what's your process for coloring like? the look of that elendira is so textured and interesting, i can't figure out how you do it
AA THANK YOUU ^__^ !! textures & brushwork are my favorite things abt my art, so im happy you find it interesting hehe . its SOO cool to look at & so much fun to draw imo
i prefer to color by building in layers , if that makes sense 🤔!! hundreds of them !! such that i'm always drawing on Top of previous layers, working from big & messy blocks of color to, eventually, small and refined blocks of color until it feels processed enough. as a result, i rarely ever erase (!!) and i rarely ever draw lineart aside from the initial sketch
a rough, patchy textured brush is key here, as it'll give you dimension and variability w/ your colors. i recommend "Brush and various sets of fountain pen style (万年筆風ブラシと色々セット)" on Clip Studio (ID: 1679706) !! :3
Tumblr media
im terrible with explanations though, so i'm going to show a step by step of that elendira drawing if you dont mind :3
Tumblr media
sketch layer !! because i mostly render through color alone, i try to make this as close to the finished thing as possible . ^__^ i hateee drawing the same thing over and over and like the expressivity and movement of my sketches anyways , so the more i can preserve at this step, the better. if u were to look at a side by side of my sketches and finished pieces, youd notice a lot of those og lines are present in the final drawing :3
Tumblr media
2. flats !! pretty self explanatory, but the solid background gives me an idea of where the figure begins & ends while the colors themselves help distinguish whats what . i stick to ambient lighting @ this point because im usually not sure what i want to do with the overall palette or lighting yet . having two tones (ex, dark and light in her hair or dark and light on her skin) can also help in identifying key features early on that u wanna preserve. as you build layer by layer, sometimes these areas will remain untouched and i think it makes for a rly lovely feel at the end
Tumblr media
3. start blocking !!! to be totally honest with you, i dont really know what i do here HAHAHA. like i just scribble the shit out of it, usually focusing on what i might want to do with lighting (ex: grey areas to accentuate folds in her costume). i think i like to start "erasing" the sketch where possible by coloring on top of it .. like if you look at her hat or her arm , you can tell i'm starting to get a sense of the shapes i like vs the ones i dont. it's at this point that the final image starts to emerge in my mind , like im gradually pulling her from a tarpit of scribbles until shes recognizable lol. chipping away at the marble until i can free her. tbh.
Tumblr media
4. keep blockingg...when u think u are done , block some more . as you can probably see, the brushwork becomes more intentional as i add more shape, with specific focus on line weight. this is also where the patchiness of that textured brush comes in - notice how none of the colors seem totally uniform (ex: the red cross or the original sketchlines for her waist). you can see bits and pieces of the layers underneath pushing through and i really like that !! ^__^ its very fun and sketchy to me, so i try to keep them around. those areas are also great to colorpick from, because it'll give you "new" colors to work w/ that are already part of your palette.
Tumblr media
5. GRADIENTS & GRADIENT MAPS !! TONE CURVE !! COLOR PICKER !! this is the best stage tbh. flatten your image so its all on one layer and just go crazy with all the color settings in ur program. add gradient layers and set them to darken, or overlay, or subtract, orrr. lighten or dodge glow or divide or soft/hard light.! OR!! edit the hue, saturation, luminosity and contrast.and then color pick from these edits, block even more on top of ur image, flatten, color edit again, etc. etc. until u feel satisfied.
ANYWAYSS . i hope that makes sense @__@ sry i wrote this out and deleted it like 23 times trying to make it make More sense but thats what ive got HAHA i hope its useful though :3 !

Hey Weeping, I just wanna say that I really love your art. Every time I see it on home page it makes my day a bit better. If your ever feeling down or sad just remember all of us are always here for you!
Some things I love about your art:
Your artstyle! It's so stylized and cool. The lineart you do is incredibly detailed and beautiful.
The colors <3 You choose color combos in such a way that it always simply captivates me. One of my favorite things abt your art.
The effort! The amount of effort you put into each piece is truly wonderful. I appreciate the work done to go and create such spectacular masterpieces and I'm sure so many people do too.
I can list about a million different things, but I don't think that'd all fit in here! And I don't wanna clog up your asks.
Regardless, keep being you, do the things you like, and no matter what happens- keep going!
Happy new years ^^

IRIN4UDURNDJJDIRMFIHFJDND!!!!!
This means so much to me you don’t understand! The fact you could put my art into lil sections of what you like about it is… so surprising to me and it really is, like I read this so many times!
No matter how many times people say they are inspired by me it’s so hard to believe. Like, “who? Me?? Nah!! It can’t be!” It’s like I look at my own shit and see nothing special but others see it and say such loving things and I’m here just… in tears XD
Ur killing me with kindness WAAAA!!! But in all real words I’m so glad you like what I do! I appreciate it so much!
Happy New Year❤︎︎

Is there any particular artist, show, game, or movie that inspired ur art style? It’s so pretty ^^
I have so many!!! I definitely can't name every single one but heres a few that have been extremely influential to me!! This took me 2 hours to write i am SO sorry lmao

Puyo Puyo (Specifially Fever, Quest, and Tetris)
CUTESY BRIGHT BRIGHT COLORS!!!!!! Thats everything I love!!!!!! I'm pretty sure I talked about this when I first got into puyo puyo but I for SURE instantly decided that yep Im steering my style in this direction sorryyyyyy!!! I just think its so fun and silly and cute and rahhh it makes me so happy.
Especially for the work I do most often, which is character portraits without backgrounds, I will often look at puyo puyo posing just to get ideas!! (I've drawn Arle's dumbfounded pose 100000000 times becus I love it so much). The puyo puyo anatomy has very noodly arms and legs but with big ass shoes and accessories which is probably my favorite design thing in the world....
I seriously recommend just looking through the Puyo Puyo Nexus wiki for pose ideas (if you want something cute/silly of course) because every single one is just perfect. I am trying to get out of some dumb art habits of my own right now, but hopefully in the future you'll be able to see more goofy poses with sillier effects :3

Muse Dash Again I want you to look at the COLORS. Its so bright and this time you can really tell where I took my shading style from. I dont want my shadows to be dark I want them to be PINK or PURPLE. thank you. For my own art, I really try to make it so the darkest "black" is actually a deep purple or blue, and as I keep making art that dark color keeps getting just a bit lighter haha...
This is also the reason I color my lineart the way I do. I just really want to add as many colors as possible into the image. And if the image looks a bit more pink after that then thats just an extra perk!!
I also need to bring up the animation because they're just so bouncy and alive!!! This is like an instant stunlock for me, I have to look at them, theyre so BOUNCYYY!!!!!! I don't do much animation but every other week I get the sudden urge to try tweening again just to eventually get to the point I can make something similar to these for my own ocs lol

Great Pretender This show has some of the most gorgeous art ive ever seen. All the backgrounds are so bright and colorful. I dont usually draw art with backgrounds anymore sadly, but when I used to I really tried to study these for them. And I hope in the future I can make more art and show how far I've come.
Though I;ve changed to a more chibi style in recent times (thanks puyo puyo), this was still one of the first times I had ever watched a show and said "Oh my god I love this artstyle I need to get better at art" and Its always in my mind for that reason.
Ive definitely stolen lots of elements from the style. Though they've gotten more subtle over the years. I dont really know how to describe it any further but I hope you understand what I mean by looking at these screenshots,,,

Hello I am very obsessed with your art the crisp lines and your colours are everything to me shaking in my boots !!/pos
Do you think you'll ever post a tutorial/speedpaint ? Showing maybe how you choose colours or how you shade, things like that (mb if you already posted one and it flew past my radar)
Have a nice day !
THANK U so much!!!!! to be honest my process is super hectic and messy, and i never really have a clear goal in mind other than the main focus of a piece (im really bad at visualizing things <\3) also i use procreate, so the speedpaint videos don't show my process of color picking and layer editing
buuuut if ur still curious heres my vid for my Ace piece, sense u didnt clarify (i used my sabo piece as reference for proportion and cohesiveness) content warning for flashing screen / lights
as you can see, i mess around a lot with my shadows and tones, and never stick to a certain color. Art is about experimenting around after all :) but to a little more in depth for my process, im a MAJOR warm tones user, and use softer colors for flats, while i usually pick cool tones such as green and purple (and blues, in this case) for shadows. Also i never really use actual pure white, always opting for light yellows or green/blues. It just makes it pop a little more imo for lineart, sometimes i stick with black, but other times i will go for a deep blue hue, if i feel like it brings out the flat colors more. Another big thing is i LOVE messing with layer modes, which alter my colors a lot. Some of my biggest uses being luminosity, color burn, and any light modes
Anyways im not an expert artists or anything and im still learning and experimenting as much as the next person, so im not all that organized and clear with my process so i apologize, but if ur still interested i could try making a clearer process tut in the future !

What art program/brushes do u use? tips on coloring and line-art 🥺 ur art is very cute and soft like a plushie i want to hug ur artworks 💝 they’re so comforting 🌻🧸
Awww 😭 This makes me so so happy to know!! I’m really glad my art gives these feelings to someone 💙
I use IbisPaintX ! And some kind of brush I picked off Pinterest years ago 🥲 For sketches I use pencil mod #2 ( it’s in the app, a lovely brush<3 )
With tips, I don’t really have much to say about lineart 🧐 It takes time for your hand to comprehend the ability to makes smooth lines 🫠 Just keep up the practise and you’ll be alright ;)
For the colouring tho, I just slap colours that match together the best all the time :’) But, I do recommend watching some colour theory videos on YouTube. They did help me a bit with understanding some stuff! Still on the track of processing them tho 😩 And, look for inspirations/set a goal. I myself always wanted to match the earth colour vibe because the art with that accent was just so beautiful to me. With that I knew what kind of colours I want to use in my art and started to play with the colour wheel. Don’t be afraid to experiment:)
So yeah, I hope this helps! Don’t give up💪

hi i love love ur designs ive been following u for probably years now n theyre so good i can and do stare at them for minutes. i picked up drawing early last year n rly enjoy designing characters n i was just wondering if there was anything u did to improve at picking color palettes or if it just naturally happened from designing so many characters. also where do u find inspiration for the outfits ur art is so cool<3
Thank you very much i'm always flattered when people enjoy my designs. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt, ive never been trained formally in designing characters or anything like that and i'm a fully self taught artist for digital art.
I would have to say, a good key part of designs is not JUST in color palettes but in contrast and hue values [darks and lights]
i would suggest you can work on contrast and your values, by working with monochrome palettes of any color of your choosing- working from light and dark from there Also a lot of color palettes, ill be honest its kind of a hack, its like, complementary/contrasting colors often together either be it in equal terms or using one main color and then using its complementary color for 'accents'. Smaller details to pop. I like to make sure accent colors have more than just one tie into the design so it feels like it fits into the design. Like imagine a wholly green outfit in different shades of green with ONLY a bold red lip. that looks tacky, it would need more accents of red to tie in to balance the design
or analogous color schemes like Pink and Yellow with some orange, or my favorite is "Peacock" Green, Blue and Purple i love those colors together so much and im sure many notice it with the frequency i like to utilize those colors
While working with colors i like to hide my lineart layer to check and see if colors are distinct and readable without just the lineart as well
A lot in designing also has to do with your own style, ive grown and adapted a more simple style and so my clothes are typically more on the simple style but i try to make a good silhoutte shape with them, silhoutte is a great part of character design too but when youre just starting out I don't think it's that highly important.
Of course, references. I enjoy looking through a lot of fashion of many different time periods, i love hanboks, i love hanfus, i love medieval headpieces, i love punk and the best part is you can just make a combination of multiple different facets of a piece and stitch them together to work out .

1, 2, 6, 8, 12, and 22!
im doing urs first. just for fun
my god holy moly this got so long readmore time
1. Show your most recent wip
Tumblr media
pspspspps [waves the prospect of ship art in front of you] if you do artfight i'll draw concordia ex machina next
2. 5 favourites of your own work?
FIVE? i don't draw that much!!! hold on i'll go browse
Tumblr media
In no particular order! Veylin's bust painting is my fav ive done of any of those, i'm still rlly proud of nohope and planhz's sprites, i reaaaaaally love how i did the color and overlays on that abby headshot, and the dogy is an artfight attack from last year that is everything i love about my older lineless art style!!!
6. Which artists inspire you right now?
Alright buckle up folks this is a longer one
So I'm gonna answer this in two parts basically. The first part is artists that inspired me to start drawing what I like, especially fantrolls-- so a lot of my friends really!! Wanting to be in this community is what made me start actually doing art as something I was passionate about!!!!! The second part is actually twitter artists that inspired me to actually renovate my art style, try new things, and actually grow as an artist in ways that I really just never did here before.
I know I'm gonna forget a lot of people but the ones that come to mind right away for people who had an Impact on me back in the day are !!U!! gabriel 8bit-mau5, newt indig0trolls, my friend max who's no longer in the community, my friend lumiet who doesn't even do fantrolls but is really cool, and god a lot of old blogs whos muns are just gone now..................... wistful sigh :(
BUUUUUT as for artists who made me want to actually grow again in my. Wait hold on
[sets out a sign that says CRINGE WARNING -- I LIKED DSMP IN LATE 2020-EARLY TO MID 2021]
Okay now that that's out of the way! Some of the artists who made me actually want to learn and change and GROW again are giraffeleggos, mielzy_png, and WolfyTheWitch on twt :3 Mielzy especially is an art streamer who has a huge focus on being introspective and taking criticism and wanting to grow and always be improving in a direction they want. Hella cool to see someone be like, never satisfied in a "i love art and drawing so i want to grow and do it as well as i can as a respect for the craft" type of way. I don't think any of these guys except for Wolfy are actually into dsmp anymore but when I got into their content they were all dsmp fanartists so.
Okay this is really long actually so I'll quit there. Wait no actually here's a list of a handful of folks whose art inspires me to keep learning nowadays (also mostly all my friends)-- nero ramgodd, roe roetrolls, dami ask-the-troll-boys, greg lordtonic, and an extra special shoutout to chase sasster for making me want to write again. I just wanna do the cool art stuff like my really awesome friends so bad yall
8. What do you like most about your own work?
Hrmmmmmmmmmmm okay this one is tough bc both I wanna say "nothing bc I have a lot of strengths" and "nothing bc there's always room for me to grow and improve so even my best strengths aren't as good as they could and will eventually be"
But like. I really like how I paint actually
12. Show your favourite drawing from this year
FROM THIS YEAR.... ok let's comb thru my art tag
Oh wait easy simple. The whole fuckin aliquid ex nihilo comic. That took me so goddamn long but it was a labor of love and I desperately want to do more 1-page song comics like that but unfortunately they take me like 2 weeks if I do full lineart and that shit sucks
Tumblr media
There are a lot of things I want to redo on it that are also things I redid in the process of making this comic but as is the nature of being so used to drawing sprites I forget how to draw people in actual poses and also interacting with things. I still think overall just because also of how funky I got with the coloring, framing, the fact that this is the first comic ive ever planned and fully completed ever, etc. that this one's my fav thing I've drawn in 2022 thus far
22. When is your prime time to work on your art?
Nighttime and also whenever I'm medicated LMAO I can NEVER focus on drawing if I'm off my meds idk how I did it before

u have a very distinctive way of doing lineart and drawing faces and even the way u color… i can’t rly word what i mean well but like it’s so identifiable as u. even just one of those things isolated i can very much tell was done by u and idk it’s very pretty to look at!! ur art is very shaped and i love the inked lines and i want to bite it all i know it’d be solid between my teeth
augha ty hearing my art is shaped is flattering and you guys make my head big /w\.. i always try to do different brushes but i always drift back to inked lines since they just feel good to use. and the faces! im always worried they dont really stand out so its definitely reassuring ty mwah <3

U have an eye for such unique color palettes that I am trying so hard to absorb because it is just always a treat to look at big time….. I eat ur art with kitchen utensils <3
YAYYYY I LOVE THIS lineart has always been my fav and i take so much pride in my detail orientation heheehe ^___^ READS THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN….

hello!! i saw ur tags on ur last art post and im sorry u arent feeling great about your creative work lately :( but i just want to tell u that i think your art is SO GOOD, like you are genuinely Art Goals for me and your art always makes me smile so much!! i adore how soft it is and how that comes through in every aspect of the art. your lineart feels light and clean while also maintaining a bit of a sketchy quality which i love! your pastel-y color palettes feel so gentle and also, like, smart? Like the colors work so well together and mesh in a really pleasing way. And the way you draw hair!! And faces!!!! SO SOFT! The expressions feel so genuine aaaaaa. im totally overusing the word “soft” lol but for real that’s the best way I can think to describe the overall vibe of your art. And it makes sense because you seem like such a kind and gentle and caring person so of course your art would be the softest thing ever. it feels like a warm hug or a cool breeze or a blanket fresh from the dryer. I love it sm. The clothing choices and posing and literally just EVERYTHING about your art is so good. im a less familiar with your writing but I have read a few of your fics and they were really cute! I totally get not feeling confident in what you make and going through creative rough patches but I hope you can believe me when I say that you are a genuinely WONDERFUL creator that a lot of people admire. Your work makes people feel things and it’s so special. Thanks for sharing your stuff even when you’re not feeling confident because it’s always a treat to me to see your posts <3
I hope you don't mind that I took a while to answer this 🥺 but I kept it in my inbox to come back and read every once in a while and honestly I can't tell you how much it meant to have such a lovely thoughtful comment to come back to. Thank you so so so much mar, you always leave the sweetest tags, and your enthusiasm and attention to detail is so appreciated- I almost cried reading this. I'll always come back to read your message whenever I need it. I hope you don't mind the sketchy quality of this, but I drew this for you as a small thank you 🍓💕✨

hI!! i love your art and was wondering if you could make a tutorial showing how you paint stuff? only if you can! it's just really pretty !!
hi nonnie! thats very flattering !! i’m sorry i dont think i’ll be very helpful bc i’m a mega noob as well :D but i’ll try my very best <3
my process is very tailored for speed instead of quality (oops soz LOL) so i do suggest this for if u have short doodle breaks ⬇️⬇️⬇️
thumbnailing (for comics) -> lines (sketch who?) -> bucket tool/color drop in the base color -> color in the lines -> one multiply layer for a “base” shadow (in the vid below its purple!) -> one (1) render/paint layer a.k.a lawless no man’s land
full rendering process & more general painting tips below the cut‼️
NOTE: i’ll be focusing more on traditional/fundamental tips for stylized art because i’m sure there’s a much more effective way in digital. I truly do only use one normal layer for render... i think this is bc before i made this blog, my only prior experience in drawing is middle school art class, so all i know is traditional painting on one layer.... pray i can answer this again in the future with something smarter lmao
🌺 MY PAINT PROCESS
1. Choose a color scheme!
It doesn’t have to be set in stone like below, but i at least keep in mind the color range i’d like to use depending on what i want to convey (ex. soft pastels for soft fluff, or warm colors for happy vibes). I try to be as limited as possible for base colors because I tend to go ham when painting, you’ll see later AHAHA
2. Base coloring + Base shadow
Base -> bucket tool in the color scheme (I know other artists are against this but when i discovered the bucket tool in digital art I immediately divorced manual coloring i’m sorry i loved you tho bae) (this is why my style and lines are simplistic as they are, so the color drop works!)
Base shadow -> in theory, warm-colored light creates cool-colored shadows and vice versa. because i’m a fluff addict i mainly use warmer light, so i like using blue/purple as the shadow. generally u can’t go wrong with complementary colors!! (yellow light & purple shadows / orange light & blue shadows).
I make a new multiply layer (decreased opacity just bc i like things soft okay) and clip it on the base layer, then block in the areas i think would get blocked from the light.
Tumblr media
3. Color in the lines!
for simplistic styles i swear this works wonders. i just clip a layer to the lineart and manually color the lines with a darker but more saturated version of the base color. it just tends to look more dead i guess with low saturation lol (ex. u can see above i use both peach and red or pink for lines of skin, i guess it implies the blood under the skin too. or something :D)
4. RENDERRRR
when i’m not in a rush i just paint things completely (and mindlessly), but here are the things i almost always do:
line the shadows with a saturated color! i’m not sure this is common but i love it lol, in almost all my doodles just check the shadows—on the edges, there’s bound to be a wild color :D (usually its the light color, shadow color or a color scheme color but sometimes i’m just like boY do i loVe piNk)
my art major friend told me about saturated colors on desaturated bases and my life was changed forever lol. u can see below even when my base is very grayyy, my rendering is very gay :D ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
make the shadows darker where i think they should be darker. usually i can just colorpick from that darker, saturated lineart color!
if it’s a more realistic piece i usually make the highlights lighter, but in simple doodles i find it unnecessary, and i dont like how light/white it looks :( i tend to just make the areas exposed to light more saturated
color in the rebound light~ in reality there’s usually not only one primary light source, at least there’d be secondary light from where light bounces off objects. in art we just emphasize that! so in large shadow areas, or in areas close to other objects/colors, i like to ‘splash’ other colors on
yeah this part is less intuitive for beginners and u have to learn a grasp on the concepts over time, like for lighting and structure. values can be more important than color, so i do suggest learning shading first before coloring, but only if u like (u can always be like me and just pull up references when u dont get how the light would fall on some materials :>). i have more general paint tips below! don’t give up okay, i believe in u nons, we’re all still in the eternal learning process together ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧
5. OOOOHHH SHINY ✨🤩
this step is just me being mesmerized by how easy it is to play with lighting in digital. i play around with the layer settings (multiply for shadow, overlay for light, and often try out the other settings too!). my favorite effect is the highlight glow thing, where u just make a copy layer of the highlights below the original layer, and blur it slightly so it looks like glow ✨✨🤩 overpriced acrylic could never
Tumblr media
6. COLOR ADJUST / EDIT
Truthfully i usually skip this step, but my more pro friends really vouch for it!! i think definitely an incredible thing with digital is that u can edit proportions and even color after you’re done. i think they usually use like the curves adjustment layer in photoshop until they get colors they like, but for me, well, in a reaally diligent day i like to slap on the “auto” fliter in the iphone’s photos edit button lmaoooo
🌺 GENERAL PAINTING TIPS
learn basic theory: i think theres free courses everywhere online, but heres a few things u might like to have a basic understanding of: color, perspective, shape language, lighting, composition. don’t sweat it too much tho, it should be fun to explore the concepts!
and for drawing hoomans: proportion, gesture, expression, and veery basic anatomy. i find that overall forms are so much more important to learn than like detailed anatomy bc u can always look it up lol
but remember, u mostly want to learn the rules so u know better ways to break them :)
uuuuse manyyyyy referencessss every time u draww!
^this includes other people’s art — when u see good stuff, figure out why u like it and apply it to ur own art
get feedback!!!!
draw tons!!! brainrot helps !! ;D
aaand thank u for coming to my ted talk! sorry for the ramble nonnie, i hope u got something out of this lol

do you have any drawing tips for digital artists??im suffering please (i have an ipad gen 5 and a stylus) but its the art which is hard like my lineart always sucks and- sorry if it was any trouble, i just wanna improve
love your drawing btw, they made me stan the red lotus while my cousin screams "HOW COULD YOU LOVE THEM" and i scream back "THEY ARE LOVEABLE"
LMAOOOOO THATS SO FUNNY its u & me vs ur cousins 😎😤
i have an art tutorial tag u can browse through, but also, let me tell you something: if you hate lineart, YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT!! here are some alternatives!
1. clean up your sketch & use it as lineart.
probably the simplest option to try out. & after you’ve practiced drawing digitally for a while, you’ll find it gets easier to make clean(ish) sketches right off the bat!
Tumblr media
2. use a traditional sketch.
if you have an easier time making traditional sketches/linearts, it’s TOTALLY okay to just use one of those instead of digital lineart. it’s not a “crutch” or whatever that will hinder your development as an artist, it’s just a way of making art more fun and natural.
in this example, i draw a little on top of the sketch to adjust it, but if you had a neater sketch you totally wouldn’t need to.
Tumblr media
3. make your sketch, color it, merge the layers, and paint.
this is the method i use. this video here is just a wip but i hope it can show you how the process works—for me, i love coloring and i’m SO impatient about getting to it. so i merge my layers and, as i’m doing things like making shadows and highlights, i’m also smoothing everything out, adjusting shapes, and turning the sketchy lines into neat ones. it’s the most organic process for me.

Hey I wanted to ask how you do your colored lineart (if you're okay with sharing :3), I think it looks SO pretty and always have wondered how you do it!!!
Haiii!! Its no issue at all, I love sharing my resources! Dont mind the bit of the late reply I had to get these off of my iPad (mobile tumblr moment)
Well, first you're gonna wanna color ur lines how u normally do!

I do this by alpha locking my lines layer (alpha lock is a layer setting that makes it so you can only draw on top of what is already in the layer), and using an airbrush with colors more saturated/a bit darker than the colors of the drawing.
Tumblr media
Turn off the alpha lock and duplicate the layer! Turning off the alpha lock is very important for the next step so dont forget!
Tumblr media
Blur the top layer, blurring it just slightly instead of fully blurring it creates the "burn" effect my lines have
Tumblr media
Now set the layer effect on your top layer to overlay! Leave the opacity all the way up

Hi, I've got a few questions for you if you don't mind answering them
1. How long does it take you to draw a drawing digitally? Do you have any tips on drawing digitally faster?
2. How do you shade? It looks SO good and I'm in love with your artstyle and shading 🥺
3. Are you ever gonna make a webtoon?
Sorry for bothering you, hope you're healthy, and have a nice day/night 🥰💜
sorry for taking so long to answer these!! i really had to think abt the answer so it took a while! sorry if the first one ended up being an essay
1. it tends to vary depending on how well i have the artwork planned out! the thing that tends to take the longest for me is the decision-making parts (sketch and composition, base colors, and colors again once im almost done but going “ok but...what if..”) and the rest(lineart, shading, details) is basically stuff that i can go on autopilot for. so if i already know what im gonna do and somehow stick to that, an artwork can take 3-6 hours depending on size! but most of the time it can take several days of having multiple artworks up at the same time, and making small changes in each at a time until im happy enough to move on lol. so its really hard to measure the time on those since i don’t really know if going back and forth between “lime green” and “turquoise green” for 2 days counts as me actually drawing. i also have a habit of always letting the artwork “rest” for a day inbetween steps where i dont look at it to make sure im not missing any obvious mistakes. (especially at the sketch and linework stage, if they look off the entire artwork will) looking at your art with a fresh eye is really important!
when it comes to speeding up the process i think simply drawing things often enough really is the way to go. its boring but to me the fast parts are only that bc ive done it so many times i dont have to think too much when doing it! (unless im trying something new, which i have been doing lately and oh wow we sure are Thinking in this house) also i see all my artworks as a very “step by step” routine, so i try to never go back once ive completed a step. it makes just moving forward easier. since i also have several artworks up at a time; theyre almost always at different steps in the process, so if i get stuck at or bored with say, lineart, i just go to another artwork where im doing final details and just have fun with that! it makes me feel like im always making progress somwhere. also dont be afraid to just redo something entirely if it looks off. save ur canvas and open a new one and start over, its usually way faster the second time and u keep ur previous mistakes in mind so overall? its faster than to keep adjusting the same parts of the artwork over and over and never really being happy with it, at least thats how it is for me! also also also; make your own brushes for things u already know how to draw but dont wanna do by hand 50 times over. like say, the diamonds in some of my works? theyre just a confetti esque brush with a bunch of diamonds i drew the outline of. then i color them in manually and do shinies and shades but i wont have to do linework for that at least, and its still in my “style” bc i drew them! (it also lessens the feeling of “cheating” that, i at least, tend to have at not doing everything manually) ....also get over the feeling that ur cheating when ur taking shortcuts. in this house we are Professionals who know what we are doing and there should be NO shame for achieving the same results more efficiently
2. ill post some images of my coloring process soon, i dont know if it explains things too well but it is an attempt hdhsbs
3. i cant write to save my life!! all i do is pretty drawings, which i love doing, but it would rule to someday work with others to create some form of comic or webtoon or just general story that i can illustrate!
