I LOVE THEM SO MUCH THEY LIVE IN MY HEAD RENT FREE

So naki. Hoo boy. He’s got issues. When he was with Jason at Aogiri, he got into a very submissive and self destructive routine. Jason used him to fight, work, and do much more questionable things for him, and as much as it hurt him naki allowed it since he believed that this was a normal and okay relationship and it was normal to suffer and work for anything Jason would give him. Just the tiniest praise would assure him it was worth it

When Jason died he didn’t know what to do, he was his everything, what’s left of him if his Yamori is gone? It destroyed him. His reason for doing anything was dead and he couldn’t even find the motivation to eat or clean himself. He was fresh outta cochlea too, and he was nothing short of pathetic. And also without Jason, there was no one to stop other Aogiri members from picking on him, and it was that that finally drove him away

He ended up going to anteiku. He was told that there’s a place in the 20th ward that helps ghouls and is nice to people, and the prospect of somebody being kind to him was the only hope he had. He shows up filthy, on edge, and looking like he just lost a fight to a parked car, immediately desperate for someone to Make Things Better. As it happened, Shuu was there that day, and was apparently very interested by the absolute clown show of Naki’s stream of impulse decisions in that cafe and pretty much decided to take him home like a dog found in a gutter

Unbeknownst to shuu, dog is a VERY good comparison for naki. He would follow him everywhere, look for anything he could do to please him, even kneel on the ground at his feet when he sits down, completely ignoring that there’s plenty of other chairs. It’s so pathetic it’s adorable. But there’s also problems like his compulsion for chewing on things. Some ghouls grow teeth like crocodiles, constantly producing new ones and forcing old ones out, and he keeps leaving his teeth buried in table legs all around the house

Okay, so, he needs to civilize? tame? Train? His feral bastard. Normally he lets the servants take care of chores, but Naki is terrified of everyone but him and he has to help him himself. He’s the one to bring naki food, convince him to sleep on the bed instead of under it, and give him a bath to get the blood and, let’s be honest, fleas off of him. It’s so much attention and kindness and naki doesn’t know what to do with it. He must be doing something right, and it’s so wonderful he never wants to leave. Shuu is the source of that, shuu feeds him and touches him and talks to him and it’s overwhelming how much he’s given

Naki tries to… repay him. No love comes without a price, and he already has servants, and he wants naki to be clean and healthy, so naturally he must be attracted to him. Naki likes him that way too, so it’s perfect, even if doing this always makes him anxious. He makes the first advance, which shuu reciprocates until Naki is visibly stressed and tense and asks him if he actually wants this. Tsukiyama is able to garner that Naki is doing this in exchange for the kindness, and stops him there, explaining that he likes Naki romantically as well, but that sort of thing shouldn’t be built on a debt. That Naki’s feelings matter to him and he doesn’t need to “earn” attention from him. He melted into this, it’s everything he wanted, he’s found the perfect person and would do anything for this to stay

He still feels the need to impress and repay his boyfriend, but Knowing that shuu doesn’t want anything physical from him (not as an exchange at least) he takes to trying his best to learn the things shuu wants him to, like eating with a fork and using his way too complicated shower and basic literacy. He’s good at the hands on stuff at least, and every time he figures something out he rushes to show his boyfriend

Shuu is ill, he was born ill and will always have it, but he manages. He’s a rich man with access to doctors and treatments after all, but he’s a bit self confident when it comes to accepting them since he hates people seeing him in that state. He tried to keep naki from seeing him like that for as long as possible, but he eventually found his way into his room when he was bedridden to see what was wrong. Much to Tsukiyama’s dismay, his boyfriend didn’t seem to care that he looked so unkempt from being in bed for a week straight, he just asked a lot of questions about why he’s hurting and who he needs to kill for doing this

After a long explanation of no, no one did this, it’s just genetics (and No genetics is not a person,) naki sort of understands. He knows that sometimes Shuu hurts too much to move and needs medicine and rest, and without intending too, has picked up on how to help him. It started with just laying down with him, then bringing him food and water, then actually learning what meds in what quantities to give him when certain symptoms arise. He accidentally became a personal nurse and he can’t even read

Naki is new to the whole romance thing, but does his best with what he knows. Candle lit dinners? He brings shuu a piece of meat from the kitchen and sets a stick on fire in the corner of the room. Rings? He ties a piece of yarn around Shuu’s finger while he’s asleep. Flowers? He leaves fistfuls of random plants on his desk. And shuu? He eats that up. It’s so stupid and so far from the point, but someone who is so detached from traditional romance that they don’t know where to start is working so hard with whatever information he can find to convey that he loves him. They’re both so stupid, but they’re in love

Tokyo Ghoul characters as teachers - part 2/2

1. Kimi Nishino & Nishiki Nishio – Chemistry

They would be awesome teachers and they would have very well-done classes, where they would teach everything in a way to appeal to the students. They’d be calm and patient. Having them both as teachers simultaneously, Kimi would be very warm and friendly and would chat with the students, while Nishiki would be more reserved. The students would love them and ship them badly, and would always think how cute they are in the class. If anyone would have a personal problem, they’d be the ones who would support the students.

2. Arima Kishou – Logic & Mathematics & Literature

He’d be a kind teacher, patient and respected by the students. He’d teach his subject in a way that students understand it, even though math can be very consistent when it comes to information. The students would like him and would view him as a sort of a father figure, a rather depressive one but… When it comes to literature, his class would be fun and he’d get suggestions from students but also suggest them certain books, and they’d talk about what they had read, however the students would start talking with each other about the books, while Arima would watch them and maybe make some comments.

3. Ayato Kirishima – Physical Education

Ayato would try to impose himself and act cool, but teens being teens, things would slip out of his control. He’d try to be the “cool” teacher, but his crush for Hinami would make him blush every time someone says her name. That’s why he’d be the target of pranks, the students making a lot of fun of him, but not maliciously intended. They’d get along quite well, despite Ayato trying sometimes to discipline the kids.

4. Ginshi Shirazu – Philosophy

Shirazu would be a nice teacher, but somewhat impulsive and hurried. He’d be kind with the students and would get along with them very well. He’d teach by having conversations and hearing everyone’s opinions.

5. Hinami Fueguchi – English

Hinami would be great with children, very patient and kind. However, kids being kids, they’d try at first to prank her, but that wouldn’t go that well, so they’d learn pretty soon who they shouldn’t mess with. They’d love her very much, but also fear her. They’d have a close bond, and her class would be very productive, but relaxed and enjoyable.

6. Banjo Kazuichi – Physical Education

He’d be a normal and fun teacher. He’d be naïve and quite stupid, reason why students would pull a lot of pranks on him. Still, all the students love him. He wouldn’t overwork them at all, having a relaxing class.

7. Kaneki Ken – Literature

Kaneki’s class would be that class were no student actually shows up. On the rare occasions when somebody does come, Kaneki would ask there is anyone who wants him to teach something and what the students would want to be taught. If nobody answers, then Kaneki would do nothing and would start talking without anyone actually listening to him.

8. Uta – Art

Uta’s class would be fun, meaning that he’d have a quite personal approach of things, letting students do their own things in their own way until they finish. He’d have a relaxed approach of the class, with usual flits with the boys. He’d bond with the students and they’d have quite a number of experiments, when other teachers would come to pose for portraits like Itori or Nico (who for sure would have the most exquisite positions) or they’d have to deal with the usual straight and emotionless pose of Yomo whom Uta convinced to come. Uta’s class would be a place to find out the gossip in the school, while plotting pranks on other teachers (especially on Yomo), with his help. Sometimes, they’d go and draw in other classrooms so that they could get ‘inspiration’, like when they’d go to the school’s gym to have some action in their drawings, while Uta would probably make sketches of Yomo’s scowls.

9. Naki – Kindergarten

You know, when children at kindergarten cry, their teacher takes care of them. Instead, with Naki, he’d cry quite often, needing the children to console him. He’d get very well along with them and would have a very close friendship relationship with the kids. Also, sometimes he’d bring play mates, such as Hinami or Gagi and Guge, which the children would enjoy very much. Also, his “class” would involve a lot of hugs.

10. Noro – Music

There is no reason for the Music subject we chose, only that is would be absolutely aesthetic. Imagine him without his mask and a piano or a violin or a guitar. Besides, he’d be really good with the students as he is quite kind and caring. Students would come to appreciate instrumental music and some of them would even start learning how to play a certain instrument. Despite his quietness, his class would be very enjoyable.

11. Yomo Renji – Physical Education

Yomo would be the strict teacher who, instead of sports, would teach self-defense. After each of his classes, students’ muscles would ache like hell, and they’d swear to never go to his class again, only to return next week because it is fun to watch Uta always hovering around Yomo, teasing him, while he’d comically keep a straight face all the time and give those monotonous answers. He’d bond with the students in his own antisocial way, even if they wouldn’t really figure that out. And if a sad student sits on the bench one day, Yomo, with the best intentions, would try to talk to him, only to end up sitting awkwardly near the kid, staring intently at him.

12. Yonebayashi Saiko – Cinema Studies

Saiko’s class would never be boring, as students would watch and talk about anime and video games, not learning anything theoretical. Having the same mentality as the kids, Saiko would be the ideal teacher, who’d instantly bond with the students.

13. Tsukiyama Shuu – Home Education / French Literature

This class would be fun. From talking about popular books to all Tsuki’s exclamations and dramatic hand movements. His class would be very eventful and never boring. Students would also receive fashion advice and when having classes with Tsuki that day, there would be a small army of mini Tsukis walking with roses on therir fancy suits and who’d exclaim Fortissimo / Conde / El Dorado etc. all around (and pity for the poor souls that happen to be overheard by Tatara). He’d teach them French well, as the students would listen to him, seeing him as a sort of boss. Overall, the students would get a lot of general knowledge as Tsuki is quite cultured and has a lot of hobbies. Sometimes he’d forget to leave the class and he might be caught mid-(dramatic)sentence by the next teacher. (god forbid that teacher is Tatara)

14. Touka Kirishima – Biology

Touka would not be patient, she’d send the student out of the class quite often, after she moves toward them very scarily. When she’s calm, she’d be an okay teacher, though the class would be rather boring.

15. Koma Eiji – Home Education

Koma would be a good, clam and patient teacher. He’d teach everything students need to know, explaining things clearly and in details, though he would sometimes brag about the Devil Ape he is, and sometimes he’d hold speeches about baking soda (the miracle drug).

16. Juuzou Suzuya – nope

Juuzou wouldn’t be a teacher but he would come to the classes of others and help, and draw giraffes on the whiteboard. He’d bring sweets and the students would love him very much and also they’d joke together and they’d give Juuzou sweets as well. He’d sometimes come along with Shinohara and would always light up the mood of the students.

17. Amon Koutarou – History & Civic Education

He’d be boring af. And more than that, he’d be passionate, no. Obsessed about his subject, and he’d want the student to be just as obsessed about the subject as him. He’d give them a lot of homework, and would give them way too much information for only one class and expect them to know everything by heart.

@mamasaiko is Saiko reincarnated - man that lazy attitude, games and eternal sleepy face, lmao. She is protective of her loved ones too.

@lilacflamesss will be one of Ayato’s closet fan girls, or maybe she will be Ayato himself. I think both are plausible because 1. She lusts over Ayato but tries to hide it by making fun of him, but loves him a lot. 2. She is overprotective of Touka. In the end though when she sees Hinami or Touka or both together, her ovaries explode.😂

@ladywongs will be like Eto, she would go write all of us some god-tier books that we can all indulge on.

Unlike Eto though she has Hinami / Touka’s disposition, doesn’t tolerate shit but very kind and protective of friends.

@madghoulworld is Rize coz she loves reading. She will be a binge feeder though and will feed you until you go on a food coma.

@kingkishou is like Urie because she is very good at art, but also will be like Arima because everyone respects him. It will be a mix of both. It will be fun if an Ui scolds her, hahaha.

@mawjaw is like a badass CCG investigator because she is a forensic analyst, with Kuroneki’s disposition.

@fangirlingforeverz and @tanagers are both the president of Tou-sama fansclub (yep, Far nailed it) that will not tolerate anyone’s bullshit. They will constantly guard and protect her.

@harleyquilt will be another writer who is like Eto, but actually is also like Hirako who always takes care of unruly children

@hamliet is Mucchan but she will adopt all those 100 orphans instead and give them TLC. Hajime will always be running after her.

@midnight-in-town will be Itori, always perceptive and knows a lot of info, but at the same time is always chilling like a villain. @linkspooky will be Roma, always causing trouble when bored.

@coromoor is Haise reincarnated, with all the memes, jokes and sunshine she brings. She will also lust after Touka and will go to :re just to see her. Little did everyone know she is also the founder of the Furby cult with @sianori

@pseudocitrus is like another Eto, who has god-tier writing. But instead of building Aogiri she would build an organization for Shibes with @silverbulletsama.

@kanekikenunot is your resident Tsukiyama who will post Kermits to brighten up your day. She is also overly protective of friends and would be their knight if needed.

@wishes-upon-dreams is like Arata without wanting revenge. Cute and fluffy and loves/worships the Kirishimas with all her heart.

@thiccthighshaise is like sunshine boy Hide, always there to brighten up your smile.

@toukatan is Hori Chie, but instead of hanging out with Tsukiyama she would constantly stalk TG girls with @hinamikasa so they can step on them.

@vixxsin-weeb is Nishiki-sama’s #1 stalker and would lust after his thicc bikaku.

@euterpeus will be reaper's #1 stalker. She will obsessively pine for them bara tiddies and kaneconda. Lmao, Far actually described her the best.

Any Ayahina wedding headcanons?

I was recently talking to @ayahinas about Ayato being bitter about being left out of Touka and Kaneki’s wedding so he locks Kaneki out and Kaneki has to watch the wedding from outside. :D

But anyway, some headcanons:

Ayato’s probably like “huh? why a wedding? it’s a pain” but Hinami just forces him to have a ceremony anyway and he accepts.

Tsukiyama is the wedding planner, of course, like how can he let his daughter’s Hinami’s wedding go wrong? Everything must be perfect.

It takes Touka a long time to process everything because wtf how is that immature little brat of a brother getting married to Hinami out of all people????

Kaneki is in tears because THEY GROW UP SO FAST

Banjou’s like ಠ_ಠ but he’s seen how Ayato is with Hinami so his own personal feelings aside, he wishes them all the best

I bet Miza will be partly celebrating (because come on she ships them, no doubt about it) and partly cursing fate because what the fuck why is Naki so dense to the point that they’re still not married.

I wonder if they do the biting thing because I can’t imagine Ayato being willing to bite her deep enough to the point it scars her shoulder. But I can imagine him relenting after her prodding.

Or maybe they’ll have rings instead, like Arata and Hikari did.

When Hinami appears, she’s so beautiful that Ayato just can’t look at her. And so, what he doesn’t notice is the fact that Hinami can’t look at him either because his ikemen levels probably got amplified by 5000.

They’re up there, blushing, stammering and looking everywhere but each other and this continues for very long. At most, it’s quick glances and immediately turning away sorts of things.

Eventually, they do get used to it and it starts getting hard to look away.

They get married in the Ayahina garden of angst. Or maybe the ceremony happens somewhere close to it and when everyone is celebrating, Ayato quietly pulls Hinami away and drags her to the garden for some alone time.

She asks him why and he says nothing for a long while until he admits to her how the garden seems to be really important to him because it always reminds him of her since it has all those flowers and plants and how, when she was in Cochlea, he’d come here whenever the feeling of missing her gets too overwhelming for him. It felt like she’s back with him again.

He kinda looks a little sad so Hinami starts to get worried. I feel like Ayato will have a lot of insecurities about getting married because it means the start to a new family and clearly, Ayato didn’t have a good experience with his family. But Hinami admits to him that she shares the same worries and that she’s scared of what’s to come as well but she knows things will be okay because they’ll be together and he’s someone she can always trust and count on.

They can hear the music from the wedding so Hinami asks him if he wants to dance. Ayato clearly doesn’t know how to dance and she teaches it to him and asks him to follow her lead. There’s a little stumbling, tripping and stepping on foots but eventually, they get a hang of it (kinda like that Soma scene in Soul Eater except Ayato’s Maka and Hinami’s Soul lmao what). But stuff lightens up between them and finally, some heartfelt laughter.

I imagine the garden to be some kind of greenhouse-like kind of place so maybe the ceilings are transparent and you can look at the sky (or if it’s not, then they stand by a window and look at the sky) and Hinami admits how she’s always watched him when he looks out that the stars because he looks so beautiful when he’s under the moonlight and somehow, it feels so unreal that’s he’s now a definite part of her life and that he’s officially hers. Ayato teases her saying that she’s being cheesy but then he goes on and says that he’s always been hers.

They kinda discuss what’s to come and talk about kids and all that and the topic goes to kid names. Hinami says that if they have a daughter, she’ll want to name her ‘Hikari’ because of how Ayato’s always been some kind of light in her life when she was at her darkest. I kinda not want Hinami to know that it’s the name of Ayato’s mother (and is probably one of the only things he knows about her) and chose it on pure coincidence and Ayato doesn’t tell her anything about it either but instead he agrees to it since he’s mommy’s boy anyway.

They’re about to kiss when Touka walks in like what the fuck are the two of you doing here this is your wedding get your asses back down you can have your alone time all you want later at night

Somewhere out there in a CCG laboratory, Arata cries in his test-tube because his kids are all grown up.

Hi, I thought I’d make a post about my Tokyo Ghoul oc, Katsukira Yuuta, and his dynamics with Tsukiyama Shuu!

100% japanese, 27 years old, born 17th june, full ghoul, ukaku

wavy brown hair (see Harry Styles 2017), dark brown eyes, full lips, earrings (tiny and black/silver, nothing too flashy), 1,90m tall (6’2” i think??)

pretty fit but not over the top, likes football and sometimes roller skating for fun

small heart shaped mole under his right ear, Shuu loves it

bisexual, realized it when he was 18 but has always been pretty chill about it

backstory: relatively normal/happy childhood, his father died when he was 16 because of the CCG, that’s why he accepts to join GOAT so easily

his mom died when he was 22, she was a very positive female figure in his life

got along well with both his parents, especially his mom

momma’s boy

dropped out after 2 years of university to help his mom, studied Biology

likes animals and plants

keeps a “bad boy” appearance to seem tough but he’s just really sweet and has a lot of love to give

likes books, most of them are similar to Shuu’s tastes

fav tv shows: the walking dead, naruto, game of thrones, sailor moon

fav animal is polar bear, fav color is blue

he often wears his dad’s leather jacket

considers his motorcycle as his child and calls her Baby

usually cheerful and flirty, especially with someone he likes

he doesn’t mind studying, as long as it’s not too much

what he feels for Shuu kinda scares him at first bc he has never felt something like this for anyone, but he quickly accepts his feelings and learn to love him, and he promises to himself that he will help him in any way he can bc he loves this boy so much

he just wants shuu to wear glasses and a sweater vest, giving him the professor vibe

doesn’t mind kaneki but he kinda doesn’t like him at the same time for what he did to Shuu

Shuu would be the first one to say i love you! Yuuta has known for a while but didn’t tell him because he didn’t wanna pressure him, but one day Shuu blurts it out and Yuuta pushes him against the walls and repeats “i love you, i love you” between kisses

Shuu manager to get over Kaneki in 2/3 months but he’s still sensitive when he’s around him so Yuuta holds his hand to remino him that he’s there

if they could they’d elope to get married bc Shuu thinks it’s romantic

Kaneki is a little disappointed and he thinks of Shuu as “the one who got away” but he’s happy that Shuu is finally happy

Kaneki is still super important to Shuu and he’s very attached to him, just not romantically anymore

Yuuta feels a little threatened not by the actual Kaneki, but the image of him Shuu has created in his mind, but he gets over that quickly and Shuu has eyes only for Yuuta

Shuu is late for a meeting and when he comes in he looks at Yuuta first and Yuuta knows there’s nothing to be worried about

sometimes Yuuta smokes but he eventually stops for Shuu

Shuu is weak every time Yuuta wakes up with light stubble and begs him not to shave

if Yuuta gets sick he insists that he isn’t and tries to seduce Shuu by seductively rubbing Vaporub on his chest and making noises, and of course Shuu gives in

Mirammo would be crying tears of joy, Hinami is super excited and Nishiki jokingly asks Yuuta if he’s really sure, Yuuta looks at Shuu adoringly and says “yes, 100% sure”

a few days later Kaneki calls Shuu and gives him a handmade black yarn bracelet bc he wants to congratulate Shuu and indirectly tell him that he’s sorry

Shuu thanks him and tells him that he has to move on but Kaneki will still be a huge part of his life and they hug tightly

one day when they’re not together yet Yuuta walks in a room while Shuu is working out and doing the splits and Yuuta has an aneurysm

Yuuta tries to play it cool and starts doing lift but he’s showing off for Shuu and even adds groans that sound like sex noises before taking off his shirt and splashing water all over his chest

Shuu starts salivating and he has to get up to wrap his sweatshirt around his waist bc of a “little” problem

the next workout Shuu wears a pair of booty shorts so tiny they might as well be slips and bends over right in front of Yuuta who combusts

hey’d start a seduction contest, seeing who’ll break first

one time Shuu arrived late for a meeting, there were no seats left and sat down in Yuuta’s lap, who can’t concentrate at all

The Most Damning Problem of √A

So obviously, the manga for Tokyo Ghoul is significantly better than the anime. You can argue over whether or not the anime has any merit, but the manga is almost objectively a more well-done story. Most people would point at the plot differences, the alternative focuses (the anime having a lot of emphasis on insanity and chaos, while the manga focused on tragedy and identity), the bad use of color and overly kinetic animation style of Studio Pierrot (Obviously Studio Pierrot has made great anime, but their style just didn’t really work for Tokyo Ghoul), the censorship, and so on. While all those are good points, I was rewatching the anime and came across a horrible boredom that was most prevelant in √A, and I think it’s ultimately why the anime could never be a palpable substitute for the manga.

The mangaka of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda once explained that he doesn’t have Luffy kill his enemies or anything because what’s more important than the actual fight itself is how two ideologies clash and one comes on top. A reason the Batman vs. Superman fight worked in The Dark Knight Returns and not in Batman v Superman is because Frank Miller gave Batman a clear conflict with Superman and Zack Snyder did not. I think this difference is what Tokyo Ghoul’s anime had with the manga.

I could talk all about the pacing of the fight. In the anime, it’s too fast to tell what’s going on and it’s hard to tell what either of them are thinking. They just punch and attack and eventually one wins. Studio Pierrot also had a terrible way of making a villain seem more threatening. Sachi and Arima are one of the two single most strongest characters in all of the manga, but in the anime they’re just— fast. You never see Sachi break Kaneki’s bones straight out of his arms. You never see him blast Kaneki through a kagune wall— just a concrete wall, which is way weaker. You never see Arima kill someone with a single strike or win with a small quinque. They’re both nothing but really fast.

But ultimately what made the manga have better fights, rather than just better pacing, is better conflict. In the manga I could point to any fight and explain it’s meaning and why it was important.

Kaneki vs. Nishiki — Kaneki didn’t want to give into the idea that he’d eat anybody he’d know, while Nishiki was fighting on the basis that it would be a delight to eat your best friend. While Kaneki wins the fight, he almost gives into Nishiki’s horrific point.

Touka vs. Mado — Mado believes that because Touka is out for revenge, she must be evil. But Touka thinks that because he’s trying to kill an innocent little girl, he is evil.

Any Kaneki vs. Amon fight — Amon is basically the embodiment of what Kaneki would be like if he never became a ghoul. Kaneki needs to show that while

Kaneki and Touka vs. Tsukiyama — Tsukiyama believes that because he’s an excellent fighter and rich that he can eat whomever he wants and have the ultimate human — or half-human — cuisine. Touka wants to prove that she is both stronger than Tsukiyama and doesn’t need to eat specific nontheless. Kaneki wants to not be eaten, which coincidentally also emphasizes to himself that he is a ghoul (if he sees it unnatural for Tsukiyama to eat him, it must mean he’s a ghoul).

Kaneki vs. Yamori — Yamori is the idea of the insanity Kaneki could easily fall into because of how all his original ideals of the world have been broken down. Because of that really long Dream Sequence-epiphany he had though, Kaneki wants to instead find a new identity in life.

Ayato vs. Touka — Ayato did everything he has to be strong enough to protect Touka, and Touka wants him to recognize that he’s doing shithead stuff she never asked for.

Kaneki vs. Ayato — Now that Kaneki wants to be stronger to protect his friends, Ayato is a symbol of how this could go against his wishes and make him hurt those whom he wishes to protect. So he saves Touka by kicking his ass, proving almost immediately that he is still a protector.

Shinohara vs. The Owl — Yoshimura wants to not kill anybody while also helping to save Kaneki. Shinohara wants to kill him because he thinks he’s the same Owl that he failed to protect others from 10 years ago. A simple misunderstanding.

Kaneki vs. Kurona and Nashiro — These twins are like him, proving he’s replaceable and doesn’t even need to be in this hellish world. Kaneki tries to prove that he is stronger than the both of them, proving he is still, as he said before, the only one who can do this [this being knowing the pain of both ghouls and humans and communicating that knowledge].

Tsukiyama vs. Naki — Tsukiyama is educated and Naki is not. Tsukiyama wants to prove he’s superior while Naki wants to prove he is not useless simply because he doesn’t know much.

Kaneki vs. Sachi — Kaneki is the slim boy hero we tend to see these days in anime while Sachi is the embodiment of the masculine anime hero we saw in stuff like Fist of the North Star and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Kaneki wants to prove that you don’t have to be tough to be strong, while Sachi wants to prove his years of physical training are what gives him meaning in life.

Juuzou vs. The Owl [Eto] — Juuzou believes that death is undeniably a part of life and it doesn’t matter. Grieving over something that was inevitable was a waste of time. But once the Owl potentially kills Shinohara, Juuzou is struck with sadness and anger, and directs that anger towards the Owl for breaking his view of the world for possibly the first time in his life.

Kaneki vs. Arima — The most important fight. Kaneki has believed this whole time that he is special enough to make a difference, but Arima’s mere existence is objective evidence that the world is too big and strange to change it. Kaneki loses, proving the story to be a tragedy.

All deep fights that keep you invested and entertained. Now let’s look at the fights in √A, and how they’re not interesting or deep at all.

Tsukiyama, Uta, and Yomo vs. Noro — Wow Noro is strong. Tsukiyama wonders if he’d taste good. Noro walks away and the fighting instantly stops.

Kaneki vs. Ayato — Kaneki walks out of the torture chamber and starts fighting the first thing he sees. That’s Ayato. Wow.

Hoji vs. Tatara — They know each other. Hoji killed two guys Tatara liked. Wow, I didn’t know Tatara liked anybody.

Naki vs. Akira — They both have blonde hair and fight to see who’s prettier. Akira has CRC gas that instantly whithers a kagune, and it’s not harmful to humans, making CCG doves pointless. Why not just gas Tokyo and save the day?

Shinohara vs. Ayato — Shinohara starts winning and Ayato remembers he had a dad and then passes out.

Kaneki vs. Sachi — Kaneki tries to help Sachi but Sachi thinks he’s Rize. What? Is that really enough motivation to fight? Why not just ask Kaneki why he smells like Rize? What?

Kaneki vs. Shinohara — Shinohara thinks Kaneki’s gone crazy and Kaneki agrees. Wow.

Juuzou vs Kurona and Nashiro — Juuzou asks them why they became ghouls and they said “we don’t want to spoil the manga” frustrated, Juuzou stabs them and they run off to see Dr. Kano— I mean into the darkness. Remember, Dr. Kanou is a plotline from the manga and we can’t have that in a manga adaptation.

Kaneki vs. Amon — Kaneki says “may I pass” and Amon says “no” and they switch places and they die, except Kaneki.

Hide vs. ??? — Hide fights ??? and loses. Instead of seeking medical attention, he talks to Kaneki about stuff for 5 hours and then dies. So sad.

With clashes like these, it’s impossible to be interested in the fights going on, and that’s on top of the fact that you can’t tell what either fighter is thinking or how they’re struggling. When all the fights are that boring, it doesn’t matter how well-animated the fight is. And ultimately this is what made people lose interest in the Tokyo Ghoul anime after the second season,

(Note: there was originally like eight more cynical lines about how birthdays mean you’re that much closer to the end, but I scrapped it because when I try to use dark humor it usually just ends up kinda gruesome.

There’s probably something wrong with me and someday we’ll find out what that is, but today is not that day)

Congratulations! @(^-^)@ You were only sixteen but your mind was older- now you’re seventeen, but I’m sure the latter part of that quote still applies and the blog will blow us all away even more than before! Hope you have a wonderful, satisfying birthday despite how non-stop you are (don’t forget to take a break when you can) and one last time, congratulations!

(also depending on how the timezone difference between Croatia and Korea works, we’re only a day or two apart- my birthday is March 30th, which is tomorrow over here! :D so cool)

I know, I still like the idea of trans Mutsuki better but other than any hints dropped in canon, I just think it’s very unlikely that TG as a Japanese manga will add a 100%, conmpletely confirmed LGBTQ character. I believe Ishida himself is pretty open towards the LGBTQ community (Nico’s portrayal is a bit questionable but in an omake Yomo is shown thinking that anyone he dates could become Touka’s aunt OR uncle (though of course that could be a translation error), Shuu is a subversion of manga stereotypes regarding gay men and TG in general has a lot of interesting themes regarding sexuality and gender), but idk, the idea of a mainstream seinen manga like TG adding LGBTQ themes that go beyond heavy implication seems unlikely (though who knows, it could happen).

Mutsuki just makes me bitter. FIrst all the arguments about their gender and now I don’t even like them anymore (they used to be an adorable cinnamon roll but after recent chapters, while I still feel for them they’ve become a lot less sympathetic).

(Also this just makes me sound salty but I recently came across a very aggressive blog dedicated to reminding everybody that MUTSKI IS MALE AND YOU ARE ALL WRONG and reading through it just made me kinda mad and irritated all at once. Once a trans person made a post saying that despite being trans themself they didn’t think Mutsuki was, offering several manga moments as decent evidence and being quite polite, and the mod of this blog answered them with what basically boils down to 'lol no it’s possible to be transphobic even if you’re part of the LGBTQ community and you are clearly one of these people’.)

Don’t worry, cinnamon roll Hinami isn’t being forgotten! :) I’m really looking forward to her meeting Akira. I’ve always liked Hina but these recent chapters pushed her up on my ‘favorite characters’ list- she’s just way too sweet.

Reading the manga: wth Ishida you are officially my least favorite person like even Isayama is better than you

Reading Ishida’s translated tweets/the comments he makes in TG extras: why are you so nice

Yeah, I kinda hated Urie at first (I understood his goals and motivations but did he really have to be such a jerk? I honestly thought he was going to get somebody killed in the auction arc) but after the auction arc I started to like him better (I think the official moment I decided ‘I like Urie Kuki as a character’ was when Shirazu died) and I kinda freaked out when I realized what happened to him…

He would make a great Burr though. I think he’s way more willing to act than Burr and is not a ‘talk less, smile more’ kind of person (more like a ‘talk less and don’t smile at all’ type) but they’re still really similar. I could also see Urie singing Wait for It…with Kaneki as Hamilton. Not because Kaneki particularly fits Hamilton but because of how Burr is clearly somewhat jealous about Hamilton’s progress despite not approving of his methods in Wait For It (in an interview about the song I think LMM said something about it describing the feeling of watching your friends and acquaintances getting so far ahead in life and thinking 'Wait for it; someday I’ll get there too’).

Am I the only one who headcanons that despite acting super classy and not knowing much about rap/hip-hop before someone (maybe Hori?) gets him to listen to it, Tsukiyama actually turns out to be a really good rapper?

Speaking of Tsukiyama though, I want to see more of his interactions with Naki

Hmm, since Mado died after he was already an adult couldn’t Akira technically count? We know from omakes that Mado was a doting father and made her childhood as happy as possible, so while her life might not have been 100% perfect it was still really good in TG terms. Takizawa before he entered the academy also counts.

but even those two had so much tragedy happen to them as adults…

And genre doesn’t matter- though I usually prefer dark, psychological stories I’m willing to make exceptions when the series in question is really good (that’s what I did with YoI after all :) the only genres I’m really reluctant to read are horror and high school romances).

Gaah, it’s people like that that make dislike the lgbts... The dynamics between Kaneki and Urie don’t make a good Ham-Burr, but their positions in their job, so I guess they really are the best pair for Hamilton. Why did Ham have to die ;-; That makes casting so much harder for me.

Oh yeah, Tsukiyama would be an amazing rappers, I don’t doubt it at all. In fact, I’m sure that he’d be able to do Guns and Ships perfectly.

Fun fact: You made a typo saying ‘Mado died after SHE became an adult’ (I changed it) and you gave me the biggest heart attack. Pls, my phone wasn’t used to the speed with which I typed ‘TOKYO GHOUL WIKI AKIRA MADO’ to check if what you said is true. Yeah, Akira could count, I guess. That makes a total of ONE character... Not much, eh?

I don’t know if I count Takizawa... I think that the way his life is now, it very much makes up the lack of angst in his childhood.

ABSOLUTELY ! Okay I have way more of these than I thought I just love these stupid dudes and their stupid kids

After those two extremely weird dudes got married, had a long honeymoon, and settled for awhile, they’d look into getting kids. Both never had any doubts that they wanted them, Naki likes kids and totally lit up when he realized he could have his own, and Shuu had always wanted to start a family since he was 9.

Their original plan was to get a surrogate. They’ve got the money and Shuu had assumed he’d have bio kids, but when Mirumo heard from Kanae that his son was planning on giving him grandchildren, he asked him to come in and talk to him alone. Shuu went in, excited to plan for having kids, and his dad immediately grabbed him by the shoulders and said something along the line of “I’m so proud of you for starting your journey as a father but I am literally begging you not to have bio kids. You’re the first gay in the family you have the option to adopt or use your husband as a donor and should.” Obviously Shuu is confused, he thought his father would want a grandson that had their blood, but was convinced by “you know how you’re a hemophiliac? Garbage genes. Rc absorption problems? Garbage genes. DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR BACK BRACE? DO YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO HAVE THE BACK BRACE? IT WILL!” Shuu is many things, but he is not a man who would subject another person to his bullshit Alabama genes if it means they’ll have to suffer through going to middle school in a back brace like he did. He was nervous to tell Naki about the change in plans after they’d already made them, but he was totally indifferent. Okay we doing store bought instead of homemade? Cool let’s get a blond one! Doesn’t care at all he just wants child

They send Kanae out to find some ghoul kids. It used to be easy, ghoul children used to be orphaned all the time, but since decriminalization they’ve all been cared for. Kanae tells them that they can literally just go to an adoption agency and ask for ghoul kids.

Obviously this gay couple made up of a flamboyant rich twink and an illiterate bastard who ate something out of the trash but had perfect eyeliner, both of whom ate people, were ushered immediately away from the human kids. Luckily they’re rich enough to not get dropped from the adopter list so, as rude as biased foster parents are, they still get to meet with the ghoul kids. While Shuu is looking around, realizing that he has no idea how to choose a child to be his own, Naki had already clicked with one. There’s a mute kid with two siblings who’s been there awhile, and Naki so happens to have two best friends who taught him some simple sign. After watching his husband chatting with this kid who looks tentatively hopeful about having someone who can communicate well with him, he knows it’s not even a question

They adopt the three kids. Satoshi, the mute boy, is the oldest at 9. Fudo, the middle boy, is 6. Hoshi, the only girl, is 3. They lost their parents shortly after the youngest was born and had been bounced around foster homes ill equipped for ghouls for awhile, so suddenly having two loving parents, a team of servants ready to help them, and a massive estate, is more than any of them expected

Satoshi immediately latched onto Shuu. The kid loves art and music and his flamboyant ass father couldn’t be more excited to take him to museums and concerts. Now all the upscale events he goes to he takes Satoshi, and it’s common gossip that Tsukiyama has a tiny, silent, blond clone of himself with him at all times. Seriously that kid took right to being a noble’s son, he’s got a tiny suit and everything

Naki has a talent for getting along with kids, he’s always been protective of kids and now that he has his own he’s never away from them. He’s never let Fudo out of his sight for long and barely puts Hoshi down. A lot of the time he’s got all three kids climbing on him and he’s never been happier

Since the Lets Not Eat People vaccine, ghouls have had trouble getting used to human food, especially kids who are picky enough on their own. Shuu always had the most gourmet dishes because he only allows the best for his kids, but they didn’t really like any of it. Shuu was ranting to Chie about how he’s worried about his children not eating, and she suggested that kids don’t want gourmet shit, they just was Dino nuggets or something. He refuses to believe her, but one day she shows up with some microwaved chicken fingers and the kids DEMOLISH it. Shuu finally relents and feeds his kids “middle class garbage” as he puts it. At least Satoshi likes lobster, the only loyal bastard in this house.

Speaking of Chie, she and Kanae make an amazing aunt and uncle. While Kanae is more of a Child Wrangler, Chie is a Child Enabler who gives them candy and firecrackers to scare the shit out of Shuu. They look forward to her visits every time

Fudo is hyperactive, even for a ghoul kid. They give him coffee, which for ghouls helps calm them since it’s how most of them deal with their own hyperactivity, but it doesn’t do much. This kid just needs to move and luckily he’s on an estate where he can do that. He and Naki go sprinting and chasing through the gardens, often with Hoshi or Satoshi on his shoulders, and zoom until he’s exhausted

Having dealt with ghoul persecution, parental death, and being a mute kid in ill equipped foster care, Satoshi understandably has some issues. He hides food in his room and tries to take care of illnesses or messes himself since he’s not used to having guardians quick to help him. Luckily his dads step right in to help him, they’ve gotten him (and his brother for good measure) a therapist and do whatever they can to help him feel at home. He hides food in his room? Okay let’s get a mini fridge so ants don’t get to it. Afraid they’ll be mad when he gets sick or makes a mess? That’s okay they’ll ask him all the time how he’s feeling and if there’s anything they can help him with. The kid’s been doing way better since getting there

Naki is always dragging everyone into family cuddles. He never got physical affection as a kid and is making Damn sure his kids do

Getting them to school was a priority. By the time they adopted ghouls have been decriminalized for a few years and schools are open to them, so they don’t have to go through the same thing Mirumo did for Shuu of setting up a network of ghoul teachers to protect him. They send them to the best elementary school they could find with ironclad IEPs and the only hard part was getting Naki to stop staking out the school. The kids are fine, go home

Mirumo is an awesome grandpa, he’s always visiting the kids. He’s also a very weird man and always telling wild stories

The white suits join in on taking care of these kids, if they’re Boss Naki’s children that means they’re all uncles now

Both Shuu and Naki freaked out when Satoshi started forming his first kagune. Shuu still shudders at the memory of the terrifying and painful ordeal of his and Naki’s wasn’t much better. They assume his will be just as difficult and scary, but it only takes a minute for him to form his, a lovely rose colored ukaku. Turns out the dads just had particularly bad experiences and their kid is fine, but was still immediately rushed into celebratory cuddles

The older these kids get, the more they understand how weird their family is but don’t dislike any of it. Sure Dad can’t read, sure Papa is embarrassingly dramatic in front of their friends, but they couldn’t ask for a better family
