it’s ya boi back with more commentary. and hopefully fewer screencaps bc i don’t actually have as much time as my wordy and useless rambles as well as the quarantine situation might suggest alas

- who’s talking in the opening line? kela?? if so, the voice is totally off, but the theme of “the world belongs to the strong” is consistent with quotes from him and themes from that whole arc

- i guess this is a dream / unconscious sequence... i’m sad to see him like this. also one of the analyses i read was like you can track when in the movie a scene probably takes place by the progression of the markings on his skin, which is very obvious and i should be paying attention to that more -

^ i really like this visual. and i like how the galaxy eyes designs are all so distinct

^ Alliance soldiers i think, guessing from the uniforms? bc I thought the Eyes had all black uniforms. but i’m not sure. actually it prob makes more sense it’s the Eyes. rip the one guy facing the wrong (?) direction

sound quality for the trailer was wack tbh. hopefully the movie won’t be like that.

i’m a little worried, actually, that this has lost the core of what made it so good. that it’s become cheap. but only time will tell. i’ll still have hope.

Yeah, it is in his mid battle dialogue. I asked bc I know Treehouse has the tendency to tweak things here and there and I'm not sure if that bit is supposed to be canon or not. He sounds like at least a 30 yo there haha

So I went sleuthing to find a real answer for u lmao bc it was bugging me that I wasn’t able to actually answer your question

It seems it��s his battle start phrase when you’re over-leveled and the enemy is all over the map........ or it may be a battle start phrase for the type of battle (he de facto says it in the Cordelia battle on the Hoshido side of “The Path is Yours” historical campaign, if you’re over level 30 (idk if he says it if you’re under))

which I only mention because, depending on the exact requirements needed to get that quote + the set of quotes he uses in the battle, may be an interesting look into his an aspect of his personality (one I am VERY excited about since it slots nicely into my theories)

but anyway! The quote makes a lot more sense within context. If it’s true that it’s something he only says when overleveled + a lot of enemies (or either one lol) the quote in context (and the context is the scenario just detailed + the fact that if he starts the battle with that quote, almost all of his quotes turn into something much more brutal/.....i guess I would say confident?) I can’t remember exactly the ways in that his quotes were different since the FE:W localization seems to be better in retaining Marx’s conqueror visage and therein the kind of “I’m Crown Prince of Nohr and I will absolutely wreck ur shit” vibe he has going for him, but they seemed kind of...... adrenaline fueled? Like he’s actually enjoying battle for once.

Which makes sense if you’re of the opinion of a couple things concerning Marx.

That he takes pride in the things he can do well, which very often include feats of strength (in the JPN version of Fates, many of his My Castle quotes enthusiastically detail things he’s done; more often than not it’s something like fighting in the arena, cleaving rocks in two to mine ore, etc)

He may or may not have been a bit of a blood knight in his youth, judging by his TCG card quotes where he’s still only a cavalier (so probably somewhere around Leon’s age, if not younger) + how reckless in training he used to be (ala Takumi’s Warriors Support with him)

With those two in mind, while Marx may be more mild mannered now, he still gets a thrill from putting in his best effort, but doesn’t always have the means to as Crown Prince whether from paperwork, or no one being able to stand up to him (a lot of supports mention paperwork; Frederick’s support details how Marx hasn’t had the opportunity to spar with someone who is good enough to actually teach him in a while)

Considering all of the above, his Japanese quote translates to “It isn’t bad to return to the naivete of youth every once in a while. With memories of those days fresh in my head, I’ll face them with my full power.”

I guess the thing that made me “???” about the quote is that out of context it feels like it’s commenting on physical age, which just...... is totally random with everything else they’ve been doing with his character? But seeing it in context, and especially in the Japanese version where the word 童心 is used (which specifically refers to a youthful/childlike mindset/innocence/naivete) rather than something like the verb 若返る which has physical connotations of feeling young again/being rejuvenated.

A little late again with my year in review weeeee

globally 2016 was awful, but it was a good year overall for me. Last year was better as a whole but this year was really fun too and I got to cross some things off of The List

Highlights:

Getting lost in the countryside back home with my dad. It sounds stupid, but it was so much fun. I’m not even sure how we got so painfully lost but it wasn’t expected, so we had to use an old PHYSICAL map from the 90s. It was fantastic seeing so much of the countryside TwT

I started the year in Busan w/Laura and lived out a small dream of seeing the sunrise at Haedundae beach <3 Easily the most fun new year I’ve had since like 2000.

I went to a looooot of concerts. Lots of SHINee, including their first stop for their JAT tour last year. Kyuhyun solo con (and I’m going to his next one in 2 weeks!) and Yesung solo con where he actually freaking came up to me and shook my hand and talked to me aksjdnsakj, DreamCon ft. Taemin&Vixx who were the faves that night. Vixx hi-touch in Fukuoka wasn’t a concert but!! YAH!! <3 (and Jamong open fansign) And Summer Sonic! PANIC!! Going to a not-kpop concert was so freaking refreshing haha, I like being able to understand the singers 100% xD And not to forgot KINGDOM HEEEAAAARTS concert too! I cried omg. So beautiful, I can’t wait to see it again in March, bigger and better <3

I got my hair cut short for REAL this time! I love it, but it’s so cold right now that I think I’m gonna grow it out for a while xD I got a fringe for the first time since I was a kid too and I adore it, that’s definitely staying.

My mom visited meeee!!

I had a lot of fun with friends. A LOT. I got to go to concerts with them, esp some I don’t get to see often (which tbh is most of my friends). I got to meet some for the first time in a while and in countries we probably didn’t think we’d ever manage to see each other in (I love that this keeps happening)

Had a night out in Fukuoka w/the girls from Yamaguchi and it was actually fun the whole night. That’s a real accomplishment, it was really really fun! They’re a good group.

POKÉMON GO and just Pokémon in general. the 20th anniversary made the whole year exciting, especially when going to the Pokémon Centers *u* And Coco having the Pokémon collab was amazing hahahaaa. My favorite things.

Taemin’s solos get their own bullet point. Press It era was amazing and beautiful. I don’t think I’d ever had so much fun with a comeback before, and...stress haha. I wanted to invest myself in it as much as possible. I HATE streaming music shows but my screencaps were a good time xD And then his Japanese solo was an unexpected beauty. The GO to get me to the showcase (successfully) was a lot of fun and a really great experience as well as the showcase itself of course T__T I will follow Taemin’s progress as a soloist as much and as closely as I can TvT

HAD A PROPER COSPLAY PHOTOSHOOT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS anjasjaksjaidj not that I’ve edited the photos yet...but it was so much fun! I’m lacking in posing tho since it’s been so long womp. Still, I loved it and I have more planned this year so I’m excited!!

I watched anime again properly for the first time since moving here. It was really fun, and I hope more series catch my eye! It’s great practice too =w=

I stuck with hiphop class all year. It was really difficult in the beginning because I messed up loads and felt like I was holding everyone back. My confidence went down the drain...but I kept going because I wanted it for too long. And it’s paid off. I’ve been told I’ve improved, I’m having fun with it still, and it put me on stage three times! T___T <3 +I danced with my friend/coworker and my students at our school festival. I woke up early and everything to get to practice a lot haha oTL The determination is proof of my love. I’ve also been learning dances on my own a little recently again too. I really love dancing, I hope I can keep it up after I move.

Last because it is certainly not least....Singapore trip. It was amazing. I’m still so blown away by how much so. It was like being in another world sometimes, I’ve never been anywhere like it. I’ll refrain from writing a love letter to the Marina Bay Sands but omg it was so beautiful, never have I been in such awe over a structure in my life. Truly a masterpiece, and I gorgeous one. One day, I’ll stay there hahaha! Aah it was seriously an amazing trip. Not sure my friends really realize how much better they made it for me too. I never thought that something like going to concerts would give me such solid friends who I can really depend on. It’s truly amazing.

That’s that for highlights. I’m glad I had a good year \o/ Naturally it wasn’t perfect though, it had a lot of rough patches but they were all overcome for the most part and that’s all I can ask of myself.

So goals for this year?

Do a lot better on the N3 exam in July and pass it in December, but STUDY TO PASS IT IN JULY.

make the most out of my new placement. As in, don’t become a total hermit. Please make friends with people nearby, find somewhere to dance, keep studying, make a damn effort.

Take better care of my skin and my health. I started caring for my skin better near the end of 2016 but I need to keep it up.

Keep in touch with my friends. They’re very good at keeping in touch with me and I need to be the first to get in touch with them more often.

Actually start running this year LOL just try it out pretty please @ self

Save money but spend money, you know?

Keep staying conscious of what I’m eating and especially drinking. More water!

Don’t compare myself to others in terms of things I want to be or improve. Not in detrimental ways nor congratulatory ways.

Love and embrace my interests without shame. Be the 100% nerd I was born to be. If my reasons for big things lie in interests that seem shallow, I shouldn’t care, because I know they’re not. That’s what got me to Japan in the first place, after all.

For anyone new, I draw weekly (obviously unofficial) illustrations for each new Critical Role Campaign 3 episode. As both a challenge and treat to myself, I use them to practice making imagined screencaps of the Hells animated. Tentatively working towards learning to make actual concept keyframes.

And for off-weeks I treat them as a free-for-all to whatever CR scene I wanna draw 😆

Bare with me as I figure out the best way to share / organise my ridiculous amounts of art and projects over here, so for now have the art for C3E40 “Compulsions” 💜
