Sometimes people tag me in ask games, not as a participant but as an answer to "whose your favorite author?" and I get to see my name listed next to people like Neil Gaiman, Jane Austen, Terry, Pratchett, Tamora Pierce, Douglas Addams, Diana Wynne Jones, and I just have to lie down and breathe for a minute because I am so mean to myself when I'm writing.

I get so angry and frustrated that my ADHD means I've been writing the same chapter for a month. My physical health means I got nothing done for an entire year except survive, and I always feel behind and struggle to even care about what I'm doing some days.

It punches the wind right out of my self-loathing in a way countless hours of therapy a week can only aspire to. Seeing someone state with exclamation marks and firm resolve: That One. I want that one. This one is my favorite.

Like, what the fuck do you mean I'm someone's favorite author? I mean, thank you, but are you sure??

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: I got courthouse married to @edaworks in November 2023! I wore ripped jeans and my Born in the USA Bruce Springsteen shirt. We ate at a local taqueria and visited Ikea after. I highly recommend getting it done in the courthouse and then planning for a ceremony later. We're both law-brained and understand marriage is not just the connection between people but getting a lot of really important paperwork in order - figuring out a will, pre/post nup agreements. Relationship status affects taxes, finances. Our relationship was already "as good as married" and a legitimate marriage affording us the rights befitting spouses was most attainable in a courthouse. We still cried and it was still beautiful.

CURRENT OBSESSION: My puppy, Mishka.

Sherlock Holmes (the man) was tall and lean with an over-exposed neck. His mouth was constantly open, whether it was to smile too-widely in glee over nothing, or to jabber about useless topics that Louis drowned out more often than not: forensics and medical science and chemistry, his latest monographs and cases, difficult formulas and criminal psychology. Once he even discussed musical theory with his brother for over a day. And his eyes were a bright, sparkling blue that could put a sapphire to shame. 

Sherlock Holmes (the toy) was stout and round, with stubby limbs added only as an afterthought. He had no neck to speak of, his mouth was sewed shut in a thin-lipped smile, and his eyes were made of dull, lifeless, black thread. He was soft and supportive and quiet and gave good hugs.

Thank you for the tag @theredontbedragons! Sorry, I rambled horribly in my answers. Apparently this hit me on a chatty day.

Last song I listened to: Uh, technically Lipstick on the Glass by Wolf Alice to check it out lol (and it is a banger prev). Prior to that it was INVU by Taeyeon.

Currently reading: What We Keep by Bill Shapiro and Naomi Wax. Just something that caught my attention while browsing the library. I've always been interested in the journey of objects and how relatively insignificant items can hold such meaning to one person but lose that meaning once separated from their stories. It's a quick read, should be a one sitting type of deal but I got interrupted and just haven't picked it up again to finish it.

Currently watching: Alone. It's an American docuseries of ten survivalists dropped off individually in a remote area who try to live off the land as long as possible. Honestly, not my usual type of entertainment but a friend recommended it to me and it's sucked me in. I'm learning a lot about wilderness survival (something I hope I'll never need lol) but also it's a study in psychology and what being utterly alone can do to you mentally. The underlying theme of the show (at least for me) is gratitude and distilling life down to what really matters: food, shelter, warmth, and loved ones.

Currently obsessed with: Kingdom: Legendary War (NOT the same Kingdom that gets tagged on this blog lol). A Korean show from a few years back that took six pop groups and had them compete via special stages. I watched it for the first time around Thanksgiving and it hasn't left my head since. The overall show is a bit of a drag with waaaay too much filler and sketchy voting. BUT!!! What these guys (and staff) did with limited time: two weeks to rearrange a song, learn new choreo, costumes, sets, all with a limited budget? While some of them were also doing the circuit promoting current releases at the time too? When did they sleep? Impressive. I've been rewatching some of the performances on loop for months. Are they perfect? No. There wasn't time for that. But they have an undeniable heart and passion for what they do and each stage is a hell of a good time.

I was tagged by the wonderful @qazastra to share my 5 favorite songs at the moment. Please let me know if you were right when saying you thought that you would know what I would choose!

So I'm going to preface this with saying that my brain is almost entirely full of OnlyOneOf things right now, so we will see if there is room for anything else on this list.

1 - OnlyOneOf (Rie) "because"

Look, I am obsessed with this song, I've been obsessed with it since it came out. I've listened to it every day since it came out, usually several times, and I've watched it almost ever day since it came out (barring a few days without internet). Brain has had this on repeat for over a year, and we don't appear to be going anywhere any time soon.

2- OnlyOneOf (Rie, Junji) cover of "Betelgeuse"

So talking about things that I listen to/watch every day, often multiple times a day, this is also one of them. I need a duet from the two of them that is a them song so so much. I also really want more singing in this style from the two of them and from OnlyOneOf as a whole.

3 - OnlyOneOf (Rie) cover of "Steal the Show"

So you may be starting to notice a trend here, of the videos that I've been watching literally every day since they were dropped. That trend might, maybe have something to do with a specific person's voice yes. I love this cover from Rie so much. I love his voice so much. Just need more Rie voice time, thanks!

4 - OnlyOneOf "O" (from Things I Can't Say LOve album)

My brain is very full of the new album, and "O" is 100% my favorite song off the album. I love the whole album, but this song just ties in so so many beautiful elements from their previous songs while being its own new beautiful thing. Also, they all sound so good here, but Rie's voice in this song is just beyond amazing.

5 - OnlyOneOf "dOpamine" (title track for Things I Can't Say LOve album)

So the answer is no, there isn't room for anything other than OnlyOneOf on this list right now (normally I would feel bad because there are some other groups who are right up there with them for me in terms of level of like, but it's comeback time, and build up to their tour time, and my brain is just completely in OnlyOneOf mode). "dOpamine" is probably tied for second favorite song on the album for me (with "gravity") but as title track, it took the final spot on this list. They all sound so good, but Rie's choruses are my favorite part of the song.
