jude would be furious with Tiernan for leaving Oak behind and even angrier with Madoc, if she guesses just how much of this is his fault."

I really want to see someone from Elfhame’s POV on Jude finding out on Oak being taken prisoner by Wren. I want to see a raging Jude. I’d be terrified to be in Tiernan’s place, since it was his job to protect Oak, and he failed that.

"Possibly Cardan would be relieved to be rid of Oak, but that wouldn’t stop Jude from making a plan to get him back. Jude has been ruthless on Oak’s behalf before, but this is the first time it’s scared him. Wren is dangerous. She is not someone to cross. Neither of them are."

OHH??? OHHH???? So many things are thrown at us here. Oak has a reason to believe that Cardan doesn’t like him??? To the point where Oak believes Cardan would even be RELIEVED to get rid of him? That was SUPER unexpected. Oak finally takes it in that neither Wren or Jude are people to cross. As much as I hate saying this, I want a Jude and Wren fight. That would be amazing. Not saying I want either of them to die, or get hurt, but that would be an intense scene.

“I can do better,” he says. “And perhaps you might bring me a little gossip to cheer the chilly monotony of my days.” “You’re very silly, Your Highness,” she says after a moment, biting her bottom lip a little.

Oak is using his most dangerous power, seduction. Screaming.

"He remembers Oriana’s warning to him when he was a child. A power like the one you have is dangerous, she said. You can know what other people most want to hear. Say those things, and they will not only want to listen to you. They will come to want you above all other things. The love that a gancanagh inspires—some may pine away for desire of it. Others will carve the gancanagh to pieces to be sure no one else has it."

I'm so glad holly is diving deep into this, We know that Locke also had this power, and how he was wielding it in TFOTA series.

"That night, he wakes to the sight of a snake crawling down the wall, its black metal body jeweled and glittering. A forked emerald tongue tastes the air at regular intervals, like a metronome. It startles him badly enough for him to back up against the bars, the iron hot against his shoulders. He has seen creatures like it before, forged by the great smiths of Faerie. Valuable and dangerous. The paranoid thought comes to him that poison would be one straightforward way to solve the problem of his being held by an enemy of Elfhame. If he were dead, there’d be no reason to pay a ransom."

Oak sees this snake, and he immediately thinks it was sent from elfhame to kill him. Which is insane for him to believe that.

"He doesn’t think his sister would allow it, but there are those who might risk going around her. Grima Mog, the new grand general, would know exactly where to find the prince, having served the Court of Teeth herself. Grima Mog might look forward to the war it would start. And, of course, she answered to Cardan as much as Jude."

"Not to mention there was always the possibility that Cardan convinced Jude that Oak was a danger to them both."

WHAT IS THIS DISAPPROVAL CARDAN HAS ON OAK?? The fact that Oak believes Cardan sent the snake to KILL HIMM, that's absolute madness. Like what the helll did this man do to Oak to make him feel this way?? Cryingggg.

"It yawns widely enough for him to see silver fangs. The links of its body move, and a ring comes up from its throat, clanging to the floor. He leans down and lifts it. A gold ring with a deep blue stone, scuffed with wear. His ring, a present from his mother on his thirteenth birthday and left behind on his dresser because it no longer fit his finger. Proof that this creature was sent from Elfhame. Proof that he was supposed to trust it."

THIS IS THE RING THAT'S ON THE COVER!! Now we know what the ring means to Oak!!

“Prinss,” it says. “In three daysssss, you mussss be ready for resssss‑cue.” “Rescue?” Not here to poison him, then. The snake just stares with its cold, glittering eyes.

Okay so Jude sent a snake as a messenger to Oak, to let him know that they're coming to save him in three days. Cool….coool.

“Give me longer,” he says, no matter that it’s ridiculous to negotiate with a metal snake and even more ridiculous to negotiate for his own imprisonment, just in order to get a chance to speak with someone who refuses to see him. “Two more weeks perhaps. A month.”

THIS STUBBORN BOYYYYYY. Oh I know Jude would be absolutely furious for that.

"Oak slides the ring onto his pinkie finger, watching the snake as it coils its way up the wall. Halfway to the ceiling, he realizes that just because it wasn’t sent to poison him doesn’t mean it wasn’t sent to poison someone."

BIG MISTAKE MISTER SNAKE, BIGGGGG MISTAKEEEE.

He jumps onto the bench and grabs for it, catching the end of its tail. With a tug, it comes off the wall, falling against his body and coiling around his forearm. “Prinsssss,” it hisses. As it opens its mouth to speak, he notes the tiny holes in the points of its silvery fangs. When it does not strike, Oak pries the snake carefully from around his arm. Then, gripping the end of its tail firmly, he slams it down against the stone bench. Hears the cracking of its delicate mechanical parts. A gem flies off. So does a piece of metal. He whips it against the bench again.

Oak really said “oh hell no, you're not killing the women i love, nah uh,” and then proceeds to kill it in a very violent unsettling manner. Everyone was right when they said that Oak was like Madoc.

Straun spits on the floor in front of the prince’s cage. “No amount of gold or gems will save you. If my winter queen wants you to rot here, you’re going to rot.” “Your winter queen?” Oak repeats, unable to stop himself. The falcon looks a little shamefaced and turns to go back to his post. He’s young, Oak realizes. Older than Oak, but not by so very much. Younger than Hyacinthe. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Wren made such an impression on him. It shouldn’t bother Oak, shouldn’t fill him with a ferocious jealousy.

THE JEALOUSY HAS ME CACKLING. He was imprisoned, neglected in his cell by wren and yet he's jealous whenever someone else has lovey dovey eyes for wren. This man is so down for wren, and I don’t blame him.

The Ghost taught him how to move stealthily, but he’s never been very good at it. He blames his hooves, heavy and hard. They clack at the worst possible times. But he makes an effort, sliding them against the floor to minimize noise.

Super cool to see how much The Ghost has impacted Oak's skills. The court of shadows in general has been a huge part in Oak’s training and it shows.

Oak moves fast, jerking Straun backward and covering his nose and mouth with the cloth. The guard struggles, but inhaling blusher mushroom slows his movements. Oak presses him to the floor until he’s unconscious.

THERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Welp, The excerpt ends in Oak escaping his cell…..after all thar chaos i've become too impatient. Just 3 Months until this book comes out !!!

[Book of Chenglei Lore and Official Design]

═══════*.·:·.✧ ✦ ✧.·:·.*═══════

[This lore is TWST off of Cardcaptor Sakura by Mod Auniro because she wanted to be a cardcaptor]

The Book of Chenglei was once owned by a powerful magician from another world named Chenglei Shuijing many centuries ago. He was known to be a mysterious and spontaneous man who's unique magic capabilities involved giving life to magical entities, known as Lux Spirits, that are an embodiment of a magic spell created from remaining pieces of wandering souls and a hybrid of Western and Eastern magic, keeping them inside as magical cards and secured them inside his magical book.

However one day, he was punished by a God, the punishment meant that his long life span will be cut short for stealing a soul from the underworld. Due to this, Chenglei seeks fortune telling from Oracle concerning his fate. Oracle had foretold Chenglei that once he dies, his magical energy will be passed onto his successors while his soul gets reincarnated. Chenglei understood and decided to prepare a test for his successors in the future and let them inherit his book. He had told Sorin, the Sunlight Lux Spirit, to sleep inside the book in order to become the successors' companion for the test. He had also announced his family about his fate and told his one and only son, Xander, the Moonlight Lux Spirit, to watch over the family while he's gone and Sorin is away, then gave him a special brooch that can notify him that the book has been opened.

After all the preparations are completed, Chenglei had passed away and his magic book is kept inside an interdimensional library where it will wait for the first successor to open it, waiting patiently for the test to start in order to prove that Chenglei's successors are worthy of becoming the new masters of the Lux Spirits.

"Wow this library looks so old." Auniro mused and wandered inside the library of a bookshop, looking around if anything piques her interest or maybe trying to find a Psychology book that she can read and mess with her friends with. Wandering around the aisle of bookshelves, her ears heard a ticking sound of a clock, making the petite girl with glasses turn her head to try to find the source, only to see a thick dark blue book with gold details that piqued her eyes.

Auniro's curiosity got the best of her and pulled the book off of the shelf, dusting off the dirt a bit then her eyes widened at awe to see the book cover to have a design that she has never seen before. The front cover had already amazed her since it was designed like it's from a fantasy genre she has seen before with a working clock that's protected by glass stuck to it, with the handclock indicating the time accurately. "Ohohoho... Em and Taryn is gonna like the look of this!!" She beamed and turned her heel to go try to find her two best friends to check out the book she found.

Oh little did she know that was the beginning of their adventure.

This is the revised version and retelling of the story and lore because the lore in @the-record-keepers is outdated af like I think it was made 2 years ago?? Huhu, I'll eventually make the design of the Chuangzao Book if ever art energy gives me ideas and I have to ask Mod Em for ideas too 🤡.

Book Review: Folk of Air

I cannot believe it’s taken me this long to write this but I felt like I’m order to review the books, I wanted to read all of them before I gave a review! (Mind you I’ve read the main trilogy but I’m aware there are two complimentary novella books that I’ve yet to read, so I will not be touching on them.)

There was definitely aspects to this book that I absolutely adored, one of those things are surprisingly the first person POV, I feel like anyone who’s been on my blog for awhile probably knows by now that I’m not a fan of first person stories (particularly in the YA genre for many reasons) but I adored Jude’s narration.

Her grapple with feeling powerless and wanting power had me right there with her, on the edge of my seat rooting for her even in her worst moments, her powerful declaration of becoming worse then her enemies if she couldn’t be better. Willingly positioning herself to make herself stronger. But more then anything, I personally enjoyed the fact that Jude doesn’t try to justify her actions.

She’s very aware of what she’s doing, she knows her actions are heinous from the very moment she joins the Court of Shadows. It was such a slow trickling water fall of disaster honestly, I loved the slow build up in the series of Jude’s lust for power, first starting with the gias to not be charmed, twisting into grappling for the crown and eventually taking Cardan under her control.

Not only this but her sheer determination to do something was thoroughly enjoyable to read and watch unfold, even when she lost the battles or took the hits, watching her grit her teeth and her back up was easily one of my favorite aspects of her character (also her pure spiteful nature deeply resonates with me so maybe I’m biased)

I was also highly enjoyed her complex relationship with Madoc which was tainted from the very moment the book started. Him murdering her parents and fostering her and her sisters. The constant push and pull of their relationship and going from family to enemies.

Cardan was also a very fun character to read! While he was indeed cruel in the first book. There was just something so charming about his delivery, the longing stares that are filled with both yearning and anger. Not only that but the way he transitioned into enjoying his position as the king in the second book.

‘kiss me again, kiss me until I’m sick of it’ 😵‍💫

There’s so many things I enjoyed about this series, but out of all of them, I somehow really enjoyed the first book the best, watching Cardan and Jude continuously attempt to one up each other on pranks, and it eventually leading to her killing his best friend was just…🤣 horrendous but somehow amusing (granted she didn’t kill him to spite Cardan but you get my point)

But while I enjoyed this book, now that I’ve read the main trilogy I can’t help but wish there was more too it. Holly did an amazing job on some aspects of this book, but there were others I felt that severely lacked.

(I would also just like to state that these are my feelings and opinions and that while I feel it’s shame, I still believe it’s a great series to read!)

A lot of the characters felt very one demisonal to me, and maybe it’s because I’m a writer and reader who enjoys character relationships, I feel like they really make the story great, a great plot helps, I feel like strong we’ll rounded characters count the most. There’s more then plenty of examples.

The first being Jude’s sisters, Taryn and Vivi. We know them but at the same time we really don’t. Vivi was the one who swore to never forgive Madoc and so I assumed she would play a much bigger role in the series then she did, she’s a typical eldest rebel child who is, at most, a minor annoyance to the dad. I was really hoping we would see more of her pain and anguish against Madoc for murdering their parents (as she was the oldest and probably remembers it the best). But the most we see is a lack luster character who kinda remains me of a sassy Y/n from a draco x reader fanfic on wattpad.

(I’m writing this at 2 in the morning with only four hours of sleep so please bare with me)

We do get to see more of Taryn’s side of things during the first book, but once Jude decided to join the court of shadows, all bets are off, and so I felt like that would’ve been a good jumping off point to dive into the riff and feelings of alienation from her sister. But alas, that wasn’t really there either.

We also have Orianna, she first read as “the ugly step mother” trope but turns out she is just a very mild version of it and only to Jude due to how rebellious she is, and I once again would have loved to have seen their relationship played out in more detail.

The last character is unfortunately Cardan, and listen I LOVE him, I truly do, but I feel like we as the reader, don’t know much about him. I find it a bit odd that despite having two books titled after him, there really isn’t many scenes in the story with him in it, not only this but at the end of book one, he becomes the pentacle of the whole plot.

So I feel as though he should’ve been more included in scenes or had more then he did, and furthermore, their relationship. I went into the book knowing the romance was a subplot, but when the feelings are that conflicted by book two…😭 I’m sorry but it felt like it really should have been more at the forefront of the plot.

My policy with writing is “show don’t tell” so while I know Jude was conflicted with her feelings for Cardan is was shown so little that it felt only a little forced, especially given their lack of scenes together. And listen I’m not advocating for more romance. But moreso advocating for better tension, it the conflict is brought up during narration a lot but we don’t see it in action during the scenes except for a few times throughout the whole series. I feel like telling that side of the plot rather then showing it really didn’t help it’s case.

Cardan has some very memorable lines he says to her but it was difficult to really feel into it because they really only have about four scenes in the whole trilogy where there is tension of feelings involved. And if Cardan was a side character this would have gotten a pass, but he isn’t, he’s the main supporting male in the series that is at the center of the plot. Objectively, it all would’ve felt a lot more seamless to me if the conflict was more present in the plot then it was. This wouldn’t have required a lot of changes imo, just more dialogue between them with the right wording in any scenes and it wouldn’t just have to be them.

My point being it could have been worked better into the main plot that takes center stage.

I don’t want to be too harsh on the series of course! I still enjoyed reading it! But there was definitely some unmistakable flaws in the story that are difficult to forget. Publishing houses can be picky with word count so maybe a lot of things had to be edited out to fit a word count. It really seems that way because there’s so many characters and so little time to go into depth about all of them.

That isn’t to say it’s neccasary to go into depths with all of the characters but a heart to heart conversation between some and Jude would’ve done them a lot of favor in making them more fleshed out. That’s really my biggest let down with the story, so many characters have potential but a lot of them fell very flat. Another example being the gang at the Court of Shadows. We were introduced to Roach, Ghost and Bomb but hardly got any screen time with any of them during book 1.

But I wanted to wait for judgment on that because I thought we’ll maybe this is just setting the stage for book 2, and while in a way it very much was. We still didn’t get to see much of their side of things or really see them build any relationship with Jude.

In closing I definitely see the appeal of the Folk of Air series, it was very captivating and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of Jude’s rise to power, the grapple to control it and her fall from grace. The ending was very nice! I was really curious to see how Madoc’s ending would play out as he is an integral character to the series but up until the moment I couldn’t see any other ending for him aside from dying by Jude in someway. I really enjoyed the plot twist of exiling him to the mortal world!

Even more so I loved that the series started in the mortal world and it ended in the mortal world with the final toast to scheming good schemes. All in total I’d rate the series a

“Come on,” Gai prodded his side, pushing his finger a little deeper into Kakashi’s shoulder with every new poke. “You know you want to.”

Swatting his hand away, Kakashi groaned when he immediately switched up his approach to jabbing him with his elbow. “I said no, Gai,” he attempted to shove his friend away from him, but the movement only resulted in Gai dodging his efforts and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “I’m trying to read.”

“You rear all the time,” Gai whined as he draped himself across Kakashi’s back, putting all of his weight onto him so that he was forced to bend forward. “If you’re not on mission’s you’re reading. If you’re not training, your reading. If you have even a second of time available to do anything, you’re reading. It’s wonderful to see you enjoying your favorite pass time, but it would also be nice to do things with you.”

“I-“ stopping himself, Kakashi took a deep breath and concentrated on what Gai was trying to tell him. It had been six months since they had last spent a day together,l. Between all of the mission’s Lord Third was sending him on with Anbu, and the constant drain of physical and emotional energy he had to deal with, he almost never felt up to hanging out with anyone. Not even Gai.

That was unfair though.

Gai didn’t deserve to be shoved off every time he tried to do some thing with him just because he couldn’t mister up the energy to do anything.

There had to be a compromise. Something that Kakashi could think of for the both of them to do that didn’t involve over extending himself when he was already so tired.

“Food,” he declared, surprising Gai and himself with his sudden outburst. “Why don’t we go out for food? Some lunch maybe?”

“Perfect,” shutting his book he tucked it away in his weapon’s pouch and held out a hand towards Gai. “Help me up?”

The smile on his friends face seemed to grow even wider, his teeth gleaming in the sunlight. “Of course,” reaching out he grabbed hold of Kakashi’s hand and pulled him to his feet in one easy tug. “How does Sushi sound?”

Thinking about it, Kakashi hummed. “Sushi sounds great.”

Before I get into my reflections on being external, I’d like to thank some very important people! (and because contact info comes first in our itineraries)

Sofia Gestiada: (000) 259-9023 Hi Sofia. I truly truly could not have asked for a better co. You’ve genuinely made this experience being on board a fun one, and having to do work never felt super serious or daunting because of you. Whenever I began to overthink or worry too much about FASA things, you were able to help me take a step back and come up with good solutions. I am going to rave about you more in a later section, so I will keep this short for now.

Alyssa and Bryson Madame and Mister President! This club could not run without you. I appreciate how you both were always there to give us advice, especially on how to interact with other orgs. Alyssa– I always tell you that you would be an amazing external. I love yapping with you about the other externals and MAFA in general. Bryson– You are such a reliable person. If I ever asked something from you, you always came through (benches 😭🙏).

Ashley and Mikey You guys are the blueprint. Sofia and I both came into this position having not interned, so we for real did not know what was going on at first. Thank you for showing us the ropes and for your advice throughout the year!

Housing Addresses

Cebu, Philippines. My connection to Filipino culture stems directly from my parents. Both of them grew up, met, and got married in Cebu City, Philippines. They moved over to Michigan with a group of other Filipinos in their engineering company, whose kids I grew up with. Because of this, I was fortunately able to grow up with a close-knit Filipino community and attend many family parties. I knew that in college I would absolutely want to find a similar kind of community, which is why there was no question that I would join FASA.

Dearborn, Michigan. This is the city I was born in and went to elementary and high school in. Although I grew up going to Filipino parties and the fact that Dearborn is already one of the most diverse cities in Michigan, I attended a predominantly white, Catholic school for almost my entire life (I did live in Shanghai for 3 years but I don’t feel like writing a section on it. Ask me about it if you want lol). I had very conflicting views of my identity as a result. I was microaggressed as the smart Asian my whole life, but I took this as a compliment and was simultaneously proud to be the different kind of Asian (aka not East Asian, like most of the stereotypes). Regardless of these external factors, I have always been proud to be Filipino.

Ann Arbor, Michigan. My sister Audrey was in Fil-Soc at Wayne State and I had various family friends in FASOU and SAFA, so it was a no-brainer that I join FASA at UMich. But my freshman year, I was a commuter student and ended up going to maybe 3 FASA events. Since I lived at home, I spent a lot more time going to FilViet volleyball up in Waterford/ Troy, which is where I met so many of my external friends. I guess everything happens for a reason, because if I wasn’t so inactive my freshman year, I wouldn’t have met the externals and eventually run for external chair of FASA as a result.

Packing List

An amazing co The most important part of your trip as external is having an amazing co-chair. Sofia Beatrice del Rosario Gestiada has been one of the people I admire most in my life. Not only did she support me professionally, but she became someone I could depend on just in life in general. Your co is there to balance you out and provide support when the job gets tough. Sofia never failed to make me laugh when times got stressful, which was often because we were truly in the trenches together this whole year (we don’t talk about October).

Be okay with saying no With that being said, if you do not want to be planning external event after event during your tenure, be okay with saying no to some things! This is definitely something that Ashley and Mikey told us, but alas we did not listen. Oftentimes, FASA would be invited to join other internal events after we had finalized our calendar for the semester. Because we so loved our fellow A/PIA orgs, we wanted to join events when they invited us. Regardless, I have no regrets about any of the external events we planned and joined because they were genuinely all so fun and I loved working with the other externals/ outreach chairs.

A vision You have to want to build FASA’s connections with other orgs in order to perform this position correctly. There’s no question about that. Growing up, I had always known FASA as the “clique-y” Filipino org. During my whole term, I tried to help board and general members realize that external connections, both in and outside of the UM community, are important. You love the Filipino community found within FASA– why not expand it further within MAFA (Midwest Association of Filipino Americans)! Whether this worked or not, I am very proud of FASA stepping out of its comfort zone to interact with other orgs, especially the PSAs (Pilipino Student Associations).

Connections! (not required) As I’ve been saying, my existing connections within the other PSA’s were the main reason I wanted to be an external chair. Not only was this helpful in shaping my vision, but it also helped make communication with them pretty efficient throughout the year. In fact, it happened quite serendipitously that both the Fil-Soc and Kapa external chairs this year were people I grew up with (s/o John Paul and Spencer), among other family friends on various PSA boards. But having prior connections are by no means requirements to do a good job as external! It’s all about how you build and maintain relationships, and wanting to build them in the first place. In my position, I’ve been able to meet and get to know so many of the amazing externals and outreach chairs of both internal and external orgs.

Itinerary

Now let’s get into some of the cool events that Sofia and I got to put on as externals!

Rice Bowl This was Sofia and I’s first event. Rice Bowl is an annual field day/ sports competition with MSU’s PASS in April/ May. It felt like we were thrown into it, having hosted it in AA for the first year since covid. This was a huge learning curve for me especially in figuring out how to work with non-FASA boardies, but luckily we had a lot of past documents to rely on (RIP FASA archives 💔). It’s amazing that we are able to maintain connections with another org through an annual event, so I’d love to see more FASA programs like this (hint hint @ next externals). Anyways, I believe that we will win Rice Bowl next year guys! Pls!!

Internal collabs During the FASA welcome week extravaganza of 2023, Sofia and I hosted our first internal collab! It was a cultural game night on the Diag with TASA. This semester, we also got to plan a huge tailgate with VSA, MSU PASS, and MSU VSA in East Lansing and it was just a swell, fun and safe time. We further bonded with the other UMich APIDA orgs during the Halloween LIVE collab, Celebrasia, ice skating night with CSA, and VSA’s annual Sweet Soiree. This semester, we were able to pull off probably one of the most rewarding events for me, which was Tsismis en el Barrio with La Casa. Being able to reflect on the shared culture and identity between the Filipino and Latinx peoples was an experience I will never forget. I hope this event returns sometime in the coming years.

Battle of the Bamboo 2024 This deserves its own category y’all. I am so beyond proud of our performance chairs and all the performers for all the work they put in to win us 3rd place! It makes the 3 hours a day working on spreadsheets for 2 weeks straight almost worth it! 😀Kidding. Not really. The trip to Chicago was the most demanding task of my time as external. But honestly, it was so worth it to hear how much of a fun time our general members had in Chicago. And it was really fun to make cars and houses and plan out what performers and non-performers should do with their time away from Ann Arbor.

Being on board felt like a never-ending party. I have never felt so encompassed by a community to the point where Filipinos and Filipino culture are found in all aspects of my life. Everywhere I go on campus now, I am able to see a familiar face, which makes this huge campus feel a lot smaller. Becoming an active member in FASA through being on board has been one of my favorite experiences in college. It’s opened so many doors for me not only socially and culturally, but professionally as well. It’s allowed me to make connections and learn about opportunities that will benefit me in my future career endeavors. Like many other boardies, I have wondered what comes next after FASA, but now I realize that FASA truly set me up for a great future. Being on a board like this teaches you so many soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and logistics planning. Most importantly, my time on board and in FASA has made me decide to pursue Philippine studies in my future anthropological research.

To finish off this itinerary of my trip as co-external chair, I would like to wish the best of luck to our future boardies and next year’s external chairs. I know you will do great things <3

This was one of the best experience I actually have ever had and I will bear in mind the superior Albatross sightings for as long as I reside. A very good trip and all the extra outstanding given the covid state of affairs over the last two years. Hopefully there will be more journeys like this to come back.

Our precious Jayden speaks about his one in one million Bobba each single day. We miss you Mom more than you will ever know. As we finish saying kaddish for you right now my precious Mom, we almost complete our year of mourning. Theo's contribution to the Cape Town Heritage Trust was a lot valued & I recall his enthusiasm and initiative with gratitude. You left this world, as you got here into it - Loved and Peaceful. Thank you for giving me life, and being my greatest trainer of humanity and for all the lessons I obtained to learn through you and proceed to be taught.

Week five takes us to Cape Town and it’s a treasure chest of people stepping as a lot as be crowned the winner. Jamie makes the most of leftover Easter lamb in a tremendous traybake biryani, and exhibits us recipes for scruffy aubergine lasagne and comforting hungover noodles. The remaining bakers are just Dr Greg Hough three patisserie challenges away from the largest day of their baking lives. But the warmth is really on now from Signature to Showstopper.

Tadiwa Chikutiro receives an Honours Award for Rugby. Shingirai Manyarara receives an Honours Award for Rugby. Taryn Hurley has achieved her Academic Honours. I am so glad I was lucky sufficient to affix this actually particular experience with BirdLife South Africa, 2000kms out at sea with 1500+ fellow birders. Prince Edward Island was all of a sudden there!

More jaw dropping makeovers as the staff attempt to remodel extra looks and lives in simply 10 days, with none surgical procedure. Cherry Healey hosts as community police officer Suzanne, party-loving Nick and security guard Michelle are among those who want help with their style and confidence. STEPP had also campaigned for a stationery assortment on the finish of final yr; that stationary was donated to three schools, Riverside being one of them. Co-ordinating the transportation of the books and stationery from the SA to Malawi was no mean feat.

Incredible initiative to boost funds as nicely for Mouse Free Marion project. Congratulations on a successful unique event benefitting tourism, conservation and training. A as quickly as in a lifetime expertise, and lifechanging too. Thank you BirdLife South Africa for making potential the inconceivable. I was sad to miss out on a beautiful experience judging by the feedback of those who did participate.

Not being a true fowl fanatic, it was my pleasure to accompany my wife on this expedition. The cruise was an absolute treat ! The birding lectures have been completely superb.

This past weekend a selection of our Kingswood pupils took half within the first of three Get Out and Run trails at Langley park. While Makhanda could appear far from the lights of South Africa’s greater cities, there are some somewhat amazing advantages from being the place we are. Once again, the Eastern Cape delivered some amazing alternatives for each fun and studying for our junior pupils via their current grade excursions. We began our Winter vacation final Friday, and what a well-deserved break this will be for our pupils and employees alike.

Bird Life South Africa may be very proactive in supporting many conservation activities. Particularly birding trips, palagic birding, encouraging recording of all sea birds. The Wakkerstroom birding area has many excellently trained bird guides.

My darling Joeli I miss you increasingly more each day . Popsi, not a day goes by where I do not take into consideration Dr Greg Hough you. My deepest sympathy to you on the lack of a mom, grandmother and good friend.
