alie! I absolutely adore this mirrorball x buck set that you made last year! (/post/701462848238403584/) (also I can't believe it's been a year, like seriously what is time?) I was wondering how you did the shattered glass effect in the first gif? in particular how you made the black and white gifs appear distorted within the glass if that makes sense? thank you!!!

ahhh thank you so much renee! literally what is time lol, this gifset is still one of my faves that i made. the shattered glass effect is mostly just a lot of layer masks to be honest hahaha. i'm so glad i still have the psd, so here's how i did it under the cut~

(this tutorial assumes you know how to put multiple gifs in the same canvas and are familiar with layer groups and masks)

I. PREPARATION

first things first, create an empty canvas of your desired size. mine was 540x540 px.

then, you need to find a cracked glass texture. if i remember correctly i simply googled something like "broken glass png", "cracked glass png", because i wanted something already transparent.

(a texture that's something like black lines over a white background definitely works too, you'll just have to put that layer's blending mode to darken or multiply.)

and after positioning it into my canvas.

II. CREATING MAIN SECTIONS FOR GIFS

so basically when i did is i sectioned parts of the texture for each gif that i wanted to put. following the texture's lines, i zoomed in and carefuly drew a first shape along the lines with the polygon tool. you can also put a color fill layer behind the cracked glass layer so it's easier to see, like i did.

once you have your shape selected, click on the folder icon (1), then on the layer mask icon (2). it should give you a nice masked group to put gifs in hehe

then i repeated the process until i had all of my desired shapes. i've put some color layers so it's easier to see, but here are my 6 main shapes and how my layer groups look like so far:

III. GIFFING TIME

after screencaping and making all 6 gifs required for each section, you need to put all of them in the same canvas. i simply put one smart object gif layer in each group created earlier. then, i resized and rotated each gif to fit its group (by hitting ctrl + T while selecting the gif layer), as you can see with the gif labeled 6x02 in the layers preview. for the coloring, i went simple with black and white for most of them.

once i have all six gifs sharpened, colored, and placed in each shape group, the gif looks like this. the broken glass texture does most of the work to be honest:

obviously the center gif doesn't have any kind of effect, it's just colored as usual, so i'm not gonna go over it. it's just one gif layer in a masked group.

IV. SUBSECTIONS FOR DISRTORTED EFFECT

okay so for the distorted effect it's even more layer masks! basically i created more smaller sections within each main shapes already, still following the cracked glass texture's lines with the polygon tool and put them in individual masked groups like i did in the second step. here's how i ended up dividing each main sections:

yep, each color here is a different masked group, for example the 2nd and 3rd shape sections:

for each main shape section, you want to duplicate your gif layer the same amount of times as you have subsections within that shape. so if the main shape has 5 smaller subsections, i want 5 layers of that same gif. just make sure to not change its duration or position yet, and make sure the coloring layers/group stays on top of the groups in its shape section. then, simply put one gif layer duplicate in each group. example of my layers for the second shape so far:

then just repeat this until all subsections have its own gif layer.

V. DISTORTED EFFECT

this is the best part! and it's really easy. basically you want to slightly move each subsection by a few pixels, so they're in a slightly different position than the ones next to it.

to do so, select one of the gif layers and with the arrows on your keyboard, move it left or right, and even up or down if it looks good. i do this for all duplicated gif layers, making sure it looks like they're all slightly offset. focus on the cracked glass overlay's lines while nudging the gif layers, it's easy to see how the shapes break when you move them. for example here:

this is really just all trial and error, you just need to move each subsection gif layer by a few pixels with the keyboard arrows until it looks good to you.

here's my result once i've done this for all (23!!) subsections:

VI. FINAL TOUCHES

i don't think i did much else to this before typography besides adding a bit of contrast overall and a thin drop shadow to the cracked layer texture on top of everything. if you have a transparent png this definitely helps to give a bit more dimension to the effect. so here's the final result:

Because apparently I can't let anything go... So a few days ago I made a post about Buddy Daddies' first anniversary coming up and I wasn't going to make something "official" but the brainrot is too strong so here we are... This Sunday, January 7th, it's exactly one year since the first episode of Buddy Daddies was released! And I think that calls for a celebration! I put everything under a cut because this got really long

I came up with a few things that the fandom could do to celebrate this adorable family! Of course these are not exclusive things! If you want to contribute anything that's not listed below, go for it! 1. A weekly rewatch of the episode that aired a year ago Starting Sunday January 7th, we rewatch the episode that aired on that date last year. Nothing is stopping you from binging the rest of the episodes that day, of course! It would just be fun that a lot of us watch the same episode on the same day (or through a watch party if anyone knows how to do that)! 2. Create!! This is literally what it says: create! Just anything related to the episode of that week! There are so many options, but I'm just giving a few things I could come up with - Fanfics surrounding that week's episode. Dive into a scene you wished had more details. Write a scene you feel should've happened in the episode but didn't. Write a scene for a headcanon that you have. Really anything you want (it would be fun if it had something to do with that week's episode, but no one's going to punish you if it isn't). - Make a gifset for that week's episode. Make a set about your favourite character from that episode, your favourite moment, favourite quotes, favourite outfits,... Anything goes really! - Make fanart! There are so many talented artists in this fandom who make amazing pieces of art! It would be fun to see you make something that links back to that week's episode. I'm thinking about redrawing your favourite screenshot in your style. Draw your favourite moment. Draw a scene that you wish happened in the episode. Redraw your favourite piece of Lily art in your style! (I know this last one is less linked to the episodes but who cares). You brilliant people can probably come up with other things still! - Write a theory/headcanon/character analysis/... I have seen so many people write insightful posts about things that weren't explicitly shown on screen. There are characters we get very little background info over. Characters that we know a few things about but it feels like there can be so much more written about them! Write about your headcanons, both for past and future versions of the characters. Write your theories about certain things. It feels like there's still so much to say about this anime and a lot of people out there who know how to put those things into words! - Make an edit! This can be a video edit, a literal photoshop edit. Make wallpapers, phone backgrounds, profile pictures, memes,... Anything you want really! 3. HAVE FUN!! I know it sounds like it, but there really aren't any rules to this! Just have fun! It would just be fun that whatever you decide to post is in some way linked to the episode, but that's not set in stone, obviously! Just enjoy! I think it would be fun to dedicate a week to each episode (so a 12/13 week event if we count the recap episode), starting on the day that episode first aired last year and ending the day before the new episode aired (ex. for episode 1: starting on Sunday, January 7th and ending on Saturday, January 13th). You can decide if you just want to post something about your rewatching the episode or if you want to create something. If you want to make something, you can do multiple things if you want. And again: no one is going to punish you if you posted something from episode 1 during episode 2's week! We're all busy and don't always manage to get something done in time, so don't stress about not being able to finish something "on time". Lastly, I think it would be fun to make this into a hashtag as well! I thought of using the tag #Buddy Daddies Anniversary (very on the nose, I know, so if someone knows something more fun, please share it with the group). And like I said before: HAVE FUN!!

Man, I love ncis. I think the shows I was first ever obsessed about were csi and ncis. I've loved this show for ages now. Annnd with being an og ncis fan comes the adventure that was following Tiva's story upclose for all those years they were on screen. If I'm being honest, truly honest, even though I always name another couple (that also gave me so much) when asked which is my favorite otp, the real answer has always been Tiva. The way just the thought of those two makes my heart vibrate is... otherworldly.

And I've been active here on tumblr for so many fandoms but never for ncis/tiva. And I don't know why???

I started watching ncis when I was a child and I'm almost 30 now. I'm not an American and I didn't have any friends who liked it when I was a teenager, not even my fandom friends on the bird app, I was literally the only one watching it, dying over tiny Tiva moments alone... so I never posted anything about it. Sometimes I write fanfiction, but my only Tiva fic I wrote just a couple years ago, and I also love to make gifsets but I don't think I've ever made anything ncis related. That frustrates me now, because I just noticed the amount of people here I could've been interacting with.

How come I never thought of checking out the ncis and tiva tags in here??? I remember it being so SO lonely watching and suffering through Ziva's departure alone 'cause there was nobody to talk about it with. A couple seasons after that I dropped ncis for a while, but couldn't stay away for too long and went back to watching it.

I'm still as in love with it as the first day. All other shows that last this long tend to lose intensity and/or quality, but ncis just keeps on giving me life. These days I've been missing Tiva way too much, my heart hurts. I started rewatching the show and wanna be making some tiva content.

(btw, what are all these rumors about them coming back, I'm about to have a heart attack just thinking about it)

Yes, of course! We’re not a Big Bang, or even a Mini Bang, we don’t require art or fic to have been created from scratch for exactly this week.

I’m going to be busy/out of town during Snowbarry Week. Can I post early/late?

We’d really like to avoid early posting. If you’re out of town or too busy the week itself you can always schedule posts for the correct dates.

Posting late shouldn’t be a problem. Posting Day 1 on Day 3 is also perfectly fine, just make sure we can tell which day you’re posting for, so our heads don’t start spinning.

What does free day mean?

Basically, free day is where you decide what prompt you want to do something with. As long as it’s Snowbarry (or one of its variations like Savifrost, Flashfrost, etc), you’re okay to do whatever you want. A free day in the middle of the week might also provide some much needed breathing space for all the contributors.

Also, the same as last year, our free day now doubles as an opportunity to create for any of our past prompts! If there was a prompt you didn’t manage to finish something for, or just always liked the sound of doing but missed the opportunity, we’d love to see that for this day to have a fun revival of some of the great prompts from past events.

What does [insert theme] mean?

Oh man, this is a hard one to answer. Reconnecting could be about Barry and Caitlin getting to know each other after falling out, or after drifting apart, but it could also be about reconnecting with other things in their life or even as literal as reconnecting cables on some tech as part of an action plot! We can’t tell you which roles to cast your characters in, because everyone has different interpretations. If you can justify the connection, we’re pretty sure you’re good.

Does my idea fit the theme?

Like we said above, if you can justify it, we’re pretty sure you’re good. If you’re really not sure, hit us up!

Hmmm, I read "therefore each to other bound" a lot tbh, almost religiously. But I'd say "Until Death Do Us Part" by my friend Annie. It's a Modern AU where Jaime and Cersei are married, and I love it to pieces and keep reading it over and over again.

24. Funniest fandom-related story?

OMGGGG Once upon a time, I blocked another JC stan on Tumblr. Her behavior was really "Meh", very childish behavior, and she kept trying to fight br*imes. And so, I blocked her because I didn't like the vibe she was giving off and she was annoying. Girly got MAD, like mad MAD and everytime she tried to make friends with other JC stans, she used to shit on me. Once, years later, she tagged one of her fics "it's better than most of the Pentos AU you'll read" or something along the lines, and it pissed me off, because you don't shit on your fellow writers, especially in such a small fandom, so I made a vague post about it on my blog. I didn't mention her, only in the convo I had with my friend in the replies. But Ma'am was STALKING MY BLOG, LITERALLY. And a few days later later, she wrote a WHOLE LONG ASS POST about me on her blog, saying I was insane and unhinged. I found out because someone send me the adress of her blog. And honestly? It was hilarious, to see her still being mad years later after I blocked her as if I had murdered her whole family. I didn't say anything about that post because it made me laugh and I don't know what she became, but I do know AO3 banned her for her behavior.

yeah so what got me thinking about this was a gifset of a bunch of m!leven moments of mikes actions and what he says to el and i was looking through the comments and they were all like “actions are his love language!! hes just an awkward kid thats bad with words!” and its not so much that those actions cant depict love, its just that theres usually something so much bigger and louder for byler that theyre choosing to ignore or mike does something after one of those moments that negates one of the moments theyre talking about.

one example of them hyping up a mlvn moment and ignoring a bigger byler moment is “youre the most important thing to me in the world” compared to “it was the best thing ive ever done”. those are technically dialogue not actions but its the way theyre delivered.

mike says els the most important thing to him during the sauna test episode. he says it when he’s trying to explain himself to el and why he lied to her and how hopper was making him stay away from her. he says this line so casually in an attempt to get her back and el completely ignores it and says that hopper was right to keep him away. its not even a “moment” its just a line and its not given any attention at all. i didnt even know what melvns were referring to at first because it wasnt set up to be a memorable and impactful sentence. its literally completely ignored.

meanwhile “it was the best thing ive ever done” is a tearful confession of mike telling will that the best decision of his life was befriending him in kindergarten. it’s an entire monologue, not just a line thrown into an argument. he’s crying. the lighting and mood is very dramatic meant to show so much emotion. it’s not a scene or a line you forget about, whether youre into byler or not. i cant believe how much melvns defend their ship with that line when this line is clearly meant to be more important. i also think its interesting that he described el as a “thing” but here he only describes the action of asking will to be his friend as a “thing”. as if el is kinda this material accessory rather than his girlfriend. why didnt he just say “person”? he does in s4 when he says “youre the most incredible person in the world” but that sentence doesnt include what she is and what she means to him.

another thing they hype up that has a byler related argument is mike calling her everyday for 353 days. he doesnt continue calling her everyday in s2. he stopped when will was in danger because he was more concerned about him than el. i also wanna say that doing this isnt necessarily romantic by default. if nancy had never gotten confirmation that barb died i wouldnt put it past her to do something like this as well. when s2 picks up its a year later and shes still grieving a lot and she and jonathan go all the way to murrays to give barb’s family and nancy too some closure for her death.

something that they hype up that is negated by something else mike does is the cabin “i love her and i cant lose her again” line. that lines not so powerful when he cant say it to her face. hes said it out loud before, the only explanation for why he cant say it to her face now and even then at the end of s3 is because he knows its not true. and now he wont even say it to anyone else either. he could have told will that “that thing” he didnt say was that he loves her but he didnt. and as el said, he cant even write it. he doesnt love her.

and heres some more negative melvn actions that they refuse to acknowledge

mike wont let her touch him when they kiss. he even stops the kiss intentionally to sing.

when mike was biking to the movie theater and talking to el saying he’d see her tomorrow, el was obviously way more excited than he was.

he didnt try to apologize to her right after their fight/break up. he did with will. in the pouring rain.

he doesnt kiss her back in the last episode of s3 and he looks very confused after.

hes not nearly as excited as el is at the airport. hes not even looking at her while theyre walking together. same with at the rink.

and as for byler:

he looks at his lips at the movie theater. when have we ever seen something like that with mike and el?

stayed with mike for like 2 whole days when he was flayed in s2. he literally never left his side until they went to hops cabin.

hes a lot softer with will when el isnt there. this goes for s2 and s4. without the distraction of needed to play the Straight Boyfriend role he’s just nice and sweet with will instead of being an asshole like he was at the beginning of this season and in s3. the moment el leaves mike tells him that he felt like he lost him and they work better as a team.

in conclusion: mike gay. happy pride.

Sure. This all stemmed from me reblogging a gifset of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman years ago and some anonymous person sending me an ask criticizing me for supporting Israel by doing that or something, which is a beyond absurd reason for all of this to have started, but I made the mistake of engaging with it.

So, to give a short rundown of how I feel about things, I do not support the government of Israel, I do not think Israel should have been created in the first place, but I recognize that it was created and that the people there, who are mostly descendants of literal Holocaust refugees, are not uniformly and universally responsible for the crimes that have been carried out by the state of Israel.

It would be great if we could go back to post-WWII and get a takeback and undo all of the horrific shit that has been done, but we can't, and I don't think that blaming the people of Israel for being born where they were born is a reasonable solution to this problem. We can absolutely take the state of Israel to task now for the oppression and brutality that they continue to engage in, but I think that treating normal Israeli people as if they are inherently bad by virtue of existing where they exist is kind of a disturbing line of thought to go down.

Similarly, a lot of anti-Israel sentiment has personally made me uncomfortable not just because it seems to be misplaced, but at least in my personal experience (which I obviously cannot say applies broadly to the entire world), a lot of the anti-Israel sentiment that I have encountered has served as a politically acceptable mask for outright antisemetism.

Further than that, the casualness with which people paint all Israeli people and oftentimes all Jewish people as criminals because of the actions of the state of Israel makes me very uncomfortable. As someone who has quite a few Jewish friends, I can say that again, at least in my experience, the amount of harassment that they have encountered because they are Jewish and because Israel exists makes me really unsettled, which is one of the reasons that I as a non-Jewish person feel a need to distinguish between the actions of a government versus the actions of the people that may be affected by it. I mean, I definitely don't want to be condemned for all of the horrific shit that the American government has done that I actively disagree with, and I am further baffled by the fact that American Jewish people are so often pressured and harassed into condemning Israel, a country that they likely have nothing to do with and have never even been to, in what seems like an attempt to force them to prove that they are one of the "good ones."

With all of that said, I was having a discussion off the cuff about Gal Gadot of all fucking things and maybe didn't express myself as clearly as I should have, but I didn't realize that people would be screenshotting what I was saying and posting it on Twitter years later. To be honest I know fuck all about Gal Gadot and was mostly reacting to the implication that she deserves criticism solely for the fact that she is from Israel and was conscripted into the IDF like every other Israeli citizen, which I thought was absurd then and think is absurd now. If she has said anything problematic beyond that I don't support it, but I'm not a fan of hers or knowledgeable about her as a person, and I don't think anyone deserves to be dragged by virtue of their place of birth or government required service.

Ultimately I said what I said and if someone has a problem with it then they are 100% in the right to call me out for it, I don't want to hold anyone to a standard that I wouldn't hold myself to and I think it is fair to criticize anyone for saying what they said. But I wouldn't say the exact same things in the exact same way now, and I would have been more thoughtful about the entire situation had I known that it was going to be something repeatedly brought up years after the fact.

If whatever I said before or whatever I'm saying now makes you not want to support me or my content anymore that is 100% fine, going against your personal beliefs about real-world and serious topics just because someone makes some content about a TV show or book you like is not worth it, and if anyone does not want to support me for any reason ever, that's fine. Everyone has parameters for what they are okay with and not okay with, and if I have ever done anything that someone else is not okay with, then I am not here to argue with it or justify myself. I can only express my feelings and opinions as they are now, and I can't say that they won't change in the future because I don't ever want to stop learning or growing.

And I'm sorry for this absurdly long explanation, but it is a serious topic that I get repeated questions about and I understand that as my social media profile grows I will probably get more questions and criticism about it, so I would like to have one big reference post to explain exactly how I feel and where I'm coming from.

I feel like "wildest ride" could mean so many different things. Like, content wise, just on the basis of it existing? ABSOLUTELY A Soft October Night, mainly because I don't think I'd ever gone as far as "Incest Murder Threesome" before. (I will make no promises that I won't do so AGAIN, but it definitely is a shocker from the usual.)

Though this is ALSO from the same creative team that brought you "Romeo has sex with the personification of Death on a crucifix" and "Ronan and Lazare have sex on a printing press" (which seems MUCH tamer compared to the other two), so, really, you can pick your poison.

As far as plot? Either The Midnight Mass or Pour la Peine, depending on if you think "Ronan discovers his old friends are zombies that want to kill him" or "The Thing that happens in Pour la Peine that changes the whole plot" is more shocking. (Personally, I am still REALLY proud of that twist in PLP, since I'd sat on that for years.)

If you're talking about in a crackficky sense? ...I mean. Goosefic. Goosefic. The fic that solidified my reputation in the 1789 fandom. If I say so myself, every single fic I've listed before that has some larger motivation for why it's Like That. Goosefic was just me reading a writing prompt and thinking "I want Lazare to get chased by a pissed off goose." And it is beautiful.

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

I don't think it's a SECRET I'm working on writing out my playthrough of BG3, or at least. Key parts of it. (I am NOT. Novelizing. An 125 hour playthrough. Yet.) I have about 11k words into it at the moment, but I'm not publishing a word of it until it's in a place where I know I can very likely finish it, or at least make a dent. We are NOT doing that thing where I just publish one chapter, hit a major bout of writer's block, and can't go through with it. (I can't make any promises for AFTER one chapter.)

It deals, primarily, with Kitrye's Happy Fun Times in the game, her ongoing verbal game of cat and mouse with Raphael, her relationship with her sister, and her relationship with her culture, as well as her overall development during the course of the game. (I don't really consider it a spoiler, given I put it in an actual gifset, that Kitrye breaks her oath as a paladin at one point -- there is a LOT dedicated to the circumstances around that and how it changes the game, even though that's a late development.) A spoiler that literally only you and a couple of people will understand and so I can give without any worry is:

"Ich will dich nicht, ich brauch' dich nicht. GEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."

(Honestly, thus far, it's looking like how I'm writing out every act is taking inspiration from something else. Like, if Pour la Peine and its related stories drew a lot of inspiration from the Evilious Chronicles, I would say that the third act in particular is very, very Elisabeth tinted if you know where to look; second act is looking to have at least one scene inspired by a very memorable moment from one of the branches of the Mabinogi; and the first act, which is still the roughest, is a little bit more up in the air, with all of them borrowing at least a LITTLE bit from The Last Trial.)

Idk if anyone follows my posts enough to even notice this but you may have seen me talking about a lot of new things I've watched so far this year, both tv and film. I kind of made a mini resolution to do this because I found, especially at the end of 2023, that I was stuck in a rut of either rewatching old things or mindlessly flipping through YouTube videos I had little to no interest in. There's so much media out there I'm interested in and now I feel almost reinvigorated to go through it and I've been having a blast.

Most of the time I'll probably just reblog a gifset or two with thoughts in the tags but I finally watched the Interview with the Vampire tv show and I have FEELINGS (mostly good)! Spoilers for season one and I do talk about book things that eventually happen so beware in case you don't know and want to continue the show completely blind...

So I kinda put off watching this at first because the Vampire Chronicles books are some of my favourites, and while it did have its own issues, the 1994 film holds a special place in my heart. I was like... do we really need anything else? But I'm glad I gave it a chance because the show was able to go so much further in so many aspects and also now we have a chance to actually see even more of the book events take place!

I'm gonna say up front that almost every character felt very different from how they are in the book except for Lestat. Lestat was actual perfection and I cannot BELIEVE someone did a (dare I say) even better job than Tom Cruise who gave the performance of his life in the film. Sam Reid's Lestat is unhinged and dramatic and terrifying and sad and cringe and yet also loveable and it was a masterpiece of acting. For the majority of the other characters I really didn't mind the differences and in some instances I thought they were actually improved. Daniel Molloy, for example, who is basically Anthony Bourdain? Perfection. Louis who is yes kind of pathetic and dramatic like the book, but also is volatile and complicated which Lestat is drawn to right from the beginning instead of only after having his little breakdown caused by his brother's death? Excellent. Armand who is older and looks nothing like the Armand described in the books but I can see without any problem how Marius fell madly deeply insanely in love with him because he's GORGEOUS and has this unsettling serenity about him? Give. Me. MORE.

The only issue I really had was with Claudia. I see people praising her all over the place so I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion but I hated that they aged her up so much. The most compelling thing about Claudia as a character is that she is an adult woman trapped in the body of a literal CHILD. A pre-pubescent child. Not a teenager. It's absolutely horrifying and it should be horrifying. Now, I will say, I saw an article where they talked about part of the reason behind this choice being that they needed the actor to work longer hours and it was impossible for a kid to do that, plus the very intense material, and I fully FULLY support any protections for child actors because the industry is insane. But it does make me sad and I wish there was some way they could have worked around it. I get what they tried to do with teenage Claudia but it just fell flat for me. And also the actress really looks her age (I think she's 20?) so like the few times where people were making fun of her for "playing dress up" or whatever I'm like... she fully looks like an older teen at LEAST what are you talking about lol. Also I thought her accent was kind of bad.

But honestly, that was really the only problem I had with the whole series. I absolutely loved how they went full-on explicit with the Lestat/Louis romance and the chemistry between the two of them was... WOOF. I was actually really interested in the modern portions too, mostly because Anthony Bour-- I mean Daniel Molloy was so entertaining lol. I loved how he pushed and pushed at Louis and their whole back and forth was brilliant. Although putting on my archivist's hat for a second to be outraged at Daniel consenting to wearing the cotton gloves to handle the diaries but then eating a fucking sandwich right beside the book???? Absolutely not lol. It was so much fun to see the Armand reveal (which I was spoiled for somehow but that's ok) especially knowing that Armand eventually turns Daniel and boy oh boy I hope they go long enough to get to that. I loved the continued references to Lestat's love of music which makes me hope they're planting seeds to make rock star Lestat a little more believable lol (god can you even imagine?? And we don't talk about the Queen of the Damned movie ok).

As for S2, I'm so excited for Paris and the Théâtre des Vampires and HELLO Ben Daniels as Santiago!!! Omg so hype for that. And it's going to be so interesting to see the Armand/Louis relationship as well because I mean it's always going to be Lestat/Louis and Armand/Marius for me so Louis being like "he's the love of my life"... girl. (And speaking of Armand/Marius please GOD give us some flashbacks because they are my Vampire Chronicles OTP and I need to see that whole story including my girl Bianca thank youuuuu).

Yeah so overall I'm quite positive about the whole thing and sincerely hope that they get many more seasons because there's so many interesting stories in those books and we've only ever gotten a TINY portion on screen.

i know we've only had one episode, but i honestly think top is as shallow as a fucking puddle and what we've already seen of his slightly more hidden manipulations is as deep as he gets. personality-wise, i think he would be chuckles (aka humorous) - i think he'd be very charming and sarcastic, always scheming but rarely directly aggressive. and speaking of being indirect, he also gives me double-wielding rogue vibes all the way - a backstabber both literally and metaphorically.

in terms of the party, i reckon he'd have a pretty antagonistic relationship with all of them, to various degrees. don't get me wrong, this man can act extremely appealing to literally anyone he'd like to fuck, but the thing about the da2 party is i think each of them has been through so much shit that they are not naive enough to fall for any of it. i'm not sure if we know top's sexuality atm, but out of all da2 companions, the only person who could potentially fuck top would be isabela, and she would do it because she would know exactly who he is as a person and not because she is oblivious to it.

speaking of isabela, i stand by what i said in the tags - she would think he's occasionally funny and extremely alluring. but, as i said, at the end of the day she'd see right through him, so it would be a line between understanding his selfishness and his way of thinking and simultaneously keeping to herself because of the very same thing. anyone who befriended or romanced izzy knows that creating that deep connection with her implies loyalty to her and certain... if not sacrifices then difficult choices that make hawke's life harder because they are trying to help her. that's not something top would do in a million years. i am honestly a bit on the fence on whether she would even return with the relic at the end of act 2, but if she does, top would give her over to the arishok without blinking an eye.

it's kind of hard to make varric disapprove of any hawke, to be completely honest, and i think top would actually be pretty chill with him, because he's a funny guy. and he's helpful. but when push comes to shove, top would still be a dick, and the whole bartrand / red lirium situation would be dealt with in the worst way possible, which would strain their relationship quite a bit.

bethany is a sweet little girl and she loves her sibling dearly, to the point that i believe it's literally impossible to max out a rivalry with her in game no matter what you do. but since top seems like a very "ends justify the means" guy and his ends are very selfish, he'd do some things bethany wouldn't be a fan of. i don't think top would really care about the mage / templar conflict, but he would be choosing the routes that save his own skin first and foremost, which are rarely the pro-mage routes, and that would definitely sour his relationship with bethany.

merrill, i reckon, would have a very distant relationship with top and would probably just try to stay away from him as often as possible. aveline and sebastian (along with andraste on his crotch) would be very *clutches the pearls* about him and would dislike him severely. however, i don't think anyone would hate top as much as fenris and anders. his special brand of selfishness, over-confidence, and bravado is something both of them would hate in ways more similar than they could ever admit.

in general, i think top would always choose what's best for him. he wouldn't ask a lot of questions about who it would otherwise benefit or why, who it could hurt, etc. he would help, but only if you paid him. he would lie and he would cheat, if that served him better in the moment, and he would be honest and direct, if that was the choice that would lead to him coming out on top (pun intended). he wouldn't care about what's right or what's good, he would very much only care about himself.

this kind of makes it a bit harder to make out what his final decision in terms of the conflict would be, because - unless a hawke vehemently supports templars throughout the whole game, which top would not do, or a hawke is a mage, which top wouldn't be - there isn't really anything personal that one would gain in siding with either. at that point, it is simply a moral choice. with a very easy answer, obviously supporting mages is the only right choice, but it's easy for people who actually care about doing the right thing, which top obviously doesn't give a shit about. but at the end of the day, i think h would side with the mages, if not for any reason other than him enjoying chaos and having a deep-rooted value of freedom.

so yes, that's the general vibe i'm getting from Top Hawke jgkldfjgklfdjkgl. thank you so much for asking, this was fun!!

HELLO AL HAPPY MONDAY!!! And thanks for the ask these are fun AND made me actually put down thoughts on an AU I had never actually framed out to myself before!!!!

Answers under the cut for length and pretension, but in short: thoughts on a Solaris AU and brief Mad Men mention; being more mercenary with my writing; yes to fanart/comics and a mayyyybe to podficcing!!!

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

OHHH never brave enough to TRY... Nothing coming immediately to mind (besides maybe wanting to get better at writing sex lmao) but if pressed? I do love doing sort of weird AUs and have been slowly quietly only 1% seriously kicking around the idea of a Solaris AU take on MASH. Love the book, going to see the film for the first time Thursday, so we’ll see if that actually kicks something off for me?? Anyway I think it would be really fucking good. And weird. I think it’d be fun to play with that theme of hitting the edge of what it is possible for humans to understand, and staring down the absolutely alien / non-negotiably and permanently inexplicable. I want to put Hawkeye in a ship by himself and have the sentient ocean gently tune into his brainwaves and reproduce in its infinitely changing depths a scene of such horrific uncanniness it is nearly unbearable to observe and makes him temporarily insane. And then BJ of course is the one haunted by the imperfect (and unkillable and superhumanly strong) alien reproduction of his family. Etc. Lots here to have fun with. But Good God The Work Involved. Anyway. That or I’d love to try my hand at a Mad Men fic playing with the beloved Peggy/Stan/Ginsberg dynamic in some formation. HOORAY!

12. Will you change anything about the way you edit or rewrite this year?

Maybe???? I tried a few different things in my approach to All Octobers that I thought paid off. Or at least I still kind of like it even though it’s a few months old now, so that feels like a good sign?? Most of the changes took place in the writing stage, but I tried to be more mercenary with my editing, stricter especially with non-unique or already-extant similes, metaphors, etc., and willing to Gloss / Summarize. It’s The Year of Montage, Baby!!!!!! <- guy high off his ass on and irreparably damaged by hundreds of pages of film theory per week (if that didn’t already come thru in the . Endless meditation on the real / the sign / the image / the lens in All Octobers. Sorry LMAO).

13. Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic? 

YES! Fanart for sure!! I want to get back into drawing regularly if possible. Also if I can draw BJ and Hawk I can then start trying to do sort of — illustrated things (always thinking about Guide to Looking at Explosions for something I wish I had the skillset for, for example!!). Also I thought podficcing was fun to try and I may give it a shot again sometime, but also it’s a lot of work and a huge time suck for something not many people enjoy and which I also don’t get much out of after the literal act of recording it (love reading aloud!! but listening to my own voice… 😧)

I'm sorry but what is Bix anon going on about? You are allowed to be cautiously optimistic about a ship before watching a canon but then be disappointed when you get to actually watch it. They've given us little reason to ship them so far and I highly doubt that they're getting back together after everything that's happened. And I'll take a past relationship that didn't work out over some forced doomed romance that he never got over with bonus fridging.

i wrote a whole thing and then idk deleted it and its gone so anon just know that i agree, and i stg im not trying to be a hater or something im trying to be realistic here, there's no way it ends well at this point. the show has been pointing out how cassian is not emotionally available at this point - i went into more details about a gifset im working on but fuck it im not rewriting it all lol

from the moment we meet cassian he's got visual boundaries between him and all the hotties he's into like it's not a coincidence that this keeps happening, and that the first time we meet bix there's a literal reference to cassian's future (his endgame if you will) by bix's current boyfriend like ??? of course the point is that cassian is isolated, alone and not in a place that he can or is willing to work on that. fuck, his girlfriend on niamos is literally introduced with her in bed and a wall between them LOL like it's not subtle. he looks for connection but isn't willing to do what he needs to do to have a true, whole connection (be honest with himself mainly but also with bix he literally tells her he doesn't want a partner and then it's up to her to enforce their boundaries).

you can even come at it from a non-rebelcaptain shipping pov: cassian is most himself, most connected with people, when he's being honest with his values and his beliefs. when he's with the rebellion, when he's home. by rogue one, he has collected friends and loved ones who are in the fight with him. he finally is honest with himself about his wants and needs - this is shown on eadu and then later on yavin - and is able to really build a family unit.

if you look at cassian's words to jyn, welcome home, as more than just him giving HER a home, but also him finding that he wants to do more than just isolate himself and fight in the shadows (fighting with a family, in broad daylight), then it makes even more sense that cassian would not always be able to have emotional intimacy in his younger years.

i'm all for him having healthy relationships and i do think he does (headcanon away babyyy, i mean he and melshi's first date is starting a revolution) but i don't think the show is giving us that with bix and cassian. i think for better or for worse she is part of a home that he didn't choose, that he was forced to assimilate into. i don't love that lol i think that's disappointing, but it does work narratively in the context of the show.
