it’s always been hilarious to me that for a website that likes to jerk itself off endlessly for apparently being one of the most “accepting” and “open” places on the internet, tumblr sure is fucking cutthroat with telling people how they should/shouldn’t present themselves, how or what they should/shouldn’t draw or create, and what media they should/shouldn’t consume
#it's been like this for over a decade#this is one of the most intolerant platforms i have ever fucking seen#people are genuinely fucking abhorrent to people here for consuming certain types of media or drawing a certain way#or how they choose to identify#i am not fucking joking or pulling up a strawman when i say that fucking 4chan is arguably way more tolerant than this godforesaken shithole#this isn't about anything in particular it's just a general observation i've had for years now#and after taking a break from here and coming back i'm now just realising how seriously fucking vile people are to each other here#it's fucking insane just how detached tumblr is from the real world#i see the most godawful takes on this website that would make any normal fucking person go 'what the fuck' because it's the most aggressive#and stupid shit that's usually pulled out entirely from their asses that everyone here will take at 100% face value and act like it's the#'right' thing to do or say#granted tumblr has definitely improved compared to how it was several years ago but i still see some utterly stupid and awful posts with#thousands of fucking notes on a nigh-daily basis#it's why i refuse to partake or share in any remotely 'political' posts here unless it's something i sincerely believe can help people or is#something that i feel is actually important for me to share#i have so many fucking terms blacklisted so i can avoid this shite as much as possible and somehow these weird-ass posts still find a way#onto my dash lmao#sure is authoritarian as fuck here despite the site constantly wanking off muh anarchy#dax rambles

Idk why I'm even saying this depressing shit, but I get an awful feeling it's only a matter of time before some bad faith right wing doomer dude (who may or may not have gendery feelings one way or another that he doesn't have the guts to actually deal with. Doesn't matter) takes it upon himself to furfill the boogyman prophecy of "men in dresses invading woman's spaces" to commit some horrible act of public indecency just to get 15mins of fame before offing himself (or worse, quickly "detransitioning" and claiming some christain flavoured rebirth/repentance to tucker carlson and co) knowing actual trans/lgbtq people will cop the horrific backlash. It just seems like the jokerfied shit some prick would pull. I'd hardly be surprised if there isn't some right wing think tank trying to goad someone with a big plastic check rn to take up the task

the genocide in gaza has been going on for 6 months and there is rarely a day i don't think about it or post anything on any of my social media accounts.
i can't not post about gaza and bring awareness.
and i can't believe that none of my friends have shared anything, and i'm upset with how little my siblings and mother have.
i've known about isntreal's violent treatment towards palestinians for years. and even back then i was shocked people didn't give a shit or know about it, which wasn't their fault. western media is bullshit propaganda that purposely does not educate... so i was like "ok i can see how you wouldnt know about this."
but now day after day, we are witnessing this ethnic cleansing, while palestininas are living it and for people to say they "don't know much" about it, or they aren't educated enough or blah blah.
you have 0 excuses. people are protesting all over the world, palestinians are sharing what is going on all over social media. students are setting up encampments, people have blocked ships, disrupted political events, set themselves on fire..
you had 0 excuses at the beginning of this and you have even less excuses now at month 6
i am so sick of people being willfully ignorant and playing dumb, just admit you didn't care at the start of this, and you don't care now. your apathy is disgusting. your indifference is vile.
free palestine.

Hilary Clinton is a perpetual disappointment. I have had sympathy for her in the past given the rampant sexism and misogyny she has had to face -directly from her colleagues to mass media, and especially considering she's had to navigate decades of a career where mostly men berated her and many women for getting into politics because women are 'too emotional.'
Given the history of the Clinton's even their evils and complicity in US imperialism, Sana calls this out perfectly -Hilary, like her fellow politicians who weaponize feminism across the political spectrum in order to push their agenda is both vile and counter to the heart of feminist movements -which is challenging and dismantling powerful institutions/structures/governments that oppress people -in order to create real systemic changes.
Hilary, you cannot sit there and tell people you care about women and girls when Palestinian women and girls are being disproportionately and PURPOSELY targeted by the IOF. Hilary, you cannot look away from the sexual violence and abuse Palestinian women have and continue to face (the recent UN report is ONE example). Hilary, you're a hypocrite whose own 'sympathy' only extends to those apart of the empire you work for. Hilary, while you're standing on the side of the oppressor, you're simultaneously becoming one yourself (or to be quite frank -you already are one).

Last week, in my Discord group of about 60 lifelong friends (and I mean really lifelong, danced-at-the-wedding, phone-call-for-the-divorce friends), one person posted a "from the river to the sea" meme they'd found on Twitter. I made clear that it was a huge problem, that person apologized and deleted it, everyone else seemed supportive and understanding.
And surprised.
Because none of them - not ONE of them - had ever heard the term before, nor knew what the river or the sea were, nor had any clue it could possibly be seen as threatening. That included the person who posted it in the first place. These are all college graduates, some of them with post-college degrees, all liberal Democrats who agree with everything John Oliver ever said.
The discussion went as well and as supportively as it possibly could have, but I am still floored by how.... remote the topic was from all of their lives. Including how remote it was for other Jewish members of the group (though I can't help but notice that those other Jewish members are unaffiliated and don't have kids).
I bring this up because it shows that social media really can exaggerate the scale of threats we perceive and experience. And if you had told me that more than a week ago, I would have cut you off and said "Of course, I know that, I'm not naive" - but it still would never have occurred to me that it could reach such a degree. How constantly reading updates on war and hate and protests and threats really can give a distorted and inaccurate picture of the world.
One time on Reddit, I noticed a pro-Palestine account that was positively obsessed with the "boogaloo boys," a purported sub-set of white supremacists. This person mentioned "boogaloo boys" probably 80 times a week, in the context of how their racial civil war was about to begin and would target Arab-Americans first. And it really began to look weird - a focus beyond their importance. I'm sure nobody would ever want to meet a "boogaloo boy," of course, but I also think this person made more posts about that group than the number of members there are in the actual group.
Has anyone outside age 18-23 and outside a college campus ever met a member of SJP? They're pretty horrible people, but they go tabling right next to all sorts of splintercranks who dissolve once you graduate.
There is a real perceptual, emotional downside to seeking out hatred and threats so one can announce "Aha! Look at all this hatred and threats!". It is not only privilege that allows people to avoid some problems and conflicts - it can also be demographic, political reality. It is important to know who hates and threatens us - and also to remain members of "the reality-based community." Internet discussions are not real life, college campuses are not real life, internet discussions among college students are the least real of all.
Scott Alexander touched on this - how certain political beliefs can be avoided even without conscious effort:
According to Gallup polls, about 46% of Americans are creationists. Not just in the sense of believing God helped guide evolution. I mean they think evolution is a vile atheist lie and God created humans exactly as they exist right now. That’s half the country.
And I don’t have a single one of those people in my social circle. It’s not because I’m deliberately avoiding them; I’m pretty live-and-let-live politically, I wouldn’t ostracize someone just for some weird beliefs. And yet, even though I probably know about a hundred fifty people, I am pretty confident that not one of them is creationist. Odds of this happening by chance? 1/2^150 = 1/10^45 = approximately the chance of picking a particular atom if you are randomly selecting among all the atoms on Earth.
About forty percent of Americans want to ban gay marriage. I think if I really stretch it, maybe ten of my top hundred fifty friends might fall into this group. This is less astronomically unlikely; the odds are a mere one to one hundred quintillion against.

Traitor and useful idiot to the Neo-Nazi oligarchs.
In the old days they could say things to their right-wing audiences and it would never make it to the national news. In the Information Age that can’t be counted on as a certainty. So now when Nikki is pandering to Neo-Nazi/Neo Confederate audiences it goes viral and she has to walk it back to try and get votes from everyone else.
Many in the media think we should vote for this puppet of Christian Nationalists just because she’s younger than the other two candidates. Firstly, while younger, she’s still not a spring chicken. Secondly, and most importantly, she’s a Republikkkan racist that hates the poor and has always voted against us. No way should anybody vote for this vile puppet of the oligarchs.

This years numerological number is 8 ruled by Saturn. Here are some insights I’ve uncovered recently in studying this years number.
There is an inherent need to both break and be bound by some structure. Foundations are being rebuilt after last years rift in reality. Jarring us awake to the illusions we’ve been bound by. There is a seemingly grounded quality to world views this year. People are tired of the fake and unrealistic attainments. The striving for simplicity and contentment is amplified and all those considered “subordinate” in social structures are leveled and demoted to just apart of the collective. However because Saturn is challenge and the numerological 8 is about karma we can expect to see quicker karmic cycles and retaliation to wrongs. There is less grace and more accountability being pushed. Creating the new groundwork is essential. Solid routine and commitment is honored this year. It won’t be easy and will come with expected obstacles and challenges that must be faced head on.
We can expect to see a lot of “long time coming” events to unfold either slowly or suddenly. This is the year of retribution, contrite and facing adversity. Heavy handed dealings we must encounter will occur. The longer you put it off the harder the sting. Those who honestly face their challenges head on with humility will be rewarded. The birthing pains of the cyclical coming to a close is nearing until next year (2025, numerological 9) will demolish the weak foundations that are stood upon. Long term planning is essential, creating healthy and solid habits that can stand the sundering to come is crucial. Steadfastness, frugality and humility are to be rewarded this year and holding on til the new and bursting energy of numerological year 1 (2026) is pivotal.
Begin to think two years ahead this year. Plan and structure and organize your life for success to face whatever may be thrown your way. As bleak and dramatic as this may sound, it’s better to be safe and prepared than sorry.
Predictions: the rise of political issues will ensue, world issues will forefront and continue to unveil. World powers and leaders will face retribution publicly, no one is safe. Unseeming public figures will face a possible exposure that is shocking and vile. Social media usage may decrease over the course of the year. There will a rise in more sustainable brands quality over quantity. Communal living will rise. Something about watches or time keeping… (Apple Watch?) housing market will see a big shift due to communal living, marriage will spike for a short while, traditional values may rise as well.. revisiting old concepts of creating quality and craving long lasting connections.

this is to the people mindlessly picking fights with y'all without even TRYING to understand another perspective that doesn't match theirs;
don't come on here, go, go and keep supporting such atrocities, go on and keep your eyes blindfolded in the name of religion, don't question anything going around you.
keep shouting mindlessly because unemployment, education, taxes, middle class struggles, inflation, the rising debt of our country, the shutdown on free and independent media channels, manipur burning, ye sab toh matter karti hi nai. isse thodina desh chalta hai, right?
desh toh religion ke upar vivad, riots, violence karne se chalta hai, right? hindu khatre mein hai, right??? apna pura dhyaan isme do taaki baki kuch ki importance toh dikhe hi na. sahi hai, uneducated youth = easier mobilisation.
just remember — historically or in the present times, we've all seen what has happened to a country which hyper-fixated on one particular religion beyond everything. humare neighbour, pakistan ko hi le lo. it's the prime example of what happens when politics becomes religion and NOTHING ELSE.
baaki, remember, an eye for an eye will make us all blind. and then, do try and see if the politicians and their bullshit that you guys fight for come and save us.
What hurts me is that most of these people are young, some are wee little children, they've been force-fed a very specific view of the world for over a decade now and they found that tiny, narrow view of the world so comforting that they live there now. They ignore reality to continue living that lie. The people that have fed them these lies continue to profit off of them.
Just today I saw these people call poor farmers 'terrorists'. How badly warped does your mind have to be to come to the conclusion that the poor people trying to change their living conditions by ASKING the government to change some laws is equal to terrorism? The act of people exercising their rights as citizens is deemed "anti-india".
Critical thinking has left the chat.
They will ignore pressing matters of the present to do historical revisionism. I wonder if they're scared to actually face the rapant problems India is facing. They will use the veneer of caring about their country and then talk about nothing of any consequence.
These people don't even understand that they're not fighting for their beloved religion. They're fighting a war of political party that does not care the slightest bit for them.
One of them was complaining that I was "freeloading" a tag. You know WHAT? If freeloading a tag means that there's a healthy amount of dissent in that tag, then I'll use it. They keep flooding it with xenophobia, casteism and all other sorts of bullshit. If they're allowed to spew that vile poison here, we should be allowed to counter and challenge their harmful words.

can we collectively put the 'terf island' thing to bed please? yes there is a massive problem in the UK with powerful media figures pushing vile transphobia onto the general public, but polling consistently shows those hardline positions to be in the clear minority. in fact the UK comes out considerably more trans friendly than the US on most issues (not even touching the recent uptick of shockingly anti-trans legislation over there), but somehow we're 'terf island'.
treating the whole of the UK as a cesspit of transphobia just gives the actual terfs false cover, and is really fucking shit, scaremongering and demoralising for trans people and everyone over here actively campaigning for our human rights. more than that, it plays right into the tactics of the hard right transphobes who use terfs as the publicly acceptable fake feminist face of their bigotry. it glosses transphobia in the UK into something intrinsically related to radical feminism*, artificially forcing everyone to treat it as if it has any legitimacy to the political left or centre at all. it also implies to casual observers that 1. transphobia in the UK is a women's issue 2. most women in the UK are secretly transphobes. which. come on. come on man. fucking come on.
tl;dr: please can we not do marketing for the people who want me dead.
* bears no relation to actual feminism. just tbc.

I keep thinking about all the levels of despicable in DeuxMoi’s posts and her doubling down on her obvious lies, and I think one thing that really bothers me specifically about the miscarriage speculation she posted is that it’s yet another instance of women’s bodies being commodified and policed, especially in the current political climate in the US.
DM has no right to post speculation of that kind about anyone on her channels; pregnancy is not a storyline, it’s a medical condition with potential lifelong physical, psychological, emotional and financial consequences. To “reveal” something like this (again whether it is true or not) is no less invasive than claiming a person has cancer or any other issue. But particularly in this time in history, where reproductive freedoms in the US are being gutted, where people are seeing their access to reproductive care restricted if not denied, where some states are heading into Handmaid’s Tale-levels of monitoring specifically of women’s bodies, fuelling this kind of speculation online about anyone is playing into the dehumanization of women in the public sphere.
To try to profit off that, to drive that kind of speculation at the celebrity scale, only fuels the even more consequential culture of monitoring on people everywhere. (And DM is absolutely profiting off it.)
I know it’s a fine line, but to me the difference between fans interpreting the lyrics of a song differs in that fans do not have a platform to present anything as fact to millions of followers. Interpreting artistic works and applying them to your own lived experience happens across all forms of art. But the line crosses when you get to, “this definitely means this event happened on this day and affected the person in this way,” if they haven’t explicitly said so and given permission to say so. (So, it’d be the difference between, “To me, this song feels like it’s speaking about [the aftermath of a loss/trauma]” and, “this song is about this person experiencing this trauma on this date and I’m going to also make up an entire narrative about the life of a very real person.”)
Do fans of celebrities take it too far? Absolutely. But quite frankly, no fan has two million followers on Instagram and claims things as fact and is given legitimacy by other media (e.g. being invited to speak on other talk shows, hosting podcasts, publishing books and developing TV shows etc.). DM hiding behind “I never said this happened, someone just sent this to me and I posted it” is vile, because her platform alone ensures that a portion of her followers will take it as presumed fact, whether or not it is, and this is for anything she posts. And again, because she is accepted by all these other outlets, it lends her legitimacy regardless of her actual actions. Moreover, by digging her heels into the sand about something as ridiculous as the secret marriage ceremony, claiming she wouldn’t lie about this, it also implies she wouldn’t lie about anything else she’s posted. Which reinforces the cycle of people speculating not just on Taylor, but any celebrity, and their bodies.
This is a microcosm of an issue at large. By watching, monitoring, assigning experiences on the bodies of celebrities like Taylor, it’s giving permission to do that about anyone. And not only is that wrong and incredibly invasive, it’s increasingly dangerous in some parts of the world, including the US. Privileged (white) people will always have access to the care they need, but that care is being incrementally threatened in the rest of the country, and by perpetuating the idea that it’s entertainment to monitor women’s bodies, it dehumanizes them and turns them into content and it raises the stakes for people everywhere when it comes to their reproductive choices and freedoms.
I’m not purporting that this is necessarily what made Taylor’s team snap this week, but I do think it speaks to a larger issue that is harder to ignore for consumers of pop culture and as people living in a society in which these are tangible threats. I know this is a bit of a rambling mess, but it’s just really stuck with me over the last few days. I’d hope that this shot across the bow by Tree starts a larger conversation about the harm outlets like DM cause.

It’s funny that “the liberals are protesting Israel” im pretty conservative and I am too on free Palestine, probably the smartest take the left has had, like ever. Brain dead Fox News Conservatives be like I love israel give them more money I love what they’ve done for the usa:D!!! Israel began this in 1948 when Palestine opened up to them, just for the Jews to stab them in the back and begin their cleansing. It must be so hard for them to have billions of us aid, control the media banks politics I wish the Jews didn’t have it so rough :( Also how are you Christian and ok with all the anti christ things jew say? They are actively against everything u believe in. Anyways death to the illegitimate state of Israel 6million more please 🙏
Ending this bullshit with "6 million more please" shows what's really driving the garbage you spout.
You're just a nazi so of course you spew vile and nasty shit.
Seriously. you free Palestine people might want to consider sounding a little less like Hitler simps.
I remember when that was a bad thing.

this is from David Farrier's webworm, and reiterates something I was already thinking about. whatever you feel about what ghahraman did, I think it's absolutely disgusting how sensationalist and gratuitous the reporting has been on her, all things considered, very minor crime.
Tumblr media
The fervour with which women of colour in politics in are persecuted in the media just goes to show how deeply racist and misogynist this country so often is. for a broadcaster like sean plunket to openly say things like 'coloured young women' and face no consequences is completey vile.
Tumblr media
anyway, hell country, don't read stuff etc etc

Within hours of the post, Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) appeared to come to the terrorist group’s defense while assuming a victim stance.
“It is appalling that AIPAC is targeting women members of Congress who have survived sexual assault with this horrific rhetoric,” she wrote. “Each and every day, their role in US politics becomes a greater scandal.”
“They are the NRA of foreign policy,” she added. “Of course they don’t want a ceasefire.”
Her post was followed by that of Rep. Cori Bush, who charged on Thursday that “[a]s a survivor of rape, AIPAC’s tactic of exploiting rape is outright vile and appalling.”
“Their playbook relies on bullying, lying, harassing, belittling & intimidation to try to manipulate the public & force those calling for a ceasefire into submission,” she wrote. “It won’t stop us.”
In response, AIPAC called it “appalling” that Ocasio-Cortez “will spread toxic lies about pro-Israel Americans but won’t condemn Hamas’ systematic rape of Israeli women,” accusing her of “[p]ure anti-Israel hypocrisy and hate.”
Others also took to social media to call out the radical Squad members.
“You don’t get to speak for the rest of us, and the squad aren’t the only members of Congress who have experienced sexual violence,” wrote Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX). “Stop playing the victim. Hamas is using rape as a weapon of war and it’s wrong.”
“For God’s sake, call it out!” she added.
