I want to share smth, but please be gentle - this thing has an enormous sentimental value to me^^'

when I was at high school in the late 90's-2000's it was Very Important what kind of music you were listening to, it could make you a god or a social pariah; I vaguely remember there were even fights between rappers(?) and metalheads(?)

I was freshly out of a terrible bullying situation at my former school so it was also Very Important to me personally How Not To Become a Social Pariah Again)))))

But I couldn't make heads or tails of what was generally acceptable, so to repeal all possible accusations, I was saying to my classmates that I like Classical Music (I didn't), was greedily and secretly watching Rammstein clips on MTV and listening to a meagre collection of pop music on cassettes that was available at my town's shops)))

I've recently rediscovered one of my favourites from that time - it's objectively a terrible unlistenable pop from 2000's (probably? I cannot tell - I listen to it with great fondness and lots and lots of other emotions ❤️)

My point is - it's so hard not to fall for the concept of guilty pleasures and just fucking enjoy things that you like, so there!.

song miyeon is many things but a liar is not one of them.

‘i just want to earn a living doing something i like’ is probably not the most diplomatic response, yet it’s the only thing that comes to her mind. with the interviewer tilting the microphone to her expectantly and the cameras suddenly focusing on her, she realizes that there is no time to sugarcoat it.

“i don’t want to be an idol at all.”

from the corner of her eye, she can see that the crew is completely unaffected by her answer. she would be too, were she in their place, talking to naïve, doe-eyed kids all day. right before her, someone said they were here to achieve world peace; what such a thing has to do with being an idol miyeon does not know and at this point, she is too tired to ask.

“not in the conventional sense, anyway. i think it’s time we change the idol industry. i want to make meaningful music that goes beyond surface level love songs,” she explains. “i also want to have more autonomy, both as an artist and as a person. do what i want, date who i want… it’s not fair that we hold idols up to these impossible standards, you know?”

the interviewer nods and mutters a quiet uh-huh under his breath, though his eyes seem just as empty as they did when he asked his question. miyeon wonders if he even listened to what she said or if he’s backchanneling out of habit. 

another possibility is that they are simply not taking her seriously. she’s, what? the thirty-seventh wannabe today who thinks they have revolutionary ideas that will shake the entire entertainment industry to its core? and out of those thirty-seven, how many of them will even get close to debuting?

their skepticism and disinterest is somewhat valid, however much she hates to admit it.

she sighs and turns to one of the cameras, giving it a thumbs up. “thanks for your time.”
