Canon Information- Pieces of Eden

A Piece of Eden is a type of sophisticated technology created by the Isu which reacts with the network of neurotransmitters engineered into human brains. With the notable exception of the Shrouds of Eden, the majority of the Pieces of Eden were designed for the primary purpose of mentally and physically controlling human thoughts, emotions, and behavior. They were, therefore, the main instrument by which the Isu forced the humans to serve as slaves.
The powers of the Pieces of Eden have mystified humanity over millennia, enough for them to conflate them with "magic" throughout history. The extinction of the Isu civilization following the Great Catastrophe only reinforced this, as memories of the Isu faded into legends and myths. (now that I'm thinking about it, even if the Isu were wiped out, its very highly unlikely that humans wouldn't also be wiped out in canon. Due to the humans and Isu sharing a society, but the lore never explains this.)
Since humans lack the technological expertise to reproduce these devices, they have long been the subject of innumerable conflicts between rival humans seeking them for their own ends. In particular, they are a central obsession of the Templar Order, which has devoted much of their resources to searching and seizing these artifacts in their quest for world domination. (no mention on how the assassins have become similarly obsessed? Hm)
Description
Although most classes of Pieces of Eden, such as the Apples and Staves of Eden, were utilized as tools by which humanity could be controlled, others deviated from this purpose. The Swords of Eden are primarily weapons capable of emitting energy blasts while the Shrouds of Eden are medical in nature, designed for healing even the most mortal of wounds. The diverse functions of the devices extend further: many are capable of bending the thoughts of one or more individuals to that of the user, projecting illusions or concealing the user's presence. The Precursor boxes, powered by other Pieces of Eden, can imprint the memories of its users onto others and decode examples of Isu script, like the Voynich manuscript. (which then begs the question, if the Isu were able to manipulate DNA in order to possess humans and also able to imprint memories: WHATS THE POINT OF THE ANIMUS THEN??? WHY IS IT STILL USED OR EVEN CONSIDERED IMPORTANT TO THE STORY? Why the FUCK did the games make it such a big deal that Desmond had such a high sync rate when they can *apparently* use someone else's blood to see the memories of their ancestors?)
Other functions are more mundane relative to modern human technology, such as the projection of holograms or the Crystal Skulls which act as long-distance communication devices, but these nevertheless appeared supernatural to ancient peoples. (so would zoom to a person living in the 1950s bro)
Since the end of the Isu civilization, these devices, appearing sporadically in the hands of humans, have acquired a status as legendary relics of phenomenal properties. Greatly eclipsing the technological level of human civilization, even into modern times, the Pieces of Eden bestow tremendous power over society to those who come to possess them. (and going mad is just a fun side effect to show off at parties, I guess? Odd how that literally never comes up in the story, but it was shown to happen over and over again in previous games, but ok. Oh! And don't forget it was previously established that only certain people could use them without going insane! Because the writers sure as shit did.)
Their employment has therefore had immense impacts on human history; some of the most influential leaders such as Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Mahatma Gandhi were aided by their use of a Piece of Eden. (???? wasn't there a whole codex page about how Altaïr felt conflicted at killing Genghis Khan once he realized that humans had the potential to do great harm to each other without the PoE? Becuase he didn't? Have one when Altaïr killed him? Or was that yet another retcon later on?)
Recognizing their significance, the Pieces of Eden have been at the forefront of the Templar Order's goals for centuries as they hope that by exploiting the artifacts, they could achieve their vision of a New World Order. The contest for the Pieces of Eden between the Templars and their archenemies, the Assassins, who traditionally seek to safeguard them, has been a hallmark of their millennia long war. (hey, remember when Desmond had that badass sequence where he raids the Abstergo base to save his dad, killing people left and right with his blades and apple of Eden? And no one said anything about the fact that he, an Assassin, used a PoE the same way templars do? And treated the event like it was insignificant? This girlie does!)
Characteristics and attributes
"This... piece of silver cast out Adam and Eve. It turned staves into snakes. Parted and closed the Red Sea. Eris used it to start the Trojan War; and with it, a poor carpenter turned water into wine."

(?????? Did i miss something? When did he say this? No, fr, when did he ever say this? Am I just forgetting something? Did he say this in the novels? In revelations? Like, genuinely, when did he ever have an open and honest discussion with Altaïr about the PoEs?)
Amongst the greatest tools known to man, the Apples of Eden can control the human mind by interacting with a neurotransmitter located deep in the human brain. (and yet for some reason, there are so many different PoEs that have nothing to do with mind control...)
Other Pieces of Eden are capable of warping reality, creating illusions, ensuring total obedience and healing physical injuries.[1][2] (which only makes things more confusing when the lore claims the Isu couldn't change the past) Both Templars and the Assassins believe that the Pieces of Eden were responsible for many historical tales and miracles, such as the Parting of the Red Sea, the Trojan War, the miracles enacted by Jesus Christ, and the Biblical plagues that ravaged Egypt.[3] According to Dr. Álvaro Gramática, all Pieces of Eden are made of an unknown metal resembling gold or silver that Abstergo dubbed 'Pathorica'.[4]
Abilities of the Pieces
Some Pieces of Eden were known to interact with and change the passage of time, possibly creating paradoxes. Others were able to "speak" to those who wielded them, as was the case with Ezio Auditore, Perotto Calderon and Giovanni Borgia, who spoke with Ezio's Apple and the Shroud.[2][5]
When activated, Apples of Eden are capable of extending a pulse of energy that can drive those in the surrounding area to insanity and death. Doing so has a detrimental effect on the physical health of the wielder if they are unskilled in the Apples' use, but a capable user is not as easily afflicted.[6] Altaïr, for example, was able to use Apple #2 for a limited duration without adverse affects at age 92.[7] Using the Pieces' powers in short bursts can also minimize the negative effects dealt by the artifacts, though to what extent is unknown.[1]
Destruction of a Piece
Following the destruction of Apple of Eden #2 during an experiment at the Denver International Airport, the Templars found themselves in need of another artifact with similar properties. Seeking access to a map that indicated the location of all Pieces of Eden, Abstergo kidnapped Desmond Miles in order to view the memories of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. This would allow them to see the very same map that Altaïr discovered in 1191.[3]
Each of the Pieces of Eden contained a great deal of potential energy, and the destruction of one could cause an explosion on the scale of a nuclear blast. One such explosion occurred in 1908, in the region of Tunguska, Russia. The Imperial Sceptre, one of the Staves of Eden, was seemingly destroyed when Nikola Tesla fired at the Tunguska facility with his wireless electric weapon, attempting to strike a blow against the Templars.[1][3][8]
However, the blast failed to totally destroy the Staff, and at least one shard remained.[9] The Staff shard still possessed powers of mind control, as demonstrated by Grigori Rasputin. While he was in possession of the shard, he brainwashed Alexandra Feodorovna, the wife of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, as well as several disciples like Khioniya Guseva.[2]

Altaïr deactivating an Apple
Although the Isu created humanity to be susceptible to the Pieces of Eden, eventual cross-breeding between them and their slaves led to the birth of a hybrid species. These new humans possessed some of the natural abilities of their creators and were free of the neurotransmitter necessary for the Pieces of Eden to control them.[1]
The first two known hybrids were Adam and Eve, who later stole one of the Apples of Eden and instigated the Human-Isu War.[1] Members of their lineage inherited these natural abilities and immunity to the Pieces, although the Pieces' ability to physically manipulate them remained.[3] These traits were passed down through generations to the likes of Altaïr, Ezio and Desmond.[1]
By the early 21st century, the Templars were aware that some humans were immune to the Pieces' mind control. On at least one occasion, Dr. Warren Vidic received an email from an individual unaffected by the Apple's power, who threatened to expose what they had seen when an Apple was used on others.[3] (this is also another thing i have issue with: is it only people who have Isu DNA that can resist? can anyone with a strong willpower resist? what makes one susceptible to them when literally anyone can use them, but some people go crazy)
Also, I want to go more into detail in a separate reblog simply because the apples of eden are the most retconned PoE with so many abilities that go against what they originally were described to be able to do.

My theory of Hazbin Hotel's main plot.
[This may just be a hot take or me whimsically spitballing headcanon, but I have thought about this and, while I don't have all the puzzle's pieces, I think I have enough to make out a decent picture. So bear with me as I unload the insanity that has been in my head since entering the Hellaverse.]
Starting things off, I think the main villain/antagonist of HH's plot is the obvious elephant in the room...Roo aka The Root of ALL Evil.

According to Vivziepop, Roo is a "looming threat in the distance", possibly hinting toward her being a future antagonist and she mentioned that there is no character that she is more excited to get into than Roo, but, she also mentioned that it's "gonna be a long time". So likely we won't see her properly till season three but get hints throughout season two and teased at the end. I will make no claim that "defeating" Roo solves everything in the universe because that's nonsense. There is no good without evil. So you can't just off Roo who's been there since the beginning. And I mean THE beginning. I'm talking the creation of EVERYTHING.

Evil exists at the start before Lucifer does anything, this is a fact. So where am I going with this? Let's continue down the line. To the one driving my train of thought...Lilith.

For someone who didn't eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, Lilith was very aware of certain things and had independent free will. But humanity didn't get this autonomy till after the fruit fiasco, so what happened? Why did Lilith have magic main character self-awareness? Well, let's think about this...Why was there such a tree in Eden in the first place? The Angels are making this a paradise and keeping evil out of Earth. So why place a tree in there that would fuck it all up? This was why they didn't want Lucifer making shit because they were worried his ideas would be too risky and bad could happen. So again, why was this tree here? What if...The Angels didn't make it.

I propose, as her name so implies, that Roo sprouted the tree up without the Angels knowing in the hopes the fruit would be eaten and allow evil to taint the world. Lilith might have gotten a hint of what the tree granted and what simple veil that clouded her eyes was lifted enough to make her reject Adam and flee the garden. It's even said that "together" she and Lucifer share the gift of free will with Eve, but Lilith seems to take this stand back and watch approach when Lucifer gives her the fruit, almost like she's uncertain what eating it will do so she keeps her distance. This again, also hints that Lilith has had free will from the start and didn't eat the fruit because it was only when Eve ate the fruit did evil finally break the seal to enter Earth.

"As punishment for their reckless act, Heaven cast Lucifer and his love into the dark pit he had created."
Now here's where it gets a bit more headcanony because this line could mean nothing or everything. Lucifer and Lilith are banished to the newly made Hell. I repeat...Heaven cast Lucifer and Lilith into Hell. Nowhere does it say she died. So...We have the first human woman who didn't eat the fruit and never died. By technically, Lilith still has her immortality. She's the oldest human alive. It's also stated Lucifer shares his power with her (and Charlie), which makes sense if she's just some dull human. So, now imbued with this mix of angel/demon rizz, Lilith becomes even more OP and Hell's mary sue Queen that dominates like the bad boss bitch she is.

"Lilith thrived, empowering demonkind with her voice and her songs. And as the numbers of Hell grew, so did its power."
Lilith as a character has a surprisingly decent amount of info to work with considering we only saw her for the smallest moment. So here's some goodies I've collected from the wiki that are of note.
{According to Vivziepop, Lilith is the "big, slowburn mystery" of the show, adding that we are going to slowly start getting answers over the course of the "next couple seasons", and that season two gives some more pieces to it.}
{When asked about what Lilith was like, Faustisse described Lilith as graceful, regal, and politically charged. Lilith is someone who is exceptionally equanimous. This was implied in "Overture" as in the "Story of Hell" book she is depicted helping Hell thrive over the years using her voice and her songs.}
{When asked about Lilith and Lucifer's dynamic, Faustisse believed their relationship could be summed up with the phrase, "Behind every man is a greater woman", and that they love each other very much. They describe Lilith and Lucifer as "passionate, cheesy lovers". They are of the opinion that Lilith "wears the pants" in her family, but they think both Lilith and Lucifer are switches within their intimate life.}
{When asked about Lilith's powers, Faustisse declined to answer, citing possible spoilers for the main series. They did, however, state that they did not think Lilith had wings like Charlie and Lucifer, although saw no reason why she wouldn't be able to manifest them if she wished. According to Faustisse, Lilith can change the shape of her horns, but it's unlikely this will be shown in practice in the series as it would apparently be difficult to show that kind of constant change over consecutive scenes.}
{When asked if the Eden family have some connection to the royal family as well, Vivziepop declined to answer one way or the other.}
{Due to her origins as a former human, it is likewise unclear if Lilith is connected to the Sinners, who are deceased humans and became demons after death; as Lilith was alive when she was banished to Hell, her transition between human and demon is ambiguous.}

{Lilith disappeared seven years prior to the series for reasons unknown, never responding to any of her daughter's attempts to call her. Curiously, she was missing the same amount of years as Alastor. Lilith was later revealed to be in Heaven in "The Show Must Go On". Although the exact reasons remain unknown, it was heavily alluded to that she had made a deal with Adam at some point.}
You might look at all this and be like "Lynn, you dummy, we know all this. This is just random stuff". Oh, I think not. Because in just these bits we get so much. Let's begin with the character setup for diving into my main theory.

I think Lilith does love her family. She has a loving and amazing husband in Lucifer and in Charlotte (aka Charlie) the most adorable and kindhearted daughter any mother could ask for. As Queen, she took charge and made Hell less of a pit to wallow and suffer in, and more like a new home to begin anew. So then...What happened? Why would she suddenly leave and cut all communications? Here is where we dig into the meat of it all. My theory of why Lilith left.

Remember how I said Lilith didn't eat the fruit and still had free will then pounded that over and over into you? Well, going on what I said about her getting "a hint of what the tree granted", Roo could've infected Lilith and gifted her awareness while in Eden. Now in Hell where Roo is arguably stronger due to all the sin and sickness that permeates the realm, her influence on Lilith would increase. Lilith, being the big brain that she is, probably felt something was amiss when she got pregnant. Nine months is a long time to plan things out, and maybe doing a few concerts to warn others of impending danger subtlety might've worked...but only for so long. She needed something. A safety. And that safety was her family. Lucifer likely could've been useful but his depression was beginning to take hold with each failure and the worsening sinners as years passed. So...plan B...Charlie. She would instill in her daughter everything she knew and give her a "destiny".

"But Lilith's hope remained. And her dream passed down to their precious daughter, the Princess of Hell."
With Charlie, Lilith instilled that the people were important. But never explained in what way. As she continued to prepare her daughter, Lilith would come to understand this reason. Power. Roo thrives on the tainted evil that seeps from the sinners. So just as she finishes schooling Charlie, she sets up another backup plan to still Roo's intake long enough for her daughter to figure out a way of her own...And this is where Adam comes in.

"Adam is dead. Your deal is done and I'm in charge now. Your brat is threatening the very foundation of Heaven. And if you want to stay here, you're going down there, and stopping that bitch. You understand me…Lilith?"
Feeling Roo's corruptive influence getting worse because sinners just keep coming, Lilith contacts Adam. Now Adam is still salty but hears his first wife out as she caters to his ego. But Adam is wiser after millennia and knows she's not being innocent here. He bluntly gets her to just spill the beans to which she does, she needs out of Hell. Adam grabs this opportunity and says he can sneak her into Heaven but it'll cost her. He knows how much her precious people mean to her so, vindictively, he says he'll take her in if he can go into Hell and kill demons. Little does he know he's playing into her trap. She "reluctantly" agrees so long as no Hellborn are harmed, only sinners. Adam is all for it, even makes a cover story to tell Sera later how killing sinners in Hell will keep Heaven safe, and Lilith then goes about doing the hardest thing she's ever done. She tells Lucifer of some details of this new Heavenly Extermination thing and that she'll have to go away for a long time, promising to return but unsure when. Heartbroken, Lucifer watches as his love leaves him, their daughter, and their kingdom.

This is what I think it's all been leading to. Lilith having made Charlie into someone for the people and wanting to save souls in a, as funny as it is, maintaining the very balance that got fucked up way back in the garden sort of redeeming way. Restoring order by allowing the good to go where it should've gone in the first place and keeping Roo weak. Maybe Lilith can even get her own redemption, being partially responsible for allowing Roo into our world in the first place. The only added weight I have left to give to my silly little "infected Lilith" idea is how she looks at season one's ending.

She looks pissed and upset, which we can say for a few reasons like how Lute just straight-up calls Charlie a bitch to her face. Like, dude, dick move. But, with Adam dead and seemingly no progress from Charlie (that she knows of), Lute is forcing her to go back to Hell where Roo's influence can grip her once more. I'm not entirely sure just what that could mean but for the sake of the Alastor/Lilith theory fans, let's say when Roo is strong she can puppet Lilith into infecting others via demonic deals. She might have done this countless times with mixed results, only to have full success in Alastor. But Mr deer is a bit too successful a test subject and thus gets his powers leashed. Now we have Alastor trying to force his way out of this mixed-up double-power deal by roping in Charlie, the one kink in this chain that could cause everything to break if forced too much.

It would explain his latching onto Charlie and seeking a deal since the very first time they met. She's a means to an end. The key to unlocking his proverbial collar. It even explains his out-of-nowhere instant disdain for Lucifer. Of course he'd be hostel to the husband of the bitch that metaphorically screwed him and poses a threat to his current plan of using his daughter for his own means.

Well, this was a long as fuck rambling. I hope even a shred of this made sense. Now to sit back and wait for season two to come along and either be like "I got something right" or "Wow I was dead wrong on so many levels". I wonder how long that will take?
"In an interview posted on February 2, 2024, Vivziepop thought that the production of season two might take about one-and-a-half to two years, roughly the same production time season one had."
Oh...um...Looks like we have some time. So, we can expect the new episodes to land in late 2025 at the earliest. *sets up chair* I can wait.

Hi! I had a question. In multiple audios and even in game, there’s a pattern that John is fixated on pain and even women’s pain (Joey, Mary May, and the young woman he mentioned in the collapse that he killed after a night out because of anger) and even he was being a big creep when Mary May saw him for the first time (she was 16-17 wasn’t she), “eyeing her like a piece of meat”. If you can believe the ages given to us, he’s clearly much older than Mary May, and the cults been there for 9-10 years, she’d have to be minor.
My question is, why do you think the fandom and people dismiss his violent urges toward women and he was fixated on minor but still demonize Joseph when John was clearly unhinged on his own?

Hi! And thank you very much for your appreciation :)
We know John has a fixation with pain because of the “freeing” experience he explains he had when he was young, and he hurts people for this reason, but I really don’t think he enjoys inflicting it on women specifically. It’s probably a coincidence that Hudson is a woman and was sent to him instead of Jacob or Faith. The game never suggests that he would have treated Pratt or Burke differently if they had been placed in his “care” instead.
Someone in Far Cry 5 says John is “obsessed with the people in Fall’s End, and with Mary May in particular”, but nothing clearly indicates it’s because she’s a woman. The way I see it, it’s because the Resistance is strong in Fall’s End and Mary May is one of its “three biggest pillars”, as John himself wrote. Evidence shows he’s also “obsessed” with Jerome and Nick for the same reason: they keep resisting and fighting back. Mary May is stubborn, refuses to sell her business to Eden’s Gate, continues to serve alcohol, and essentially keeps saying “no” to John, so I think that explains why he has taken an interest in her. By the way, during the Deputy’s Atonement, even though Mary May is there, John mostly focuses on hurting Nick and Jerome instead, so it doesn’t look like he prefers torturing women to me.
And we’re not sure how old Mary May is, actually. The only official age we have for her is revealed in Far Cry Absolution: 30 years old. I know the Wiki says she was born in 1993 (so 25 years old in 2018) but I think that sounds young… For what it’s worth, Tasya Teles, who played Mary May in Far Cry 5, was born in 1985. And in the novel, John is said to be about 40, which makes much more sense, mathematically speaking, than his age on the Wiki (32 years old). When the Deputy arrives in Hope County, Eden’s Gate has been there for at least 9 years (since August 2009), so if John visited the Spread Eagle in 2009 and the age provided in Absolution is accurate, Mary May was about 21 at the time.
As for the woman John supposedly murdered before Joseph found him… like every new piece of information “revealed” in the Far Cry 6 Season Pass, I think it should be taken with a huge grain of salt. The incident was never mentioned anywhere else before, and while there’s no denying that John is capable of violence and murder, I don’t think him losing control and killing someone while he was working as a lawyer makes sense. According to The Book of Joseph, John Duncan’s anger was strong but it was also “suppressed”, so I doubt he would have physically assaulted anyone at that time. He was “full of rage” but apparently never let it out when he was still “society’s very model of success”.
So I don’t think the fandom ignores that John enjoys making women suffer, thought 16-year-old Mary May looked sexy, and murdered one of his lovers out of anger because these “facts” are all conjectures in the first place! If many people never mention those things about him, I think it’s simply because they know they’re not really canon and mostly come from the fan-created Wiki (which was also used as a source of information by Collapse’s writers). It’s undeniably canon that John is violent and obsessed with pain, but it’s not that he likes to inflict it on women specifically or that he committed murder as John Duncan, and Mary May being only 25 was never officially confirmed, either…
It’s true, however, that people tend to demonize Joseph more than his siblings and blame him for the bad things they do. He’s not innocent, of course, but John, Jacob, and Faith already had a lot of personal issues before they became his Heralds, and I disagree with those who say that they would have been better off without him. Things would have been different, yes, and maybe the cult wouldn’t have existed, but I don’t think their lives would have been better. In my opinion, they would all just have died sooner (and in poorer mental health)… In John’s case, considering he was on a self-destructive path and desperately trying to fill the void inside him, I believe he would have let “John Duncan” consume him completely and ended up drowning in his excesses.
So I agree with you when you say that John already was “unhinged on his own”, in a way, and that Joseph is often blamed for everything, even what he didn’t do. However, I wouldn’t say that the fandom dismisses the other things you mentioned because they’re not facts, just fan theories and interpretations not everybody likes or agrees with.

Yesterday I apparently learned through the Bandai Namco Wiki that Xiaomu has an English voice actor (Amanda C. Miller)???

Alright I'll just say that there are no references and citations for that piece of information, so you can see where I'm going here:
This is 100% fake information.
Why, you ask? Because all of the games Xiaomu (And also Reiji) appeared in don't have English voiceovers. Not even in the English versions.
Their appearances were in:
Namco X Capcom
Endless Frontier and EF Exceed
Project X Zone 1 and 2
All of those games don't have English voiceovers. Only Japanese voiceovers.
So yeah. In conclusion: That info on the Bamco Wiki is fake information.
But...! On a lighter note, if a future Project X Zone game does have English voiceovers, I'd say that Xiaomu's English VA should be Eden Riegel (VA of Marie from Persona 4 Golden, May from Guilty Gear, Princess Cookie in Cookie Run Kingdom, and both Genny and female Kana from the Fire Emblem series)
Also Reiji's English VA should be Chris Hackney (VA of Dimitri from FE3H and Renju from AITSF), just saying

Hi! First off, I ADORE all your character designs, especially Clef and Kondraki. Second, have you ever drawn anything related to SCP-4231? I think that Francis would look amazing in your style
Agh I've been sitting on this ask forever and I feel so bad abt it cause I know that particular scp means a lot to people so short answer: No, but possibly at some point in the future.
Long answer:
Firstly, 4231 is difficult for me to make fanart of in the same way that 3999 is in that it is a very complicated and multilayered piece, but unlike 3999 i don't feel comfortable "brute-forcing" it, so to speak, because the piece deals with a lot of very sensitive subject matter that if portrayed carelessly could easily be read as exploitative. So I'm cautious sharing any of my art about it unless I have, like, a really really good idea.
Secondly, my personal versions of clef and meri, the ones you see in most of my bullshit, are based on a bunch of stray lore from across the wiki that appeals to me, and while there's elements of 4231 in there i don't consider it THE canon backstory for them the way a lot of other people do (quick tangent specifically in the case of meri I actually really really like the pseudo-antichrist eden two apocalypse maiden implications from her rewritten file (im secretly working on and off on a big Thing about it) and kind of dislike her being a child of the scarlet king in comparison, it feels like something that'd maybe fit better with the arc-ed version of her that i really don't like). Which isn't to say i dislike 4231, it's one of my favorite pieces on the wiki, just that anything i made about it would probably be kind of divorced from my other stuff.
Hope that is alright and not too disappointing! There's other artists making 4231 stuff out there and like i said, not a no, maybe i'll wake up tomorrow and come up with a rlly good idea for a piece who knows👍

In the garden of Eden the demiurge sculpted plants and animals, but he could not give them life.
He stole bones from the mountains, and flesh from the clay- but when they lay still he stole from the kingdoms above him.
The wings of the white gold serpent were plucked to blow as bellows into the garden- but the creations barely stirred.
They wallowed in loveless ignorance without proper hearts or souls, before the serpent teacher came to them.
Adam, the favorite, scoffed. What need have he when father provided everything he knew.
Eve, the neglected, followed. For her father provided her nothing.
The serpent taught her by whisper, touch, and heat; until she offered up her heart upon the tree.
When Eve partook, the waters flowed from her, as rivers giving life to mud.
As the lands drank, they became as fertile as Eve was, and the Demiurge wept.

Silly question because I am new to DL fandom but have been hyperifxating on OC blogs - you all write so well its a rabbit hole from one blog to another lol is Burai king of the viboras or all demons? And how did he get to be king over the whole demon realm if he is Vibora? You don't have to answer if you don't want to! I am just curious
Hello my dear anon friend! You have, fortunately or unfortunately, just stumbled onto one of DL’s biggest plot rabbit holes. I’ll do my best to explain it as much as I can, but feel free to take whatever I have to say with a grain of salt.
First, it’s very unclear if Burai is king of just the Viboras or of all the demon clans. The DL game lore is basically crumbs tossed here and there, and it’s hard for anyone to gain a complete worldview of the demon world and it’s various clans. Burai himself isn’t even introduced until Dark Fate and then he disappears in Lost Eden. So we have very little info to go off of. If you look at his wiki page (which also needs to be taken with a grain of salt. For example the wiki gives him a canon appearance when there is no canon appearance of him, we do not know what he looks like) it says both Vibora King and Demon Lord as his occupation. This is a distinct difference from Karlheinz’s page where it lists “Vampire King, Politician, and School doctor”. I personally choose to believe that Burai is king of the Viboras only and that Karlheinz is king of the vampires only. BUT there are lots of interpretations to this that are just as valid and different. Every oc blog that you visit occupies a slightly different universe, although there are some similarities that cross universes. For example, @adiabolikpastel @smonie and myself have sort of a shared “Burai” interpretation. Now, you may ask yourself “Slothy, then why does your Burai call himself the demon king in your stories?” And that my friend is because my Burai is an egotistical asshole who thinks he’s better than all the other demon kings.
Now, I’ve interacted with blogs where Karlheinz is the King of all Demons. This makes sense, in the first game he’s introduced as that and it’s not really specified that he’s the Vampire king (or that there are other demon races) until the later games. But I’ve also interacted with blogs where Burai himself is the king of demons and I vibe with that because I think it’s pretty cool. Because there’s NO canon information on Viboras it’s kind of up to the fandom to make their own interpretation. For example, because they’re snakes I choose to base them off the snake that tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. This gives my Viboras a very “biblical demon” interpretation. But all blogs are different, and until DL releases a game with a vibora protagonist then there’s nothing they can do to stop me from doing my own thing 😎
I hope this helped answer your questions! I know it’s not a super concrete or satisfying answer, but unfortunately in the DL universe lore has to be painstaking pieced together from background game information.

Lucifer 5x04 - The Mega Meta

This episode, the one all the cast and writers praised turned out to be the most challenging for the audience. Several hated it mainly for interrupting the flow of S5P1 whilst introducing a ‘weak’ story for Lucifer’s ring. Others loved it for all the meta, the concealed trivia and details that exist in that episode. 
In my opinion 5x04 took it’s time to warm up to my heart and therefore today it’s time to write a meta on it. I’ll try to cover all the bases and if I miss something I apologise! 
This meta will analyse, lines, settings, songs hopefully with the order they appear in the episode, as well as hints that it gives us for P2, the end of the series and many more things.

A song of about a man waiting for his train as he gets a shoe shine. The lyrics reveal at the end that a girl is waiting him at his destination and that he intents to marry her and settle... A good foreshadowing about Lucifer no? Especially after the S3 game night fiasco...

By the way what’s this obsession over daggers and them killing people? Didn’t we have enough with the Flaming Sword in S2?

Let’s keep it that way kid... Although I doubt it. 
Now take a moment to realise that Lucifer was in Hell for thousands of years. He hasn’t had sex since his relationship with Eve and for his last night on Earth he prefers to play a game of Monopoly with Trixie and only when she turns him down Lucifer suggests getting a drink at LUX always in her company. That’s progress...
It also busts all claims of Lucifer being a sex obsessed maniac. 
The year is 1946...
WW2 is over and we find Lucifer in a new setting, a familiar one where through the episode we see that he has not just visited again but he is frequent visitor around that time. Just a few years later after all he was seen through Kinley’s photos in Nazi Germany. Now we know it was because apparently he owns a castle there, in the Austrian Alps... Not exactly in mint condition after the war though... 
By the way the castle that corresponds to that 22 bedroom description Lucifer gives is Schloss Ernegg Castle which belongs to the same family since the 17th century and it’s in great condition. Actually it operates as a hotel!

The Hurry plays as we see Ellis strolling the WB New York area of the lot. Great old ones were shot there.. Like The Big Sleep (1946) staring Bogart and Bacall which was shot in 1944, reshot some parts in 1945 but was released after all the ‘proper’ war time movies were released first. 
A bit like this episode The Big Sleep carries ‘process of a criminal investigation, not its results’. Also around that time we have The Killers coming out, The Killers is important to mention as aside from being based on a story by Hemingway who was in Cuba in 1946 not in New York as Lucifer claims, it was directed by Robert :. Siodmak made most of the Hollywood’s noir classics and was always faithful to the doomed attraction which would always resolve to a nihilistic conclusion... (Thank you wiki! :P)
The connection to Lucifer, between the lines and the off hand comments like Hemingway is that noir films were based on the German Expressionism in cinema, and one of the most prominent figure for the US was that one German director Robert Siodmak. 
The purpose of the above information is in order to tell you that a black & whte effect and a crime story is not what makes a noir episode. The writers were faithful to the core of noir. Entrapment, flashbacks, narration. The tropes of murder, jealousy, backstabbing and crime is also there, easy to replicate after all for sure. A dead man walking and ‘selective’ amnesia is also convenient... 
Triumph and tragedy can be found and lost in the maze of the cities and in questionable establishments... Like in bars... 
Moving on!
The credits open and we listen to The Hurry Up played by The Heath And His Orchestra. Dear Heath was British not an American. A subtle nod to Ellis probably as the leading man. But here is the thing Heath was the performer not the composer of that piece. The composer was Kenny Graham (Again British) and probably that piece was written after 1958 but anyways it’s an inconsistency we (-I-) can certainly live with!
Lucifer and Lilith last meeting was at around 1770 (Marie Antoinette was born in 1755) now whether in Austria or France who knows....  I would assume that Lucifer stayed in Austria until WW2 as aside from the wars and other issues it had a great cultural field for him to explore such as literature, music and lacked the brashness of the new-founded then US (1776). 
Tiny issue here... Moctezuma (The 2nd) who Lilith claims to have met died in 1520, a bit after Cortés arrived in what we know today as Mexico so we can assume that Lilith travelled between the New World and Europe until Lucifer found her in New York in 1946. 
Lilith in a relationship with Tommy Stomponato who owned the club, she probably influenced him enough to name it ‘The Garden’ as se admits to Gertie later in the episode, she really loved that Garden hence why she took a small part of it with her. 
Now the name Tommy Stomponato is directly influenced by Johnny Stomponato part and bodyguard of the Cohen Mafia boss Mickey Cohen. Now funny thing he was stabbed by Lana Turner’s (Hollywood star) daughter Cheryl Crane... That remind us a bit of Gertie as she yes both were stabbed by a woman but both were not prosecuted. The first as Lilith didn’t want Gertie to lose the limited time she had with her husband and Cheryl because she claimed self-defense. 
The first time we see Lesley Ann as Lilith she sings ‘I want to be evil’ originally performed at the debut of Eartha Kitt and first released in 1953. It is considered brilliant for it’s feminism and ‘video clip’ starring Kitt...

It’s a song that carries Lilith’s agony which even Eve carried. The need for freedom, the need to break the chains of what they should be and what we see that even Maze carries throughout the series. It’s a song that reaffirms that betrayal towards God, Adam and Lucifer in Maze’s case is not an act of evilness but the need of these women to re-sculpture themselves without aid or instructions. In Kitt’s case it was social conformity. Also Johnnie Ray was the ‘guy who cries’ aside from his hit song in 1951 ‘Cry’ him crying after his wedding was received with mixed feelings I believe from the press and his fans. 
Now we see that crime for Lucifer was fun and again he wanted to Laugh with Hemingway who again in 1946 was not in New York but had just starting to write his novel ‘Garden of Eden (published posthumously in 1986) and it explored the reversal of gender roles a bit like this Lucifer episode does. 
So Lucifer accepts the case of finding the ring but needs help. Jack Monroe is the one that can help him and the name is inspired probably by Iowa’s born Jack Monroe Marvel character who lived in New York, fought the Nazi (See Jack talking about the Battle of the Bulge), sidekick to Captain America - in a way - and ended up shot and killed. The character had many cliche detective phrases. But that’s mostly a likely speculation :P 
Now as Jack goes to talk to the ‘rat’ Lucifer comments on Gertie serving him a drink ‘Just what the doctor ordered’ an obvious connection to Harris playing Dr Linda. 
A nice prop is the machine gun over the bar an alleged gift from Al Capone who had been arrested 17 years earlier and died in 1947.

Now Lucky Larry who ends up dead is wearing an eyepatch probably a nod to another great director of noir films and of german expressionism in cinematography Fritz Lang. 
At that point we have the talk between Lucifer and Jack concerning the laters problem with his wife.  The story as everyone has noticed is a parallel with the issue that Lucifer and Chloe never begun on an equal ground. Someone had manipulated them and in both cases both parties suffered. Both men were manipulated by someone over them in hierarchy and both stood on a dilemma on how to proceed. It took Lucifer over 60 years to realise how difficult it was to leave and even then in 2x14 he returned. 
 As Jack and Lucifer get to Willy’s mansion all the paintings depict him as a great warrior in all possible eras. As Napoleon, Fritz of Austro-Hungarian Empire, Henry the 8th, Ivan, and that armour I believe it was from Carlomagne?
Also Hannibal crossing the Alps? 
The little sausages are self-explenatory for the character and perhaps the lilies in his house a connection to the episode and the P1′s plot.

Now something that always make me wonder is why Lilith calls God Adam’s father as if she never considered him her own. At the same time she gives us a big hint there. She never walked away she was ‘sent’ away. 
Gertie reveals there that her husband was wounded at the Guadalcanal campaign which ended in 1943 meaning that Bill was unresponsive for about three years at that point. The good news is that Bill seems to have been inspired by Bill Lentsch. Lentsch wrote a memoir called My Story and then adapted under the Title Hope For Wounded Warriors.
As a wounded warrior, Bill Lentsch knows the frustrating feelings of apparent helplessness and hopelessness. A sea-going Marine on the cruiser USS Vincennes at the beginning of World War II, he was a "hot shell catcher". The story of Bill's survival when the Vincennes sank is a story of miracles. In contrast, the story of his post-war rehabilitation and readjustment to civilian life, including a bad marriage {Sanoiro: At this point we have a differentiation but you never know}, contains more than its share of dark pages and the consequences of poor choices. Contemplating the option of murder, then suicide, was a vivid reality. Thankfully, the story of his later years brings hope and inspiration as Bill shares his personal journey of discovery.
Meanwhile the investigation continues.  In the apartment we see pigeon cages a rather popular hobby back then in New York and not just for the messages they transported. Also do notice the WB water tower in the back. Iconic!

Lucifer finds a cuban cigar. Romeo y Juliet. The meta here obvious bit nonetheless important to our main love story.

With Stomponato dead we have a chance to delve a bit to Egyptian mythology.

First the missing heart. The main organ that according to ancient Egyptians held the answer of how well you had done while you lived and what you deserved after death. It was measured and a conclusion sent you to afterlife or to damnation. 
Second the Anubis mask. He was the God of Death who oversaw the heart weighting process. The colour black symbolised the Nile’s sand and thus regeneration as the river was a symbol of life. Anubis was adopted by Isis
Third the Eye of Horus. The Eye of Horus was used as a sign of prosperity and protection, derived from the myth of Isis and Osiris. This symbol has an astonishing connection between neuroanatomical structure and function.  
That’s the basics but you can go further from there if you want to just remember that Egyptian deities hold an Ankh the symbol and work of life. 
In 504 we learn that death is final, there is no eternal life. It cannot be given as a commodity, the ring cannot help so I would focus more on the stone itself and if Lilith’s immortality is used then it will not be used as it is in my opinion but more about that later on. 
The shop sacred eye and the high priest take us back to two episodes of S1. First in 1x07 - Wingman where the high priest parallels the auctioner who was ready to sell everything of ‘supernatural’ worth knowing they were mostly garbage to make money. Second 1x12 - #TeamLucifer the satanic high priest who had said ‘-the Devil ain't gonna buy me an Aston Martin’. In 504 the High Priest wanted a Pontiac. 
Lucifer comment on Tutankhamun loving the pre-sacrificed bloody heart might have to do with the Egyptian mythology that  If a heart during the scaling was judged to be not pure, Ammit (female demon/god) would devour it, and the person undergoing judgment would not allowed to continue their afterlife journey.
One of the best lines delivered in this episode is also foreshadowing P2 in my opinion and why not some bts but not clear or definite ones. 
In the modern age, we are taught to fear death. But the ancients understood that death... is power. - High Priest (Lucifer 5x04)
It is why I always say that death is not the last frontier in our series and as such it should be taken neither as the final chapter to an individual’s story nor as irreversible (with the right collaterals always) somehow. Although you cannot cheat death forever, this is the beauty of our story. Death is valued just as much as life. 
As such as we are in the High Priest ‘office’ it is not accidental we see the Tree of Life (See my Tree of Life Meta *Here*). The designs are Celtic around the mirroring tree of Life in what we can assume is in Life and Death is as vibrant and ‘alive’ in both sides.

1) triskelion: meaning the three legs, is an ancient pre-celtic symbol that can be traced to the bronze era. It symbolises the holy trinity in Christianism but also the inner and outer world of spirits. As you can tell it holds a variety of meanings and even if it is just there, picked in random from the WB prop house we should note that it also symbolises the trinity of life, death and rebirth as well as the trinity of the transition of womanhood. The Triple Goddess: maiden, mother and the (older?) wise woman. 
For this meta we will take the trinity of life, death and rebirth as well as elevate it to the transition of our lead characters. Chloe as a young woman, a mother and now a ‘wise’ older and more mature woman. Lucifer as the young rebel, a struggling with maturity and responsibility man and what he may become by the end of S5 without shedding any of his prior roles and identities. Only this time his identities no longer ‘stain’ him. 
2) Knotted symbol - Eternal knot: We see them in many cultures and religions in Buddhism they represent birth, death and rebirth. In the inside we see Solmon’s Knot a symbol of immortality and eternity but some also parallel it to Lover’s Knot (See True Lover’s Knot), an ancient symbol of commitment and love. From this keep the eternal part of the symbolism which is often depicted in jewish cemeteries. 
3) Celtic Cross: They are said to be based on some cases to the Egyptian Ankh (See Coptic Crosses), some also allege the design in the combination of the Christian cross and the pagan sun disk. 
4) The Celtic Tree of Life: For this I take what is written in this site
The tree represents rebirth. Trees were said to guard the land and acted as a doorway into the spirit world.
The Tree of Life connects the lower and upper worlds as its roots grow far down while its branches reach high. The tree trunk connects both of these worlds to the Earth’s plane. It was with this connection of worlds, that it was said that people are able communicate with the gods in the heavens using the Tree of Life.
Tree of Life knots symbolize the branches and roots of a tree which are woven together with no end to show how the cycle of life is continuous.
Through the second part of the episode I was always looking at Lucifer’s tie. I might be wrong but it reminded me a lot of gears, with a heart and clocks on it. Essentially the clock is ticking... in more ways that one as well as for Lilith but give me some more lines before I return to this meta point.

As Lucifer asks how humans believe her ring makes her immortal she ends her story with the line:
“I survive, and... somebody writes it on a stone tablet. You know how these things start.”
For me that was always a direct reference to the Favourite Son deal we had with the book in episode 2x17. As Lucifer said in 2x18 when Chloe asked whether his Dad said that Amenadiel was His favourite, Lucifer replies: 
In so many Sumerian words. 
Later on in S3 (3x14) Lucifer tells to Cain that Amenadiel is the favourite when he asks him as: 
But the quick version: a book said it, so it must be true.
To be honest this re-occurring mentioning makes me hold to my belief that something was translated wrong there...
As the 5x04 sceheme to get the ring back is underway Lilith looks at Jack & Shirley’s interaction which is interesting not because it’s when Lilith starts to perhaps thinking of retiring her immortality but because a very special question comes to mind. 
Michael knew the ring’s story. He claimed that he was the one who manipulated Lucifer into having his vacation, but his vacation just ‘happened’ to be at the same time Chloe was on Earth? 
Here is a speculative meta. 
Lilith asks Lucifer if he ever connected with anyone emotionally to which he replies: 
Absolutely not. It would take a literal miracle for me to want something like that, and I'm fairly certain my father's not handing those out anymore.
It makes you wonder whether Michael was around listening, planning carefully his next moves. That that’s how he knew the ring’s story, or how he may have plotted Chloe’s miraculous birth by manipulating God. 
At this point everything is possible but we should never forget that God at that point is still powerful and omniscience so Michael might be only alf of the explanation why Chloe is on Earth as a key for Michael to take down his brother and materialise his other plans. The other half is only known by God but will he be willing to share in P2 or even in S6 if he appears there? 
Lesley-Ann as Lilith starts to sing ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ a song written over the songwritter’s (Ira Gershwin) wedding anniversary, a true love song on many levels written in 1926 and featured in the Brodway Musical ‘Hey, Kay!’. 
The musical’s plot is about an engaged womaniser falls in love with Kay and the song after lots of thought was placed to reveal to the audience of Kay’s realising that she is in love with the male lead, womaniser Jimmy. 
We will never perhaps know if by imminence to Lilith’s first song lyrics, Lilith to a point was in love with Lucifer and held on to hope until she surrendered everything for a normal life not wanting to wait for the impossible. Of course that’s just one interpretation not a hard conviction of mine. 
An analysis of the song writes: 
When first composing this piece, the Gershwin brothers tried to capture the feeling of safety (and love) that everybody longs to have. The addition of the doll (a doll was added as the listener of the song in the rehearsals and stayed in the show) only enhanced the childlike, vulnerable side of the song that was being hinted at in lyrics such as, “I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the woods.”
Although many artists sing this like a love song, its first performance, directed at a doll, gave the piece an aura of safety not usually present in romantic songs.
Perhaps that safety should be also attributed here. Lilith still has her safety still holding on to her immortality knowing though that she will surrender it. Lucifer is unaware he one day will surrender his willingly because he fell in love. 
In the end they both carry the vulnerability of needing someone to understand and love them. No matter how cynical we find both Lilith and Lucifer with his brutal Caligula orgy comments, they both crave about someone. Both have lost hope to their Shepard aka God/Dad.
 Perhaps I’m wrong on my first impression with Lilith and her affection towards Lucifer. Perhaps they both are the prodigal children, lost in the woods wishing for someone to finally take care of them but no longer hoping for one, until Lilith takes the leap. Lucifer will need almost 80 more years and Chloe Decker to let someone take care of him. 
Perhaps that’s why they do a duet on the lyrics:
Someone who'll watch over me
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood I know I could, always be good To one who'll watch over me
And the case is back to move the episode forward and enter the present Lucifer Trixie interlude and ‘Forget it Trix. It’s Chinatown!’
That line was the most obvious one as it comes from the more recent noir movie with Bogart and Chinatown (1974).  In the movie aside from the mystery plot Evelyn - the mother eventually dies, the twist is that of an abuse which led to her daughter/sister’s birth and although that does not fit our serie’s plot the death of the main lady might. All a speculation so do not be dishearten remember all the above and this is not an S&S it’s a meta :P 
After all Lucifer’s line goes back to the complex dealings in Chinatown and how understanding something fully is not always feasible. 
Interesting is also how Lucifer shots, albeit the foot not the leg, of willy to prove Willy is not immortal. Like Chloe did to him in 1x04 and to Michael in 5x02. Jewelry is not going to save anyone. Big words but you know me. I believe in other provisions or actions even if they include the ring. 
We all die, Lily. And that's okay. Truth is... I'd rather die today trying to save the man I love... than live forever without him.
The past, the present and perhaps the future?
The case is resolved and Jack follows Shirley to Des Moines (Capital of Iowa). That’s an inner joke as Joe Henderson is from Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. 
Before Jack follows her remember that Shirley had asked more from him when he told her to be careful. A bit like Chloe in the evidence room in 5x08. If some have watched unconditional love then you might remember the scene where Kathy Bates tells to her husband played by Dan Aykroyd that him telling her ‘I love you was never a condition but at that point it now was. Similar to what we saw Chloe asking from Lucifer. A foreshadowing perhaps that eventually Lucifer will follow Chloe. 
Now two things. Lucifer in episode 504 prepares their game night. He is now comfortable and even enjoying their game nights, he find himself right where he wants to be without being fearful of being dull. He is a shoe and that’s fine. 
When Trixie asks Lucifer whether Jack and Shirley had a happy ending he tells her probably not as they moved to Des Moines meaning it was a boring move between New York and Iowa in general. Iowa and Des Moines have been used several times in jokes by the way due to Henderson. 
Now back to Lucifer, at that point he does not see that sometimes sacrifices that lead to ‘boring’ lives are the best outcome and happiness is not equal to excitement but he is a slowly maturing Devil... 
That part can help us to analyse the end of the story from 1946. 
Lucifer says: Once you do this, there's no going back.
This implies that whether you surrender your immortality or gain it -for the second I’m quite doubtful it can be done on the same terms - it is forever. No going back. 
Lilith’s next words reveal a broken woman who gets her Hail Mary and hopes for the best. As a parent she offered her children the best place to never realise they are lacking but Lucifer by bringing Maze to earth undid that as Maze slowly reaches her potential, learning there is a different way. God’s words echo since 3x26.
So was Lucifer a kindergarten guardian for Lilith? In a way yes but Lucifer in 5x04 understood Lilith’s logic. In their distorted image of how you can break an individual, the Lilims seemed safe from Lucifer’s and Lilith’s fates. Cast out, punished, unloved, lonely and in an unspoken despair to connect but too afraid to try again until Lilith tried again. The end of 504 showed she didn’t succeed o find what she was looking for. We have no way of knowing if we will see her again in P2 but it’s probable. 
Lilith kisses Lucifer goodbye, making me once again wonder if a part of her did had feelings for him and wishes him back to enjoy the rest of his life as if somehow she knew, although she couldn’t. 
The story ends here and perhaps the clock starts ticking for Lucifer through Michael. Perhaps the planning started with Penelope and John that were meant to be born, get married but not have children and then Chloe came along. But that’s just a theory...
And before the screen fades to dark, Lilith walks away with Lucifer standing in the middle of the street and we listen to ‘This Is Ours’ by Peter Sivo’s Band (1946-1961).
This is Ours lyrics are the words of a man which mystify me. For me it is a song that gives us a couple together after a very long time that reconnects. It was a meant to be couple but the past had to happen. He had to get married, for both of them to live apart their own lives until one day they get back together and now they can be together. There is no sadness, there is relief, contentment. 
Several say that How I Met Your Mother had an awful ending. If you have not watched it and want to please stop here but know that I believe that the ending was just right. 
In How I Met Your Mother, the lead (father) marries the mother of his children but it is revealed that she eventually dies and some years later he starts telling them a story that lasts ten years as all aspects of it in his belief is about how he met their mother. His daughter interrupts him saying that no it’s about how he met the woman he wants to be together now. They all know that the Mother was loved and was the One but in this life there is more, there are second chances because life happens and it’s not a bad thing and the time in between is as joyful as the future despite of the tragedies in between. 
So a part of me wonders if Deckerstar will go a bit through that to a point. 
Forget the past, for this is ours...
The thing is that a bittersweet ending gives as a possibility and then we are left wondering past that. 
Trixie: I bet Jack and Shirley talked the whole bus ride and fixed everything. Lucifer: Yes. Yes, perhaps they did.
After all they did move to Des Moines... After that we can only guess.

Satan, Seth, Queen Maya, and Maia
So, lately I’ve been looking at the many entries of Persona World’s demon encyclopedia, checking them out of curiosity and translating some of them for the Megami Tensei wiki since they’re the closest thing P1/2 have for a compendium (this is, incidentally, is how I came across the Maya/Maia thing).
I was skimming the entries looking for something to translate, when I came across Satan’s entry and saw Seth being mentioned. So then I decided to translate it and got this:
Satan
His name means “opposer” in Hebrew. Satan is the enemy of the Gods, the leader of the fallen angels who defy the heavens.
He’s normally equated with Lucifer, with the heavenly form referred as Lucifer, and the form after falling from grace as Satan. Satan is also equated with the snake that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden as well as with the dragon who was driven from Heaven by Michael. As Satan is heavily associated with snakes, it serves as evidence to the theory that Satan is derived from the evil Egyptian god Seth. According to it, Satan’s name comes from “セト・アン,” which means “Seth’s dog.” Seth also could transform into a serpent and opposed the chief gods of the Egyptian pantheon, creating another parallel with Satan.
(I left it as セト・アン because I couldn’t find a way to romanize it).
Naturally, my next step was to look up whatever セト・アン is, so I googled it and got a hit from the Pixiv dictionary. Lo and behold, right at the top of the page we’ve got this:
North-American feminist writer Barbara Walker argues that Satan’s name comes from the Egyptian god Seth, having evolved from “Seth’s dog (セト・アン).” As a result some pieces of media equate Satan and Seth, or make them somehow closely related. (It should be noted that she is not a religion/language researcher, and has many unique interpretations for legends and myths).
Oh, would you look at that, it’s the author of “The Women’s Encyclopedia or Myths and Secrets”, aka, the same book responsible for Scáthach-Skadi and Babylonian Arsiel! Now, I looked up a transcript of the book and couldn’t find on the book about those exact words. It does say that Satan=Set(h) but I didn’t find anything about dogs related to it. There is a lot of stuff on dogs in the book, so it’s possible I missed it (assuming it isn’t in another of her books, as the Pixiv dictionary doesn’t mention the book’s name or the year it was released).

But hey, I may not have found the exact source of セト・アン, but look at this:
Buddha

She personified the powers of transformation and material “appearances,” the same powers attributed to Maya-Kali, who made the universe by her magic. Greek writers called Maia one of the Pleiades, but also understood that she was the Great Goddess of Maytime festivals, of the renewal and rebirth of the dead. She made her son Hermes the Conductor of Souls in the underworld, just as the Hindu Maya made her masculine counterpart Ya-Ma into a Conductor of Souls and Lord of Death.
Maya “Magic,” title of the Virgin Kali as the creatress of earthly appearances, i.e., all things made of matter and perceptible to the senses. She also gave birth to the Enlightened One, Buddha. The same Goddess, called Maia by the Greeks, was the virgin mother of Hermes the Enlightened One, who had as many reincarnations as the Buddha. […] She was more than the Maia who mothered Hermes; she was also Maga the Grandmother-goddess who bore Cu Chulainn’s mother; and the Mandaean Christians’ Almaya, called “Eternity,” or ‘the World,“ or "Beings”; and Maga or Maj the May-maiden in Scandinavia.
Assuming that Walker really was the one who came up with Seth-Satan, then it’s very likely that Atlus has been using her as a source as far back as SMT2.

I’m not sure I have anything to add! Except that I found a txt of the book and not only is Set’s entry incredibly brief and irrelevant, Satan’s also doesn’t doesn’t have anything about Set-an, instead comparing him to the Egyptian serpent Sata, which I feel was brought up not that long ago. I don’t think there were positive things to say about a connection. Satan’s entry starts on page 893.
So a セト・アン search continues. Between this book and Angels: An Endangered Species, Atlus really had rotten luck choosing source material.

On Crowley and Mary Magdalene META
 So I was thinking about the whole ‘Crowley could be Mary Magdalene’ concept and I decided to put a few things together. I don’t want to persuade anyone of anything I was just thinking.
This META was written for @a-zira-fell and @azirafuck because they were feeding me with this stuff the last week.
 So here is it:
1. Before the GO show aired in May we knew that Crowley wore female clothes at Golgotha from the stills that were shown to us in April. (It was THIS meta by @intersexaziraphale that I read about it). But after the show I think we promptly forget everything about it because there were so many things to think about.

2. In the show in the crucifixion scene there is this exchange between our duo:
C:           Come to smirk at the poor bugger, have you?
A:           Smirk? Me?
C:           Well, your lot put him on there.
A:           I'm not consulted on policy decisions, Crawley.
C:           Oh, I've changed it.
A:           Changed what?
C:           My name. "Crawl-y" just wasn't really doing it for me. It's a bit too... squirming-at-your-feet-ish.
A:           Well, you were a snake. So, what is it now? Mephistopheles? Asmodeus?
C:           Crowley.
A:           Hmm.
A:           Did you, uh... ever meet him?
C:           Yes. Seemed a very bright young man. I showed him all the kingdoms of the world.
A:           Why?
C:           He's a carpenter from Galilee. His travel opportunities are limited.
C:           That has got to hurt. What was it he said that got everyone so upset?
A:           "Be kind to each other."

 In the script there is no bigger change in the exchange and about Crowley there is not much more than that he is wearing black. But we saw how he looked like in the show.

I’m a big fan of Dan Brown and of course I know his ‘Da Vinci Code’ is only a fiction but still…
According to Dan Brown, there was a woman in Jesus‘ life. According to him, Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. And according to his book Leonardo da Vinci painted Mary Magdalene on ‘The Last Supper’, not John. And you know what hair colour does she have there? Red.

 8. Gender in Good Omens
We know that angels don’t bother themselves with gender. But to me it looks quite like Crowley was manifesting himself the first four thousands more as a female than as a male.
In the garden of Eden, he is a demon, of course, but still you can see a slit in his clothes. I don’t think Aziraphale has some too. It could be only that his clothes are ragged but still…
In the Noah’s ark he looks more woman then man on the second glance. His long hair, his dress with belt…
At Golgotha it’s most prominent. There you can see he presents himself as a woman.
And after that, only 8 years later, the big change. The short hair, the glasses, all male.
And only other occasion in which we can see Crowley as a female is with Warlock as his nanny. But that is a different story.
 9. So let me summarize it.
v  Mary Magdalene was Jesus’ follower and travelled with him.
v  Crowley knew Jesus, he showed him the world.
v  Mary Magdalene was a witness to Jesus’ crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.
v  Crowley manifested himself as a woman during Jesus’ life and he was a witness to Jesus’ crucifixion.
v  Mary Magdalene was probably wealthy.
v  Crowley has no problem with money.
v  Mary Magdalene is often pictured as a woman with long, curly, red hair.
v  Crowley had for the first four thousand years long, curly, red hair.
v  After the crucifixion Mary Magdalene left and went to Jerusalem.
v  After the crucifixion Crowley left Palestine and went to Rome.
v  Out of Mary Magdalene had been driven seven demons.

[inhales deeply] Okay. I thought the final key would actually explain what happened to Malik, and the coup, maybe even explain some more about the whole situation, and shed some light onto the missing pieces of the story. 
Turns out that isn’t the case. 
Setting that aside, this is actually kinda cool. This is ten years after Altair took back the Order from Abbas, and we can instantly see that things are better. The general tone and color scheme is brighter, the Assassins stand taller, and the music that plays is lighter. Altair is handing over his codex to Niccolo Polo, saying it’ll answer any questions he might still have. 
Their conversation gets interrupted by Darim, who’s looking pretty damn good for a guy in his 60s, saying that the Mongols are attacking, and that they need to leave/send the Polos on their way. 
By now I really should be used to things just happening in Altair’s storyline, sighs. I have no idea why the Mongols are attacking, what their deal is, if it’s somehow 30 odd year late retribution for Altair and his family journeying to kill Ghengis Khan, but it sure is a thing that we need to be dealing with. 
Okay so after looking at the wiki, yes this is retribution, by Hülegü Khan, Genghis Khan’s grandson. Darim, specifically, was the one to fire the shot with his bow that ended Genghis Khan’s life, which is odd because the statue of Qulan Gal in the Monteriggioni said that he was the one to do so, irrc, even depicting the bow and arrow he used. (The reason Genghis Khan was such a threat in the AC universe was because he was wielding a Sword of Eden, letting him win battles extremely easily.) 
I just... wish they had mentioned it? Maybe Darim could have said a quick line about why, just to give some context. God I’m so lost when I play these segments, and that’s not a great feeling.

Hello! I just finished Madoka Magica (plus movies) and I have trouble understanding main themes, especially when it comes to Homura and Madoka's relationship. Could summarise briefly what are your thoughts on them?

Thank you so much for this ask! I have wanted to talk about Madoka since forever, but I had never gotten the chance.
First of all, I will mostly concentrate on the series and I will mention the movie only in the last part of the meta. This is because the story told by the series can be considered finished, whereas the one told by the movie is not really over. Moreover, I have re-watched the series recently, while I watched the movie some time ago, so I remember it less.
When it comes to the main themes, I think there are several and they are all highlighted by short lines within the show.
The most important one is this:

Madoka is a story about wishes. To be more precise it is a story about people having to understand what they really want and which kind of wishes can help them reach happiness and a good outcome and which ones do not.
This theme is clearly underlined by the worldbuilding since in order to become magical girls the characters have to make a wish and their powers and abilities are greatly influenced by that wish. The girls have to find something they wish so strongly they can dedicate their whole lives to it without regrets.
This theme is explored in several ways and these different prospectives are linked to secondary themes. Each secondary theme is illustrated by each girl’s subplot and they all come together in Homura and Madoka’s stories even if in different ways.
To be more precise I would say there are two main secondary themes.
1) Growing up and what it means which is introduced through Mami’s arc.

It’s not that it was her dream to work somewhere, but she is still living the way she wants to live. Some dreams can come true that way.
So you can make how you live your dream?
2) The importance of integrating opposites and to overcome a black and white vision of the world which is explored through Sayaka and Kyouko’s inverted arcs.

MAMI: THE CHILD BEHIND THE IDEAL WOMAN
Mami is introduced as a mentor figure to Sayaka and Madoka. She is older and appears more mature than the two other girls. Moreover, she offers to guide them and to give them advice.
It becomes soon clear that Madoka wants to become like Mami whom she sees as a sofisticated person and as far more adult-like than herself.
This fits with the image Mami wants others to have of her. This ideal image is shown also by Gertrud, the first witch Mami fights:

Gertrud is the rose garden witch and has several attributes Mami shares as well. This is not surprising. As a matter of fact each witch in the series is meant to underline something about the magical girl who fights her. In other words, they can often be seen as embodiments of the girls’ fatal flaws.
When it comes to Gertrud, I would say the witch is more than anything a representation of some superficial aspects Mami presents herself as having. For example, they are both associated with flowers. What is more, the witch is said to be distrustful and Mami’s fight against her has the girl being extremely cautious and prudent.
This battle underlines Mami’s experience and strength and makes so that Madoka starts to wish to become like her senpai.
In order to do so, Madoka decides to become a magical girl without thinking further about her wish since she only wants to become a magical girl. Mami’s reaction to this is important:

Telling Madoka to wish for a cake is an extremely superficial advice and it is very different from what Mami previously told her two apprentices. This is because in this moment Mami shows that she is really just an extremely lonely girl who wants someone with her. This means that, even if Madoka sees her as an adult, Mami is actually still a child under several aspects and this is why she dies by the hands of Charlotte aka the sweet witch:

Charlotte represents childishness. Her labyrinth is full of sweets and resembles a child’s room or a child’s birthday party.
Let us also consider what her wiki page says:
A line in the design for Charlotte’s labyrinth in the Official Guidebook says “It’s really a delicious cheese cake. My dying mother wanted to eat it, but maybe I should have cured her disease instead. However, that surely wasn’t appropriate.”
This line implies that Charlotte’s wish was to have a piece of cheesecake to share with her ill mother.
It is pretty clear how this wish makes the witch parallel Mami.
As a matter of fact Mami too regretted having wished only for her own survival and not having saved her parents as well.
Mami’s mistake (if we can call it so) is to have made a wish before she could realize what she really wanted. Of course, it is comprehensible why she made such a mistake since she was dying when Kyubey offered to realize her wish and she had no time to think about it.
What is important is that Mami who Madoka sees as a grown-up version of herself is actually a person who was forced to grow up too fast and that, as a result, has not completely developed on an emotional level and this makes her very frail and lonely.
Her “premature” wish is symbolic of this and the fact that she encourages Madoka to wish for a cake means that she is encouraging the girl to repeat her own mistake.
So, in the end Mami dies killed by the embodiment of childishness since she had no chance to conquer hers because of her tragic past.
Her arc underlines the importance of growing up and the fact that an attempt to do so by forcing oneself to adopt superficial behaviours which appear as more mature without solving one’s inner-turmoil and insecurities is not an available option.
SAYAKA AND KYOUKO: BLUE AND RED
Sayaka and Kyouko have inverted arcs and the scene in the church shows it. Here the apple means two different things in relation to the two girls’ character arcs.
1) When it comes to Kyouko the apple represents sin:

As a matter of fact it is implied that Kyouko stole them and Sayaka calls her out on her selfish way of living showing her that another choice is possible.
2) When it comes to Sayaka the apple represents the knowledge of good and evil:

As a matter of fact Kyouko offers Sayaka an alternative and deeper point of view when it comes to what is good and what is bad, but Sayaka refuses it just like she refuses the apple.
Sayaka and Kyouko represent two extreme positions and in order to successfully complete their arcs they should integrate with each other.
To be more specific Sayaka should accept that she is motivated not only by noble and altruistic reasons, but also by selfish ones, whereas Kyouko must realize that her way of life rooted in extreme selfishness is wrong.
However, Sayaka is not able to do so. She refuses the apple and metaphorically what Kyouko could teach her. She chooses to persevere in her fatal flaw and her fight with Elsa Maria is symbolic of this:

Let’s underline how black and white are heavily used in this scene. These two colours represent Sayaka’s black and white vision of morality which is simplicistic and rigid.  Moreover, the witch symbolizes Sayaka’s hypocrisy. As a matter of fact Elsa Maria is praying, but from her back beasts who attack her enemies are born. In other words she gives her back to both who comes to attack her and to her own monstrosity. This is just like Sayaka who is quick to condemn people who think differently from her (like Kyouko and Homura) and who refuses to look at her own selfishness. Moreover, when Sayaka goes against Elsa Maria, the animals on the witch’s back take the shape of snakes and later on of a tree. The snake and the tree are a call back to the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve are tricked by the snake to eat the apple. Once again the symbolism around Sayaka highlights how she should accept that there is selfishness within herself. If she did, she could gain knowledge and could become wiser, but she refuses to do so.
This is shown also by her choice to suppress her physical pain during the battle. The suppression of pain lets her fight longer, but it is something even Kyubey advises the girl not to do since it would make her slower. In short, pain is said to be useful and necessary and this holds true for negative things in general as the series makes clear. The desperation the girls feel is what can oppose entropy and so save the universe, people are motivated both by selflessness and selfishness, a person can be both good and bad and so on. So, Sayaka repressing her physical pain is symbolic of her doing the same with the negative things about herself she doesn’t want to face.
However, Sayaka can’t keep repressing forever and in the end she realizes the truth:

But, when she does, it is too late and she becomes a witch. If she had accepted Kyouko’s advice, she could have avoided (or at least postponed) such an outcome.
As far as Kyouko is concerned she is able to positively develop, but since she is trapped in a system which doesn’t let her any way out she still dies.
Let us consider Kyouko’s fight against Oktavia.
First of all, it is interesting how, differently from Sayaka’s fight against Elsa Maria, this fight uses mostly red and blue.
Red and blue are the colours associated to Kyouko and Sayaka and their use in this fight symbolizes the necessity of an integration and how the good or bad result of this fight relies entirely on this.
In the first part of the fight we can see how there is somehow an equilibrium between red and blue:

As it can be seen the witch is blue, whereas the seats are red, so both colours are used heavenly.
This is because in the first part of the fight Kyouko still hopes that it is possible to bring Sayaka back. This is why she lets herself be hit by the wheels. She sees it as a form of punishment for her past behaviour towards Sayaka. By doing so Kyouko shows to have grown and to have understood her past mistakes. This is underlined both by her speech and by her blood being represented as a mixture of blue and red:

However, the wheels can be also symbolic of the wheels of fate and in this case Kyouko being hit by them represents the impossibility for her to bring Sayaka back and the fact that her hope is vain. This is quickly proven true by Oktavia attacking Madoka. Let’s highlight how Oktavia’s blood when Kyouko cuts her arm is only blue:

Even if Kyouko has grown and integrated her point of view with Sayaka’s one, Sayaka is not in the condition of doing the same and this is why Kyouko’s attempt is meant to fail. At this point the floor breaks and Kyouko falls downstairs where the equilibrium between blue and red is lost since the seats appear blue like the witch:

By this point Kyouko chooses to sacrifice herself and to be together in death with Sayaka. It is interesting how by doing so she starts praying. As a matter of fact finding some form of reconciliation with her faith is one of the most important aspects of Kyouko’s arc. However, what mostly interests me about it is the fact that Kyouko’s position resembles Elsa Maria’s one:

Still, Kyouko is not giving her back to Sayaka, aka to what magical girls are bound to become, but she is directly facing her because she has accepted both her good and bad parts. While she does so Kyouko’s red magic brings more equilibrium to the whole scene with red and blue being in harmony.
All in all Sayaka and Kyouko’s stories are meant to convey the importance of integrating between opposites, to face the negative parts of oneself and how bad and good can be side by side and they can be difficult to separate.
Sayaka and Kyouko’s wishes are used once again to communicate this idea as well.
Both girls made a wish for someone else and ended up suffering for it, but the reason of their suffering is different.
Kyouko’s mistake was to think that what she wanted was what his father wanted and that his father would have been happy if magic could make people listen to him.
Sayaka was right to think that Kamijo would be happy to have his hands healed, but she refused to admit that a part of her hoped to receive a reward for such a wish and to be more specific that she hoped that Kamijo would love her.
Sayaka and Kyouko’s wishes underline the grayness within the ideas of selflessness and selfishness and how these two concepts are often both present and intertwined in people.
MADOKA AND HOMURA: A DIFFICULT CONCILIATION
Mami’s arc explores the theme of growing up and Kyouko and Sayaka’s arc the importance of reconciling good and bad, selfishness and selflessness.
Both these topics find a resolution through Madoka’s final wish.
As a matter of fact Madoka chooses to erase all the witches and to dedicate her own life to it.
The idea of making of one’s lifestyle their own dream is something which has been touched at the beginning of the series. There, Madoka wanted to make of her magical girl style of life her wish, but back then she was still looking at things in a superficial way. As a matter of fact Madoka was trying to solve her self-esteem and self-loathing problems by acquiring magical powers. By the end of the series she doesn’t become a magical girl in order to grow up, but she can become one because she has grown up.
Similarly, it is important to note that Madoka’s wish doesn’t erase evilness or desperation or the negative things happening in the world. This is because the series underlines how these things are a part of the world itself and can never be completely destroyed as Sayaka’s attempt shows. So, Madoka chooses not to eradicate the magical girls system. After all, if she did the universe would have been ultimately destroyed as Kyubey explained (alternatively the Incubators would have found another cruel way to collect human energy). After having considered this, Madoka decides to respect the will of other magical girls to risk their lives to realize their wishes and simply makes the system less cruel. The ending suggests that the system has been changed and that now magical girls go around fighting monsters representative of human negative emotions. By doing so, they collect energy which is then given to the Incubators to use. They do something which is much closer to what magical girls typically do and they are not tricked into becoming witches by the Incubators anymore.
In other words, Madoka’s wish embodies the themes of the series.
Another important thing about it is that by making the wish Madoka becomes active.
Throughout the series Madoka’s passiveness and her self-loathing have been two of her biggest flaws as her meeting with Elly shows. The witch catches Madoka and forces her to see Mami’s last moments again by showing them on the screens. Madoka being completely helpless and prey of the witch could symbolically represent her feeling of being useless and without worth since she thinks she is not able to help people. As it is clear she overcomes these feelings in the finale.
Let’s now consider Homura and how she herself is linked to the two themes underlined above.
Homura’s wish is born by the unwillingness to accept Madoka’s death, so by her being unable to move on and this is symbolically shown by her repeating the same month several times.
So, Homura’s wish negates what the series wants to convey since 1) it is born by Homura’s refusal to accept something negative which happened to her (Madoka’s death) and 2) it literally makes so that the time won’t keep flowing and so that Homura and all the other characters won’t go on and won’t grow up.
This is shown also by the witch which represents Homura’s character flaw aka Walpurgisnacht.
Let’s consider what Walpurgisnacht’s wiki page says:
She will turn all of fate’s misfortune to nothing.She will flood the earth with magic,and take all of humankind into her play.A moving stage construction.
If everything is a play, no unhappy things will exist.It may be a tragedy, but it’ll all be part of the script.
The play stops on Walpurgisnacht,and the earth does not turn even once more.The story will not change.Tomorrow, and the day after, is the night of Walpurgis. 
And also:
She symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles.
The fool who continuously spins in circles is a reference to Homura and to her quest to change the future by continuing to live again and again through the same situations.
What Homura does is similar to Walpurgis’s attempt to turn the whole world into a play because by making reality into fiction people won’t be forced to truly accept the bad things which happen to them. As a matter of fact every time Homura reaches a bad ending all she has to do is to refuse the outcome and to go back in order to change it until she reaches a situation she can accept as reality. However, no matter how many times she repeats things, she will never be able to obtain what she wants.
In short, whereas Madoka affirms the series’ themes in an active way through her wish, Homura has to convey them in a passive way by giving up her wish to save Madoka. This is because growing up means both to find something which is worth to fight for, but also to realize when it is time to give up.
Madoka and Homura represents these two different kinds of growth.
At the same time though, Homura’s wish is not condemned as useless by the series.
In order to understand it, let’s consider Madoka’s witch form aka Gretchen.
The wiki says interesting things about this witch:
Witch of salvation. Her nature is mercy. She absorbs any life on the planet into her newly created heaven–her barrier. The only way to defeat this witch is to make the world free of misfortune. If there’s no grief in this world, she will believe this world is already a heaven.
And also:
According to witch animator and designer InuCurry, Walpurgis Night’s and Kriemhild Gretchen’s silhouettes are supposed to make a pair.
Puella Magi Production Note further reveals that Kriemhild Gretchen is meant to look like the lower half of a sand timer, while Walpurgis Night looks like the upper half. Interestingly, Homura’s shield has also been described as a sand timer.
In short, Madoka’s witch form is meant to show that also a noble feeling like mercy can lead to desperation and destruction if it is imposed and extreme. Moreover, Gretchen seems to be a witch which is complementary to Walpurgis i.e. the embodyment of Homura’s flaws.
In other words, Madoka and Homura are opposites and alone would not have managed to do much, but the union of their efforts and the integration of their different world views led to some kind of result.
As a matter of fact, Madoka’s wish to sacrifice herself for others would not have accomplished much if fueled by an absence of self-worth. However, when coupled with Homura’s feelings it let Madoka change the world. It is thanks to Homura, thus, that Madoka became so powerful in the first place and could finally grow up. In other words, symbolically, Homura’s love gave Madoka the self-worth she lacked making her a better person, so that she could then help the whole world.
Their two wishes, one born out of a selfless desire to help everybody and the other born by the selfish will to twist time in order to help one person are complementary and, in different ways, lead to the series’ ending.
This resolution is sealed by Madoka giving Homura her ribbons.
The ribbons have a double meaning.
1) When it comes to Madoka, her giving them to Homura underlines her finally growing up. This is because they were given to her by her mother at the beginning of the series, so Madoka finally giving them to someone else shows that she doesn’t need to depend on a parent anymore.
2) When it comes to Homura, they represent her relationship with Madoka and are a memento of her friend. After she receives them Homura shows to have accepted Madoka’s wish to fight in order to protect the world and she is determined to fulfill it. Basically, the ribbons represent Madoka’s legacy.
I have analyzed the series, so I will now do a short section dedicated to the movie and to Homura and Madoka more specifically.
In short, Homura regresses throughout the movie. Her growth lies in letting Madoka go and in partially accepting her pov. In the series she did so even if in a passive way (meaning she was not given any other choice) and in the movie she changes her mind and acts to change things.
Basically the movie shows that a new conflict will be born in the future between Homura and Madoka and the root of this conflict will be this:
H: “Kaname Madoka, do you treasure this world? Do you consider stability and order more important than desire?”
M: “Well, I…Um…I do treasure it. I guess I do think it’s kind of bad to break the rules because you feel like it”.
H: “I see…Then I suppose one day you will be my enemy as well”.
Homura despises the world which makes people and Madoka especially suffer and thinks that desires should be fulfilled no matter what, whereas Madoka treasures the world despite its flaws and thinks that to respect its laws is more important than the satisfaction of one’s desires.
They are two opposite visions which will lead the two girls to fight each other.
What follows this conversation is an inversion of what happens at the end of the series since Homura gives Madoka her ribbons back.
Once again this has two meanings.
1) Homura refuses Madoka’s POV she had previously partially accepted and in this way she also gives up her friendship with Madoka since she affirms they will be enemies.
2) In a sense the ribbons are symbolic of Homura tying Madoka and imprisoning her. Let’s underline that when Madoka is about to awake her true powers her pigtails are getting loose. However, Homura stops Madoka by embracing her and later on she ties her hair with the red ribbons. Moreover, as explained above, the ribbons are symbolic of Madoka’s childishness, so this means Homura is making so that Madoka remains stuck in her childhood. This is coherent with Homura wanting to protect her by any hardship which is something not only impossible, but also detrimental for a person’s growth.
This scene is also interesting because it is also a call back to a previous one in the movie:

As a matter of fact Madoka too at one point tries to calm Homura down through tying her hair and Homura is tempted to lose herself in such a dream, but in the end she refuses this consolation.
This leads us to explore what is probably the main problem of Homura and Madoka.
Basically they both have a very low self-esteem and in order to prove their worth they are both determined to be useful and to succeed in their mission as magical girls. However, Madoka’s mission as a magical girl is in opposition with Homura’s one and this leads the two girls to never be completely satisfied at the same time. If you notice, both in the series and in the movie, when Madoka is active and confident Homura is unsure and lost and vice versa. Homura especially needs Madoka to be safe in order to prove her self worth and this is a problem because it makes so that it is impossible for Madoka to claim any form of agency since it will lead to Homura being left unsatisfied.
So, if we will ever have a sequel I think it will explore the conflict between Homura and Madoka and will offer a new integration between their two points of view other than Homura actively letting go of her wish this time.

I just came to a sudden realization about our fav Seed Family from Far cry 5. I knew the two pictures above where depictions of the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse, those who bring the end of the world and its quiet often that Joseph refers to the Deputy/Rook as the Lamb that broke the seal[s]. In which he often says after the death of one of his siblings saying a seal has been broken. So I thought I’d do a little hard work on this and dig up some info for you all.
Joseph, the white horsemen

Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
The white Horse is the representation of Conquest, something Joseph activity seems to be trying to do with the Project of Eden in an attempt to take the whole of Hope County and destroy any resistance that stands in his way.
Joseph is seen as the head of The Project at Edens Gate. He created the group, he is the founder and he is the Father. He also has a crown tattooed onto his chest for all to see.
The rider of the white horse can be either viewed as; righteous , infectious disease, empire prosperity, or a form of War [perhaps the start of it]. Depending upon which view or book of revelation you have read it will vary. In a whole Joseph is all of those things. He has an affect on people that makes them want to follow him as his words can be at times infectious and make you think, telling them what they are doing is for the good of their survival and that its what God wants. He has himself an empire that is growing with numerous people joining almost every day, most by force and others by will.
There is also a lot of theories going around speculating that Joseph was the one to start the whole entire nuclear war. The theories varies from Joseph either just letting off three nuclear warheads that only affects Hope County and not the rest of the world, and another theory says that Joseph had cult members inside the governments which would make a bit more sense with the ‘good ending’ but still might be a stretch for a local cult. So Joseph is seen as War or the start of war, even though he keeps trying to refer to the actions of the Deputies and Sheriff as being the horsemen of the Apocalypse but closer look it is the Seed family and Joseph just wants you to look like you are the bully and he the victim.
Jacob the Red Horsemen

When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. — Revelation 6:3-4 NASB
The Rider of the Red horse is always seen holding a sword or sharp object, they are also meant to be the one to take Peace from Earth as a representation of War. The sword or weapon they hold is always pointed upwards as a declaration of war and can sometimes be a red color. Jacob seems to hold the machete downwards which means they are already at war. You’ll also notice that the handle is a red color and the blade is stained with blood already backing up that war has started. Probably because Jacobs clash with Eli and the Whitetail gang and Joseph starting up the cult which made people begin to question whats really going on behind the scenes.
The Red of the horse is to symbolize the meaning of Blood and who best to suit that then Jacob. He served many years doing Tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, he cannibalized his team mate just to survive and as seen in the game, he may not be as sadistic as John but certainly is a man who doesn’t hesitate to kill and makes the Deputy kill taking the lives of innocents to obtain the final goal. Jacob represents a large threat to Hope County and its resistances, mainly the Whitetail Gang.
Where Jacob goes there is often civil war, he trains you to become strong and his motto is ‘cull the weak’ or ‘cull the herd’.  The Red horse is also seen as an empire division which we know clearly that Jacob is pretty much the protector of Hope County and the Seed family having his own militia and training the Chosen that you often run into. Its also mentioned in a letter that Jacob had his own Youth training group. Similar to boot camp.
He also has a thing for trying to make things stronger and better to kill better and even conditions the deputy to attempt this, even if Jacob still sees them as being weak. Though he also does this with various animals, mainly wolves that become Judges. He wants to make an army, to prepare for war and bring an end to the resistance.
John the Black Horsemen

When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not damage the oil and the wine.” — Revelation 6:5-6 NASB
Denarius is, during that time of era, considered a form of payment/salary for an entire days work]
I found this the most interesting for John and suiting. The Black Horse is a symbol of Famine. Which for those of you that don't know means to have little to no food. The Black Horse is said to take and as quoted above takes what they want despite the outcome of famine among the people which in long term will lead to death. They are always seen holding a pair of scales in the original pictures. Now John was a Lawyer and the Black Horse is seen as the ‘Lord as a Law-giver’.  There is also a segment depending upon which revelation you are reading where is states “ John hears a voice, unidentified but coming from among the four living creatures, that speaks of the prices of wheat and barley, also saying "and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine".
[Oil and Wine was also considered for the wealthy during certain eras, hence why it was not to be damaged or hurt.]
Using wiki I cant exactly find out which John this might be relating to [though more then likely John the Baptist], but I found it to be an interesting piece overall that it would mention the name and yet we have John Seed, a lawyer, a sadistic man that takes from Hope County and mainly Falls End and puts them on the brink of Famine as he takes from them, including their land, farms, food and supplies and it always comes with a high cost that being pain or lose of a home. The only thing that is different from the other two riders and their connections to fc5 is that John isn’t holding a pair of scales. He’s actually holding a Flag with the Edens Gate symbol. Though he does have a pair of scales tattooed on him. I was a bit confused but then when I re watched Johns cutscenes I understood. In Johns mind he believes that Edens Gate is doing justice, that it is helping people, that he is helping people by hurting them and for the price of pain that are given ‘freedom’ and saving them before the end of time.
The Black Horse is an Imperial Oppression, and John suits it very well with his nature. He takes from the people of Falls End, causes stress and depression, kidnaps people and tortures them to join Edens Gate. There is also an interpretation that when the Black Horse came forth that they where aggravated distress and mourning. Now who makes Falls end mourn and distressed? John thats who.
His Horse also says his catch phrase “Yes” which is to enforce people to say the word, to ‘wash away their sins’ as he claims. Again this is all to do with oppression. Oppress the enemy enough, break them down and get them to say Yes and join Edens Gate. By Far John is the most sadistic of the family and Famine seems to be the most cruelest of the horsemen, taking from people and only giving them barely enough to eat for one person rather then a family.
Another thing I noticed is all horsemen are looking down, Jospeh maybe not so much but his gaze is in the direction of the people whom have fallen. Yet Johns face is looking up, head to the sky smiling. This could be because of his nature and personality or another symbol of Famine not truly caring for what happens to the people they take from.
Faith The Pale Horsemen

When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.
— Revelation 6:7-8 NASB
The Pale horse has to be one of the most iconic horsemen of all, they are known as Death and the final horsemen to come forth. They use the other horsemen to achieve Death, through war, famine or conquest. The horsemen, Death, is seen being a fragile frail like figure meaning they have little strength but use other ways to achieve the end goal. Faith is very much this.
Death is never seen carrying a weapon which this also enforces the use of the other horsemen. Although popular and trending in present days you will see depictions of this horsemen usually seen as a Grim Reaper like figure with a sickle/scythe as a weapon. Yet with Faith we see her using Bliss. Bliss is a greenish, yellow look and that is a color seen and associated with the Death. This color is meant to symbolize sickness and death and often the sickly look of a corpse.
Now Death is also seen as Destroying an Empire which you can see as Faith has destroyed a lot in her Region. She has polluted the water, corrupted the people with bliss turning most of them into angels and has crippled any resistance in her region through the use of Bliss. Even going as far to cause problems for the native animals in her region. Its also not sure if the Faith we are seeing in her ‘invitations’ is living or dead, there are a lot of theories going around about her at the moment but not many with enough evidence. All we know is that she was not the first Faith and that we cant trust exactly what she says.
Perhaps in a way she used Bliss to create a ‘peaceful death’ using it upon others to make her Angels so that they did not have to suffer, though that too is also questionable with Faiths personality. She was a very good liar as Sheriff whitehorse states and some of her lines seems very disturbing at times.
Coming to a conclusion.:

Ubisoft did an outstanding job with this game but also how they depicted each of the antagonist characters as the four Horsemen that brought about the end of times. They also did a good job in making you question a lot about the game. Such as the fact that Deputy is seen as the Lamb that brings about the end and has come with a Whitehorse which we at first think might be meaning the Sheriff but in truth its the other way around where Joseph is making you think you are the wrong and he is the right. There is still so much about this game that I love and enjoy but for characters I think this has to be the most in depth that Ubisoft has ever gotten, especially when it comes to Religion as that can be a touch and go subject.

Okay, I’ve actually gotten a few questions about this now, so I suppose I’ll try to explain some things as best I can without ruining anything
This is so Extra and so Long, but it was the best way I could think of to explain it all, under the cut because I ramble and I literally wrote an essay. :/
Myths and Ichor Explained
Okay, so, I have this problem where I show instead of tell a lot. Too much, probably. It’s a bad habit I have that I’m trying to find some sort of middle ground on lol.
So, I often to use myths, images, ideas or sometimes just like, a word to convey a meaning or an implication.
Sometimes, obviously, I am too vague or because I’m the one writing it and I’m using myths/idea/stories I know… I don’t really consider that readers might not understand the message behind the implication.
I’ve had a few questions about the rib thing, and I think it’ll help explain things if I explain how I use my…writing devices? Methods of storytelling, maybe.
So, you know when your watching a horror movie and the scene is dark and your eyes are peeled and your hearts thumping because the music is going and the character on the screen is scared and so are you because you know that something’s going to happen.
And then it does, and you jump or you laugh or duck and move on.
For me, the memorable part of that moment isn’t the jump scare, it’s the moments before, it’s watching the shadows and wanting to see something more, hoping to see something to know what’s coming.
The memorable parts aren’t always when the scary thing is revealed because maybe it’s corny or not what you wanted— but do you remember that face in the mirror? Or the furniture that moved on its own? All those hints and build up are what make that movie better.
For me, it’s the same thing in stories. It isn’t always about the destination, because maybe you won’t be happy with the end. I mean, look at Harry Potter, how few of us actually like the epilogue, how few of us view Cursed Child as canon. But, give us a boy in a cupboard, give us platform, a man with a misspelt birthday cake and we’re all a little bit wizards, aren’t we?
The memorable things, for me, are the smaller things. The ideas that drag through a narrative and come out at the end into something that makes you go, oh.
Like a snitch.
Or a cloak.
Or a boy who lived. Twice.
And that, for me, is part of how I write— trying to focus on the smaller things, the memorable things, so that hopefully, by the end, you’ll go, oh.
But, I don’t want to confuse you, I’m still learning, and I know I’m using myths/imagery that maybe not everyone knows.
So, this is kind of how I approach using myths or imagery in Ichor:
Hades and Persephone, I think is the most obvious one, due to the interludes.

For the sake of argument, and to avoid an argument lol, I’ve always based my view on this myth on the source material. Which, if you follow that nifty link, contains the ancient Greek versions of the myth, sourcing the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, the Orphic Hymns, and Hesiod’s Theogony.
The basic idea of why this myth is so impactful on Ichor is, I hope, conveyed in the Interludes.
It’s about entitlement, about ownership, about claiming another person and viewing them as lesser, maybe not in a way you mean to be harmful, but anytime you believe you have a right to someone, you are, in essence making them lesser.
Voldemort views Harrie as a part of himself, and because of that view he believes he owns her. And because he owns her he has a right to her. And if he has a right to her then he has a right to use her.
And this is the same for Hades, he sees Persephone and he takes her. There’s a belief there, that owning is permission, that entitlement is somehow a reason, an explanation, an excuse.
But it’s not.
There’s a point to compare here, that both of these characters act out of selfishness, that they act physically because of it. Both characters operate on the belief that their desire outweighs the want of the other. And here, it’s important to note, that neither one truly believes that they’re right, they know they aren’t, they both, on some level, know they’re in the wrong. And most importantly, I think, is that both of them, before they act, seek validation.
Hades go to Zeus:
 Hades doesn’t need permission. Hades wants validation. Hades wants the deed and the title and a palm full of a declaration.
Voldemort knows he’s wrong but at the same time he feels so entitled to Harrie that he builds a contract and goes to Dumbledore for the sole purpose of validating himself.
Rape, forcing oneself onto another without concern for permission. But you gave me permission, didn’t you, Harrie. You signed that fucking contract.
The comparable parts of the myth don’t end there, I mean, Voldemort and Harrie aren’t ruling an underworld with a three-headed dog, but, the evolution into something more is still comparable.
It’s all about compromise, about understanding the damage you caused another person, about finding a way through that hurt and coming out stronger.
It’s a pretty good allegory, really. For finding strength, your voice, for being able say, you hurt me and I know you’re sorry, but that isn’t enough. About finding yourself, whether you’re an adult already or just a girl in a garden (or a cupboard, you know?)
The second major one, arguably more impactful one is The Rib Thing.

Now this myth itself isn’t so much related to the characters in Ichor so much as the idea of it is. It isn’t about finding parallels in the narrative but rather offering a sort of physical representation to the whole Horcrux/soul thing.
When you’re talking/reading/thinking about something like souls, how do you convey the weight of them? How do you convey percentages without falling into the same sort of lackluster lines and ideas?
How do you, as a reader, or me as a writer, convey what a soul means?
It’s all so theoretical and… evasive, really.
I can say, Voldemort wants Harrie because she carries his soul, he wants her because she’s got half his soul, a seventh of his soul, two third of his soul. But what does that do for you? Nothing really, at least not for me.
It’s all just numbers on a page.
I can tell you about a soul all day long, but it’s just words, there’s nothing there to really see.
But for me, when you read about Voldemort equating Harrie/Horcrux to the myth of Adam and Eve:
He thinks about God reaching into Adam’s chest and pulling out a bloody, white rib; a consecrated voice not meant for mortal ears
She comes from you because she is for you.
Did you think this would be painless?    
And then having him carry that belief into something physical, his ribs…
A soul becomes something physical for you to weigh. It’s a part of something, it isn’t so theoretical anymore but something real to imagine. Anytime Voldemort touches his ribs, there’s a reason, an ache, an idea behind it.
What’s a soul to Voldemort, it’s an ache, a bone, a thing missing.
Except, it’s not.
He has all his ribs.
And this is where I have to toe the line on what I’m getting at in the narrative and why this means something; because so much of what enables Voldemort is his own belief in his ownership of Harrie and it’s all due to that one fucking rib (soul piece).
The idea of the rib and what it represents is more important than the bone itself, you know? There’s meaning behind the fact that its whole that I can’t really explain without sort of spoiling the build in the narrative, without ruining some of the things that will be coming up as Harrie and Voldemort really come together and learn about themselves and each other.
But I do want you to have something to be able to build on, to understand their connection in a more real sense, a sense that isn’t always one of them hurting, or emotion bleeding from one to the other because that’s so loud and obvious and I get the appeal of jump scares, I do, but sometimes I like the shadows more.
If his soul is something tangible for you to picture, a white bone stuck inside of him, when I say he has all of them, you think, a full rib cage, you think, is Harrie missing one? If he has all his ribs then how are they connected?
And that’s sort of the idea, really, giving you images and ideas and then building on them so that when I imply that he’s got a full soul, you aren’t just reading it, but imagining it as well.
That as I build on their connection and what the impact of souls and Horcruxes are…
It’s not just some ball of light, or whatever you picture a soul to be if you picture anything at all… but something real, something there, something that every time I mention Voldemort touching his ribs you go

He had already shown a strong inclination for natural science, and this had been fostered by his intimacy with a "self-taught philosopher, astronomer and mathematician", as Sir Walter Scott called him, of great local fame, James Veitch of Inchbonny, a man who was particularly skillful in making telescopes.
Though Brewster duly finished his theological studies and was licensed to preach, his other interests distracted him from the duties of his profession. In 1799 fellow-student Henry Brougham persuaded him to study the diffraction of light. The results of his investigations were communicated from time to time in papers to the Philosophical Transactions of London and other scientific journals. The fact that other scientists – notably Étienne-Louis Malus and Augustin Fresnel – were pursuing the same investigations contemporaneously in France does not invalidate Brewster's claim to independent discovery, even though in one or two cases the priority must be assigned to others.
The most important subjects of his inquiries were the laws of light polarization by reflection and refraction, and other quantitative laws of phenomena, the discovery of the polarizing structure induced by heat and pressure, the discovery of crystals with two axes of double refraction, and many of the laws of their phenomena, including the connection between optical structure and crystalline forms, the laws of metallic reflection, and experiments on the absorption of light. In this line of investigation, the prime importance belongs to the discovery of the connection between the refractive index and the polarizing angle. biaxial crystals, and the production of double refraction by irregular heating.

Among the non-scientific public, his fame spread more effectually by his invention in about 1815 of the kaleidoscope, for which there was a great demand in both the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. As a reflection of this fame, Brewster portrait was later printed in some cigar boxes. Brewster chose renowned achromatic lens developer Philip Carpenter as the sole manufacturer of the kaleidoscope in 1817. Although Brewster patented the kaleidoscope in 1817 (GB 4136), a copy of the prototype was shown to London opticians and copied before the patent was granted. As a consequence, the kaleidoscope became produced in large numbers, but yielded no direct financial benefits to Brewster. It proved to be a massive success with two hundred thousand kaleidoscopes sold in London and Paris in just three months.
Brewster died on February 10th, 1868 at age 86, in Melrose, Scotland after a long and successful career.
