And now, after a number of posts made covering Season 2's incredible ability to introduce new memes...it comes time to torture them.

I've made it no secret that Season 2 was likely when my investment in SiIvaGunner was at its absolute peak, and that was in large part due to how invested I'd become in the ongoing lore and story at that time. Part of it was of course everything surrounding the main story itself: Season 1 had stuff like the reboot with I Saw a Brainwasher Today and the Mr. Rental side story with Mr. Rental [B Side] ~ Out of Options, and Season 2's slow-burn premiere had kept me thoroughly engaged with rips like 28 Saves Later and Patched Plains Fusion Collab all building up to the premiere of the Christmas Comeback Crisis. But another part of it was also how even the most off-shoot things were often spun to tie in with the channel's lore during Season 2 in particular: the Smooth takeover described in Haltmanna feat. Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, the Inspector Gadget takeover of Become as Gadget, and so many more...Because of this, and the memories of Season 1's various ARG-like puzzles strewn about from time to time, it felt more important than ever to consider the meaning and depth to every rip uploaded, to consider how a rip's contents may be reflecting what's going on in the world of Grandiose City, almost akin to trying to deduce Dark Souls lore through item descriptions.

And I mean, hey - lore or not, that feeling that any one rip uploaded has the potential to set off a chain reaction in relevance based on its popularity is one of the most fun parts of following SiIvaGunner even today (Mad Mew Mew Becoming Uncanny and THE NEW TEAM 10 FORT!!! [Francis Flow: Original Mix] are just two examples come to mind.). Yet that specific tie and investment to the ongoing lore of the Christmas Comeback Crisis, the fight to free the captured Figments being exploited by Haltmann and The Voice Inside Your Head, is what IMMEDIATELY made YTPMV Plant Inspection stick out as far more important and meaningful than it may otherwise have been seen as. With the combined bellows of the Howie Scream and Loud Nigra, it takes but a few seconds to realize that something here had gone terribly wrong.

The original Studying the Factory theme from Kirby 64 has become one of the franchise's most enduring themes, despite how much it differs from most anything you'd expect from the series' soundscape. Its an imposing, industrial-sounding theme driven by percussion that sounds like heavy-duty machinery pounding in the background, with a lead synth trying its best to be heard through the savage tools its surrounded by. It strikes an absolutely brilliant balance of sounding imposing, oppressive yet simultaneously infectiously catchy: An atmosphere that, somehow, through leveraging our attachment to the channel's existing memes, YTPMV Plant Inspection is able to perfectly translate to the medium of YTPMV. Again, the literal first thing we hear is the channel's foremost and second-most iconic scream-memes, one of which almost replaced the other in the Reboot storyline, now seemingly suffering the same torturous fate - only to be followed by vocalizations of PSY seeming to only barely be holding on. Even as the rip picks itself together past the intro, you never truly get past the sense that the sources feel almost as if they're pain performing, with slight tweaks made to their melodies to better fit the progression of Studying the Factory - as if they're being made to fall in line. This feeling is only enhanced by the climax to the rip's chorus being performed by the two aforementioned scream-memes, sounding just as strained and suffering as they did in the song's opening.

And look, I'm aware this interpretation of things is a bit silly - of COURSE a YTPMV rip of a song like Studying the Factory, especially the Planet Robobot rendition of the track, was going to sound like this. I don't necessarily believe that it was Zoom's intention to make a rip directly referencing the idea that SiIva's captured figments were undergoing genuine torture, but...again, the idea of linking even innocuous rips to lore was one that had been well established at that point.

With everything from Grand Dad Metropolis to Angry Joe's Theme, the SiIvaGunner team had conveyed to audience members like me that they LOVED rewarding us for paying attention to everything being done on the channel. It was that speculation being done over the deeper meanings in rips just like YTPMV Plant Inspection that played a huge part in keeping them etched in my memory banks for a long time, that was what kept me coming back to video after video to see what was being said and discussed in their comments sections. Because sure, YTPMV Plant Inspection is no doubt a banger in isolation, it uses and plays with a lot of sources and fiddles with them just enough to fit the main track's melody and progression smoothly, a lot of classics like Smooth and Bonfire and Drop It Like It's Hot with fantastic use of samples like PSY's and Joel's GRAND DAD!! shout...but it really was everything SURROUNDING the rip that made it stick with me for years since.

It's damn impressive what a rip can do with just some atmosphere and buildup, huh?

hey king, during this lovely pride month I told my dad I'm not cis, im nonbinary. It went well yay! but I knew it would go well but I'm not sure he fully got what non-binary meant (tbf I could've done better with the explanation too but nerves I guess), do you know a nice meme or like a simple thing that would kinda explain it?

First off, congrats!! I'm glad the conversation went well 😊 I kind of found myself in the same boat with my parents when I came out as nonbinary and gave them a very quick rundown on what that meant for me. They were honest with me in that they may need a minute to fully grasp nonbinary as a concept, because at the time they'd literally never heard of it, but they've always been open to learning more since then and have asked genuine questions when they have them so everything has worked out. Hopefully that'll be the case with your dad too!

As far as simple ways to explain it to someone who isn't familiar with the concept, that can definitely be tough since nonbinary is an umbrella term that covers an incalculable number of different gender experiences, with the unifying idea just being that the experience is outside of the usually thought of male-female binary model. There have been memes about being nonbinary that I've seen made by other nb people that haven't vibed at all with the way I experience gender, and I'm sure that my own experience doesn't vibe for every single other nb person out there too.

For myself, both when I came out to my parents and my coworkers, I actually ended up leaning more on the historic facts side of things because that's always been how my brain best wraps itself around new concepts. Nonbinary genders have existed throughout recorded human history, across many different cultures all over the world, so the idea that the male and female binary model is the "one original and true" way of experiencing gender just isn't factually correct and apparently that actually was hugely enlightening for a number of my older coworkers.

There have definitely been plenty of memes out there that try to break it down into a more simple concept for people trying to learn about what being nonbinary means, like the 2 below here

but they may very well not fit the way that you experience being nonbinary so don't feel like you have to necessarily rely on explanations or memes made by other people that don't actually fit for you. There's plenty of time for your dad to learn and grow and it's gonna be a journey for both of you in a lot of ways! Like I know I've sometimes showed clips from shows to my parents when a nonbinary character or actor shows up because that sort of thing helps reinforce for them that their kid isn't alone out here in this experience, just as an example.

There was a post on here going around for a little while (and for the LIFE of me of course I can't find it now, or remember the op, so if anyone knows the post I'm talking about and could link it as a reply please do and I'll do the same if I come across it later!) where basically the op framed it as "if being male is being in California on a map of the US, and being female is being in NY, I'm somewhere off in <insert other location between those two here>" So that's also another kind of framing option for you if that sounds like it would fit your experience. Basically any format where you frame it as "rather than being stuck between 2 ill fitting options, being nb means there's tons of other options just like XYZ thing in our world already" can help, in my experience at least.

I hope some of this helps anon - I know it was probably a lot more rambling than you may have expected lmao, and again huge congrats on coming out and it's awesome that your dad is accepting and supportive right out the gate, even if he's still learning as he goes!

she's from chicago. (this is me thinking about the thing i said i wasn't going to think about, i.e. skrael and barb interacting...holds head in HANDS.) i like the thought that she's from a big city, but also far away from any potential blood relatives; i also have an immense amount of fondness for this particular city; also i always associate chicago with stricklake bc it's a major location in niemals_etwas' cultic epithets of the god janus (disputed), a fic that (not to be dramatic or anything) literally changed my life.

6: favorite line from this character

uuuuugh she has so many good ones and it's been...a HOT minute since i actually rewatched trollhunters, lol. off the top of my head? "then go to him!" from angor management. i've seen some...questionable takes on the intertubes re: barbara's fitness as a mother, but i've never seen any reason to doubt that she's trying her best in ridiculous circumstances. she doesn't know everything, she gets it wrong, but she tries, hard. related to my answer for the next question...

7: one way in which i relate to this character

she's so!!! completely, endearingly human, in a world full of very un-human things. and this is never presented as a weakness but as an asset. a sweet reminder that humans might be dumb or misinformed but largely can be good, actually.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

oh...i do love her, but when she's so bent on Helping she ends up freeing angor from the uv light trap. i LOVE her, she was just trying to help, but barb, girl 😭

Oooh! I’m all in on writing more for Regis, especially his younger self. The cryptic-like description in the books gives a lot of room to explore, so that’s what I’m going to do! You could easily say that this vamp lad is slowly taking over the business, with how many asks I have gotten lately about him haha : )

Summarised in a sentence: Younger! Regis in my opinion is completely different compared to his current self. During his “youngster years”, I imagine him to fit with the vampire crowd he was hanging around with. That entails being an egotistical individual with a “try me bitch” attitude. In all honesty, you can accurately describe him as the “douchebag” from high school. He would do anything to uphold his status in “the pack” he was running around with, which means, there wasn’t any chance of showing weakness to anyone.

If I were to place him between being 100% selfless or 100% selfish, I would count him as neither. I feel like he would be the type, who deals in favors rather than selfless acts. The mutual gain would suit him best because both the parties go out of it with their prize. He would especially be content when his part of the deal was easy-peasy/comically small compared to the other persons. What isn’t there to be happy about in such a situation? He doesn’t need to perform any difficult or problematic favor while he would still be gaining something out of the deal.

Being prone to spontaneous decisions or acts, he would absolutely be the type to make some scene around authority. Whatever it would take to provoke a reaction out of the poor monk, mayor, or whoever would be in charge. It would be even funnier for him when he’s aware of zero consequences coming from it. He’s 100% the type to do something and yet being on the side of the law, because the thing he did wasn’t “technically” breaking any law. Short said: He was creating the drama, simply for the gist of it. Which according to him and his peers, was a quite fun way of entertainment besides tormenting the locals at night.

Even with all his antics and two-faced attitude, he was thought of as “an intellectual” among the common folk. But rather than using it to help people in need, he used his knowledge for his own gain and concerns. People would often compare him to the stereotypical jackal, fox, or snake. All this effort, went into keeping himself above the storming sea, trying to uphold his place beside his supposed “friends.”

To sum up: Younger! Regis was a definite little shit, and he loved the drama of it! :D

☼ - appearance headcanon

Regis truly wasn’t someone who walked in cheap clothing. Poet shirts, corsets, chokers, you name it, he most likely had one item of everything considered “rich people clothing.” He dressed up to leave an impression, being more precise: to inform everyone he’s no mere farmer or merchant, but someone way important and richer.

To describe his style, I would say he wore a mix of medieval/renaissance nobleman clothing. Plus, he would wear coats resembling those from the pre/post-French revolution, with all those fancy embroidery patterns. With that in mind, most of his clothes were costumes made with some extra spice in form of, different references to the vampire culture example being some hidden symbols or designs in the embroidery on his coat.

Another reason for costume-made clothing, in my opinion, would be his height. I imagine him to be something of a humanoid crane if I could refer to him as such, both thin and tall. Truth be told, I don’t think his strength or any attributes would be extremely affected by his build, with him being a supernatural being and etcetera. Nonetheless, to be honest, it would make for a great cover as a “weak nobleman.” Which could be used for conning people or picking a target for the feast.

Besides the main part of clothing, I think he would be a literal magpie. Anything shiny would immediately be considered his, either by legal or not so legal means. He’s absolutely in love with rings, the reason being their practicality. The more rings, the better and easier is the damage when sucker punching someone in the face (or other more sensitive areas). On another note, I don’t even know if it would be possible for him, but he gives off the vibes of someone who would get tattoos. The designs would range from some literature-inspired vampiric scenes, animals such as ravens, or even herbs (this one would most likely be something for older Regis though).

HOW STRICTLY DO YOU FOLLOW CANON?

This... this is a trick question in this goddamn mess of a continuity. That said, I try my absolute best to make my portrayal coherent with the TFP show... even if said show contradicts itself at times. I take inspiration from the earlier parts (the thirteen primes section) of the Covenant of Primus for his origin backstory, but ignore the rest of the Covenant since it makes absolutely no sense with his characterization in... literally anything else. I’ve peeked at Exodus and it utterly sucks, but I’ve picked up bits and pieces of concepts that originated there just from spending time in the fandom. Aside from that... I spend a ton of time thinking about how to weave everything together in a way that both makes sense and makes for a character development arc.

SELL YOUR MUSE! (aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.)

Orion is genuinely kind, thoughtful, and introspective, very loving of the world around him.

He’s also a more complex character than is initially obvious - despite mostly being good sweet pure baby nerd he’s still flawed, with many of those flaws being his strengths put into the wrong situation. His strong morals can lead to dogmatism, and he’s only slightly less likely to deliver lectures than Optimus. His determination to be kind and help everyone can come off as unintentionally patronizing at times; he has a very “well-intentioned semi-privileged middle class” perspective that he’s not always self-aware of. However, he’s also willing to look at himself critically and learn/adapt.

Essentially, he has many of the same traits as Optimus... just more or less apparent and/or developed. He's less confident than he eventually becomes through his future experience with leadership, wanting to change the world for the better but sometimes struggling to ground his plans in reality—something that continues to apply, but with reduced intensity and frequency over time. Idealistic cinnamon roll will eventually develop some realism, though never really quite enough. His selflessness remains a strength for now, but we know that eventually it will dip into martyristic tendencies.

NOW THE OPPOSITE! (list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?)

He could be potentially ‘boring’ in some senses. he’s the polite, considerate ‘next door’ type, who has for most of his life has just lived as a very average middle caste nobody. He’s more laid-back than he eventually becomes as optimus, but where others might get into trouble and shenanigans he’s most likely to just express concern. And since I try to keep him at least mostly ic, even with non-serious posts, this can derail ‘fun’ stuff and I fear dissuade some interaction.

While I try my best to give him realistic flaws that work with his character, he could still be seen as a little too good. very kind, understanding, forgiving, patient, considerate... almost endlessly so. A lot of my “he’s so good and pure” interpretation comes from using his having been the thirteenth prime as backstory, where he was pretty much the epitome of that, but some might not like the “he was a literal deity in a past life” idea for its “super special chosen one protagonist” elements.

His responsiveness to his environment can also be a downside. He’s not the type to start things; he just reacts and responds, standing his ground and finding himself when things get crazy around him. without megatronus, he may have eventually attempted political campaigning, but it wouldn’t have gotten very far. He needs to have more intense characters or events around him for major plots to really go places. Without those nothing would ever happen besides slice of life fluff, because he’s content with that kind of life.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?

Honestly I just wanted to write op/ratch fhsjkdjsdh. But I also wanted to be able to interact with a variety of muses and so I chose Orion over Optimus because he’s not so emotionally closed off, which I figured would give more flexibility beyond the handful of characters op would reasonably have close personal and/or plot-important relationships with. Also, I can relate to him on a thought-process level which lets me get into his head easily, which additionally made him an appealing choice for my first real rp muse.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?

I just love him so much, especially with the layers of his character I've built up around him. I don't always have inspiration to write or rp, but I think about him a lot. When I do find motivation to write, it's generally out of wanting to continue to work on developing him and just having a chance to express his characterization.

I guess how I would feel about it would depend on what it was and how it was delivered, though I like to think I would be reasonable regardless

Depends on if their disagreement makes sense. Maybe I’ll give back my own reasoning for why I characterize the way I do. Maybe I’ll just agree to disagree, if their view is just totally different from mine. If they have valid points I’ll probably overthink it and spiral into self doubt. In all cases I’ll spill my thoughts to friends on discord.

Yeah. I’m pretty quiet most of the time because I just don’t have energy to talk to a lot of people, and I never want to get caught in drama. The very most originalslogan for the meme/design was “Keep Calm and Carry On” and was a poster which looked like this

The poster was produced by the British government in 1939 in preparation for World War II.

The poster was produced to reassure and motivate the British general public who, by 1939, was well aware of the growing unrest in Europe and Nazi Germany’s expansion. Despite what many history books say, WWII “officially” started in 1941 after Hitler invaded Poland, but there was trouble YEARS before that and many countries were at war with Germany a few years earlier than the Allies. (going against treaties signed by Germany in an attempt to AVOID war breaking out due to Hitler’s expansion. This was due to the fact that Europe had just HAD a massive war with WWI which ended in 1918 and Europe and England were trying to avoid another massive war breaking out. That s kind of its own little history lesson so I’ll cut it short).

The point is, Hitler began his invasion of neighbouring countries around 1933 or so (my dates are not the best and its been a few years since I checked the exact numbers but I believe he was sworn in as Chancellor in 1931 and started his campaign of Nazi expansion in 1933 or so. I could be wrong but I really can’t go down a WWII rabbit hole right this second so please google the exact dates on your own)

the point IS… England was well aware of Germany being a problem well before 1941 when WWII “officially” began by the Allied countries declaring war on Germany and its invaded countries and allies. By 1939, England was aware that war most likely was inevitable and had predicted that England would be victim to massive air strikes from Germany.

The point of the poster was to appeal to the British mass public, and its essentially message was “Don’t panic. Keep living your lives as normal. Just keep moving forward.”

The poster was not used en masse and only rarely actually displayed during WWII but it did appear publicly a few times during the war.

Some people have criticised the poster as being a little Orwellian, because it could be seen as trying to lull the British populace into a false sense of security, or telling them to ignore the massive growing problem in Europe.

However, I feel (and many historians seem to agree with me) that the poster was appealing to the tradition British mentality of “stiff upper lip” and resilience during times of adversity. It’s essentially telling people not to lose their minds and go apeshit, but to keep going, don’t crumble into despair, and move forward.

it IS propaganda, make no mistake, but I think what most people forget is that “Propaganda” is not a positive or negative concept. It is a neutral concept that very most often gets used for negative reasons, and so it has been given a negative connotation. But propaganda at its core, is defined as

“Denoting ideas or information as a means to advance a cause.”

I for one HATE inaccuracy, but let it be known that it is in how Propaganda is USED that makes it negative or positive. All Propaganda is used to try and influence or control the populace, but it is to what GOAL you are trying to influence the populace. Unfortunately MOST of the time that goal is simply “Don’t question the people in power”. But in this case? The goal was simply “Do not panic”, for better or worse.

My point is one should look at the REASONS a piece of propaganda exists rather than say “it is Propaganda. Therefor it is bad”.

Hell, “Love Wins” is a piece of propaganda. We just don’t call it that despite it literally fitting the term because we’ve been so taught that “Propaganda” is a bad thing due to how groups and governments have abused it in the past.

But I’m rambling now. You can disagree with me on my propaganda thing and I completely understand, I’m just trying to give context.

Back to the poster!

The poster actually has 2 sister posters to go with it which did NOT become a meme for reason I can’t IMAGINE as to why~

and the far less noble one which is more in line with traditional propaganda

Anyway, the poster wasn’t widely used and didn’t become as recogniseable as the WWI “I want YOU for the US Army” poster, but it was discovered in an old bookstore in 2000 where, after getting hung up behind the register, it gained massive attention so the owner started selling merchandise for it (coffee mugs etc etc).

And from there and further spreading it became the meme it eventually ended up being.

The reason I find this insulting is not so much that it was so widely used, as it is that it was so widely used with SO FEW PEOPLE knowing its original roots and reason for existing.

I’m all for re-interpreting propaganda in new ways and for the transformative use of art… but I can’t help but cringe a little on the inside when I see a poster meant to calm a troubled populace in the face of dictatorship growing in Europe used like this…

Where the “Keep Calm” is complete irrelevant to the phrase and the structure of the meme is used ONLY to express how you are a “fan” of something. Whether that be for a movie, video game or some kind of media, to things like having a certain dog breed, havng a hobby like dancing or horse riding, or even just plain “Shopping” because wimmin be like-

I am all for transformative work using old design and art pieces transformed into something new by bringing a new perspective. Hell that’s what a large part of modern art IS. Reinterpretation, transforming, deconstruction, re-inventing. That’s a GIANT part of art…

but…. this went far and beyond that. This went from transforming old art concepts for a modern age by redefining them and went straight to “unfunny meme based on a period of real historical suffering”.

And it’s probably not really THAT big a deal… but that doesn’t change the fact that to me personally, I found it insulting. And I’m glad it’s died.

You have great taste in music! I really like R&B-style songs too! My playlist is so long bc whenever I hear a kpop song I like, I just it to the playlist rather than my library. Pdx101 is the first (and only) survival type show I've seen, it was simultaneously great and awful, but I'm glad I watched it. 11. I do love both dogs and cats (and all other animals) but if I had to only choose one to have as a pet I’d go with a dog for sure!! They’re just,,,so pure,,,precious BABIES. My favorite dog breed is probably the samoyed! I love that they have those cute smiles. Just thinking about it makes my heart melt :’) But other than dogs, I had a phase where I was SUPER into pandas.
