How do I get myself to stop getting stuck on the little things when writing fics? I'll have everything planned out and ready to go, but the second I start actually writing I end up redoing each paragraph up to 6 times each, and I spend probably a good 20 minutes focusing on whether to put the word 'to' instead of 'of', or 'and' instead of 'but'. It makes short fics sometimes months long projects and it's so annoying! I end up getting so frustrated over these teeny tiny things that I have to just stop writing altogether cause it ruins my mood. Any tips? Words of encouragement? I just have so many wips I want to finish and am constantly burning myself out from obsessing over things that don't matter...

(Lmfao, even typing this up I rewrote it twice and changed a bunch of words!! I can't stop!!)

Oof! That sounds rough, anon. I can give you a couple of tips for getting over it in the moment, but you might want to dig a bit deeper into why you're doing this. Is this level of perfectionism and scrupulosity something that you have in other areas of your life? What is it about writing that sends you into this state?

I think one thing you might want to try is writing with no plan to post. If no one else will see it, perhaps you'll be able to relax a little bit. So often, our desire to make everything just right is more about escaping the shame of being wrong than it is about wanting something to turn out well. If you're worried that someone else will notice an error that you didn't, you'll spend all of your time focusing on not making a mistake and less and less time focusing on telling a story or having fun.

Another thing you could try is working in a digital medium like google docs and changing the text colour to match the page colour. Force yourself to just type for a certain number of pages or a certain period of time and only then switch the font colour back so that you're able to read back what you wrote.

Editing sentence by sentence or word by word is definitely a situation where you're looking at the trees and ignoring the entire forest. Try to get yourself back to thinking about the story instead of the words you're using to tell it. That might mean stepping back from writing anything down at all. Think the story. Tell the story. Voice record it and play it back, even. Whatever you need to do to let go of the individual words so that you can find the whole tale.

Super tiny fonts and aesthetic crap is a huge turnoff for me -- I salute your anon for continuing with that fic in the first place. If unusual formatting is unrelated to the storytelling, it kicks you out of the fic every time you have to squint, because the presence of the author is so annoying it's like they're sitting there breathing down your neck. It's also unforgivably inconsiderate of people with poor eyesight. I usually hit backspace as soon as I find any deliberately hard-to-read font or appearance. Also, maybe it's my weirdly anxious brain or bad experiences losing work, but I'm amazed at all the people like your anon who find long one-shots a problem because they can't mark their place in the fic. If it's happened enough to become an issue, why don't ppl download the fics? Like, as soon as you open the fic itself on ao3 to start reading, even though you're not sure if you'll like it enough to finish it, download it. You can always delete it later if you don't like it. If you download it, you'll open it using your phone's pdf reader (I use MoonReader). If you have to stop reading for any reason, the app keeps the fic where you left it so you don't have to mark anything. Although to be honest that baffles me as well. I can't imagine struggling to find your place. Isn't the story like, consuming you 24/7? Isn't the place where you stopped haunting you enough that you have the closest distinctive phrase or word to it memorized so you can then CTRL F it (or search for it, if you're on your phone) to find your place again?

I don't know -- I dislike chapters and prefer super long one-shots. Then again I'm weird and usually the minority when it comes to most things (in both fic and RL). I'm the same anon who doesn't comment on fics by authors begging for comments or threatening to stop the fic or whining abt having to stop writing a new chapter because there's no interest (even though ppl are still leaving kudos, which I can see because the number of names newer than mine on the kudos list keeps increasing), while most ppl I see astonishingly (to me) love actually interacting with the author. *shudders* That to me is like seeing, I don't know, your favorite celeb and actually willingly going towards them for an autograph or a selfie etc. If I run into a celeb I like I don't even make eye contact. So maybe the norm for ppl is to hate long one-shots. I don't know. I love them. But yeah -- if it's such an issue it's ruining stories you enjoy, then consider downloading? It's also a safeguard that has never failed me when authors suddenly delete their fics, and if you read obscure ones, you discover no one else has them saved, so you can never find them again.

This one. We post it, most of the time on Twitter, when someone wrote something particularly stupid, didn't understand the topic or blatantly lied:

"But...you wrote a bunch of nonsense!"

"Why ? Is it bad ?"

I love it because it's particularly petty. From the absurd dialog to the childish font to the little characters, I think it conveys all the condescension you need to answer stupid people on the internet.

There's also another a meme that I find fascinating by what it created artistically. I don't like it per se but its various iterations are quite interesting. So, it started by a screenshot from the show C'est mon choix (It's my choice) and the quote "il a pas tort" ("he's not wrong") from the guy on the left (a completely misogynistic a-hole who found no problem in the fact that the girl's BF wanted to leave her (or left her?) because she was "too fat". )

The frame of the guy saying "he's not wrong" became a meme ...

...and was posted every time, you guessed it, that someone was saying something where they were "not wrong" (often used to play devil's advocate about something a bit problematic, though). Except that, people started to "meme the meme" and to simplify the picture to the extreme. At first, it was just by illustrated versions of the original meme:

...and not even posted with the mention "he's not wrong" because everybody knew what it was all about. The simplification carried on so much that color palettes and strokes were enough to convey the meme:

sorry for the delay anon, i wanted to take the time to potentially take some better pics and i had a very busy evening last night lol. tattoo tour under the cut!!!

my futct keyhole tattoo was my first tattoo gotten at the beginning of february :3 i can’t wait to go back to this artist bc she killed it but it also was my most expensive tattoo (understandably so) so i need to save up but i have more non fob ideas i want to take to her based on her portfolio. it’s a little purple cuz this is from when it was still fresh and the purple is from the stencil but i feel a lil self conscious about my arm rn so i can’t take a better pic rn lol it’s not purple tho

this one was the second one i got and it’s a difficult location for me to photograph since this is on the outside of my ankle lol. i got this one incredibly impulsively near the end of february, bc i had a stressful evening and before going to bed i looked up tattoo shops near me that had online booking availability for the next day, and i booked after looking at the guy’s portfolio a bit even tho he practices more traditional styles n traditional tattoos aren’t my fav. i really wanted to get something special to remember my 8ball, and i was really excited and proud about coming up with this idea on my own!! this one i was slightly upset with at first bc i just think i should have waited but now that ive gotten used to it i appreciate it soooo much more!!!! and now im really happy and think it looks cool :) also this one hurt like a BITCH i wasn’t expecting it given the relative ease of my first one (the shading was rough on the first one but that was it), and the guy even offered me numbing spray for the black, but i powered through and he was very impressed with me and said i was tough lol :)

these next two i got at the same time and for some reason i can’t take a good pic of the one rn (it’s got a lot of adhesive on it from removing the second skin so it looks kinda bad right at this moment until the adhesive washes off more, but beware the second picture has a little bit of blood)

pls don’t make fun of my chubby arm but anyways these two i got at the same time just this past saturday from a lady who specializes in tiny tattoos :) the xo is based on how it actually appears on the back of the record, and she tried to font match it and i think it’s soooooooo cute (it’s rly little on my wrist, so little she just charged me for the i swear i say tattoo!!!). i know it’s kind of crazy to get two tattoos for the same song but 1) that’s my song im the number one highest streamer on stats fm, 2) xo has gotten me through so much :( i am considering one more xo tattoo in the future (getting “love never wanted me but i took it anyway” in pete’s handwriting using the font someone made out of his handwriting). but it’s my plan to wait on that one and make that be a far future tattoo, UNLESS they play xo as my 8ball in which case my ass will get it the next chance i get. lol

I'm sorry , but Anon is lying down. Those blogs are not just Tom fans. A few weeks ago was they were only covering Challengers press. They all kept up with her press interviews, and most of the blogs and anons watched the film. Before that, it was dune, and there was so much Dune content that was all what we were talking about. Now that it's Tom turn to shine, some anons are pissed for no reason, lol. Challengers and Dune are out, so why are you mad? Go watch them again and write about her performance, and then we can have discourse. You solo fans sometimes are so bitter for no reason. They are both talented and successful. We like them both equally. Tom going on stage is a big thing for him personally because he's worked hard, and praising him doesn't take away from Z's success.

On Twitter, Z gets a ton of support sometimes from ppl who also hate Tom. I know that isn't the majority of her fanbase, but because she was a child star, they are so entitled to her because she used to be so available to you guys, and imo that was a mistake. Well, I did say that I don’t believe what that anon said is true. Still, I maintain my stance that most of the blogs aren’t as described by that anon. I don’t want to generalize to all, as I'm unsure of who all we’re referring to, but the ones I follow definitely don't fit that description. But also, policing blogs just doesn’t make any sense since, as I've mentioned, you can simply unfollow if you don’t like what they post.

Regarding Z fans who hate Tom, I believe they're also a vocal minority, and to be completely honest, I think that the hate towards Tom coming from Z’s fans is often exaggerated on here. Whenever it's discussed, only two or three Twitter accounts are typically mentioned (from what I've seen, I don’t closely follow these convos), which is obviously a tiny fraction compared to the total number of Z fan accounts. Hi, everyone!

I wanted to start this by saying thank you to everyone who understood my need to take a break from here. Thank you so much.

Second of all, I would like to talk a little about what was making me so uncomfortable that I decided I wasn’t able to be my kindest self when answering or talking about it, even though at the biggest point of hate during January and early February, I was okay.

I made some difficult decisions during these months, to bring some happiness and silly banter to some very stressful moments. This included talking about topics I am not completely comfortable about talking, including talking about Percy’s dating life. And I talked about it, as long as it wasn’t disrespectful, and people weren’t trying to either pass judgment or try and control his life.

However, over the past 15 days, I have received more and more asks just plain disregarding any respect about him as a person (with feelings and the right to privacy), trying to pass judgment over his SUPPOSED choices in life, or trying to control his life.

It’s not our place as FANS to pass judgment. To try and control his life. Or to pry on his private life.

I had a lot of people trying to justify it. Saying “oh everyone already knows”, “haters shared it first”. And honestly, I think we should always aim to be better than haters. To behave in a way that wouldn’t make Percy (or anyone you’re a fan of) angry, or afraid, or uncomfortable.

So many people complained about how Jenna fans always tried to control her life. Let me tell you, some of the asks I got here… weren’t any better. It was the same story, in a different font. So take a few moments to think over everything, and ask yourself: am I trying to put Percy in a tiny little box where I am only happy with him and support him if he doesn’t deviates from these parameters? Because if the answer is yes, my blog isn’t the place for you.

The last thing I would like to talk about, is how I have been chastised by some anons for “worrying too much” about Percy.

How much I do or do not worry, honestly, it’s my problem. Not no one else’s.

This is my blog. I always spoke my mind and my opinions, and I won’t be cowed into not speaking what I believe or feel due to an audience’s wishes.

If you don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s MY blog. I opened it up for you all because of Percy.

No one else could have made me come back into fandom life. Exactly because of this kind of behaviour.

I came out of my fandom retirement for Percy. Everything I have been doing is to try and help him. In any way I can. So honestly, if you don’t like how I have been doing stuff, that’s your right. But don’t come into my blog trying to make me change my behaviour as if I was an errant child.
