Holiday Blues with Tumblr
The mornings are getting darker. The evenings are, too. It’s a little chillier, don't you think? Well, if you start feeling a little blue around the holidays, we might have something for you. We call it Holiday Blues, and it’s back for 2023.
You probably know the score by now. If you don’t, here’s a little intro to make your acquaintance. We are partnering with social good brands, mental health experts, and mindfulness aficionados to bring you the essential winter toolkit—and help you thrive during the darker months. Enough is happening right now to feel overwhelmed without these LONG, drawn-out days. If you suffer from S.A.D. (AKA seasonal depression) or struggle to offer yourself the right self-care, Tumblr and friends are bringing these small acts of nourishment straight to you. It takes very little time, very little energy, and doesn’t cost a thing.
How does it work?

How to install TS3 for the ✨chronically TS4✨
Getting back into TS3 posed a challenge for me as compared to TS4. It's a 10+ year old game and of course requires some extra TLC as compared to TS4. So I hope this guide will help y'all to get everything set up cleanly and smoothly! It took me three separate tries and if I can help the next person struggle less, then that's great. Happy simming!
You'll need a copy of TS3 and these resources:

The original mod from Ella does not work for current patch 1.69. I fixed it in s3pe with the help of some commenters on MTS so that it does actually remove the intro. If the creator happens to see this and would like this modified version removed, let me know.
How to clear cache by Carl's Guide
Got everything pulled up? Great! You're ready to start.
1. Download a FRESHLY INSTALLED copy of TS3 to your computer. If you're able, I'd highly recommend having all the packs you're wanting to own already so you don't have to do all of this again.
If you are redownloading the game for any reason (like me bc I was struggling lol), remove the existing TS3 folder in your documents and save it somewhere so you can keep all of your mods or worlds there. Back up any reshade stuff from the bin folder. Completely uninstall the game through the EA app/Steam. You may lose your saves and sims due to a change in script mods through this tutorial. This cannot be avoided, trust me I tried. But it's worth it for a smooth game.
2. Do a test launch so that the game generates a new TS3 Folder in your documents. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMS 3 PACKS THROUGH THE LAUNCHER! NO WORLDS, NO CLOTHES, NO HAIR COLORS, NOTHING. This will be very important later on when you merge your CC using CCMagic. If you need worlds or other CC there are alternative ways to obtain them.
3. CLEAR THE GENERATED CACHE
4. If you use EA and open to test anywhere between steps (which you shouldn't really need to after step 1 of the Bug Fix Guide) or after playing at any point, open up task manager and ensure that you end the tasks "EA" and "EA Background Services" before continuing. It doesn't really use much memory but I noticed that it caused stutters if it's open when launching using your shiny brand new Smooth Patch. It will look like this:
5. Begin following the steps in the Performance & Bug Fix guide. The first thing you'll do is set up your mods folder. Follow those steps exactly as they are in the guide, except use the No Intro mod I linked above instead of the one you get in that folder if you actually want the intro removed.
6. Continue to FOLLOW ALL REQUIRED STEPS IN THE GUIDE UNTIL YOU'RE DONE. I mean it, all of them one by one. Heck, if you're open/able to do the bonus and optional ones, I'd suggest doing those too.
7. Once you've completed that, go check out nectar-cellar's excellent post for tips and a fix to make the smooth patch to compatible with Master Controller. I will not be providing an edited version of this as LazyDutchess who created the Smooth Patch is still active and I want to respect their work.
8. If you've made it this far, you're doing great sweetie. Do another test launch through the patcher and if everything runs correctly it means you've done everything RIGHT. You're ready to start playing or downloading mods if you want!
If you do start downloading mods merging them will 100% be a must do if you want to maintain any sanity. You can use CCMagic to do so. I linked that handy lil video above!
Keep in mind script mods, overrides, patterns, and CC counters should NEVER be merged. Always check the creator's notes, yada yada. And always clean up your cache on a regular basis. Have fun y'all!

Adventure: On the Chopping Block
Haste makes waste, the slow and merciless trod of industry makes something else entirely
For centuries the people of the Towerpine woods kept to the old rites and offerings which allowed them to make their living from the forest while staying on the good side of the local fey. That was before the margrave came and built his damnable mill, which takes and takes without first asking and stains the sky with its fumes. Now not only has the ancient pact with the fey been transgressed but the people of the Towerpine have lost their living, unable to compete with the mill and its labouring constructs, which produce in a day what it took the whole region a week to cut and carve.
Things are reaching a breaking point, and if the heroes don't act quickly there be no telling just how far the devastation will reach.
Adventure Hooks:
A good way to get the party into the Towerpine woods (especially if you're using this as an intro adventure) is to have them as caravan guards escorting much needed supplies to the frontier region. After fending off some wildlife that's grown increasingly erratic thanks to the mill's disruption of their habitat, they sit down in a village's public house for an overdue rest only to be approached by a gang of malcontents intent on going up the hill and doing something about the mill. These people are absolutely correct in their grievance, but their righteous and somewhat drunken attempt at sabotage is going to end badly when the constructs that work supply the mill activate and look to deal with them as intruders. The party can witness this disater first hand, ending up captured or escaping into the woods, alternatively they might hear about it the next morning, when the villagers beseech them to intervene and rescue the surviving saboteurs from where they're being held at the mill.
Garvan Vimley is the sort of odious little man who gives progress a bad name. Placed in charge of the mill's operation, Mr. Vimley and his Towerpine Lumber Company ( ironically shortened to TLC on their branding ) care only about squeezing more profits from the region regardless of how much harm occurs in the process. He might just be willing to release the captured vandals, if the party agrees to find one of his oh-so-expensive logging constructs that's vanished in the past week after being sent with a team of surveyors (who are also missing, but not as valuable) into one of the forest's more wild regions. As it turns out, the construct has been hijacked by a group of the local fey, who are now bickering between destroying the thing for good, playing with their new toy, or winding it up and send it rampaging back towards the mill. Negotiating with the fey will be difficult, especially because they hold a few of the surviving surveyors in thrall and are more than willing to use them as bargining chips.
Future Adventures:
Regardless of what the party decides to do Vimley intends to use this latest attempt at sabotage as a means of convincing his noble patron to institute draconian measures, pettitioning the crown to enclose the commonly held Towerpine woods and thus making it illegal for anyone save the TLC to harvest wood in the region, which would not only force the locals out of business but force them to buy even their kindling from the profitmongering Vimley or else be branded thieves. This scheme is subtle, and if one of the now sympathetic surveyors doesn't tip them off it's going to require the party to do some independant snooping to even notice what's going on. Once things are in motion the report of the sabotage has to be intercepted before it reaches the Margrave, potentially in a daring chase through the forest. Even then it's only but even that's going to be only a temporary fix, they'll need to make a petition at the Margrave's court with evidence of Vimley's mismanagement, or perhaps even oust the Margrave himself before he gets the crown involved.
It's more than corruption and greed at work in the Towerpines, as the forest's ancient guardians are making their displeasure known in all manner of ways. Rampaging beasts, dangerous pranks, nightmares, and bad omens all beset the people at the edge of the forest. Even this is not enough for Illyurn, the youngest of a circle of dryads who have long held court in the shadow of the ancient pines. The elders of the circle are convinced that their mortal neighbours will heed their warnings, return to the old ways, but Illyurn has fewer memories of good will to hold her back, and her anger burns ever hotter. Fire sears away the rot and ushers in the new growth after all, and as the days pass and Illyurn more and more embodies this destructive aspect of nature the more her incendiary words will catch in the mind of her fellow fey and those most discontent of the villagers, transforming them into a blazing mob that will rage and rage and rage until the landscape is rendered into ash.
When the party intercede and end up having to put Illyurn down, she will choke out one final smoke-bitter curse: A doom for the party, for the mill, it's maker, and it's masters, may all they hold precious end in embers.

“ Did all this happen because I left?”
Pause girlies because this is actually kinda serious. I just got out of a depressive episode and just really wanted to give the depression girlies a lil treat. Remember: you need other people in your life when you have depression. Make friends not resources. I love y’all (angst)
How can something be so painful yet so numb at the same time? The human brain is one of the most complex systems in the universe, aside from the universe itself. How it can feel so many polar opposite things simoultaniouly, and in that creating an entire civil war within itself. How could the brain, the thing meant to be in charge with your care and wellbeing one day just decide to decrease its own activity and make you miserable? It was the worlds greatest betrayal.
You’d been lying in your bed for the past week, and you might have gotten up twice a day. Once to use the bathroom and the other to get some food and bring it right back to your bed. Everyone said it wasn’t a big deal because you were young and you were probably just in a bad mood because of your hormones. Hormones were evil enough to suction blood from your reproductive organs (usually) once a month, they couldn’t possibly be cruel enough for this.
On your overheated and whirling computer was an endless loop of lousy reality T.V shows you’d watched over and over. There’s been therapists that have said that in these times of depressive episodes, you should revert back to adding some life and movement back into your brain. Which meant doing things like crossword puzzles, working out, math games, and reading 200+ page books. All things that you could totally do and things you liked to do. But not right now. Now all you wanted was junk food and shitty TLC shows. Not some slow burn, or some huge mystery TV show that required you to remember tiny details from the beginning of the season. Reality TV was entertaining, effortless, and on loop but you’d be lying if you said everytime you heard the freaky eaters intro a little more of your brain died.
That’s the funny thing about depression. Because even though you can feel yourself slipping and drowning in total misery, there’s nothing anyone can do to save you. So you get stuck in this endless loop of self detructive behavior hoping that the pain you experience on the outside is enough to kill the thing on the inside.
You were clinically depressed, and nothing nobody did was ever going to change that. But these episodes weren’t always like this. For a while, episodes were bearable. Your ‘friend’ made them better.
You’d known Hiro for a while, meeting him on the downtown bus during sunset on a spring saturday. You thought he was cool, he thought you were pretty. But the whole girlfriend-boyfriend thing seemed uncomfortable and the labels meade things weird.
Granted you were each others first kiss. The two of you had tried to convince each other it was just because you got asked out to your eighth grade formal and you wanted to be prepared. It also didn’t help much that the more you described the dude that asked you out, the more Hiro wished he hadn’t skipped all those grades.
You never told anyone about that. Sure you could say it was a one time thing but it was hard to use that as a defense when you’d made out with him because you were bored under the dock near the beach during the summer carnival, and when you were just playing video games in his room, and when you were sitting on the steps of the museum of Japanese artifacts while sharing a soda, and the time you two were at the skatepark after it closed and you two were making out- only except that time he’d taken off his jacket.
Sure you were both fifteen but you watched people make out in the hallways at school everyday. Kissing didn’t seem like this massive thing. Hiro grew up isolated from the true highschool experience, he didn’t know. All he knew was that making out with you was cool and pretending he only did it because he was bored (and not because he would swear on his teen hormones that he loved you) was even cooler.
His aunt and brother had liked to tease you for it, but that’s all it was: teasing. The two of you would never live down the torment you’d likey face if they found out about your “I’m bored, let’s make out” sessions.
Speaking of, your mom didn’t really know you and Hiro were like that. She was only partly sure you liked him and you only thought that because one day after she caught you being particularly smiley that night after having him over to stream a new song she came into your room, played with your hair and said: “So you and Hiro are friends? That’s nice, he’s seems nice. Just, make sure he doesn’t make it worse.”
That was also kind of a silly depression thing: People and their influence could make it worse for you, others, and even themselves. Bad influence already makes bad people, but bad influence on people with depression tends to make them miserable, desperate, and self loathing.
But contrary to what your mom had said, Hiro didn’t make it worse. He made it better and she would soon figure that out after you’d tried texting him multiple times despite knowing he was at an expo outside the city. And he’d respond as fast as he could with the best messages, but when he’d go dead silent for almost ten hours each day it just dampened your mood. You’d kept reminding yourself not to be selfish, that your lack of ability to be happy shouldn’t stop people from living their lives. But from the hours of 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. you were left with no friend and a fat headache.

The intro to a show you couldn’t remember the name of played for the tenth time that day, drying out your eyes and causing an endless headache. You were surprised you hadn’t at least gotten a stomach ache from all the Tylenol you’d been taking. Someone knocked at your closed bedroom door before gently opening it.
“Y/n,” Your mom squinted through the darkness of your closed blinds and at the glowing computer screen. “There’s someone here to see you.”
With your back faced to her you couldn’t say anything other than a low, “Oh.”
She left for a bit as you continued to lay there, helpless almost dead. Thinking about death is something everyone does up to a certain extent. Questions like: How will I die? What comes next? Are ghosts real? All normal.
But when you and people like you thought about death it wasn’t like when other people thought about death.
Suddenly, your door creaked open and you didn’t even have the energy to look back but you just knew. Hiro had looked around at your depression room and sighed. He hadn’t even been around you for more than thirty seconds and he already wanted to cry. This was bad- so bad. The boy gently crept up to your bed and sat down. You felt the dent of his body in your mattress and still didn’t move.
“How are you?” His voice was quiet.
You responded barely above a whisper, “Fine.”
“When’s the last time you left this room?”
You didn’t even reply. At that moment, breathing was too much work. Having to think about the air going through your lungs and exhaling it out was a chore.
Hiro leaned over your body and shut the laptop closed before moving it off your head and placing his body in it’s spot. You two were now face to face, laying on your bed like the lovers of valdaro. It was bad this time and everyone knew it. Guilt had been eating him alive since he read the shift in your texts. How could he enjoy himself at this expo while you were there suffering?
“Did all of this happen because I wasn’t here?” He whispered.
You grabbed onto his hand. “No. I’ve always been like this.”
“Do you promise?”
“I swear it.”
“But it’s never been this bad before. If I was here then-”
“You couldn’t have done anything.” You cut him off. “Hiro I’ve been like this all my life. And you shouldn’t feel obligated to hold yourself back because I’m not normal.”
Once while playing around at the park at midnight you told Hiro that a therapist you had said these episodes will wax and wane. In the good there will be bad and in the bad there will be good. But there would never be moment where it would just be good. You’d be this way for the rest of your life, sad, in pain, and left with a feeling of mania and worthlessness. And there was nothing he could do about it.
“Do-” Hiro’s voice started to shake and a tear from my eye scurred across his face. “Do I at least make it any better?’
The thought of making it better by being there would in turn make him feel a little less guilty about not being able to be with you all the time.
For the first time in a week, you gave him a weak smile. No teeth, just lips. Before you leaned forward and gave him a prolonged kiss. In return, he brushed your hair from your face and started petting your head.
“Yes,” You whispered. “You do.”

Freesmart will be healthy! I loved the idea of them actually being a nice friend group lmao, and I'm going to try keep that! So probably not the most canon thing, (edit; definitely not the most canon thing) I might be a bit rusty with some characters too, but I will try my best to stay in character. Also, playing all of the characters is a new experience for me so it might take me a small while to get used to using them all!

Set in the It Could Be Better Universe

Intro
The small motel looks like any other from the outside. Maybe a little bit nicer than some you would pass on the highway. It's set back from the world hidden in the woods. It's advertised as a hidden hideaway for lovers but if anyone calls the number on the sign it's always fully booked.
Each room has the softest cotton sheets, some have mirrored ceilings, others have restraints built into the wall, some have poles to dance around. One room, an old windowless supply room, has a full rack that people can be tied to, right behind the sex swing.
The advertising is half right. Except it's more like a hotel for people looking for lovers. There is a special number connected as well as the commercial one. A number that only a few knew by word of mouth but it soon spread. You call the number to leave your details. A contact number and what fantasy you want to live.
You want a handsome cowboy to flirty his way into your heart and between your legs? He's stabled in room twelve.
You need a daring pilot to take you higher? Room five.
A little romance, TLC and gentle hands? You're in luck. Rooms eight, ten and fourteen are happy to help.
Fourteen also provides a rougher hand. The duality of him is as much a mystery as his face that he covers with a simple black mask.
Seven comes with additional warnings. Even with those, the women who stumble out of there are never really ready for him. There's just something about him that makes them feral.
Six is the same. The theory is that it's his ability to be so dark and brooding but hold so much gentleness in those big brown, soulful eyes. It's simply magnetic.
When they both have company you worry for the wall separating them as the beds slam into it.
Two was given a fitting room number as he is more than happy to take two at a time or more. He still manages to satisfy everyone. And still go looking for more company in the night. Speaking of…
Twenty five had to be given a room at the other end of the motel as people in nearby rooms were getting high off of his supply. Six makes sure that a little weed is the only drug that he has.
Nine mans the phone line. His way with words eased the jitters of anyone calling up. He occasionally indulges those who ask for him specially. His voice entices them. The loss of his arm is still so recent that he's having trouble adjusting to being physically intimate without it, yet not one complaint has been made about his performance.
Room one is saved for the boss. He doesn't work as much as the others, he's far too busy with his family. Any requests for him have to be negotiated with his fiancé, she knows exactly what he is worth.
I keep coming up with naughty ideas about our Pedro Boys that snowball into fics and then into series. 🤭
In an effort to keep that in check, and clear my wips, I'm going to channel my random naughty thoughts into a series of one-shots based at Max's new business venture.

30 day idol challenge - 23. emotional support
Maybe some say this day of the challenge is just another excuse to post a bit more of TLC, and well...maybe it is a little bit 😊 but there is more to this one...
This post is not just about being all huggy and cuddly in a 'having fun' kind of way, but in a more intimate moment of being there, like Richard leaning on the railing of the small stage (Göthenborg 2022), and Paul coming over to put an arm around him
Richard needing a moment at the end of the show (Berlin 2022, video by nadgahan, gif by @mrsfitzgerald ), and Paul giving him a soft squeeze, looking back to make sure he's okay
Or the end of the Mein Teil intro in Foxboro 2022 (another gif by @mrsfitzgerald ) where Richard softly rests his head on Paul's before moving on with the song
This bringing back memories of 2019 when Richard leaned over and put his head on Paul's shoulder, and Paul while still playing managed to lean in far enough so their cheeks just touch 🥰
And the emotional aspect really showed here, when in the Ausländer outro they didn't just kiss, but leaned in further
but my absolute favorite moment in this category is a moment that we have almost no good footage of, because it happened away from the limelight and out of sight from most of the audience (apart from the few on this side of the small stage in 2019, and who weren't following the rubber boats that were already in their way).
Paris 2019, when Paul was waiting to board, and Richard stepped up behind him, leaning on the railing. Paul looked at Richard and wrapped his arms around him for a hug, a quick kiss in the neck and an extra squeeze 🥰 In 2019 there was speculation that Richard wasn't comfortable with the boats, mostly because of another short look at a concert which showed the anxiety in his face, it did seem to improve in time (personally i think this is the reason Richard takes the autograph cards in the boats to sign and throw; to distract him on the way), and in 2022 he seemed to be okay. But this moment in 2019 was such a lovely soft moment between the two 🥰

Crystal Nuzlocke Introduction
Got a pretty resounding "yes" on my poll asking if people would be ok with me dumping my idea sessions here so yippee! Since the story relies on a fair bit of context, I figured it would be nice to make an intro post before I start getting into the details of everything. Below the cut so the dash isn't clogged!
What is this project: A multimedia (mixed novelization and comic) retelling of a nuzlocke playthrough I did of pokemon crystal called Tastes Like Chicken (TLC). When it's finished it'll be posted on AO3, mostly as a written story but with comics and full illustrations supplementing the prose pretty frequently
Why multimedia: Comics take too long but I still want the vibe of a Nuzlocke comic. This is a happy medium
Setting: Takes place in Johto but in the Legends era, so it's based extremely loosely on early Edo period Japan. The characters are the same from the original games, just reimagined into the legends time period. The biggest change is that animals AND Pokemon exist here, so Pokemon are treated like yokai and are revered and feared as almost divine / godly beings because of their power and magic. Those who train pokemon (gym leaders, who act as regional leaders / daimyo) are said to be connected to the gods and use that divine power to rule and protect their lands, and bow to more powerful trainers. Wild pokemon behave pretty similar to how they do in legends
Premise: About a year prior to the story, one of the daimyo (Giovanni) staged a coup to officially seize power from the shogunate (Lance) while backed by four of the region's other eight daimyo. The coup failed quietly, but has risen tensions everywhere among the region's elite who fear their status and power are being threatened. Meanwhile, having stole one of his father's pokemon, the shogunate's son hides out in a small village, taking scraps and handouts from the local butcher (Yuki, the protagonist). A chance encounter leads them both to reveal they have been training pokemon in secret-- Silver to protect himself, and Yuki because she's leaving town for good and going on an adventure of her own. Yuki discovered, almost by accident, that Pokemon taste very, VERY good and is raising a cyndaquil she befriended so she can travel around the region cooking every pokemon she can find, with her ultimate goal being to eat Ho-Oh. They travel around the region together, getting progressively more involved in the region's testy political climate despite their best efforts
Main Characters:
Yuki: A butcher who lives on the outskirts of New Bark. She discovred some time ago that pokemon are as delicious and edible as regular animals, and has befriended a cyndaquil from the nearby forest to help her cook, and eat them. When news of political unrest in New Bark reaches her, she takes it as a sign to leave the town for good and adventure around Johto in search of new things to try
Silver: The shogunate's son. He has been raised in a high stakes political environment and hates the Johtoian elite with a passion because of it. He ran away from home after stealing a pokemon from his father and lives as a skittish street kid in New Bark while he tries to figure out what to do. He ends up hanging around Yuki, who leaves out food for him, and chooses to travel with her when she leaves town because he'd rather hang out with a pokemon-eating weirdo than starve
Story Changes: Little disclaimer of sorts that a fair bit of stuff is changed from the original games here. This is a reimagining of the game that's set in a totally different time period, so a lot of the worldbuilding, character ages, teams, and overall story are pretty different from what's in the actual game
