psd tutorial!!
okay guys so finally it’s here- today i’ll be showing you how to make any kind of soft psd! i will include an in depth tutorial with tips.
Part one: creating the psd.
step 1: find the image you’ll be using. now for me, i create psds based on the tone of the image. because i find that if you make a (in example) purple toned psd and try to add it to a warm toned almost orange-ish photo, it won’t look the best.  step 2 (optional): find an inspiration! lately i’ve been really really inspired by velvestuff unnie!!! i really enjoy how visually pleasing and aesthetic her soft icons are. they’re literally perfection and i dont think it’s possible for anyone to try and replicate her edits. but it’s ok to be inspired! set goals. otherwise, you won’t really have a base to your edits.  to create a purple/pink/brown psd in photoshop, it can be essential and effective yet optional to use the follower:
brightness & contrast ( main ): these two are mainly important for either brightening or darkening your psd. it’ll serve as a key factor.
vibrance: sometimes you’ll find your psd to be TOO vibrant and orangey. you’ll use this to tone down the image.
color balance ( main ): color balance is a huge factor in my opinion. it’s what will allow your photo to be either purple/pink toned or orange/brown tone. you’ll be seeing me using this a lot in my psds.
black & white ( main, if too contrasted ): to me, black & white substitutes as a contrast, but the good thing about this tool is that it’ll either tone down the red hues or make it darker, as well as the yellow hues.
photo filter ( main ): this’ll substitute the vibrance. you’ll see why it’s important by the end of this tutorial.
channel mixer: this will serve as a color balance option. it’s helpful for boosting red, yellow, and blue hues.
color lookup (sometimes optional): this tool will help get a color tone to your photos. let’s say i want something more pink; then i’ll use a pink color lookup and set the opacity low.
gradient map & solid colors ( main ): also important. serves as a color balance substitute and could tone down the vibrance or could raise the brightness. i always recommend using these in ‘color’.
i’ll be using this photo to start off:
Tumblr media
step one: i’ll start off using the brightness tool. here i’ll lower the brightness down to -9 & the contrast to -23.
step two: then, i’ll proceed to add a solid color (aka color fill) of this shade. after doing so, i’ll change the setting to “color” and lower the fill to 37.
Tumblr media
step three: then, i’ll proceed to use the color filter with these settings.
Tumblr media
and so far we already have this layer lineup, and these are the results so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s up to you if you’d like to add more filters to your photos, but this is the base for a purple/brown psd that looks good on dark/semi bright photos and lq photos. i’ll continue on to add to this look to make it more purple and brown so follow along! step four: i’ve added a color balance layer and changed out the photo to test my psd to see how drastically it’d change: but it didn’t. but then again, since psd edits appear different on phone screens, i started to mess with the color balance to get a more purple look, so that the purple doesn’t get cancelled out on phone screens and still remains pretty. so i used the following settings:
Tumblr media
i applied this color balance layer UNDERNEATH the solid color and photo filter layer, because if you add this on the top of everything, the blue will be overpowering. if you do not want a heavy blue filter on your edit, always apply a solid color, gradient, or color balance layer underneath a solid color that’ll lower the vibrance of your edit. and with this setting:
Tumblr media
my outcome was:
Tumblr media
and if you haven’t noticed, i did apply my softer action which you can find over here!
soo, now that you have the basis of your pink/brown/blue psd, you can continue to mess around with the same steps as before!
part two: tips
— stay away from hues. if you do decide to use hues, set the opacity to no more than 5%. this is because an overused hue can cancel out colors that’ll make your psd look decent. if you want to use a high opacity hue layer, at least use it on an image that you set your hue color to. (if i use a pink hue, i’ll use it on a pink photo) but make sure it’s not colorful, so it’ll look better on a pink and white photo [[like a cafe photo or ulzzang photo]]. because what the hue will do to a pink photo with brown in it is give the brown an unpleasant purple pink tone and i’ll just look not good. so overall: avoid hues. try to use the “color” option instead if you would like a color to pop more. — if you’re creating a soft psd, use a soft action! i’ve created one on my blog. an action is basically a group of <<literally>> actions created in photoshop. so lets say i want to take this sharpen and blur then noise i added onto my image, and apply it to another one; it cuts the work of redoing it over and over. so you just record what you want to be done to another photo and boom, you have an action! — keep in mind, you will always have to adjust a psd. even if you made a psd that looks amazing on a couple of photos with the same tones, one will always be maybe too orange or maybe too blue, and with that you’ll have to balance it out. if your edit comes out with a overruling color, use color balance to tone it down the opposite way. for example, if your photo comes out really pink and you aren’t satisfied, use color balance on the blues or yellows to make it more neutral. these would most likely be the things you’ll encounter when changing a psd. other than that, you should be satisfied with your creation! — contrast will either be your blessing or your curse. sometimes, it’s easy to get carried away with lowering you contrast, this is because it does! do not be hesitant to lower your contrast down. but just no to the point where it greys out your photo and looks dullish. also, do not be afraid to use the default black & white gradient. set it to ‘soft light’ and lower the opacity and voila, you get a decent and balanced looking psd that’s not too consumed by low contrast. — as you know, sometimes your icons after you post them will look somewhat different once you view them from your phone. technically, you cannot fix it. this is because you phone and computer have different screen viewings and color schemes (this is the easiest way i can explain it after researching about it for so long) it’ll typically desaturate your photo and make it look dull sometimes. what you can do is take time and observe well... it looks really desaturated on my phone screen? i’ll turn the saturation up just a bit.  just use that mindset and you’ll be set! just remember, the less vibrant a psd is through photoshop, it’ll look even more less vibrant through your phone screen and on tumblr. — don’t be afraid of lowering vibrance though! well, instead of lowering the vibrance, i just use the photo filter and set it to #333230 or #393633. these will act as a low vibrance but it’ll also add almost a greyish purple tint, which’ll come out pretty. — sometimes, it’ll be best to lower the opacity of a psd but most of the times, you shouldn’t have to. because a psd should never have too much overruling colors. so, lowering the opacity to most layers will help out SO MUCH. you don’t want a photo that’ll be colorful. you want it to look balanced and neat. — most of the time, you’ll have to be careful when selecting photos. because not only will it be for the sake of aesthetic and neatness; it’s simply also because not all psds will look good on every photo out there. most psds will look good on certain photos, and when you find a perfect photo to match the psd, just use the same color scheme or theme with your other photos. so yeah, thats all everyone!! feel free to leave any concerns or message me if i missed something and i’ll add it onto this post! happy editing, and i truly hope i addressed everything and helped you guys with insight.

Warnings: Fiery speeches, angst

“I asked for information, ninja, not your opinion.” Mitsuhide said, drumming his fingers irritably on the butt of his matchlock, staring testily at Sasuke across the sputtering fire he had built in a slightly less burned out corner of the temple.
“And I asked you to give me back my glasses, but here we are.” Sasuke replied wryly, the indignation in his usually impassive expression wasted on the tattered curtain that was receiving it. “I am absolutely never providing EMT services for any warlord going forward. You make lord Kenshin look incredibly polite.” He muttered to himself.
“I don’t suppose I make anything look like much of anything to you at the moment.” Mitshude retorted acerbically. He had lost consciousness, and still felt damnably weak and unsteady despite his racing mind.
“Taking a man’s glasses, that’s unconscionable. I don’t know what I expected from the Akechi Mitsuhide, but still, that’s a dirty trick.”
“Oh, so my reputation precedes me, even into the future.”
Mitsuhide banked the fire, waving away the smoke that flared up from the damp wood as it drifted into his face.
“It’s not like I’d leave the man my bff– for reasons known only to herself and whichever star guides people toward terrible choices– loves.”
“Your what now?” Mitsuhide asked, sharply, eyes narrowed at Sasuke as he considered the revelation of frequent ceiling and floor assisted visits.
“Best friend forever.” Sasuke said reaching up to the blank space where his glasses normally sat as if to push them up the bridge of his nose disapprovingly. “And you have no cause for jealousy, she’s like a sister to me.”
“Yes, I suppose if you’d had designs you could’ve just gone back to your own time together.” Mitsuhide replied. “You said that the fissure would open again, so tell me where and when and I’ll just fetch her myself.”
“I also just told you that that course of action is extremely ill advised, if it’s even possible at all. The potential distortion of space-time–” Sasuke replied, cutting himself off with a sigh.
“Alright, so that’s the least feasible option. We’ll just put that aside for now. What other course of action can we take?”
“I’m afraid I’m otherwise employed and must inform you that I have an extremely binding contractual obligation which regretfully prevents me from joining you in any ill-advised ventures likely to result in dismemberment, severe emotional trauma, beheading or otherwise unspecified bodily harm.” Sasuke countered flatly, reaching for his phantom glasses again and dropping his hand with a noise of displeasure.
“Were you under the impression that you had a choice? I’m afraid not. Keeping you hostage is an absolute necessity.”
“I could take you in a fight right now.” Sasuke said to a patch of white ash on a scorched pillar.
“Oh I have no doubt, but you won’t. I might die, and you’re just ever so slightly more devoted to your bff than Kenshin.” Mitsuhide replied knowingly.
“Dear god, it’s like someone desaturated Shingen and surgically removed his conscience.” Sasuke whispered in horrified awe.
“And If you’re thinking ‘surely lord Kenshin will come for me!’ you should know that I know he doesn’t know you came here, and that I can keep you hidden for years.” Mitsuhide added.
“You really just added a new and disturbing dimension to my relationship with Kenshin right off the cuff there, didn’t you?”
“Spare me the inane chatter, give me options. How do we get her to the wormhole at the right time?” He asked with a gesture that was wasted on Sasuke.
“Leaving aside that we’re well beyond my known timeline, there’s no fail-safe way to ensure that any message you send will survive.”
“If I could just get her back to Tanba…” Mitsuhide said, stroking his chin thoughtfully, thinking of the myriad hiding places he had built into the castle and the ways he could draw her attention to them without alerting five centuries worth of residents.
“You should know that Tanba was a ruin in our time, and my calculations suggest that an incredibly dramatic causal variance would be required to change that outcome.”
They sat in contemplative silence for awhile, until Mitsuhide dropped his fist into the palm of his other hand triumphantly. “I’ve been thinking about this all wrong. It’s the people!” He said enthusiastically.
“Are you feeling dizzy again, by any chance?” Sasuke asked with a note of alarm.
“I feel like I’ve been trampled by several horses, but that’s not important.” He answered dismissively, his mind on fire with plans.
He had been nearly paralyzed with leaden misery at his own helplessness, feeling only the overwhelming distance between them and the implacable rule of time around him like water closing over his head.
Even if she didn’t return to him, even if they never met again, he had to make certain that she knew that she had been loved, would be loved, always. He only needed a problem to solve to find his feet.
“We have two issues– how to physically secure a message, and how to draw her attention to the correct place.”
“In extremely simplified terms, yes.”
“She won’t be too keen to look me up, if I know her. She’ll be trying to carry on and let go of me, which precludes some kind of monument. But the people– they can protect Tanba and convey my message all at the same time.”
“I don’t follow…” Sasuke replied curiously.
“Of course you don’t, but all you need to do is follow along.”
He had driven himself to the brink of collapse the rest of that winter, exhausting every moment that he could conceivably be away from Azuchi without rousing more then the usual levels of suspicion. He returned on a soft spring day just in the nick of time for a war council.
Hideyoshi strode toward him with a mixture of anger and concern, grabbing his collar to growl “where the the hell have you been?”
“Starving himself half to death, by the look of it.” Ieyasu interjected dourly.
“Are we sure he hasn’t got the plague or something? He has a look in his eyes– and where’s the lass? Why isn’t she with you?” Masamune added, studying him closely.
Nobunaga studied him impassively, and waited for the tumult to die down. Only the inner circle was present, as Mitsuhide had requested. He strode forward, but did not sit.
“What I’m about to tell you doesn’t leave this room.” He began, and explained her absence.
Masamune offered a low whistle, with an amused look in his eye, while Hideyoshi stared blankly and Nobunaga tapped his fan on his knee thoughtfully. Ieyasu snorted derisively, and Mitsunari knit his brow in concentration.
“That was several months ago. What have you been doing since then?” Hideyoshi asked, finally shifting out of his reverie.
Mitsuhide smiled perhaps the first entirely honest smile he had ever offered them, knowing that it was probably ghastly on his gaunt face. “Why, scheming to bring her home, of course.”
“You’ve finally lost that tangled excuse for a mind.” Ieyasu said harshly.
“Oh quite possibly.” Mitushide answered, sweeping his gaze across the room as he made his great gamble. “But then again, none of you have ever known me when I truly wanted something.”
Nobunaga narrowed his eyes with a taut smile. “And just how do you intend to accomplish such a feat?” He asked, coldly.
Mitsuhide cocked his head and looked out the window at the soft blue sky, picturing her under the cherry blossoms for half a moment. “With the closing of this rotten age, my lords. The time for peace and unification has come, one way–” he dropped his hand to his gun, “or another.”
“You crazy bastard.” Masamune said with a wild laugh. “I like this side of you.”
The blood had drained from Hideyoshi’s face, and his voice shook as his hand drifted toward his sword, hissing “what have you done?”
“I wouldn’t, Hideyoshi. If I don’t leave this council with my head on my shoulders all hell will break loose.” Mitsuhide answered, lightly.
“Speak your piece.” Nobunaga said darkly.
“With Kenshin and Shingen alive and dragging the last of the Imagawa in tow, we could be at war for who knows how long, and with unpredictable results. But I need a rough sequence of events to unfold, and it doesn’t include endless war. The remnants of monks of Heiei and the Mori are problems all their own, and then there’s your puppet Shogun.” He said, gesturing at Nobunaga.
“We’re all aware of the current situation.” Hideyoshi spat through gritted teeth. “What’s your point?”
“There are too many personal vendettas and ambitions at play for this to ever be settled under only our volition, unless it’s by battle royale with only one left alive. Given her affection for all of you, that’s not a particularly desirable outcome either.”
“All this for a woman.”  Masamune said with amusement.
“Lord Mitsuhide…” Mitsunari cut in at last, with quiet dread in his voice, “you’re talking as if you’ve brought in an outside army.”
The air was electric as Nobunaga leaned forward with a hard glitter in his eyes.
“Not so much an outside army as evening the odds for the people we have no business trampling over on our way to glory. I’ve armed the women in every fief, and given the farmers instructions to stop working the fields if our demands for peace aren’t met. They may choose to rise up and kill me, of course, but as long as I’m a convenient mouthpiece, I’m reasonably safe.”
Hideyoshi struck him hard across the face, leaving him with the taste of blood in his mouth. “You’re going to– no, you’ve already thrown the country into chaos and famine!” He thundered, red faced with fury.
“It sounds quite peaceful outside to me. More peaceful than it has in my memory. No thundering cavalry, no armies marching at the pleasure of men who are, in the end, only men no better or worse than they.” Mitsuhide replied, dabbing the blood from the corner of his mouth with his sleeve.
“What hope could peasant women and farmers have against trained armies?” Nobunaga asked contemptuously.
“Not much, it’s true, but how long do you think your foot soldiers would heed the order to attack their mothers, sisters, daughters and wives? You’d order them to destroy the future, and for what–” his voice rose, hoarse and strident, “to say that you ruled the world?”
He made a sweeping gesture, hoping that his words, always his favorite weapon, would secure a bloodless victory.
“Every throne casts the shadow of its own destruction, my lords. We clamber to the heavens and live in dread of those we leave below, driven to greater and greater cruelty to avoid being dragged to the hell that we ourselves have made.”
He dropped his hands and and his voice, and looked each of them in the eye in turn.
“Isn’t it better to dig graves for our pride than our people?”
The silence was louder than any sound could ever have been.
It was finally broken by a ringing, rolling laugh from Nobunaga, who finally sat back and cleared his throat with a wide, wild smile, and the tiniest flash of relief somewhere far, far back in his dark eyes.
“I knew you were going to revolt eventually, but holding a gun to all of our heads, from the Imperial court to the local magistrates–” he shook his head and chuckled again, “and not even with the ambition to rule! Ingenious.”
“My lord–” Hideyoshi said, his expression tense.
“Enough. We’ve been outplayed.” Nobunaga said with a wave of his fan. “It’s almost poetic– in the end, the people unified themselves.”
How many years ago had that day been? His mind was still sharp, even as his body had begun to fail him, heart growing weaker by the day. He had wrung out every bit of his strength taking aim at the distant future.
The years had been full of mountains of correspondence, leagues of riding from one end of the country to the other to keep the peace, to pluck out the seeds of war before they could be well and truly sown.
And always in the dark, the memory of her, and the hope that every step forward and every day would build a shrine that could carry his heart to her.
He whispered to her in the night, when the fear that it wasn’t enough chilled him, knowing that the odds were astronomically stacked against them, he whispered every sweet and longing word into quiet space where she should have been. Dreams of her carried him through, of the warmth of her body, the feel of her skin, every exquisite shudder and sigh, even the painful aching fire of unfulfilled lust he carried like a penitent barbarian in their horsehair shirt.
He had spent the first half of his life trusting no-one, and spent the latter half holding his trust like a weapon– trust in her, in himself, in whatever capricious force had brought them together in the first place.
The irony of dying in hopes of giving himself a second chance at life was never lost on him, who had never so much as believed in the immaterial soul. Time was an enemy and his dearest ally.
With the final preparations made, with nothing left but to leave his faith in the children and grandchildren of his friends and one time enemies, he was helped into the saddle for one last ride. The old scar on his arm ached as the early winter snow drifted down.
The ruins of Honno-ji had become an overgrown mass over the years, but he had built a small cozy hut there, the place where he had begun to live, the place where he intended to die.
“Thank you, Kyubei.” He said as took the proffered cup of sake gratefully, watching the snowfall in the quiet night.
“I’m Kyubei’s  grandson,” the young man said, and gave him a conciliatory pat on the shoulder.
“Ah. Forgive an old man for losing track of time.” He said, quietly.
The quiet snowfall had lulled him into a deep, peaceful sleep, a dream where she was curled against him, so warm, a dream of a long ago kiss upon the back of his neck, of her cradled in his arms, of her beautiful body tangled with his, of her precious voice telling him
You do not have to be good
but you are
Somewhere in the deep blue dawn he heard the calling. He struggled up, half staggering, half crawling, toward the door.
“Wait– where are you going?” The boy cried out, trying to take hold of his sleeve, but he felt lighter than he had in years, felt as light as the flakes of falling snow.
“The wild geese are calling me to my place by her side…” he said, bare feet in the soft snow, strangely warm as he walked toward the place where the balcony had been and folded his legs neatly beneath him, hands in his lap, heart in his hands to give to her as he closed his eyes.
She had had one day and 7 hours to dispose as best she could of her life, but nothing had ever been easier. She had already been living as if she were dead, and dropped her letters of farewell into the post without a single regret.
It felt as if she were floating a little above the ground as she carefully wrapped up four sets of glasses for Sasuke, and went to the monument to wait with one more poem on her lips like a prayer
A kiss on the forehead—erases misery. I kiss your forehead. A kiss on the eyes—lifts sleeplessness. I kiss your eyes. A kiss on the lips—is a drink of water. I kiss your lips.
How many lives were folded between the two of them like ink dropped into water, and why, she didn’t ask. Just one, even if it hurt sometimes, if it frightened them both, if it was struggle, just one would be so much more than enough.
The pressure and the crackle in the air brought grateful tears to her eyes when they arrived, and she stood fearlessly and walked into the wormhole, eyes wide open.
It was the same dark haze but she felt as if she were being dragged every which way, buffeted first toward one blurred landscape and then another, searching frantically for him.
She saw the diverging paths of his life, the violent heartbreaking ends, the loneliness, and shards of incohate moments.
Snow. He was there in the snow, seated as if in silent meditation, beauty still apparent under the marks of age.
He didn’t stir as she cried out his name, again and again, telling him she had returned as the sight of his serene face faded. She felt a familiar cool hand brush her tears away with a touch so soft and light, felt guided toward a faint light, and began to run.
“Are you ill?” Nobunaga asked as Mitsuhide pitched forward onto his knees, and clutched his head.
“I– I just had the odd sensation of having… died.” He mumbled, faintly.
Sasuke cocked his head thoughtfully, watching the storm as it descended.
“You called these peace talks under threat of revolution you’re not allowed to die of a broken heart, you insufferable snake.” Hideyoshi said angrily.
The four of them had ridden up to Honno-ji as the storm came on, and he felt as if his head were full of intense flashes of something he couldn’t name– other selves, other lives.
“I did warn you that the timeline reasserting itself might be unpleasant.” Sasuke said dryly, and adjusted his battered glasses.
“Shouldn’t she be here by now?” Hideyoshi asked as he hoisted Mitsuhide to his feet.
“There’s no guarantee–” Sasuke began, and was cut off by Nobunaga gesturing toward the balcony.
He scrambled across the sleet slicked ground, feeling that same desperate fear and hope as he stumbled up the stairs, overcome with the sensation that it had been so much longer than a single year, weak in the knees as he slid down, straining to see into the twisting cloud.
She toppled into him, snow in her hair and on her lashes, and they fell together onto the cold and sooty wood of the balcony. She was so warm in his trembling arms, her pounding heart pressed to his.

Here is a space inspired poster that I created in my free time and I thought that it would be a good addition to the blog, especially since it shows off a few skills that I have learnt with my own research and general experimenting with photoshop, also a space themed poster just fits really well with the current project; I have even used a few of the assets I created of this in the cover of my comic and in my orb planet animation.
At a first glance, the process used to make the poster is rather complicated, but one you get into it, it is rather simple. first I started off By created an new square canvas with a black background and using the elliptical marquee tool, while holding shift to create a perfect circle which filled roughly a third of the canvas. Now, using a graphics tablet and a soft brush, I “shaded” the lighter areas onto the circle using a light yellow colour; the brush went from 8 to 2 on the circle as to keep the circle looking like a round object.
Next, I created textured brush using the stone texture I have shown above, then with that new brush, I followed the same motion with the brush and made sure to keep the dark areas dark since in the shadow of a planet, you can't see much detail. During this entire process, the round marquee tool should still be active. Now, using that marquee tool, go to filter > distort > spherize and set it to 100% and click okay; just to make sure, repeat the process with 50%. Now, still with the marquee tool, cut the planet out of that layer and paste it into a new transparent layer; this helps get rid of any weird edges.
Now, duplicate that layer and with that new layer, go to layer > layer style > blending options then change the blending mode to linear dodge with a 0% opacity. Then add an outer glow with a light blue colour, set to linear dodge with a size around 15. (15 was my starting point, though I did adjust it to what I thought looked best.) and then, add am inner glow with the same blue, linear dodge again, with an opacity of 71 and a size of approximately 70; again, play around with the settings for the best results. Now, make a new layer, link it with the the atmosphere layer then merge the two layers: this makes the effects put onto the atmosphere layer a fundamental part of the layer. Then using a large soft eraser, remove the section of the atmosphere layer that is in the shadow of the planet.
The next thing to do is add some depth to the image, so duplicate the planet layer then go to Filter > stylise > emboss; emboss the planet at an angle of around -33 degrees, a height of and the amount of 500%. Desaturate the embossed layer then duplicate it, using the levels function, darken on of the layers and make the other lighter, these will add some highlights and shadow to the image. change the dark layer to linear dodge with the opacity of 70% and the light layer to multiply with an opacity of 50%.
Now, merge those layers and pull them to a new A3 canvas with a black background.
In a new, square canvas, create a cloud field and go to filter > distort > twist, set it to the maximum and repeat the twist 3 times.  Using a soft eraser, remove the centre of the twist and the edges to create a ring then use the transformation tool to make it as flat as you want. Then, go to Filter > Noise > add noise, set it to around 15% and gaussian, next use the saturation tool and set it to -100. Then use the levels tool and move the central marker to the right, next open saturation again, mark colourise and set it to whatever colour you want. Finally, pull the ring into the A3 canvas and set it to screen, then erase the part of the ring which would be behind the planet.
I then followed some of the previous steps to create a smaller planet which I would use as a moon.
Next, I added a noise field in a transparent layer above the black background, added a lens flare set it to linear light, added yet another noise above all of the layers and finally a colour saturation layer, giving the image a blue hue, which helped adding to the old, low quality image look.
It’s a rather long process to make these planet images, but I definitely think it is worth, especially considering the end result is rather photorealistic and it’s easy to make different outcomes with this process by simply changing a few settings, making a different kind of texture brush or simply changing which direction the light comes from.

Blog meme: Lysandre, Ganondorf, and. Q, if only because the idea of Q with a Tumblr is amazing.
Lysandre:

Has a radical environmentalist blog at green-wood-and-forest-fires and a ventblog at hvm4ns4r3th3pr0bl3m
the kind of posts they reblog
On green-wood, ton of ‘we HAVE to do x!!!’ ecofriendly posts that propose methods that are only accessible to the upper crust, dubious statistics and infographics about how fucked the world is, generally one of those blogs that looks really useful but turns out to be a circlejerk of scaremongering and misinformation if you look too deeply at the sources. Probably a few Onion articles taken seriously, too.
On hvm4ns, basically just a ton of images and anecdotes about the horrible things humanity has done. Animal abuse, gore, death, a general ‘humans are inherently evil’ theme. Not much on human on human mistreatment other than classical/historical stuff, so the Crusades and bedlams instead of institutional racism or lgbt+phobia.
the first person they followed
green-wood followed Sycamore’s blogs first, and occasionally reblogs cute Pokemon pictures from it en masse under the tag ‘#feel better’
hvm4ns browses tags for content and follows back those with similar content
what kind of theme they’d have
green-wood is soft grays and whites with dark orange text, pixel font and three columns. There’s a tag page that’s meticulously updated but most of them only have a few posts in each because everything’s subdivided so much.
hvm4ns is one of those nightmares formatted like tumblr’s ‘search’ feature. there’s an about page and a tags page, but no links to them, so you’ve got to type in the URLs manually. each page has a different theme, always along the lines of high-contrast black/white/red/yellow.
what kind of text posts they make at 2am
most 2am posts are posted to green-wood then deleted later in the morning with a ‘sorry wrong blog’ because he meant to post them to his vent blog. mostly just complaints about the state of the world, the inherent goodness of man, and first world problems.
Ganondorf

if it’s not something really smart in Gerudo transliterated into english-equivalent, it’s a pun involving it like ‘voe-betide-you’. it’s supposed to be secret squirrel but anyone who’s had a five minute casual conversation with him will recognise his horse from the pictures.
the kind of posts they reblog
Tons of political activism stuff, especially bashthefash and black bloc resources. Names, addresses, and phone numbers of people who have done something to warrant the torrent of abuse (neonazis, defenders of state/police brutality, rape endorsers, ect). Many rants and callout posts about racism and cultural appropriation, also historical revisionism and international politics. Also lots and lots and LOTS of pictures of animals, especially his horse, doing cute things.
the first person they followed
Unknowingly followed Zelda’s political activism blog. Ends up following Link’s blog for all the cute animal photos through the aforementioned.
what kind of theme they’d have
Fairly plain, large text with a sidebar on the left and the rest of the page devoted to posts. Decorated with desaturated traditional art bordering the edges of the sidebar and each individual post.
what kind of text posts they make at 2am
Self-doubts and reflections, under Read Mores and usually deleted by morning. Expect a lot of “is this even the right thing?” and “i want to do right by my people but it’s never worked before” and “the definition of insanity is repeating the same course of action and expecting a different outcome each time” and just generally vagueposting about the cyclical nature of reincarnation. Because he does not exactly have a good time of it from what we’ve seen.
and finally, the one you’ve all been waiting for: Q!!!
their blog url
Along with his icon, he changes it CONSTANTLY. Usually it’s a pun, like q-can-depend-on-it or why-dont-q or areqkiddingme, but also cycling through some of his favourite quotes from his favourite starfleet members. take-your-domestic-off-my-ship lasted nearly a month.
the kind of posts they reblog
Shitposts, diss tracks, surreal memes, unreality shit, accurate and amusing historical trivia, inaccurate but amusing historical trivia, and complete bullshit are the permanent elements. He’ll generally switch ‘main’ topics depending on who he’s hanging out with at the time, or who he’s trying to butter up, so a lot of moral/ethical discussions and landscapes for Picard, cute animals and relaxing videos and coffee porn for Janeway, ect.
the first person they followed
The first person Q followed was Picard. the second was Janeway. the third was Riker’s supposed-to-be-secret anti-sjw vent blog, literally just for the drama. Fourth was a mostly-humorus riker hateblog, of which he makes a point of always reblogging the ‘Number of femenine-presenting crewmembers Riker has not attempted to hit on’ counter. He tags Picard every time it falls below double digits.
what kind of theme they’d have
Much like his URL, it changes constantly. Every page has an entirely different theme. All of them have autoplay, except the ones you’d expect to have autoplay. Which are they? Only you know. Font size is different everywhere too.
what kind of text posts they make at 2am
Mixture of shitposts (’what if birds could fly? how fucked up would that be’ ‘oh wait’), his own take on deep philosophy (’if your only encounter with higher lifeforms is at their discretion, and you are to them what an ant is to you, and an ant is to you what a cell is to an ant, and a cell is to an ant what an atom is to a cell, and so on and so forth, the most reasonable hypothesis is that the rabbit hole goes up indefinitely as well and those more powerful than the likes of the Continuum have simply not deigned to interact and frankly i’m offended they want to miss out on moi’), and personal moments of self-doubt and reflection (’have i made the right choices in life? have i done the right things?’ ‘ive been trying but have i been trying hard enough to be a good parent?’)

Review - How I progress my project
To start this project I’ll use mind maps to explore a large amount of topics I can use to think about ideas, and see if I can connect multiple together to create something more interesting. I did this last year by connecting Conspiracy with Tea Party, by making a tea party of a bunch of assassin girls. So I’ll be doing the same this year and also think about what type of art I enjoy the most and see if I can create something in the same genre.
Research is super important to me as it keeps me fresh and inspired for what I create. I find if I don’t do a lot of research or consume different media than I’m used to I become extremely uninspired and creative and create extremely bland things. I’ll be researching all types of media, including films, artists, people, tv shows, places and even other people in the class. I’ll take away what it means to me and how it relates to my project and how it can help me or doesn’t help me. I like to take apart other artist’s paintings and recognise process’ and brushes that I like that can help benefit my work overall. An example of this is learning that instead of using a blend brush some artists use blur tools to blend and it can work so much better. This has heavily helped me create more subtle and effected gradients in my work and very grateful for learning this information.
Over 2 years in the course I’ve learnt that there’s probably a solution for every problem that comes along. As I’m staying to digital painting there’s not usually a lot of problems that come along with it apart from technical incase the program crashes/files are lost. But this is easily counteracted by having auto save every 5 minute intervals and making multiple versions and saves on memory sticks and google drive. I additionally make multiple copies of the file before I start painting where everything is on separate layers incase I mess something up that requires me to get line art back. For printing problems, I’ll just use proffesional printing services. This is because majority of my paintings are highly saturated and in the RGB format. Where the printers available to me are only CMYK. As I would like to be making a model this project again that may become a problem for me as I’m not much of a model maker myself but I enjoy it and think it adds a lot more interest to my project. I will have to remember how to block out models from super rough shapes to the smoother final project as I usually like to smooth out the material instantly. I will also probably have to try different types of clay to use, if I try super sculpey again or something else like Chavant clay. Depending on the scale of the model I want to make. If I encounter any problems I’ll ask my tutors or another student in the class that is a model maker as they’ll probably have a good idea with how to help me.
Like every project I shall make a timetable and create mini deadlines for myself to help pressure myself into creating the most work possible. For example I remember last year towards the end of the project I struggled to produce paintings due to stress and worrying so I’ll set myself deadlines to complete final paintings before that time comes. I’ll be leaving aspects of the project like the model until the end of the project as it’ll help me see if I have enough work to support my paintings and other pieces of work first. Additionally the model isn’t my intended main piece so it doesn’t matter so much if I don’t have a lot of time to work on it.
So my specialism is digital painting although slowly also getting comfortable with traditional painting. I also model make. I find digital painting and model making sort of similar in the way you approach the piece. You start with incredibly simple and rough shapes then build it up and up until it’s done. With painting I start with a sketch with a marker tool and keep it fluid and rough, I use the marker tool as it blends really nicely with the paint brush I use. However if I was doing linework I’d use a pencil as it’s better and conveying solid lines, whereas the marker tool has an opacity and good to blend. It’s good for my linework to blend as I’m doing a super smooth painting style thats subtle so I avoid harsh shapes at all costs.
I usually reflect on every piece I create and want to make sure each painting is my new best. Sometimes that doesn’t work out and gives me all more reason to review and reflect on what I don’t like and how I can improve it in the future. Recently I’ve been pushing myself to leaving a finished painting alone for a day and then revisiting it a day later with a fresh head to point out any mistakes or aspects I was lazy on. For example I came back to a piece and completely redid the hair and it looks so soft and fluffy afterwards compared to the rather flat shapes I had before.
Originally I was really shy about presenting my work however as I found out the previous year I like creating a space that is mine and that shows off me as an artist. For my final pieces I’ll have them professionally printed as I use digital painting my colour range is RGB however most standard printers use CMYK that would make my work considerably desaturated. Whereas professional printers so sRGB. I’ll mount these prints on foam board as I feel like frames are a little too loud for the amount of paintings I’d like to create. I’ll also have my model on show too. I feel like this will show off all my skills I’ve learnt over the two years. Additionally I may have an art book that acts like a portfolio on show to for people that are more interested in my work. Artist’s presentation of their work that I’ve looked at includes Ilya Kuvshinov who had his prints on wooden boards with art books underneath on a shelf. From what I realised last year I enjoyed decorating my space too so if I have time I may personalise the shelf and maybe add some mini decorations such as lights around my project to create a space on my wall that’s bright colourful and me instead of a boring bland wall that no one wants to look at. To present my worksheets and moodboards I’ll have them in an A3 portfolio, although I won’t have it at the show it’ll be good to use to show off online and at any late interviews I may want to attend for what my processes are like for project work and the type of outcomes I create.
