#the classification system isn't perfect

Curious: what are your favorite type of fairy stories listed in the Aarne-Thompson enciclopedia classification?
First off, it's nice to meet you and thank you for asking! Secondly, I want to preface this: I'm not a student or a scholar of folklore as a genre, and my knowledge of ATU is limited to what I've managed to find online over the years. More often than not, it's either something I've found on JStor in college, something in a Maria Tatar book, or this website.
Still, I love seeing these stories and all their variations across times and places. Without further ado:
306: The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes: I love the mystery element of this story, and I'm forever intrigued by all the variations of the other world the women travel to, whether it's the palace of Indra, the court of Satan, or something else entirely. Many versions attribute their actions to some curse that must be broken to achieve a heterosexual happy ending, but it's in the in-between that this story really sings to me. And a not-quite-variant of it, "Kate Crackernuts", may just be my favorite fairy tale of all time; how often is the ugly (or at least, "less bonny") stepsister the hero of her own story?
310: The Maiden in the Tower: I'm a sucker for a magical chase, and Rapunzel's relatives absolutely provide. My favorites include "Snow-White-Fire-Red", "The Canary Prince", and "Louliyya, Daughter of Morgan".
311: Magic Flight: Stories of magical escapes from dire situations, like "Sweetheart Roland", "The White Dove", "The Fox Sister", and "The Tail of the Princess Elephant".
407: The Flower Girl: Plants who become women or vice versa, often coupled with an escape from an abusive romance. I love these stories purely for the folkloric weirdness factor: "A Riddling Tale" (shout-out to Erstwhile for introducing me to this one), "The Gold-Spinners", "The Girl in the Bay Tree", and "Pretty Maid Ibronka".
451: Brothers as Birds: This one's purely on my love for the Grimms' "Six Swans" and "Seven Ravens". I love a resilient heroine who draws her strength from her family. I admittedly haven't read many others, but these two mean so much to me they get a place here entirely on the strength of these two.
510B: All-Kinds-Of-Fur: The story of a woman's escape from her incestuous father who then gets a Cinderella ending. I admire the heroine's courage in face of an all too real type of monster. Grimms' is a favorite, as is "Florinda" (which could also qualify as 514), "Princess in a Leather Burqa", "The She-Bear", and "Nya-Nya Bulembu".
514: The Shift of Sex: I first came across this story when I stumbled on Psyche Z. Ready's terrific thesis some years ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. All of these variations from all over the world -- I find it cathartic to know that we've been asking these questions about gender and sexuality forever, and a happy ending is an imaginative possibility.
709: Fairest of Them All: This I owe squarely to Maria Tatar's anthology from a few years ago. Unfortunately, this also means that there are several I can't find online, including "Kohava the Wonder Child" (a rare Jewish heroine in a genre infamous for how it absorbs anti-Semitism) and "King Peacock" (one of the few African American fairy tales I know, also included in Tatar's collaboration with Henry Louis Gates). I love "Princess Aubergine", "Little Toute-Belle", and especially "Gold-Tree and Silver-Tree" - my little bi self was elated to stumble across a princess who lives happily ever after with her kind and gentle limbo husband and her cunning and resourceful wife.
Even as a hobbyist, I love folklore and fairy tales. I love these little glimpses into other cultures, and I love the way these story structures act as magnets for so many nuances of people's lives across history. Still, I hope this answers your question, gives a glimpse into my experience with fairy tales as a genre, or (at the very least) gives you some new and interesting stories to read!

Danganronpa Ultimate Categorization
Welcome back to another episode of: Jade is a nerd about something absolutely useless! Today's topic: Talent classification in Danganronpa/Fangans.
In the process of making my own fangan/s, I've created a classification system for the types of talents you can give characters. These classifications are...
Arts: Talents that are involved in the visual arts, performing arts, or fashion. Encompasses performers of all types, any type of visual artist, or anyone involved in fashion. (Ex. Actor, Abstract Artist, Model)
Practical: Talents that focus on a specialized skill or work with your hands. Also includes any talents that are religious or spiritual in nature. (Ex. Mechanical Engineer, Detective, Shrine Maiden)
Academic: Talents that are recognized by how much knowledge or experience a character has in an academic field. Covers most science, literature, math, and research based talents. (Ex. Chemist, Theologian, Archaeologist)
Sports: Talents relating to athletic skill. (Ex. Footballer, Kickboxer, Bowler)
Novelty: Talents given to a person who is special simply by existing. Can also be given to characters who win a contest for their talent. Includes Lucky/Unlucky Students, royalty, and non-human characters. (Ex. Lucky Student, Student, Princess)
This system of classification was based on my experience in the community over about three or four years, seeing many other people's original characters as well as creating my own. I found many fell into these categories. My "perfect" ratio, which my friends and I used as a guideline for making our fangan casts, is 4 arts : 4 practical : 4 academic : 2 sports: 2 novelty. I felt this ratio kept things even and grounded.
A few months ago, I began to wonder if my "perfect" ratio was more of my own creation than an actual pattern I saw. I thought, in the event it was, that I would come up with a mathematically accurate ratio that better represented the talent distribution of Danganronpa and its fan projects. This was my attempt at doing just that.
Data Collection
For this, I tried to collect as varied of a sample as possible. I included the three mainline Danganronpa games and sixteen fangans, ranging from very popular ones to very obscure ones. The fangans sampled for this analysis were...
Danganronpa Another
Super Danganronpa Another 2
Danganronpa Despair Time
Brave Danganronpa Coward's Paradise
Project Eden's Garden
Danganronpa He(art)less Deceit
Danganronpa Hushed Whispers
Danganronpa Muave
Danganronpa Despair's Revival
Danganronpa Re:Birth
Danganronpa Twisted Truths
Danganronpa Survivor's Guilt
Danganronpa Despair's Flame (my fangan! also the one where the talent ratio originated)
Danganronpa Cyberspace
Danganronpa Akeda Amusements
Danganronpa Lost Paradise (my other fangan that isn't released anywhere but I'm counting anyway)
I figured out the talent ratio for each individual game by looking through their casts and sorting them with my classification system. Ultimate ???'s were thrown out if possible (such as in the case of Akeda Amusements, where Hanari was thrown out due to the fangan having seventeen participants) and if not, they were counted as novelty.
Also, shout out to Yuki Maeda and Teruya Ōtori for managing to count for two different data sets despite my best efforts at finagling a way to keep them confined to one.
Observations
Tumblr media
The first thing I noticed in looking at the ratios for canon Danganronpa was that Academic ultimates are underrepresented compared to what I initially remembered. It had been a while since I revisited the mainline games, and it was a shock to be reminded of that. I was also reminded, but not quite as shocked by the greater emphasis on practical ultimates.
In fangans, the focus on practical ultimates continues to be heavy, with none having less than two. There was also less focus on sports ultimates, with the majority having only one or two compared to the three that the mainline games had a majority of the time. They also tend to have more academic ultimates.
I think that this could be explained by looking at the types of people who make fangans. The majority of people I know who make fangans have very particular knowledge about certain fields due to experience or heavy research, and more often than not these fields do not include sports. They are more likely to make characters based on their experiences and knowledge that they can then insert into the story to make it seem more authentic.
I also, unsurprisingly, found that my "perfect" ratio was not reflected in many of the fangans I looked at. There was only one besides my own that followed that ratio.
Tumblr media
Now, if my "perfect" ratio is not the mathematically perfect ratio, then what is?
According to the data collected for the canon games, this is.
Tumblr media
This just so happens to also be the ratio for Trigger Happy Havoc.
According to the data collected from the fangans, this is the perfect ratio.
Tumblr media
The only fangan that followed this ratio exactly was Akeda Amusements. V3 also had this distribution.
When considering both mainline and fan made games, the perfect ratio was this.
Tumblr media
Ironically, not a single mainline game or fan game followed this ratio.
Out of curiosity, I also calculated the standard deviation for each data set.
Tumblr media
Canon Danganronpa has little to no variation, conveying that talent ratios are quite consistent between games. The biggest variation would be in the novelty category, making sense as V3 scaled down the amount of novelty ultimates compared to the other two games.
Tumblr media
The fangans are shown to have a much larger variation. Though I can't be surprised by this, as perhaps it is an unfair comparison. The mainline Danganronpa games were written by mostly the same team and had less to sample from, while the fangans have not only a larger sample size in which to deviate, but many different writers that think differently about talent distribution.
Final Thoughts
In putting this all together, I found that my classification system, while not perfect in any sense of the word, has some validity to it. If I wanted to, I could definitely make some improvements to it (especially in distinguishing between certain academic and practical fields from novelty), but as of now it works perfectly fine as an aide in cast creation for me.
My ratio is also not perfect, which was an expected outcome. Really none of the ratios I found are perfect, with none of them representing more than one or two of any mainline or fan made game. While ratios like the ones I found can be good for making sure you have a balanced distribution of talents, they aren't required to make a good cast. Personally, I'll continue using my personal "perfect" ratio as a baseline for any cast I make in the future.
I also had a lot of fun making this, and hope I can find a way to make more posts like this in the future. Thank you for reading this.

I've been starting to wonder at night of the Biological classifications of objects. Is it a 4th domain? an animal kingdom? Some funny looking protists?
as in taxonomy? we've begun working out a rough system for this.
Tumblr media
the system isn't perfect, but it's a start, especially with species that are as unique and hard to classify as objects.

Book 15 In the Land of Invented Languages
What do Gowron and Hildegard of Bingen have in common?
This week's Dewey was characteristically tricky. 494 was Turkic, Finno-Ugric and Dravidian languages. Unfortunately it was all dictionaries and language learning guides, which absolutely don't lend themselves to less than a week reading, so I went up to 49X "Other languages". Eventually I found an available, interesting looking book, Arika Okrent's In the Land of Invented Languages. And it was interesting!
I was stunned that once again, our old friend the Royal Society popped up. The first major attempt to create a universal perfect language was John Wilkins who you may remember as "Nose C" from my first art project. While his efforts failed, even after persisting when his only copy of his manuscript for the language was consumed at the printer in the London Fire of 1666, he did manage to do some good with it. Apparently Roget dug the way he classified words and it helped inspire the form of his thesaurus and Linnaeus was inspired by his hierarchical ordering of things that eventually became our species classification system.
Okrent covers the broad spectrum of invented languages, but pays special attention to Wilkins' effort, Esperanto, Blissymbol, Loglan/Lojban, and Klingon. This book talks about how invented languages can challenge our preconceived notions and I have to admit that I didn't pay much attention to information about the author and when she mentioned her husband, I was like, "Wow, he's gay? Cool!" Oops.
Tumblr media
But besides exposing my internalized misogyny, I learned some interesting things. Apparently Hildegard of Bingen is the first person known to have invented a language and people are still arguing about why. There was an artificial language, Láadan, created for women by Suzette Haden Elgin that didn't take off. Of course that made it the rule, not the exception, as the book lists 500 artificial languages with many more unknowingly or deliberately left off for space. And apparently Tolkien was so ashamed of his love for his artificial languages he sort of wrote a book (Lord of the Rings) as a cover for his work on them.
Of course Okrent mentions the Onion article "Klingon Speakers Now Outnumber Navajo Speakers" which apparently thankfully isn't true of Navajo, but could be of many Native languages. Klingon was invented by a real linguist for Star Trek III and the author estimates maybe 30 people can speak it fluently enough for a conversation (but many more study it making it one of the most successful artificial languages out there).
BEST LINE: "We sang "Guantanamera" in Esperanto on ten separate occasions in ten different Cuban musical styles."
SHOULD YOU READ THIS BOOK? If you have any interest in linguistics it's definitely worth a read. My only real complaint is the topics seem to jump around a bit, but I suppose it really couldn't be helped given the non-linear aspect of the connections of language.
ART PROJECT: Gowron and Hildegard of Bingen both are associated with artificial languages. I was going to try to translate Tiptoe through the Tulips into Klingon as part of it, but kinda gave up and just went with the motif for a drawing instead. I'm not entirely pleased with how my tulip brush came out, but not entirely displeased either. I love making brushes.

What is the Highest Number of IQ levels?
Have you ever wondered who has the highest IQ in the world? The concept of intelligence and how to measure it has fascinated humankind for centuries. IQ tests, designed to assess cognitive abilities, have become a widely recognized tool, but the question of "highest IQ" is shrouded in a surprising amount of mystery. This blog post will delve into the enigma of the highest IQ levels ever recorded, exploring the facts, controversies, and limitations of relying solely on a single score to define intelligence.
Tumblr media
We'll begin by introducing the concept of IQ and how it's measured. Then, we'll tackle the intrigue surrounding the "highest IQ" title, including the case of Marilyn vos Savant, who once held the Guinness World Record for the highest IQ. We'll also explore why Guinness no longer tracks this record. Next, we'll venture into the realm of historical claims of exceptionally high IQs, examining the fascinating, yet often difficult-to-verify, cases of individuals like William James Sidis.
As we delve deeper, we'll explore the question of whether achieving a perfect score on an IQ test is even possible. We'll unpack the scoring system and discuss the theoretical limitations that might prevent someone from reaching the top. We'll also shed light on the concept of "ceiling effects" in IQ testing, a phenomenon that can occur when a test simply isn't challenging enough to fully assess the abilities of someone with an exceptionally high IQ.
Moving beyond raw numbers, we'll take a closer look at how IQ scores are classified. We'll introduce the standard IQ classification system, providing a clear understanding of different IQ ranges and their corresponding descriptions. However, we won't stop there. We'll also emphasize the importance of interpreting IQ scores within context, acknowledging various factors that can influence a person's performance on such tests.
Tumblr media
The debate surrounding the validity of IQ tests is a complex one. We'll explore both sides of the argument, examining potential biases and limitations of IQ tests while also acknowledging their value in specific contexts. We'll then introduce alternative perspectives on intelligence and its measurement, highlighting the importance of considering a broader range of human capabilities.
Finally, we'll wrap up by summarizing the key takeaways and emphasizing the importance of fostering a multifaceted understanding of intelligence. Intelligence is a complex concept that goes far beyond a single number. We'll encourage you to celebrate the vast spectrum of human potential and explore the many ways in which intelligence manifests itself in the world.
What is IQ and How is it Measured?
Tumblr media
Before we delve into the elusive territory of the "highest IQ," let's establish a foundational understanding of IQ itself. IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient, a score derived from standardized tests designed to assess human cognitive abilities. These abilities typically include:
Logical reasoning: The ability to analyze information, identify patterns, and draw sound conclusions.
Problem-solving: The capacity to approach challenges creatively and effectively.
Spatial awareness: The ability to understand and manipulate spatial relationships.
Verbal comprehension: The skill of understanding and using language effectively.
Working memory: The ability to hold and manipulate information in your mind for short periods.
IQ tests typically involve a series of timed questions that become progressively more difficult. Performance on these questions is then compared to a standardized norm group to generate an IQ score. The average IQ score is 100, with a standard deviation of 15. This means that roughly two-thirds of the population will score within the range of 85 to 115. Scores above 130 are considered "gifted," while scores below 70 may indicate intellectual disability.
It's important to remember that IQ tests are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding intelligence. They provide a snapshot of cognitive abilities at a particular point in time, but they don't capture the full spectrum of human potential. Factors such as cultural background, educational opportunities, and test-taking anxiety can all influence a person's performance on an IQ test.
Guinness World Records and the Controversy: Unveiling the Highest IQ Scores
Tumblr media
The concept of the "highest IQ ever recorded" has captivated the public imagination for a long time. For a period, the Guinness World Records even recognized and celebrated individuals with exceptionally high IQ scores.
One such individual is Marilyn vos Savant, who, in the 1980s, scored incredibly high on two different standardized IQ tests. Her scores were documented in the Guinness World Records, with one estimate placing her IQ at a staggering 228. Savant's exceptional cognitive abilities were undeniable, and she has used her platform to promote education and challenge traditional notions of intelligence.
However, the celebration of "highest IQ" was short-lived. In the early 1990s, Guinness World Records made the decision to discontinue tracking this category. There were several reasons behind this move. One key concern was the growing recognition of the limitations of IQ tests. As we discussed earlier, IQ tests can be culturally biased and susceptible to factors beyond a person's inherent cognitive abilities. Another concern was the potential misuse of the "highest IQ" title. Guinness worried that it could inflate egos and overshadow other important aspects of human potential.
Despite the discontinuation of the record, the allure of exceptionally high IQ scores persists. Historical figures like William James Sidis, a child prodigy who supposedly possessed an IQ exceeding 250, continue to capture our imagination. However, verifying such claims from the past can be extremely difficult. The IQ tests used back then may not be comparable to modern standardized tests, and much of the evidence surrounding these historical figures is anecdotal.
The Enigmas of History: Individuals with Allegedly High IQs
The quest to identify individuals with the highest IQs has extended beyond documented scores and into the realm of historical figures. These cases, often shrouded in legend and lacking the rigor of modern testing, present a fascinating yet challenging puzzle.
One such case is William James Sidis, a child prodigy born in 1909. Sidis is claimed to have possessed an IQ exceeding 250, supposedly learning several languages by the age of two and enrolling at Harvard at the tender age of 11. While his intellectual abilities were undeniable, verifying the exactness of his IQ score is difficult. The tests used in his youth may not be directly comparable to contemporary standardized tests. Additionally, much of the information surrounding Sidis comes from anecdotal accounts and newspaper articles, which can be prone to exaggeration.
Another historical figure often mentioned in discussions of exceptionally high IQ is Goethe, the famed German polymath. Estimates of Goethe's IQ range from 210 to 225, suggesting an extraordinary intellect that transcended the boundaries of literature and delved into science and philosophy. However, similar to the case of Sidis, these estimates are based on retrospective analysis and not on formal IQ testing during Goethe's lifetime.
It's important to approach these historical claims with a critical eye. While these individuals undoubtedly possessed remarkable intellectual abilities, the lack of standardized testing methods and the potential for exaggeration make it difficult to definitively determine their exact IQ scores.
Why a Perfect Score Might Be Unrealistic: Demystifying Perfect Scores on IQ Tests
The concept of achieving a perfect score on an IQ test sparks curiosity. After all, if IQ tests measure cognitive ability, wouldn't a perfect score represent the pinnacle of human intelligence? However, there are a few key factors that make achieving a perfect score on a standardized IQ test rather unlikely.
Firstly, let's revisit the scoring system of typical IQ tests. Most IQ tests are designed such that the average score falls around 100, with a standard deviation of 15. This means the test is constructed to distribute scores along a bell curve, with the majority of scores concentrated around the average and progressively fewer scores at the extremes (both very high and very low).
One reason why a perfect score might be unrealistic is the inherent limitations of the test itself. IQ tests typically assess a specific range of cognitive abilities, such as logical reasoning, problem-solving, and verbal comprehension. While these are undoubtedly important aspects of intelligence, they don't capture the full spectrum of human potential. Creativity, emotional intelligence, and social intelligence are just a few examples of important intelligences that might not be adequately measured by traditional IQ tests.
Another factor to consider is the concept of "ceiling effects." Ceiling effects occur when a test simply isn't challenging enough to accurately assess the abilities of someone with an exceptionally high IQ. Imagine a test designed for children – it would likely be too easy for an adult to achieve a perfect score. Similarly, an IQ test designed for the average population might not be difficult enough to fully distinguish between individuals at the very top end of the cognitive ability spectrum.
So, while there's no definitive answer to whether a perfect score is absolutely impossible, the limitations of the tests themselves and the focus on a specific range of abilities make it highly unlikely.
A Glimpse into the IQ Spectrum: A Table and Understanding the Context
We've delved into the complexities of measuring intelligence and the limitations of relying solely on IQ scores. Now, let's shift gears and explore how IQ scores are typically classified. This will help us understand the context in which exceptionally high scores are interpreted.
The IQ Classification System
Here's a table outlining the standard IQ classification system:
Tumblr media
Considering the Context
As you can see from the table, IQ scores are categorized along a spectrum. An exceptionally high score, like those we discussed earlier, falls within the "exceptionally gifted" or "profoundly gifted" categories. However, interpreting these scores requires considering the context in which they were achieved.
Here are some factors to keep in mind:
Type of IQ test: Different IQ tests assess cognitive abilities in slightly different ways. A score on one test may not be directly comparable to a score on another.
Age of the test taker: IQ scores can fluctuate slightly over time, and performance on IQ tests can be affected by factors like fatigue or test anxiety.
Cultural background: IQ tests can be culturally biased, potentially disadvantaging individuals from non-dominant cultures.
By considering these contextual factors, we gain a more nuanced understanding of what an exceptionally high IQ score might signify.
The Great Debate: Strengths and Weaknesses of IQ Tests
Tumblr media
IQ tests have been a source of fascination and controversy for decades. Proponents hail them as a valuable tool for identifying gifted individuals and assessing cognitive abilities. Critics argue that IQ tests are culturally biased, limited in scope, and don't capture the full spectrum of human intelligence.
Strengths of IQ Tests
Standardization: IQ tests are administered and scored in a consistent manner, allowing for comparisons across different populations.
Identification of Giftedness: IQ tests can be helpful in identifying individuals with exceptional cognitive abilities who may benefit from specialized educational programs.
Cognitive Assessment: IQ tests can provide valuable insights into specific cognitive strengths and weaknesses.
Weaknesses of IQ Tests
Cultural Bias: IQ tests can be culturally biased, favoring individuals from certain backgrounds or those familiar with the test format.
Limited Scope: IQ tests primarily focus on a narrow range of cognitive abilities, neglecting other important aspects of intelligence such as creativity, emotional intelligence, and social intelligence.
Test Anxiety: Performance on IQ tests can be affected by factors like test anxiety or fatigue, potentially leading to inaccurate scores.
The Importance of Context
The debate surrounding IQ tests highlights the importance of considering context when interpreting scores. A high IQ score can be a valuable indicator of cognitive ability, but it shouldn't be the sole measure of intelligence. Life success and overall potential are influenced by a multitude of factors beyond what an IQ test can capture.
Alternative Perspectives on Intelligence
In recent years, there's been a growing emphasis on exploring alternative perspectives on intelligence. Here are a few examples:
Multiple Intelligences: Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences proposes that there are eight distinct intelligences, including logical-mathematical, linguistic, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist.
Emotional Intelligence: Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to understand, use, and manage one's own emotions in positive ways. This form of intelligence is increasingly recognized as playing a vital role in personal and professional success.
Social Intelligence: Social intelligence refers to the ability to understand and navigate social situations effectively. This includes skills like empathy, communication, and relationship building.
By considering these alternative perspectives, we gain a more comprehensive understanding of human intelligence and its various manifestations.
Celebrating Human Potential: Beyond Numbers
Throughout this blog post, we've embarked on a journey to demystify the concept of the "highest IQ level ever recorded." We've explored the complexities of IQ testing, the allure of exceptionally high scores, and the limitations of relying solely on a single number to define intelligence.
Key Points to Remember:
IQ tests are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding intelligence.
Scores can be influenced by various factors, including cultural background, educational opportunities, and test-taking anxiety.
The concept of a single "highest IQ" is shrouded in controversy due to limitations of testing and the multifaceted nature of intelligence.
Exceptional cognitive abilities deserve recognition, but they shouldn't overshadow other important aspects of human potential.
Intelligence: A Multifaceted Concept
Human intelligence is a complex and multifaceted construct. It encompasses a wide range of cognitive abilities, including logical reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, emotional intelligence, and social intelligence. While IQ tests can provide some insights, they don't capture the full spectrum of what makes us intelligent beings.
Celebrating Human Potential
Let's move beyond the quest for the single "highest IQ" and celebrate the vast spectrum of human potential. We all possess unique strengths, talents, and intelligences that contribute to the richness of the human experience.
Let's Talk Intelligence: Share Your Thoughts!

The Vampening
Or: Miri picks up another huge project once again
I have spent my entire life fucking haunted by vampires. This is both figurative in the sense that i grew up through the twilight boom and general vampire boom, and literal in the sense that not only do I have a severe widow's peak, I literally had to have my canines sanded down when I was younger due to them being too sharp. For years i just fucking despised anything to do with them, immediately discounted them as uninteresting and boring, to the point of shunning away things i liked because of vampires. Then about 8 years ago I took back to back shovel hits by vampire shit to the point my gender changed and I've decided to lean into it. And in retrospect, there’s genuinely a lot of interesting stuff about vampires.
The biggest for me being that basically more than any other monster, vampire is an insanely flexible definition! You can twist and add your own views of it as much as you want and as long as there’s a core transactional relationship between a vampire and the other being they interact with, and sharp teeth of some kind you can get away with calling it a vampire. Hell, if you do it well enough you could even sacrifice one of those two and pick up some other vampire traits and people will still gladly call it a vampire. Honestly I could go on for hours about them, and you know what. I will. Like a normal person coming to terms with a fascination with something like this, I decided to handle it in the only reasonable way that I could think of: By obsessively reading as many vampire manga as I was able to get my grubby little hands on.
Here’s where the rubber hits the road, and then pops immediately upon contact with the World's Sharpest Pencil: how do you define something AS being a vampire story? Let alone the ways to describe a vampire, does having a vampire in the story make it about vampires? Is Star Wars But Luke Has Red Eyes and Fangs, my seminal fanfiction, a vampire story? Thankfully, I've spent the past few months figuring out a pivotal system to classify things properly, and it’s also objectively correct with 0 mistakes OR ideas that are up to interpretation!!
The Miriam All-Purpose Vampire Classification System (MAPVACS)
Core Vampirism
Core Vampirism is the most simple you can think of, it’s a story WITH vampires in it, and wants to focus on them and/or their effect on the world. More specifically, I think to really hit as a true vampire story, the primary focus of the story should be on either a direct pair of characters who have a vampire/human or similar relationship, or on the specific existence OF the vampire human relationship. While in folklore vampires are more often predatory or parasitic, the relationship does NOT have to follow that rule! The way part 1 of Jojo’s bizarre adventure has Jonathan and Dio set up as near mythical enemies is as vampiric as Karin’s romantic, mutually beneficial vampire-human relationship is. Something is core vampire when it is about not just a vampire being around, but the way they have torn your family to shreds, taught you about the freedom that comes from the night, the way you have been utterly tormented and reshaped into a monster for their sake, your desperate desire to save them from this fate. The core of vampirism is love, no matter how broken, perfect, fucked up, or bizarre it is.
The Blood Sucking Girl Can't Suck my Blood
Vampires as a Setting
this is a fascinating one! It’s something that I don't see a lot of but when i do see it more often than not it rules. The vampire here exists as part of the world. There more often than not isn't a thing calling attention to vampires or its just something normal as part of the world. The entire world is vampires with a caste system and some other rules, or being a vampire hunter is equivalent to being a dog catcher. There’s no separating the vampirism from the story, but it is not ABOUT the vampires. They’re just chilling.
Vampires in Spirit
this is one that I know, logically exists but is a lot harder to find with my methods. I could joke and just say every shoujo is a vampire manga in spirit but specifically I want to call things more focused on a power dynamic as vampiric in spirit, and even then it’s something severe. Partially DUE to it being twilight fanfiction rewritten as rich guy bdsm, 50 shades could be classified as this and if i have to use it as my sole example, I will, but by god 50 shades sucks.
The Weirdos
this is currently limited to just a specific 4 manga. I doubt itl get higher but these are stories that begin with a core vampire story and the relationship between the two primary mains, but then either change focus or expand into other character relationships as time goes on. The effect of the core vampire story is still prevalent and often brought back up throughout it but the story itself is not entirely focused on it.
What now?
So what happens from here with stuff defined? Well, I've already gotten a head start on reading which definitely helps, but instead of just pumping out one giant retrospective in the year 2026 when i finally finish all of them, I'm just going to make this a project. Every week, typically on the weekend, I'll put out a rough and dirty vampire manga review, classify it, and link it both here and on twitter like I normally do. Don't expect the worlds finest writing, not just because i rarely put anything coherent out and because I'm doing this partially to force myself to put things out there. I want to finish projects, and it's okay if these aren't the best quality. with that, I'm so fucking sorry for everything you're about to read on here.

State of Georgia Criminal Indictment of Donald Trump and Associates
in yet another series of criminal charges arrays itself against the former President of the United States of America. It should be noted that former presidents have no special legal protections or influence, but this kind of treatment is unusual. As unusual as this is, Georgia has good reason to bring these indictments forward.
An indictment exists to allow a Grand Jury to accept a prosecutor's claims that a crime has occurs, and allows the judge to weigh in on the process. It is apart of the legal system that is not afforded air time.
As I write this, Trump must defend himself from roughly 91 different alleged crimes related to his actions. The amount doesn't matter, he still is innocent until proven guilty. His innocence is why he is not incarcerated pending trial, although if he pisses off a judge enough then that very well may happen. He doesn't have to appear in person for these pretrial matters, but has chosen to do so.
Donald trump is being charged with:
Violation of the Georgia RICO act, solicitation of violation of oath of a Public Officer, Conspiracy to commit impersonating a Public Officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first-degree, Conspiracy to commit false statements and writing, Conspiracy to commit filing false documents, another conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, a different conspiracy to commit filing false documents, filing false documents, solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, false statements and writings, another solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, and lastly yet another false statements and writings.
Breaking this list down into a more digestible paragraph, the state of Georgia alleges that defendant Donald Trump conspired as either the conspirator or the actor of a conspiracy to file false things, forged documents, and sought to have an elected officer violate their oath.
Legally a conspiracy involves a conspirator telling various actors to do things. If those things are a crime, then a criminal conspiracy has been founded.
Off the top of my head, Trump has frankly admitted to pressuring the secretary of state to change the certification of the 2020 election, but that surely can't be what this is about. "The phone call was perfect." Surely this can't be about his lawyer, the former mayor Rudy Giuliani going around and filing lawsuits without any plaintiffs? or injured parties? OR ANY PERSON THAT COULD CLAIM ELECTION INTERFERENCE. NO, that can't be it. So what is this about?
let me adopt a more objective voice, because again, Trump and associates are innocent until proven guilty.
The state of Georgia suggests a criminal enterprise of about 30 people, (those that they could identify), committed crimes on behalf of and for Donald Trump. Basically a criminal enterprise exists as a classification for courts to label people, put them into the criminal box so to speak. Think of it like a llc, but for crime... I mean blatantly for crime. it isn't official, but it the loose understanding of the court of how a criminal group is setup, who their members are and who the leaders are.
Basically once this enterprise was established, members of it went around Georgia to various public meetings and entered in false statements. Not the worse crime, but materially false statements are a nuisance to governments everywhere, at best. At worst they influence public policy to actively harm people. The statements sought to make the entire state government change their election outcome.
These charges are about all the threats those officials received, all the pressure they were under, and all the tangible harm they endured to do the basic functions of their election positions. When I sarcastically said this couldn't be about Rudy filing all those election claims incorrectly, I was referencing a troubling period of time in American history where the former president didn't want to cede power. Trump didn't leave because of the kindness of his heart or the rule of law. In my opinion he left because the army was going to evict him when Biden took office. For all of Trump's bluster that the election was stolen or rigged or interfered with, he has produced literally no evidence. Billions have been wasted on his effort to say, Biden couldn't win, I was too popular.
And the most damning thing was, in my opinion, is that he never, ever, let the courts decide. He just repeated the assertion as if that would make it fact.
I think Georgia is going to have a hard time proving these charges because Trump isn't the sort of person to have written orders, although the other co-conspirators are going to say they were ordered by Rudy to do it. and legally that is the same as Trump doing it. Lawyers speak with the power of attorney, meaning that they can handle business and financial matters as their client. They can enter their clients into contracts, and definitely commit crimes on their behalf and the liability can travel through the attorney back to the client.
Trumps big problem with raising a legal defense is that he told Rudy to do all sorts of questionable ethical things in order to get dirt on Joe Biden, or to overturn the election. So much so that the white house legal counsel repeatedly told trump to get rid of Rudy.
and for all I know, the State of Georgia has the kinds of evidence to prove a direct conspiracy to Trump anyway. Again innocent until proven guilty, but man is it an uphill battle for Donald.

Cholangiocarcinoma is a type of liver cancer
There are several key differences between cholangiocarcinoma and other types of liver cancer. While they share some characteristics, they differ in their etiology, risk factors, natural history, and clinical behavior. Ductal cholangiocarcinoma is a cancer that develops in the large bile ducts. Most of the time, it looks like a mass in the liver or biliary tract, and it often stops the biliary system from working.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a broad category of cancer that can develop at any level of the biliary tree. Cholangiocarcinoma is divided into three subtypes: intrahepatic, perihilar, and distal. MRCP was created to assist physicians in more accurately and easily classifying patients with this condition. But the classification isn't perfect, and some of its flaws have made it less useful for clinical diagnosis.
One issue with cholangiocarcinoma is that it is usually detected at a late stage, making successful treatment difficult. Jaundice, persistent fatigue, and abdominal pain are all possible symptoms. If your symptoms worsen or persist, your doctor may refer you to a digestive disease specialist for further evaluation. You'll also receive a free guide to coping with cancer, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
While there are no known causes of cholangiocarcinoma, experts believe chronic bile duct inflammation may play a role. Prolonged inflammation alters DNA, which can alter cell behavior. These changes are not inherited and can occur at any time during a person's life.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare type of liver cancer that affects the bile ducts, which connect the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine. These ducts transport bile, a digestive fluid that aids in the breakdown of fats in food. Cancer of these ducts is typically not detected until it has spread to other parts of the body. However, if caught early enough, it can be treated surgically.
Cholangiocarcinomas are extremely uncommon, accounting for only 10–20% of all liver cancers. This disease can cause jaundice, itching, and abdominal pain. Light-colored stools and weight loss may also occur in some people. Even though this kind of cancer is rare, it is very important to see a doctor if you have any of these signs.
ERCP is an endoscopic procedure that examines the bile ducts and pancreas with a flexible endoscope. The doctor can examine and biopsy suspicious areas with this procedure. To collect a sample, a tiny needle is inserted into the bile duct. The images obtained during the procedure can aid in determining whether the bile ducts are blocked or narrowed. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
The ERCP test involves inserting a thin hollow needle into the bile duct through the skin of the abdomen. A contrast dye may be present in the needle, which can be used to detect cancer cells. It is also capable of collecting tissue samples. A microscope can be used to look for signs of cancer in the samples.
Cholangiocarcinoma can be treated in a variety of ways. Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy are examples. Although surgery can remove cancer, radiation therapy may be the primary treatment for recurring or incurable tumors. The treatment's foundation is a combination of cisplatin and gemcitabine. Even though this is the only treatment plan that has shown a significant increase in survival, other options are being looked into, such as targeted therapy.
Various diagnostic tests are used to determine the stage and type of cancer. Blood tests may be used to determine whether the cancer is in the liver or bile duct. They can also measure the levels of proteins linked to cancer. Cancer antigen 19-9, carcinoembryonic antigen, and IgG4 protein are among the tests available. In some cases, the doctor may also perform a biopsy, which is a small sample of tissue removed from the tumor for examination under a microscope.
While the long-term prognosis for cholangiocarcinoma is generally positive, certain factors may influence the outcome. The presence of CA19-9, a glycolipid tumor-associated antigen, in the tumor is an important factor. Several studies have found that this antigen is related to the long-term prognosis of cholangiocarcinoma patients. For example, Coelho et al., for example, studied the clinical outcomes of 89 patients with cholangiocarcinoma and discovered that CA19-9 was an independent predictor of a poorer outcome. Tella et al. looked at the medical records of 2100 people with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and found that 1474 of them died because of their disease.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare and malignant biliary tumor. It is formed by bile duct epithelial cells. Cholangiocarcinoma accounts for only 3% of all digestive system cancers. Cholangiocarcinomas are classified based on their anatomical location, and treatment varies depending on the type. A patient with distal cholangiocarcinoma, for example, may have a peritoneal resection.

What if...
... the Kaminii made a huge "mistake", there's a collateral system breakdown or whatever & female clones are produced/born? I've read that this is impossible at all, because the techniques would not allow the transformation into female cells. BUT I think the thought is quite interesting.
At first I thought about the appearance of the F-Clones. I've read a lot of fanfic stuff, and mostly the clone women just don't look like a female version of Jango Fett. But the transformation into a female cell would be include that all the genetic stuff (& appearance as well) is the same. Just the gender is swapped.
So, in my opinion, the F-clones would look similar to their brothers:
Tall and athletic, with well muscels
Natural dark hair, eyebrows etc.
Also brown-golden amber eyes
a skintone like melting chocolate-caramel
I just can't imagine small female clones pale skin, blue eyes and golden hair, you know what I mean?
Then I thought about how the Kaminii would treat the F-Clones. I guess it tends to quite bad, because the F-Clones are a symbol of fail for the Kaminii (& Kaminii are just very very VERY perfectionistic)
It would'nt allowed at all for the F-Clones to behave girlish, they're supposed to wear short cutted hair, any kind of jewelry is forbidden. Also I think the Kaminii would instrument several operations to make the F-Clone body perfect for war. And maybe they also execute sterilizations. So the F-Clones are never ever able to get pregnant or give birth to babys (Because they where born to fight in the republic army, and not to have the privilege of becoming children). In fact that's just really sad and cruel, but I could imagine the Kaminii would not shy away of these methods.
Anyway, another thought is the solidarity between the boys and girls. I could imagine that some of the masculine clones are kind of protective over their sisters. Others would establish a deep friendship. And it's clear that a romantic relationship is out of question, because they are siblings, ok?
So another point is that the number of F-Clones ist quite rare. The Kaminii would try to avoid the developement of the female fetuses (in secret), because the girls are (for the Kaminii) a evidence of their failure.
And because of this, the F-Clones are divide into special units, set-in for more special orders as a (special) force of the Republic.
And now, I've created in my mind five possible F-Clones. And to show them up, I just did some moodboards. Here we go:
Sol (from Sol'yc, which is mando'a and means 'first' or 'one')
Tumblr media
So she is the first one 'produced' or 'born' and just by accident. Otherwise she would be killed in a low state of developement. She always had the theory that the Kaminoans just killed female fetuses before. Because of this, she just hates the fish-faces and did her best to rescue other sisters, like convincing Shaak-Ti to allow the birth of female clones.
In general she is a very over protective person, well trained and intelligent, with strong mind and perspectives. She just don't care about the authority of most of the Jedi-Generals. An exception is for example the Togruta General Master Ti.
Then we have:
Ruu
Tumblr media
She is educated in medic stuff and quite underrated at all. She just looks like a cinnamon role, but could actually kill you. As well she is also the one that cares the most about the rights and responsibilities of every living beeing. So, she just don't shut up in critical moments and is always the one reminding the others of moral aspects & so on. she is something like an adviser for Sol and is always helping with hard decisions. Also she don't like any type of classification and believes that a well character build isn't necessary connected with special kind of species.
Trini
Tumblr media
Trini is one of the youngest but the third one in the squad, the one that looks just like the sweet cinnamon roll. She is well educated in sniping. In general she behaves very naive or shy, and almost eveyone just want's to protect the little one. Then she just has a phobia against every kind of hospital, medicines, operations and so on. Some would call her weak, but she isn't. She just tries to be strong as hell, but the troubles with the Kaminoans makes it hard.
Kiddo
Tumblr media
She is the youngest, that's why Sol always calls her Kiddo. In young age she was, despite her ability, outsorted to the Clean-Up Unit. But Sol has read about her passion of flighting, and makes it possible for Kiddo to absolve the pilot test. She made it. She is the one that don't care about everything, except her sisters and brothers. Authority is a foreign word for her. At the same time she just makes jokes about everyone and everything.
Chaav (from the mando'a word Chaavla, which means 'rough')
Tumblr media
She was also outsorted to 99, 'cause she just behaves really pugnacious. The Kaminoans classify her aggressive and disturbed. But she actuallys has some kind of codex, which means that she's is treating everyone as he or she or it deserves it. She has always sense of defending the honor of her friends. Not all persons understand or favor her. On some days she just looks like the sweet cinnamon roll, on other days she's eating the whole cinnamon roll in one bit.
------------------------
So this was quite long. I'm sorry for my 'schoo english', really. Hope you liked the idea. I'm interested in your thoughts and opinions.
(I do not own any of the pictures. I just use them to present my idea)

“WatchMojo” Prime 10 Film Genres That Died Out (TELEVISION Episode 2018)
The past few years have been something of a golden age for music documentaries, with the Oscar-profitable success of Trying to find Sugar Man and 20 Ft From Stardom opening up the field for films about much less obvious stars. Naughty tech-home is a sense. It is what screws your face up in mock disgust when a dangerous bassline belts out the system. It's what makes you get one other round of doubles in when it is best to have been ordering an Uber. It is what reminds you the way life-affirming this whole whirlwind of a culture may be. It is the lubricant of the sesh and, undeniably, the best dance music sub-genre of all time. However it was Sheeran whose music dominated radio, digital and streaming in 2017. Divide" notched up 2.7 million models, including sales and streaming exercise, and the 26 year-outdated singer-songwriter's single Shape of You" spent 33 weeks on Billboard's Sizzling one hundred chart and was streamed one billion times. The perfect document to come out of punk, or punk's dying knell? On this double album, The Conflict fused their rockabilly roots with their love of reggae, moving away from the choppy snarls of the scene that birthed them. This was the album that legitimised punk - hitherto a stroppy fad - into the rock canon. Its iconic cover, and songs concerning the Spanish Civil Battle introduced left-wing politics firmly into musical fashion. Following are curated descriptions of among the most typical genres and sub-genres you'll hear. There are APPROACH too many to checklist and it's rising all the time, so do not enable this to restrict you to all the opposite possibilities. Plus, most artists don't want to simply fit in a single genre, however figuring out their stylistic distinctions can further appreciation for his or her techniques. Perhaps we'll see. iHeart went chapter 11 last March. Relying on how the collectors handle issues, it might get damaged up and the stations sold or they could have a buying who'll take the whole mess. Hopefully, both approach, the new owners may see local curation as one among radio's strengths, and if I'm proper about how sure subgenres of rock music go mainstream then we would get another wave. In case you refuse to call Think about Dragons rock music though, you won't acknowledge it when it does.
Music was once straightforward. Some folks liked rock. Some folks appreciated pop. Some people liked jazz, blues or classical. And, mainly, that was type of it. Nevertheless, musicians are a stressed bunch and you may only play Smoke on the Water, At all times Crashing within the Identical Car or Roast Fish and Cornbread so many instances before somebody is certain to say: Dangle on a minute, www.audio-transcoder.com what would happen if we played all of them on the similar time?" And so it is that new genres are born. Now think about that occuring for not less than half a century or so - all over the world - and also you attain a point at which, in accordance with the engineer and information alchemist" Glenn McDonald, there are actually 1,264 genres of in style music; all you could do is go directly to his startlingly clever website and look - effectively, pay attention - for your self. Progressive home is usually what individuals think of when they think about EDM music. It's very talked-about music in nightclubs and is understood for it is upbeat, blissful sound. Progressive home is finest identifiable by it's verses, that are heavily featured in most songs within the genre. ALSO - to you individuals who dwell to right individuals on the internet: I'm making use of all of these genres to trendy-day producers. I will nonetheless briefly carry up the original masters, however I'm tryna keep it just a little contemporary. Additionally, nobody individual's view is absolutely the right one. Hold that in thoughts. So I'm not negating your article but saying the issue isn't that rock is for white boys and pop is for girls - that is something the business has decided. You most likely know that a lot of the pop music as we speak is written by a small group of 5 or so middle-aged Scandinavian men - another formula. The people need good music and much of what is written for pop is formulaic and after awhile monotonous- all the time the identical. Not particularly effectively-identified outdoors of its personal neighborhood, Black MIDI is a musical style wherein MIDI files are remixed and stuffed with 1000's, hundreds of thousands, and even billions of notes. The black designation has to do with the truth that when so many notes are located close to each other on a traditional two-stave piano score, they create a kind of black mess of characters. Solo: This can be used anytime, preferably after a spherical or two of chorus and verse, so as to add a bit jam feel. Used rather a lot in jazz and can actually create cool sections in music. If you end up pondering of reside efficiency Solo elements are at all times unbelievable, even if it is not in your released monitor. we fell in love with this music, and it's not something you usually develop out of, so long as the music evolves with you. and so long as there is a demand, there can be like minded individuals supplying. These yak songs are just considered one of countless endangered music traditions world wide, vanishing as fashionable life intrudes and the final practitioners die without passing them on. Frightened about the loss, ethnomusicologists have begun attempting to doc, preserve, and even breathe new life into these disappearing traditions—much as linguists over the last twenty years have launched a concerted effort to help endangered languages within the face of predictions that three,000 are prone to vanish by the top of the century. On this letter, we present completely different approaches for music genre classification. The proposed techniques, which are composed of a characteristic extraction stage followed by a classification procedure, discover each the variations of parameters used as input and the classifier architecture. Tests have been carried out with three kinds of music, particularly blues, classical, and lounge, that are considered informally by some musicians as being huge dividers" among music genres, showing the efficacy of the proposed algorithms and establishing a relationship between the relevance of every set of parameters for every music model and every classifier. In contrast to different works, entropies and fractal dimensions are the options adopted for the classifications. This record isn't comprehensive, but merely goes over a few of the more well-liked sub-genres of EDM. Some artists do not fit very effectively inside any of the genres and simply create a brand new sub-genre. For instance DVBBS refers to their fashion as Woozy". Other artists classify themselves in multiple genres. West, Martin Litchfield (Could 1994). "The Babylonian Musical Notation and the Hurrian Melodic Texts". Music and Letters. seventy five. pp. 161-179. Simply when you assume rock is dead a New genres of rock music appears. Is Electro Dance Metallic or Tin-Foil Dance Music? Nope! This style fuses elements of steel, Rock, and EDM.

Epistemological Solipsism
Tumblr media
So much of the externalization conditioning, and any kind of conditioning really, is set in place by erroneous assumptions. We overlook this, as, early on in existence, in the more immature stages of our egoic development, without consciously knowing it, we establish dubious premises that quickly solidify into foundational beliefs that shape our entire view of reality. And if these types of shoe'd in assumptions manage to put down roots on firm grounds, which they almost always do, they will be almost impossible to undo. And so imagine the type of quandary this presents when the kinds of assumptions that one has accepted, hence becoming the potential bedrock of a belief system without any pensive review, are actually false or faulty! This is the beginning of mental slavery, as any false assumption about existence will necessarily have you assigning power to something you are imagining to be outside of yourself... or perhaps to something you are APART of, or are a byproduct of... as the case may be... but in each and every case, it is voluntary self disempowerment... and whether it was willful, innocuous, unconscious, or deceptively introduced, matters not. What matters now is that you are anchored to a false position, that becomes the trap to which you remain tethered, which will thereby direct assignments of power to illusions, based on the default designs of this organizational arrangement.
This is important to understand, as so much of mental illness, or spiritual sickness if you will, relies on sustaining ignorance of the truth. But it's totally up to you if you want to break free from the false programming. And this doesn't mean a conversion to an alternative programming. This means a liberation from all programmings, and standing in the light of the truth, which needs no support, needs no selling points, needs no shuck n' jive, nor song and dance. The truth always speaks for itself, while the lie requires contrived narrative. And this is exactly why false existential assumptions are deceptively introduced into your qualitative being; because despite what most of us would like to believe, there's no way to really force delusion on anyone. Yeah, maybe you think you could try to torture someone into accepting it, but any such acceptance wouldn't be authentic, as anyone would pretend to accept anything just to stop the torture. One does not hold what is not held in the heart. Or maybe you think you could force it into a mind through coercive re-education or brainwashing, but a truly strong mind can never be forced into delusion. If the mind relents, it's due to it's own immature strength and the natural tendency to compromise as an easy way out.
And sometimes we hear about other such things, like harsh physical circumstances having the ability to break a spirit, but I think stoicism has pretty much demonstrated this to be a fallacy. Oh, am I saying this only because I haven't suffered to the proper degree? Or, did you just give up and are now cynically guising that failure beneath a sneering justification? No. The only way a conditioning can successfully infect a consciousness is by invitation, compromise or unchecked deceptive infiltration, all of which gain access through avenues of permission. The fact that that they are granted entry with permission is exactly why the programming is so grueling to unseat. A belief forced on someone will not long be held. A belief willingly embraced by someone, unconsciously or not, will be defended to often extreme limits. And it's not too hard to figure out why, as the conditioning has become a best friend. The conditioning provides security and comfort to a contrived identity that seeks normalcy, familiarity, predictability and routine; all of which combine to form a malaise of deprivation, lethargy, and boredom. A sitting duck, aptly primed to be stalked by death itself.
So this is why there is so much circumvention of solipsism, a so called philosophy that's implications could be called to be in accord with the truth; because if you ever figure your way out of the externalization conditioning, you will inevitably attain power of mind, and then less power will be assigned to the illusions, and if that happens, you will become difficult to control. Hence why "they" must do every thing they can to stop you.
So this brings us upon the subject of epistemological solipsism. What is epistemological solipsism? Epistemological solipsism is the variety of idealism according to which only the directly accessible mental contents of the solipsistic philosopher can be known. The existence of an external world is regarded as an unresolvable question rather than actually false.
And so, this is why I don't consider epistemological solipsism to be all that useful of an application. It's kinda like solipsism lite; with light being spelled "L I T E", clarified as such so as to invoke the correct tone of connotation. Of course, as usual, we note that epistemological solipsism is touted as a variety of idealism, which frames the entire consideration as unrealistic, ie: existing only in the imagination; desirable or perfect, but not likely to become a reality; which thereby downgrades the significance of the truth that only directly accessible mental contents of a solipsistic philosopher can be known. As if there was some other way for knowns to be accessed by a philosopher. Whether knowledge is acquired directly, indirectly, empirically, or dogmatically, matters not, as any possible synthesis or transference of knowledge is only going to be through a mental medium.
But then comes the funny part: The existence of an external world is regarded as an unresolvable question rather than actually false. Hmmmm. Might this position be more aptly called agnostic solipsism? I guess this position is one more interested in upholding the integrity of intellectual honesty rather then standing in the light of the existential truth. It's an interesting position to be sure, as it teeters on the fence of the truth, afraid to fully commit because it knows it can't prove the truth by the rules that the externalization conditioning demands, and yet, oddly, still seeks to placate and pander to it somewhat, by upholding it's standards. It's obvious from this, that the epistemological solipsist has a lot more work to be done nihilistically, and might prove to benefit from some psycho-nautical exploration, or deep meditation.
And so, by this epistemological standard, which is actually less solipsistic due to it's externalization mindset of an extrinsically existing universe who's qualities can only be known through a set of separated sense organs, epistemological solipsists claim that realism requires the question:
“Assuming that there is a universe independent of an agent's mind and knowable only through the agent's senses, how is the existence of this independent universe to be scientifically studied?"
Well, that's the thing. Sure it's a required question for realism, but it's also an equally required question for the epistemological solipsist, who probably never thought to answer it himself. What is the alternative to knowledge based on the interpretations of the five senses? As a solipsist, the answer should be clear, but let us not forget that what we are dealing with is, not so much a solipsist, but rather, an externalist who's merely conceded that anything known about the universe is confined to sensory data. Despite admitting the purely mental nature of existence, they are not yet ready to go as far as admitting the universe is completely imaginary and that reality is a production of the mind. And so, here we find it: the epistemological solipsist's willingness to take on the false existential assumption, while afraid to commit to implications of the truth of his own position, in order to satisfy the dictates of physical science, which is completely constructed upon the externalization conditioning. It seems the only thing epistemological solipsism wants to clarify is that objectivity requires an assumption; and as long as this point is understood, it's completely willing to concedes to the outlines of the physical model of existence. But why? If it's false then why take on such a assumption at all? Yeah, I know people don't wanna let go of their ideological attachments. People don't want to let go of old physical science, in the same way they don't want to let go of religion.
“Oh Sage, they are not the same thing!”
Yeah Charlie. That isn't the point, and not what I was saying anyway. Science may have a bit more credibility then religion, as it does seek to build knowledge on observable phenomena, but it still falls short, as it is founded on a false premise about reality that simply isn't true. The false premise that calls itself, "realism". Isn't that some shit? Realism and idealism are both supposedly philosophical concepts equally up for debate, yet mind independent reality gets the title of realism, why mind dependent reality gets the title of idealism. Hmmmm. Doesn't it seem that someone wants to slant the favor towards realism? Doesn't it seem that by these types of classifications, one position is being assigned a handicap while the other is assigned a disadvantage? One should wonder why this is.
So it seems that epistemological solipsism doesn't want to posit anything about what so obviously exists firsthand, and instead only wants to concern itself with the claims of knowledge within the illusion. Like a persona in a dream who doesn't want to concern itself with lucidity, but instead wants to make sure that it's clarified with the other personas that any knowledge in the reality is only applicable to the context of the sense perceptions of a subject. That's nice, and while it does stick one toe into the waters of solipsism, it doesn't hardly go deep enough into the truth. And that's because, in the grand scheme, knowledge is irrelevant to the nature of reality, and to uncover and become intimate with the nature of reality, doesn't involve learning, study or the acquisition of knowledge, which I know for many of you, presents an impasse that cannot be breached. Hence, the reason for the advent of epistemological solipsism: for those willing to explore only so far as it relates to what can be argued in conjunction to claimed knowledge and the mind of a subject.
So the utility of epistemological solipsism seems to support the maintenance of a general non-committal skepticism that asserts that truth is only that which can be be known directly through the five senses. Other then shattering the usually unchallenged authoritative assumptions of contemporary philosophical realism, what epistemological solipsism achieves is questionable. It isn't conducive towards lucidity, so what function does it serve within delusion? Perhaps merely to make for a more interesting offering of skeptical doubt to an argument made in philosophical discourse? Perhaps.
For, isn't that always the MO of a skeptic? Not so much to present an argument, but rather to just throw wrenches in existing arguments, and perhaps ridicule them for the sake of entertainment? But I dig the rigors that this places on the externalist. It certainly narrows the borders of what a realist can argue as knowledge. Which brings us many intriguing novelty considerations, such as when the epistemological solipsist asserts a classic argument typical for the position, such as: if a person sets up a camera to photograph the moon when he is not looking at it, then at best he can determine that there is an image of the moon in the camera when he eventually looks at it. Logically, this does not assure that the moon itself (or even the camera) existed at the time the photograph is supposed to have been taken. To establish that it is an image of an independent moon requires many other assumptions that amount to begging the question, which means to assume the conclusion of an argument—a type of circular reasoning, which is an informal fallacy, in which an arguer includes the conclusion to be proven within a premise of the argument, often in an indirect way such that its presence within the premise is hidden or at least not easily apparent.
This really puts the realist in a tight spot, as it also puts the burden of proof on the realist to show how aspects of reality are ontologically independent of our conceptual schemes, perceptions, linguistic practices, and beliefs, of which, might not even be possible to demonstrate. Yet, when all is said and done, epistemological solipsism doesn't really go as far as it should, and suspends any assertions that awareness is the primary foundation. So, as it stands, it is merely a position that imposes a standard upon what can be accepted as truth within knowledge.
As for answering the question of, if a philosopher can only truly know the aspects of his own mind, then how should a philosopher go about studying the universe, it loses it way, for it would rather assume objectivity in the name of science with a stricter standard rather then follow the implications of the position and discover the accurate premise; which reveals that there really is no universe "out there" to assume exists objectively in the first place. Lucidity, or awareness of the dream, is revealed through focusing on the source of attention, not through the examination of dream details.

The next time you happen to catch a Minnesota Vikings game, take a look at Adrian Peterson, the team’s 6’1, 217-pound running back. Now ask yourself: what kind of physical characteristics would you attribute to him? Athletic? Lean? Fit? All of these certainly sound like valid answers to us — but his clinical classification might surprise you.
By any normal standards, Peterson is one of the fittest men on the planet. But by our country’s system of measuring body fat, he’s overweight. If you’re like most people, you’ve probably heard of the ‘body mass index,’ or, as it’s more informally known, BMI. It’s a popular formula used to not only gauge if a person is overweight or obese, but also how great their risk is for future health problems.
BMI is a relatively straightforward equation that measures a person’s body fat by comparing their weight to their height:
(Weight in pounds) / (Height in inches) (Height in inches) x 703
There are four different categories a person can fall into, ranging from underweight to obese. They are:
*18.4 or lower: Underweight. *18.5 to 24.9: Normal weight. *25 to 29.9: Overweight. *30 or higher: Obese.
According to the National Institutes of Health, being overweight or obese by this measure can put you at risk for heart disease, type II diabetes, and even some cancers.
But BMI doesn’t work well for individual people. One of the formula’s obvious flaws, explains Alan Aragon, the Men’s Health Weight Loss Coach and a nutritionist in California, is that it has no way of discriminating between fat and muscle — which is the case with Peterson.
Part of the problem is that BMI was never designed as a tool for judging any individual person’s weight — either by physicians or the general public, says Timothy Church, a professor of health at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. In fact, the formula was originally intended to measure the collective weight of an entire population, but because of its straightforward math and distinctive categories (i.e., if you score a 25 on the BMI scale, you’re overweight), it soon also took off.
Here’s how BMI was born: In the early part of the 20th century, medical studies began to show a link between excess weight and an early death. So doctors and insurance companies started to seek out an easy method to determine a person’s body-fat percentage. Insurance companies were especially concerned with this task, and devoted portions of their budget to discovering an obesity-determining calculation.
It wasn’t, however, until physiology researcher Ancel Keys published a study in 1972 called “Indices of Relative Weight and Obesity,” that the modern version of BMI came about. Keys conducted a series of studies on male populations in order to test if any pre-existing mathematical equations could measure a group’s relative amount of body-fat. Fortunately for him, one did. The “Quetelet Index,” (a.k.a., weight divided by height, squared) which was developed by Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet in the mid-1800s, proved to be successful.
To Keys’ credit, he never intended for physicians or insurance companies to use this equation — but BMI was just too perfect. Because it was simply a math equation, it was quicker, easier, and cheaper to use than more direct and accurate measures — like the underwater weighing test, which measures how much you weigh by how much water you displace, and the skin fold measurements, which calculates how much fat you have beneath your skin.
“BMI was really pushed by [companies like] Metropolitan Life,” Church said. “It was meant to give them an excuse to charge [their clients] more.”
The formula received its official stamp of approval in 1985, when the NIH cited it as the index of obesity, Ever since then, BMI has gradually become more and more accepted — now it’s the standard, go-to formula for determining what makes a healthy weight, even among regular people, says Frank Hu, Ph.D., professor of health and nutrition at the Harvard School for Public Health.
Another issue is gender. The Quetelet Index — and corresponding Keys study — were both created from research on male populations. An entirely different formula was originally used for determining obesity in female populations, and yet, doctors use the same equation for both genders, says Church. In the beginning, the NIH differentiated between men and women by establishing different “thresholds” for one’s BMI, to account for the variance between men and women in the equation. But even that difference dissolved in 1998. When pressed for the reasons why, an NIH spokesperson declined to comment.
So why has no one tried to change the system? One reason is that imprecise numbers from BMI aren’t dangerous, says Hu. And besides, doctors are able to determine risk factors using other measurements.
Still, the alternatives to BMI aren’t perfect either. The most common of which is the waist circumference test, which measures abdominal obesity (a.k.a., the fat around your stomach). It’s slightly better than BMI at measuring someone’s risk for illnesses like heart disease and diabetes, say our experts, because it measures fat specifically, instead of taking into account the weight of a person’s muscle mass.
The truth is, people know if they’re overweight — so be your own judge. Look in the mirror, monitor your jean size, and talk to your doctor. But don’t rely on a flawed formula to determine your health status.
