new guy! the outfit design actually comes from an older character i’m repurposing.
Their relationship to the other characters is as a genuinely formidable though quite reasonable antagonist working against them, and later as an ally after they develop a friendly relationship with some of the protags and also fall from grace. Some character info below the cut:
Esvareen is a young fellow (~19 equivalent) living an average life in the colossal spaceship-city the story takes place in. Their neighbours and coworkers know them as a demure and anxious but amicable individual.
The greater factions of the city know them by the alias of Passepartout, the mysterious informant for a local crime boss whose expertise lies in cyber espionage and reconnaissance. They’re very skilled at digging up whatever the boss needs, be that dirt on individuals, security data, floor plans, private records, and etc. They’ve also been linked to the distribution of malware, usually of the more discreet and often overlooked kind to aid in their work.
They’ve managed to keep these two identities wholly seperate, with no one but the crime boss aware of their double life. And the boss and them go way back, so Esva was feeling pretty comfortable with this whole arrangement.
That is, up until the boss was incapacitated and left Esva with the responsibility of overseeing the whole operation. Which none of the henchmen nor Esva themself are super jazzed about. The boss’s subordinates don’t know or trust them, and Esva has rarely interacted with them in person and is wary of them all in turn. There’s been accusations that Esva manipulated their way into leadership and caused the boss’s downfall, or at least is undeserving of the position. And since they won’t even show their face, they could be anyone.
To try and retain command, they’re now having to directly participate in schemes and heists, making them more vulnerable to attack or identification. And ohhhh buddy, they’ve made so many enemies in all the factions. Past targets of the boss who would just loooooooooove to get their hands on Esva, either figuring out how to blackmail them into changing allegiances or just to pay them back in blood and pain for all the headaches their digital attacks have caused. And they don’t trust that their own men won’t stab them in the back to claim their authority. All they can do is try to play the part and keep everything under control (and their adversaries subdued into inaction) for as long as they can.

the thing about the queer media tournament that really gets me is that last i checked there wasn't a single mxtx work on it. like not even the untamed made it in and don't get me wrong the og mo dao zu shi books are huge but cql is def more popular among tumblr circles. idk it just really rubs me the wrong way how every single piece of western media that ppl have ever gotten a lil bit aggressive abt shipping with is there and then for east asian media there's utena and madoka magica and the handmaiden and last i checked that was pretty much it. and then for the rest of the world there's next to/nothing but idk enough to really make judgements there.

your ideal/headcanon version of it? how does it differ from how it is in canon & why is this your favorite version? any other alternate versions of it you enjoy?
what do you like about their relationship, why is it interesting or enjoyable to you?
what about the individual characters involved? what does this relationship mean to them, what makes it unique among their relationships?

Amuro's meeting with Lt. Matilda Ajan gave me a couple realizations.
Between a messy bedroom, being an anti-social genius, a strained paternal relationship, and now a fondness for redheads, Miorine Rembran is never ever beating the Amuro Ray allegations^. If these two ever meet in a crossover, any attempts at friendship will entirely depend on whether either is feeling a bout of self-loathing at the time.
I was also reminded that, it is a good idea to double-check conventional fan wisdom, because I have been informed several times in good faith that the Newtype space magic that Gundam's become famous for came out of left field in the original, but this scene seems to contradict with straightforward foreshadowing: Amuro's not denying the existence of espers here, only the possibility that he might be one, thus implying that there is probability that they exist in this setting (and since esper is a reasonably common term in Japanese science fiction in general, it makes sense that the audience would be expected to understand this without explanation or disbelief).
In addition, Amuro's denial feels like a callback to the conversation between Char and his lieutenant, Dren, in episode 01, where Dren is not denying that the Federation might be developing more advanced mobile suits, but merely expressing his disbelief that they would be doing so in this particular location.
And since Dren was proven wrong earlier, this gives precedent for the audience to consider, well, what if Amuro is wrong too? What if he is a psychic like Matilda says?
I don't know yet if the show offers any foreshadowing beyond that, but between this scene and genre conventions, I don't think bringing psychic stuff later into this story is as unreasonable as I've seen some people claim.
^With one notable difference being that her love life goes in a much happier direction than poor Amuro's.

Interview: STAR TREK’s Alexander Siddig celebrates Arab-American Heritage Month
A lot of gay men at that time, and maybe even gay women, kinda responded to the Bashir character. I think that was because of (Gar/shir,) and maybe the bravery of not only that, but also an implicitly Muslim character being potentially gay, potentially bi, potentially gay if they’d explored that route...
That is something Garak brought with him to the party, a bottle of implied homosexuality. I think that was something very good, very useful to the gay community, particularly for the ones who responded to Bashir, because Bashir really shone for awkward people...
At my first meeting with Garak I became visibly flustered. That was entirely my choice. It wasn’t written into the script. So I set off in that direction right from the get-go. And Andy (Andrew Robinson) obviously loved it, and that character became a series-long character because of that first scene...
And I’ve done it numerous times since, characters that are written straight I just make sure are not quite straight. That’s just one of my things, probably because I’m not quite straight myself and that’s probably perfect...
There is no one person inside anybody. There is no absolute male, and no absolute female, and we’re learning that now more than ever. And Garak wasn’t absolutely male. My first review was “And Bashir throws like a girl!” So hey, there you go, someone picked it up. They got it. They didn’t like it, but they got it.

Hot Chocolate Cookie or just Hot Choco Cookie!!!! An OC!!!
A disaster lesbian with a fixation on magic, it's history and how it works (including the forbidden stuff)
Some unrelated fun facts:
- Cocoa Cookie's younger sister;
- She herself wields Dessert Magic, doesn't make her less curious about other kinds of magic;
- Would have a field Day in the City of Wizards or Blueberry Yogurt Academy, admires Pure Vanilla Kingdom for their healing magic, also admires Pure Vanilla Cookie himself (Girl is a fan of Ancients in general but still)

So I am a munver shipper, let's get that out of the way first so my bias is front and center.
Jason is a prick,we can all agree, but he didn't deserve to die like that. No fanfare, no mourning, not even time to realise what's happening, he's so scared and confused as the upside down tears him appart it's difficult to watch. There are no characters that I would stand my ground and say 100% deserved/deserve to die in this show but even if there was, Jason wouldn't be anywhere near the top of that list. He is a child, he is 18 years old , his girlfriend and best friend have just been murdered by what he thinks is a satanic cult in the space of 2 fuckin days. When we see him and Nancy in the gun show he's clearly been drinking, maybe since the funeral and Patrick's death which was at least 3 days ago. The boy is not ok and I'm not happy to see people celebrate his death like he deserved it. He was scared, alone, confused and out of his mind with grief and alcohol and again HES A CHILD. Was what he did to Max Lucas and Erica ok? Fuck no, but his life shouldn't be forfit for such a mistake. Imagine you're Jason. You've gone to the cops and they don't believe you, your friends don't believe you, most of the town doesn't believe you. They think Eddie is a murderer but the magic shit you've seen cant be explained any other way. It's just like with billy, of someone had taken 5 minutes to explain what the fuck was going on like they did with Eddie maybe things wouldn't have tuned out so badly.
Thanks for coming to my STed talk. Next time I'm going to explain my horrific idea for how some of the dead characters could come back in the upside down.
Edit: billy antis stay off this post, this isn't an Jason or Eddie good billy bad post. This is pro all 3 lads.

just now remembering how much Lessons in Chemistry resonated with Char while I was watching it, and for none of the actual narrative reasons that the show's drama followed along. it was, of course, the premise taking advantage of the clear but seldom romanticized intersection between cooking and chemistry; it was the details, such as: Elizabeth destroying her kitchen and renovating it to function as a chemistry lab and kitchen, her making coffee using lab - ware, her treating cooking like an experiment and her chemistry experiments like life-sustaining cuisine, it was her sometimes getting poor results despite doing everything "right" by the science protocol or recipe because sometimes chaos bubbles just out of our control.
