Ok so remember the Warner Brothers annual blooper reels of Breakdowns and Blow-Ups? For some reason, this tiny outtake from "The Beast with Five Fingers" was always missing from online collections. I knew it existed as an extra on one DVD or another, but I did not know which. However, thanks to "The Lost One" bio, I found another place where this was shown: a 1991 documentary called Here's Looking at You, Warner Bros. Thank you, Internet Archive. I'm not sure why this one had French subtitles burned in but it's somehow funnier this way.
Wonderful drawing of Peter Lorre by Schlockluster_Video, from one of the behind-the-scenes comedy stills during production of "The Beast With Five Fingers."
So today was the night I watched these four Peter Lorre movies!
I had: The Face behind the Mask, The Boogie man will get you, The beast with five fingers and The Man who knew too much.
If I had to make a rating I would say (Maybe spoiler alert?) :
1. Place takes: The Beast with five fingers. Its a very cool movie, and you dont espect whats coming to you. Its very suprising and keeps the suspension up the whole time. The end is a little bit crazy and very short, also something you wouldnt espect. Also the soundtrack is pretty sick! XD It‘s like being pretty serious the whole time but at the end its suddently a very comedic ending.
2nd Place: The Boogie Man will get you. Just a very funny and nice movie. Boris Karloff plays such a cute character, and Peter plays Doc. Lorentz just amazing, with his litte cat in the Jacket! (I watched the movies so that The Boogie Man will get you was after The Face behind the mask, which was also a very nice contrast)
3rd Place: The Man who knew too much. Even though I watched it multiple times by now, I still dont get a few parts of the storyline (probably just because of my lack of the english language…) But apart from that I like that movie very much. Lorre‘s Character is soooo cool, I really like him. He plays him exactly how I thought he would play him! Also he looks very epic!
4th Place: The Face behind the mask. I dont know what I was expecting from that movie, but it was not what I got. I mean, its a sad movie without a happy ending, but Lorre is of course rocking his role as Janos, but I dont know, something bothers me in that movie…
All in all, I am very happy with this movie night, and I will definitely do it again! :))
ok so i know for my gifset ill have to crop them, different movies different uh ratios, i think a square might be best but i have to see the other scenes and compare. i think the first gif looks better than the second, less grainy. and the third is the original
the beast with five fingers is a funny movie because it's about a disembodied hand that kills people. and the movie needs you to accept the idea that there might just be a disembodied hand killing people. it turns out to not be a disembodied hand killing people. then an aggressively italian man looks at the camera and goes imagine! a disembodied hand! how absurd! and then the movies over
