so i'm having my students do a mini unit on japanese authors and they have to read one of their stories. they had a list of authors and stories to choose from (with a group) and one group picked "lemon" by kajii and the bsd character kept coming up and my one student was like "this is sad. imagine you're an author and more pictures of your anime guy come up than of you" and then she started hyperfixating on kajii and insulted his attire and then she was like "miss h... what's... what's his power??? lemonade???" and i had to explain "he can't get hurt from lemon bomb explosions" and the kid and her group just Stared at me and went "... what?" and i repeated it and it was SO FUNNY

#i had some kids start to write about the bsd character and i had to be like 'no while that would be lovely that's not the actual guy'#some people were researching dazai and were SO SHOCKED by his life iuyfdxfcgyhuijok #i had one kid go 'miss h! did you know kenji was vegetarian???' as if it were something super wild and out there uiytftgyhujkijuhygtf #but some people seemed to actually kind of get into it!!! which made me really happy!#anyways that's all #on my first day off of the semester with grace <333 #we went to a bookstore and i got a really pretty copy of anne of green gables!!!#haven't read it yet - very excited to!#corey talks:)#teaching tag

No, you don't get it: the most tragic thing to ever happen in any of Lucy Maud Montgomery's books is that Anne would have been around 90 by the time The Lord of the Rings was published - and she would have loved it so...

And she absolutely did live to read it (look, I get to make the rules; it's canon from now on) but imagine her having access to it as a teen! Then, she definitely wasn't there to read The Silmarillion and these books were just written for her, you know...

(sad noises)

#Now that you think about it Anne was born *far* earlier than you'd think #like apparently in 1865 #(oh wait #that's nearly the same year as Laura Ingalls but the lives were so different)#(anyway the wild west was in full swing)#but then LMM's books all have this timeless quality #Anne of Green Gables (1870s) or Emily of Silver Bush (1990s) and Pat of Silver Bush/Mistress Pat(1920s-30s) feel quite similar #and the only things to place the various series on a timeline (aside from a few mentions of technology/fashions) are references to WW1 #(aside from Rilla of Ingleside rather offhand ones)#.#(having mentioned the Pat duology in the same sentence as the word “timeline”#(i can't not reference)#(the fact that the second book starts around the time it was published and takes place during 11 years)#(yes - 11!)#(which does pose a danger)#(because the author has unknowingly positioned the ending right in the middle of WW2)#original post #anne of green gables #lucy maud montgomery #theory of literature #tt

forever baffled by that one scene in the continuing story (anne of green gables) where anne refuses to... what was it, sign a contract w jack or something? idk. but where jack's response is to scale the building and threaten suicide if she doesn't do so

like. what. why???? why would you do that?! and then it never comes up again?? does he have a death wish? is it just that he's drunk, like anne says? or what? why would you include this sort of scene if there's no reason??

I am so close to being done with these dolls. Maybe this week and I'll be done?

Still to do:

Sew pockets on the jacket for Gilbert

Make hair piece for Gilbert

Create eye sockets and embroider the eyes (trying to decide if I want to make the eyes different colors +/- black pupils or just dark brown and call it good.

Make noses

Sew eyebrows

Sew mouths

Sew ears on Gilbert? (I've made them but they seem a bit large)

Sew on Anne's hairpiece

Add buttons: dresses, aprons, vest, and jacket

Curl Diana's hair

Ribbons for hair

Ribbons for dresses

Add lace to the bottom of the dresses as petticoats

Ruffles on Diana's apron/apron sleeves? Or maybe sew on lace?

Iron it all and tack down the collars
