As of 23 February 2024, Google’s new-model AI chatbot, Gemini, has been debarred from creating images of people, because it can’t resist drawing racist ones. It’s not that it is producing bigoted caricatures—the problem is that it is curiously reluctant to draw white people. When asked to produce images of popes, Vikings, or German soldiers from World War II, it keeps presenting figures that are black and often female. This is racist in two directions: it is erasing white people, while putting Nazis in blackface. The company has had to apologise for producing a service that is historically inaccurate and—what for an engineering company is perhaps even worse—broken.
This cock-up raises many questions, but the one that sticks in my mind is: Why didn’t anyone at Google notice this during development? At one level, the answer is obvious: this behaviour is not some bug that merely went unnoticed; it was deliberately engineered. After all, an unguided mechanical process is not going to figure out what Nazi uniforms looked like while somehow drawing the conclusion that the soldiers in them looked like Africans. Indeed, some of the texts that Gemini provides along with the images hint that it is secretly rewriting users’ prompts to request more “diversity.”
Tumblr media
[ Source: https://www.piratewires.com/p/google-gemini-race-art ]
The real questions, then, are: Why would Google deliberately engineer a system broken enough to serve up risible lies to its users? And why did no one point out the problems with Gemini at an earlier stage? Part of the problem is clearly the culture at Google. It is a culture that discourages employees from making politically incorrect observations. And even if an employee did not fear being fired for her views, why would she take on the risk and effort of speaking out if she felt the company would pay no attention to her? Indeed, perhaps some employees did speak up about the problems with Gemini—and were quietly ignored.
The staff at Google know that the company has a history of bowing to employee activism if—and only if—it comes from the progressive left; and that it will often do so even at the expense of the business itself or of other employees. The most infamous case is that of James Damore, who was terminated for questioning Google’s diversity policies. (Damore speculated that the paucity of women in tech might reflect statistical differences in male and female interests, rather than simply a sexist culture.) But Google also left a lot more money on the table when employee complaints caused it to pull out of a contract to provide AI to the US military’s Project Maven. (To its credit, Google has also severely limited its access to the Chinese market, rather than be complicit in CCP censorship. Yet, like all such companies, Google now happily complies with take-down demands from many countries and Gemini even refuses to draw pictures of the Tiananmen Square massacre or otherwise offend the Chinese government).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There have been other internal ructions at Google in the past. For example, in 2021, Asian Googlers complained that a rap video recommending that burglars target Chinese people’s houses was left up on YouTube. Although the company was forced to admit that the video was “highly offensive and [...] painful for many to watch,” it stayed up under an exception clause allowing greater leeway for videos “with an Educational, Documentary, Scientific or Artistic context.” Many blocked and demonetised YouTubers might be surprised that this exception exists. Asian Googlers might well suspect that the real reason the exception was applied here (and not in other cases) is that Asians rank low on the progressive stack.
Given the company’s history, it is easy to guess how awkward observations about problems with Gemini could have been batted away with corporate platitudes and woke non-sequiturs, such as “users aren’t just looking for pictures of white people” or “not all Vikings were blond and blue-eyed.” Since these rhetorical tricks are often used in public discourse as a way of twisting historical reality, why wouldn’t they also control discourse inside a famously woke company?
Even if the unfree speech culture at Google explains why the blunder wasn’t caught, there is still the question of why it was made in the first place. Right-wing media pundits have been pointing fingers at Jack Krawczyk, a senior product manager at Google who now works on “Gemini Experiences” and who has a history of banging the drum for social justice on Twitter (his Twitter account is now private). But there seems to be no deeper reason for singling him out. There is no evidence that Mr Krawczyk was the decision-maker responsible. Nor is he an example of woke incompetence—i.e., he is not someone who got a job just by saying politically correct things. Whatever his Twitter history, Krawczyk also has a strong CV as a Silicon Valley product manager. To the chagrin of many conservatives, people can be both woke and competent at the same time.
Krawczyk is, at most, one example of the politically correct activist orthodoxy that blinds otherwise competent decision makers to the excesses of their ideology. That culture has organically permeated Silicon Valley, but it also has formal support structures within Google’s AI effort. One of these is the Responsible AI team, whose list of focus points begins with “equity and fairness” and ends with “applications for social good.” Similarly, their list of “AI Principles” is headed by the injunctions that AI should “be socially beneficial” and “avoid creating or reinforcing unfair bias.” The idea that it should truthfully reflect reality appears nowhere on the list, not even under the heading of “unfair bias” which Google elaborates in the following way:
AI algorithms and datasets can reflect, reinforce, or reduce unfair biases. We recognize that distinguishing fair from unfair biases is not always simple, and differs across cultures and societies. We will seek to avoid unjust impacts on people, particularly those related to sensitive characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, income, sexual orientation, ability, and political or religious belief.
Here Google is not promising to tell the truth, but rather to adjust the results of its algorithms whenever they seem unfair to protected groups of people.  And this, of course, is exactly what Gemini has just been caught doing.
All this is a betrayal of Google’s more fundamental promises. Its stated mission has always been to “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”—not to doctor that information for whatever it regards as the social good. And ever since “Don’t be evil” regrettably ceased to be the company’s motto, its three official values have been to respect each other, respect the user, and respect the opportunity. The Gemini fiasco goes against all three. Let’s take them in reverse order.
Disrespecting the Opportunity
Some would argue that Google had already squandered the opportunity it had as early pioneer of the current crop of AI technologies by letting itself be beaten to the language-model punch by OpenAI’s ChatGPT and GPT4. But on the other hand, the second-mover position might itself provide an opportunity for a tech giant like Google, with a strong culture of reliability and solid engineering, to distinguish itself in the mercurial software industry.
It’s not always good to “move fast and break things” (as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg once recommended), so Google could argue that it was right to take its time developing Gemini in order to ensure that its behaviour was reliable and safe. But it makes no sense if Google squandered that time and effort just to make that behaviour more wrong, racist, and ridiculous than it would have been by default.
Yet that seems to be what Google has done, because its culture has absorbed the social-justice-inflected conflation of “safety” with political correctness. This culture of telling people what to think for their own safety brings us to the next betrayed value.
Disrespecting the User
Politically correct censorship and bowdlerisation are in themselves insults to the intelligence and wisdom of Google’s users. But Gemini's misbehaviour takes this to new heights: the AI has been deliberately twisted to serve up obviously wrong answers. Google appears not to take its users seriously enough to care what they might think about being served nonsense.
Disrespecting Each Other
Once the company had been humiliated on Twitter, Google got the message that Gemini was not working right. But why wasn’t that alarm audible internally? A culture of mutual respect should mean that Googlers can point out that a system is profoundly broken, secure in the knowledge that the observation will be heeded. Instead, it seems that the company’s culture places respect for woke orthodoxy above respect for the contributions of colleagues.
Despite all this, Google is a formidably competent company that will no doubt fix Gemini—at least to the point at which it can be allowed to show pictures of people again. The important question is whether it will learn the bigger lesson. It will be tempting to hide this failure behind a comforting narrative that this was merely a clumsy implementation of an otherwise necessary anti-bias measure. As if Gemini’s wokeness problem is merely that it got caught.
Google’s communications so far have not been encouraging. While their official apology unequivocally admits that Gemini “got it wrong,” it does not acknowledge that Gemini placed correcting “unfair biases” above the truth to such an extent that it ended up telling racist lies. A leaked internal missive from Google boss Sundar Pichai makes matters even worse: Pichai calls the results “problematic” and laments that the programme has “offended our users and shown bias”—using the language of social justice, as if the problem were that Gemini was not sufficiently woke. Lulu Cheng Maservey, Chief Communications Officer at Activision Blizzard, has been scathing about Pichai’s fuzzy, politically correct rhetoric. She writes:
The obfuscation, lack of clarity, and fundamental failure to grasp the problem are due to a failure of leadership. A poorly written email is just the means through which that failure is revealed.
It would be a costly mistake for Google’s leaders to bury their heads in the sand. The company’s stock has already tumbled by $90 billion USD in the wake of this controversy. Those who are selling their stock might not care about the culture war per se, but they do care about whether Google is seen as a reliable conduit of information.
This loss is the cost of disrespecting users, and to paper over these cracks would just add insult to injury. Users will continue to notice Gemini’s biases, even if they fall below the threshold at which Google is forced to acknowledge them. But if Google resists the temptation to ignore its wokeness problem, this crisis could be turned into an opportunity. Google has the chance to win back the respect of colleagues and dismantle the culture of orthodoxy that has been on display ever since James Damore was sacked for presenting his views.
Google rightly prides itself on analysing and learning from failure. It is possible that the company will emerge from this much stronger. At least, having had this wake-up call puts it in a better position than many of our other leading institutions, of which Google is neither the wokest nor the blindest. Let’s hope it takes the opportunity to turn around and stop sleepwalking into the darkness.

During a conversation on the “War on Technology” at Benton, Louisiana’s Cypress Baptist Church — unearthed by X user Receipt Maven last week — the Louisiana representative talked about how he installed “accountability software” called Covenant Eyes on his devices in order to abstain from internet porn and other unsavory websites.
“It scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, your laptop, what have you; we do all of it,” Johnson told the panel about the app.
“It sends a report to your accountability partner. My accountability partner right now is Jack, my son. He’s 17. So he and I get a report about all the things that are on our phones, all of our devices, once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice. I’m proud to tell ya, my son has got a clean slate.”

Cybernews has confirmed a five-year-old Facebook glitch is sending automatic friend requests to the Facebook profiles you visit – leaving some online stalkers, er, we mean snoopers, quite embarrassed.
Whether it's your latest Hinge match, an old crush from high school, or even the new neighbors down the block, we've all done it. Social media snooping, that is.
Normally, when you snoop on someone’s social media profile, the person has no idea and will never find out.
But some Facebook users are finding out that a little-known bug in the social media platform is exposing their shadowy behavior by automatically triggering a Facebook friend request when visiting certain individual profile pages.
The privacy glitch is definitely raising some eyebrows and even causing panic among users around the world.
“THERES A FACEBOOK GLITCH DONT FACEBOOK STALK ANYONE IT SENDS THEM A FRIEND REQUEST,” one social media maven tweeted.

Sendinblue is now Brevo! Bravo!
Hey there, digital marketing mavens and e-commerce experts! Have you heard the news? Sendinblue, the powerful marketing and CRM platform that has been empowering businesses of all sizes for over a decade, has officially rebranded as Brevo. And let me tell you, it's a move worth cheering about!
Tumblr media
First off, let's talk about the reason behind the rebrand. As the team at Brevo shared in their official announcement, the platform has grown significantly since its inception in 2012. While Sendinblue originally started as a newsletter service, today it offers so much more. With a full CRM suite that includes marketing and messaging tools across multiple channels (including email, SMS, WhatsApp, and chat), Brevo is a one-stop-shop for businesses looking to create exceptional customer experiences at scale.
But as the team realized, the name "Sendinblue" was no longer sufficient to capture the full scope of the platform's offerings. That's where the new name, Brevo, comes in. Inspired by the word "bravo," which celebrates success, Brevo represents not only the platform's mission to empower businesses to forge lasting customer relationships, but also the team's confidence in their clients' ability to succeed.
So what does this rebrand mean for you, as a digital marketer or e-commerce entrepreneur?
In short, it means more tools, more capabilities, and more potential for growth. With Brevo's expanded offerings, you'll be able to create personalized, engaging experiences for your customers across multiple channels. You'll have access to a suite of CRM tools that can help you streamline your workflows and better understand your customers' behaviors. And perhaps most importantly, you'll have a partner in Brevo that is committed to helping you succeed.
But don't just take my word for it. Check out the new Brevo website (seriously, it's a visual feast) and see for yourself what the platform has to offer. And if you're already a Sendinblue user, rest assured that the transition to Brevo will be a smooth one. In fact, the team at Brevo has promised that they'll continue to offer the same great features and services that users have come to rely on, while also introducing new innovations and capabilities.
Tumblr media
So let's give a round of applause to Sendinblue for becoming Brevo. Bravo! With this rebrand, the platform is poised to help even more businesses succeed in the ever-evolving digital landscape. And we can't wait to see what the future holds.

Red queen characters if they played genshin impact
(they would have to be from our time to play it, so let's imagine it as a modern au) and I may regret mixing this two things part 2
Cal
- has all 5 stars, both limited and standard banner.
- not f2p at all
- more crystals than primo gems
- thinks mondstat is the best region
- likes to fight against La Signora and hates fighting against Oceanid, since his party consists more in pyro and geo characters (i headcananon it as Diluc, Zhongli, Itto and maybe Hu Tao but he's always swapping the fourth space)
- when he started playing, he was a Kaeya main
- chose Aether
- listens mostly do boss theme music
- favorite one is Raiden Shogun second fight theme
- doesn't like fighting Dvalin
Maven
- looses 50/50 constantly, always to Qiqi
- has almost every character, but really wants Ayato
- lost his 50/50 to Keqing once, but she was already C6, so... Completely useless
- the reason Cal downloaded genshin
- could be using money to buy crystals instead of doing daily commissions to get 60 primo gems? Yeah, totally
- why he doesn't? He wants to enjoy the game and run away from reality
- got mad while fighting Raiden Shogun when he first arrived at Inazuma and lowered his world level so he could beat her
- finally won
- hates Yae Miko with a burning passion
- his favorite region is Inazuma, but prefers mondstat ost
- his team is pure elemental reaction
- kind of accidentally chose Lumine
- thought he could change it while playing
- Childe apologist
- reasons: cool backstory, cool designs, nice voice, he's hot, very strong character, he's hot, cool design
- never, ever gets good weapon
- one of his dreams in game is to get a 5 star and it's character weapon
- worse boss to fight in his opinion is Raiden Shogun and Azhdaha
Mare
- Kujou Sara and Beidou main
- wanted Ayaka, got Ayaka C1
- Gisa helped her doing her daily commissions, ofc
- her favorite region is Inazuma, not because it's the land of lighting, she just likes it and the music too
- loves fighting against Childe and Raiden Shogun (her favorite part of Inazuma's chapter was the first fight with her) and hates fighting against Dvalin
- because of the camera angle, ofc because EVERYONE hates it
- hates the fatui mages with her whole soul, because she's main electro
- and cryo cicin mages are just devil's incarnation, so she avoids them in general
- chose Lumine
- answered "emergency food" when Amber asked what Paimon was
- when she started playing, she tried to get Barbara's C6
- constantly kills Timmie's birds
- she doesn't like using bow and arrow, so she avoids wishing for characters who uses bow and arrow
- wanted a 4 star in Yoimiya's banner and got Yoimiya, a bow user
Gisa
- probably the first amongst everyone here to play genshin
- converted Shade and Kilorn, who converted Mare to play this
- somehow, almost never looses 50/50
- started as a main Lisa
- loves Liyue region and also it's ost
- chose Aether
- loves fighting against Oceanid, since she uses cryo and electro in her party
- Patiently waiting for Kazuha's rerun
- thought he would just be a 5 star Sucrose
- used to fear ruin guards, now she kinda likes fighting them
- "YELAN COM HOME"
- she really wants Yelan
Kilorn
- probably accidentally activated Bennett's C6
- he'll never forgive himself
- accidentally got Itto while trying to get Barbara's C6
- cellphone player
- can't type while fighting
- hates fighting against fatuis
- very bad at building his characters and at least one time someone will ask to help him build his characters better
- chose Lumine
- doesn't have a favorite region, but is excited to Sumeru update
- loves Liyue ost
- plays the game out of pure fun, doesn't care if he has all or none 5 star characters
- surprisingly, the first to explore the chasm
Evangeline
- her main party consists of Eula, Raiden Shogun, Kujou Sara and Fischl (fischl is there probably because it's one of her girlfriend's main)
- saw Elane playing and decided to join
- wants Yun Jin so bad but it's the only 4 star she doesn't have
- chose Lumine
- loves anything related to Liyue
- believe it or not, her favorite boss is Azhdaha because it's the only challenging thing in the game til now
- mains cryo
- Yelan wanter
Elane
- among the silvers, she was the first to play this
- Already knows Fischl's lines and repeats them with her while playing
- Raiden Shogun apologist
- loves both Liyue arc and Inazuma arc
- everytime she comes back to mondstat she finds it very nostalgic
- y'know those little elemental plants? Yeah, she hates them too
- loves fighting against Childe and La Signora, and is patiently waiting for Scaramouche to become playable or a boss
- chose Aether
- hates fighting cicin mages in general and the hydro and cryo fatui duo
- almost never looses 50/50
- got Diluc as her first five star, but she wanted Jean and never even leveled Diluc past lvl1
- probably in the fandom
- will probably scream once she sees Dottore in-game
Farley
- Saw Shenhe and knew she had to get her
- got her after 10 wishes
- the slowest of the character's in playing, since she plays it only sometimes and after maybe 3-4 updates
- but she build her characters well
- probably loved the Windbloom festival and the second lantern rite
- chose Aether
- hates fighting La Signora, because her main party consists of Chongyun (cryo), Shenhe (cryo), Thoma (pyro) and Barbara (hydro)
- probably listens to the Inazuma OST while working
- favorite OST is Raiden Shogun boss fight theme 2
- may or may not shed a tear in Imperatrix Umbrosa act II
Shade
- got Gorou and never ever thinks of removing him from any of the four partys
- loved the Windbloom and Lantern Rite festivals so much
- tried to get Xiao, lost it to Diluc
- now he has a level 1 C6 Diluc
- chose Lumine
- hates fighting against Childe but almost everyone in his party needs one of Childe's material drops
- Uses Rosaria because she reminds him of Farley
- trying to get Gorou's constellations
- really wants Kokomi rerun
- he's still waiting for it
- but Childe got three reruns :D
- also, he hates Ajax/Childe

Skyrim Tarot Deck - Minor Arcana
Bit of a disappointment, this - first off they changed the suit names.  Wands is Spells, Swords is Arms, Pentacles is Lockpicks, and Cups is the suit of Voice.  And the pip cards just have the pips, no narrative pictures.  Sigh.  This is what happens when people who don’t know Tarot get let loose on this stuff.  Symbolism axed and now it doesn’t chuffing mean anything.
I’d have liked to have seen the four faction questlines depicted on the Minor Cards, with faction NPCs as the Court cards.  Wands can stay as the magic themed one based around the College (wands traditionally associated with magic users and its traditional element of fire is something mages are fond of) but call it the Suit of Staves, come on.  Swords becomes the Suit of Daggers and takes on the Brotherhood, reflecting the Swords theme of conflict and discord quite well.  Thieves get the Earth element because they love money, but Suit of Septims is better - Pentacles were supposed to reflect coinage.  Leaving Companions with Cups which sounds odd for the element of water, love and emotions to go there - but they live in a mead hall.  Flagons everywhere!  And their guild name reflects fellowship and family, and they’re the most emotional of the factions.  They wear their hearts on their sleeves, so yeah, Cups or the Suit of Flagons.
How I’d have done it:
Aces (pure force of the element) - the faction logo or headquarters, so the Guild symbol as a shadowmark with a septim in the circular bit for Septims.  For Flagons, the front of Jorrvaskr with a symbolic tankard above the door.  For Daggers, the Black Door with the knife I’m sure is on there already highlighted and moved more centrally.  And for Staves, the College main gate with a staff randomly hovering in front barring your way.
Then 2- 10 is the questline so...
Two (new beginnings, self meeting other):
Staves - Faralda at the College outer gate barring the way to a young apprentice, both holding a staff.  Daggers - an assassin with a knife sneaking up on Aventus Aretino, who is also using a knife to perform the Sacrament.  Septims - Brynjolf holding out a septim to a crowd of onlookers while someone is pickpocketing another septim into or out of Brand-Shei’s pocket.  Flagons - Kodlak offering a flagon to a new recruit while Vilkas looks on, grimacing into his own.
Three (initial achievement or milestone):
Staves - new apprentice successfully wards off Tolfdir’s firebolt, watched by the three staff-wielding existing apprentices. Daggers - Astrid pointing the new assassin to a table with three knives on it, with the three hooded prisoners in the shack awaiting their fate.  Septims - the new thief hands three oversized septims to Brynjolf with the three shopkeepers looking dejected in the background.  Flagons - Skjor and Aela each holding a flagon as the new recruit gives Aela her shield, Farkas is behind with another one.
Four (reaches a plateau or stable place):
Staves - Eye of Magnus in place at the College, several wizards admiring it, including Tolfdir and the apprentice.  Four of them are holding staffs.  Daggers - Assassin is standing over Alain Dufont and Nilsine’s bodies, knife in the back of each, taking money off an ecstatic Muiri.  They both have knives as well.  Septims - Maven handing four large septims to the thief, background decoration of Mallus taking the Honningbrew sign off the meadery with a Black-Briar one ready for mounting on the ground.  Flagons - the recruit is handing a piece of Wuuthrad to Kodlak while the other Circle members raise a flagon each... but they’re not smiling.
Five (stability collapses):
Staves - Augur of Dunlain surrounded by four floating staffs confronting a scared apprentice, also with a staff in hand.  Daggers - the assassin is standing before an exposed Night Mother with Cicero capering and Astrid looking furious. All three have daggers and the Night Mother has two hanging in her coffin.  Septims - two scenes on one card - the thief confronting Gulum-Ei in the background and in the foreground, the thief talking to an appalled Mercer. All four figures have a large Septim in hand and there’s a big one in the middle separating the scenes.  Flagons - Aela and the recruit stand over Skjor’s corpse at Gallows Rock, flagon in each of their hands and a spilled one next to Skjor.
Six (movement, recovery):
Staves - the apprentice stepping over dead Synod mages and Falmer to pick up a Focusing Crystal, one staff in their hand and the rest on the floor belonging to corpses.  Daggers - the assassin meeting Amaund Motierre and Rexus, each with two blades.  Septims - Mercer opening the entrance to Snowveil Sanctum while the thief looks on (six septims on the door).  Flagons - the recruit in beast form is savaging an entire Silver Hand camp, two in the beast’s hands, the rest on a table in the background.
Seven (a challenge, crisis point):
Staves - Magical anomalies attack the apprentice and various wizards while Ancano behind a ward manipulates the Eye.  Daggers - in the background several assassins gather round a bleeding Veezara. In the foreground the assassin looms over a wounded Cicero in Dawnstar Sanctuary.  Septims - Mercer is impaling the thief while a shadowy Karliah flees.  Flagons - Kodlak is on Jorrvaskr steps pointing towards a distant cave while a dejected recruit heads out to do his bidding. Five flagons hover in the air with the witches heads above them, Kodlak and the recruit hold one each.
Eight (needing to rebuild, starting over):
Staves - Savos Aren lies dead, six staves arrayed about him, while Mirabelle passes a torc to the apprentice - they already have a staff each.  Daggers - pandemonium breaking loose as the Emperor keels over at a feast and the Oculatus move on the assassin.  Septims - the thief and Karliah bring the eight septims and Gallus’s journal to a sceptical Guild while the vault lies empty behind them.  Flagons - Jorrvaskr in mourning as the recruit and Vilkas leave it behind, six flagons arrayed round Kodlak’s body while Vilkas and the recruit have one each.
Nine (harvesting the results of previous work with the element):
Staves - the wizard is clutching the Staff of Magnus as Morokei lies dead behind him, showing the signs of a hard-won fight and then Estormo arrives with another staff in hand to confront them.  Seven others are on Labyrinthian’s walls.  Daggers - Falkreath Sanctuary lies in ruins and the Listener kneels by Astrid as Black Sacrament, eight daggers embedded in her and the Blade of Woe in their hand as the ninth.  Septims - the thief has returned the Key and Nocturnal is there bestowing riches. Gallus and Karliah are in the background, a Septim each and holding hands.  Flagons - Eorlund has the reforged Wuuthrad, offering it to an overjoyed Circle.  Eorlund has a flagon in his free hand and the four Circle members have two each.
Ten (culmination, the element reaches its peak):
Staves - the Psijics have come for the Eye and a grateful College names the wizard Archmage, with the five professors of each school of magic plus the master enchanter all with a staff each, and the three Psijics also raising one each at the Eye.  Despite wearing the Archmage robes and holding the Staff of Magnus, the wizard doesn’t entirely look happy.  Daggers - nine daggers in Titus Mede’s cooling corpse, and the tenth in the Listener’s hand as they savour the moment.  Septims - the thief is acclaimed Guild Master and the Guild all raise a septim to them.  Flagons - the warrior is now Harbinger and is toasted as such by the Circle at Jorrvaskr. In the sky there’s a picture of Kodlak approaching Tsun with a flagon in hand for him.
The Court Cards are normally representative of people, so we get faction NPCS, namely:
Kings (person capable of effectively wielding the element):
Staves - Mirabelle Ervine, staff in one hand, tome in the other, standing outside the College and glancing up as if to welcome you in.   Daggers - Spectral Lucien Lachance, circlet just visible under the hood and knife in his hand, approaching across the snow with a brutally murdered corpse in the background.  Septims - Gallus in his Nightingale gear with treasure at his feet in the Cistern.  Flagons - Kodlak Whitemane, seated at his table in Jorrvaskr, flagon in hand, raised in a toast with a smile on his face.
Queens (person who embodies the element, seen as one who represents it without necessarily needing to do anything):
Staves - Tolfdir, sitting down with his staff leaning against his chair, clearly just relaxing in his College room.  Daggers - Astrid sitting on top of the shelf in the Abandoned Shack, Blade of Woe at her side.  Septims - Karliah, pulling the hood of her Nightingale armour down, Nightingale obelisk marking the Hall’s entrance in the background.  Obviously she’s got a loot chest at her feet overflowing with goodies.  Flagons - Farkas.  Why?  He’s the kindest of the lot and always willing to share a mead, which this card has him doing, offering you a drink by a fire.
Knights (adolescent form of the element, person wielding it but not necessarily that skilfully or with any direction, may not be able to predict consequences and not ready for leadership):
Staves - J’zargo, staff of magic at the ready, hissing as if to start a fight.  Daggers - Arnbjorn, forging a dagger with a scowl on his face.  Septims - Brynjolf trying to sell his Falmer blood elixir, Guild shadowmark on show.  Flagons - Aela holding a flagon of beast blood to her lips, wiping it away from her mouth.
Pages (child form of the element, someone just starting out, a student):
Staves - Brelyna practicing her magic on a volunteer. Judging from the way she’s staring at a cow in the middle of the College, it wasn’t supposed to do that.  Daggers - Babette smiling at you with a basket of poisonous flowers on her arm.  Septims - Vekel the Man, sweeping the Ragged Flagon. Not really a proper thief but he dabbles.  Flagons - Ria, practicing on a training dummy.
There!  Minor Arcana as it should have been.  Alas we didn’t get this. Still.  The official deck is pretty and maybe worth ordering if you want it as a keepsake or novelty.  But for goodness sake, get the Rider-Waite or Mythic Tarot if you want something for actual Tarot work.

Canada Calling: Top Tips for Buying the Best Mobile Phone
Tumblr media
Looking to upgrade your phone or snag a snazzy new model? Canadians have a wealth of options when it comes to buying smartphones in Canada. But with so many brands, features, and carriers vying for your attention, navigating the market can feel overwhelming. Fear not, fellow phone enthusiasts! This guide will equip you with the knowledge to make an informed decision and land the perfect mobile companion.
Decoding Your Needs: The Feature Focus
Before diving into online mobile phone prices in Canada, take a moment to consider your phone's primary role. Are you a photography aficionado seeking a phone with a stellar camera? A social media maven who needs a long-lasting battery?
The Photography Powerhouse: For shutterbugs, brands like Apple with their iPhone 14 series and Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra boast top-notch camera systems with exceptional low-light photography and advanced editing capabilities.
The Productivity Pro: If you're a business phone warrior, prioritize features like a large, high-resolution display for multitasking. Consider flagships like the Google Pixel 7 Pro or the upcoming foldable options hitting the market, offering a tablet-like experience when unfolded.
The Budget-Conscious: Who says amazing phones have to break the bank? Brands like Xiaomi and Nokia offer fantastic value with their mid-range selections. These strike a balance between affordability and essential features like decent cameras, good battery life, and capable processors.
Carrier Conundrum: Locked vs. Unlocked
It is necessary to know the difference between phones that are locked and those that are not. Locked phones are tied to a specific carrier, often bundled with a phone plan at a discounted price. Unlocked phones offer more flexibility, allowing you to switch carriers at will.
Exploring the Canadian Mobile Landscape: Where to Buy?
Now, let's talk shopping! Here are some popular Canadian destinations to find the best mobile phone deals:
Big Box Retailers: Giants like Best Buy and Walmart offer a wide selection of phones and carrier plans under one roof.
Mobile Carrier Stores: Directly purchasing from your carrier ensures you get the best deal on their plans, but you might be limited to their phone selection.
Online Retailers: Amazon.ca, gadgetward.com, Canada-Electronics, and reputable electronics stores offer competitive prices and often have exclusive online deals.
Pro Tip: Utilize price comparison websites to track online mobile phone prices in Canada. This helps you find the best deals across different retailers.
Beyond the Basics: Considerations for the Savvy Buyer
Here are a few final points to remember:
Storage Space: Photos, apps, and games can quickly devour storage. Consider your usage and opt for enough storage to avoid future headaches.
Battery Life: Frequent travelers or heavy phone users should prioritize extended battery life.
Operating System (OS): Choose between Android and iOS (Apple). Android boasts more customization options, while iOS offers a smoother, more integrated user experience.
The Final Verdict
Buying a smartphone in Canada doesn't have to be a daunting task. By identifying your needs, exploring your options, and leveraging the information provided, you'll be well on your way to finding the perfect phone that fits your budget and lifestyle. Happy shopping!
