Terry Kirkman, a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter who co-founded the 1960s pop group the Association, whose lush vocal harmonies and sugary melodic hooks propelled a string of indelible hits, including “Cherish” (which he wrote) and “Along Comes Mary”.
A gifted musician who could play up to two dozen instruments, Mr. Kirkman and Jules Alexander, a guitarist and songwriter, formed the six-member Association in 1965. With a folk-inflected sound that was both sunny and sophisticated, the Association proved a veritable AM radio hit factory in its late-1960s heyday.

The Association Co-founder, “Cherish” Songwriter Terry Kirkman Dies at 83
Terry Kirkman, the Association co-founder and composer of such songs as “Cherish” and “Everything that Touches You,” has died, his former bandmates said.
Kirkman was 83; no cause of death was given.
“We’re saddened to report that Terry Kirkman passed away last night, (Sept. 23),” the Association said in a statement.
“R.I.P, Terry. He will live on in our hearts and in the music he so brilliantly wrote.”
Kirkman was with the band from 1966 to 1972 and again from ’79 to 1984. He made occasional guest appearances after his second departure and was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003 alongside the rest of the group.
“May Terry Kirkman rest in peace and love,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said.
