NEW RUSSIAN HOLMES IS 10 YEARS OLD
NOVEMBER 18TH 2023 IT IS TODAY, EXACTLY 10 YEARS AGO BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Celebratory cheers to @sve-tka, @nitefise-art, proofreaders including @cosmoglaut, @charliebrown1234, @shaddicted, @221bees, @kheldars and formerly @lxgique, it was That long ago! @clara-kaino thank you for keeping the tag alive.
There has been so many things said over those years that it feels redundant to repeat them again, so I will attempt to say something new for the occasion
I think I realised why nrh has next to no discussions, while you're watching it, it never feels complete enough to start talking about, and after it's over, people either don't realise the full picture doesn't come within one watch, or the whole situation feels like it's beyond words. An actual sentiment I've seen, weirdly enough
The show's rewatachability value is insanely high, as someone who's been in this for a decade and seemingly Knows everything. Putting the plot together feels like step one to get out of the way, after that it's just piles upon piles of noticing details of characterisation, mannerisms, phrases, references. It never becomes old, every watch is so full of something new, it always feels fresh and eye-opening for the n-th time to watch. But the show itself never emphasises it so you don't ever feel the need to, the ultimate trickery.
Definitely swept under the rug is how important nrh was for the cast itself but because the show flopped, they kinda have to talk about it like it was nothing. Petrenko talks about that period as a massive catalyst for a lot of things in his personal life, Kavun the director never fails to mention that was 8 years of his life as well, but who cares at this point.
One time a person I won't tag here called nrh "kremlin propaganda" and reading that I physically felt losing about 7 years of my lifespan. It is especially funny since Kavun is Ukrainian and maybe I'm about to say something controversial and not exactly indisputable but themes of colonisation and such? That's not something that is on the mind of the colonist himself. Maybe a lot of what nrh is comes from the fact that its director slash writer is Ukrainian.
This show is a fantastic johnlock repellent. I love watching in real time how johnglockers join us for a watch and immediately start cranking out very dubious statements watching Holmes and Watson barely interact, and they vanish by episode two. Works without fail. It's almost a test of quality of sorts that works both ways, an average Holmes adaptation has by itself very little to provide in terms of themes, so average fans expect johnlock and literally nothing else. If an adaptation actually talks about something the way nrh does, it passes its own quality test, and if an average fan doesn't click off bc johnlock is all that they expect of an adaptation, that's a good fan right here Kappa
I always talk about nrh's non-existent fandom and I did talk about getting used to it to the point of gatekeeping almost. Don't think I ever expressed that the gatekeeping mostly comes from the point above maybe, because the bigger the community, the bigger the chances of seeing a braindead take on main so I'd rather have a population of 2.5 people that are cool rather than a fully-fledged modern 2023 fandom.
This is my personal opinion: never hid it that the series has a nice number of shortcomings and outright bad elements. Would I have preferred to change them? No. Wouldn't bear this show being all-around perfect and thus attract an easier audience, the way it is just attracts the correct crowd. Plus being perfectly good would lose all its personality that I think firmly incorporates its shortcomings, akin to just being a normal person with good and bad sides.
Holmes maybe takes his special spot in the general Holmes pantheon, Watson is often proclaimed as the best or one of the best Watsons ever, depends on personal preferences. Lestrade's feedback is being 100% the best Lestrade. There are different Watsons, there are different likings, but there isn't a better Lestrade.
I've uploaded the srts to opensubtitles ages ago, but how much that matters considering I don't even see the show on yt anymore plus when it was there, the timing would've been off, I don't know. But for some reason discovering subs was neigh impossible for almost a decade but at least not anymore.
Time to uncover the memes, see yall on this wonderful celebratory day o7

another tka live action thought
they had to cut samsara and zhou zekai out of the live action cause after casting gao hanyu as yu wenzhou there was no way they'd find anyone more handsome to play zhou zekai at that point

important question of the day: did the tka live action cast gao hanyu because they decided yu wenzhou was a dom. or did they decide to make yu wenzhou a dom because they cast gao hanyu.

BB2022 reflections
So I realized I said I would write up a post about my 2022 qzgs bigbang fic in like July, but I never got around to it, oops. But I just wanted to post something with my thoughts on wjx and why I portrayed him the way I did because this fic is special to me.
Take your time (Oh, how we've grown) - WJX/YX amnesia/time travel fic, 16k oneshot. romance, rated T.
Summary:
“Wang Jiexi, what season do you think it is now?”
Wang Jiexi frowned. “It’s midway through season 8, why?”
Ye Qiu closed his eyes, taking a moment to process this. “I think we need to get you to a doctor,” he said with careful measure. He drew in a deep breath before answering Wang Jiexi’s question. “It’s not season 8. It’s the summer before season 11.”
Spoilers below!
What I wanted from this fic was a Ye Xiu goes to Tiny Herb fix-it AU, except rather than detailing how Ye Xiu fixes everything, I wanted to explore what a more inclusive Tiny Herb would mean for Wang Jiexi and the rest of the team.
In my opinion, a lot of Tiny Herb's problems arise from how Wang Jiexi is set apart, or sets himself apart from the team.
The first and obvious way this occurs is because Wang Jiexi is the captain and ace player. Because of his skill and status, the younger players set him on a pedestal. Wang Jiexi is also not so great at communication or knowing what people are feeling in the moment, which feeds into the image of aloof captain. There has already been some discussion of this point on the TKAA discord, so I won't go too much into it.
But aside from the captaincy, I think age might also play into this dynamic of how Wang Jiexi holds himself apart. Wang Jiexi is often cast as a father-like figure because a big part of Tiny Herb skews young. According to what I found on the TKA wiki, like 6/11 members debuted in seasons 7 or 8. For the Wang Jiexi of season 8, those kids are all first- or second-year rookies who still need his support. In my fic, I also took the ~artistic liberty~ to make the older players on the team retire or transfer, further emphasizing the perceived age difference. So Wang Jiexi has this mentality that he needs to be the responsible adult that supports his kids while they grow. The problem with that is that he doesn't trust in them. He doesn't allow them any agency.
I like to think that the reason why Wang Jiexi takes this so seriously is because he had a hard time as a rookie. We know Wang Jiexi felt he had to suppress his own natural playstyle in order to coordinate with his teammates who couldn't keep up, but what does this say about the team environment or what that taught him? I imagined that maybe there was some frustration or even resentment from the other players, which taught him that the magician style (and thus Wang Jiexi) is not worth the time and effort it would take to learn how to coordinate with. So when he gets new teammates, instead of giving them the chance to get used to the magician playstyle, he continues to cut himself off, to suppress suppress suppress because that's what's best for the team. And because of this standard he holds for himself, he consciously or subconsciously believes that it's up to the players to mold themselves to the team. This is seen in canon, where he thinks maybe Qiao Yifan is better suited to a no-pressure mid-tier team. I'm not saying that team compatibility shouldn't matter, but rather that Wang Jiexi literally cannot envision a different team environment that puts less pressure on its players.
So that's why I think having Ye Xiu on the team would help Wang Jiexi work through those problems. Ye Xiu is older than Wang Jiexi and knows the responsibility of being captain, so he is able to break through Wang Jiexi's walls and allow him to not have to be the adult all the time. Ye Xiu also has the technical skill needed to show that coordination with the magician playstyle is possible and he's able to provide Wang Jiexi with a different perspective instead of letting him get caught up in his own head.
So having the WangYe dream team in Tiny Herb accomplishes what I really wanted for this fic, which was to see a Tiny Herb where everyone feels like a part of team. I thought a lot about character parallels in this fic and how everyone's experiences could show Wang Jiexi that he doesn't need to hold himself apart. And by the end, Wang Jiexi is able to let go of some of his tension and trust in himself and the team they've created.
Overall, I'm really proud of this fic even though I think it could be better and I was panicking about deadlines during the whole creation period. It was a self-indulgent idea with self-indulgent details, but it was a story I really wanted to tell. I hope that anyone who reads it will enjoy it too <3

As you might have guessed, I finished The King’s Avatar, as found on Netflix. Never run across the animated version, or original story, or whatever else that preceded it, so I went in blind -
and I adore this ridiculous show. It’s basically your typical sports film, about the spunky rag-tag found family of athletes who are bound and determined to Go All The Way in LocalSportsTournament, assisted by some Old Timer who stopped playing For Reasons - except it’s professional video games, and everyone is gorgeous and under 30.
I enjoyed the heck out of the “in game” sequences, which are well animated. Character design always entertained - admittedly while in the game the ladies tend not to believe in pants, the gentlemen tend not to believe in shirts (or at least full shirts) to the degree that I felt content in the representation.
Sometimes my WoW addicted brain would screech “that’s not how video games WORK”, but bowing to plot devices and Story Aesthetics meant that the feeling never lasted for long.
There were several...let’s go with “plot devices” that made me very uncomfortable, though I suspect that was more cultural differences and - from what I’ve skimmed - limitations of the subtitles and translation issues. However, none of that was of a sexual nature -
In fact, one of the bits that made me happiest about the whole story is that it’s found family, but there is NO romance. Oh, there’s lots of options if you want pairings*, but nobody’s trying to get into anyone’s pants. I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoyed that.
So yeah! Highly recommended, I enjoyed watching immensely!
*not sure what it says that there’s one set of people, that after maybe two minutes of watching their interaction I was certain that there must be so much dom/sub fic about them, but thank gods I have no interest in reading it so I haven’t gone looking. That’s hardly the only potential ship, just one of the more memorable ones.

The Favs Doc Fiasco
So, I have a doc titled “Favs Episodes” for the sole reason of listing when one of my favorites of a series appears, along with how prominent they were that episode. Ex: I did all of Shikamaru in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden (yes, every single episode I kinda scimmed through). HOWEVER, there is a slight problem. Cause you see I listed importance roles with the words ‘side character’ (SCH), ‘side cast’ (SC), ‘main cast’ (MC), and ‘main character’ (MCH). Now, just logically thinking, it is obvious for like changes in screen time.
AGAIN HOWEVER, I took a short break between filling the doc out after doing TKA LA and I don’t remember the order. So I did the obvious one, with SC - SCH - MC - MCH for Bull. But then I looked back at TKA LA (which I did for xsq, ywz, and zxj) for xsq scenes and I’m like “huh, I feel like this is a more MCH role but I have it under MC” (and again there are opposites of areas where it is MCH but it feels more MC, along with areas where it feels right) and then I look through FMAB for Roy and I’m like “wait but that wouldn’t match up for what I have in FMAB” and I would check through Shikamaru but do you know how many fucking episodes it would take to find out because Naruto Shippuden is fucking long and yes I would only have to look through a couple, but I’d have to sit through multiple different versions of each four roles. And just looking it over now, zxj (who btw, I only caught him appearing in like nine fucking episodes [and by appearing I mean he’s somewhere in the scene]) appears in a certain episode that I would label SC but I have it under SCH.
BUT ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT I’LL ALSO LABEL SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THE HECK OF IT.
Like character does something real funny or fucking awesome, fuck yeah let’s put it as MCH. So now I’m just trying to sort through this doc just to find out what order it is in. And honestly will probably go through Shikamaru bc that’s the first one I did and I wanna keep it consistent. (There’s also a huge ass chance that Naruto/Naruto Shippuden, FMAB, TKA LA, and Bull, all follow their own seperate listing of order)
Anyways so that’s my life update :).

Can i just get a one night stand with dallas, idc how it happened but yeah can i request that
He towers over you , casting a shadow that cools your heated body and warms it all at the same time . The sheer size of him making you feel so utterly small and delicate in those thick hands of his . Barely even a muscle flexed and he’s guiding your hips , sliding his cock in an out of your sloppy and stretched entrance .
You’re dizzy from it . From how he fills you , his thick veiny cock rubbing so deliciously over your walls , every twitch and throb you can feel , and you try to clench down but there’s so much you aren’t sure you can . All you and do is cling to the country man currently fucking you with all the ease of using a cock sleeve .
“Dal — Dallas !” His name is a desperate call of pleasure . A plead , to stop or for more you don’t know . All the same it catches his attention , moving from the way your hips looks so perfect slanting together , from the way he disappears into you , and he looks up . Dark , intense eyes met your , full of pleasures tears that fall fat and hot down your cheeks .
Low and rumbling he moans , lifting to kiss at your wet cheeks , his beard soft and scratchy against your skin . Never once stopping the assault of his hips against yours . “Don’t worry , Darlin’ I got ya . Gonna make ya feel good . Jus hold on tight and let me love ya .” He mummers it hot against your lips before tkaing a searing kiss . You almost suffocate from the intensity of it , but it doesn’t stop you from pulling him closer . From wrapping your legs around him and digging your heels into the small of his back .
A heated , passionate and blissed out one night stand with a farmer as you were passing by his small town . A sexual tyst you wouldn’t soon forget , and oh you would savor this one night . Savor how he felt as he sped up and you sobbed out broken pleas in an unsteady rhythm . You’d remember his stretch when you went on your way .
“Cum for me , darlin’ ? Let go jus for me .” You can’t deny such a deep , sultry voice , the sweet honeyed twang making you sob and gasp as you find your release . Dallas is soon to follow , taking one of your ankles to keep you steady while he finishes inside as deep as he can . You gasp , eyes wide as the heat seats your insides and makes you tremble . You almost don’t even notice the sound of a metal cuff closing around your ankle as Dallas leans over and peppers your face with kisses . “That’s it , jus lemme love ya . . .”
