1 - 03/09/2023 : really wanted to draw Ru n Toni in some eveningwear, was a fun opportunity to draw Toni a bit more masc... shes so hot wtf!!! i love these ladies

2, 3 - 04/09/2023 : a Trixie pen doodle, which I ended up turning into a full digital piece..... which i procrastinated on for months, but hey at least i Did finish it! also a little human TTTE au doodle... its Diesel and hes silly... i doodled him in the oingo boingo only a lad pose bc, damn, he really is only a lad

4 - 05/09/2023 : another human Diesel, i did end up tweaking a lot of these initial human designs, so don't get too comfy with em, but oh my.. could it be... Goopy makes another boingo reference? how peculiar that never ever happens..... anyway Perfect System is my fave Diesel song.. in my head is an AMV that will never be made

5, 6, 7 - 06/09/2023 : first, some ideas for my human Edward, thought i might as well include these, for the craic i guess x ... then a rare one of Toby (i havent drawn him since.. i should change that) and Diesel, then that one barbie meme with Edward n James, dont get comfy with either of these designs coz they're not sticking x

8 - 07/09/2023 : a pencil drawing emerges.. Eddie again, with his initial design i was gonna go with, i think the side profile is especially cute..

9 - 09/09/2023 : aaand heres the design i've currently settled on! im much happier with this, and its one of my fave drawings of last year, even if its nothing too special, hes just so cute, and thats really it

10 - 10/09/2023 : silly phone doodle of my human percy.. he drank 2 meny monsters.. cuz i think he would ig.. splort on the floor

11, 12 - 15/09/2023 : another silly (very quick) phone doodle.. i like the idea of Edward taking Diesel under his wing and nobody else can quite understand why, ALSO Edward n Emily friendship? lets go... gays stick together and listen to belinda carlisle its true

13 - 17/09/2023 : YET ANOTHER silly one... oo shes so silly so quirky... i just think if Edward ended up in TATMR he would destroy D10 like thats probs why he wasnt included... hes too powerful

14, 15, 16 - 21/09/2023 : human Diesel shenanigans, first isnt my fave thing ive done and again his design is now outdated BUT the little one of him flipping you off is so funny to me like you get em lil guy!! also Edward again big surprise. holding his little gremling

17 - 29/09/2023 : watched tobias and the last pariah and all i could think about was this meme of the brown eyes vs blue eyes thing so i doodled them on my phone

Fixing Day Of The Diesels

The beauty of fanfic is I can make this movie as long as I want.

The story begins with Sodor getting ready for a busy holiday season. After too many bad reports from the Railway safety organization, Sir Topham Hatt decides to create a special team of search and rescue engines. He buys Flynn and Belle, two respected engines and established a base by the sea. Meanwhile a new diesel engine named Atta (short for Atalanta) is preparing for her first day on Sodor. She's shy, anxious and keep to herself. While Belle and Flynn are getting praised, Atta feels overlooked and ignored. But doesn't contest due to not wanting to perpetuate a negative stereotype of diesels.

Belle and Flynn wish to have a third engine to help with the workload and decides to hosts test runs. A lot of engines try out, but don't make the spot. Spencer, Henry, Gordon and James try out but are rejected due their vain squabbling and arrogance. Emily is rejected due to her bossiness, and the Logging Locos are flat out rejected. Edward and Toby don't try out because they don't understand the hype. The spot comes down to Thomas and Percy. This creates a tension in their relationship. Later than night a fire starts and Thomas helps Belle and Flynn put out the fire. This impresses them enough for them to accept him as an apprentice. Percy is disappointed.

The next morning While about to prepare for the usual mail train, Percy encounters Atta, who tasked with helping with the mail. Although Percy is a bit upset, Atalanta's promises not to screw up. By the time they're done Atta has already finished her route and it resting when Percy returns. He's surprised to see her finish that quickly. Atta shyly admits that a lot of people and engines make note of her speed but she hates bragging. The two engines hitch it off.

With Thomas he learns more from Belle and Flynn. He sees they also bicker at times; it turns out even perfect heroes have their off days and fight but are willing to set aside differences to do what's right. This leads to him starting to regret beefing with Percy. He tries to reconcile but gets sidetracked by a report of an accident near Maithewaite.

Later, Atta goes to the dieselworks to get some parts repaired and is appalled by the conditions the diesels are living in. Two diesels escort her inside and she finds more dangerous hazards. Just then the fearsome Diesel 10 slithers out from his room and greets her. He tells her that the diesels have been living horribly and he plots to get revenge on the NWR. Diesel 10 attempts to seduce Atta to his side but she gets anxious and quickly runs out of the Works. Angered by the rejection Diesel 10 vows to have her at his side whether she wants it or not.

Atta informs Percy she plans to talk to Sir Topham Hatt and convince him to fix the dieselworks. But her anxieties holds her back. Percy reassures her then takes her to the Steamworks to get advice from Victor. While travelling to the steamworks they stop by the grand station where Atta meets some of the steam engines. She asks them have they ever seen a diesel with a giant claw. The Horrified engines tell her that she met Diesel 10. Atta has never heard of him before so Percy fills her in on what he did in the past (referencing TATMR). Atta is terrified by such revelations but points out Diesel 10 isn't exactly wrong about the dieselworks needing repair. She just doesn't agree his methods and hopes to find the courage to speak up to Sir Hatt.

Later that evening Thomas Belle and Flynn answer another emergency. Thomas spots a diesel leaving the scene and calls out to them. A brief chase ensues and Thomas manages to catch up to them. The engine down finds out to be Sidney, who begs Thomas not to tell anyone until Sidney's driver uses a strange device to knock Thomas out. When Thomas comes to he is in the Steamworks with a concerned Percy and Victor at his side. Thomas said he saw a diesel run away from the scene of the accident and suspects he might've caused it. Victor adds he notices a lot more accidents than usual. Thomas concludes that Diesel 10 may be behind the accidents to sabotage the railway. Thomas decides to warn Belle and Flynn, while Percy goes to find Atta.

Later that evening another accident occurs. Atta was the last person at the scene and while she helps out she is blamed for the accident. Sir Hatt sends her away to the Dieselworks for a while as he tries to get everything sorted out. Percy doesn't believe she did it and resolves to clear her name. He finds Atta at the works and tries to convince her to come back. But Atta is too despondent. Diesel 10 sees this and has the green engine cornered. Atta begs for Diesel 10 to let Percy go by offering her services. Satisfied Diesel 10 allows Percy to leave, then proceeds to launch his plans. He sends his hench engines (illegally modified warships like himself) to infiltrate the steamworks, and other places populated by steam engines.

While Diesel 10 brags about his plan, Atta is very miserable but then she gets a vision of Lady the Magical Engine. Lady reminds Atta of her inner strength and to not give up. Atta gains a second wind and lies to Diesel 10 that she needs to get her things from another shed. He lets her go but sends a diesel chaperone to keep tabs her. Once she gets to a safer place she outsmarts the diesel and runs as fast as she can to warn Victor. The chaperone returns and tells diesel 10 that Atta has escaped. Enraged Diesel 10 decides to launch the attack and says he will personally deal with her, clacking Pinchy as he does. Warship diesels proceed to swarm the island, with some taking Tidmoth Sheds hostage. Diesel, Arry n' Bert, Salty Mavis and Daisy refuse to join as they're loyal to Sodor and plot to free their friends.

Percy is at the steamworks when Atta bursts in and warns them that Diesel 10 is planning to launch an attack. Just as Victor asks, a swarm of diesels arrive led by Diesel 10. He praises Atta for leading them to the Steamies but Atta retorts that he is nothing but a selfish bully. As Victor tries to reign in the chaos, Percy and Atta make a run for it. They proceeds to be chased down by a couple diesels but Atta proves too fast for her would-be captors and successfully escapes. Percy gets captured.

The diesels send a message that if Thomas doesn't present himself in the next hour then the hostages will get scrapped. Percy is afraid but seeing Victor and Kevin, he puts up a brave front and try to convince the friendlier Sidney and his buddies to reconsider. They reject at first but having grown to love Sodor and growing tired of Diesel 10's mistreatment they start to reconsider.

At Tidmoth, the remaining steam team (and Spencer) are trapped when Mavis and Daisy arrives. They pretend to be on the evil diesels side & leads them away, freeing the hostages. The steam team and good diesels agree to work together to stop Diesel 10. Spencer initially denies to participate but Edward reminds him this could be a way for him to make up for his own actions in Hero Of The Rails. Gordon adds the Edwards has a point. Spencer relents and agree to help if only they relay this to the Duke and Duchess. They steam engines meet up with Salty and Diesel and plan where to go next.

Atta rushes to the S&R team and musters the courage to ask them for help. She confesses that Diesel 10 asked her to join his cause and laments that if she took his offer the first time, things wouldn't go out of hand. Realizing Atta is genuinely innocent Thomas apologizes. He reassures her that Diesel 10 would've still committed evil acts regardless because he chose to do those things, like how she's choosing to do the right thing now. Together the S&R team rallies all available engine to help take back the steamworks. During the confrontation, a fire breaks out and everyone evacuates. While Belle and Flynn deal with the fire Sidney and Paxton renounces their ways and admits they were led to create accidents so Sodor could look bad on Diesel 10's orders.

As his plans literally burn down around him, an enraged Diesel 10 chases Thomas down. But with Percy and Atta's help, they lure him back to the dieselworks. The trap results in Pinchy getting seriously damaged, rendering Diesel completely incapacitated. Once the fire is contained, the steamworks are temporarily closed down. Sir Topham arrives on Stanley and angrily grills the evil diesels. Their human accomplices are arrested and Diesel 10 is literally declawed to fix Pinchy and to punish him for his actions. Thomas and Percy reconcile and Atta asks Sir Topham to repair the dieselworks, which he agrees to do. Belle and Flynn says it's time to decide the new rescue engine only for Thomas and Percy to nominate Atta in their place. Touched by this gesture, Atta accepts the position.

A few weeks later the steamworks reopens and construction begins n the dieselworks. Sidney and Paxton are put in charge of the works with plans to put a swimming pool for their drivers and firemen. Atta arrives in her new Sudrian green&red livery as a tribute to her newfound friendship with Percy. Then she gets a call from Flynn about a breakdown involving Spencer and Atta speeds away to enjoy her new life as a rescue engine. As for Diesel 10 he's essentially grounded from driving as his wheels are removed until further, and forced to listen to his bodyguards the Logging Locos sing country music.

So that's my idea for DOTD. Diesel 10 being a threatening villain and not complete joke, a good diesel MC who opposes him, Belle and Flynn being relevant and Thomas and Percy have a legitimate conflict that doesn't demonize one side or the other.

I rewatched TATMR hoping that I'd like it better on the third rewatch and man,,, nah

However, it's still very funny to imagine this movie's plot all being Thomas and Diesel 10 arguing with each other and Thomas going absolutely overboard

Also Alec Baldwin conductor and the other conductor's dependence on gold dust and their spiraling gold dust withdrawals is also very funny

I still absolutely hate James' voice in this movie too, it makes it borderline unwatchable and it sucks the test audience thought that Michael Angelis sounded too old, he was perfect

Wanna know something I've been thinking?

In the early seasons and books, Gordon, James and Henry were constantly putting Edward down for his age, which I actually found kinda funny and stupid because THEY looked much older than him from the amount of age on their own faces. Look at them!;

Then take a look at Edward!;

This guy has such a smooth face nearly all of the time. Imagine having much more wrinkles on your face than an actual elderly person lmao.

[headcanon] donald and douglas have a unique skill where they can call anyone a nickname ans no one ever gets mad at them. Even the people who you'd expect to get mad (or find nicknames should be reserved for more intimate times).

List of names the twins somehow get away with

Thomas: Tommy, Tom, Massy/Mossy. Low-tier but Thomas usually gets huffy being called Tommy

Oliver: Ollie. Classic, easy. Tho one of them called him Liver for a whole day once and that was beginning to get onto thin ice.

Duck: Duckie, Monty. They are the ONLY people who ever get away w calling Duck Monty (Donald more so than Douglas) (i'm a 8x9 shipper, sue me)

James: Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, Jammy, Jimjam, any other annoying derivatives they can think of. James is so goddamn fed up with them but has given up protesting becauae Donnie and Douggie are an unstoppable force

Edward: Eddie, Ed, Ted, Teddy, Theodore. 'Ted' can be derived from both Theodore and Edward, you see. Edward finds it amusing and endearing.

Bill and Ben: William and Benjamin. Donald and Douglas are the only engines who can lengthen the names and Bill and Ben can hear it from and not assume they're in trouble.

Henry: Hank. Henry doesn't get annoyed by this so much as confused.

Harold: Harry. Harold gets miffed because only Percy calls him that ò///ó

Gordon: Gordie. WARNING: Use Sparingly. Only when Gordon is in a good mood/up for a joke. They have received the scariest death glares trial-and-erroring this one.

Percy: Perce. Nice n straightforward. Duck likes Percy too much for them to give Percy an annoying or mean nickname.

Emily: Emma, Emmy, Milly. She tolerates it/finds it about as endearing as Edward does

They call Rebecca many variations on her name and she's too new and too ^-^' to ask why they do it. She Has politely requested they don't call her Becky, though

They also call the fat controller Hattie. But Never Ever to his face. (Not as brave as Junior tatmr, clearly. lmao)

It's 1am and i cant think of any more examples but yeah <3

TATMR Rewatch

Saw this post appear on my dash again and felt like rewatching the movie again. Thoughts while rewatching a twenty-four year old film about magic talking trains included below.

Starting off and- hey it's Diesel 10! You remember Diesel 10, right? What a "blast from the past," right? Right?

I miss the hammy, over-the-top New Jersey accent they gave Diesel in this movie. The slimy, manipulative voice they gave him later on is fine, but c'mon, the guy's got a giant claw coming out of his back. There's nothing subtle about him. Give us our big dumb tantruming baby back!

Interesting to see Gordon shake w/ fear after seeing Diesel, considering how much flak people gave the last couple seasons of the show over the engines 'gesturing' w/ their bodies (same w/ Thomas sneezing later on).

The two ends of the universe: Anytown, USA and a remote island off the coast of England (I know its implied that Sodor is part of a separate magical dimension in this movie, hush).

That said, filming in the rustic British countryside really doesn't scream America:

Also what's that line about Shining Time being separated from Sodor by "oceans of time"? Dym like time zones (crossing the Atlantic) or time travel? The show is canonically set in the 50s-70s, afterall.

It's a shame that they didn't use the original Shining Time theme for the introductory shot. Not sure if it'd fit, but it's still a shame. Include it during the credits at least.

Oh, that fish is not having a good time.

Diesel 10 is going to dominate you... sorry.

I know they recut this movie after audience testing, but it is odd having the mystery of the lost engine w/ Burnett's backstory revealed to the audience right at the beginning of the movie, only for it to continue being treated as a mystery by the rest of the cast until the climax.

That said, they still did an admirable job w/ it, considering they cut out one of the main antagonists. There's a few repeated story beats (Burnett and Diesel giving Lady's backstory back to back) and lines that don't quite work (Burnett telling Diesel, the magic talking train, he'll fail bc he "doesn't believe in magic"), but nothing too distracting.

Jumping from that slow, melancholic scene w/ Burnett to Diesel w/ his fucking goofy theme playing is fantastic.

Mr. C Humming the OG theme tune is a really cute touch.

"Stacy, where did you find this painting?" Mr. C, I'm pretty sure that's a drawing.

I can't get over Baldwin chewing the scenery in this movie, he's just constantly goofing off in front of the camera, picking up and talking to random props. I know all of it is prob in the script, it is a kid's film after all, but its just so silly that I love it.

I like the implication that Burnett was just a kid that Mr. C talked to and chose to entrust w/ Lady's secret, just like all the kids he'd (well, another Mr. Conductor), interact w/ on Shining Time.

I remember too many of these lines.

The scene w/ the angry painting of Topham calming down each time they cut back to it after Mr. C puts back the hat was and still is the best one in the movie imo.

Lady Hatt's portrait is still just one of the wooden figures lmao.

I have a deep-seated memory of constantly repeating the scene of Mr. C reflexively batting the ball he was just roleplaying w/ out of his hand and scolding it.

Nvm the scene of Diesel busting through the shed wall still goes hard as hell, esp. when Mr. C's magic starts failing (same for all of Diesel's action scenes tbh).

Jesus, why did they put this scene into the movie?

Hearing Stacy say that and start sobbing is genuinely upsetting.

I didn't even notice the railway (sorry, railroad) got replaced w/ a road in this scene.

It's interesting to think about how in the workprint, an older Lily was the narrator, meanwhile Mr. C would still out here constantly breaking the fourth wall by talking straight to the audience.

Very interesting low self-esteem James moment b/w him and Mr. C. It's a shame that isn't explored more in the actual series. James is usually portrayed as vain, not insecure.

Mr. C, you're on a railway. Why are you hiking in the woods to get to a windmill?

Bertie saying "vroom vroom vroom" after every one of his lines is the best decision they ever made.

James: "Mr. C's not at the Windmill. I looked!" Point proven.

Even though they lean into the sick Henry angle, it's nice to see he still has that edge to his personality, at least for two out of three scenes.

Why does Junior have a Scottish accent? Is he from Ringo's side of the family?

Mr. C is in charge of this entire railway rn and he's just sleeping outside on the fucking ground having an existential crisis.

Hey Lily can play the harmonica! I need to break out mine again and harass people w/ my inability to play.

There he is! P.T. Boomer! I remember reading SiF all the time going over all the scenes left in after they axed that entire plotline like that freeze-frame of Stacy w/ the picture of Burnett, Boomer, and Tasha.

Lady's ghost whistling still works as is, but just imagine hearing it thru out the film w/o that knowledge. Much more haunting.

They did Toby so much justice in this film. Consistently a wise voice of reason that gets his own spotlight moment vs Diesel.

I... I forgot this movie included a version of "Really Useful Engine" in the middle of it.

I know the film was criticized for how much focus it put on its all new human cast, but I actually really enjoy these scenes. Maybe bc they're part of the quintessential Magic Railroad experience.

That said, w/o the inclusion of Boomer, the human plot lacks tension or stakes for much of the runtime. The Sodor plot (thru the character of Mr. C) is doing all of the tension-building for the whole movie. As it stands, there's little reason for an audience to actually get invested in that part of the story as is outside of just liking the characters.

Man, this film's special effects have not aged well.

Oh yeah, Annie and Clarabel only get a single line in the entire movie. :/

Oh Alec finally gets to start acting serious towards the end of the film. It really helps the tension building.

Mr. C: "No he is not a dog. Let's just say he's a puppy in need of a good trainer," while Junior is kneeling in front of him w/ his tongue out panting. I get that it's meant to be a short little gag but wtf is this movie?

It's my favorite character! Tumbleweed!!!

OMG TUMBLEWEED APPEARS IN A SECOND SCENE! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!

CGI Thomas just out here chilling on top of a cliff in the real world.

Thomas falls down and almost dies and Lily doesn't notice at all.

The smelter's yard continues to be the best set in this entire series. With the lighting turning the steam red it looks genuinely hellish.

Burnett: "Well Lady, this is your shining time too." Hey they said it!

The viaduct collapse scene is so good! It feels so real and weighty. Props to the props department.

Burnett: "Now we'll always remember our shining time together." 🌈🌈🌈

God, this movie is so cute! Really fun watching it again in full some all these years later.
