notes on eddie's mind. the series itself is dreadfully short, so this post shall be as well. alas! i think he's probably one of my favourite mindverse characters by his portrayal here alone.

he sleeps in a decrepit train car

tries to have breakfast! Out of breakfast! I'll give him points for trying

has no idea where his train has taken him

woke up at Night

considers blowing something up to open a path forward but drops it when he realizes that'll draw attention to him

eddie wakes up and Loots The Place. He's lookin for food mostly

a little surprised to see a body but pretty calmly takes its gun

EXTREME VIOLENCE AGAINST POISON HEADCRAB

he's got a neat way of talking where he'll say half a sentence, pause to figure out what the hell he's saying, and then finish it. Does just drop some sentences full out

a barnacle grabbing a headcrab makes his day. Gross to watch though

keeps referring to zombies as "individuals". That is charming

wonders what happened to Gordon. Reminded of him by some loose sciency and mathy papers

okay this guy is just plain adorable??

thinks the lambda everywhere just draws the cops to them

more than a bit unhappy at being trapped somewhere.

Now Is not the Time

Eddie Diaz X Reader: Based on the previous episode !

Things have been kind of rough at the 118. When chimney left go to find Maddie it hurt having a member of leaving home.

Like you knew he was okay physically but it still hurt knowing what he was going through.

You had been riding with Eddie on the ambulance. You were cross trained to do both but Bobby wanted you two to ride ridge because you both had the most experience.

It was fun riding with him the two of you were always hanging outside of work and spending the night at each others apartments'.

Eddie never made things official though because he was honestly scared after what happened to Shannon.

You knew it was hard do you didn’t push him and you were happy to just be able to spend time with him.

Everyone was sitting around and just lounging. You were hoping a call wouldn’t come in soon because you were in a lazy mood today.

But of course the alarm went off and everyone got into action. You were driving to the scene you always drove but it made Eddie mad because you never let him.

Eddie got in right at the same time as you and you both looked at the address and was confused but still pulled out of the station.

Eddie looked up at you with confusion before radio overing to Bobby

“Cap is this forreal are we going to a prison.” He asked

The fear settling in your stomach this was a whole other level of danger.

“yea apparently there was a break out they need backup a fire started in there.” Cap said

“Copy.” Eddie said

He looked over and could see the fear that was all over your face. He grabbed your hand and squeezed

“It’s going to be okay.” He said

You just drove to the prison and tried to keep your emotions under control. You got there in a few minutes and there was a bunch of chaos at the scene. You had a job to do you told yourself and just to calm down.

You walked into the prison and Eddie walked besides you to help calm your nerves. The guard in front of you said he would do his best to keep you safe but that didn’t help the situation at all.

You stopped when you saw a guard and a prisoner both laying on the floor badly hurt. You pushed the fear down and began to do your job. You and Eddie took the guard out to the ambulance first.

You walked out of the prison feeling this overall relief to be leaving. Eddie drove and you rode in the back with the patient. He looked bad and you both decided that you had more experience it made sense for you to stay with him.

Before you both pulled away a guard came in and sat up front with Eddie. You couldn’t hear much of the conversation up there because you were pre occupied.

A little bit down the road you the Guard started to wake up when suddenly he pulled something out of his Jacket and pulled out a gun.

Your heart stopped beating and you just froze and didn’t know what to do. You could feel the ambulance pulling over.

“Don’t fucking move.” He said

You just nodded your head and put your hands up.

The front doors open and next thing you know so did the back doors and the “guard” was sitting there with a gun to Eddie.

“Get out now and come stand by him.” The other guy said you did what he told you.

Eddie whispered to you

“It’s going to be okay just do what they say.” He said to you

The two guys just sat there and started talking to each other trying to come up with a game plan on what to do.

“let’s just take them with us there be more assurances for us.” The one man said ‘

“I like that Idea.” The other said

You could feel your heart drop into your stomach and your head was spinning a million miles per minute.

“Come on you don’t have to do that man just take me and let her go.” Eddie said

“Nah no chance in hell.” the other man said

“Both of you in the back now.” He said

You went first and then Eddie the man just sat there holding a gun on you while the other one got up front and drove away.

Eddie took your hand and squeezed it.

“It’s going to be okay don’t worry about it.” He said looking over at you.

You just nodded and squeezed his hand you were way to nervous to speak.

“ I was thinking you know and I want to tell you that I want us to go official you know I never told you before because I was scared and worried about everything you know but I want to tell you this.” he said

“You tell this to me now. Now is not the time.” you said looking at him.

The guard with the gun laughed to himself

“I realize that but I just wanted to say that.” he said

“ I want that to you know I want everything with you.” you told him

“Damn you two are kinda cute together.” the man with the gun said

It stayed quiet the rest of the ride and you two just sat in quiet the rest of the ride. You wanted to know where you were going but you were also to scared to know where you going.

Next thing you know you were pulling inside the parking lot of the hospital and you and Eddie both gave each other confused looks.

The man driving in the front seat came around to the back and opened up the doors

“This is where I take off good luck.” he said and ran away

“Come on let’s go now.” The man said

You both got out with your hands raised. The man pointed the gun at the both of you

“You go run inside.” the man with the gun told you

You just looked over at Eddie and was scared to leave him.

“Go I’ll be okay.” he said

You nodded your head and ran off and then went inside. You ran up to the phone to call for helped and prayed Eddie was outside okay.

A little bit went by and then finally Athena came in with Bobby

“ Are you okay.” They both asked at the same time

“I’m fine how’s eddie.” you asked

They both just gave each other this look and then Athena spoke up

“ The guard has him hostage talking about he wants to give his heart to his sick son.” she said

“What the hell what does that have to with Eddie he can’t do that.” you yelled

You felt sick to your stomach and Bobby looked at you with hurt eyes.

You ran past them and went back outside and there was so many camera crews and of course Taylor Kelly was there.

Swat was trying to talk the man down and he had Eddie a gun to his head. When you saw him like that it broke your heart and made you stop dead in your tracks.

Eddie looked over at you with sad eyes and he looked worried. You could hear him trying to talk the guy down

“Hey come on let’s think about this and be smart.” Eddie said

“I can’t okay tell him I’m sorry and I love him.” the man with the gun said

He let Eddie go and then pointed the gun at the cops and then they started shooting. He was gone when he hit the ground.

Eddie ran over to you and hugged you tight and wouldn’t let you go.

“It’s okay were going to be okay.” you said

“I love you Y/N “ Eddie said

He let go and looked you in the eyes and kissed you and you kissed him back

“Is now the right time for this.” he asked pulling away

“Now is a great time.” you said

It turns out the man was able to donate his heart to his son. A some what happy ending for his son but you were glad you got your own happy ending.

Upcoming Marvel Movies Release Dates: MCU Phase 4 Schedule, Cast, and Story Details

A bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 on Disney+ with the wildly successful WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Marvel Studios certainly hasn’t been resting on its laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters. Not only does it have Black Widow (finally) ready for theatrical release, but we’ve also got Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all in various stages of production, there are also TV series on the way for the likes of Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and more!

Well, if you’ve been a little confused by Marvel’s shifting dates and streaming priorities, never fear! We’ve got a comprehensive release calendar for you here detailing all the forthcoming MCU projects, so you’ll always be able to find the latest updates when you need them.

Let’s take a look at everything Marvel has in store over the next few years…

Loki

Release Date: June 9, 2021

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his most famous role, as Loki finds himself on a heist through time and space “as he steps out of his brother’s shadow” after the events of Avengers: Endgame! Oh, and based on this trailer, there’s all kinds of time-travelling weirdness awaiting, including the return of Heimdall, some other Asgardian hijinks, DB Cooper (yes!), Owen Wilson playing an obscure character based on a beloved Marvel Comics writer, and…Loki possibly running for President!

Tom Hiddleston stars, of course, and the cast also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. Michael Waldron is head writer and Kate Herron is directing.

Black Widow

Release Date: In theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access Friday, July 9, 2021

The Black Widow movie was heading for a May 1, 2020 release before the pandemic, but Disney and Marvel decided to delay it until the industry’s infrastructure was back to some semblance of normal. They seemed absolutely committed to keeping Natasha on a theatrical release rather than sending her to Disney+, but eventually semi-caved in March as it was confirmed that Black Widow would hit both streaming and theaters simultaneously in July.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”

Cate Shortland directed the film, and Scarlett Johansson stars, with Florence Pugh and David Harbour alongside her. One of the movie’s villains is Taskmaster, and we wrote a little bit more about him right here.

Natasha Romanoff will get a prequel movie of sorts here, as we catch up with Widow right around the events of Captain America: Civil War. Will the plot affect her character’s ultimate fate in Endgame? Do not count on it.

What If…?

Release Date: Summer 2021

The beloved comic book series that tells tales of how things might have turned out differently in the Marvel Universe is becoming an animated series on Disney+!

Here’s the official synopsis:

“What If…? flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways…Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles.”

We know that at least a couple of these roles include Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa as well as the return of Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Release Date: September 3, 2021

Simu Liu has been cast as the titular Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as The Mandarin (hey, that name sounds familiar! But this time, we’re getting the real Mandarin on screen). Destin Daniel Cretton is directing from a script by Dave Callaham. Given its “Ten Rings” title, Shang-Chi should be steeped in Marvel lore, going all the way back to the first Iron Man film!

Hopefully this will be Marvel’s most action-packed movie yet. The trailer sure makes us think so.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Release Date: September 17, 2021

Andy Serkis (Mowgli) steps behind the camera for Venom 2, which now boasts the catchy title of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The first film, buoyed by a terrific showing at the Chinese box office, made an absolute ton of money, despite being released to mostly scathing reviews.

Venom: Let There be Carnage will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!

The Eternals

Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021

Acclaimed Nomadland helmer (and Oscar winner!) Chloe Zhao is directing Marvel’s Eternals from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel described the film as an “epic story, spanning thousands of years” that features “a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.”

The cast features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. We meet all these characters in the trailer, which we wrote more about here.

This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, but we’ll finally get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations soon enough!

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Release Date: Dec. 17, 2021

The next Spider-Man movie looks like a big one! Spider-Man: No Way Home will once again take place in the MCU since Marvel and Sony solved their differences, good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wait. Are they trying to make this a multiversal Sinister Six movie? Because…we could be down for that.

Hawkeye

Release Date: Late 2021

Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton to train his replacement as Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop! Apparently based on the brilliant run of comics by Matt Fraction and David Aja, Hawkeye will also prominently feature Lucky the Pizza Dog, one of the great canines in Marvel Comics history.

The cast also includes Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Fra Fee as Kazimerz Kazimierczak, Tony Dalton as Jack “Swordsman” Duquesne, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Alaqua Cox as Maya “Echo” Lopez, and Zahn McClarnon as Willie Lincoln. We wrote more about all these new characters here.

Ms. Marvel

Release Date: Late 2021

Ms. Marvel is finally coming to live action! Here’s the official synopsis for the series…

“Ms. Marvel introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. “A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?”

The cast includes Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

This is going to be a big one, folks, because Kamala is going to be a significant player in Captain Marvel 2. How significant? The title of the movie is now The Marvels!

Morbius

Release Date: January 21, 2022

Spider-Man spinoff Morbius is Sony’s next big Marvel wild card, and it’ll officially be the first spinoff to properly connect to the MCU (even if Marvel Studios still isn’t officially acknowledging it in their own promotional materials the way they are with Spider-Man: No Way Home). Here’s the official synopsis for the film…

“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.”

Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Jared Leto stars as the vampiric title character, and the cast also includes Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release Date: March 25, 2022

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s!

This one has loads of connections to the wider MCU. Elizabeth Olsen will be here as Wanda Maximoff post-WandaVision, and the film will also connect to Spider-Man: No Way Home and its own multiversal ambitions. There are also a few rumors doing the rounds that Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo could be introduced in this sequel. We’ll keep an eye on that and update this if there’s any substance to them.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Release Date: May 6, 2022

Taika Waititi, who gave us the delightful Thor: Ragnarok, will return to write and direct. Chris Hemsworth will be back. Natalie Portman is your new Thor (yes, you read that right, Jane Foster will wield the hammer…just as she did in the comics!). Christian Bale has also joined the cast as the terrifying Gorr the God Butcher. Not only that, this movie will finally put Olympians in the MCU with Russell Crowe as Zeus. Can Hercules be far behind?

Oh, and did we mention that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be along for the ride, too?

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever

Release Date: July 8, 2022

Black Panther 2 is now called Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel has made it official that after the tragic, untimely death of Chadwick Boseman they have no intention of recasting the role of T’Challa, which is absolutely the right move.

Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. Interestingly, Coogler is also bringing a Wakanda TV series to Disney+ at some point in the future, too, and something tells us this Wakanda-centric title for the sequel is a sign of things to come.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel

Release Date: October 7, 2022

Is it technically an MCU movie? Nope. But with all the legal weirdness going on between Marvel and Sony, and this franchise’s very multiversal concept, who’s really to say that it ISN’T an MCU movie either, right? In any case, the sequel to the best Spider-Man movie of all time is coming in 2022 with Avatar: The Last Airbender mastermind Joaquim Dos Santos directing and David Callaham writing.

There’s also an “untitled Marvel movie” still technically scheduled for this date but…that is almost certainly not gonna happen now. Expect whatever that project was to move to one of these below dates or to some other currently unspecified date on the calendar.

Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels

Release Date: November 11, 2022

WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2, which now boasts the title of The Marvels. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!

We have no idea where we’ll find Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the sequel to her hugely successful first standalone MCU entry. Will she be fighting to loosen her former Kree pals’ iron grip on a pre-Avengers galaxy? Or will the follow up film see her fighting for justice in the present?

In any case, we know that she’ll be facing off with Zawe Ashton as a currently-unnamed antagonist, and WandaVision‘s Monica Lambeau (Teyonah Parris) will also return in her superpowered state after the events of that game-changing show. Considering that Monica was once known as “Captain Marvel” in the comics, that title of The Marvels becomes more appropriate. And even MORE appropriate when you realize that Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, will also be making her big screen debut.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Release date: Feb. 17, 2023

Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, making him the first director in MCU history to complete a trilogy…perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

The villain of the film? That will be Kang the Conqueror, who will be played by Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors. The inclusion of Kang opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities for the MCU, and may even tease the arrival of the Fantastic Four down the line! We wrote more about those possibilities right here.

We’re also going to need fast confirmation on Michael Pena’s return as Luis, though. Luis is key…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Release date: May 5, 2023

After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will finally return to complete his spacefaring trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes production on The Suicide Squad for DC, as well as an HBO Max Peacemaker prequel. Once those projects are finished, he’s free to return to the MCU.

Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.

And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are…

Some of those dates could very well be good fits for the following films…

Fantastic Four

The MCU Fantastic Four movie is finally happening! Marvel seems to be hinting that Fantastic Four will be their next priority after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So is it possible that we’ll see it on July 28, 2023? That sure would be a great piece of summer blockbuster real estate to launch what might be the most important piece of the MCU going forward!

Marvel’s first family will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film directed by Jon Watts, who did such a wonderful job with the first two MCU Spider-Man movies. That’s all the information that’s out there at the moment, but as soon as we have more, we’ll update this. It also appears that WandaVision started to set up the Fantastic Four, so stay tuned. We have our own theories on why Marvel went with the Fantastic Four before the X-Men, but that’s another story.

Blade

In 2019, Marvel announced that they will be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we.

Could Marvel decide to drop this in that Oct. 7, 2023 release date? Considering that’s the Halloween season and Blade is, y’know, a vampire hunter, they’d have to be foolish not to, right?

Captain America 4

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman is co-writing a currently-untitled Captain America 4 with another FWS alum, Dalan Musson. Those are pretty much all the details that are currently available on this one at this time, but at least we know that Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson in that incredibly badass Captain America costume they gave him for that show. We wrote some more about the potential story possibilities for this one right here.

There’s no date or director for this one yet, so even 2023 seems like it might be a longshot.

Deadpool 3

Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin will be the writing team tasked with bringing the Merc with a Mouth to the MCU. What a Deadpool 3 could look like in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe is, of course, anybody’s guess, but if anyone can crack wise about the follies of this kind of corporate synergy, it’s Ryan Reynolds.

And then there’s the lingering TV stuff, at least two of which will arrive in 2022, with the balance likely to arrive in 2023…

She-Hulk

Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who ends up with her cousin Bruce’s gamma-irradiated blood. Hilarity certainly ensues. Kevin Feige has promised that since this will be a courtroom show, you never know who else from the MCU could show up.

It’s possible we’ll get She-Hulk on Disney+ in 2022, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.

Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac will play Marc Spector, a disturbed fortune hunter who also happens to be the avenging avatar of an Egyptian moon god. Oscar Isaac is already training hard for the role, and the series is now officially in production, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see this one on Disney+ in 2022.

Ironheart

The first of two series that will explore the legacy of Iron Man and Tony Stark in the MCU, Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a teenager at M.I.T. who creates her own suit of armor to right the wrongs of the world.

Armor Wars

Don Cheadle will reprise his role as Rhodey and will have the solo spotlight in the War Machine armor in a series that deals with a nightmare scenario for the MCU: what if Tony Stark’s Iron Man technology fell into the wrong hands and was getting duplicated by villains? Based on a classic comics run, Armor Wars promises big action and lots of obscure bad guys. We can’t wait.

Secret Invasion

Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos for a series about the shape-shifting Skrull infiltration of Earth. Kingsley Ben-Adir is apparently playing the villain of the series. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Killian Scott also star.

On directing duties are Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) while Mr. Robot vet Kyle Bradstreet is the head writer.

Secret Invasion could be the biggest thing to happen to the MCU since Endgame.

Wakanda

Very few details are available on this one at the moment, but Ryan Coogler will develop at least one Wakanda-set TV series for Disney+. Could this have anything to do with that Wakanda Forever title for Black Panther 2? We wrote more about some of the implications of this here.

Read on AO3 Word count: 2005 Pairing: Reddie

Summary: There's a woman by the window.

He felt her before. Been feeling her for weeks, now. A slight movement as he twists his head in the kitchen. A weird sensation as he sits alone in the living room at night. Locking every window in the house, only to find them unlocked a few hours later.

But now, now she's here. Now he caught her. Perhaps, she caught him.

Eddie has nightmares. A familiar voice makes it a little easier to deal with.

There's a woman by the window.

He can see her silhouette from the corner of his eye.

Every hair dusting his cold skin lifts up and brushes against his clothes like a cactus. Slowly, carefully, he turns his head. Scared to confirm that she's there even though he already has the answer. He felt her before. Been feeling her for weeks, now. A slight movement as he twists his head in the kitchen. A weird sensation as he sits alone in the living room at night. Locking every window in the house, only to find them unlocked a few hours later.

But now, now she's here. Now he caught her. Perhaps, she caught him.

He finally sees her. Her big, open, frozen eyes lock with his. She's smiling through the other side of the glass. A continuous string of blood pulses crowds his ears so there's nothing else he can hear but his own terror. He's unsafe, trapped.

Please, let that window be locked. I locked it today. I did. I remember.

She doesn't move. The smile doesn't falter. Her eyes never leave him.

He tries not to blink but the burning sensation becomes unbearable. And just before it happens against his command, he swears her smile twitches. She’s not there when he opens his eyes.

The first thought is: she’s gone. But the second, most likely, one is: now she’s inside the house.

He pushes that horrible image out of his head with an audible gulp and walks towards the window on uneasy steps. What if she jumps onto the glass while he’s close to it? What if her face doesn’t look normal anymore?

He locks it, again, just before he hears something coming from the next room so, naturally, he runs over there in hopes he can lock everything in time. But when he bursts through the bedroom door, the room is freezing. The curtains are moving with the air coming in through the open glass.

She’s there. One leg over the windowsill, the same smile on her lips and the same big, wide eyes staring back at him.

With an unlikely bravery, he storms over to her and that seems to be enough to scare the woman away. She looks startled for a moment, jumps away from the house, and disappears like before.

He takes a minute to catch his breath and try to make sense of the situation. But he isn’t fooled. Without wasting a second, he closes that same window. He wants to check every part of the house again, but something tells him to go back in the other room, first.

That’s what he does, determined to keep this person away from his home. His steps echo through the walls but the sound is still being muffled under his heartbeat. As he rounds the corner of the doorway, he barely has time to acknowledge the window is, once more, wide open.

They lock eyes.

She’s smiling.

She’s hiding under the dining table.

Eddie opens his eyes with an unnerving calmness, as if he didn’t just have another horrible nightmare. He stares at the darkness of his bedroom, body now on full alert. There’s sweat sticking his clothes to his skin, and the back of his neck is equally attached to the sheet as he lays there on his belly. His breathing is awfully jagged, awfully painful and awfully strained. He finds the faint shape of his inhaler resting on the bedside table. He wants it, he needs it.

But he can’t move.

These nightmares, they’ve always been here. Always this bad, always disturbing and freaky. He’s fine with them. Well, not fine fine. He’s used to them. Ever since he can remember he’s had these kind of dreams. One of the oldest ones he remembers was about the end of the world. He’s had different versions of that one. Sometimes, he sees buildings crashing while he stands on top of one. In that dream, he does nothing but watch. It starts far away, when he sees the first building falling. Then there they go, one by one. The destruction approaches, wastes his whole night as he waits to feel the ground under his feet finally break.

Eventually, there’s no other building standing besides the one he’s on top of. He stares up ahead and waits. He knows he’s going to die. And as soon as he feels his leg going through the roof surface, he wakes up calmly. Always calmly and slowly.

But then the true horror begins. When he wakes up after a nightmare, there’s no chance he can go back to sleep. The first challenge to fight is his breathing. It hurts his tense ribcage until he can get it under control. Then he has to decide whether it’s scarier to keep his eyes open or closed. It really depends on the dream. When he dreams about the world ending, he likes to keep them closed. Or when he dreams he got shot, which is a very common dream for him. But tonight, tonight is a very bad night. His eyes hurt, it feels like he’s about to rip his eyelids apart with how much he’s straining them. He can feel her here, she’s here, with him. There’s a vague image wavering in his imagination that she is laying down on his carpet.

That’s the third issue, the one that keeps him awake for the rest of the night. He can’t leave the nightmare. It carries on to real life, it sticks on his brain and he feeds into it, he allows it to keep going. He’s the one in charge now, so he imagines all the scenarios possible along the lines of the dream.

He imagines the woman peering over the end of the bed, watching him laying down, smiling. All he has to do is lift his head and peer down at his feet, she’ll be there.

But then comes the fourth problem. He really can’t move. He never tried and he refuses to. He bashes in his terror, adrenaline, sweat and thirstiness. And he stays like that until the sun lights up the room and he can hear his mom getting up. Only when she goes to his bedroom to check on him does he master the courage to ball his hands into fists, bend a knee, and finally, finally get those awfully hot bed covers away from his body.

He doesn’t have them all that often, maybe once a month but not precisely. It’s not that hard to let the dreams go once he goes about his day, although he craves company at least on the same day as it happens. He even stays with his mom downstairs watching television until she goes up to her bedroom, following right behind.

Tonight, it’s particularly bad. The woman’s face doesn’t leave his thoughts. She looked like a regular person, except for the extremely open eyes and that unmoving smile, but she could be anyone’s neighbour or even a sweet family member. Eddie shivers, looks at his inhaler and tries to convince his brain that he needs to cover up his head with the heavy blanket on his bed. The only movement of his body are shivers and choked up breaths. Unaware that he wants to cry, Eddie gives in to his vivid imagination that convinces him that one of woman’s legs is right under his bed.

For Eddie, this is the reality: he’s in his bed, it’s probably around 2 a.m. and he isn’t alone. There’s a stranger laying down on his carpet, smiling at the ceiling.

“What’s going on?”

The words don’t from his mouth. That’s the trigger that makes him burst out crying, sure that this is it. This is the end. She’s going to murder him in his own bed and he can’t move a single muscle to protect himself.

Then there’s a pair of hands settling on Eddie’s shoulders, a touch so soft that would confuse the hell out of him if he could pay attention to it. Instead, his throat squeezes and he lets out sobs and panicked whimpers, for he can’t form words. It’s really hard to tell if he’s still dreaming or not, because it feels just like those where you can’t run when you most need to.

“Hey, it’s just me.” It’s merely a whisper, and the hands he felt before are now working together to turn Eddie’s body around. He wants to squeeze his eyes, drown in the darkness. But then he’s lying on his back, finally feeling some cold air brushing his chest, and he sees Richie.

“Hi, buddy.” Richie smiles. Eddie’s gotten used to the dark bedroom by now, so he sees him clearly with the poor light coming in from the window. “You had another nightmare?”

This is when things start clearing up a bit. Sometimes Richie sleeps over at his house. So far, he witnessed one of these episodes, and he had to figure out what to do all alone because Eddie wasn’t exactly able to cooperate. That night was different, Eddie managed to fall back asleep because the dark reality was completely shattered once Richie appeared in it.

Eddie’s eyes swim around Richie’s face, trying to grasp it. He watches him reaching over to the side table and grab the inhaler, pressing it against Eddie’s mouth gently. The sound of it fills up the bedroom as Eddie’s cries die down.

After putting the inhaler back, Richie swipes a thumb under Eddie’s eyes and takes a minute to ponder his options.

“You’re really warm and sweaty, spaghetti.”

Eddie stares at him. It makes him uneasy just to think about Richie pushing the covers to the end of the bed like he did last time. It had taken another hit from the inhaler to get him to calm down, and eventually Richie gave up and buried both of them under the covers. Blankets have that power to them, as if they could save you from anything evil. Eddie still has the woman’s face glued to the back of his mind. As much as he tries to concentrate on Richie, he can only wander a few steps away from the source of his fear. If he doesn’t focus hard enough, he knows he’ll get stuck with her very easily for the rest of the night.

Eventually, Richie sighs and gives in, moving Eddie’s body again so they’re both on his sides. He intertwines their legs, slides one arm under Eddie’s head and uses the other to pull the covers all the way up, leaving just a small crease around their faces so that they can breathe easily.

And then, Richie talks. In soft whispers, enough to keep Eddie’s thoughts away from bad things. About mundane things, funny things, basic things. What he had for dinner, what his plans for the weekend are, whatever new joke he’s working on. And even though Eddie can’t answer, he listens carefully while looking into Richie’s face. Richie watches him back with a nervous blush that can’t be seen in the night, but he keeps on talking and allows Eddie to do whatever it is that he needs to do when he gets in this mind-space. Eddie’s just, studying him or something. But it seems to work so Richie doesn’t care.

After all, Eddie will relax and fall back asleep soon, and then it’ll be Richie studying him, instead. His features, eyes, nose, lips, damp hair glued to his forehead and so on, always unaware that he is doing it, at first. And then fully aware of the guilt settling in his stomach.

It’s a deceiving word. Richie’s nightmares were born under the sun light by the quarry and have been following him ever since then. During the day, painting his nights, keeping him company hour after hour.

He hugs Eddie’s body closer so that he can’t stare at his face any longer. Or at least that’s what he has to tell himself to be able to sleep.

Had another one of those crack fic moments! All the f/o’s under one roof would be absolute madness but for a single fic? It’s... survivable. Bon Apetit!

“We’re going to Area 51 boys!’

Their announcement was met with absolute silence, daylight streaming through the door they’d just burst through. It was as if they’d thrown a grenade into the room and no one was sure if it was live or not.

“Wait… where?’ Frank asked, when no one else wanted to ask the obvious.

“Area. Fifty. One.’ They enunciated each word, still standing in the door as if expecting all of them to get up and get going immediately.

Silence again. Hannibal staring at them with a politely curious expression but internally he was doing quick math. This level of manic commitment had to be at least three pots of coffee. Czernobog, who had no such reservations, took a long slow drag of his cigarette before swiping his hand across the checkerboard with a sigh and grabbed his hammer.

“What?! No!’ Hannibal snapped at him, refusing to move, fingers tightening on his book before turning his attention back to the figure in the doorway. “Tiberius Rex, sit down.’

“No! Hannibal listen-’

“I will not.’

Their jaw set, attempting to stare him down before realizing the futility of that and instead looked towards Heavy.

“Bring Sasha, and call the boys!’

“I do not think Ms. Pauling would approve-’

“Too hell with that uptight cunt!’ Sweeney barked, laughing as he darted out of the room.

“That’s the spirit!’ Sending an air five his way, that he swiped at as his long legs took the stairs three at a time, they turned to Dutch. “You coming? I got a plan.’

They did not have a plan. They were just going to wing it, and hope for the best.

“Tiberius…’ Hannibal slowly stood from the couch, the book placed in his seat. “Why don’t you sit, and we can hear this plan of yours. Frank is a military man, as is Heavy, after a fashion-’

“We can talk on the way, it’s a… twelve-hour drive?’ Waving off the request, they turned their head to the kitchen. “Eddie! EDDIE! Come upstairs, we’re going to go rescue aliens!’

“I thought this wasn’t happening until September or something…’ Frank muttered as he went back to cleaning his guns.

“That’s the beauty of it, that’s months away. They’re only just trying to fortify the base, it’ll be like the Spanish Inquisition!’

“What’s that?’ Sweeney asked, hopping down the last four steps to land with a bang on the floorboards. His shirt was gone, blue streaks curving down from his shoulders, and four slashed across his face. “Where’s my spear?’

“No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!’

They laughed, as he looked briefly confused before shrugging it off and going to hunt down his preferred weapon when not using his fists. Laughter was still bubbling out of them when Eddie finally came out of the basement looking disgruntled.

“They’re not wrong, Cannibal.’ Frank shrugged when the rich red-hued eyes landed on him. “Everyone on social media is screaming September, they’re expecting something probably in November. Just think of it as an early birthday present for them.’

“.... I love you.’ Tiberius whispered, even as Eddie tried to figure out what was going on by the conversation currently circling the room.

“Wait, where are we going, darling?’

“Area 51. It’s where they keep all the alien tech,’ when he looked less than enthusiastic, Tiberius sucked air through their teeth before putting on a serious expression. “It’s also where they… did experiments.’

That was all Eddie needed, his hand lifting to skim over the right side of his face. Hannibal looked like a mix of proud and aghast, stepping around everyone else to take hold of their arm.

“You need to stop this, it was funny but you’re going to get people killed.’ He paused, realizing his stance and his teeth grit together before pushing the frustration away. “A lot of people, very publicly.’

Hand motioning towards Eddie’s back as he left for the kitchen, and one of Hannibal’s knives.

“It’s the publicly thing that’s bothering you, isn’t it?’ They asked, not bothering trying to pull loose. “We can’t wear masks, Hannibal. That would obscure our vision.’

“Your vision is obviously already obscured.’

“That’s rude, you know I can see just fine without my glasses.’

When he let go of their arm, they didn’t rub the area despite how tight his grip had been. Instead, they trailed the direction Sweeney had gone, surprised to find Dutch at their heels.

“So… there are aliens at this military facility?’

“Yes. Supposedly. Probably.’ They finally admitted, peeking in a room and finding it empty. “But isn’t the idea thrilling?’

“I guess it is.’ He was thinking of the money that could be made selling what they found, or even alliances made off world that could be very lucrative. “But we’re driving?’

“Well… I mean I was going to, but I don’t think that we’d all fit in my Ford Focus.’ Frowning as they finally admitted the problem out loud. “Just getting Heavy and Sweeney into Odysseus is a struggle. And I don’t think you guys would be comfortable sitting on each other’s laps…’

Cut off by running smack into Sweeney’s chest, they caught their balance, beaming up at him.

“So wait, aliens? Alright.’

Almost as if he were still trying to convince himself. To be honest, it sounded like a laugh, and that’s all he needed for a reason. Sweeney was more self-destructive than Tiberius who was grinning up at him.

“If you’re going, then you will be bringing bottles of water.’

Tiberius’ eyes rolled. That meant Hannibal wasn’t going, not that they were all that upset at the idea. It was his choice whether or not he was going to, and they were going to respect that. To be fair if any alien in the place was telepathic it might be better if Hannibal didn’t go or they might be more terrified of the rescue party.

“And you, drink now.’

A glass of water entered their vision, and they took it out of habit. Hannibal said drink, eat, they usually did. He was more aware of the last time Tiberius had then they were. But even as the rim of the glass met their lips, they paused, pulling it away to stare at the water suspiciously. Actually, given his current stance on-

“Ow!’

Glass falling to the floor, they grabbed their arm, turning a betrayed expression to Hannibal who didn’t look the least bit chagrined. But they had a high tolerance, it was their saving grace, Tiberius thought to themself even as they felt their head going fuzzy.

“Rude! Go eat yourself.’ They muttered, unable to swipe at him as they felt their body listing to the side.

Sweeney caught them, scowling at Hannibal as he bent to lift them. Arms hanging loosely, head lolled back, he ground his teeth as Hannibal gave the unconscious burden a quick look over before going back into the living room. The Irishman was hot on his heels, frustration making his voice rough.

“Why in the name of Bran did you do that?!’

“When was the last time you saw them sleep?’ Hannibal countered cooly.

He didn’t have an answer for that. That wasn’t really his category. He knew anger, and he knew drinking, and… Hannibal was staring at him as he slowly lowered himself back onto the couch, patting the cushion next to him. Czernobog let out a sigh through his nose as he let the hammer arc down to rest on the floor, plopping back into his chair and setting up the game again.

“So we’re not going?!” Eddie sounded outraged, and Hannibal leveled a cautious look at him.

“To Area 51, where the aliens are?’

“… Yes?’

“Edward, there is no Area 51 for us to go to. They were having… a hysteric episode.’

“Ah… those can be nasty.’

The tension was slow to leave the broad shoulders, but it did, even as his fingers rolled the knife hilt against his palm. Moving towards Sweeney, he ignored the way the taller man’s arms shifted, trying to subtly move Tiberius out of reach.

“What did you give them?’

“A mild sedative is all.’ Hannibal picked up his book, leaning back on the couch. “They’ll wake in a few hours and most likely apologize for their overly energetic outburst earlier.’

“They do that a lot.” Eddie hummed, a small smile playing across his lips before turning back the way he’d come into the event. “Tell them that they need to come down later on, I’ve a new outfit I want to size on them.’

Still looking disgruntled about the whole thing, Sweeney kicked at the coffee table to move it before half falling onto the couch. The only reaction from Tiberius was a sleepy little grunt, which Sweeney felt a flash of guilt over. Heels slamming down on the coffee table, taking a smidge of pleasure at the scowl that flashed across Hannibal’s face.

“So how long has it been since they slept then?’

“I don’t know for sure, but I’ve been around far longer than the rest of you.’ He was smug about that, considering Tiberius’ subconscious aversion to commitments.

“So you just magically know when she’s been up too long?’

Hannibal leveled a look at the irate Irishman, and then cast an only slightly softer look down at the unconscious form in his arms.

“Not magically no, but you get to know a person. They need rest.’ Attention turning back to his book, dismissing the rest of the room, he lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “If you can manage to stop howling.’

“Wait, so now we’re not going?’ Dutch complained, falling into a chair with a huff of irritation.

“No. Tiberius would not hunt aliens.’ Czernobog answered, already lighting another cigarette even though Hannibal glared at him as he did so. A low grating chuckle rumbled out of his chest. “They would hunt monsters, do hunt monsters.’

A pointed look at Dutch had the man flushing, mouth opening to retort only to have his mouth snap shut when Hannibal gave a sharp hiss. Of course he wasn’t the only one that Czernobog looked at, and he didn’t exclude himself. But he was comfortable with being dark, a nicotine stained finger moving a black checker piece, as Heavy sat down across from him to study the board before moving one of the white ones.

“She’s got a type.’ Frank said mockingly when it was clear Dutch was fuming. “But at least she doesn’t try to change us, or try to make us feel bad about the things we do. So, I’m alright with it.’

“I don’t require changing.” Dutch snapped, arms crossing over his chest as he slumped in the chair, ankles stacking.

No one argued with him, mostly because it was clear he was spoiling for a fight, secondarily because too much fighting meant waking the unconscious mess that was cuddling closer to Sweeney’s chest, smearing blue paint on their face. Slowly the room quieted again, as if Tiberius hadn’t kicked the door in not twenty minutes ago and set the lot of them on edge one way or another.

“Maybe we should offer a trip? They might like going woods walking?’ Sweeney muttered, chin resting on their curls. “How long until the heat drops off?’

“Not til after their birthday, so maybe as a gift for Mabon. It may be cooler in September.’

“Yeah, that sounds about right.’ He paused when Tiberius made a noise, not a word by any means, but it was something. When they settled again, Sweeney smirked. “How much did you give them?’

“Enough to drop a small horse, they metabolize too quickly otherwise.’

“…. A houseful of monsters indeed.’

Hulu’s The Path Season 2, Episode 10: “Restitution” Directed by Patrick Norris Written by Jessica Goldberg

She and Cal (Hugh Dancy) spent a passionate night together. But what’s next in that regard? Do they empower one another to keep being awful? Well, she’s having a dream right now. She sees Marshall the farmer down at the buffet, where she starts pounding down bacon before almost choking. She’s actually right next to Cal, in bed. A strange dream, though with those involved in Meyerism there’s often something true in all their dreams. Abe Gaines (Rockmond Dunbar) brings all Sarah’s blackmail to his boss. They think it’s possible to bring down the movement, although many “morally reprehensible” people won’t get their just desserts, walking away for just a couple of the higher ups. Still, that’s the usual reality for many of these white collar crimes. Meanwhile, Hawk (Kyle Allen) is meeting up with Ashley (Amy Forsyth) for the first time in so long. He also downplays his relationship with Noa (Britne Oldford), that they’re only friends. Very clear he hasn’t gotten over Ashley, still holding onto strong feelings under the surface, and barely. Also there’s Eddie (Aaron Paul), still in contact with Sarah’s estranged sister Tessa (Alexia Landeau). They talk about the cult, as well as the Denier Policy. He wants a group of Deniers to walk onto the Meyerist compound and say: “We exist.” Yet Tessa doesn’t believe that it can happen, or she isn’t sure. The more Eddie talks, the more she’s convinced. But it still isn’t so easy.

Back with his mother and the cult deprogrammer, Sean (Paul James) is being pried out of the movement. All the same Mary (Emma Greenwell) isn’t there, and the deprogrammer casts further doubt on all the Meyerist bullshit. Sean is paranoid, worried, and who wouldn’t be? These people play hardball. Ashley and Hawk talk about their former relationship. Why she broke it off, got away. He has to run off, they’ve got to be back to the compound by sundown. Before that he tells Ashley about watching his mother onstage, that she talked about “self love” and things that weren’t related to Meyerism. Is he finally seeing the real light? That of TRUTH outside their cult? He and Ashley embrace with a kiss. Perhaps it’s the first step. Hypocrites Cal and Sarah speak about “transgression” that they’ve all experienced, meditating in a group for restitution. Helping others to find their own transgressive acts, to cast them out. What nonsense. Yet there they all are, meditating and thinking of their faults, all crying. And none of them will ever really face the truth, only the veiled truth in Meyerism. At the same time, Felicia (Adriane Lenox) guides Eddie through his own meditation. Felicia: “Rest. Tomorrow, we act.”

Sarah finds out Marshall the farmer died weeks ago. This is one of those strings of guilt that keeps tugging at her heart. I wonder if she’ll manage to get herself past all the horrible things she’s done. Can she make ACTUAL restitution, instead of feigned restitution in the form of Meyerist meditation? Not sure. If so, she’ll be going to jail. Straight up. Even if she doesn’t do it herself, Abe is on the case. And Cal, he’s got far more than just what we’ve seen in the series weighing on his shoulders. The fact Dr. Meyers molested him long ago is the bottom of the iceberg; what he’s done throughout the episodes of this series, what we’ve seen, is merely the tip. At the park Eddie gets to hang with his daughter Summer (Aimee Laurence). And it’s sad to see her worry about their family, dragged into all the mess of cults and the madness of her mother’s side of the family. Tragic. At home she isn’t too happy with her family and doesn’t want to do take part in their latest celebration, or whatever they do. Simultaneously, big brother Hawk is in bed with Ashley, suddenly falling farther from the movement yet hanging on at the same time; I’m interested most in seeing his arc, what’ll happen with this new development of Ashley showing back up in his life. Best of all is her influence, pointing out how Hawk’s only moved from the control of his mother to the control of Cal. She wants better for him, to make him see he can control his own life without needing others, even her. He can be his own man. During dinner, Tessa arrives, out of nowhere. She confronts everybody – her brother Russel, sister Sarah, her mom, her dad, everyone else. She likewise reveals she and Eddie are in touch. Nobody reacts too well, Hank (Peter Friedman) is devastated. Then Tessa tells everybody Sarah wanted to leave, too. Had her bags packed and everything. Nice; another family divide. This throws everyone into a mixed up place, even Russel, particularly considering the fact Hank sees his daughter fairly regularly and keeps it secret from others.

Sean later tells Mary about who the deprogrammer is, that she’s trying to get him back home, away from the Meyerists. Mary doesn’t like that he lied. He says he’d like to go home, with her. To make a life together away from the movement. “The only thing that‘s keeping me here is you,” he tells her. Love this shot – as they talk, essentially discussing life in a cage with the cult, their faces are captured through the bars of the crib they’re painting. Beautiful visuals. More revelations: Cal offered Ashley and her family a house to break up with Hawk. She says he is a bad man, that Eddie never would’ve done that to him. This confuses and frustrates Hawk, obviously. Never easy to see the world you know and love and bought into start crumbling around you. Regardless, Ashley’s only trying to help him. She has nothing to gain. It breaks her heart to see him entrapped by that insane cult. Eddie gets a visit from Sarah, a pissed off visit. He tries to tell her it’s all about fixing things, mending bridges. She wants him to let go of their relationship, she doesn’t want to move outside of her safe little Meyerist world; especially not after all the crimes she’s committed in the name of Dr. Steven Meyers’ movement. Next day with Felicia and Richard, Eddie tells them he doesn’t want all the responsibility of leading the movement in the right direction. He says he can’t do it. But it’s all left up to the Light, Felicia says. Everybody’s painting tiny coffins. They put their sins inside, to “relinquish” them, or y’know, whatever the hell they believe. Hank relinquishes the Denier Policy. Nicole relinquishes Sam Field a.k.a Abe. So basically, it’s a type of confession, in aid of their own souls. To cleanse themselves. To lie to themselves about their guilt, their mistakes. A couple good things: Mary agrees to talk with the deprogrammer for Sean, and Gab tells Hank she wants to see their daughter again. Cal uses this time to relinquish his mother, her ashes into the waves. To let go of her, all that she represents. Yeah, right. It’ll take far more than a bit of water to cleanse ole Cal. On the beach, Richard burns all the relinquishing coffins in the other half of their ritual. He remembers the one bearing Sarah’s sins. He brings it to Eddie, who opens and reads, discovering his estranged wife has been with Cal, though she’s willing to bear the burden of guilt for every other horrible thing she’s done all year. This is heartbreaking for Eddie to read. Necessary, to push him towards leadership.

What I love most about The Path is its resistance to tell a clean, happy story, where the families are likely to rejoice at the end and come together again. No, it isn’t like that. The Lanes are on the brink of all out destruction; hard to tell which of them will be left standing, or faithful, once all is said and done. Such a great show, excellently paced writing with plenty of drama and mystery to steer the ship. I don’t know what others are talking about when they trash the series. Spectacular show, that I hope will have another season despite however things wind up in the remaining episodes. Upcoming Marvel Movies Release Dates: MCU Phase 4 Schedule, Cast, and Story Details

A bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 on Disney+ with the wildly successful WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Marvel Studios certainly hasn’t been resting on its laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters. Not only does it have Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all in various stages of production, there are also TV series on the way for the likes of Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk!

Oh, but there’s more. Marvel Studios just revealed a teaser reel celebrating everything they’ve built so far, with teases of NEW projects including a newly-named Captain Marvel 2 (The Marvels) and Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. Check it out, and try not to get chills while you watch it. We dare you.

Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Release date: May 5, 2023

After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will become the first Marvel director to ever complete a trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes production on The Suicide Squad for DC, as well as an HBO Max Peacemaker prequel. Once those projects are finished, he’s free to return to the MCU.

Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.

And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are…

Fantastic Four

The MCU Fantastic Four movie is finally happening! Marvel’s first family will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film directed by Jon Watts, who did such a wonderful job with the first two MCU Spider-Man movies. That’s all the information that’s out there at the moment, but as soon as we have more, we’ll update this. It also appears that WandaVision started to set up the Fantastic Four, so stay tuned. We have our own theories on why Marvel went with the Fantastic Four before the X-Men, but that’s another story.

Based on that sizzle reel we showed at the top of this article, Marvel seems to be hinting that Fantastic Four will be their next priority after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So is it possible that we’ll see it on July 28, 2023? That sure would be a great piece of summer blockbuster real estate to launch what might be the most important piece of the MCU going forward! Nov. 3 would be fine, but that one could be a better fit for…

Blade

Well this one was a surprise. In 2019, Marvel announced that they will be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we.

Could Marvel decide to drop this in that Nov. 3, 2023 release date? Maybe with some Halloween-season previews to hype it up? We don’t know, nor do we know how far along this one is.

And now we’re into the stuff that’s even further in the future.

Deadpool 3

She-Hulk

It’s possible we’ll get She-Hulk on Disney+ in 2022, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.

Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac will play Marc Spector, a disturbed fortune hunter who also happens to be the avenging avatar of an Egyptian moon god. Oscar Isaac is already training hard for the role, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see this one on Disney+ in 2022.

Ironheart

Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion could be the biggest thing to happen to the MCU since Endgame.

A bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 on Disney+ with the wildly successful WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Marvel Studios certainly hasn’t been resting on its laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters. Not only does it have Shang-Chi, Eternals, Thor 4 and Doctor Strange 2 all in various stages of production, there are also TV series on the way for the likes of Hawkeye, Ms Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk!

Venom 2 will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Release Date: September 3, 2021

This movie has been delayed a whole bunch of times. Let’s hope we see it come to our screens soon!

The Eternals has completed principal photography and is in post-production. Acclaimed Nomadland helmer Chloe Zhao is directing from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel described the film as an “epic story, spanning thousands of years” that features “a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.”

This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, having moved from February of 2021 to November. We’ll get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations eventually!

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Release Date: Dec. 17, 2021

The next Spider-Man movie finally has a title! Spider-Man: No Way Home will once again take place in the MCU since Marvel and Sony solved their differences, good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This one, well…this might be a live action Spider-Verse movie from the sound of it. Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from the maligned Amazing Spider-Man films and Alfred Molina will return from the Raimi era as Doctor Octopus. Wait. Are they trying to make this a multiversal Sinister Six movie? Because…we could be down for that.

Hawkeye

Morbius

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release Date: March 25, 2022

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but has bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s!

Thor: Love and Thunder

Release Date: May 6, 2022

Black Panther 2

Release Date: July 8, 2022

Black Panther 2 is still on Disney’s release schedule, despite the tragic, untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman. Marvel has made it official that they have no intention of recasting the role of T’Challa, which is absolutely the right move.

Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. We have more information on Black Panther 2 right here. Interestingly, Coogler is also bringing a Wakanda TV series to Disney+ at some point in the future, too.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel

Release Date: October 7, 2022

Captain Marvel 2

Release Date: November 11, 2022

WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!
